Lenox Holiday Gatherings Cake Server

Lenox Holiday Gatherings Cake ServerThis item was great for my Fall Wedding not the usual cake serving set and we will have no regrets using it after the wedding. They look very nice. I bought the Server and the Knife together neither were in perfect condition (a few dings glue that shouldn't be there...) but I'm not going to return it. I'd say if you are pickier, find a really good seller. The Items were great the condition not so great.

This is a beautiful piece to add to any serving collection. The only problem I seem to have with it, is that it tarnishes pretty easily unless it is kept wrapped in tissue paper.

I got one as a gift and liked it so much that I bought one for my sister, who loves it, too. A perfect holiday hostess gift.

Oneida Voss 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Oneida Voss 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8I really love the weight of this flatware set. I already had a set of these; however, my son had thrown away about 4 of the spoons, so I wanted to get another set, so if I have company there would be enough spoons to go around. It is a very nice look that can go casual or more formal. I highly recommend.

I purchased the knife set for my son's birthday. He had viewed a commercial on the Food Network with Guy Fieri using the utensils. He immediately called me to check the prices. I knew these knives would be a winner for his present. He was very happy and surprised, then went on to report a few days later how well they performed in his kitchen!! I was a heroine!! :)

I am a line cook by trade, and I purchased two sets of these knives. One was for myself working in a professional kitchen, the other set was a gift for my mother. The only complaint I have about these knives is that they are a bit flashy. Other than that I can't complain, they hold a good edge, are well balanced, and feel very nice in your hand. I would recommend these knives to anyone who wants a great set of knives at a very affordable price.

Wusthof 4455 10-Inch Sharpening Steel, Ceramic

Wusthof 4455 10-Inch Sharpening Steel, CeramicI own two sets of Chef Knives. Cutco and Wusthof. Both are fine instruments but, neither hold an edge worth a darn. I've tried several "steels", including the "V" type ceramic sharpening blocks and the sharpening systems recomended by both companies.

I recieved a gift certificate for Christmas so I thought what the heck I'll buy the Wusthof 4455 10 inch sharpening Steel/Ceramic. It is the best investment I have made in a long time. This Ceramic steel works like a champ. I have used it on every knife I own including my bread knives. This Ceramic puts a factory edge on knives with little effort. A few swipes and you are good to go.

No Cons about it. I would recomend this to anyone. In fact I dumped my other steels and this is the only one in my kitchen.

Enjoy and watch your fingers.

Mark

I bought one of theses Wusthof ceramic sharpeners when I started culinary school 6 years ago. It hasn't lost a bit of its grit after hundreds of thousands of swipes and is perfect for the ultra-hard steel of top Asian and German cutlery. Cleans up easily with soap and water or stone oil. I recently ordered a second one, but only because the first was stolen! This thing will be the last "honing steel" you ever buy.

I have a few very good knives, that I keep up after every use. This sharpening rod, has kept my knives razor sharp. I was even able to revive a good knife that I had let go too long.

Pro's:

Very easy to sharpen my knives, and keep them sharp.

Cons:

1. Metal tends to wear off of the knife and onto the ceramic, making the ceramic less coaese, and therefore not able to sharpen anymore. You have to wipe down the sharpening rod each time you use it, or it will become less useful.

2. No instructions to tell you about the best way to use the rod, or how to care for and maintain the rod.

Suggestions:

1. If you don't know how to sharpen a knife properly (I just learned myself), go to youtube and watch some how to's.

2. Practice on a knife you do not care about at first to get the feel of a ceramic sharpenning rod, especially If you have expensive knives and do not want to ruin them.

The quality of this sharpener is on par with the Wusthof knives themselves. First class. I was struggling with getting a good edge from the standard steel sharpener. Several passes on the ceramic unit brought the knives back to factory sharpness. This is a must for those people serious about keeping their expensive Wusthof blades sharp!

Much more sharpening friction and it actually sharpens. Nothing else to say that other reviews don't.

Shun Kaji Fusion Bread Knife, 9-Inch

Shun Kaji Fusion Bread Knife, 9-InchJust have to love this Kaji Fusion line of knives. They perform impeccably and look fantastic. The 9" bread knife is pretty sweet. Seriously sharp, wonderfully detailed, and solidly constructed. It didn't come in the originaly Shun packaging which is annoying, but not something to really rant about. This great knife easily tackles more than just bread.....tomatoes are a great example. It's definitely on the high end of the price scale but I was fortunate to get one substantially cheaper than the suggested price.

OXO Good Grips Serrated Peeler, Black

OXO Good Grips Serrated Peeler, BlackI purchased this product because it was recommend on America's Test Kitchen. I didn't expect much, but I was wrong. The serrations do seem to improve the cutting ability of this blade.

I find that I reach for this peeler more frequently than I do my non-serrated peeler. It not only works well on tomatoes, but also on lemons, asparagus, sweet potatoes and butternut squash. I believe that this peeler could function well as the only peeler in a kitchen.

If you need a new peeler, try buying one of these before purchasing a standard peeler. I have been pleasantly surprised at how well this peeler works on both delicate and hard vegetables.

I like using this to peel kiwi fruit. It gives a nice clean peeling to the fruit. A regular paring knife will take too much of the skin hence too much of the flesh. But you must be careful with it, I once cut the tip of my pointer finger while peeling the kiwi fruit and it was quite painful. The serrated blades are very, very sharp. Another negative about this peeler is that the skin of the kiwi fruit got stuck on the teeth of the blades and I had to manually pluck out the skin. I think this slows down the rhythm and thus the efficiency of the peeler. My experience is that if you peel "slippery" fruit or vegetable like kiwi or tomato, you must be very careful that the fruit does not slip out of your hand when you use this peeler or you might risk injuring yourself just like I did. I usually cradle the fruit in paper towel to prevent from slippage and peel with extra caution.

This is a jewel. Takes the skin off nice and clean. Just the tool to get rid of those tough skins on a few tomatoes and no more fuzzy peaches. Just bought 6 more for family and friends.

This is one of those simple tools that one takes for granted until the realization comes that small changes make big differences. I'm just ordering my second one now, the first having served a long and honorable career. The addition of very fine serrations to the edges on this peeler greatly improves its performance with thin-skinned or juicy products like tomatoes, peaches, mangoes, kiwi, and the like. Practice with it until your peeling stroke begins with the slightest sideways slide...it only takes a little...and you can make fast work of an otherwise messy and tedious job. If, as one reviewer noted, you have trouble with peel sticking between the blades, try tapering your peeling stroke as it comes to an end. This will cause the peel to taper to a point and fall cleanly from the blade. It just takes a little practice.

If I had a bushel of fruit to peel, I'd still opt for a razor-sharp paring knife. But for normal household quantities, or if your skill with a small knife is not all it could be, this is a great addition to the kitchen gadget drawer.

I purchased four of these OXO Serrated peelers on the 4 for 3 promotion last Christmas. Initially they worked great and I loved then that is until this fall. This is when I started having difficulty with them. When I looked carefully at the blade, I could see that some the teeth of that make up the serrated edge were bent and and some had broken off. Once the peeler looses some of its teeth it is no longer effective. The bent teeth catch on the produce. When you press harder to get it going it bounces off the produce and into the hand holding the produce. Ouch! Plus, Where the teeth are broken off, the peel remains on the produce. My Oxo serrated peelers failed one by one and now, not even a year later, all have been thrown away.

I would recommend the Mario Batali serrated peeler instead. I have one of these that I have been using for several years and it is still intact and going strong. Though the Mario Batali doesn't peel the produce quite as well as the Oxo did when it was new...it has stood the test of time, which is very important to me. I will be purchasing more of the Mario Batali peelers to replace the broken peelers. Amazon carries these too -Mario Batali The Italian Kitchen Collection Serrated Peeler

Gourmet Settings Symphony 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4

Gourmet Settings Symphony 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4I lucked out and scored place settings for eight, and a serving set at a local discount store. This flatware screams quality! It has a balanced weighty feel and sensual curves that are a feast for the senses! I have had a set for eight for two months now and it is wearing beautifully. We put them in the dishwasher (sometimes I hand wash and they are so easy to clean!) , but I am careful not to leave them soaking in the sink for too long. We are hosting Easter (I am rather inexperienced at this hosting stuff!) and will have 8 guests so my loving Mother has ordered another set for us from Amazon! Now the table will look great, but I will need her to help me with the food! Great flatware! Thanks Mom!

Wusthof High Carbon Stainless Steel Come Apart Kitchen Shears Blue

Wusthof High Carbon Stainless Steel Come Apart Kitchen Shears BlueThese Wusthof come-apart kitchen shears are perfect to butterfly a chicken!

PROS:

Shears open and close easily for cutting. They are not at all stiff to use!

The blades are short (8 ins by 0.5 ins). This ensures good leverage for making precision cuts whether it's deboning a chicken, cutting up veggies or even outdoors as a home gardening shears!

Blades are made with high-carbon stainless steel so they stay sharp longer.

One blade is serrated to prevent slippage during cutting and another is smooth to ensure a clean cut.

Bone notch at end of kitchen shear blade easily cuts through chicken bones

Blades meet together for smooth, precision cutting.

When opened to the fullest, the blades come apart for easy cleaning.

Rugged synthetic handles for either right or left handed users.

These shears have steel-tooth insets in the handles to twist open bottle and jar caps.

CONS:

If you open the shears too far while cutting, the blades will come apart. However, to open the shears 'this far', you must be trying to cut a watermelon for the blades to come apart while in use!

These are precision crafted shears proudly made by Wusthof knife making company of Germany. Wusthof is family owned for 7 generations and has been in the knife making business since 1813.

If you are looking for a good quality pair of shears at a reasonable price, then these Wusthof Come-Apart Kitchen Shears are just the tool for your kitchen, home improvement tool kit or gardening shed!

Hope my review was helpful ... Jeffrey A. (Jeff)

Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Cook's Cutlery Set

Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Cook's Cutlery SetI bought this set for my wife for Christmas, mainly because I was stuck on ideas as to what to get her. She spends a lot of time in the kitchen and she had been using an old set of Chicago Cutlery and several unbranded cheap giveaway knives for several years. None of those knives were that great or that sharp and I hated trying to put an edge on them even though I'm pretty good at sharpening knives.

Essentially, knives are just sharpened pieces of steel that appear to be pretty simple, straightforward instruments that shouldn't be difficult to produce. But a little experience with some poor examples prove this to not be the case. Like most seemingly simple things, the simplicity is an illusion.

My experience has not been with kitchen knives but it has been with "working" knives. Pocket knives and fixed blade knives designed for hard use in the nasty jobs I have to do daily from removing staples in papers at the office to chopping down woody weeds in the backyard to cutting up boxes, rope, cording and thin pieces of aluminum. I know the value of a blade that can take a good edge and hold it through a lot of abuse.

I did a little research and found several brands of kitchen knives that had universal respect. Wusthof always was at or near the top of everyone's list. More often than not, it was number one in the reviews and surveys I came across.

My wife was a little apprehensive about the sharpness of the knives out of the box. She quickly realized the value of a really sharp kitchen knife and, in no time, she was commenting on how much easier it was to work with the Wusthof's than the cheapo knives she had been using. She has really been making good use of the paring knife and the chef's knife in the days since Christmas. My own limited use of the chef's knife from this set confirms how well it handles and cuts compared to the clunky Chicago Cutlery chef's knife.

After looking over more reviews, I've ordered the Wusthof 7" hollow edge santoku to go with this set. Designed for thin cuts, it will fit in well with the other knives. I'll probably also get a serrated edge bread knife in the not-too-distant future to round out the Wusthof set. This is likely to be a lifetime purchase for our household and that makes the high price more of an investment. I'm well pleased and so is my wife.

A sharp edge , the ability to hold it, and balance are truly worth the price.

01/05/13 Update Rating changed from five stars to three. All of the knife handles have cracked despite careful use and hand washing. This is unsanitary and inexcusable in an expensive culinary tool. The blades continue to provide a keen, long lasting edge.

Buy Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Cook's Cutlery Set Now

After doing lots of research, I decided to purchase this set of Wüsthof knives and am glad I did. I was concerned that the slicer and chef's knives might be short, but they are perfect! I actually like them better than my older longer knives because they are easier to control. I hadn't realized that my old knives were just a little too long for me all these years.

I like the balance on the knives and the handles feel good in my hand. The way the blade and handle come together on the knives is nice and smooth and much easier to clean than my old knives. My fingers feel protected. The blades are nice and sharp.

I am happy with my purchase!

I bought this set of knives to replace some that had been stolen. I didn't want the entire block set again because experience taught me which knives received the most use. I didn't want to buy everything separately and the kits I'd seen previously didn't include the sharpening rod. When I saw this set, which included all the things I wanted, I bought it immediately. It's SO nice to have good knives again!

KitchenArt Pro Measuring Butter Knife, Champagne Satin Finish

KitchenArt Pro Measuring Butter Knife, Champagne Satin FinishHandy little gadget. Butter that comes wraped in marked paper is not very accurate as the butter often does not line up with the wrapping measurements. the measuring butter knife is very easy to use and is also useful for unmarked butter wrapping.

I thought this measuring butter knife would be great, yes it's a great idea to get exact measurements of butter for recipes....however, the claim that it is "satin finish" leads one to believe that it is indeed satin finish metal....but, I used it one time, washed it, and much to my surprise on one side the "satin finish" came off leavinga blank area. I was pretty surprised when I realized it's just paint....the other side still shows measurement guide, but I assume it too will eventually come off. What a waste.

I always put my stick of butter in the holder and throw out the wrapper that has measurements on it. Now when i go to cook I can just whip out this knife instead of trying to find another stick of butter to use as a measurement.

Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility

Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated UtilityI have had this knife for several years about five. I refer to it as my "favorite" knife. I absolutely abuse it (run it through the dishwasher practically ever other day; leave it in water)and it's still the best knife I have. It's wonderful on tomatoes, all types of fruit, and cutting breads. I can't say enough about it. Buy this knife.

This is probably my second favorite (or at least, second most used) knife in the kitchen. If I could only have one knife, it would certainly be my full sized cook's knife. However, I probably reach for this knife more, especially when it comes to smaller, more common jobs. (Slicing a baguette, making a sandwich, light prep work, etc.)

The knife is stamped steel as is consistent with the rest of Wusthof's Gourmet line. The blade has a wonderful combination of flexibility and rigidity. I have no problems filleting or butterflying with this knife. I'd almost call this knife agile. If you fillet, pocket, or butterfly a lot, I'd prefer a Wusthof Gourmet knife to one of Wusthof's forged knives. I have examples of both, and prefer the thinner, stamped Gourmet blades for jobs that require flexibility.

The serrations are on the right, or correct, side of the knife (if you're right handed that is.) Serrations on the right side mean that the cut portion is pushed away from the larger piece as you cut through. So many manufacturers put the serrations on the left side of the knife. This is a subtle yet important distinction. If the serrations are on the wrong side of the blade, you will find that the blade has a tendency to pull towards you and to get stuck. This leads to ugly, uneven cuts.

The knife's tang is full length, though not full depth. It's not that the tang has been tapered to reduce weight or change balance. Rather, the tang itself is only half as deep as the handle itself is. In use, this doesn't matter much. However, if you're a stickler for aesthetics or snob appeal, you should know that this knife won't match the rest of your full tang set. Wusthof (nor any of the other major manufacturers) make a rounded tip, full tang, serrated knife in this size, so I am quite content to compromise here.

I am quite pleased with this knife, but honestly, I wouldn't buy it a second time. (Alright, truthfully, a third time. I already have two.) If I were in the market for a rounded tip, serrated knife, I'd almost certainly buy the Victorinox Cutlery 4-1/2-Inch Wavy Edge with Round Tip Steak Knife as a set or individually. I find that the Victorinox cuts just as well, but is nearly 20% of the price. Neither knife is (really) full tang, and both are stamped steel. The only real advantage that the Wusthof has is in snob appeal, and that's just not something I care to indulge in. A small advantage of the Wusthof is that it does seem to resist water spots better than the Victorinox knives.

Buy Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility Now

This might come across as petty, but the blade is 12cm which is just under 4 3/4". So the blade is a hair longer than advertised....big whoop. Other than that this knife is everthing I'd expect from Wusthof in sharpness and utility. I really like this blade size because as a bread baker I often need a serrated blade but not one the length of a traditional bread knife. This would also make a great knife for cutting baguettes for service. This is a gift mom would actually use (probably every day). A plastic blade guard would be a nice addition.

This knife makes a fabulous steak knife. The serrated edge is very sharp and grips steak well, and the 4 1/2" size is just the right length. It's also great for tomatoes. My mom has a whole set of KitchenAid steak knives, and will only use this.

Want Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility Discount?

I bought this item this month and have used it for the first time this week. The knife feels balanced and looks nice.

I have some other knives in my kitchen, but a good serrated knife can not be replaced. I wanted a good serrated knife for slicing bagels and other breads. This will do nicely for that job. I was concerned about a 4.5" knife working well enough. This is not an issue.

I have even used it to slice onions and other veggies. Last night I used it to slice the end off of a garden hose! It cut right though the reinforced hose.

This will become my 2nd favorite knife in the house. The #1 "fav" is my kyocera ceramic blade that I have had for several years. Drop that fragile knife and all you have will be nice memories; this Wusthof knife is tuff.

Thanks to all who have left feedback. I rely on the feedback when making purchases.

Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, Medium

Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, MediumFirst of all, this is a big stone. It's 12 inches long and it weighs over 3 lbs. It is not a natural stone. I like to use oil on a stone, and this stone soaked up an enormous amount of oil. Don't use sharpening oil; use 2 cycle motor oil, the kind that is mixed with gasoline. I don't think water would work to keep this stone from clogging up. All that being said, it does what you would expect: it puts a pretty good edge on a large knife without too much work. It's a pretty soft stone so it's hard to say how long it will last before it losses its flat surface. Knives sharpened on this stone need a few strokes on a finer grit natural stone to finish the job. No instructions included.

***Knowing how to sharpen a knife is a skill that must be learned, I do not recommend purchasing this if you do not currently know how to use it OR do not intend to learn. You will only ruin your knives, or at best, require the assistance of a professional to repair them.***

This 12" non-natural stone is ideal for replacing an edge on your cutlery or sharpening tools such as axes or pruning sheers. It can be used with oil, if you use it, plan to use it, or even would ever consider using it on a piece of cutlery that MIGHT contact food, DO NOT USE INDUSTRIAL OILS! ONLY USE FOOD GRADE MINERAL OIL. It can also be used with water very well, adding a few drops of household dish detergent to the water will help it stay with the stone and reduce some friction as well as aid in keeping the stone clean/free of metal particles. Out of the box, the stone should be "dressed", this can be done with a dressing stone or with the blade of some old tool... ax, lawn mower blade, etc. before using it on an expensive knife.

This stone cuts quickly and is ideal for the ultra-wear-resistant German stainless steel used to produce some of the worlds most renowned cutlery, Wusthof, Henckel, etc and will allow you to repair and resharpen your knives quickly. I would avoid this stone for use with any knife of Japanese make, the steel such knives are made from is very susceptible to wear and should not be sharpened on *whet* stones any courser than 750 grit, the grit of this stone is improvidently 80/150grit.

Pros:

1) Large at 12" long

2) Hard, very slow to wear, with proper care, the average person will get a few lifetimes out of this stone.

3) Easy to clean and maintain.

4) Consistent, even texture through out the stone.

5) Heavy... it makes a great paperweight when dry and not in use...

Cons:

1) Does not fit in most stone holders.

Bottom line, I would recommend this stone to anyone who knows how to use a sharpening stone to sharpen knives/tools and the difference between sharpening German and Japanese knives, for your German knives and many of your tools, this will not disappoint you.

Buy Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, Medium Now

I have several abused knives with terrible edges on them, and this stone is exactly what I needed. The stone I received is grey and black and marked Winco #83, not purple like the one pictured. The black side is very coarse for removing a lot of metal quickly. The grey side is medium, not what I would call fine.

After some practice with a couple junk knives, I was able to restore a proper bevel to the edge of my kitchen and pocket knives. Then all it took was a little finishing with my hard Arkansas stone to put a sharp edge on them.

I would not buy this as your only stone, as the "fine" side is not fine enough for finishing. However, the size made it easy for a novice sharpener like myself to get a good bevel. Buy this stone, and another fine one for finishing, and you will be set.

Final thought: This thing is a sponge, and will absorb a ton of water. I definitely would not use oil on it.

This sharpening stone is 2 sided, coarse and medium. This stone is great for yard tools and very beat up blades, but I found even the finer side to be to coarse to put fine cutting edge for my kitchen knives. It will quickly fix a damaged edge but after using this you need to use a finer stone or a good stop to get a really sharp edge.

This stone arrived well packaged and on time.

Never had a decent chef's knife until I finally bought this based on reviews for it's cheapness and quality. Hitherto, I had an old cheap dull knife that could hardly even slice a raw potato. I had to strain to get the blade through. Then I got the Victorinox, and as I struggled to release it from it's vinyl sheath, it fell out and sliced my pinky finger. I was scared of this knife. It was the sharpest knife I ever handled. But oh man, I can't believe how effortless chopping/slicing can be. It practically will slice a potato by itself. I've had this knife for about 3 weeks and I'm still amazed when I chop up veggies and lament having been content with a crappy knife for so long.

I don't know any better, but this knife impresses the hell out of me. Maybe knives that are 100-200 bucks do a better job, but it can't be that much better. The Victorinox does the job a knife is supposed to do cut food with ease. I also bought the matching steel sharpener which I use maybe once a week only because it's there, not because the knife is too dull to use.

I love this knife. It's sharper than any knife I have purchased. Stays sharp and cuts tomatoes like butter, unlike some knives that smash the tomato flat. I am slowly buying a complete Victorinox knife set a few pieces at a time. If I could afford the complete set I would buy them. Worth every dollar I've spent.

MIU France Serrated Steak Knives with Riveted Poly Handle, Set of 2

MIU France Serrated Steak Knives with Riveted Poly Handle, Set of 2I needed two new steak knives for my knife block since the set that I was gifted contained only six (and I had eight slots to fill). I searched Amazon (the best place to find obscure things in either large or small quantities) and found what appeared to be mostly matching knives from what I already had. I got these and upon first use I noticed that they were much higher quality than my other knives in the set and I now make it a point to have these set at my spot whenever we have company over. Great buy for a great price on Prime, I would definitely recommend them to any of my friends! (also if you found this review helpful, please give me a thumbs up -thanks:)

I bought these because I never seem to have enough steak knives.

They really match our existing set very nicely, except I think these

MIU knives are a better quality. Highly recommended

Kai AH0100 Pure Komachi 2 Kitchen Shears

Kai AH0100 Pure Komachi 2 Kitchen ShearsBe careful......these scissors are VERY sharp! They are made in Japan using very good quality stainless steel. These scissors appear to be well made and fit my large hands well. I did not purchase for "heavy duty" tasks so I cannot comment on how they would perform in that regard. They are great for trimming herbs, cutting pastry sheets, and similar tasks. I would be wary of trying to use them for something like cutting through bones. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the product.

These are the best kitchen scissors ever! They fit on my knife block and I love the color. Inexpensive and works like a charm. m Cuts through most anything.

Shun DM0517W 7-Inch Ken Onion Hollow-Ground Santoku Knife

Shun DM0517W 7-Inch Ken Onion Hollow-Ground Santoku KnifeThe Knife came today, it arrived razor sharp and beautiful.

The Cutting edge material is not VG10 as described, but the new propriatary VGMAX steel that Shun has been converting their knives to. It is supposed to be a bit less brittle, but based on VG-10.

I bought a Shun 22 knife Block from Amazon and was suprised to find that the knife did not fit the wide slots. .Shun 22-Slot Bamboo Knife Storage Block It would fit the very wide cleaver slot, but thats already taken with my cleaver. I do not want that edge pushing against the hard bamboo and getting dull or bent over.

There appears to be no good reason as to why there could not be a wider slot, there is plenty of room to have one, so I'll be getting out a saw and enlarging the appropriate slot. I'm not yet sure if I should make a keyhole shape so that all of the cutting edge will fit into the block, or just let it rest on the bolster.

At any rate, its a wonderful blade, and I love the handle, it fits my large hand

Update I took a meat saw to the slot in my Shun Bamboo block the one under the kitchen shears and it was easy to widen the sloot to almost 2-1/2 inches. (A meat saw is basically a giant hack saw with a blade 24 inches long) However, the blade of the knife does not fully insert into the block, so I need to make the slot keyhole shaped so the top of the knife bolster will slide into the slot until the blade is fully inserted. Its very sharp, and not good to have 1/2-3/4 inch of blade sticking out.

Another Update: After just one use, the edge of the blade crumbled and broke away. It was only used to cut vegetables (tomatoes, onions, carrots and celery), and only a small amount of these. I use a nylon cutting board, and the knife has been babied.

I suspect that the steel was overhardened, which makes it extremely brittle. I have ordered a replacement, so hopefully, its not batch related, but is a individual thing.

I've now had the replacement knife and used it for a few weeks with no further issues. I've had to hone it a few times, once it was so dull that it wouldn't slice tomatoes, just crush them, but a few strokes with a ceramic hone and it was back to full sharpness. I'm pretty sure that the first one had a issue with the metal, I have another Shun vegetable knife and its had no issues either, and its also the VG Max alloy.

This Santoku exceeded my expectations in all regards. A wonderful kitchen tool. Kudos to Ken Onion for this blade. I reach for it before my Global or Wusthof knives.

I had to buy a kapoosh holder to keep it on the counter, but this eliminated one of the blocks I had.

This is my go to knife for everything now. Nice and sharp, and balanced. I can see this knife getting years of use and handed down. It is very well built and feels very balanced.

I have several of the shun classic knives and I love them. This knife was my Christmas present to myself and it's wonderful! Its a great size, and I love the slight curve in the blade. Its different from the classic shun shape. The curve makes chopping herbs and mincing so easy! I've used many other knives and Shun is by far my favorite! Thin and strong with an extremely comfortable handle.

Knork Premium Plastic Reuseable 4 Pc Pack

Knork Premium Plastic Reuseable 4 Pc PackTheis is a great idea on paper. Who doesn't want environmentally friendly plastic tableware that is light, for those who can use that type of help, and attractive? Unfortunatel;y, after using and washing these for about a week or so, I notice that the fork end started becoming shorter. It seems to be disintegrating, although I can't say where it's going. Thinking that I might be ingesting it made me queazy so I finally have to throw the rest of the package away.

My mother is in a personal care home. I bought her metal knorks and they come up missing. The price is much better for the plastic version and they work just as well without the high cost of the metal ones and they work just as well.

I love Knorks!!! Even the plastic ones. As I have said before in my Knork reviews, they are STURDY. I love that in eating implements!!!

Recently I was asked to take a stab at using a new and innovative eating utensil called the "Knork®," which is a cross between a knife and a fork. My family and I tried it for a couple of weeks and decided we really liked it! One family member has mobility issues and cannot easily manipulate a knife and fork, so this unusual piece of flatware is much easier for him to cut and pick up his food using only one hand.

At first glance this looks like an ordinary fork (see picture). However, when you turn it sideways you will see the head of the fork has a uniquely designed "finger platform" so that pressure can be applied without any discomfort to the fingertip. The outer tines are broad, beveled, and curved so the Knork® can easily cut through food, but isn't sharp enough to cause an injury.

The reusable plasticware is great for children who may find it easier to manipulate than the heavier, stainless steel version. Plus, it's also convenient for traveling, the office, cookouts, camping, etc.

Be sure to also check out the original Knork 4-pc. Flatware Set, which is made of sturdy stainless steel with an enlarged handle for easier gripping and is available in several finishes such as satin, gloss, and matte.
