As with any big German knife, expect it to be a little heavy. The only part I don't like is that when using a pinch grip, the top side of the bolster is a little sharp, but I plan to grind it down so it's a little more seamless where it melds into the spine of the blade.

I researched kitchen knives for a long time before deciding to buy a set of these Wusthof Ikon Blackwood knives. They sharpen well and hold their edge. They have a full tang and a nice heavy handle that superbly balances each particular knife. This set should last me the rest of my life.

You get what you pay for, cuts like a charm! There is no case with this knife, I suggest buying the blade protector. There was a little scratch on mine when I received it.

Works well. It's sharp, well balanced on the center for easy handling, beautiful, and cleans easy. The only problem is that the wood handle MUST be clean and dry when you put this knife away. Well, same goes for the blade too I guess, but you need to be more careful with the handle. If you want something that's less troublesome, you can buy the version with the black handle, same knife.

When I first tried this knife I was very skeptical how well it would work, I figured being plastic that it might be flimsy and that the cheese would stick to the knife or that it wouldn't cut thin enough pieces because the knife would be to bulky but I am happy to say "This wonderful knife has proven me wrong on all counts". Global Decor Stainless-Steel Chopsticks, 4 PairsThe biggest problem I've had with metal chopsticks is that they are too thin and hard to use. However, since these are made of hollowed stainless steel, they are of similar proportion to wooden chopsticks and are about as easy to use. My only complaint is that the grips are rounded, not squared, which I think is harder to use.

They are more slippery than wooden chopsticks though, and since they taper to separate points it is a bit hard to eat noodles. Secondly, they do heat up quickly if you're eating hot soup, so don't leave them in your soup (just rest it on top of the bowl). These are problems inherent in all metal chopsticks though, so they aren't really a con.

I really like these chopsticks a lot I have purchased many sets for myself, my extended family and to give my friends. Wooden chopsticks will develop cracks and fissures over time between the laquer and the wood and also within the wood that are hard if not impossible to really get clean, especially if you wash them in the dishwasher. I would think that ancient bits of food can get lodged within the crevices. These steel chopsticks feel like the a cross between japanese style chopsticks (tapered towards the tip) and chinese style (blocky on the top and rounded at the tip). They are hollow so are very lightweight. Nice and smooth, very comfortable in my hands. It would be nice if some texture were applied to the bottom couple of inches to add some friction so eating noodles was bit easier. With this change, these chopsticks would be a perfect 5 stars but are nearly perfect as they are!

I have never tried stainless steel chopsticks before and after using these, I will NEVER go back to bamboo or wooden chopsticks when I have a choice.

Kung-Po is probably my favorite Chinese dish and I always request that it's made extra spicy. Unfortunately, the extra heat sometimes makes my lips raw and burning. It doesn't matter how smooth bamboo might appear, my lips tell me other wise when I'm halfway through a very spicy entree.

I don't have that issue with these because they are incredibly smooth and comfortable. I never have to worry about splinters or the sand paper effect and most importantly, I don't have the extra worry of wondering if these are really clean as they are very EASY TO CLEAN and disinfect. SAFER THAN WOOD OR BAMBOO and no shellac flaking off in my mouth. It's true that you likely can't put these in a dish washer as they'll fall through the basket but I have found washing these to be VERY easy to hand wash. DRIED FOOD COMES OFF EASILY AND WET FOOD STICKS!

The upper portion is not round (which is what I'm used to) but also, they are not quite square either. The edges are nicely rounded off and just makes for a great feel in my hand. These are nicely balanced, very light and user friendly even for a chopstick-novice like myself. The finish is almost satin-like which is very smooth and comfortable but still can grasp and hold noodles and rice. I'm still not very experienced in my chop-stick eating skills and when I make a mess, I'm blaming the carpenter--not the tools.

I recently spent a few dollars on some bamboo chopsticks that I'm throwing away. For only $2.00 more, I now have 4 pairs of chopsticks that will last indefinitely. These chop-sticks come in a reusable plastic sleeve that keeps these in one place. When I take everything into account, these get a star for each whole dollar I spent...FIVE.

Well I'm not certain what to say about chopsticks! Since they're stainless steel, they will last for decades. They are dishwasher safe, which makes them more sanitary than bamboo. Over all, I'm very glad I bought these because they're safe and convenient.

That's what I'm telling my best friend when I give it to her. She gave me a short list of things she wanted/needed and a small paring knife was on the list. Since I didn't want to come off as an extreme cheapo I looked at several pricier knives but settled on this one because I already own the identical knife and love it for plenty of reasons beyond its reasonable price tag.

The size of this knife is wonderful for most kitchen tasks. I use it for chopping vegetables every day but it also does a formidable job when carving a pumpkin or peeling potatoes or trimming a zucchini. The handle is very comfortable which is a signature feature for the OXO brand. I can use this for a long time without any hand cramping or fatigue. The blade is super sharp and if you follow the manufacturer's suggestion to hand wash it will stay that way. Overall, this knife is nicely balanced and well made. I have been using this knife for quite awhile and I haven't had to sharpen it yet as it still has a solid and sharp cutting edge. I also own the 4" version of this knife, but this is my go to knife for most jobs.

Rada Cutlery Tomato Slicer Knife, Made in USA, Aluminum HandleI love this knife. For years, my most unfavorite part of making a sandwich or burger was slicing the tomatoes. I tended to cut the tomato unevenly, to make the slices way thicker than I wanted them, etc. This knife has completely changed the way I make a sandwich. It's so painless. Even the most unbelievable klutz (me) can slice a tomato well with this thing. As a bonus, it's made in the good ole' USA and it's amazingly cheap. At this price, even if the knife dulled out in a year or two, I would simply buy another one--it's a great bargain. The last knife I tried to slice a tomato with was a much pricier one from Chicago Cutlery, and it didn't do half as good a job as this thing.

It's been two years since I purchased this knife, and it's still the only way I can slice a tomato without frustration. Surprisingly enough for a knife at this price point, it has maintained its sharp edge.

These are truly very sharp, good working knives. I was so happy with the tomato knife that I bought a 2nd one, the steak knife set, and the carving knife. Love them all, except: Just be aware that (now that I've had them for several months) the handles are brushed aluminum which gives a good offsetting weight in the hand, however, the shiny silver color turns dingey gray. If you don't mind that-especially bec now they don't match the silver color of the blade, then they are a great buy. I would give 5 stars if they didn't discolor. NOTE: I NEVER ONCE PUT THEM IN THE DISHWASHER.

I started buying Rada cutlery at one of the big Home & Garden Shows because I was tired of cheap knives and of peelers that just didn't work. This tomato slicer is simply the best for the price you don't need to spend a fortune on the German brands this U.S. made knife is every bit as good at a fraction of the price. It does a superb job slicing delicate tomatoes and other fragile foods.

The knife stays extremely sharp I've nicked myself a number of times when I got too close to what I was cutting.

The only drawback, if you are into appearances, is that the handle will discolor if it is not dried after washing or if you allow it to sit in water. Also, these knives should not be put in the dishwasher if you care about appearance the handle will get darkened and somewhat pitted.

Okay, for those of you who critique reviewsyes, I know I'm using the same basic information for all the fabulous Rada products. If it really bothers you, please don't read any more Rada reviews I've written.

I was drawn to the 'automatic' extractors like the Screwpull and their Chinese knock-offs because they seemed quick and easy to use. And for a while they are, but with the new kinds of corks their teflon coating deteriorates and very soon they break.

Plus after the novelty wears off, you look like a nerd opening a bottle of wine.

I did have a number of 'manual' corkscrews that LOOK like the PullParrot, with a 2-stage kind of opening design. But in fact the 'first stage' doesn't really work right, and they essentially only have 'one stage'.

If you look closely at the design you will see the little gizmo halfway down from the 'beak' that is the first stage of the cork extraction. It's got a little spring that moves the gizmo in and out. This is what distinguishes the design from the look-a-likes, which have a single molded in 2-stage stop, that don't really work.

To use the corkscrew, start with a few turns into the cork. Then push out the little spring mounted gizmo, and pull the cork out a little bit. Then let the gizmo retract, re-seat the corkscrew with its main ledge on the top of the bottle and continue the extraction.

The next time you are in a restaurant, look closely and you will see that EVERY waiter in every restaurant uses a corkscrew with this design.

Once you start using this, you will NEVER go back to the big fancy corkscrews.

This was the first "complete" set we've purchased, and Wusthof's reputation did not disappoint. I'm in no way a knife expert, but I've found that the knives handle beautifully. They are comfortable to hold both for me and for my husband (who has much larger hands). After two years they still have an excellent edge. (My Litmus test for this is their ability to slice tomatoes without mangling them.) Never thought it possible, but whenever we cook away from home, I actually miss my knives. As with any long-term investment, I would definitely suggest handling them in a store to make sure they are exactly what you're looking for before purchasing online.

The knives speak for themselves. This isn't a review about the knives but the purchasing process. The knives were delivered before the expected delivery date and in great condition. Would definitely purchase again.

Kyocera Revolution Series 7-Inch Professional Chef's Knife, White BladeI bought this knife after seeing how they are made on a television show. I have been very pleased with it's performance.

The knife is only for cutting through flesh fruit, vegetables and boneless meat only. Do not expect to use this knife on bone-in meat without chipping the knife.

As far as cutting, it is very sharp. I get clean and easy cuts, including frozen meat. I was running late making dinner one night, pulled out a package of frozen chicken breast and chopped it into slices in no time.

The manufacturer recommends this knife be cleaned and stowed immediately after use if you leave in in the bottom of a stainless steel sink, be prepared for a dull and/or shattered knife (when you forget the knife is in the sink and you drop in a heavy pan). Hand wash only!

My only gripe is the handle. As mentioned in other reviews, it is very smooth with no features to grip it can get slippery with prolonged use.

This knife is very sharp. It is also more fragile than most steel knives. Wife was totally pleased with it until she dropped it and chipped the blade on the ceramic tile kitchen floor.

One of the things she likes best is the way it does not bruise or darken fruits(apples) and vegetables(lettuce) after cutting.

Everyone should own a ceramic knife if not several. It manages to always stay sharp and is my go to knife everyday. I will caution you that it is rather brittle, and cannot withstand being dropped on hard surfaces. I have had one of these knives for several years, and have broken the very tip of it off, but otherwise it has held up very well (I'm very careful with it). I don't, however, but it in the dishwasher so maybe that has helped. I love this product and suggest anyone to try it for themselves.

So, when my father wanted a ceramic knife for Christmas, my sister bought him the Kitchenaid brand from Target; with in the week it broke. So when he wanted a replacement, I was skeptical about buying another one. We searched and compared then finally came up with this one. After a week of using this knife, I was pleasantly surprised and my father was a happy person again. It didn't chip or break in half (like the other one) and his faith in ceramic knives was restored.

Please note, if you have never used one of these knives before, there are cutting restrictions mentioned by the manufacturer. Read over those and these:

-do not cut : frozen items (father cut frozen cheese, knife broke in half), bones, or very hard cartilage.

-great knife for: fresh bread, veggies, and thawed meats.

It took a little while to get use to how lightweight the knife is. It's sharp enough to do surgery! With reasonable care -, e.g., don't chop, stab or pry or drop on a hard surface, it will last a long long time. The ceramic material is not as flexible as steel so keep that in mind. It works brilliantly for dicing, slicing, julienning. I have barely used my mandoline since purchasing the knife. Also be sure to handle the knife properly by using a knuckle as a gauge and keep your finger tip away. I would never let anyone else borrow this knife because they would cut themselves. Let them buy their own. I gave one to my brother and demonstrated proper cutting technique first.

Because it is *so* sharp, one can neatly slice things that normally require a serrated knife: bread, cake, tomatoes.

7" size is very versatile. Highly recommended to the serious cook. By "serious", I mean a person accustomed to using knives in the kitchen.

Very disappointed in the quality of this silverware. About one quarter of the pieces were defective -knifes with the tips cut off, bent forks, etc. Stay away from the Towle brand.

This was the first time I purchased expensive flatware with the "superior" 18/10 stainless steel. (Supposedly, this higher level of nickel content makes the metal more resistant to damage and wear). I like it, but I don't really see it as much superior to the standard (cheap) 18/0 stainless steel flatware that I have used in the past. I am basically happy with my purchase, but I don't think I would say it was worth the extra money.

The metal does look slightly dull after a few uses and it has minute scratches. It doesn't look bad. It just doesn't look any better than the cheap flatware.

That said, it has a nice design, goes well on any table and has a good hand feel and weight to it. Its good flatware. I like the flatware. I would just advise you to find a good sale price as I don't see the justification is charging so much more than the 18/0 flatware which has served me well for many years ( or did until my rotten stepdaughter swiped it....but that's another story....)

Knife, Serrated Cook's 5-1/2'Best knife ever! This is the one and only knife you need in your kitchen, it does everything. I have not been able to find another one, but now that it is on Amazon I am going to order a few right away to stock up.

These have a serrated blade that is sharper than Ann Coulter's chin--and stays that way! I originally bought two of them to replace the Good Cook 4.5" Utility Knives I had from several years ago and cannot find any more. Then I realized that these are a little bigger but still good for a paring knife and also as a Chef's knife. You can just throw away your dull chef's knife now, like my Chicago Cutlery one that cost twice as much. It's really fantastic. Enjoy!

This knife slices chicken and other meats better than any other knife I have.

It's not as good for vegetables because its too wide and a bit big for that.

But definitely my go to knife for meats.

I have used this brand's utility knife for years and love it. Ordered this Chef's knife and the second time I used it (to cut a piece of cheese), the plastic handle broke at the top (near the blade), and the blade, now free, swung up like a reverse folding knife!

However, the knife comes with a protective holder that I would love to be able to use to protect the blade. The holder is so poorly designed that I cut myself severely the first time I attempted to insert the knife into it. This knife is perfect for just about any precise cutting task. The handle is grippy, and easy to hold. The blade is somewhat thin, but not so thin that it can't cut through carrots with ease. Very balanced weight. All around decent knife for the money, and the design is nice. I prefer not to use the plastic sheath, primarily to prevent premature blade-dulling. As another reviewer noted, the stylized sheath has an opening near the tip that exposes the blade during insertion. If the sheath is held improperly, you can easily slice yourself. However, the sheath is handy, and I will keep it to protect the blade during transport. I could easily see myself buying another primarily for camping trips.

Update: First off, don't listen to me. I am not a chef. I actually use this knife often and I use it for everything from opening packages to stirring soup to flipping burgers. I use one utensil if I can so I don't have as many dishes to wash. Anyway, this knife, despite my earlier comments (below), is a good, sharp and useful item. I feel my 3-stars is a bit harsh... but then again, this isn't Japanese damascus from a master either.

Previous comments: I like knives and I'm Swiss. This was a spontaneous purchase. I am using it quite a bit... since it's affordable and easily sharpened it might even spread some peanut butter since it seems to be out of the drawer more than other knives.

That being said... It was not perfectly sharpened on arrival. Within a week it had a small knick in it. I resharpened it then it's nice.. but didn't hold it's edge long. 3-stars.

This Zyliss has become somewhat of a utility knife in our kitchen since the other blades I ordered the same day are much sharper, hold a refined edge better and seem precious compared to this. I'd like to give it 4-stars for the superior handle and cool guard... but a knife is really about cutting performance.

Update: There's nothing more to add. It was sub-$10 and it's very handy. I do think there are better. I ordered a Mora for outdoor use that is 10X the knife this is... but I also ordered a few kitchen blades that are much nicer.. in the same price range.

Would I buy another of this same knife? 3-stars... unlikely.

I love this knife set. It has everything I need and the knives are of great quality. I have only been using them for about a month so I can't speak to how they wear over time yet, but will update this review if anything negative arises.

Ordered the 10 piece Koga Series Ginsu knife set. The only thing Koga was the bamboo holder. All knives were Marquee Series, made in China. They are decent, but when I order something, I expect to receive what was advertised. Very disappointed in Amazon with this purchase.

Purchased Ginsu Koga Series knife set. Received set marked Marquee and Made in China. Where it was made wasn't that important to me but not being the correct series caused me to return it. One if the smaller knives was plain and didn't even have the stamped embossing.The only thing marked Koga was the knife block.

this is a nice set of knives, but they are not what they seem to be.

1. 420J2 budget quality stainless steel (doesn't hold edge well, but durable)

2. these are not japanese blades :

A. the blade is printed made in china

B. the patterning is actually stamped into the metal as oppose the metal was "worked" (fake pattern)

C. claim to be forged but I highly doubt that due to the false pattern

3. the sheers don't separate

Knowing all that and you just want a knife set thats about a 100 bucks (bought as lightning deal) not a bad deal

I read several reviews about the various shears offered on Amazon and finally settled on these because of price and reviews. I am glad I did. I love the small ones and use them for just about everything from opening an Amazon box to cutting dead flowers off my hanging planters. They come apart so they are easy to clean. The grandkids find them easy to use and it's a lesson in construction for them to figure out how the two parts go back together again. The other ones work well for meat, poultry and cutting up kitchen "stuff". I recommend these highly.

I love my new kitchen scissors. They fit all my cooking needs as well as simply opening a package. I would definitely recommend them.

Messermeister Elite 4 1/2-Inch High Carbon Forged Stainless Steel Steak KnifeAn excellent forged partially serrated steak knife. The cosmetic appearance is near perfect. The blade shape and thickness is ideal for the job. This forged knife does not exhibit any of the blade warpage that is common with less expensive stamped knives.

As with most fine knives, hand washing is recommended. This knife seems to survive occasionally being washed in the dishwasher without any staining or corrosion to the blade. Dishwashing gradually dulls the edge and very slightly lightens the handle. As with most knives, the possibility of blade corrosion is reduced by not allowing the blade to contact any dissimilar metals in the dishwasher.

One thing you might notice with this knife and other forged steak knives is that the handle seems to be a little on the small side. This is generally necessary to get the knife to balance properly. Even with the small handle, the center of gravity on this knife is slightly behind the first rivet on the handle. A larger handle would move the CG even farther back on the handle (or require a thicker blade). I have compared this knife to other forged knives with larger handles and this one definitely balances better.

Although I am giving this knife five stars and I am very happy with it, I can't help but wonder if the average consumer might be just as happy buying cheaper stamped or laser cut knives and just replacing them every couple years.

We live in Oregon so, we get Tillamook cheese. It's a medium cheddar cheese. I own a nice big set of Wusthof knives and I own all three of their cheese knives. None of them work very well. I've tried the stainless steel wire & wheel device and it doesn't cut smoothly or consistently. My wife for years has used a potato peeler but I think the slices are too thin.

This Boska cheese slicer is the best of all applications. It slices with very little resistance and it makes even, consistent slices. I love it!

The only thing I can say is you might want to get the one with a metal handle because my kids use this and it's going to one day end up in the dishwasher and I'm sure the wood will be shot!

Works great and looks great for the price you pay. I've had this for a couple of months now and I haven't had any problems with it. It gives me nice even slices of cheese.

This thing works just okay. It is not the one to use if you are cutting up a lot of cheese. For that you want the marble cheese slicer. I have tried them all and nothing comes close to the marble cheese slicer. Again, for a little snack, this is okay.
