Zyliss Carving Knife, 8-Inch

Zyliss Carving Knife, 8-InchHave purchased several of these knifes and I'm very pleased with all of them. Also nice that they have a cover because they are sharp! I recommend these to anyone.

An excellent knife, especially for the price. Perfect for the typical, everyday home cook. I can't imagine what a better knife would be, unless you prefer other colors.

Just remember this knife is best for meat and long cuts.

This knife is really sharp, and it has kept it's edge even after a lot of use. I really love Zyliss knives, and this one is great for big jobs, like cutting cabbages.

I will use it some day. I will keep ordering till I find the perfect every day knife

I bought this for my daughter who's lacking in the art of cooking. It's sharp and the case is good protection as she has a habit of storing knives in a very unorganized drawer. The only drawback is that the case was a little tight so one needs to slide the knife in and out a few times to make it work smoothly. For someone who uses expensive knives and sharpens them regularly this knife might feel cheap and unblalanced but it comes in handy in a pinch and works very well. Slicing tomatoes is the test of a sharp knife and it passed the test.

Bunmei 1803/270 - 10 1/2 inch Tako Sashimi Knife

Bunmei 1803/270 - 10 1/2 inch Tako Sashimi KnifeThis knife is the ultimate in slicing raw fish. The square tip is in the "Osaka style", which makes it a little more unique than other traditional sushi knives. The all stainless construction means easier maintenance, since most sushi knives are carbon steel and rust and stain easily. Balance is never, ever a consideration with sushi knives. They are not made for chopping. The long blade is designed for extended blade strokes while slicing through fish or vegetables. This knife gets lots of use at our house, even in slicing bananas for morning breakfast!

This knife has a nice weight and handling to it. It came in perfectly condition, and arrived very quickly. We made beautiful sushi with it.

...an edge, and good balance.

The fact that this knife came out of the package dull is something of a puzzlement to me, considering its cost. It did take an edge very quickly with a couple of passes over the steal, however.

The handle is very light weight hardwood and the black bolster is some kind of plastic, nylon I think, so the center of balance is too far out on the blade. I've had to Krazy Glue several American dimes to the butt of the handle to achieve proper balance (painted black to accent the bolster). The handle is also very short, not particularly designed for people with large, or even average sized hands, in mind. Keep in mind the stature of your average Japanese, I guess. Not meaning at all to be offensive, but my big American hand isn't afforded a real margin of comfort here.

I'm keeping this knife. I like the single-grind edge, which is also very straight really ideal for certain jobs. I don't see this as fulfilling the role of an all-purpose kitchen knife though. But, then, that's not why I bought it.

I think the best thing about this piece, aside from its specialized application, is just its plain good looks. Sounds shallow perhaps, but this thing is really pretty. So, sometimes form outweighs function. I can live with that in this instance.

Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife, White BladeKyocera ceramics are the sharpest knives I've ever seen or used in a career marked by years of professional cooking. But that is well known; an argument that need not be advanced by me. I want to respond to the reviewer who complained that his knife lost its keen edge after two months use. I've been slicing tomatoes and other soft fruits and vegetables with this knife for more than five years, not just on weekends but day in and day out in a commercial kitchen. It remains as sharp today as when I took it out of the box. I suspect that the unhappy reviewer was misusing the knife by cutting on the wrong type of surface, dragging the blade against bone or otherwise asking the knife to do things that it was not designed to do, and which the manufacturer clearly says not to do.

Use it properly and you may never find out how well and quickly Kyocera can resharpen it for you.

Best knives ever just be careful not to drop them, as they are more brittle than steel, and will break under certain conditions. I'd recommend getting a knife sharpener that is meant for ceramic blades as a steel sharpener will ruin a ceramic blade. Finally, don't use on stone, glass or stainless steel cutting surfaces, as the super-fine edge will wear much more quickly.

One feature (some like it/some hate it) is they are very light in weight, and if you are used to a nice set of steel knives, it might take a while to get used to the feel.

Great knives.

Buy Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife Now

I had never used a ceramic knife before, but I must say that it cuts tomatoes and meat like butter! I am very happy I invested money in this knife. The company sends along a free knife sharpening coupon redemable at their company because you can't use the traditional knife sharpener on the ceramic blade. This adds a level of comfort since the blades can chip if you drop the knife on a hard surface or use pressure with it on bone.

I bought this knife to supplement my Henkel, Wusthof, and Messermeister knives. I've never owned a ceramic knife, and having read the reviews here, thought this might be a nice addition to my burgeoning collection (I love sharp knives). I especially wanted it for my fruit/veggie art carvings, where a really sharp knife is necessary.

The knife is certainly very well made, and feels fairly well balanced. The absence of rivets makes the blade end a bit heavier than the handle, however. As the handle totally encases the tang, I cannot tell if it is full tang or not. But the handle is a little light to my feel but that may be just me. It still feels pretty good despite this shortcoming.

The first time I used it, it was amazingly sharp. I had no problem slicing the thinnest radish, cucumber, carrot, or any hard veggie slices I could get my hands on. Being a honing (sharpening) steel freakazoid addict, I was disappointed that I could not use that prior to returning the ceramic knife to my wooden butcher block, but I knew that going in.

Now, after a month, it's not so sharp at all. Note: I cut ONLY on cork or end grain wood boards, so that is not the issue. I can't see any burrs, but I know they must be there because it does at times snag on foods, and doesn't give thin slices as it did just one month ago. I know I can return it to Kyocera for sharpening, but at this price point, I'm not going to invest more money.

For those with limited funds (read as: me), I believe it is better to get a high quality carbon steel knife from the three mfgrs I mentioned above, use the honing steel before and after every use, and the Chef's Choice sharpener (or its equivalent, although there really IS no equivalent in my experience) to reset the edge once/year (that's my average) and you'll do fine. (I also own the simpler Accusharp device, but it is not all that great.)

Bottom line? Ceramic may be great for some things, but in my limited experience (and perhaps this only holds true for the Kyocera brand) this was not worth the money invested.

Whatever knife you choose, best of luck in your cutting. Be sure to invest in the best cutting board you can find (end grain maple is consistently rated the softest). It does not matter WHICH knife you buy if you use a cheap board (glass is the WORST by far). Been there, done that. I've seen good knives dulled by just one use of low quality cutting boards. It amazes me when people spend $150 or more on a high quality knife, and I see them using a glass cutting board. Just stupefying to me.

Want Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife Discount?

This knife has to be the sharpest knife I have ever used. Effortlessly cuts. Really nice. The only issue is that it does not come with a sheath as many I have seen do. It is too sharp to leave in the drawer, and I would be wary of damaging the blade as well. I don't use a block due to limited counter space. A protective sheath would be perfect.

Totally Bamboo Greenlight Paddle, Cutting Board, Large

Totally Bamboo Greenlight Paddle, Cutting Board, LargeI read the reviews and promptly ordered this board. Since I store my cutting boards upright in a slide out drawer the thinness was much appreciated. Very strong and easy to clean. Bamboo really is standing up to the hype. Love the size. Surface large enough to contain loose rolling pieces of veggies as I chop them. A word about what I learned about oiling your cutting boards. This is very important to prevent drying out, warping and splitting of your investment. Oiling helps seal the surface (a good idea to prevent small bamboo splinters from shedding in this case) and makes your board surfaces much easier to clean. But the 'key' is to only use food grade or pharmaceutical grade "mineral" oil that is available at any major drug store. Not baby mineral oil, motor oil or anything else. Ever..... This oil will likely be found in the 'laxative' aisle. Just ask if you have to. This lable will state 'USP' on it somewhere. Never, ever use any vegetable oils. They eventually become rancid and nasty gummy on the wood. Never allow the wood to sit waiting to be cleaned in a damp area or sink. Now I know better after having to sand down the surface and cut the split edge off of an expensive cutting board to order to save it. Scrub your boards clean with dish soap and a small brush. Rinse well and allow to air dry. Pour a small amount of oil in the palm of your hand and slather the board on all surfaces. Even the sides and handle. Prop it up somewhere overnight to let the oil soak in. Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel and store. Re-oil periodically when any surface starts to appear a little dry. Your board will last many years and while you are at it, just get two boards. Mark one for veggies/fruits and one for meats. I like to use a spray bottle of bleach and water on the meat cutting board immediately after its use just before soaping and scrubbing with a small hand scrub brush. Much safer that way.

I bought this when it was 50% off (and the next day it was back to regular price, how lucky was that??). Anyway, I like this board because there's a handle where I can hang it to dry. I was hesitant about the thickness of the board (3/8") since it is thinner than the other bamboo boards I looked at. I've used it for a month and so far, the board has not warped. There are three layers of bamboo stalks pressed together so that each layer runs perpendicularly to its adjacent layers, to prevent warping. It is resistant to knife cutting marks compared to my previous wood board (which warped and became pretty cut up very fast). Overall, it's a good quality board that's beautifully made. I wouldn't hesitate to serve food on this as well.

Oh yeah, it comes with instructions saying that you should oil the board every once in awhile with their special bamboo oil. I've just been using my regular cooking oil and it's fine so far. Maybe I'll update this post in a year with the results.

When this board arrived it was way better than I thought. It's a great size for chopping multiple items (no crowding) and it cleans off easily. Also bamboo is the best you can get for your good knives. I couldn't believe it said dishwasher safe. For me it was a sign from the company that they stand behind the product. I don't see a reason to toss the board in the dishwasher because it is so easy to clean. I recently soaked it with a good food grade mineral oil and it looks great. I hang it on my cabinet near the sink for easy access. I get lots of comments from folks who see it or watch me use it. Great product, great price.

Screwpull Table Model Opener

Screwpull Classic Table Corkscrew, BlackI have owned this wine opener since the early 1980s...Yes, the same one! It is so easy to use and (obviously) durable. Highly recommended.

After 6 months, it broke. One of the long tines/forks cracked in half. "Amazon" said return it to the manufacturer in South Carolina---which I did via USPS with a tracking number...And the story ends there! Nothing EITHER YES OR NO FROM SCREWPULL(Le Crueset, actually). You are better off buying from a retail outlet where you have some leverage, and they stand behind what they sell!

I bought this corkscrew for a friend because my husband has one and it's fantastic. My friend said she loves it it's so easy to use.

Want Screwpull Table Model Opener Discount?

We love our simple Screwpulls (friends have broken several over the years, because they did not ask how to work it, so we keep buying new ones). But the most recent one does not say Screwpull on the side it says "Le Creuset." And in opening one kind of bottle (it happens to be the tall Toasted Head Chardonnay bottle), the hub on the side which holds the opener against the bottle rim is slightly larger, and will not permit the cork to come out, without rocking the opener sideways. It works fine on all the other wine bottles I have tried. My old one says "Screwpull" with the little circled R after, and it works perfectly. I wonder if this is this a newly-engineered style? I like the old one better.

Mountainwoods Fiddle Bow Bread Knife Set with Crumb Tray 3-pc.

Mountainwoods Fiddle Bow Bread Knife Set with Crumb Tray 3-pc.I like my knife and crumb tray but I would like the crumb tray better if were not all warped! Because it is not at all level, it is hard to cut all the way through the bread. The knife is great though.

I did not use the tray until after I had thrown away the box and invoice because I knew I wanted it and, truthfully, I did not even think about the possibility of warping. My loss.

Marianna Settles

Very light weight and tended to move as you cut. The bow knife cut very thin and uneven slices on crusty bread. One friend used it and said his bow knife was much easier to use as the bow was larger and cut thicker slices. We had a crusty baquette that we gave up on and used bread knife. Also had a label stuck on top of cutting surface that left sticky goo.

Already owning two Henckels Twin Pro-S 5-inch serrated knives, I was curious how this one compared. It was deeply discounted at a local box store, so I bought one. It is slightly different than the one pictured on Amazon, as mine has an ergonomic handle, but is still called Premio 5-inch serrated. One big difference between the two, and it's an important one--the Premio is made in China (using German stainless steel) and the Twin Pro S is precision forged, ice hardened and made in Germany. Both have heft and cut through vegetables (particularly tomatoes) with ease. After that, the Twin Pro S leaves the Premio in the dust. It does a much better job cutting through tougher foods, particularly meat. It's true the Twin Pro S costs much more, but they can frequently be found on Ebay and other sites at very good prices. The Premio still gets put to use and does a good job, but only on foods I know it can handle. A five-inch serrated knife is indispensable in the kitchen--I feel privileged to now own three!

YOSHIHIRO - Blue Steel Hongasumi Yanagi Sashimi Chef Knife 11.7' 300mm -MADE IN JAPANHey guys, I finally received the knife from YOSHIHIRO. Ok what can I tell u guys about this knife, I would recommend this knife for any professional sushi chef out there. The price is really fair for high quality knife.

it isnt bad to get a yanagiba at this price. but the quality really disappointed me. I have been using sushi knives for more than five years and I have tried cheaper and more expensive knives and this one is defenitely not recommented for professional use. the knive can chip easily even while sharpening. are u kidding me? a real aoko-hongasumi is well known as a good hard steel so i really doubt this knife is legitimate aoko hongasumi.

Buy YOSHIHIRO - Blue Steel Hongasumi Yanagi Sashimi Chef Knife 11.7" 300mm -MADE IN JAPAN Now

The knife is absolutely beautiful, a great deal of care obviously goes into the workmanship of these knives.

It came wonderfully sharp. Most knives typically come with a "serviceable" edge, but I generally like mine with a very refined edge, this is the only knife I have ever purchased that I did not feel the need to sharpen right out of the box.

I like the heft of the knife. The weight of a knife really comes down to personal preference, but I feel this one has just enough heft that you can let the weight of the knife do the bulk of the work when slicing, but is still light enough that it doesn't feel cumbersome when making repetitious cuts.

The only "drawback" is that the knife is NOT stainless, so it requires a little extra care to ensure it remains in good condition. That said the knife came with care instructions for people who may not know how to care for a non-stainless knife.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Multi-Grater Set

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Multi-Grater SetI was skeptical of purchasing this since there weren't any reviews yet, but I'm glad I did. I own other Henckels kitchen gadgets and have been satisfied with them.

This grater is sturdy and comes with an additional grate grid (one is for a fine shred and one is for a medium, coarser shred) that can be popped off the handle base. I worried that because the grid can be popped off the handle, that it might not be sturdy. But it is, and I had no reason to worry. It grates a hard block of parmesan like a dream, and washes up easily in the dishwasher.

The only drawback is that the weight of the handle is almost too heavy. When rested across the top of a smaller bowl, the weight of the handle will tip the bowl over. But I wouldn't let that stop me from purchasing this again.

Very nice looking grater with two attachments, does what it's intended to do. Item arrived on time with no complaints.

Knork Gloss Single TubeGot this to use in place of the plastic utensils at work. It's on the heavy side but I have no issues with that. The edges aren't really sharp but they are VERY sturdy and have sort of a pointed edge so it does cut through many items better than you would expect. My wife laughed at the need to buy a Knork but I like it. It's also shaped so it works very well scooping ice cream. The points dig in better than a spoon could.

Zyliss Utility Paring Knife, 5.5-Inch, Red

Zyliss Utility Paring Knife, 5.5-Inch, RedMy favorite thing to cook is pizza and this knife makes it much much easier! It cuts the veggies so nicely. When I cut tomatoes with this knife they cut very clean, not squishy like they can get with other knives. It can also go in the dishwasher which is definitely a plus. Highly recommend this for anyone who spends time in the kitchen!

I received this knife as a gift and it is Pink. This knife is sharp, well balanced and adds a splash of color to the kitchen. When cooking dinner, I found that I grabbed it first because of the color. ( it stands out around the black and stainless) Now, it's my go to knife. This knife is AWESOME! I wanted to spice up my kitchen utensils with some color and decided to get this red knife. Little did I know, it would be the best knife I could have invested in. It cuts various types of food all the way through in one solid motion. It is also small enough to handle, a lot of sharp "good" knives are huge and I end up cutting my fingers off. This one has a nice grip to easily control every aspect of cutting. It also comes with a case to put it in so while I am grabbing random items in my drawer, I once again don't cut my fingers off. I would definitely recommend this knife to anyone!

Well, first off, it's not really red. It's more like hot pink which makes it EVEN BETTER. I love this cute, little knife. Actually, it's the perfect size (not too bulky and not to scrawny) to cut most anything. I probably use this knife the most because it's so versatile. It's a durable knife, holding up well in the dishwasher and has a nice sturdy grip. And it has its own case -now how cool is that? It's pink, it has a case, it cuts well, it goes in the dishwasher...if there were an awards show for cutlery, this knife would be nominated for sure.

Camco 43583 RV Knife Safe

Camco 43583 RV Knife SafeI had been searching for a way to hold my large knives in the small kitchen of my motorhome. When we travel, I bring my favorite Santoku, a bread knife and another large knife. I had considered a knife magnet, which is what I use at home (and love), but really didn't have a good place to mount it. Enter this knife holder. It's just a plastic rack, but it's inexpensive and works fine. We mounted it on the back of a lower cabinet door under the sink. My husband put it up easily, although he chose to buy a slat that he cut and fit to give it lots of stability. (He likes to build things strong!) I'm still keeping small paring knives in a drawer because I had room for them, but the large knives are now going in this rack. I'm perfectly happy with it and recommend it to anyone who has a place to put it and needs this type of storage.

This works well for my smaller knives and for my ceramic knives (that don't work on my magnetic knife holder) but as many of my knives have blades that are wider than even the largest slot, it won't work for them.

I ordered one, figuring that if it worked okay I would order more but one is sufficient.

It is very handy for the ceramic knives and I can now removed the knife holder from one of my drawers that I used only for those blades.

I can't give it five stars because of the size limitation but it does work well for the proper sized knives.

I would like to see a larger one with more and wider slots and hope that eventually the manufacturer will produce one.

I cannot believe how handy this item is! I installed this in my RV and due to literally moving my house ended up living in the RV for 21 weeks (no kidding). This was one of those purchases that was used daily and is worth every penny for convenience. I have also purchased one to install in my home as it will unclutter my silverware drawer and takes up almost no space as it lies flat against a wall. Would highly recommend it!

This has worked great for us, especially because we have small children and this keeps knives and scissors safely out of reach.

We wanted to get our knife "rack/holder" off of our counter tops to save space and not have the knives so accessible to our young children. After much research this looked like the best purchase. You can either screw them into your cabinet or chosen area to mount..or they come with sticky tabs as well. We used the sticky tabs first to see how they work and so far so good! The knives are all hanging up inside of our cabinets. It's so nice, the counter space is free'd up and no worry that the kids will be able to reach the knives since they are high up in cabinets they cannot reach. Great purchase!!

I've butchered a number of deer with this knife and really enjoy using it. Its nice and sharp, comfortable to use, seems to hold an edge relatively well. I recommend a sharpening steel if you are going to be going through a large amount of meat. Touching up the edge after continued use helps make things go a little quicker and safer.

I love this knife. When my housemate saw it was Kershaw, he lamented over losing his Kershaw pocket knife that he said was the best. Not related to this kitchen knife, but his comment tells me that the brand Kershaw is known for quality. It's sturdy, comfortable to grip, cuts like a charm.

When i bought this at first it was amazing how sharp it was and slowly just like other knives it started getting blunt in a month or so but the grip and the quality are all decent and gives a nice look.Otherwise i guess if we sharpen it regularly it should be a wonderful knife to use.
