Victorinox Cutlery 10-Inch Cimeter, White Fibrox Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 10-Inch Cimeter, White Fibrox HandleI needed a good knife to cut my meat and slice up meat. This knife is great. It stays sharp and I rarely have to sharpen it. I like the angle on the top of the knife because when you are cutting fat or silver skin, it gets right underneath it. It is a very large knife though. It can also double as a small fighting sword!

I was only missing this type of knife among my repetoir and now I am complete. Forschner makes a great product at a great value and this is no exception!

Wusthof Hardwood Knife Blocks

Wusthof 35 Slot Storage Block, CherryJust bought this block from another source (Sorry Amazon). It appears to be quite well made but does have a small amount of chipping at 2 of the openings. I figure it will get a lot worse before I ever worry about it. Quite heavy, sits well on the Formica counter-top and doesn't leave marks if you drag it around. Since I have no experience with it, I'll confine these remarks to the slot sizes (which I sure wish the manufacturer would put in with the other data). There are 9 horizontal rows, and I'm calling the top row "1" and the lowest (vertical) row "9". All slots are slightly over 3/16" high (thick?) except as stated. All measurements are in inches so when I err it's understating the slot size. I suspect the damn thing has metric dimensions, which is an abomination of a different color. I'm knocking it down from 5 to 4 stars because of the kinda narrow slots on rows 2, 3, and 4. They could provide more variety here.

1. 9/16 square; 2 9/16; 2 9/16

2. 2 1/16; 2 1/16; 2 1/16

3. 2 1/16; 2 1/16; 2 1/16

4. 2 1/16; 2 1/16; 2 1/16

5. 1 1/2; 1 1/2; 1 1/2; 1 1/2

6. 3 9/16; 1 5/16 X 1/2

7. 1 5/16 X 3/8; 1; 1 1/2; 2 1/16

8. 1; 1; 1; 1 5/16; 1 7/16

9. All 8 slots are 1" high and on 27/32 centers.

That's the best that I can do with a cheap tape but it's still better than Wusthof did for ya, eh?

This is the biggest knife block I could find and I love it. It is very well made, stable, and well designed (knife positions). Many other large blocks have the cleaver slot at the very top, even thought most cleavers are only 6 inches long while chef's knives are up to 14 inches. This block also fits many knives into a relatively small space. I have had blocks that only hold 10 or so knives and this one is not that much bigger. The only competition for this block is the Henckel 22 slot-block (with the cleaver on top) and the chef knife slots are not wide enough to hold serious chef knives (read the reviews for yourself).

My only complaint for this block (so really a 4.5 rating) is that it has slots for 5 paring knives. Who needs 5 little knives? This is a serious block for serious cooks who generally use larger knives, so I feel that 3 little slots would be sufficient. After all, a little knife can fit in a large slot, but not the other way around. I have modified mine a bit to hold more large knives, but everyone likes different knives.

The only thing better than this block is finding the knives to fill it with.

Buy Wusthof Hardwood Knife Blocks Now

A remodel of my kitchen left me with no place for the magnetic knife holders that I have used for years. Not having used a knife block before, I wasn't sure I could find one large enough for my blade collection. I picked this one from a large selection on Amazon and I find it perfectly satisfactory.

The block is heavy because there is a lot of wood but it is no larger (and thus no heavier) than it needs to be. There are slots in multiple sizes and the depth of the top slots is adequate for my 12" knives. Only the cleaver slot is too short. Asian cleavers may fit within it; American cleavers will not.

Fit and finish are excellent. All the joints are tight and the wood is smoothly sanded and finished for water resistance.

I still long for my magnetic bars but this has proved to be a fine substitute. Those with lots of knives can order it with confidence.

This is a solid well-made knife block which saved me a lot of precious drawer space. It's great not to have my sharp paring knives clattering around in the silverware drawer, damaging their edges or my fingertips while scrounging around. Plenty of room for spreaders and other utility utensils. The vertical spacing is a bit narrow. The handles of some of my larger knives (and cleaver) bump the adjacent row causing them to rest at a slight angle. Not a big deal unless you're a neat freak. I was annoyed that my block came coated with dense hidden sawdust on the inside of the slots. I had to remove and clean all my knives, then used compressed air to blast out the dust.

Want Wusthof Hardwood Knife Blocks Discount?

I bought the 25-slot without the swivel.

This block is a great value and reasonably made. A little rough on the underside but who is going to see that. I also noticed the MADE IN CHINA sticker on it as reported by another reviewer but that does not detract from its functionality.

It was purchased to go along with a 14 piece Wusthof Gourmet set that I bought, along with 8 Wusthof Gourmet steak knives and some Wusthof scissors, sharpener, etc. All together I think I only had a few slots left. Unlike another review that must have had some wider handle steak knives, the 8 Wusthof steak knives fit perfectly.

On the downside, I guess I was surprised at the mismatch between the size of the slots and the size of the knives I ended up with in my "set". Everything fit, but often in a slot that was 2X larger than needed.

I did notice that the 12" roast carver knife when installed in the longest slot (on top) was touching my granite counter top. So that knife had to go into a drawer. I suppose if I had bought the swivel version, that extra raised space would have helped. Still, the block is actually about 11-1/2" at its longest, and my 12" roast slicer blade is more like 12-1/2". So beware on your extra long blades if you don't have the swivel base.

For the Amazon low price, I can't complain.

Kotobuki Cheese Knife with Wood Cover, Brown

Kotobuki Cheese Knife with Wood Cover, BrownVery sharp knife with a handy little cover. I just leave this in the picnic basket, so I don't have to go digging for it when I want it. Very pretty little knife, and it works well. I could not ask for a better picnic item.

I'm not sure if I would consider this a cheese knife, but it is extremely handy nonetheless. I like this version over the other style (with a pointed tip) because it does not have the tendency to poke holes in pockets and such. I use this every day at work, and it makes any small job a breeze. Definitely worth the $10!

Chicago Cutlery WSF 7-Inch Bread Knife, Sheath Packaging

Chicago Cutlery WSF 7-Inch Bread Knife, Sheath PackagingI wanted to return this item. It is defective as all of the Chicago Cutlery Knives I purchased in this group. The rivets on all of the handles are not ground flush. They stick up. I have purchased and used Chicago Cutlery Knives for over 30 years and never seen inferior quality such as these. I wasn't allowed the 30 days after I received it. The 30 days from the date of purchase was used. It is still new and in the orginal package. Please advise. I would like replacements. Thanks, John

Chef's Choice 250 Diamond Hone Hybrid Knife Sharpener, White

Chef's Choice 250 Diamond Hone Hybrid Knife Sharpener, WhiteAfter being really disappointed in the local knife sharpening availability and asking all my friends who they use (turns out most of them are not as concerned about sharp knives as I am) I turned to electric sharpeners after a friend mentioned he uses one in his business for blade cutters. I started researching, wanted to purchase the model 220 but with little availability, I decided on the 250. I am very happy with this unit. First off, I watched a number of You Tube videos about using electric sharpeners, very helpful. I carefully read the instruction manual, also, very helpful. There is a slight learning curve, but after sharpening 4 chefs knives, I was able to cut paper easily but most incredible was the ability to slice tomatoes to a very thin less than 1/4 inch cut. There are a couple of limitations to the unit. Can't use it on ceramic (I don't own any) and you won't get as great a result with Japanese style knives, but there are other models that will do the trick. My Victornox and Henkels are wonderfully sharp. Again, watch the videos, take your time, read the instuctions. A great product, assembled in the U.S.

I don't sharpen good kitchen knives as a career, so the big expensive sharpeners were not for me. My interest was a good sharpener that did not ruin my very good German, French & Japanese blades. The really cheap sharpeners would grind my knives down quickly yes, exactly what the local guy with the old grindstone did when given a cheap test knife. This CC 250 sharpener fit my requirements fair price, good sharpener. And if it hadn't or wears out too quickly, then my investment in this sharpener was not high enough to cry over. As always, Amazon shipped & delivered quickly. The sharpener has proved itself with all my blades & it's a keeper. The only downside is that the CC people will replace it with a new model with is not as good as this but will come in different colors & will be advertised as improved because colored sharpeners work better.

Good product, does what it says it will do and does it well.

I must admit that I, personally, am very stingy with 5-star ratings.

A 4-star is usually about as high as I will go unless the product is exceptionally great.

If I could have I would have given this item a 4 1/2 but, obviously, that is not possible.

This is one of those items that you buy, try it out once and then try fo find something better. I actually have a non-electric hand held version of this and they both sharpen part of the blade. This electric one didn't have enough power to keep the stones turning when the knife approached the tip of the blade. I used this on a variety of blade types and found that on the larger blades, it didn't sharpen about an inch of the blade nearest the handle. It might be a "Chef's Choice" but it's not mine.

Wüsthof Classic 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife

Wüsthof Classic 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku KnifeGreat for chopping. Perfect weight and well-balanced. Feels good in the hand. A joy to use. A go-to knife and a kitchen staple.

It's sharp! Cuts through stuff like butta'. In fact, I almost lost a nail using it (due to operator carelessness, not the knife's fault).

Wish I would have ordered one of these for chopping and slicing stuff (rather than relying so much on the chef's or pairing knives to cut stuff like veggies) sooner.

Now I see why this is considered a "must have" in any knife collection.

Individual Steak knife Pro-Series II Single Steak knife

Individual Steak knife Pro-Series II Single Steak knifeThese arrived lickety-split. The quality is good. They are not as awesome as the knives in the Ergo Chef Pro Series 8 knife set that I bought from Amazon two weeks ago but they are good and a good value. I spent a sick amount of time reviewing all the different steak knives I could get and I really wanted the not serrated German ones that cost over $40 each but in the end, well, I got six of these for less than one of those and they are good quality and I'm happy.

They appeared to me to be slightly larger than I expected from the photo. The knives are 9.3" long and the blade is 0.8" wide where it meets the handle. The handle is made of a slightly shinier material than the Pro Series knives. The balance is good. Yea, whatever, they're knives. Get 'em.

Dexter-Russell 8" butcher knife

Dexter-Russell 8' butcher knifeevery week i have to use this knife to cut about ten to twelve pounds of beef, few strike on the sharpening steel, its get you going with no problem, it comes to a point you need to use a waterstone,just give a few,and take good care of it after use,nothing forever,don't need those fancy stone that they created those to make your money or for those very professional or very large volume of usage,just like on time to give your car oil change and don't abuse it during or after used.

4 stars because this knife seemed a little pricey to me but the quality is definitley there. Handle feels good and the blade looks excellent. Like i said 4 stars only cause of the price.

BOSKA Holland Stainless Steel Cheese Hatchet

Boska Holland Monaco Collection Stainless Steel Cheese Hatchet for Hard CheeseNice knife for presentation. Does the job though it is not especially sharp, I found I still needed to push down harder than I thought I might need to slice. But would still recommend it.

It should have been a lot larger. Hard to get two hands on it. They must make small cheese blocks in Holland. At least it is not made in Communist China. It is more of something you would put at a dining table for everyone to cut their own slice of cheese than in the kitchen. Steel quality and workmanship are outstanding. Everyone needs one.

Oneida Splice 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Oneida Splice 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8Thanks Amazon for bringing this product to us...this is a very nice set of flatware that I had not seen in the stores. The pictures do not do the set justice. There is a brushed appearance to a portion of the handles and a shiny portion as well. For me, the true test of flatware is the weight. I don't like flimsy, lightweight flatware--and this set has a very comfortable weight and feel in your hand. It's a must buy.

Looks great, hefty but not heavy. Seems to do well in the dishwasher. Perfect for our everyday use.

The knives are a bit longer than the rather small space in the drawer divider.

They are nicely suited for everyday use and could be used for special occasions as well.

Shun 11-Slot Bamboo Block

Shun 11-Slot Bamboo BlockNo one ends up with just a couple of good Japanese Kitchen knives. I had just bought several expensive knives and my old block just wouldn't fit the larger blades of the Japanese knives. This one was made for the wider knives. Mine holds a couple of gyutos, a Banno Bunka, Nakiri, 2 pettys, and I measured it and it will house my new Hiromoto Sujihiki slicer, the longest one.

I like the slanted angle and the arrangement of the slots makes for easy entry and removal without other knives gettng in the way.

Good price at about $60 as I believe it sold for about $90, although I dont think I would buy it at that price.

The best feature is that it will hold 4 WIDE CHEF type knives....most others don't

And the HORIZONTAL layout is easier on the blades...won't dull them.

The other one I have is vertical and the blade road cuts against the block when you withdraw the knife.

As I slowly replace my old Sabatiers with new Shuns I sprung for their block. I've actually never owned a "knife block" before so I have nothing to compare this little bamboo beaut to but I am impressed by its ability to both sit on a counter and hold knives of different sizes all at the same time. Mine came with a discreet Shun logo on a brushed aluminum plate pressed onto the lovely bamboo. Some block!

Buy Shun 11-Slot Bamboo Block Now

I first purchased a J.A. Henckels International 10-Slot Knife Storage Block from Amazon to hold my 4 Shun products: honing steel, 8'' chef's knife, 6'' chef's knife, and a 5 1/2 inch Santoku. Well, I was unpleasantly surprised when I found that I could not fit those three Shun knives because of the very small holes in the Henckels block. So, I reluctantly spent three times the price of the Henckel block and ordered the Shun 11-Slot Bamboo Block. The reason I give it only 3 stars is because I simply don't feel it is worth the price at which I paid, especially what it is valued at full retail. When you compare this quality to the quality of the actual Shun knives, it just doesn't fit in the same class. However what are my other options?

I have done research, and I think there may be a correlation between the use of magnetic strips with Shun knives, and their tendency to chip. So I decided a block was the best route. There are not a lot to choose from that will fit the wide Shun knives, so this was kind of my limited option. Here are the main points I see to judge it as not being worth the money:

-Packaging: Although this isn't the biggest deal, when you look at high-end companies and their products, they are presented well at every step. This block came in a completely plain cardboard covering simply to add a little protection. Not an original Shun box or anything.

-There was a little piece of paper with a description of the block, and let me tell you, IT WAS ATTACHED VIA A LITTLE PIECE OF SCOTCH TAPE ROLLED IN A CYLINDER SO THAT IT WAS DOUBLE SIDED. You know, the most cheap way you could attach something like that. I mean, it's almost as if it was a used product that was simply repackaged.

-Quality in general. I am a meticulous person when it comes to high-end things. This is not high-end. It's not like it's terrible, just not what I would expect to see as Shun's leading Block to sell with there AMAZINGLY HIGH-END KNIVES.

Anyway, until I see a better option I would buy again. Just can't give it more than 3 stars.

This item was sent as a gift. The original item arrived and the 'Shun' plaque on the front was glued on crooked. We tried to fix it ourselves but couldn't get it to budge. We requested an exchange, and the replacement item was actually worse. It was strangely larger than the original (significantly), it had several cut marks on it, and the seams where the pieces come together were not finished well. Overall, the quality was disappointing. Since the only problem with the original item was the crooked plaque on the front, we decided to keep that one and return the replacement item instead of the original. We will make another attempt to fix the crooked plaque ourselves, since the block is not terrible otherwise. Strange that the replacement item was so much larger (would not fit in the gift box that the original was sent in), and the workmanship was so shabby. We love our Shun knives, so we were surprised and disappointed by these quality issues.

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Asian Cook's Set

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Asian Cook's SetThese are great knives. I use these two everytime I am preparing a meal. I've owned them for almost five years now. I bought a generic honing steel and a few passes each week and the blades have stayed sharp longer than anything I've ever owned. The gaps on the side of the blade really do seem to stop slices from stickign so much to the blade. Still happens some, especially with something like a tomato.

Some people have asked me if they are slippery with wet hands, being all metal and the answer is not at all. The brushed handles are textured and they never feel loose or slippery even when my hands are wet from washing stuff or handling meats.

The little W logo is attached by glue and that came off. Other than that, they've been flawless. I've even thrown them in the dishwaher once in a lazy while. I think the heat from the dishwasher is what unglued the logo.

The brushed steel look is just very classy and not ultra-modern-although it might fit well in that style too. I like it much better than the everyday-black handles. After five years, I have no desire to buy a replacement. These were worht the investment.

Knork Matte 20-Piece Flatware Set, Silver

Knork Matte 20-Piece Flatware Set, SilverThe description for this product is incorrect. Knork makes either an 18/0 or 18/10. For this price, this is the 18/0. The other is twice as expensive. I own this product in the latter, better quality version and love it. I am sure the 18/0 is fine as well, but people should be informed about their flatware before buying. I like the weight of the product, the ergonomic feel in my hand, and most of all...MY SILVERWEAR DOESN'T BEND! Held up to my old stuff, there is a clear difference in the luster. But don't take my word for it....

From FoodServiceWarehouse.com:

If a product has the number 18/10 located in its spec, there is 18 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel content. If the product has an 18/0 construction, there is 18 percent chromium with zero nickel matter. The 18/10 and 18/0 specifications are simply figures that illustrate the percentages of chromium and nickel content present in the stainless steel. Chromium is a hard metallic substance that helps increase product hardness. Nickel is defined as a silvery metallic element that helps resist corrosion.

18/10

* Brilliant luster

* Rust-resistant material

* Durable construction

* Easy to maintain

18/0

* Soft shine

* Zero nickel content

* Economical design

* Subject to staining

For years I have heard my husband's complaints about our cutlery. "It's off balance, it falls off the plate, it falls out of my hand..." Kind of tongue-in-cheek, my sister and I were looking online for cutlery for the disabled (no, he isn't) and came across the 'Knork' cutlery. I ordered this set and now my husband won't use anything else. I have to say I like it too. It has a silky finish and a good weight. The fact that one utensil can serve for most meals is a bonus, but I especially like the way it looks. I can heartily recommend it!

We first encountered Knork flatware at a local restaurant. We then purchased 3 sets and are very happy with the quality and functionality of the flatware. You can cut a steak with the fork. The ergonomics are great. Nice, substaintial, heavy feel. A high quality product.

While the 18/0's have no nickel to prevent corrosion, my 20 piece Knorks have never rusted. Of course, it helps that I don't leave my dirty flatware lying in pools of dirty water in my sink! If you're lazy, you might want to go with the 18/10's. For those of you who clean as you go, these are just fine. Clean them before you go to bed, place them in your rack and they'll go rust free forever.

Being that the chromium gives the flatware its hardness, you will find the 18/0's just as sturdy and hefty as the 18/10's. I prefer the matte finish so shine is not an issue (yeah, the nickel in the 18/10's impart a brilliance that the 18/0's lack). While the $80 price range isn't awful, you can find a better deal from time to time. I found mine for almost half the regular price. Sometimes you just get lucky!

Want Knork Matte 20-Piece Flatware Set, Silver Discount?

I have purchase these directly through Knork.net, and got the 18/0 Satin Finish sets (x2).

Looking at their video and how they describe the no need for knife was the thing that really made me wanted these flatware. Very excited from the looks of it because it looks high quality.

I was very very disappointed when these went through the first wash cycle. Right out of the box, straight into my new dish washer (installed 2 days prior). Used Finish dish washing detergent, and had Jet Dry in also. When it was finish, I took the flatware out. It was still hot to the touch. What I saw amazed me. 3 out of the 2 sets (2 spoon and a fork) had rust stain on them. Wasn't there when it went in, but there when it came out. Used a cotton cloth to try to remove as much as possible. Have permanent stain on them now. 2 weeks in, spotted another spoon with the same issue. Been a Knork owner for 2 months now, and still spotting these issues once in a while and needed polishing after wash to remove these stains. For the price, I could have gone to Target and gotten something for $20 and would last longer than this. (Actually previous set was from Target (~$22) and lasted 5 years before seeing any issues).

I would not recommend this product to anyone because of my experience. But I can not discount the fact that the forks can cut through steak by rocking it back and forward. And I am sure this idea will be copied by some other brand and sells it at a fraction of the price. Wait for that.
