Miracle Blade Knife Block

I got this for my husband, who had received the Miracle Blade set as a Christmas gift 2 years ago. He was originally going to get rid of them bc he didn't just want to throw them in a drawer. He looked a few times, but saw that the block was soo expensive! I got it for him for an anniversary present (5 years-wood) and I was SO pleased with the price, how quickly it shipped, and the condition it arrived in. Best of all-Hubby LOVED it!

You get what you pay for. It does the job. Although a few of my steak knife slots weren't cut fully and the knives didn't fit all the way in. Easy fix. Other than that it is a decent knife block.

I purchased this knife block without purchasing the Miracle Blade Knife set, and it has been fine. I have found other knives that fit very well in the different slots, and I was surprised and happy to find that this knife block came with four Miracle Blade knives. I think I simply didn't read the description well enough, because the four knives are even featured on the product's picture--still, it was a nice surprise!).

This knife block is sturdy, and it doesn't slide around on the counter because it has gripping pads on the bottom. I am very happy with this purchase.

Global GS-8 - 3 inch, 7cm Bird's Beak Peeling Knife

I have purchased many Global knives and love them all. For the money I feel like they are hard to beat. However i am very disappointed with this knife. Out of the box this is the most dull Global knife I have ever used. I had a hard time pealing a potato with this knife. I will be purchasing more Global knives I am sure, but I will be purchasing them from a brick and mortar store where I can test the knife before I purchase it as I have my other knives.

I thought I wanted a "birds beak" shaped knife. However after using it, the curve is useless. There is nothing this knife can do that a straight paring knife cannot do. The turned blade makes it difficult to find the edge while cutting through a fruit or vegetable. Also, this design is very difficult to sharpen.

Global makes a good product, and I have many Global knives that I love. However, this design of knife I would not recommend, pick out a regular shaped paring knife. You will be happier in the long run.

OXO Good Grips Spreader

The first time I put the spreader in the dishwasher, it came out with a bunch of small rust spots on the blade. I've tried to buff them out, but they are still there. It looks dirty so I don't even use it anymore.

I got one of these with an Oxo bagel holder, and frankly I don't use it all that often. My kids are another matter. They tell me this is MUCH easier to make PB&J sandwiches with. They use it for jelly on toast, making sandwiches, putting cream cheese or butter on a bagel, etc. If you're an adult accustomed to just grabbing the nearest table knife, I wouldn't bother. But if you've got kids, you might want to consider it. The smaller size and grippy handle seems to be easier for smaller hands to handle and hey, they can make their own sandwiches to take to school!

The design,mfg. and usage are excellent but the choice of material is not. Since when is it OK to use recycled stainless steel in food products, this means the stainless steel they used contained scrap iron,steel, aluminum, motor oil,etc. This is indicated by rusty spot and staining on the blades. Why does made in USA have to follow USDA,NSF guide lines for our health but made in China does not, once again high profit margins are more important than our health.

First time we washed these in dishwasher rust appeared on blades. The blades are marked "stainless steel".

I have had this spreader for several years now. I really like it, but you have to take REALLY good care of it, or buy a new one every year or so. You must dry it immediately after washing, so that it won't rust (I wash mine in the dishwasher sometimes, but make sure to pull it out right away when it's done). Also, the grip at the bottom became unglued shortly after using it. This is possible due to me washing it in the dishwasher though.

Now when I wash the spreader, I remove the handle (water will get into the handle and you don't want that), wash it by hand and dry it off. Then I let it set a few hours more, and put the item back together again. If this sounds like too much hassle for you, then you might look elsewhere.

This is the perfect Egyptian Cotton Jacket for when you need to look extra nice in the kitchen. I have two of them that I maintain and use when I stage (work a night for free to experience the culture in a certain kitchen and learn their techniques or as a second step to an interview). They're great for that as they look very professional but don't have any colored trim. I think that trim makes you look like your competing with the head chef.

These jackets are the perfect weight to stay crisp and remain light enough to keep you cool. You will need to starch and iron them, and when you do please keep an extra eye on the details. They will give you that extra push that you're dressed well without showing off.

The only bad thing is that they are spendy and they will stain. Of course the finer the cotton the harder it is to get stains out but I've found that dropping them in an oxyclean soak as soon as you can after use and working them a bit over a couple days in the soak will prevent almost any food stain. Of course there is no cure for a metal stain from your honing steel or for carbon.

Overall great jacket. Every cook should keep one pressed and ready for that impromptu opportunity in your dream kitchen or the brunch that you have to cut prime rib in the dining room.

Knife, Serrated Bread & Bagel 8"

This knife is amazing. I just got mine (gift) and it sliced through a thick loaf of oat bread, cutting in a very straight line with no effort. The knife seemed to slide effortlessly through the bread. The blade is slightly curved (like a samurai sword) and the cutting edge has an unusual serration. Maybe this is the secret.

I have to admit I am astounded at the one-star review. I don't know what kind of bread the other user was trying to cut, but I can't imagine that we are even talking about the same product. I cut all the bread I buy (I like thick slices and I also buy a lot of mini-baguettes and bagles) and have been looking for a long time for a knife. Even the expensive knives out there are failures (where did they get the idea that a bread knife should have a broad blade...which of course sticks and seized up in the bread!) and I have yet to find one half this good. This thing is great. I'm going to buy another one for a backup--I think it might work well on tomatoes, etc.

I am very disappointed this knife won't even cut through a fresh load of bread. I guess I got what I paid for.

Master 2 Piece Baby Feeding Set

When our daughter was around a year old, she wanted to have the same tools as daddy and mommy had at the table. We let her use a tiny baby fork and spoon my mother gave us, and then later as she grew, a baby/toddler size fork and spoon that matched our wedding silver. She's two and a half now, and uses a fork and spoon almost as well as an adult, except where strength is an issue. I bought these two pieces as part of a three piece set Reed & Barton Children's Giftware MASTER 3PC BABY MASTER 3 PC BABY SET 4771 18/10 because it's a bit of a pain to be washing the same fork between each meal, and I didn't really want to spring for sterling for pieces that will only be used for a year or two.

The fork and spoon are the same overall size as the ones that match our wedding silver, 4.5 inches long for the fork and 4.25 inches long for the spoon. These lengths are excellent for a toddler's first fork and spoon.

However, there are some issues. The bowl of the toddler spoon is a bit large for her mouth, and would have been considerably large for her when she started using a spoon; a bowl the same size as on the infant feeding spoon would be better. More importantly, the tines on the fork are blunter than on an adult fork, or on our silver toddler fork. For softer foods that are scooped up with a fork rather than speared, this isn't a problem. However, it does means that our daughter has difficulty dealing with foods that need to be speared with the fork fish or a ground steak will often fall apart, while a toddler simply isn't strong enough to push these blunter tines into a piece of regular steak or a roast.

Unfortunately, choices are limited. Sterling is rather expensive for baby ware. For older children, the Oneida children's flatware Oneida Chateau 3-Piece Child Set has a sharper fork, similar to adult forks, but that set is a bit large for a toddler. Overall this set may still be the best choice available for a toddler's first flatware, and it does make an excellent new baby gift.

I was trying to find a small fork and spoon for our 16 month old granddaughter. I had purchased a set earlier, J.I.P. Jungle Animals Cutlery Set, Stainless Steel, that was too large for her age. It was hard to find what I wanted but finally did!

I used this knife at a friends house. The balance is great. You can tell this is a quality knife. The small tip end is great for coring strawberries. The slightly wider area by the base makes it nice for pealing thin skinned items such at potatoes. This is a must for anyone that picks strawberries to core and freeze. I liked it so much I'm purchasing one for myself. You can't get anything like this at local store.

I used to watch my mom use a kife similar to this when I was a kid. I never new what it was for so when I saw it after purchasing other Henkels knives thru the years, I decided to give it a try. I actually first got this knife in a large set of Henckel knives. I absolutely love the knives, Henckel is as good as they get and I love the look and especially the feel of the Pro S series. I wasn't sure how I'd like the hook design but after using it I must say I absolutely love it. It works great for peeling (what its actually made for) but I also love to use it to cut and dice all sorts of things (pretty much anything smaller that I usually cut in my hands). They shape really helps cutting up or stemming things like Strawberries.

If you like Henckel knives I'm sure you'll love this one.

Square 16-Pc Set, Service for 4 (Simple Lines)

These plates are very durable. I had a set of plates that lasted all of one month before I got these. These plates are remarkable! The design is very contemporary, and overall very good looking. I wanted plates with some design to them which means no plain, white plates. But I didn't want floral designs, and a full color plate can sometimes be too bold. This design is perfect for me, and the quality of the plates are even better.

This is my second set of plates. I have dropped them, accidently hit them against the faucet, and they are still in one piece. I love them. The only part of this set I have to be careful about breaking is the cups, they are porcilin. Like my mother and grandmother's sets (which they have had for 20+ years), these are microwave and dishwasher safe.

Cuisinart CTG-00-DB Dough Blender

This may be an unimportant minor kitchen tool, but not only does it blend dough, it easily minces tuna and boiled eggs very finely for tuna or egg salad sandwiches. I had used an old dough blender similar to this for ages, but it eventually stress-fractured at the very thin joints, thus I replaced it with the only thing I was able to find in stores, a similarly styled tool but with FLEXIBLE wires like on a wire whisk. It was worthless; a true engineering disaster. Finally, disgusted, I looked online and found this. It has been wonderful to have a useful dough blender again.

I purchased this item through Amazon about 4 months ago to replace a Pampered Chef blender that broke at the weld. I wanted one that was comfortable to my hand as I have very long fingers and arthritis as well. I read reviews on this item and felt it would meet my needs very well. The blades looked sturdy, not flimsy wires. The problem with this blender is that the plastic handle pulled from the metal base part of the handle and so you have no handle to use. The screws are not long enough to attach down into the metal securely. I have only used this item twice. I love the way the handle fits my hand but the construction end is very poorly thought out or I have the only faulty one made.

I haven't yet called Amazon but will do so today. I am not overly concerned with them not giving me a refund as the Customer Service has always treated me fairly. I have no doubts they will on this as well. I am not going to replace it with the same though. I am going to go with the one that is all metal. Maybe have better luck on that one. Oh and yes, I was cutting cold butter into flour to make a pie crust.

Add on to this review. I couldn't return this product as I guess there is a time limit. That kinda bummed me out as it is a very poorly made item...

I bought this knife a couple of months ago (although not from Amazon) and was impressed. It is short and light and is best suited for chopping, but can also slice and dice fruits, smaller vegetables and herbs. Like all Santoku knives I find that it's really not good at mincing because it lacks the easy rocking motion of knives with bellies (the curved blade on traditional German style chef knives). I also found it difficult to work with on sweet potatoes and other larger vegetables because it is so light and small. I have tried it on meat and it did the job of slicing alright, but I prefer something bigger and sturdier when working with a piece of meat.

This is a home cook knife, suitable for certain tasks. It feels like a razor in your hands and the handle is light and small. It would be ideal for someone who has small hands, works mostly with vegetarian dishes, and small portions.

That being said, it is surprisingly sturdy. I have used a no name honing steel on it and that seems to do the job of realigning the blade all right. It has remained sharp, and not needed stoning, although I've used it almost daily for about four months. I do a lot of cooking with my relatives and this is the knife they all reach for when we cook together.

It is a German knife with a soft steel, compared to most Japanese knives, but in my experience has great edge retention....so far.

Messermeister Two-Sided Sharpening Stone 400 & 1000 Grit

Bottom line: buy something else. The coarse side is too fine for fast cutting and the fine side isn't capable of putting a keen edge on kitchen knives. Also, the description reads 100% Messermeister quality (one would assume from Germany) but the stone itself is made in China read: inferior manufacturing. I certainly will not put first rate cutlery on this second rate stone.

Global G-888/91ST - 9 Piece Knife Set with Block

I have used Global knives professionally as a Chef/Restauranteur and at Home for many years. I still have the first Global I ever bought the 11" Forged Chefs Knife it has done alot of serious cutting and still looks new. I have many more now but that was my first Global and what a knife it is.

The ergonomics and looks alone would sell these knives but couple that with their edge holding and incredible sharpness and they are truly the Ferrari of knives. They offer a perfect nonslip grip for any size hand and the balance and light weight make using them a a breeze. Considering that you will be passing on these knives from generation to generation the cost should not be a serious concern. There are no handles or bolsters to break (or gather germs) they are one piece of perfectly balanced steel. If you take reasonably good care of these knives they will last you a lifetime of hard use and your kids lifetime too. My Globals have chopped, peeled and sliced for literally hundreds of thousands of people. I seriously doubt most of you will put them through that. But it is good to know that they will take it in stride.

I even take mine on vacation with me, not all of them just the basic kit I refuse to cook without them. We take long vacations and know we eat better at the rented home or villa than at most of the restaurants in what ever area we are in. One of the perks of being a Chef, don't worry we still give the finer eateries a spin it is a vacation after all. The locals have to eat too!

You will thank yourself everytime you use these knives, if you know a foodie you really care for get them at least a starter set as a gift. They will love you for it and you will get more great food out of them too.

Life is too short to use cheesy knives! You know the ones.

Yeah these knives rock!

My wife and I have been proud owners of this set of knives for 4 years and they still amaze me how well they have stood up to time. I was cooking professionally at the time when we purchased these knives, and we don't regret purchasing these knives. Every year I sharpen them with a stone and use a steel every so often. Cleaning and maintenance is a breeze, even if you don't sharpen them often, just go to Williams-Sonoma every couple of years to get them sharpened. They are well worth investment in good knives that everybody loves using.
