Magnetic Backed Kitchen or Office Ziggyboard Chalkboard with White Chalk Marker 12 x 16 inches

Magnetic Backed Kitchen or Office Ziggyboard Chalkboard with White Chalk Marker 12 x 16 inchesThis product is wonderful! I wanted something I could place on my fridge and use as a shopping list/memo pad. After reading a few bad reviews of some other similar products on Amazon, I was hesitant to go this route but decided to give it a try. It was worth it!

The magnet is very powerful and sticks to the fridge with no slipping or movement. The white marker that is included with the purchase works great. It doesn't drip or run when writing and easily wipes off with just a damp cloth or paper towel. As I've read from some other product reviews, it doesn't leave any ghosting behind and cleans completely off with no hard scrubbing or chemicals.

I highly recommend both the chalkboard and the marker and will be looking into getting additional marker colors from this same brand.

Sticks to the fridge and doesn't fall off. Fine to write on, but takes some effort to erase. I have to take it off the fridge and wash it in the kitchen sink. If I use a wet wipe, prominent white streaks are left on the board, which looks messy and makes it difficult to see anything else I write on top of it. Also, please note that this surface does not adhere to regular chalk! Only the chalk markers will show up. For the price, I'm willing to make these adjustments. Plus, it's been very useful in our house for keeping up with the chores.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 5-Inch Tomato Knife

Wusthof Grand Prix II 5-Inch Tomato KnifeA good tomato knife should have a feel like it "floats" through your tomato, even if it is overripe.

This is the only knife I know of that really achieves that effect without needing sharpened regularly. It is good for all soft or semi soft foods. You can use it to cut seeded oranges and use the forked tip to pop the seeds right out.

I have one that is now ten years old with daily use. I have *never* sharpened it, and it still "floats" through overripe tomatoes. :)

This tomato knife is awesome, it slices through tomatoes with the greatest of ease. I was initially concerned about it being serrated (i equate serrated with cheap), but this knife has not lost any sharpness and still slices tomatoes as nicely as the day it was first used. I have not regretting spending a little more money to get these quality knives, I will be a lifelong Wusthof customer.

LEM Products .35 HP Stainless Steel Electric Meat Grinder

LEM Products .35 HP Stainless Steel Electric Meat GrinderVery pleased with this grinder. Have had it now for a few months and essentially had bought it to make cat food. It grinds up chicken thigh bones without a problem and that was one of my main concerns that it be powerful enough to do so. We have also started to use it to "make" our own hamburger which once you start doing that you will never go back to store bought. The rate at which it grinds up food is fast. I found I had to have all my meat ready to feed because it ground just that quickly. The machine itself is sort of heavy, but I generally do not have problems lifting it. It cleans up nicely, I do use my bottle brush for some of the pieces to make sure and get to those hard to reach places. I would certainly recommend this machine to others!

First off, I love the circuit breaker, which shuts off the power to the grinder if meat gets trapped in the auger. If the KitchenAid stand mixer I had been using to grind meat was equipped similarly...I wouldn't have burned out the motor. Alas, the KA is not well designed and it is now a piece of junk in the basement. When it came time to choosing a new appliance to grind meat, I decided to buy a dedicated machine, not something made to do a million and one different kitchen jobs. There's something to be said about heft, and this LEM grinder has weight to it...which is a good thing. It is powerful and grinds up meat the way I want a meat grinder to work...fuss-free and no-nonsense. In comparison, the KA grinder attachment would whine shrilly and grinding meat was slow and laborious. All in all, I think that this grinder was a worthwhile purchase and it's looking like I'll be quite happy with it. Time to make some kielbasa!

This works fine so far and seems to be a quality unit. Be sure to read the short instruction sheet as you have to coarse grind first before you can fine grind. If you skip that step you will be sorry. Also you will need to buy a plate larger than 3/8. You cannot drop the meat in one step unless you use a coarse grind plate first which I do now BTW. I suggest that you buy a larger plate as 3/8 will not give you a real coarse grind.

Update: the coarse grind was great and equal to fine grind at the supermarket. Also bigger is better and would buy the .75 or 1 if I had to do it over again. The throat is bigger in the bigger models which means less cutting. Go large folks.

No where does it say made in USA only a made in China on the box.

Just bought one of these bad boys direct from LEM (sorry Amazon). This is an absolutely amazing grinder. I bought three 5 lb pork shoulders, sliced 'em into 2" wide and thick strips and chilled 'em for 30 minutes in the freezer. This grinder gobbled 'em up as fast as I could throw 'em down its throat. My first time to try making sausages in the last 35 years and it was really a learning experience. Now I've got 15 pounds of UGLY sausages. Should taste pretty good though. Also bought an MTN 7 lb stuffer if you want to see my review of that. Anyway the "Big Bite" auger works extremely well just as advertised. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

I recommend this grinder. I purchased this grinder to make my own cat food. Its perfect for grinding small chicken bones which is what I wanted it for. I wouldn't recommend it for larger bones. I love it. It is very heavy but that's not a problem.

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread Knife

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread KnifePlease note that I have several Henckel knives that I really like, so this is definitely not a anti-Henckel biased review.

There is really only one problem with this knife the blade is way too thick. If there's only one problem then why do I give it only one star? Well, this one problem completely ruins this knife. The 'eversharp' name I'm sure refers to the fact that the serrations are not the standard "wave pattern" you'd see on most bread knives. Instead, each serration has several smaller serrations and spikes built in. I know that this is supposed to ensure that the knife will never end up dull but in the process it makes it horrible at doing any kind of delicate cutting. Plus, the blade is not flexible in any way due to the extreme thickness. Unless you are cutting the sturdiest bread out there, you'll crush it while trying to slice with this blade. Forget about cutting any kind of soft bread or pastry. I've found that some of our cheap steak knives work far better than this knife.

I've come to the conclusion that this knife is horrible after comparing it to two other bread knives I now own. The first was a Paderno (small Canadian company) that we got for our wedding, and the second was a Global bought from Amazon. Both are considerably more expensive than this knife, but there are other, more economical options out there that are still far better. You want to find a nice, thin blade with even and sharp serrations. If you're looking to stay in this price range, you won't find anything forged these will all be stamped or laser cut but that's fine the bread knife doesn't need to be strong like your chef's knife.

Pros:

-Cheap

Cons:

-Mashes your bread while it cuts

-Hard to get started through crusts due to blade thickness

-The 'spiky' serrations are dangerous to your fingers (think many tiny needles along the blade) they tend to nick you easily but they are useless for their intended purpose of cutting bread.

Suggestion: Steer clear. If you can afford it, get a Global (or even a better Henckel). Otherwise, look for a the thin stamped blade.

This bread knife gets the job done in record time with very little hand/wrist effort. Very little pressure on the knife was needed in order to slice through a loaf of very crusty bread from the bakery. In fact, my hand and wrist felt great after slicing the entire loaf into small pieces for appetizers, and the knife created very few crumbs.

Buy J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread Knife Now

This is definitely the sturdiest, sharpest bread knife I've ever owned. The blade is completely rigid, no bending ever. The blade is super sharp, easily cutting through bread or whatever else I put it up against. Makes me wonder how I went so long with my old bread knife.

I got tired of cutting my Italian bread loaves with our steak knives and having crumbs all over the cutting board. So I got this bread knife as a gift from my husband. We couldn't wait to use it.

Well we were so disappointed. The blade is very thick and the edges of the knife don't cut easily. We use it on Italian loaves as I mentioned, and you have to push down even harder than we used to with the bread knives, thereby smashing the loaf. And the cutting edge leaves tons of crumbs which means it's not cutting smoothly through the crust.

I would prefer a finer serated edge to cut easier through the Italian bread.

Zhen Japanese VG-10 Light Slicer Chopping Chef Butcher Knife 6.5"

Zhen Japanese VG-10 Light Slicer Chopping Chef Butcher Knife 6.5'The Zhen light "cleaver" isn't a cleaver at all. It's a Chinese vegetable knife the Asian version of the chef's knife that coincidentally has the same profile as a western style cleaver. Unlike a cleaver the blade is thin and the grinding is a much more narrow angle. This means that the blade is too delicate to operate as a cleaver, but is excellent for fine dicing and thin slicing when used as a chef's knife. Like a chef's knife the blade is slightly curved and is used with a rocking motion. Chinese vegetable knives have the edge over chef's knives because their higher mass and blade height give them more inertia and cutting power. Their high blade height makes them a bit awkward for newbies however. You must hold the food carefully on one side of the blade and feed it into the blade. That's where the Zhen light cleaver comes in. With it's lower blade height it feels more agile and has less of a learning curve for western cooks learning to use this excellent type of blade. Held choked up on the handle the balance is perfect. The factory grind on the edge is excellent. The edge is razor sharp and has held for dozens of uses so far.

Zhen is a Taiwanese knife company that specializes in knives reminiscent of the Japanese line called Shun. They have two main lines: a carbon stainless steel series and a fancier prettier damascus steel series (not the item on offer here). The carbon stainless series uses 3 layer construction, with a core of high carbon "VG-10" stainless steel in the middle (to constitute the edge) with layers of high carbon stainless on either side. The use of VG-10 steel and the 3 layer construction is a definite homage to Japanese high end knife manufacturing. The principle benefit of VG-10 steel is that its high Rockwell hardness value which means it will hold an edge better than normal stainless steel. The downsides are that it is more easy to chip, and will be less stain resistant. The handle is made of a rubber type material which is comfortable to grip. The edge of the blade is heavily frosted on the grinding bevel above the edge. I don't know if this is meant to hide the fusion line of the two types of metal or improve the release properties of food on the broad surface of the blade but it is attractive and does help vegetables release. The blade is surprisingly thin and light for such a broad profile. The thin-ness translates to agile slicing. I doubt it has the strength to chop bones or other very tough food items (such as the stems of winter squash, for example). Indeed the instruction sheet for this knife specifically warns against using it for bones underscoring the fact that is is a Chinese vegetable knife and not a cleaver.

All in all, the construction is amazing for the price. I will follow up on how well it holds up over time. I will say for the moment that initial quality is surprisingly high for such a reasonably priced item. At this price level you usually get rustable carbon steel with a rat tail tang and a cheap wooden handle with rings of loose metal as the bolsters. Here you get an exotic fused blade of the type used in the manufacture of Samurai swords, using an exotic type of steel I've never seen outside of Japan before. The blade shape is clearly forged, not stamped, with impressive grinding and finishing. The full tang and nice heel piece are also unusual at this price. Performance in use has been in line with the luxury appearance: excellent. So far I'd rate this item as an extreme bargain when used as a chef's knife not a cleaver. It's a taste of high end Japanese materials and construction, but made in Taiwan, with a price to match.

My wife is very happy with me for buying her this knife. It is sharp and beautiful. I do like using it, and I think the way it was built to last.

I love to cook and like anyone who spends a decent amount of time in the kitchen experimenting and trying to turn our culinary delights to impress family and friends, you come to rely upon your tools. And a good knives are one of the key items. I have a few good ones that I have invested in. I wasn't so sure about a 'cleaver style' knife and if it would work for me, so I liked the price point of this, it seemed enough to get a decent knife without paying a kings randsom for something I wasn't sure I was going to like.

I'm so glad I did, this is a fantastic knife. It's really light and easy to use, but the edge is razor sharp on arrival. I've had it 3 months and have used it nearly every day since then, and it hasn't needed sharpening, its still as sharp, so I'm very impressed. If you do a lot of vegetables and want to get through them fast, this is a great slicer and dicer that you won't regret and shoots way beyond the price point, its more comfortable to use and keeps an edge better than knives that I have that are 3 or 4 times the price. I recommend it to anyone.

Ricci Raffaello Stainless 5 Pc. Place Setting

Ricci Raffaello Stainless 5 Pc. Place SettingI bought one place setting each of the Amalfi, Raffaello, Primavera and Spirale flatware by Ricci. They're all gorgeous. I can't decide which I want a full service of -but it's a toss-up between the Raffaello and Amalfi. Really, really nice and not the same old ho-hum stuff you find everywhere else.

Norpro All-Purpose Knife

Norpro All Purpose Knife, WhiteI had bought one of these at a local store a few years ago to use for camping. But, I took it to a group pie bee and the lid didn't come back with it and the local store stopped selling them. I appreciated finding the same knife here. I love having a knife with a lid for food prep during camping so that I don't cut something else by mistake when all my utensils are in a bag together. It's also been my go-to knife when I need something sharp for tomatoes or stemming strawberries. My older knife has gotten duller by comparison to the new one and I'm not sure if it can be sharpened.

Garlic Press Hand operated.

Garlic Press Hand operated. The material feels very light weight and cheap. The little bolts feel like they will not last very long. I have washed the garlic press in the dish washer and was very surprised that the silver colored press came out grey-blue. All overall I think it is very cheap material and does not show much quality. I certainly do not think its worth its money.

Boker Australian Steak Knife

Boker Australian Steak KnifeI wanted to replace an aging set of steak knives with worn handles with something better. I've never been partial to serrated-edge blades for cutting (actually, sawing and tearing) good steaks or meat, and I wanted steak knives with no-maintenance handles and good-quality steel that could be sharpened to a fine cutting edge.

The Boker Australian Steak Knife met all my needs. I found the knife usably sharp right out of the box, though I touched mine up on a diamond hone. The Australian-style blade with the wide belly looks a little different to USA users, but you quickly appreciate its effectiveness. The blade length of 5" is just right. These knives work well on a variety of meats not just thick steaks.

Boker has these made of 440 steel at the Arbolito plant in Argentina. My set was well-finished, a full tang, close-fitting riveted handles, and no rough spots. The handles will never dry out or require special care. Try these and impress your guests.

I love this knife and it's wicked sharp, the price was very good. I would buy another if I find it at the same low price but it's not available anymore at the online outlet where I first purchased it and is priced much higher elsewhere.

Dr. Oetker 2468 Pizza Stone with Chopping Knife

Dr. Oetker 2468 Pizza Stone with Chopping KnifeI was really excited to get this set from Amazon. I mostly bake frozen pizzas (diGiorno) and was anticipating being able to get a nice crispy crust using the stone.

Turns out I was better off with the perforated baking dish I've been using for many years (Cuisinart AMB-14PP Chef's Classic Nonstick Bakeware 14-Inch Pizza Pan), which does a nice job.

Here's why I prefer the metal pan:

1. The stone must be preheated for 30 minutes. The metal pan allows me to assemble my pizza on the counter while the oven heats.

2. The stone is heavy and difficult to get in and out of the oven. The metal pan is easy to grab one-handed with an oven mitt.

3. Without a pizza shovel, it's hard to get the pizza off the stone. I can give the metal pan a quick shake and it's off.

4. I don't worry about breaking the metal pan.

So, the stone looks really nice, and the metal lifting frame is also nice, but the stone slides out of it rather easily making for a pretty unstable setup when trying to manhandle a 400 degree heated stone without burning myself.

I'm sticking with the pan, but as I said the pizza knife is really useful. I've also found that it make quick work out of chopping nuts... ;-)

Good product at a good price. It contains all the pieces necessary for baking and cutting a piazza. Would recomend to anyone.

Farberware Classic 3-Inch ParerIf you are looking for an easy to use, affordable, everyday paring knife, this is the knife for you. I had one just like it and lost it on a camping trip, so this replacement made me VERY happy

I bought two of these, based on the fact that I have one from 2001 that I really like. I knew my old one was wasn't any special quality I'd bought it at a drugstore, and somehow it's held up fine with heavy use. But I was still disappointed with the new ones. The 12-year-old one still seems to cut better. I'm hoping that the new ones will wear in or something, but I don't know, really.

Glad to see the classic is still available. No longer able to find in stores. This has a nice grip and wide blade for good control. I used mine all the time until I tried to split a squash with it and snapped the blade off....not smart. Before I found this replacement online, I settled for the colorful thinner ones being sold in stores now but could not use them. They were so flimsy they almost felt like those cheap pumpkin decorating cutters you get for Halloween. This is the best which is why it is called the "classic".

It looks like my current parer, but doesn't cut properly at all. I tried cutting an apple, but the blade won't cut straight. It cuts at an angle and no matter what I try, won't cut straight down. This may be a new knife, but isn't at all what I wanted.

How can I get a different knife in place of this one.

Chicago Cutlery Essentials 4-3/4-Inch Utility Knife

Chicago Cutlery Essentials 4-3/4-Inch Utility KnifeFor the price its a good deal since this and the 3 1/2" paring knife together are under $12 on here and sure do come in handy for smaller kitchen prep work. They sharpen easily and have a good handle. The blade is thin enough to make fine slicing easy but also sturdy enough for tough skinned lemons and limes. I leave one on the bar with a mini cutting board for cocktail prep and its held up well for several years now.

Normally this knife is good. I own one which i got from Walmart and it is super sharp. So wanted to get one more and guess what, I choose to get it from amazon. (Big Mistake). The knife that arrived is like a peice of log does not cut anything. So it would be better to get from Walmart than from Amazon.

I wanted a knife with a non-porous handle for occasional use cutting up melons in season. I don't have use for a knife of this size for other reasons so I did not want to spend a lot of money. I do not think this knife will stand up to a tough watermelon.

The knife blade is too thin for the length. The knife is not sharp. It won't slice a carrot. It splits it instead. The handle is too small for the length of the blade. I don't feel comfortable (safe) using it. I have another Chicago Cutlery knife that I like a lot and that has served me for many years. It is still sharper than the new knife.

Martha Stewart Collection Triple Riveted 2 Knife & Cutting Board Set

Martha Stewart Collection Triple Riveted 2 Knife & Cutting Board SetActually I would keep the board hanging on the wall for meditation, and use a plastic cutting board for the work, which can be more sanitary and washable.

The bamboo board is so beautiful, but can separate with improper washing and drying, so hang it on the wall with some dried herbs, to watch while you cut.

Oh, wait.

Better watch what you cut.

This knife is really the only knife you need. I have one at home wrapped ever in a towel, and lamented the big box source I would buy them from has sold out all of her excellent, durable, well-designed and elegant products.

I am greatly relieved and very grateful to discover that amazon does carry this product. I thought I would never feel right using my MS Santuko, that I would be stealing from my inheritors should I somehow eventually damage it (an impossibility barring earthquake) but as Mr. Marley warned, you go to the well each day with the bucket, one day the bottom falls out.

Now I learn that amazon has one. It is a good thing.

Vegetarian (no meat and no animal by-products) I find this very useful for thin slicing onions and eggplant, fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs like cilantro from the garden, and anything else. The side of its wide blade is especially nice for pressing peeled garlic cloves, after the careful peeling.

All in all the best knife you can get, the only one you'll really need for the long journey ahead.

Knowing now that amazon has one on tap, I can save my full tang wooden handled MS steak knives for later, and unroll the towel from my own MS Santuko, and get back to work in peace.

If only I could find here the full gamut of MS products, in particular the MS 12 quart pot I use to heat wash and bathing water, with its excellent last-for-ever clad bottom which I believe I dinged one morning by heating bath water with no water in it. You take the bucket to the well each day, one day the bottom falls out. It still works wonderfully, but brings me anxiety, and I have no back up

I mean that big box corporation that bought the other big box corporation and threw out MS products, it does lifetime and even forever guaranteed tools. Why not sell the unbreakable Martha, too?

thanks amazon for having at least this one tiny bit of civilization.

and a beautiful bamboo board for my wall!

Me and my wife are huge fans of Martha Stewart santoku knifes so this set with a bamboo board is a no brainer.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 11-Piece Knife Set with Block

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 11-Piece Knife Set with BlockThese knives are amazing--everything I hoped for. All the knives you need, nice weight, VERY sharp, sleek looking.

My only complaint has to do with the knife block, which is not customized for the knife set. The knives all fit in the knife-block slots, but they fit loosely and sit at odd angles. Also, the knife block only has 6 slots for steak knives. This was a problem when I bought the matching steak knives, because they are sold in sets of 4, so you either have 2 too few or 2 too many for the number of slots. A small thing with such a good set of knives, but I will be buying another Henckels knife block.

I've been meaning to update my kitchen knives for many years. Finally, thanks to those nice people at Ideara, I had enough gift vouchers to buy this set. I've only had them for a few weeks but love them. First, they are sharp I know volunteer to do the vegetables and other prep in the kitchen. They also feel good, with a great balance which makes them all the more useful. I am hoping that these will be the last knives I ever buy! I recommend them highly.

from amazon's own descriptions stated "Also includes kitchen shears, 9-inch sharpening steel, and hardwood block with slots for steak knives"

as soon as I opened the box, I noticed something wrong. the block is made of bamboo and in thin, loose plastic bag with a knot loosely tight. the bag has the "made in china" sticker. Amazon just lied to me to see this product. I don't even want to guess if these knives are actually made in Germany. the knives box was prepared in a sloppy manner. the lid of the box not even close proper. for $499 knives set, I think I have the right to expect better quality. I am suspecting the knives are made in china as well. this whole order is going back to Amazon.

I am speaking with Amazon customer service representative and this product is sold by a vendor (third party) not Amazon. it sold through a Amazon. This looks like something someone bought and used and didn't like. they re-packed and resold as new product through Amazon to trick buyers to think this is a new product. this ia biggest false advertising so buyers beware.

I ordered the Four Star II wanting to greatly improve my kitchen knives. The knives were nice however the block was poorly made. I compared the same block with a local retailer and their block was far superior. One slot in the block was at an angle that the knife would not fit. Given my disappointment, I purchased Wustof Classic Icon and found the manufacturing and overall quality to be superior. I am thankful for Amazon in their handling of the entire process.

One Touch Cordless KnifeDon't buy this knife unless you own a battery store. I cut four pieces of chicken and it used up the six AA batteries that I had just installed. I bought it yesterday, and I am returning it today. I had to give it one star because you can't rate something with zero stars.

This really does goes through the batteries. It was fine for bread but needed new batteries all the time. It was worthless to slice turkey breast or ham. I finally tossed it into the garbage.

She has recently began to have problems with cutting meat, and was about to resort to plugging our electric knife in at the dining table to cut her steaks. This knife is small, but it has a pretty powerful motor! The only reason I would give it four stars instead of five is that (even before you put in the 6 AA batteries it requires) it is a pretty heavy knife to hold. Sharp and works as described, very sturdy!
