Dexter-Russell (2333-8PCP) - 8" Fillet Knife - Dexter-Russell Series

Dexter-Russell - 8' Fillet Knife - Dexter-Russell SeriesI learned about Dexter-Russel knives a few years ago. Ones I've bought so far are sharp on arrival, hold an edge well, easy to resharpen and very cost-effective cutlery. I already have, and love, the white-plastic-handle version of this knife. This wooden-handle version looks like it will become a favorite at my fish cleaning station. Just wish I could have bought it with a sheath.

My picky husband's new favorite knife! Being a hunter and meat processor, he has many decent knives, but this one...he loves!! :)

Starfrit Salad Spinner, Blue

Starfrit Salad Spinner, BlueI've been walking into Bed, Bath, and Beyond for several years now looking for a decent salad spinner. Last Christmas I bought myself an OXO but returned it after 1 day since the the gears stripped with a minimum of force and the entire unit was difficult to keep steady. Then last week I started looking around online to see where the state of salad spinner technology was and after perusing many reviews I decided to give this Starfrit item a whirl. What a good move that was! This thing is SWEET. Some people might be turned off by the side handle because it might make it difficult to store the unit. But as far as I'm concerned this is the luxury of the item. With the side handle, the gear mechanism is more sturdy and considerable force can be applied to get the spinner really humming. Also, with the top of the unit clear, one can place a hand on top to stabilize the unit while turning the handle. Also, there are some little details like removable liner on the spinner, which can be cleaned separately. Also, the ribbed interior of the basket to keep salad leaves in place. And did I mention the 4 thick rubber feet? Finally, this light blue thing looks cool as all get out like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey! Open the pod bay doors, Hal, and get me a Caesar Salad....I love this product and advise everyone to immediately bypass the OXO hype and get with the Starfrit revolution! (OK, am I overstating my enthusiasm a bit here? seriously though, this is an awesome salad spinner.)

Love this salad spinner. I wasn't sure which one to buy so I went thru all the reviews. This brand had great reviews from everyone. I was not disappointed. It's very solid, and the handle makes it spin well. It doesn't feel like it's going to break on you. It also doesn't slip all over while trying to turn the handle... of course I keep one hand on it and it is just so steady. I have used salad spinners in the past and quit using them because they didn't work well. Well I put my lettuce in this one after washing it and shaking out the excess water.Gave it a few spins and was surprised at how much water came out and how dry my lettuce was for chopping. If you're considering purchasing a salad spinner... this is a great one. I love mine!

I reviewed a lot of spinners before choosing this one, and I'm very glad I bought it. It is quite large, well designed, very sturdy, and does a great job. We've had it for many months, no problems. I like that you can crank the handle just a few turns, and it keeps on spinning on its own for as long as you want, to get your produce very dry--no need to pump and pump. The brake works very well. The lid never seems to get wet either, which makes for easier cleaning. We like to do leaf lettuce in whole leaves, then store them ready for use in an air-tight container. The lettuce seems to last longer, and is certainly convenient for salads and sandwiches. This is a bit too large for de-hulling sprouts.

In the past, I have had the OXO and the Kitchen Aid salad spinners. Both of these were difficult to spin, especially with large amounts and broke within a relatively short period of time. This one, with the crank, is easy to use and gets my lettuce much drier than the others. I am happy with my purchase.

I must say I'm underwhelmed on first spin with this product. Several review descriptions just seem "off". This is NOT any jumbo capacity spinner, if anything it's a tad less than OXO's and other typical spinners of that ilk. It's taller but narrower. The minimal instructions don't tell you how to attach the handle, just shove it on. Not sure from that if there's a better connection than just randomly pushing it in but the most annoying thing about it is it has a clicking, "skipping" feel to the spinner when you rotate the handle, as though the cogs had already stripped a few teeth. This is apparently the action that was designed into the spin system(they're very few teeth on the spin top) so to me it feels defective right out of the box. It literally sounds like popcorn popping there's so much plastic "gear stripping". You dont get the feel that it can spin as fast or with as much torque as other common spinners. Can't imagine it'll hold up too well with the flimsiness of the handle/gear cog mechanism, but will definitely report back on its performance after a month or two. My initial impulse was to return it but seems like a hassle for a bulky $25 purchase. 10 days later-gave up and returned it. I would guess it never exceeded 60 rpm(with a clattering/ratchedy noise)and left salad dripping wet. Thank you Amazon for good return service.

Kitchenaid 4.5 Inch Santoku Knife Red Handle

Kitchenaid 4.5 Inch Santoku Knife Red HandleVery good for chopping. Keeps a nice edge. Handle is somewhat slender, especially for a male user. Would prefer this knife in 5 1/2 inches and a very thin, hard blade. Am wondering if there is a 5 1/2 inch standard knife available and if it has a more slender blade than the Santoku. Used such a blade when vacationing in Hilton Head, staying in a condo.

I choose this rating because this knife is very durable and sharp. A quality WHICH I expected from kitchenaid and they did not disappoint.

Chef's Knife 8" (Bulk) - Kershaw Knives 9945, Knives Kitchen/Chef

Chef's Knife 8' - Kershaw Knives 9945, Knives Kitchen/ChefThis is a wonderful knife, I have many very expensive knives and for the money this is the best of the lot. It has a wonderful heft, it is easy to grasp, it cuts superbly, and it is so sharp it rivals my Kramer Damascus blade. I had originally bought a Kershaw sheath knife for camping and discovered what a superior blade it is, i immediately went out and bought a chefs blade for the kitchen. I do not allow anyone in the house to touch a couple of my knives, they are so sharp, and this is one of them.

Orka Mastrad Ceramic Paring Knife

Orka Mastrad A22112 Ceramic Paring Knife, White, 3-InchThe design and functionality of this knife is top notch, I really like it. On Thanksgiving everyone envied it; they loved the blade-cover concept because it travels well (which we all did for the holiday and were cooking together) and stores well. However, even though everyone knows that ceramic is fragile, the next day (the second time I was using it) the tip broke right off. It is a shame but the bigger shame is that I contacted the manufacturer TWICE to find out if there is a repair warranty and NEVER got a reply. I would pay to sharpen the tip! Knife sharpening businesses will not handle ceramic blades, I tried. I was told that if my knife was manufactured by Kyosera, they would repair it.

I looked it up: Kyosera stands behind their ceramic knives and offers FREE repairs because they know these types of knives have their limits and people want to keep them for life. Even though I wasn't expecting Mastrad to replace my brand-new knife (I purchased it only a week prior), I thought they would at least reply or somehow stand by their customer.

Think more than twice before investing in any Mastrad product and as wonderfully sharp as ceramic blades are, buy from a company that understands that sometimes they need repair like Kyosera.

I saw this knife in a flyer for the home show and thought it looked pretty cool, and wanted to try it out.

I was always interested in trying out a ceramic knife, and this is my first one.

I like the idea that the blade folds/gets covered. I think the quality of the knife is a little bit lacking though. The handle has some wear / rough spots where the hinge / friction hold open thing is. (like imagine too big of a pin going into a small opening, causing wear on the area around the hole).

The packaging for this was overkill. It has a fancy magnetic box, and I do not see the purpose of that. Would rather see it in a clamshell and have the price a bit less.

Closing the blade is a little scary. Like it seems like it would be easy to slip then trying to close it. It is hard to initially get the blade to close, and there is really no good way to get a grip between the rubber handle and the hard plastic handle.

Also it does seem like it is meant to be open, more than it is to be closed. I thought it would be a nice knife to take on a picnic and put in a bag, but I do not feel it is fully secure when it is closed.

Lastly the blade itself seems pretty sharp, but not what I was expecting. I have a Shun paring knife that was crazy sharp when I got it. This one just seems sharp. So so far I am not too impressed with the ceramic aspect of the blade.

One thing I would add would be some metal somewhere in the handle so I could stick it to a magnetic knife rack while it is closed.

Not sure if I would recommend it or not at this stage. I think there are better options as far as cheap paring knives, and if you want something for a picnic or camping I would go with Kuhn Rikon Instead.Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Paring Knife, Red

I will update when I use it more.

If you want a knife that never needs sharpening DON'T BUY THIS ONE.

I got this knife in the mail today, and I was somewhat disappointed in two ways.

#1. I guess I did not understand from the pictures how this knife folded. I expected the blade to fold into the handle, much like a pocket knife, not the handle to fold up over the blade. I like that it protects the blade, but I expected this to be more of a space saving pocket friendly design.

#2. (and this is far worse than #1 in my opinion)

This is my first ceramic knife. I have been intrigued by them but have never bought one. I have a nice set of sharpening stones and can hone steel blades as sharp as a scalpel. Ceramic knives can't be sharpened the same way, but I thought "hey, it might be nice to have a knife I don't have to maintain." The flaw in my thinking is that this knife really isn't very sharp. It will not shave the hairs from my arm, and will just barely slice thru the skin of a tomato(you have to saw a little). This is the point at which I consider my steel knives to need a sharpening. I could have a perpetually dull knife just by not sharpening my existing knives, I certainly didn't need to purchase one that comes dull from the factory and stays dull forever. A serrated knife would be a better purchase.

This is a very well made little knife that slices veggies and the like with ease. The folding part is a bonus as it will protect the sometimes delicate ceramic blade. I love ceramic knives and don't plan on using anything else but they do have a drawback of the tip chipping off if you're not careful. With this there is less risk of that since the blade folds into the handle. I would recommend.

Oneida Boutonniere 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Boutonniere 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4I was moving into my own place and needed some flatware, and this is perfect. I spent probably too much time looking around for a 20-piece set that would do the job. Its not my favorite pattern, but the price was right for Oneida's great brand & warranty. For the price, you get a very good weight and well balanced flatware. This set is very shiny and well made. All of the pieces, even the knives are one piece and you won't have to worry about water getting in or breaking apart. I looked at of Oneida's 18/0 flatware of comparable price (Colonial Boston, etc..) in stores around town and this set was the nicest of the bunch. You don't need to worry about bending at all.

I don't have a dishwasher so I can't tell you how the finish holds up, but all together I am very happy and would recommend this to anyone.

We bought this set since our previous dinner set had been lost one by one. Now we have this set for two months and it's as clean and shiny as the first day.

Gibson Mosaic Pearl 10-inch Round Wood Serving Bowl

Gibson Mosaic Pearl 10-inch Round Wood Serving BowlI am very pleased with this bowl. It's beautiful! I use it as a fruit bowl on our kitchen island, and now even when the fruit is down to one or two, the almost empty bowl doesn't look bare .... the beautiful golden-pearl mosaic tiles are so lovely that it still looks so attractive and nice! For my use as a fruit bowl, it would be nice if this bowl ran a little bigger (it's 10" across) as we have a big family and go through a lot of fruit per week. But it's still a nice size and will do just fine for us. I really like it thanks!

Hampton Forge Essenstahl Arch 20-Piece Flatware Set

Hampton Forge Essenstahl Arch 20-Piece Flatware SetI found this flatware in a Macy's store and was thrilled by the design of the knives (as well as the spoon sizes). Unfortunately, Macy's only had one 20 piece set left which just wasn't enough for my needs. So I searched online and found it through Amazon. Even though only the fork (why?) was displayed as an image and I had no name for the set, I decided to go for and order it. Fortunately, it turned out to be the right choice and I am now a happy owner of 2 sets. The handles of all pieces have a night weight to them and really sit well in your hand. Very stylish! ...forgot to mention that Amazon's price was 50% cheaper than Macy's...

18-Piece BBQ Grill Tool Set with Aluminum Case (Silver) (3"H x 19"W x 10"D (case))

18-Piece BBQ Grill Tool Set with Aluminum Case)The quality of the tools themselves is OK, the biggest benefit of the tool collection was that it comes with a full set (8) of corn skewers and a set of kabob skewers, the rest of the set is fairly standard fair although the handle design if more attractive than most. The biggest disappointment with this set was the "Elegant Aluminum Carrying Case", it is aluminum but it very cheaply constructed and didn't even survive being shipped without coming apart in a couple of places, I had to pop the face sheet back into place on both sides since the metal edges that are supposed to hold the face sheet in place are too flimsy to do the job. It simply will not last being used.

Xikar XI2 Cutter, Noir Black

Xikar XI2 Cutter, Noir BlackThis little guy is amazing. It's light weight, durable as all get out, easy to use and attractive. Mechanically the XI2 is very simple and when it comes to a cutter, simple is better. One thing that had me a little worried with the XI2 was the shape. Since I was used to guillotine cutters I wasn't sure if the XI2 would allow a steady grip but rest assured, when gripped properly the cutter won't shift in your hand.

Whether this is your first cutter or you are just looking for something to expand your arsenal, this is defiantly one to consider.

Happy smoking all!

This cutter feels solid and I expect it to last me a lifetime. The matte black nylon handles do not scratch or chip, but still look sleek. I have dropped the cutter a few times, picked it up and everything is tight, with no chips. As far as cutting cigars this thing is a champ. Blade is razor sharp. I have used it on many gauges and shapes and every time they come out perfect. Just make sure you snap it shut with a good deal of force. Even the best cutters can mash a cigar if not closed quickly. The locking mechanism makes it very easy and safe to carry in your pocket, and since this thing is so light you barely know it is there. After cutting through 75 or so cigars and a year of use there is not a sign of rust or blade dulling.

Chef's Choice Edgecraft 2-by-6-Inch Diamond Sharpening Stone

Chef's Choice Edgecraft 2-by-6-Inch Diamond Sharpening StoneThis is a single stone (rather than a complicated series of stones) that gets the job done better than a much more costly electric sharpener. If you wish your knives were sharper, but don't want to become a professional knife maintenance technician, it's a nice choice. I like mine.

Bear in mind that with a sharpening stone, YOU are responsible for holding the knife at the correct angle; there are no safety features; and you'll still want to use a honing steel (that long metal rod with a handle) after sharpening.

While I am still a neophyte when it comes to sharpening, I rate this stone as good overall and my skills limit the possible outcome. There are tradeoffs with a one-in-all approach, so using a strop or steel after sharpening is recommended.

What this does well is remove metal fairly quickly if you need to reprofile, repair edges, or bring an abused/dull knife back. This has worked well with both pocket knives, kitchen cutlery, and general fixed blade knives of various metals (carbons and stainless). It works better, or perhaps my technique (lack of) produces better results with softer steels. I've been less successful with D2 or higher vanadium steels such as that in Global knives.

Per comments above, it will not bring back the best polished edge, so this is not the best option for an only one.

Good base/box with small rubber feet that grip a counter/table well when sharpening.

Not the optimal size for larger cutlery, but this seems to work well for a variety of blade types sizes, etc.

Good overall option for free hand sharpening with a reasonable price for a dry stone. Those with a high degree of skill may be better served by other options.

I purchased this item because of a good experience with other company products and a family reommendation for this particular item. The diamond stone has not been fixed exactly parallel to the sides of the wooden base casing and so the lid cover does not sit squarely on the base. It is not worth sending back from Australia but if the manufacturer wishes to distribute internationally they need to do more than just have US address and telephone in the internet age.

Have had a small cleaver that I like to use for general purpose chopping and cutting, but was never able to keep it very sharp, despite trying to use a sharpening rod kit. The missing piece was not using a stone, you can use either a traditional wet stone, or a hard surface (diamond) one. Since I didn't want the hassle of a wet stone, I opted for this one, and found it to be easy to use. The instructions tell you to try and maintain a 22.5 degree angle while sharpening, which they recommend you do by folding over a piece of paper twice, once to get a 45 deg angle and then once more, and using this from time to time to check your angle. Other than that, it's very straightforward and you end up with a very sharp knife.

I just received this set today and it is very lovely. The pieces are a nice weight, not too heavy, not too light, but they feel substantial. The silver is very shiny, much shinier than the picture shows them to be. The beading at the bottom and near the top really makes it stand out, this set could be used casually or with fine china. The serving set is very nice as well. I'm very happy with this set and would highly recommend it. I bought it for everyday use to replace a set that was missing many pieces. It is dishwasher safe which was a plus for me, so I hope it holds up well over time. Don't hesitate to buy it, it's really pretty!

International Silver Smithfield 20-Piece Flatware Set

International Silver Smithfield 20-Piece Flatware SetI have gotten this set of flatware based on the picture and on the only review that gave a 5 star. I can say that the product picture is much better looking than the actual product. I bought a set of Oneida Tuscany 20-Piece Flatware 2-3 years ago which is a couple bucks more expensive than this one. It is, however, much better in quality. I am quite disappointed with this set but I suppose with this price, I cannot expect TOO much (the spoons and forks are thin and can easily be bent). Hence I gave it a 3 star instead of 1.

Black & Decker CO100 Spacemaker Traditional Multi-Purpose Can Opener, White

Black & Decker CO100 Spacemaker Traditional Multi-Purpose Can Opener, WhiteIf you have a recessed under-cabinet surface like I have, with a 1 1/2 inch skirt, nothing provided with the unit will enable you to mount it. The spacers are insufficient and the screws are too short, and nowhere in the documentation is there a cure. But before you go crazy trying to find screws and spacers long enough to jerry-rig a mount, as so many have done, call Black and Decker customer service and get parts. They know about the problem and have long screws and mounts to correctly mount the unit.

I haven't yet been able to try mine, so I don't know how good it is. But whoever is responsible for the absence 0f longer screws or advice on how to get them ought to be skinned.

The Amazon.com process, super deal, and availability for this unit were enough to sell me, but there were also other factors.

Initially I was becoming desperate as there were very few choices and none locally on this island out in the middle of the Pacific ocean.

First I needed a replacement for my 15 year old underconter machine.

Second Nothing that sets on the counter is welcome in my kitchen unless there is no other way.

Third I read all of the reviews of all existing in the market place machines.

Nobody really liked any of them for a variety of reasons not related to opening cans.

Fourth the reviews of this machine by all concerned were better than for other machines.

The bag ripper and sharpener are wasted on me I am far too tall to use them and the sharpening steel and fillet knife are too handy anyway.

YES SHARPENING STEELS WORK REALLY WELL AS THEY LEAVE THE PERFECT EDGE FOR PAPER AND MEAT WHEN USED ON CARBON STEEL BLADES. You already know that you only use one knife in your kitchen for everything short of chopping. If you lost it you would be devestated.

THE GOOD NEWS

IT WORKS LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO

IT COMES WITH ALL THE STUFF YOU NEED TO MOUNT IT

THE BAD NEWS

THE DESIGNER WAS PROBABLY 80 P0UNDS AND 4 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL

YOU REALLY HAVE TO DUCK DOWN TO SEE HOW TO SKEWER THE CAN TO GET IT GOING

BUT IT WORKS WHICH IS BETTER THAN THE OTHERS. My old presto worked a lot better but it was made in the U.S.A. and that is a hard act to follow. For a Chinese can opener this one is pretty good.

Today that is as good as it is going to get for stuff you can buy over the counter and if you want a better one you will have to get the commercial hand crank $300 wall mount one that will pull the top off anything all day long for a hundred years.

I AM PLEASED WITH IT AND WILL REMAIN SO UNTIL IT FAILS AND BY THEN ALL CANS WILL HAVE RIP TOPS LIKE CAMPBELLS SOUP.

seems to work fine as a can opener but very loud/grindy sounding motor. I really do not like the fold down front cover and would not have bought this item had the listing made it clear to me that there was a fold down front cover. the last Spacesaver can opener from B & D that we had the entire opener rotated out of view for a closed, smooth surface when not in use.

also, I've had numerous Spacesaver items coffee makers, can openers, etc., over the years and not a single one of them used the same hole pattern for mounting. this one was no different. had to drill 4 new holes in the counter even though I was replacing a B & D Spacesaver can opener with a B & D Spacesaver can opener. why the heck can't B & D get smart about this simple stuff and use a common template for their mounting for a given product line??? seems SO common sense.

sorry, not at all impressed with this product and I'm being generous giving it 3 stars.

Edgeware 50146 Angle Adjust Adjustable Manual Sharpener

Edgeware 50146 Angle Adjust Adjustable Manual SharpenerA knife is only as good as how sharp and well maintained its blade's edge is. An inexpensive $25 Victorinox chef's knife that has its blade well maintained, is much more valuable and useful in the long run than say, a $200 Wusthof whose blade is neglected. If you do a lot of cooking that involves chopping or cutting and/or have a lot of knives (particularly expensive ones) that you care about, you should have a sharpener.

One of the most attractive features of this sharpener is the selectable edge angle. While most knife makers use similar angles, certain blades, like Japanese santoku chefs knives, use very fine angles, or are only ground one one side. Unless you are a pro with a sharpening steel, this sharpener's selectable angle makes maintenance of exact angles a cinch.

Many consumer grade kitchen knives use a larger angle (>20deg), with a consideration for the common consumer that doesn't maintain their knives. This allows for durability and redundancy, but it also sacrifices how well a blade can cut.

The Edgeware's angle selection can allow someone to either maintain the manufacturer's edge, or to customize their blades to have finer, sharper angles (with some increase of making the edge slightly more brittle). Conversely, particularly for pocket knives carried every day, I use a larger angle for improved durability.

I'm very happy with this purchase. The large grip makes it hard to hurt yourself while sharpening and honing a blade, while making it easy to keep stable while you run the knife through. If you're considering buying someone a nice knife as a gift, consider getting them a nice sharpener too.

works very good just as good a motorized one can be used on all types knives , that nice but you do have glide the blade

about 15 times on both corse and fine so if that too much go for one with a motor

Storage is an issue. I use the box it came in.
