Oneida Satin Sand Dune 45-Piece Set, Service for 8
I purchased this service for 8 flatware set and also a service for 4 flatware set (both Satin Sand Dune) three months ago, so I could have a complete service for 12. I have included the product link for the service for 4 set at the end of this review, if you care to view it. Since my purchase, it appears that there has been some mix-up in Oneida's labeling of the flatware. Some customer reviews state that the flatware is not actually 18/8, but 18/0, and, therefore, poorer quality and an inferior product. As of right now, on the service for 8 set product page (this product page), Amazon has 18/0 as the rating in Product Features. I thought when I originally purchased the product it was advertised as 18/8, but, unfortunately, I cannot fully remember if I noticed how the Oneida box was marked when I received the package.
So all of that is definitely confusing to me. But, to be fair, I have to report that after three months of using this flatware everyday and washing it in my dishwasher, I am very pleased with both the quality and the luster of my Satin Sand Dune sets. They still sparkle like new, there is no rust visible on any of the pieces at all, or any unexplained bending or warping, and the pieces all stack nicely and evenly in my silverware caddy.
It has been stated that the reason the flatware is rated as 18/0 is because the nickel was left out of the content of the flatware when it was manufactured. Well, if that is true, as it turns out, I have sensitive skin and cannot wear any type of jewelry other than gold or platinum. My dermatologist explained to me that this was a common allergy and was caused by the nickel content found in costume jewelry, including sterling silver jewelry. So, for me, and others with the same condition, flatware without nickel is probably a very good thing.
My old flatware set was rated at 18/10, and I did find this flatware slightly lighter in weight, but not any lighter than if it was actually rated at 18/8, as I expected. I had no clue about the 18/0 rating until I decided to write my own positive review about the product and came back here to the amazon product pages. I certainly support truth in advertising as much as the next person, but, really, who truly knows how or when the mis-labeling occurred? Mistakes can happen to manufacturers also, and at least it appears Oneida and Amazon have made an attempt to correct the original error.
The only thing I feel a little bad about is that I actually paid about thirty dollars more for this service for 8 set when I bought it in May, but that is just timing and the luck of the draw! At the time of writing this review, Amazon now has this 45 piece Satin Sand Dune set with the serving pieces at a reduced price. In my opinion, that price is a bargain.
So, I certainly wish you good luck with your shopping decision, as I know this confusion with the rating just makes it more complicated. But, if anyone wants to know if I, personally, would purchase this product again for myself, or as a gift for someone, I would have to say most definitely, yes, especially after putting it to the test for the last three months. And that goes for both the 20 piece set and this 45 piece set with the serving pieces. They both still look brand new.
Oneida Satin Sand Dune 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4I have the Satin Sand Dune flatware set, all "made in USA"...
I ordered this 45 piece to have extra forks (etc) and it was "made in Vietnam".
The Vietnam piece's are very similar, but not the same. Bent slightly different, varying widths etc. Lesser quality for sure.
The box says "made in usa/china/vietnam/etc" so I guess you get what you get.

We had this flatware for 4 years and it still looks okay. But now we are buying new ones because it has lost its shine from all the washing. Can cut through steak but not so with ease unlike other brands. Lightweight and just right for everyday use but not for more formal dinings. For 18/0 this is okay for everyday. Simple but not elegant.J.A. Henckels 13-Slot In-Drawer Knife Tray
If Tim Allen got into cooking and cutlery the way he salivates after handyman tools, he'd be grunting his "can't-wait-to-get-my-hands-on-it" love song. This thing's a monster. Big. Beautiful. Solid. Just like your knives. The only way to go if you can't bring yourself to give up counter space for a knife block, or prefer the open slide of a knife drawer to getting fallen crumbs, hidden dust, and possibly grime (ugh!) out of those narrow knife block slots. One of the most practical things you'll ever purchase--even if it seems like a "luxury" item now or something you'll "eventually" get (uh-huh)--paying for good knives but failing to pay for proper storage (I discovered the hard way) is like buying a good bicycle then leaving it outside to rust. At this affordable price, consider it a "knife" purchase--one that you don't have but can't do without. Even if you're just discovering the value of high quality cutlery, this knife drawer not only is a good investment for all subsequent purchases, but also it lets you know how many you do and don't have, keeps them all together and, if need be, you can put everything in one place then secure it with a child-proof mechanism. It makes a great gift when you'd like to give something unique but practical and affordably priced.
Another advantage is the opening for the knife hone: It's centered and can act as a dividing mark. If you're a "two knife set" household like we are (knives are like shoes -they tend to wear and adjust to the user), then each person can have one half of the tray (3 short, 3 long slots each). The depth of the slots keep the handles easy to grasp without too much wriggle room, the color of the wood is as pictured, there are no rough edges or splinters, and the double (not single) Henckels logo appears prominently on the base.
Before you buy, however, measure the place you intend to put it, including any offset space you have to account for in sliding it into the drawer; if you're going to place it on a shelf, make sure that your cupboard door will close. (See measurements in product description.)
Keep it well-maintained according to manufacturer's directions and the feeling of sliding open a drawer and seeing this finely crafted object safely cradling your finely crafted full-tang fully-forged bolstered collection, well, .... it's just everything you hoped it "wood" be. With free shipping, you can't go wrong. This in-drawer knife tray was absolutely perfect. It fit my drawer exactly. I didn't want a big block taking up counterspace and this fit in the drawer where I wanted the knives to go. It arrived in a timely manner and with the free shipping it was the lowest price out there. And beliveve me, I looked!

A much better alternative to knife blocks that usually occupy valuable counter space and that are impossible to clean. This one is designed well, so it can store all sorts of knives. Frees counter space by putting knives into a drawer, while protecting fingers from sharp edges...a great idea in a quality-built product. Knives drop horizontally into the slots, which I find easier than sticking them pin-cushion style into a counter block. Enough room here for all your kitchen and steak knives.Want J.A. 1) Will not hold small knives with larger than Henckels handles (such as Chicago Cuttlery).2) No provision for meat fork.
3) Could be a couple inches wider.
Other than the above, still a pretty nice item for a person needing more counter than drawer space.
NFL Brie Cutting Board with 3-Piece Tool Set
This is such a cool thing!!! I love the logo part, of course, what NFL fan wouldn't? But it is the fact that everything stays tucked under the board that makes this one of my new favorite things. Everything you need it right at your fingertips and I am not only a MAJOR Giants Fan but I am a CHEESE fan :-) It is also bigger than I expected and substantial, not cheap looking at all. J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 3-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set
Very nice knives for the price. Weighted well, attractive and comfortable to hold. I'm satisfied with the sharpness and quality. I did notice that they tend to spot if left to air-dry, so I hand wash & dry them right away.I bought these knives as a starter kit and they really do a great job! I use each piece extensively and for someone who is just starting out, do not see an immediate need for additional knives. They are easy to handle, great value for the money (especially since they are J.A. Henckels!) and cut anything and everything well. There is no need to shop around some more if you are looking for a good set of basic knives-buy these.Buy J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 3-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set Now
I am a professional chef and while I use better knives at work, these are great for the beginner or for doing light work at home. These knives are designed to sharpened by a sharpening steel but they tend to need it less often then your average knife.
Its a cheap knife that you dont mind dinging up or using on frozen product when necessary.
The redesign is also great considering that the old version of the Eversharp would at times flip over
and stand upright with its cutting edge straight up! That's a dangerous flaw which has been since rectified.
Its a good started product and you can eventually work your way up to a F.Dicks or GLOBAL product as you become more seasoned.First off, I'm not a gourmet chef. I cook simple, down-home meals using common, everyday, easy-to-find ingredients. For those reasons, I don't need to spend a fortune on knives. This set is perfect for me. The knives have a nice weight & feel good in my hands.
Each knife has a triple riveted, contoured, black polypropylene handle with stainless rivets, & each knife has a fully visible tang construction. Although the knives are dishwasher safe, it's recommended that they be hand-washed. According to my packaging, each knife is made from high quality German stainless steel, is one-piece precision stamped & has a duo blade finish-blade; with a mirror polished edge, satin finished.
Each knife has a different serration.
The 8" chef's knife's blade has a micro serrated edge, I use this knife for most everything I do...chopping, cutting & slicing.
The 5" utility knife's blade has coarse serration; I find this knife very difficult to use because of the size of the serration. I rarely use it.
The 3" paring knife's edge is finely serrated. I use this knife for slicing small fruits and vegetables. It can also be used for boning small poultry.
I've owned my set for about 6 years now & have had no problems with it. They look like new and perform like new. Most of the time I hand-wash & dry them. I always store them in their original packaging to keep the blades from banging against my silverware & other utensils. In the past 2 or 3 years, I've purchased other sets for wedding gifts. As far as I'm concerned, this set is all I'll ever need to make delicious, home-cooked meals for my family.
I gave the set 4 stars because the serration on the utility knife makes it hard for me to use, otherwise it would've gotten 5 stars from me.

I used my Henckels knives for the first time yesterday, and I was so very impressed. They immediately imparted a sense of the craftsmanship and pride behind their manufacture. No flimsy feeling, no bending blade, no wavy cut--the design and weight of these knives is so perfect, I felt I was behind the wheel of a quality sportscar. These knives are well-balanced, easily guided, razor-sharp, and they really seem to take the labor out of food preparation! I've had these knives for about 4 months. They can cut well for how cheap they are, but I snapped the handle trying to cut through pepperjack cheese. The metal part of the blade does not go far enough through the handles. Not a quality product by any means, but they are good if you need a cheap set of knives. They work for my college dorm kitchen.i was hunting for extra set of knives just for sitting on kitchen counter. i came across this set and wasnt sure about the low price. i ordered it anyway, and im very happy with it. takes up very little room. the wood is nice looking and easy to wipe down. the knifes are pretty good quality for the price i paid. im happy with my purchase.Buy Sunbeam 13-Piece Knife Set with Pinewood Block Now

This is one of the most useful, unusual gadgets in our home. I buy salt/pepper at Costco and fill these S&P shakers, keeping them near the stove for cooking, and pick up the fork to put them on the table as I am setting the table for our meals. Easy and an interesting conversation piece. We are very happy with this purchase. I just purchased this exact set not from Amazon but from a small Mennonite store. I've been looking for some good and I mean GOOD knives, and researching the Net and a number of chef magazines. As I pulled up to the little Mennonite store I noticed a sign stating they carried Rada Cutlery. I'd never even heard of it but I decided to check inside. Although the prices were slightly higher than Amazon offers I still thought they were low enough that the knives could not be of a high quality. One elderly Mennonite woman told me she owned the middle knife and that she loved it used it to butcher her chickens. That was a little icky, but I figured if it was good enough for that, I might as well try the set the price was right.
I am thrilled with the knives. I had to be careful with the parer it slipped through the potato skin so easily I was taking off more of the potato than I wanted. And the middle-sized knife slipped through bacon I was slicing (in a large chunk) as easily as butter.
Now I'm going to order more Rada knives to supplement my little set.
I can't speak highly enough of these knives.I had a Cutco salesman come by the house and try to sell me some knives. I declined although I was interested in purchasing some knives. I went to amazon and saw exactly what I was looking for at my price range. The Cutco paring knife was over $50.00 for one knife. I got all three of these knives for half that price, they are made in the USA and very sharp. Very happy with the Rada product.

I bought these knives as a Christmas gift because my Mom bought me some and I love them. They are so sharp and cut so smooth. They will eventually need to be sharpened, but wait as long as possible, because they won't be as sharp as they were from the factory. But they are still great knives. They will last longer if they are HAND WASHED and stored in a sleeve or a box where they won't come in contact with anything. I do actually have these pieces and would recommend them.Read Best Reviews of Rada Cutlery Paring Knives Galore 3 Piece Boxed Gift Set, Made in USA Here
I've been looking for these knives for many, many years. I have had some Rada paring knives for over 20 years and liked them better than any knives I had. Through years of use and hundreds of sharpenings and after accidentally losing some of them at different places, I'd needed to replace them, but the brand name was not on the blades. Rada Cutlery, sharpened with the Rada sharpeners, are the sharpest knives I've ever used with routine sharpening. Their blades hold their edge and they slice easily and thinly every time. We're going to order more and replace the other knives we have and which we're always trying to sharpen and hone to a Rada edge. Although the handles of the larger knives are too small to provide me the feel I prefer in my hands (I have large hands), the size fits my wife's hands easily and she loves the feel. The prices are affordable and the quality good. We're sending them to our grown children. They remember them from their childhoods and how easy they were to use. More products need to follow the Rada model..... very affordable prices + high quality = many repeat sales.Want Rada Cutlery Paring Knives Galore 3 Piece Boxed Gift Set, Made in USA Discount?
This knives are just perfect for a woman's smaller hands, and the blade is constructed safely from one piece of steel, and it's incredibly sharp as well. I'll never be without these knives again!Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric Sharpener
I purchased this Wusthof Electric Knife Sharpener since I'm getting behind in keeping many of my kitchen knives sharp. I have used a GATCO 5pc Stone Sharpener Gatco Knife Sharpener for years to sharpen my kitchen knives since it uses a clamp on guide to sharpen any knife I own. However this electric sharpener is not as versatile as my Gatco or other electric ones that tell you they will handle Asian knives or boning knives that should be sharpened at a 15° angle. And you can't use the Wusthof for serrated knives. But for sharpening to a 19 to 20° angle for European or American chefs' knives, this Wusthof will handle it (and well). I wonder how much more it would have cost Wusthof to place another set of grinding wheels for a 15° angle? The help line at Wusthof tells me while I cannot use the sharpener on my Santuku knives I can use it on boning knives? Well, I don't buy that advice.I like the fact that I run each knife between the slots between the two wheels. First the coarse wheel slot then the fine slot. Done. Next knife. Easy. But I have a tendency to pull the knife through the slot a bit too fast and the knife skips on the wheel just a bit. I guess the reason why I can't easily sharpen knives other ways is that by the time I sharpen one edge the other edge develops burrs. Sharpening both sides at the same time seems to be the easier way to get a sharp knife. I agonized just a bit over whether a hollow ground sharpened blade edge while sharper will lead me to keep sharpening or tuning the knife because others say that this type of edge tends to be weaker than a traditional edge (as the argument goes). So far, I have not found that to be the case.
PROS:
Puts a hollow ground edge that is sharper than a traditional straight edge.
The Wusthof electric sharpener leaves a very sharp and very smooth edge on my knife, even smoother than with the sharpening stones of my Gatco.
I can sharpen or tune up my knife drawer full of knives in short time.
CONS:
Cannot use it to sharpen serrated, Asian (Santuku, Chinese Chef Knife), and I would add boning knives.
Tends not to sharpen about a quarter inch close to the heel of some knifes because of the design and placement of the interlocking wheels. But will you or I notice this when we use the knife? So far, I have not noticed it.I've used several sharpening systems over the years, both manual and electric.
If you wish to spend the time with oil and stone, you will get the best edge,
but only if you learn the proper techniques and are very methodical.
The Wusthof 2908 is the best electric sharpener I have used.
It is quick and precise. Follow the instructions correctly and
you will get an edge that is almost as good as an oil and stone sharpening,
in one eighth the time.
I just finished my Sabatier set in about 15 minutes,
a job that would take about 2 hours with my Ouachita stone set.
Other electic sharpeners use grinding wheels that sharpen
each side of the blade seperately. The Wusthof 2908 system uses a set of
diamond impregnated steels that sharpen both sides at once,
with a hollow ground pattern.
It is expensive, but the three year warranty and the reputation
of Wusthof for quality cutlery should mean that you will get
many years of quick, efficient sharpening.
Well sharpened knives are safer and make cooking more enjoyable.

If you want your expensive Wusthof knives to be as sharp as they were the first time you used them then get yourself one of these. Nothing worse than a dull knife. And if you already put out the money for Wusthof then you and I both know that cooking is more than just eating. I have tried other non electrical sharpeners only to find that they do not get the blade to the original razor sharpness. This will!Read Best Reviews of Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric Sharpener Here
I have a Chefs Choice electric sharpener and it is pretty good. However, it never completely satisfied me in terms of its performance in certain aspects. It scratched some of my Wusthof knives and while leaving them sharp, they were not as sharp as I expected. Ergo, knowing Wusthofs quality, I decided to go ahead and splurge on this sharpener. Wow!! am I glad I did. My first experience was with a knife I felt was not as sharp as it could be, after reading the instructions and then running it through stage 2 (honing) for four strokes it is now scary sharp. This is quite an upgrade. The only caveats are, it doesn't do serrated or Asian knives. However, it does a fabulous job on the fine edge knives. Highly recommended.Want Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric Sharpener Discount?
I have owned 2 Chef's Choice knife sharpeners in the past which worked fairly well; however, they wear out relatively quickly especially for the cost. This sharpener on the other hand sharpens better and quicker than any Chef's Choice product I have owned and it's easier to use (sharpens both sides of the knife at the same time). I don't know about the longevity, but so far, an excellent product.Chicago Cutlery Ashland 16-Piece Block Knife Set

We really liked how this product looked in the picture and were impressed by the positive reviews on amazon. It looked quite good out of the box too, and we immediately thought it would be perfect for everyday wear. Now, "everyday wear" for me really means withstanding the dishwasher, and some of the pieces have done poorly in the dishwasher, showing signs of rust on several of the knives. The instructions warn you about using dishwasher soap with lemon in it (which we don't use) so it's a mystery about why they're rusting so fast. I think for the money, they really should be dishwasher safe. So, we're torn, because they look good and the weight is great for daily use, but having some of the pieces corrode after just a couple of weeks of use is upsetting. We're probably going to return them.We got this set for our weddingand it is great! Each piece is well weighted and heavy duty. We have been putting the pieces in the dishwasher and haven't had any problem with the finish on them they still look as great as the first day we got them. My only complaint is about the wooden tray...our first box turned out fine, but our second box we bought had a tray that was messed up in the box and had to be put back together. I have a friend who had gotten 3 different sets with messed up wooden trays. Took it back to the store to exchange it because we love the look and feel of the set so much and after about a week, it's already rusting again. for this based on all the reviews and was disappointed with how skinny it is...there is very little heft to it (and it's a bit small for my hand) which gives it the feel of a Dollar General special. But being as basic as it is, it works and if it doesn't fall apart or the finish peel off over the next decade then what more can you ask of it.Love the 2 stage pulling mechanism. Makes pulling corks VERY easy, even synthetic corks which are notoriously hard to pull. Am buying another one to give to a friend.I have been waitressing for many, many years. SureCutTM Extra-Tall Can Opener Black Medium
Ok so I always thought electric can openers were silly BUT I have gone through about 4 openers in the last year that didn't work well or broke so I thought give an electric one a try. I love it! It takes the lid right off no problem and there is no mess with the lid falling into the can. PERFECT PRODUCT. I LOVE AMAZON!I have had this for less than six weeks and do not use it often. I have noticed that the magnet sometimes drops the severed lid into the can and the blade snags on the label and tears it. A really good can opener would not do either of these. So far I have had no problem with it actually opening the cans.Buy SureCutTM Extra-Tall Can Opener Black Medium Now
This is a horrible opener.First, it doesn't always catch the can properly. You have to jiggle to get it to line up right. Sure cut my FOOT!
Second, it jerks when it's done opening the can, so usually it ends up splashing whenever I'm opening something that's liquidy.
After 2 frustrating months, this went in the garbage.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I am an avid home cook, and have been reading about knives for a while. From what I understand, there are basically three alternatives:Carbon steel knives don't hold their edge for long at all, but are easy to re-sharpen to a very fine edge.
Stainless steel knives hold their edge longer, but are harder to re-sharpen.
Ceramic knives hold their edge longest, but are most difficult to resharpen. Also, ceramic knives are fragile enough that you don't want to drop one, put it in the dishwasher where it might bang against other implements, or cut meat with bones, for fear of breaking or chipping the blade.
Like most home cooks, I've been making do with stainless steel for a while, but I was excited to get the chance to try and review a ceramic knife. Basically, this knife has worked well for me, and it's become my "go-to" knife for slicing and dicing vegetables. It's very sharp, and works fast. It slices cleanly and dices quickly. I like that it comes with a plastic sheath, since I was worried about putting a knife this sharp and this fragile in a drawer.
The Bodum santoku wasn't as revolutionary for me as for some reviewers -it's a little sharper than my chef's knife, but I can't slice much thinner or much faster, just a little better in both cases.
I didn't have the loose blade problem or the balance problems that some of the other reviewers experienced, but the blade problem is a concern. I assume Bodum will fix this in future models -if you are reading this review in the future, I would look for at least a few months of consistently good reviews.
Lastly, be careful -this thing is sharp. I had to warn my kids, who saw the white blade and bright colors and assumed that this knife was safer for young hands than Dad's shinier knives, but haven't had any other problems.
Update 9/30/11: Well, it was fun while it lasted -I ended up taking a chip out of my knife when breaking down a peach last week. It was my fault, not the knife's; I had been warned not to cut meat with bones, and on reflection, stone fruit like a peach is at least as risky. The knife must have chipped on the pit. On the other hand, it held its edge and remained my primary knife for fruit and vegetable chopping for nine months. On the gripping hand, I'm going back to my stainless steel chef's knife rather than buying a new one, so I suppose that while this was nice, it's not nice enough to make me want a replacement enough to pay for one. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It's not a real santoku knife, it's between a santoku and a western chef's knife. It's not as thin, and the added ridges are supposed to help food not stick to it i guess.
I have metal chef's knife, but after I got a metal santoku knife I started using the chef's knife less and less. I really liked the thinner blade and just the way it worked.
After getting this knife, and not seeing much difference (and it feeling very blade heavy), I got a kyocera ceramic knife as well for comparison because i didn't know if those were characteristics of all ceramic knives or just this knife.
Basically i think the Bodum and the Kyocera are competing in the same space so I will make the comparison.
-Bodum is not balanced, blade is a lot heavier than the handle, but this makes little difference when using the knife (Kyocera is balanced).
-The handle on Bodum is really really nice and nonslip (better than any I have used).
-The Bodum blade is too thick (thicker that kyocera).
-The corners are not rounded so they may be week an chip (Kyoceral rounds off the corners).
-Can't sharpen knife (Kyocera can be sent to be sharpened for free, and they also sell sharpeners).
-Handle colors make it look like a toy for kids.
-Included sheath is really a nice touch (Kyocera didn't include).
So I don't think I can recommend this knife. It's not bad but there are better out there.
EDIT (Nov 2011):
I hate this knife. I can't get over the bad balance and that it takes so much effort to cut (since it's thick at the spine). It's still in my kitchen but I never use it. I have multiple Kyocera ceramic knives which I love.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I opened the box and took out the knife. Bigger than I expected, and interesting looking... I put the knife into its enclosed plastic sheath. Nice fit. I pulled the sheath back off, and...The blade came out.
?!
I stood there and stared at it for a second... was it possible this was supposed to happen? Surely a knife this expensive wouldn't fall apart the very first time it was taken out of the box, right? Alas, it's true. The bottom of the knife, the part that's supposed to be in the silicone handle, was covered in dried brown glue, but not in any way sticky. I promise I didn't do anything rough to the knife or pull the sheath off in a rough or reckless manner. Okay, so we weren't off to a good start.
I washed the knife (instructions suggest handwashing in mild detergent. If you must use a dishwasher, make sure the knife can't hit against anything, or it could chip). And in case you were wondering how sharp it is, I managed to slice open two of my fingers while I was washing it. But that could be attributable to my being an idiot. It's deceptive-it looks a lot like plastic, so I kept thinking it couldn't possibly be that sharp. Looked more like a toy than a deadly weapon. Famous last words.
Anyway, it is sharp. I first used it to attack an apple, and found I was able to slice with terrific precision and ease. I could make very thin slices with no "back and forth" dragging action. I never owned a knife that felt as precise as this one. The handle has a good grip (made of silicone) and is not as bright green as it appeared on my screen.
Then I tried it on Italian bread, and it did not fare well. Took a lot of "sawing" to break through the crust, and then flattened the bread as I cut through. But this knife is not meant for bread, specifically. It's meant for meat, vegetables, and herbs. And for those purposes, it does cut quite well.
So I'm left with a mixed review-I sure wouldn't be happy to spend the retail price and then have the darn thing fall out of its handle, but I think the blade itself and the design are good.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This knife is extremely sharp, has good balance and a grip that feel good in your hand. Unfortunately, the tip broke off on the 3rd use while trying to cut chicken breasts on a wooden cutting board. I contacted Bodum customer service and they told me to send an email and photo to their sales department. I did that and 2 weeks later, I have not heard back. I sent it a 2nd time and we'll see if they get back to me this time.I also own a set of Kyocrea ceramic knives and so far they have not chipped. However, Kyocrea rounds off the tip, so maybe Bodum should consider doing the same.
I do like Bodum and I have purchased other products from them. I especially like their citrus juicer. But based on the fact that it chipped so easily and also because customer service seemed lax on this issue, I can't give the product more than 3 stars.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program In terms of looking at this item and determining does it do the basic job, the answer is yes, but that doesn't tell the whole story. The blade is plenty sharp (though if it loses its edge, it may be harder to sharpen than steel would be) but the balance feels, well, off. Without having seen Alton Brown (Good Eats: The Complete First Season), I knew enough about handling knives to know that if a knife doesn't feel right and doesn't feel balanced when handling it, you are likely not going to be using it as efficiently as you could. You may strain your muscles more than you would otherwise have to and not be able to make the knife cut as easily as you would hope.Beyond that issue though, the handle for this knife doesn't seem to be well mated to the blade. In handling this knife, you feel as if the handle might come off with little or no effort. If you aren't careful you could literally have the knife blade go flying out of your hands. Personally, that doesn't inspire confidence in being able to rely on one of these knives on a regular basis.
If the manufacturer made some improvements, I could see this item becoming more highly rated. For now, I'd advise caution and would probably recommend looking at other similar items.
YoshiBlade Knife, Ceramic
I'll admit I was expecting miracles based on TV ads, the packaging, and reviews I saw online. All I can say is, you get what you pay for, and this is only a $19 knife. My first clue that this wasn't the end-all came from the package insert. The list of what NOT to do with this knife is twice as long as what you can do. You can't cut with it against just any surface, so my glass cutting board was out. You can't twist or rock the blade for fancy chopping, and you can't press on the side of it (like when you smash/peel garlic) My Yoshi did not quite slice a tomato like butter, the way the TV ads show. The short blade also makes it impractical for larger potatoes, onions, etc.
That all said, once I got over the limitations I find I reach for it often to cut up smaller things like green onions, chili peppers, carrots, etc. It works just fine and is definitely not a bad little knife for the price. You just have to be careful with it, because the ceramic blade is fragile if mishandled.I received the Yoshi Blade knife in June of this year, used it normally for vegetables and fruits, and then yesterday, September 23rd, 2010 it breaks inside the handle. I call customer service to explain that I have only had it for 2 1/2 months, and all I get for a response is "the knife is out of warranty." Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Are you for real? Defective product! Even more defective customer services (if you can call it that!)
My wife made the unfortunate mistake of buying another Yoshi Blade and the blade chipped in less than 2 weeks!!!!!
If there was a rating one could give allowing for MINUS STARS, I WOULD RATE THIS PIECE OF TRASH THAT WAY!
DON'T BUY THIS! YOU'RE WASTING YOUR MONEY!
For anyone reading this post who thinks it is somehow contrived, I can assure you it is NOT! Read the part about POOR customer service from Yoshi Blade, and you will know why I wrote the article to begin with. It's never just about a product that breaks. It IS about how the company handles it!

Maybe I was lucky but we love our Yoshi Blade. Honestly for $19 how could you go wrong. If you look at all of pro ceramic blades you see that they are significantly more than the Yoshi Blade. Think of this knife set as an intro to ceramic blades. I have never seen the infomercial nor the ad on TV. So when I got it it was mostly a curious tool to use in the kitchen. All I can say is that this blade is amazingly sharp. It slices tomatoes, citrus, bread, cucumbers and other veggies amazing.I am a vegetarian so I have no experience with this cutting meat. It does slice through tofu very easy. The minus 1 star is sometimes it is very difficult to get the knife to start a cut. I believe it is mostly due to the design of the tip. If you have any skill in the kitchen with cutting foods you will easily figure out how to properly use this blade. Also, the peeler is more of a novelty and I have only used it with moderate success on carrots.
Always use a wooden or plastic cutting surface. Almost 100% of dulling of blades come from cutting on inappropriate surfaces such as granite, steel, mica; this is true for ALL blades not just ceramic. Check the web for videos showing this. Hand wash this blade, dishwashers will destroy it.
Pros:
+ VERY sharp when cutting mealy foods
+ Lightweight feels plastic but this is how a ceramic blade feels.
+ cleans easily (does not retain any smell from foods (even garlic))
+ price are you kidding me? A ceramic blade for under twenty bucks?
+ slicing and dicing is fantastic its like a razor
Cons:
Cheap cover ( you should use it to protect the blade in the drawer)
not too enthused with the peeler.
Tip needs redesigning
Not sure how you could sharpen it (although if you take care of the blade it should stay sharp a very long time)
Summary:
If you do not own a ceramic blade you should look at this as a fine intro to the class of kitchen utensils. I love mine so much I am buying a full set of pro models for our family for the holidays.
Thank you for reading my review.

This is one of the biggest rip-off's of the year. I have returned it because it arrived chipped and then using it once, it chipped while cutting a tomato! Yes, a nice soft tomato!!!! I asked for a refund not a replacement. Should know better than to order something that is touted on TV.Want YoshiBlade Knife, Ceramic Discount?
I purchased the Yoshi Blade today at a local store and after opening package I went to cut into a lemon and it was like I was using the wrong side of the blade. I then had a few days old green bell pepper and again there was ZERO cutting. I actually thought I had the knife blade inverted but that was not the case.I then took some $5 paring knives I got from Sams's and had sharpened with the Chef Choice XV and they sliced right through this older lemon and pepper. I tried other knives including a Henkels bread knife, WP Santoku, Chef's Knife and even an old "miracle blade" and they all were able to slice through the lemon and pepper easily.
I have not even tried the peeler as I have a Titan Peeler set that I am well pleased with.
Needless to say, my Yoshi is packed up ready to be returned to the store. I do not plan on exhanging it for another one.
