Chef's Choice Electric 3-stage Knife Sharpener

Chef's Choice Electric 3-stage Knife SharpenerThis sharpener works great. Just don't go crazy with the first stone because it will grind your knife down. But that was really good when I had to reshape a knife that had a chipped blade, I ground it down till the chip was gone and then moved on to the other two grinding wheels. I would recommend this product for anyone who likes sharp knives but does not have the time to do it by hand on traditional grindstones.

It take less than a minute to sharpen my knives, and the are sharper than the factory blade. It is impossible to mess them up because the sharpener does all of the work, all you to is pull. You just want to make sure that you hone your knives so that you blade is straight, or you will mess your knife up, But you have to do that will every knife sharpener.

This device has ruined a lot of knives; several of mine, victims of my own stupidity. Frankly, you're better off sharpening your fine cutlery on the curb of the street in front of your house. Anyone who endorses this trash knows nothing about putting an edge on a good knife. The instructions are confusing, the damage done to my Forcheners and Wusthoffs is incalculable. I ended up buying a Lansky kit...a great way to reset the edges on the cutlery that the Chef's Choice system had ruined.

This "knife sharpener" does not sharpen knives. After reading and following the instructions, I tried it on several knives. It leaves the knives much less sharp than they were before being "sharpened". The product is completely unacceptable. It creates a "burr" on the edge, which then folds over immediately the first time it touches anything. The product description is plainly false.

I owned an old Chef's Choice sharpener, a model 110. That unit wore out after ten or so years of infrequent use. This unit was to replace that one. I will instead just keep a pair of Crock Sticks that I have had since I was a Boy Scout, and an old-fashioned grinding wheel.

Wusthof Gourmet 18-Piece Block Set

Wusthof Gourmet 18-Piece Block SetI've been buying the Wusthof knives for 5 years now. some of them are as sharp as the day I bought them. They hardly need sharpening. DO NOT USE ON GRANITE OR HARD COUNTERTOPS. always use a plastic sheet or something similar cause that makes the edges of these or any other knives, blunt..then you would need to sharpen them..Will sometimes stain from the dishwasher detergent, however these stains come off easily with a sponge or just rewashing them in the dishwasher..they are not deep core stains.

The wooden block that sells with the set is really cheap quality that is why I ducked a star..most knives don't fit nicely in the slots

Just got this amazing set of 18 knives and separate 1 knife of same company! i'm just happy. delivered fast, in perfect condition, very good quality product! cant stop chopping :))

Magisso Stainless Steel Cake Server

Magisso Cake ServerI am SO disappointed at this cake server... I loved the design and practicality of this product, and was waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it. After months of owning it, I've finally used it, and was shocked that it broke during its first use! No pressure or force was applied, but it just split open at the narrower end. For such an expensive item (for what it is), I really expected it to be of much better quality.

UPDATE: The company sent me a replacement Cake Server free of charge, but I haven't used it yet. Hopefully, this one won't break too...

I was too excited to have this cake server that I even bought three of it for me and for my friends, but when it came it was too rusty at the edges and it might break very easily. I'm so disappointed with this product it such a waste for $39.90 USD.

Rachael Ray Tools Bench Scrape Shovel

Rachael Ray Tools Bench Scrape Shovel, OrangeEvery now and then I run across a simple little tool that I knew about but never owned. I always used the side of my chefs knife to transfer chopped, diced or minced food to the pan or bowl. I thought that a scoop or shovel was not necessary and was better suited for amateurs. Then I was cooking at a friend's house and saw him using this exact tool. I was shocked to see how quickly he picked up every bit of the chopped rosemary that was on his cutting board. As soon as I got home I purchased Rachael Ray's Bench Scrape/Shovel and I am glad that I did.

I am always surprised by just how much food fits in this thing. In addition to using it as I shovel, I also use it to clean my cutting board, especially when I have been rolling dough on it. I also can divide dough with the knife edge of the scrape. I like it so much I will be using it as a hostess gift when I am invited to someone's house. It would also be an appropriate gift for a young cook. Great product!

I love this bench scraper. It's large -5 x 6 inches, including the handle -so some people might find it awkward. But I like that you can scoop up everything in one shot. The handle is comfortable, but what I like most is that the sides have an edge sloping down from the handle, so chopped food doesn't fall off when you scrape it up off your cutting board. The shipping charge was outrageous -as much as the item itself -so I tried to find it locally (Kohl's carries Rachel Ray items) but couldn't. I got it for a Christmas present so I try not to think about the shipping rip-off.

This product is hard to find in stores so you can't really look at it before buying it, but I recommend you purchase it anyway. You're probably comparing this to a normal pastry scraper (which might be cheaper), but this is better for the following reasons:

1. More surface area, many pastry scrapers are like 4x6 inches, while this is roughly 6x6.

2. The rubber grip on the handle is pretty unique and definitely a big plus.

3. Some handles on pastry scrapers are round and won't lie flat on the bench.

It's an all-around solid, sturdy product.

really like this product so far...edge is kind of sharp, so watch out. holds a lot of chopped items in one scoop. great thing to have if you cook with a lot of cut veggies!

I would expect more from Rachael Ray and for the cost of this product. Cannot put in dishwasher unless you want the glue that holds the colored part of the tool on to come out the sides. Have to hand wash this product. Too costly for the cheapness.

Farberware Resin 7-Inch Santoku with Blade Sheath, Orange

Farberware Resin 7-Inch Santoku with Blade Sheath, OrangeLove this knife. Size is nice for cutting bigger things. Makes cutting difficult things extremely easy. I use it to cut butternut squash, blocks of cheese. I have bought many other knives like this and have been very pleased. I bought this one because I needed a larger knife. I have been very pleased so far.

I'm a college student (GO GATORS!) and this knife has been perfect for all of my needs. It's just the right size to store, to cut up vegetables or fruit, and even works fairly well on meat. The sheath is GREAT for storage as well.

My only criticism is that it's not really the kind of knife you can sharpen, but at this price, that's not much of a concern. I've had it for over a year, and it's still doing well for me :)

Kyocera Ceramic Steel Sharpener

Kyocera 6 Inch Ceramic Steel SharpenerI received the sharpener in about 4 days with ground shipping.

I immediately tried it on my Henkels, it made it so sharp, I was able to cut thin slices, horizontally, of paper with it. Then I started with my cheap knives, which were pretty dull, using the groved side and then the smooth side. The result was a set of pretty sharp , slicer, bread knife, utility, and paring knives.

This is an essential item that every knife owner must have. It's versatile and fantastic for all sorts of knives, scissors and not just your chef's knives. I primarily use it for my hunting and pocket knives. It can be used to sharpen, hone or realign the blade's edge. There is a smooth side for honing or even realigning the burr during routine maintenance and a ribbed side for sharpening your knives if needed. So if you're in the market for an excellent sharpening or honing steel, get this one and you won't regret it.

if you have a good knife you need one of these to keep its edge. throw out that old steel from you knifeblock. Ceramic is the way to go.

I opened up the box. went right to my kitchen and honed up my henckles and my shun. i have been using myold steel on these daily and i saw an amazing difference. this is the sharpest my henckles chef knife has ever been.

Try a quick test pushing your knife through a ripe tomato without making a slicing motion. If you cant do it you need one of these.

Word of caution: dont drop it. Even though ceramic is harder than steel it can chip or break so baby it a bit. This will also sharpen some as well as reallign the blade. you will see the metal it removes.

Wish it had a better handle thus the four stars but i wouldnt spend any more because this does exactly what i need.

Great product for sharpening (ribbed side) and honing your knives. Note of caution, the ceramic material is very tough indeed, so I found it leaves small scratches on my knives. MY knives which are Shun Elite have polished edge and these scratches are visible. Whether honing or sharpening apply very very light pressure to minimize this effect.

Want Kyocera Ceramic Steel Sharpener Discount?

I already have a ceramic steel. I use it extensively but find is sometimes to fine a steel to correct for even minor blade flaws. The Kyocera steel is more aggressive, but still subtle enough not to remove too much metal. I have used it to quickly touch up all of my straight bladed knives. I like it a lot. I gave it four star rating due to the cheap plastic handle... What were they thinking. I purchased their ceramic knives at the same time and alas, plastic handles. Great blades but again what were they thinking.

Hagerty Zippered Holloware Bags

Hagerty 19500 15-by-15-inch Zippered Holloware Bag, BlueI must agree with the reviewer from Georgia. I purchased several Hagerty Zippered Bags from two different vendors here on Amazon.com. The first vendor sent my order for (4) 9"x12" bags and (4) 15"x15" bags; the second vendor (ordered several months later) sent my order for (1) 24"x30" bag. Both vendors, by the way, were excellent to deal with. All my silver was polished to it's best and placed into the bags and put away for long-term storage. (I am a retired butler to one of the country's great families. I know all about polishing silver and what is, and what is not, a good polish of this metal).

It was in June of this year that I received a notice from the second vendor regarding the large tray bag. She asked that I check the silver and notify her of the silver tray's condition. I took it out of storage, removed it from the bag and was amazed to find that the silver not only tarnished badly after less than two months, but that there was also a while chalky film covering most of the sterling tray. I called her immediately and reported what I had found. She explained that she had received the same replies from a couple of her customers. It was then I found out that Hagerty has suspended its USA production of the bags and has out-sourced them to China. What a surprise! The bags may look the same, but the quality of material and whatever tarnish retarding properties that may have been added to the material was very much lacking. It may, more importantly, not at all be safe for the silver (sterling or plate). She replaced the bag with one made in the USA. I had an unused boxed bag from the other set and checked the box for manufacture's origin. It was Made in China.

I immediately looked at all the silver in the other seven smaller bags and the same condition found on the tray was also on all the pieces comprising the large sterling tea set. Now I was horrified. I called the first vendor, explained the situation, but they were not able to replace the bags as the 90-day return period had expired. I was given the phone number to Hagerty to find a solution.

Unfortunately calling Hagerty is of no use to anyone. You will get the famous "menu" to select the person you want to contact. Only problem is that you aren't given any indication who or what this person is or does. I selected at random 3 different persons and left voice messages. There was never any response. After two weeks I sent an e-mail asking what solution could be arranged for replacement of these inferior bags. No response. The next week, I sent a not-so-nice e-mail outlining my very great displeasure with their product, but more importantly, their total lack of customer service. I even mentioned that I would write this review thinking they might not want unfavorable mention of this incident made public to such a large audience as is found on Amazon.com. My personal customer service intentions are always carried through to never less than satisfactory expectations. Hence, this review.

If you order these bags, I would be very careful to do so without first checking with the supplier/vendor about where the Hagerty bags are manufactured. On a side note consider this, too. I received the large replacement tray bag (Made in USA) and after a "down to the metal" polish, I put it into the bag. I checked the tray just a few days ago and noticed it was beginning to tarnish. So, what gives with the USA bags? Like the Georgia reviewer, I have used the same Hagerty bags for nearly 50 years without any issue. Now, these new bags don't seem to be any better, or more effective, than wrapping the silver in newspaper. I would avoid Hagerty altogether and make my own bags from yardage from Pacific Silver Cloth ... as I am now doing.

I bought several of these silversmith's cloth bags and found that they do not keep my sterling silver flatware nearly as tarnish free as my older bags that came with my silver. My older feltt bags came with the silver 35 yrs

ago and have kept the silver tarnish free. These newer Hagerty silversmith cloths do not.

This is a great product. It keeps your silver tarnish free so I don't have to spend time cleaning and polishing when I need to use the tray and I like the fact that the bag has a zippered closure.

Hagerty products have been around for over 100 years and continue to be one of the best buys I ever make when I have a piece of silver to store. It keeps me from not using my silver, by always keeping the items in the bags polished and rarely tarnishes if I get the item washed and replaced in the Hagerty bag right after use( don't let it sit around the house for a week or so!) My Grandmother and Mom used these bags; they are GREAT1

Want Hagerty Zippered Holloware Bags Discount?

I'm really disappointed with my recent purchase. I just opened the bag to take out some silver and it's tarnished. Really a disappointment. I don't know if the bag was made in China as others have said, but I do know the product didn't work. I should return it. Very reluctant to buy more until they change manufacturers.

Oneida Lincoln 45-Piece Set, Service for 8

Oneida Lincoln 45-Piece Set, Service for 8Was happy when I first received my flatware, they were solid and as other reviewers noted...heavy. I enjoyed that they were shiney and made my old flatware look cheap. Anyway after a few washings, I noticed that some of the pieces were loosing their shine and it was quite apparent. No one seems to know how to bring back the shine, maybe it was just a factory finish that easily wears off, but very disapointing.

I got this to add to an existing set of the same pattern. They hold up well and show minimal scratches with daily use. The pattern is simplistic and match both my everyday dishes and occasional china.

I was impressed by this small knife which is excellent for cutting soft foods such as tomatoes. The knife is quite small and easy to handle, and the serrated edge is very sharp. Naturally I wouldn't recommend it in place of a Chef's knife, but it does a great job when you do need a small serrated knife. It's a bit too small for slicing bread, but works very well for small vegetables. The included sheath was a nice touch.

The blade while stamped, appears well made and like other Komachi knives, has a colorful coating which among other things, makes the knife easy to find and identify.

I gave this knife four stars instead of five because of the build quality, I wasn't all that impressed with the plastic handle. At the price though I think that the plastic handle is more than acceptable. Overall, i'd recommend this knive, and would say that it provides excellent value.

Lansky 4-rod Turn Box Crock Stick Sharpener (LCD5D)

Lansky 4-rod Turn Box Crock Stick SharpenerThe sharpener:

The sharpener contains four ceramic rods, a dark gray coarse pair and a white fine pair, which are stored conveniently in the wooden body (which is a nondescript, varnished hardwood of the type found in cheap folding furniture, for example.) In use, these rods would be inserted into two pairs of holes drilled into the wooden case. The holes serve to hold the rods at a particular angle, letting you create properly shaped, repeatable edges on your knives.

How to use it:

If you are starting with a dull blade, you start with the dark rods. You put them in the pair of holes that are spaced farther apart (as in the product photo.) Those holes are drilled at 20 degrees from vertical, which will create an edge that is very close to the proper shape, and make further sharpening go faster (I will explain that below.)

You hold the wooden body with a free hand down on a countertop or tabletop, then grip your knife in your other hand, edge down and pointing forward, and draw the knife edge against one of the rods downwards and backwards. You have to be careful to keep your other hand out of the path of the knife. You do a few strokes on one side, then switch to the other.

Since most knives have curved edges, you should ideally draw the handle up as you draw it back in a rocker motion, to keep the edge at a constant angle to the rods. With an 8" chef's knife, it wouldn't matter much, but with smaller knives with a deeper curve, it might be important, especially if you want the knife to be equally sharp from tip to heel.

After the edge has been shaped (if you have a magnifying glass, you can see when the "V" of the edge has flat sides that come to a point) and the knife doesn't seem to be getting sharper, you remove those gray rods and take out the white rods and insert them in the other pair of holes, and repeat the process. Those holes are closer and offset from each other, so that the two rods actually cross, so you can tell the two pairs of holes apart easily. Those holes are drilled at 25 degrees from vertical, i.e. the rods slant more. (That means the knife edge will form a 50 degree angle, which is a good compromise between sharpness and edge durability.) Because you formed the edge first with the coarse rods at 20 degrees, the white rods will contact the knife only at the exact edge, which is the only part that really matters. This allows sharpening to go faster.

This process is a little fussier. You do four strokes on a side for a while, then two strokes, then one, so you are alternating between one side and then the other. At those last stages you should use very little pressure. You will end up with a razor sharp knife.

After that, you should be able to go for quite a while with using only the white rods in the 25 degree holes to touch up the edge. Eventually though, you will have to start over with the gray rods in the 20 degree holes.

So what is good and bad about this sharpener?

The good:

The sharpener reliably produces sharp edges with the correct angles. That 25 degree angle is difficult to achieve with any consistency using most other sharpening systems, but this one makes it easy.

It is cheap. I have done a fair amount of research, and I believe this is probably the cheapest sharpening system that actually can produce edges at repeatable angles. There are other, more flexible systems (including one from Lansky) but they cost more. And there are cheaper systems (like a simple ceramic rod with a handle) that require you to eyeball the angle, which would almost certainly mean either a weak, inconsistent edge or lots of wasted effort, or both. Other systems offer only one set of rods, or only one angle.

The entire thing packs into a self-contained, convenient package. The rods go into holes drilled lengthwise in the wooden body, and an attached endpiece rotates to cover both holes. When it is packed up, it forms a little wooden brick. It is actually a pretty clever design.

The bad:

The entire thing is small, so there isn't much room to hold on to the body with your other hand. So it is relatively easy to cut yourself. Fancier and larger sharpeners of this type (like the Spyderco system) have some kind of hand guard. With this one you should take extra care to place all your fingers in a safe position. And you should proceed slowly, and in a well-lit area.

The rods are only five inches long, and only 4 1/2 inches of is usable when the rods are mounted. That means there is little space to draw the knife downwards, and you end up using a mostly horizontal motion, drawing the knife back towards yourself. Otherwise you will end up slicing into the wood body or hitting the other rod. This means that sharpening goes relatively slowly. I have been experimenting with drawing the knife up instead of down, while drawing it back. It is an odd motion, but it seems to work well.

The body is relatively slick and light, and has no rubber feet, so it can slide around on the countertop a little. So if you were particularly careful, you might want to set it on a piece of no-slide pad used under rugs (you can find similar stuff used as shelf liners or toolbox liners. It resembles a rubber-coated mesh.)

(This is a quibble.) The wood and the finish are just adequate, nothing special. Since I like doing this kind of thing, I sanded off the varnish and finished the entire thing, including all the holes, with tung oil (mixed 30% with mineral spirits.) The holes on top are a slightly tight fit for the rods, so I had to make sure to remove any extra oil from the holes which might keep the rods from fitting. It took about 20 minutes from start to finish, and it is much nicer, and probably more durable.

Lastly, like all sharpeners that use rods, it doesn't work well for super-hard steel like that found in some Japanese knives. The tiny contact point can actually make that steel fracture and chip. Those knives would do better with a large traditional whetstone, like a Japanese waterstone. (This sharpener also doesn't work with serrated knives, but most serrated knives, like those cheap flexible stainless steel knives, aren't intended to be sharpened anyway. The Spyderco system is one of the few that can handle serrated knives.)

Good luck!

Pros: Easy to use, works very well to hone blades, economical, compact, and stores easily.

Cons: ceramic sticks wobble, not 20 and 25 degree angles.

This is pretty simple to use and it works fine. However, mine has holes that are oversized and allow the ceramic rods to wobble a bit and the sharpening angles are closer to 22 and 28 degrees. It still works fine, but this is a bit annoying. If your knife is truly dull, this will gadget will take forever to sharpen the blade. Instead, use the Accusharp sharpener to sharpen and use this to hone the blade to hair cutting sharp and keep them there.

I have been sharpening my own knives for over forty years. In all that time, my knives were consistently sharper than any others. That changed when I came across the "Lansky 4-rod Turn Box Crock Stick Sharpener."

The simplicity of this product makes it superior in every aspect. I know, for I own several other types of knife sharpeners. Before I go out fishing, hunting, or even just for a hike, I sharpen all my knives with the Lansky 4-rod sharpener. Once in the field, if I need to refresh the edge (which is extremely rare), I use a Lansky hand held diamond sharpener.

You cannot go wrong with this product.

I have many different non electric powered sharpeners and this is the best one yet for effectivness, simplicity and overall value. I think I paid around $12.00 for mine at the Atlanta show.

The sticks are a little short for my taste, but overall they work very nicely. I really like that the stand double as storage for all 4 sticks.

Sanelli 316825 Indented 10 Inch Cooks Knife

Sanelli 316825 Indented 10 Inch Cooks KnifeThis is an exceptional knife and one that I highly recommend for anyone who spends serious time preparing food and cooking. Previously, I used an 8" Wustof chef's knife. I like the added length of the 10" blade. It gives me added leverage and yet is not cumbersome or unwieldy. The rubber grip is both practical and comfortable since my hands tend to get wet from washing and rinsing as I cook. The blade is very sharp. It's not as heavy as the German knives but that's not a drawback to me. The performance is outstanding. I cut the rind off a watermelon using single, easy strokes. I find that when cutting something dense like cucumber, the pieces still stick to the blade, despite the santoku design, but there are no drawbacks to it either. More testing will be needed to determine if the dimples are effective.

Colour Grip 12-inch Cutting Board, Purple

Colour Grip 12-inch Cutting Board, PurpleI purchased two of these and love the way they grip the counter and do not move. They're also the right size to just leave out as I do. The clean up nicely in the disher washer as well as by hand.

Don't be fooled...this not a very large cutting board. But it's exactly what my Mom wanted. It's perfect size for those who don't need or want a super large cutting board. It works very well and is very good quality.

Very small cutting board 12" x 7 1/2". Not what I thought it was going to be. Thought it would be 12" x 12". Wish I had known this before ordering. While the color is indeed purple and fits well on the counter, it will only hold a litle bit of content.

This is a wonderful cutting board! I like the handle on the end and the gripping band on the other end which keeps the board from sliding unexpectedly on the counter or when storing it standing on end. I bought a large and a small one and have used both many, many times! They clean up nicely by hand or in the dishwasher and have not stained. I love the color which has not faded or distorted. I use the small one the most but then again, I cook for two. The larger one comes in handy for bigger recipes. I would recommend this to any cook who likes a little flair for their kitchen chores!
