Swiss Rex Vegetable Peeler

Swiss Rex Vegetable PeelerI purchased a peeler similar to this one about 15 years ago, it finally bit the dust last month. I couldn't find a replacement in any of the retailers so I settled for the typical peeler every kitchen place sells. I paid more money for a piece of garbage that was dull and made peeling potatoes and carrots impossible. I finally found the Swiss Rex veggie peeler on line (which is the same one I originally had), purchased it for way less that the one I bought which was useless. I got it within one week and it works just as well as the one I originally had. Why people settle for the typical store bought ones, I don't know...

Purchased the Swiss Rex Vegetable Peeler.....This is the best vegetable peeler I have ever had. I purchased one many

years ago in Arizona....and could never find another one. It lasted for at least 15 years or so. So I decided to look on

Amazon to see if it was still around and could be purchased. I found it and ordered 2.... I a so happy to have them.

They were delivered promptly and were just perfect. Very happy with my purchase. Thank you.

Bought two of these peelers about 20 years ago at a home show. Our church was just getting into free community feeds on Christmas Day, and I was doing the butternut squash about 40# at the time. Business has picked up over the years last year we did 250# of squash. Currently we purchased the squash peeled, but the quality varies all over the lot from OK to rotten. Squash is very perishable once peeled. If you've gotta have a good squash, peel it yourself.

Anyway, back to the peelers. Put #1 in the kitchen drawer, put #2 on a nail in the floor joists in the basement over my workbench. Peeler #1 has been used to do Christmas Squash (hundreds of pounds), plus the normal potatos, carrots, etc. for 20 years! Peeler #2 is still hanging from the nail.

Recommendation? Buy two see how long it takes for you to use your second one! Yeah, there's no ergonomic 'cushy' grip and how to hold it is kinda an individual thing but it peels like a champ.

This peeler slices thru potato skin like butter! It's 10x better than any old "regular" peeler. I will use these until the day I can no longer cook! :D

Want Swiss Rex Vegetable Peeler Discount?

I have had one of these peelers for more than 10 years now. My brother brought it back from Switzerland for me. They peel virtually everything. I regularly use it for carrots, apples, and potatoes. It also works well for tougher skinned vegetables like butternut squash. Most peelers can't handle a butternut squash, but the carbon steel blade of these works very well, and they are constructed to be sturdy enough to handle the job. I bought new ones so that I had a backup for my old one and I wanted one for my neighbor because she didn't have anything that would peel a butternut squash.

The only negative of this peeler is that you should only hand wash it and dry the blade off soon after washing. Leaving the blade wet will cause it to rust, which can be cleaned off with a scouring pad if necessary. With the proper care this peeler will last many years.

Berghoff 7-Piece Knife Block with Bamboo Cutting BoardI purchased this knife block because of its stylish design and it looks perfect in my kitchen. Bullet AK47 Ice Cube Tray

Bullet AK47 Ice Cube TrayThis product is EXTREMELY deceiving. The actual mold is very small and it's hard as hell to get the bullets (which are as wide as a wooden pencil) out because they crack. The bullets aren't big at all, maybe 1/8th the size of a normal ice cube.

STAY AWAY!

the ice tray is very small and will look nothing like the pictures shown. it is designed in a very poor way and all the ice "bullets" will stick to one another. it is also a hard plastic tray and will probably break at least half the bullets when you try to remove them. i would have been much happier if it made a single bullet that was bigger and you could tell it was a bullet rather than long thin ice cubes.. don't waste your money!

Buy Bullet AK47 Ice Cube Tray Now

The product does not work as described; the tray is flimsy and does not give you anything that resembles the sellers pictures. The bullets will likely freeze together because the case will not seal properly. Pair this terrible product with worse shipping and you have a completely negative experience on your hands.

I bought these about a year and a half ago for my husband who is big time into hunting. The idea is cute...but the product just doesn't work. The bullets break when you take them out of the mold...and the few that don't break don't actually look like bullets. They look like long slivers of ice. I paid way more than they cost on Amazon...so unfortunately I am extra disappointed. I paid way too much...and the product doesn't work.

This shape is great for what my son needs to use it for...a narrow necked vase-like bottle that needs ice cubes, and the shape is just as advertised. The problem is that the top and the bottom of the mold do not keep together very well. Once I fill it with water and put the lid on, water drips out as I carry it to the freezer, because the top does not lock down tightly. It must be kept perfectly level (which is difficult to do in my freezer), or it will lose enough water to affect the shape of the ice. Except for that little glitch, the shape comes out as advertised, and freezing time is very quick.

Island Bamboo 14-Inch Sano Cutting Board

Island Bamboo 14-Inch Sano Cutting Boardtoo bad we couldnt find a larger one, Also very durable. Great buy for the money compaired to any wal mart.

Our board came as a gift. It looked nice, but after one light use we noticed that it was deeply cracked in several places around the boarder and in a couple of places right down the middle. We had not left it wet or otherwise treated it poorly. The board seems to be a very poor product. We're waiting to see if the company can offer us any help.

Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4

Gourmet Settings Non Stop 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4I have owned the Non-Stop flatware for two years and still love it. We use it for our everyday flatware and continue to get compliments on it from guests. I did have a few very small rust spots in the beginning but a little Bar Keepers Friend wisked them away and I have not had problems since. They are tossed in the dishwasher without a care. As with all my flatware when I hand wash them, I do prefer to dry them right away to keep water spots off. I love the feel in the hand. They look great with paper plates or china. Non-stop by Jet Set is a great buy.

I registered for these for my wedding and I loved them. Until after a few times in the dishwasher. My knives started to rust just like the other reviews described. I called the company and complained and they sent me two new entire sets(forks, knives, and spoons). They were so great. That's why I rated higher then I probably should.

I love the heaviness and the look of these. The first time I bought a set, though, I noticed one of the fork tines was bent, so I returned it and got a new set. When I got a different set, once I had opened them, I noticed that around the fork tines of a couple of the forks, the metal looked a little bent or weird. I haven't noticed any rusting yet, but if it does rust, I'm sure it's going to be around that part. Check the items before you purchase them. The 50-year warranty should cover the rusting, though.--Jacob's wife

UPDATE-Have them for over 2 years now and still look great, no rusting, I don't put them in the dishwasher and don't use lemon liquid on them.If anybody want to sell me their small forks, I will buy them I had lost a few.---I bought two sets a few months ago when they were on sale. I regret not getting one more set. All my friends notice and like them. They are heavy enough and feel like the more expensive sets. I am very happy with them and so far have no rusting problems. I did read somewhere that using lemon dishwashing liquid is not recommended for metal flatware, so I use the regular kind.

I have had these for 6 months. I first started noticing rust within 3 months. More than half the pieces have a spot or more. I try not to leave them in water, but there is water in the sink and dishwasher! My old silverware lasted 20 years with no rust. I will return and buy a different brand.

KitchenAid Triple Riveted 4-Piece Santoku with Sheaths

KitchenAid Triple Riveted 4-Piece Santoku with SheathsI actually bought these knives from Target for a few bucks more. So buy them here and save. I absolutely just loves these knives. They came out of the package sharp as can be. They are soo sharp and cut with such ease. I use them to cut vegetables. And I just love that I have a protective cover for them to store them safetly. The holster fits very snug over the knives, no jiggling around. I rated them four stars because I think the only improvement would be to have a 7 inch knife too.

These are wonderful! Well weighted feel & super sharp! Have used the smaller one much like a paring knife -slicing an apple, etc!

I don't understand some of the reviews on these knives. Mine are well made, sharp and just the right sixe for a smaller hand. The sheaths are a plus to help keep the edge sharp and from cutting yourself when reaching for the knife. I am thinking of buying a few more sets as hostest gifts and wedding presents. Kitchenaid always produces a quality product.

Bird's Beak Fruit Carving Knife Plastic Handle, 002

Bird's Beak Fruit Carving Knife Plastic Handle, 002If you do veggie/fruit carvings, you cannot possibly be proficient without THIS knife. And I don't mean this TYPE of knife; I mean this EXACT knife. Kom-Kom makes the sharpest edge bird's beak knife out there (tried many others), weighs about a feather, and is PERFECT for carving eyes, teeth, etc. in my opinion.

I also love how it makes precise cuts for making flowers and other fine cuts in hard rind fruit (e.g. watermelon, canteloupe, etc.) without any difficulty.

I like it so much I bought a second one just in case they stop making them. At $8, it's a steal.

Excellent quality, very nice design, tip helpful in creating small notches. Blade is flexible which is something I like. Very sharp out of the box.

I have been using the plastic tools that are sold at Halloween time for carving pumpkins, and my watermelon creations have been satisfactory. I longed for a better cutting tool, one that would give me clean lines. This knife did the trick. I keep it hidden now so than noone in my family uses it for something other than watermelon carving!

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch Edge Grain with Hand Grip

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch Edge Grain with Hand GripI bought this based on a recommendation in "Cook's Illustrated" magazine and season 2011 America's Test Kitchen equipment review video. I like the way it looks, it's a great size and thickness, and handles cutting very well, it has convenient hand-holds to lift and carry it. "Cook's Illustrated" said that the weight of the board kept it in place. My beautiful board, however, is not perfectly flat on either side, so it wobbles. I'm dealing with the problem the same way I have to for my cheaper cutting boards, non-skid pads underneath; not a great solution, but I'm keeping the board anyway. My package arrived crushed, the paper product information band torn off and crumbled laying beside the the board (how did that happen, I wonder). The packing tape was barely adhered to the box. What is happening to Amazon's shipping department, or do I blame a 3rd party...too much to think about, I just want to cut my veggies.

Two previous reviewers wrote they got cracked boards. Mine was not only cracked, but it was broken down the middle. The packaging was extremely poor! They did not try to package it properly; the board was placed in in big flat box, with nothing to hold it. Their loss percentage has to be high. They need a good dose of quality control!!

I, too, was interested in this because of Cook's Illustrated's review. I didn't order it from Amazon (it can be found cheaper elsewhere online), but the one I got in January 2012 is completely free of defects and seems to be everything that CI said it was. Highly recommended.

My wife turned me on this. And true to my nature, I did a lot of research before making a purchase. My instructions were to get a big durable cutting board. One that would not slide over the granite counter top. This cutting board weighs about 14 lbs and is 1 1/2" thick.. It isn't going any where. The instructions advise you to put 4 coats of mineral oil (That I bought at Wal-Mart for $1) prior to first use. A over night drying period and testing was under way. Solid, stable surface to work on and with a little care (mineral oil once a month) it will last a life time. Large enough to prepare the evening meal, and stable enough to insure safety with large knives.

Bakers & Chefs Dinner Forks - 36 pcs.

Bakers & Chefs Dinner Forks - 36 pcs. These are not high end forks, but they are nice. They're not cheap and do the job if your looking for some extra forks.

Ok ..... this is what I was looking for. I was throwing a party at my house and didn't want to use plastic forks. So I bought these. They are perfect, if you don't want plastic. They aren't something I would buy for everyday use, but for a big party, why not! I looked into renting forks and the place I was going to rent them from wanted .50 a piece. So, I just decided to buy them. These type of forks you would find at a fast food restaurant, nothing extra special, but they work. perfect alternative to plastic. I would not buy these to use everyday though.

Messermeister San Moritz Elite 9-Inch Bread Knife

Messermeister San Moritz Elite 9-Inch Bread KnifeThis is probably the best brea knife ever at this price. the only better knives I have tried are the Shun Classic and Shun Elite bread knives both have the same design as this one but are thinner and sharper but at %50 to %100 more money. when it comes to handles the messermeister have the best handles HANDS DOWN nothing feels as good in your hands as a messermeister

Bought this knife to continue my collection of the San Moritz knives, and I have to say it's an amazing tool. The knife is mildly heavy, however it is well balanced and feels good in the hand. The heft also increases the the knives' ability to easily and quickly slice through anything that's thrown at it. Overall a great knife, well worth the price.

Edgeware Counter Safe Deluxe Knife and Scissors Sharpener

Edgeware Counter Safe Deluxe Knife and Scissors SharpenerThe sharpening system seems to work pretty well, but for some scissors it can't sharpen the whole blade. Some scissors have one straight blade/handle (for the fingers) and the other blade/handle (for the thumb) is angeled. the handle on the sharpener prevents the angled blade to insert all the way into the sharpener. I had to cut off the handle (easy to do) which helps get most off the blade into the sharpener.

I have been cutting with dull knives for a long time because I was never sure how to use sharpening stones. Would complain to my husband once my knives were incredibly dull, and he would sharpen them. Got this item, it is so easy. I now sharpen all my knives easily, and just love cutting a tomato, and it slicing so easy. I have used it for my scissors too, and it works great. Would recommend anyone thinking of buying it, it is a great buy.

I bought this sharpener primarily for scissors, which it sharpened very well. I should mention that when I tried to sharpen scissors by pulling them across the sharpening rods they would bind, but when pushing them across the rods it worked well. The instructions say this is acceptable. What surprised me was how well it sharpened knives. With just a few strokes it sharpened all my kitchen knives, with less effort than my ceramic sharpening rod. The counter protector is a plus.

Sportsman Manual Meat Grinder with Pulley

Sportsman Manual Meat Grinder with PulleyI bought this buffalo meat grinder to make food for my dogs, I put 4 pieces of chicken with bone , it went through the chicken like nothing, easier to clean , easy to operate, the price from tool king was great, thank you tool king

I have been grinding deer meat with the sinew in it for the last 10 years or so. I had been using a #22 grinder. The price was cheap enough on this one, especially for coming with not only one pulley but TWO pulleys. It goes thru the meat better than my #22. I have it hooked to a 1.5HP electric motor, and it does just fine. I have 3 complaints, and 1 or 2 of them is/are operator error on my part, but it needs to be addressed: First, when operating with an electric motor, some of the paint/metal shaves off the drive shaft in the back of the unit. It collected mostly in the back of the unit and did not contaminate much of the meat, but what little was contaminated, I just threw that away. Second, the cutter in the front of the unit will load up with sinew from the deer meat. I say this is operator error, because I don't think any chopper is ever going to completely chop up that tough sinew. I just stopped the grinder every time the meat started slowing down coming out of the barrel and cleaned the cutter out and started over. The blades on the cutter do need to be touched up when grinding deer meat. Last, because this unit has bearings with it, the bearings need to be cleaned out after use. MAKE SURE TO COMPLETELY DRY OR THEY WILL RUST. I washed my bearings and put them in the silverware part of my dish rack. I didn't get all the water out, and they rusted. I put them in my tumbler with walnut media and shined them back up. I'm going to put cooking spray or cooking oil or something similar on them next time so they don't rust. As for the grinding itself, I imagine with beef or some other meats, you won't have any trouble with the cutter clogging up, but that deer sinew or silver flesh/shine is tough stuff. I have been making homemade deer jerky, and this grinder is fantastic for this task.

We got this grinder to make our own dog food, containing chicken and carrots. I can't even do the grinding because it is so hard. My husband does it, but it takes hours and he is completely worn out before he's done. Lol, I guess on the bright side, he is building muscle without paying for gym membership. It does do the job, but we are definitely going to need to get a motor! As far as the timing on shipping, I was very impressed. It got here way before we expected.

Want Sportsman Manual Meat Grinder with Pulley Discount?

I bought this grinder to make pet food, and chose it because of reviews that said it could be used to grind bone-in chicken. It does this job very well. I cranked it manually and while it stalled when first cracking the bone, the rest was relatively easy. The grinding plate is fine enough that I don't have to worry about pieces of bone that are too large for my cat. Cleaning the grinder takes some time, but I am particular about cleaning items that come in contact with raw meat. It was challenging to get the small, stringy bits off the worm (auger). After all the smaller parts were clean and towel-dried, I rubbed them with vegetable oil and stored them in a zip top bag filled with rice to keep them dry. (I live in a humid climate.) Since so many reviewers use this grinder with a motor, I was worried that it might not be possible to grind meat and bones by hand. The grinder makes this fairly easy because of the large diameter of the pulley. Happy with my purchase, and the cat likes the homemade food.

The quality is fine and all the knives are held firmly in place until needed. Even the large butcher knives are secure. Definitely much better than the old way of keeping them in a drawer and using a knife block. You can see quickly which kind of knife you need.

I bought this rack after seeing my daughter's. It holds the knives well, was easy to mount and looks good. It is close to my kitchen sink so I can wash my knives and immediately hang them. Works like an oyster knife is supposed to work. Handle has a good grip and the blade is stout. Seems sturdy, like it should last a lifetime. The thickness of the tip makes it a bit difficult on some shells to get started.

I'll admit, I'm not sure how to go about picking the right oyster knife but this one wasn't for me. i wish the end was a bit pointier.

While a bit pricey, this knife has a handle that makes it safe to use and a blade strong enough to go through a lot of oysters. In addition, the blade is long enough to open the oyster and to go into the shell and sever the adductor muscle so as to remove the oyster. It must have been an appealing product, as a number of them disappeared from our recent oyster roast. I would recommend this to serious oyster aficionados.

Chefs Choice Trizor 8-in. Chefs Knife

Chefs Choice Trizor 8-in. Chefs KnifeI have an 8" chefs knife ,forged Trizor edge, and have owned it for about 12 years or so. It's not my only chef knife but I do have a fondness for it. When I purchased it Amazon was selling them for around $35, yes $35 NOT $135. I don't know why the average price was around a $100, but I bought it as a "try me" knife.

The fit and finish of the knife was on par with any of the well known German manufacturers, that is-excellant. I didn't like how sharp the spine or the back of the spine (the choil) were though and rounded them sand paper for comfort. The 8" knife is handle heavy. The balance point is just about where the handle fits to the bolster, although it tends to give the impression of being handle heavy when handling the knife. I use a pinch grip when I use the knife. The knife has a lot of belly, so if you prefer a straighter French or Japanese style profile you probably won't like it. I was not terribly impressed with the out of the box sharpness and as I recall there was some literature that came with the knife explaining it doesn't feel as sharp as it is. Ok?. I used it some and it wasn't really dull , but it was about average for out of the box German knife sharpness. I tried honing it on the finish wheel of a Chefs Choice 120 sharpener, still good not really impressed. Did sharpen it once as directed on the 120 --with about the same results. I should mention that I have used a 120 to quite acceptable result with Forschner knives, but they are thinner therefore would seem sharper. I finally hand sharpened this, and when I did I thinned the edge and reduced the bevel to 15 degrees or so. I use India and Arkansas stones and took it up through a translucent hard white. While not spectacular( and this could be due to my lack of skill as a sharpener) it was an improvement. I found the edge retention on par with German forged cutlery, but found it responded to "steeling" quite well on my ceramic rod hone. I almost always use it on a plastic cutting board. I've never put it in the dishwasher and and have experienced no issues with the handle turning colors, or the blade reacting. Because of it's large belly I use the knife mostly for herbs and processing garlic. It is a great "rock n roll" knife. I have found it competent for most average home cooking tasks, though I prefer my Japanese knives for most any given task. I gave the knife 4 stars because I think for what I paid for it and it's never let me down it was a 4 star value. At it's current price however, I'd give it 2 to 3 stars. It's really on par with well known German cutlery for all intent and purposes. It's a thick, heavy, round belly knife that will stand up to most home use, but excell at none. The in thing now seems to be toward a more light thin sharper knife that doesn't have a finger guard. In this price range there are many many knives to choose from, but his is the only one that's American made. For the money I really think the average home cook can do quite a bit better.

This is the only quality knife still being made in America that isn't custom made.Yes it is expensive, but much like and All-Clad pan you're going to pay more for a high end product made in the USA.The steel is of an excelent quality with a Rockwell hardness of 60.To put this into perspective Wustof and Henkels are about 56.To get the best out of this knife avoid Chef's Choice sharpeners as this knife is wasted on the average edge they can put on it.You can read An Edge in the Kitchen: The Ultimate Guide to Kitchen Knives -How to B Them, Keep Them Razor Sharp, and Use Them Like a ProInside the Author describes the quality of this knife.

We ordered these knives (8and 10-inch) for our restaurant kitchen back in 2006 and it was a decision we quickly came to regret: they didn't hold up well at all under the stress of daily use and we were out a lot of money. The handles discolored after the first month and being unbalanced (blade-heavy), they made your fingers ache after a while. On top of that, we spent more time sharpening and resharpening them than actually cutting. In the end our frustration led to throwing them out. We didn't feel right donating them to a charity kitchen given their inherent flaws.

Chef's Choice is a low-end sharpener company that delved into the knife business a few years back and garnered a handful TV-celebrity chef endorsements. This is a knife for the Rachel Ray/Emeril/Paula Deen crowd at best. Since then, that crowd has moved on to even cheaper knives. Blade hardness is only one of many factors that comprise a good knife. That 60Rc rating that hacks like Chad Ward ("An Edge in the Kitchen") promote actually works against you in the kitchen because you're ALWAYS sharpening this knife because it's so brittle! But Chad likes it so much his book is virtually a Chef's Choice marketing pamphlet. Chad's book only recommends you use three knives in the kitchen, and of those three, he finds no value in Santoku knives. That alone should tell you he's a reporter, not a chef, and his book is composed of outdated and misguided information about the knife industry.

Take it from someone who's worked in professional kitchens and restaurants for a lifetime, skip this knife and skip this brand. Your hard-earned money is better spent elsewhere. Also, I could care less where my knives are made. There's a reason why the best knives have been made in Germany and Japan for centuries -because they're the best at it and have been in the business with chefs since the beginning.

My first impression was that it looks nice but the knife handle broke away from the blade with the first cut into a dense cake. Do not buy this item unless the only purpose it to put it into a display case and it will never actually be used.

The handles slipped and did not hold up when cutting the cake. I thought that the handle would fall off of the knife before we finished serving the cake. The set was pretty and matched the cake topper (which was great), but functionally the quality was terrible. I do want to note that the item was shipped to me quickly and my contact with the vendor was good.
