Paderno World Cuisine Grapefruit Knife, Stainless steel blade and handle, 9 1/2'I bought two at the same time and they both work well. But this is the one i always pick up because i can just throw it in the dishwashe

Very sharp and fits typical grapefruit very well. The vertical lenght of the straight blade is just right for sectioning the grapefruit.

I have wasted so much grapefruit in years past because a regular spoon could not remove all of the fruit. These spoons are awesome! It's so much easier to eat grapefruit.

Wusthof 6 Slot Steak Knife Storage Block

Wusthof 6 Slot Steak Knife Storage BlockLike another reviewer I ordered this knife block expecting it to look like what was pictured. However that is not the case. Instead it is a totally different product that does not even resemble the knife block pictured.

I also purchased this knife block and received a COMPLETELY different item than the one displayed here. It is a flat, rectangular shape with no staggering and only one knife size. It is OAK colored, as opposed to brown. It does not have a stand. I talked to customer service and then sent me what was suppose to be the "right" item for free... Instead, it is ANOTHER of the same wrong item!! The seller needs to change to picture or remove the listing.

The picture and description didn't match up. This is the first time I've had a problem with a product I bought on Amazon. Luckily the product was from a substantial company and they were friendly and easy-going about the return. I can't find the product I want anywhere and the manufacturer doesn't sell directly so I am dissapointed. I will still use Amazon in the future but this wasn't my most pleasant experience.

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 SharpenerI've read the existing reviews and here is something that must be added so that those [like me] who have brought this item will not be disappointed. The Gerber finger sharpener is made to sharpen blades with a 30 degree angle this includes axes, pocket knives or any other blades of 30 degrees. "IF" the kitchen knives you have happen to be a 20 degree edge, it will not work, was not made to work and never will.

For kitchen knives with a 20 degree angle, you have the choice of the Ozitech knife sharpener finger style which you can find online or YouTube to see demo, unfortunately there is no demo for Gerber's system. A sad mistake on their part. if you go to YouTube and watch the demo at the end is there web address so you can buy the type you need, just make sure first that you know absolutely what angle degree you need first before ordering either.

hope this helps.

I tried this over and over and if anything it dulled my knife along with scratching it near the tip. I absolutely recommend ANYTHING besides this...very disappointed in Gerber...great knives absolute poor sharpener...

Buy Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener Now

I've bought several kitchen knife sharpeners over the past twenty years and foolishly used them in place of my diamond steel which took so long to sharpen my knives. After ruining the edge and taper on most of my knives I bought this one because of online recommendations for it. It restored most of my knives to a factory edge after only a few minutes sharpening. I'm confident that it will restore all of them with a little patience. My slicing knife will now cut tomatoes with one downward stroke without sawing them so that's a definite plus. The most impressive thing is that the knives stay sharper longer than before and it's simple to use. For the price it's well worth it.

very compact and works! i bought this along with 2 machetes and a gerber knife. it works great on all knives.

Want Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener Discount?

This is not worth the price. The DF8 is no better than the cheaper knife sharpeners. The DF8 does not work at all on steel knife blades. I used it on my gerber and it would not put a edge that would work for field dressing animals

Wusthof Classic 6-Inch Sandwich Knife

Wusthof Classic 6-Inch Sandwich KnifeI just added this knife to my Wusthof collection. I arrived extremely sharp, and is nice for semi-fine work. Activities like dicing shallots, which are too small for a large 8 inch knife and to big for a paring knife, are nice with this knife. Be careful though, the tip of the blade is quite thin, and will not stand up to abuse.

My old favorite for almost 30 years was the 6" chef's knife until this one moved in a year ago.

One reviewer opined that the 4" and 8" blades take care of either end of the spectrum, so who needs this knife? Me. Think of it as a broad spectrum knife! I use it and skip the 4" and 8" knives. Even though the other knives are available, this is the one I go for most of the time. I also prefer it to our beautiful Santoku knife.

Another reviewer thought it too expensive. Well, not when it's my favorite knife! It's a comfortable and capable tool, with an edge that won't quit. The shape, length and weight of this slightly slimmer blade as well as the overall balance in my hand are perfect for me.

Buy Wusthof Classic 6-Inch Sandwich Knife Now

There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.

This particular model is the 6 inch sandwich knife. I don't find this knife to be particularly useful in everyday usage. The 8 inch chef's knife, or 4 ½ inch utility knife work just fine for jobs on either end of the spectrum. Do you really need this expensive of a knife to cut baloney? I don't.

Don't get me wrong; this is a good high quality knife. However, for the mainstream chef, I think its usage will be minimal, and thus it is overkill.

My most used knife in the kitchen in my Wusthof 4" paring knife. The next most used knife is my Wusthof 6 3/8" Sandwich knife. This knife stays incredably sharp. It's blade is thinner than most other knives in its size, including the Henkle. The blade taper starts almost from the very edge. These two factors helps it slice through what you are cutting easier that thicker knives. I have found the blade thickness to be a very big factor when cutting. I have Henkle knives also, but they do not hold their edge anywhere as long as my Wuthof knives. My teenage kids refer to this Wusthof knife as the "death knife" because it is always so sharp, and scarry to them. I use it for cutting bread (works better than a serrated knife), vegtables, mellons, and carving meats. The only use I have for my 8" knife is lettuce and carving turkeys. I get much more use out of this 6" knife. I never use my knives as a screew driver or to pry anything, so the thinness is not a problem. Wusthof knives last a life time and are worth every cent you pay for them.

Want Wusthof Classic 6-Inch Sandwich Knife Discount?

I bought this knife for my dad a few weeks ago (for fathers' day). He uses it almost exclusively in place of his older knives now! The 6-inch design is a perfect length for almost any job, too.

When I was researching, a good number of people said that it was not multi-functional enough to be worth the price. I found that the knife definitely has some things it does better than others, but it still does a fine job cutting vegetables; the taller blade does optimize it for sandwiches and such, but does great with many utility knife jobs.

Bob Kramer 7 inch Carbon Steel Santoku by Zwilling JA Henckels

Bob Kramer 7 inch Carbon Steel Santoku by Zwilling JA HenckelsI had been knife shopping for a long time before I finally settled on Zwilling's Kramer santoku. I knew I wanted a santoku and I knew I wanted something I could count on lasting a lifetime. I don't tend to agonize much over any of my purchases but I found myself struggling to find the knife I wanted. The market seems lately flooded with a multitude of high quality knives featuring a bewildering variety of blade and handle designs not to mention different steel types! I was eventually drawn to this particular knife because the European style chef knives from the same line seem to earn such high praise. Oddly, Iv'e had little luck in finding many impressions of this particular model on the internet. I gambled that Zwilling had put as much care into the crafting of the santoku as apparently went into their other Kramer designed knives. I have not been disappointed.

This knife feels wonderful in my hand. It is well balanced and comfortable in any of the grips I normally use. The edge curvature suits up and down veggie slicing quite well and contrary to what some have found, I really like the way the blade rocks from tip to heel when I mince herbs. Of course, it is intimidatingly sharp right out of the box. I've only been using it for a few days now so the blade has lost none of that initial edge but I look forward to seeing how long it lasts. Straight carbon is well known for its ability to hold a sharp edge for a long time and to resharpen quite easily. I'd like to point out one aspect of the blade that is not at all obvious in any of the pictures or descriptions of it that I've found. The thickness of the blade tapers very evenly along its entire length to become very, very thin for the last inch or so. This is great for performing delicate work and is a testament to the attention to detail which went into this knife's construction.

I hope to update this review in the future and report how well this tool holds up to longer term wear and tear. I might even upload a few pics to illustrate how the patina develops.

There are 2 versions of the Bob Kramer 7 inch Santoku knife

1. Bob Kramer 7 inch Carbon Steel Santoku by Zwilling JA Henckels made in Germany: This a great knife but be aware that it has a Carbon Steel Blade and requires maintenance to create a patina and prevent rust. The blade keeps a very sharp edge longer.

2. Bob Kramer 7 inch Santoku knife by Shun made in Japan: This the knife I chose. I tried both at Sur La Table which is where I bought it. This Shun Bob Kramer knife is meticulously crafted by 150 expert artisans to achieve the precise heft, balance and shape of Bob Kramer's original design. The 3mm steel blade is composed of an SG2 core (64-66HRC) clad with true pattern-welded nickel and Damascus stainless steel for a beautiful, razor-sharp and lasting edge. The Handle is the same on both versions and is Gently rounded and richly grained red and black Pakkawood handle is crafted in Bob's signature contoured shape, and mirrors the curve of the palm for a wonderfully natural hand-feel. It was a financial stretch as I'm Irish and Swedish. This knife and the one above are worth there weight in gold. The Shun cost $40 more then the carbon steel but was well worth the cost to me. The Blade is a work of art and there is no patina maintenance required.

Brockenb, the fault is indeed yours. You DID misuse the knife. This kind of knife cannot be used for cutting bone and doing so will break the blade, which is what happened to you. Also, a carbon steel knife will acquire a patina, and requires proper care.

It sounds to me like you had no idea what you were buying, or how to use it properly. In the future, I suggest Target -they have some very nice knives for $25 or so that should be perfect for you.

I received my Kramer by Zwilling knife as a gift. It looked and worked great at first, but then it began to rust. I've never seen a knife rust before, but it looked awful. Then, while cutting through some meat, the edge of the knife caught on a piece of bone and a big chunk came out of the blade, totally destroying the knife. I contacted Kramer and received an email from Bob Kramer himself essentially blaming me for improper knife use. I'm very disappointed and will never buy a knife with the Kramer name on it.

I got this a few months ago, i never used it because i hated the way it felt in your hand. I didnt cut one thing with it, and I put it back in the box and returned it. 2 weeks later i get a partial refund ($150/$329), stating that i stained the steel with my fingerprint (if thats even possible.) So i had to open a claim with amazon which i won to get the rest of my money. Very bad experience and wont order from them again. I think this knife is very over rated and the paring knife i have of this brand has rusted and looks horrible and ive never dishwashed it and always cleaned it right after use. I since then got a Wusthof Chef Knife and i couldnt be happier.

Im not really a kitchen knife expert or anything, but I do own a set of 4 star I. Everything I have ever read says 4 star is by far Henckels best line...its their flagship (better then the pro s, better then the 5 star). Anyway my 4star I santoku fell onto my tile and the tip broke off a few months ago. I decided to replace it with the 4star II model. I just got it. It feels pretty good and is way sharper out of the box then the 4 star I. The extra steel on the handle is obviously taken from the spine of the blade. Looking at the 4star I and 4 star II side by side from the top down, the 4 star I has a much broader spine making the knife feel more sturdy.

Towle Arctic 5-Piece Flatware Place Setting

Towle Arctic 5-Piece Flatware Place SettingI already had 4 place settings of this attractive flatware and was pleased to find more on Amazon.com. The price was very good. I already knew the quality would be very good, too.

I almost always find 18/10 stainless steel flatware to be too heavy or too large (who wants a fork with prongs that long in their mouth?)...and when it's not, I don't like the design. Too many frills, or just too provocative/bold looking.

I realized I've always had a few forks I loved, that were just around since college. They didn't match any sets I'd gotten since then, but I kept them because they were so comfortable in weight and handling. I liked how they looked, too, except that they were scratched up a bit. I just always assumed they were part of a brand-less, randomly well made but long lost line of flatware.

Well after researching various new flatware sets and not liking anything, I flipped over the forks I had....and discovered they were Towle! 18/8 specifically. I immediately went to the company's website to see if they still made this line, leading me to the Arctic line.

Now a quick note --on that website, the product is listed as 18/8. When receiving the flatware from Amazon, they matched the appearance perfectly, they happened to be 18/10....but I'd already picked them up before seeing this, and the weight felt identical with my 18/8 forks -perhaps the tiniest bit heavier, but as someone already sensitive to "too-heavy" flatware, I definitely felt comfortable with this weight.

HIghly recommend this line! It may not be flashy, but it's definitely timeless and comfortable...and great quality! (my three eight year old forks have never rusted...and that's saying something, given that four of those years were spent in college. I just realized they must be more than eight years old, since I got them through random roommate encounters, not buying them as part of a set in a store).

Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafe

Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafeThis is a good safety cover for those who store their knives in a drawer rather than a block.

There are some other brands of blade covers or blade safes that are less safe -that loosely cover one long side of the blade; it seems their purpose is to protect the blade from getting dulled or nicked when stored in a drawer, next to other things. This cover does provide that type of protection, but in addition it covers all 4 sides making it safer for fingers rummaging about.

Before ordering this, I was worried about the sizing, because another reviewer had mentioned an issue with the size. However, the cover I received seems fine. This cover is sold by multiple sellers here. I bought mine from Amazon, rather than from one of the Amazon Marketplace resellers. I don't know whether that makes a difference.

The label on this says "Knife Safe" (TM) by "Lamson Sharp", and says that it holds 4-6" knives, which seems accurate. The 4-6" refers to the blade length, not including the handle.

Measurements: The interior is a max of 6 1/8 inches at the longest point, but the sides are tapered towards the point end -the last 1.5 inches are tapered, angled narrower, almost to a point.

Now, about the height capacity: When I say height, I am picturing a knife in use, perpendicular to a cutting board, and height would be the measurement in between the cutting board and the top edge of the knife blade. A blade height of 1.25 inches fits inside this cover, except that the cover is tapered towards the point end. A 6-inch knife blade that is not pointed at the tip might not fit. Some Santoku-style knives are too tall for this. And definitely would not fit one of those tall Asian-style cleavers.

For comparison purposes, this is for a knife that is a bit larger all around compared to a typical steak knife. It is OK with a steak knife, but there is space leftover. It is too large for a paring knife; it would not be held securely.

There are little rubber pads, on the insides of the cover, to hold the knife securely. The little rubber pads seem likely to fall out; perhaps it is the dry climate here. However, it easy to put the rubber pads back in place, as long as they don't get lost. I am thinking of adding glue.

This seems to be made of polypropylene mainly.

I would recommend this to most people, except for those with significant arthritis in their hands. Unfastening the clasps requires some strength, when opening this knife case.

These brand of knife covers is my favorite. Once the cover is on, it is safely put in a drawer with other utensils without the worry of being cut. The snap lock is a little tricky to open at first but once you figure it out, its not a problem at all. We currently own 4 different sizes of these.Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafe

I purchased this knife to house my 6" Santoku. Product dimensions are stated to be 4x1x6. I could only assume that 6" was for the length of the blade, making 4" the natural choice for how deep a blade it could store. The deepest blade you could possibly fit in this is 1.5". Yes, I measured.

I will be returning post-haste.

Pedrini Wine & Bar Pocket Waiter's Corkscrew Soft Grip

Pedrini Wine & Bar Pocket Waiter's Corkscrew Soft GripI know there are several ways to open a bottle of wine, but the waiter's corkscrew will always be the best and most reliable method. This corkscrew is the best one I have ever found. Excellent quality, very user friendly, and really well priced!

My spouse and I drink a bottle of wine with dinner most every night, and have gone through several corkscrews. I never realized there was much of a difference between them until on vacation a couple of years ago we had a bottle but no opener, and bought this one out of necessity. We have used it exclusively ever since. It is without a doubt the sturdiest, most reliable opener out there. Works like a charm every time. After opening probably the 200th bottle or so with it tonight without flaw, I felt compelled to come on to Amazon just to give it a review. A must have for any wine lover!

Buy Pedrini Wine & Bar Pocket Waiter's Corkscrew Soft Grip Now

Even as better ways of closing a wine bottle rise to

the top of the bottle, a wine-lover still needs to

pull an occasional cork.

This rubber cushioned, widely used corkscrew is the

easiest, most convenient way to do it. Its grip is

comfortable, the screw penetrates cork easily and

the all-important two-step lever allows almost

anyone to muscle the cork out of the neck. It also

slips easily into a pocket and is cheap and light.

One evidence of this device's popularity is that it

is frequently chosen to be imprinted with a winery

name and given away as a premium in the wine trade.

While my wife and I use a Screwpull pocket model (Screwpull Pocket Model Corkscrew, Black) most of the time, there are bottles that are easier to open with a lever-type corkscrew, so we keep one of these handy. The Pedrini is nicely designed. The lever is the right length, holds the lip of the bottle, and it's well-made. In fact, we like Pedrini's bar ware generally. We even use their shot glasses for our espresso machine.

ViCera JVC-160WBK 6-Inch/16 Centimeter Ceramic Chef's Knife, Black/White

ViCera JVC-160WBK 6-Inch/16 Centimeter Ceramic Chef's Knife, Black/WhiteNormally I would not spend this much on a knife. However, I spend a lot of time cutting things up for the juicer and blender and struggled with a blade that was constantly getting dull. This knife is a joy to use. For basic cutting it's very easy and fast to wield. It can do things like take off the top layer of an orange rind quite well. It's also extremely efficient at making deep slices into your fingertips! If you're used to using mostly dull kitchen knives to avoid exactly that, remember to use this blade with your full attention! However, I'd say it's well worth exercising the caution. I look forward to preparing fruits and vegetables now. It also works nicely slicing up raw fish.

How the knife compares to other ceramic knives I'm not sure. I had been using a chef knife and already knew that was the size/style I wanted. John Koehler of growingyourgreens on YouTube recommended this particular brand, which was good enough for me.

This set is very convenient and doesn't take up too much counterspace. The paring knife, which I use a lot, didn't arrive as sharp as I would like for cutting vegi's/fruits. I haven't tried sharpening these non-serated blades yet. Having the scissors in the block is so much handier than opening drawers and fumbling for them.

I'm very pleased with this set. The knives are sharper than I expected (although I still sharpened them a bit first with my whetstone). I like that they come with scissors and a steel.

The only drawback is the steak knives. The serrated edges are VERY pointy. This makes for cutting with them difficult as they tend to rip instead of slice. One of them turned my pork chop into shredded pork quite quickly. Otherwise, I'm a happy customer...

Wusthof Grand Prix II 10-Piece Knife Set with Storage BlockWe purchased these knives to replace some Chicago Cutlery knives that served us well for over 25 years. It was actually our second purchase as we bought them for our second house and due to their great feel, balance and maintenance for sharpness, we decided we needed them in both locations. The set is great and the knife selection is well thought out. Unless you have very specific cooking needs, the set should be able to provide capability and diversity to all cooking needs The knives are first rate, balance and construction. We do not put them into the dishwasher and is it is not recommended due to the harsh heat and chemical action to the handles. I think the block could be finished more. It is adequate, functional and does have room for extras. It just is not up to the quality of the knives. Summary -if you need a set of knives to last a lifetime, these are it.

I was used to using the cheapy knife sets you can get from any store (i.e., target, walmart, sometimes walgreens) and was content with those UNTIL I received this set and starting using them. I didn't even know knives existed that could cut through produce so well! As a vegan, I do A LOT of chopping and slicing and these have the job so much easier, almost effortless. My granddaughter just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago, and these are too small for her to actually eat with. That said, the flatware is cute and well made, and I ordered another set so she could have a place setting for her and one for her doll when she has a pretend tea party. But for actually eating, okay for babies (hold the knife); but too small for toddlers much beyond two-and-a-half years old.

Made in China. Some of their utensils aren't, but these are. They are okay though, I mean, they'll only get used a few months and then lost anyway, right? And they are better than the fully-plastic ones that your child ingests in tiny amounts as they scrape their teeth along them with each bite and as the plastic leaches into the warm mashed potatoes in which they are sitting.

I think these are cute, but way too small for toddlers, the handle size is great, but the spoon and fork

are so tiny, and the fork is a little sharp for young children IMO, these DO NOT COME IN A GIFTBOX, they

come wrapped in tissue with a card :(

Friedr. Dick Premier Nature Series Chef's Knife

Friedr. Dick Premier Nature Series 8-1/2-Inch Chef's KnifeI am a Chef so I know the value of a good knife. I use this knife everyday. Stays sharp and is very easy to handle. Great knife!!

This is my first "real" kitchen knife. I was using cheapo knife sets for years. When a friend of mine got a Shun knife I understood what I was missing. But I didn't like the feel of Shun. I tried out a Wusthoff and a Forschner and didn't like them either. I couldn't find anyone who carried F.Dick knives. So based on reviews of other F.Dick knives I sprung for this one. The feel is fantastic. Where the Shun was too light, the F.Dick is nice and weighty (but not in a heavy, tiring). Where I didn't like the Wusthoff handle, the F.Dick fits well in the hand. Where the Forschner felt cheap, this knife feels solid. I went for the Premier Nature over other F.Dick knives for it's wood handle. The wood feels better than any composite. The only thing I wish is that there were a 10" option.

If you bent your knife from the heat of food you must cook in a 5,000 degree blasting furnace, because that's what it would take.

I've been using Henckles for 30 years and they are the best knives I've ever used. I love them more than any home product I have ever purchased.

I didn't mind paying a high price for a product with a lifetime guaranty. But, when I sent my knife back for replacement, I was told that the bent tip on my knife was not a manufacturing defect. The tip on the knife bent, I think, just the heat from carving some piece of food. They refused to repair or replace. Wanted me to buy another. Got me once, shame on them. I'll buy America this time......
