Proctor Silex Traditions 74388 Electric Knife, White

Proctor Silex Traditions 74388 Electric Knife, WhiteThis knife was purchased to replace an eons old Sunbeam Electric Knife. This Proctor Silex is heavy and too large in diameter not for arthritic hands and the first use to slice an Artisan Loaf of bread was such a trial that I gave it up and used my regular bread knife. This was not purchased from Amazon but rather from a local retailer and now I'm shopping Amazon to find a good electric knife which is what I should have done in the first place. Hope the Amazon reviewers of electric knives are telling their true opinions of the electric knives recently purchased.

This is a good knife. It doesn't seem to be quite as sharp as the old knife but has a good feel and is easy to use. The cord is permanently attached which eliminates the problem with our old knife of the cord disconnecting in the middle of a cut.

I bought this knife for Thanksgiving to replace my old one and it worked great!

It sliced my turkey just fine...

I thought it would just get put away and that would be it.

But I've been using it at least once a week for roasts/london broils etc.

I've used a Black & Decker slimline knife for 15 years. It still works better than the new Traditions electric knife by Proctor Silex. The new Trimline is heavier, and so large that I can't get my fingers all around it.

Also, it cuts with a ragged look. My turkey breast had ridges. I'll keep my old Slimline.

Kuhn Rikon Strawberry Knife Colori

Kuhn Rikon Strawberry Knife ColoriIt's a really cool little gadget for gadget collectors. It folds up into the handle so it avoids injury and protects the sharpness. Ingenious.

This is a pretty handy combo, combining both the huller and a knife. It hulls very well, even cutting through the stem area with ease. However, the hinge does not lock in place, so if you are not careful the huller is trying to close. The opposite is true about the knife end. That hinge is so tight that when I'm closing or opening the knife I'm afraid I might cut myself. Overall, with some care it really is a handy tool!

The stemming tool is really useful. However, I found that when I used the knife I sliced my hand to bits. It's extremely sharp, dangerously so, and when I sent one of these to my mom I warned her to just close that side of the tool and never open it.

This is the handiest tool for hulling strawberries and the built in knife is a bonus. I lost my first one and I'm buying it again because I can't go back to the old way of hulling strawberries. This tool makes it so fast. Love it!

Want Kuhn Rikon Strawberry Knife Colori Discount?

Yes, we're a house divided.

From my perspective, I like the huller at one end and the knife at the other. My husband's take on this is that it is just another knife and you can hull just as well with the knives we already own.

Bottom line, it's a really cute little knife. We don't have any more room in the knife block, so it's just as well that this folds up and stores nicely in the drawer.

Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility Knife

Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility KnifeOh my goodness! I LOVE this knife and use if for almost EVERYTHING! Where has it been all my life? I bought one for a friend also who has a catering business and she adores it. She feels the same way I do...where has it been all her life? May order different Wusthof knives in different sizes soon, too. Way to go Wusthof!

FAB knife! I originally bought it for cutting homemade bread (which it does soooo much better than reg. serated knives), and I find we use if for everything. Even strong enough to easily chop right through a hard peach pit like it was, well, something really soft I can't think of :).

My husband loves great knives so I got this for him for Christmas last year. He loves it as it slices foods like tomatoes that are easily squished with dull knives very thinly and easily. The downside is that you can't sharpen the knife because of its wavy edge. When cutting thick items like squash or watermelon it's difficult to get a straight cut. But it's a great knife!

I ordered this at Christmas. We've only used it 6 or 7 times but each time

was for a different type of meat and chopping vegetables (roast, whole chicken, steak, corned beef ....).

It works great. I would like to buy the little bit longer one also.

Want Wusthof Gourmet Wave 7-Inch Multi-Purpose Utility Knife Discount?

This knife is 16 cm. or 6 & 5/16" and should not be called a 7" knife! That said, it is a really nice little knife and very very sharp. I have several of the Wusthof reverse wavy edge knives and they never really get dull. However, they do wear down and need a occasional touch-up with a steel or sharpener. It is a really good size and shape for an all around utility knife; perfect for making sandwiches, it slices bread, cheese, tomatoes and meat all equally well. I did not think it would be any good for chopping but if you use a forward rocking motion it does a great job. I really like this knife and gave it 3 stars instead of 4 because I was disappointed by its smaller than expected size and light weight.

After using the knife for a week, I gave it to my girlfriend. It's just too short and I don't like the rounded tip, which reminds me of a child's safety scissors. If they made this in a 20 cm. size with a normal sloping and pointed Santoku style tip it would deserve a 5 star rating; as it is, 3 stars are plenty. However my girlfriend really likes it.

Samurai Shark The ONLY Sharpener That Sharpens Serrated Knives

Samurai Shark The ONLY Sharpener That Sharpens Serrated KnivesGreat sharpener for the price. Easier to use and store than a lot of other tools that claim to sharpen knives and scissors.

I have an avid knife guru for a husband. Let's just say that he has tried MANY sharpeners and always comes back to this one! He sought this one out again for a gift to his Parents!

This sharpener is very lightweight and compact which is great for camping or a survival situation. Due to the fact that its made of light plastic I'm not sure it is that durable.

If you want to sharpen a cheap knife or folding knife, then this is the perfect product and it does really work on serrated knives. What they don't tell you is that it shaves the blades to a sharp edge and this is not good for expensive kitchen knives. For the high end knives your better off using a stone or sending them in to be sharpened by a professional sharpener.

Joyce Chen 51-0220, Unlimited Scissor, Red

Joyce Chen 51-0220, Unlimited Scissor, RedI hide these in a kitchen drawer so they don't disappear to other rooms because they're just *perfect* for the kitchen. They're lightweight but sturdy, fit my hand comfortably, don't get slippery, have small tips to fit into odd places, and nicely sharp edges. Moreover, the red color makes them easy to find on a counter. Moved all my other kitchen scissors on. You'll like these.

These little scissors are unbelievable...they cut a whole chicken and open plastic packages equally. This is the second pair I have owned...the only need for replacement was due to my significant other misplacing the first pair.

Want Joyce Chen 51-0220, Unlimited Scissor, Red Discount?

I got these scissors as a stocking stuffer. When I told Santa they turned out to be no good for me, she was taken aback these were supposed to be great scissors, and good for lefties.

The scissors were good for a few uses, but in a short time the hinge loosened to the point that I can't cut anything with them left handed. Most "ambidextrous" scissors are regular right-handed scissors with no special design feature other than a tight hinge. When gripped right-handed, the hand naturally pushes the blades of the scissors together. When gripped left-handed, the blades get pushed apart. Obviously a loose hinge on supposedly ambidextrous scissors makes them no good for left handed people.

Even if I were right-handed and the loose hinge did not make the scissors useless (they do still work right-handed), I would still say that any pair of scissors with a loose hinge after only a couple weeks of normal kitchen use is simply junk. These scissors are expensive junk.

I've been using this grapefruit knife for several years and bought a new one only because I didn't bring my old one with me when I came South for the winter and discovered the difficulty cutting grapefruit without it. It does a very good job and does it quickly. It will dull slightly over time but you wouldn't necessarily notice it unless you compared it with a new one.

First off, I love pampered chef products! This is a nifty knife and does an amazing job! best grapefruit knife! Hands down!

This knife still requires another knife to section the grapefruit. I had a different pappered chef grapefruit knife that had a straight edge on one side of the knife and a curved knife edge on the other. It was more useful because it was the only implement needed. Bambu Cork Taper Cutting Board

Bambu Large 14-Inch L by 10-Inch W Cork Taper Cutting Board, NaturalI wanted a food safe, yet sustainably manufactured alternative to the plastic cutting boards that I have used for years. In researching options, I came across this cork cutting board. I confirmed with the manufacturer (Bambu) that they don't use adhesives or glues in the construction of these boards (they're molded with heat & pressure). This appealed to me a lot, so I decided to buy one and give it a try. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's easy on my knives, very easy to clean, and so far has been remarkably durable. I use it to chop and slice all manner of fruits and vegetables. I thought I would miss not being able to put the cutting board into the dishwasher, but I do not. The only caveat is that you absolutely cannot use a serrated knife on this cutting board. As long as you avoid this, I think that you'll be very satisfied with your purchase.

The small cutting board is about the size of a medium paperback book (one by say Christopher Moore), while the medium size one is a bit larger than your standard printer paper. The board quality is high with the innate cork quality of cushioning, which I find as a rather comfortable attribute. I don't know if it actually helps your knife blade remain sharper for longer (as stated by the manufacturer), but it does feel good while your chopping and dicing. They clean easily and dry fast, without lingering smells or cut lines into the flesh of the board, as you find in plastic boards.

Buy Bambu Cork Taper Cutting Board Now

Very good cutting surface; however, please be very careful that what you get is a board that is pretty much going to be used only on one side at a much smaller dimension than one might think unless you consider carefully what a Tapered Cutting board is:

Although it CAN be used on both, it has a radiused edge on one side which makes the board more stable but the effective cutting surface dimension lessens by about 1" smaller on each side. After measuring other boards for what I needed, the 8x12 seemed plenty big relative to regular square cut edged cutting boards, but this doesn't get used as often as it might as it is actually only about 6x10, which means it's too small for chopping most things. Also, the radius edge makes the food more likely to 'fall off'.

This is a good size for chopping 3 cloves of garlic or cutting open a fruit for a bar drink, but not for chopping a small onion or slicing a big carrot. I'd buy the bigger one for the 'medium' use I think

This is without a doubt the best cutting board I've ever owned. Actually, I own the small one, which I bought at a local co-op, and that's why I'm here now, buying the large one. So easy to clean, non-slip, easy to cut on, environmentally friendly, and even when I cut beets, they don't leave behind a stain. So happy I discovered these cork cutting boards!

Want Bambu Cork Taper Cutting Board Discount?

I wanted to find a BPA free cutting board and decided to try this one. I've had a lot of cutting boards in the past and none of them worked out for a variety of reasons. This one is great! I like the size for smaller chopping tasks. It's a great addition if you have a larger board which can be burdensome to pull out for smaller jobs. Bambu is a great company and makes wonderful eco friendly products.

The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory Compartment

The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory CompartmentAs a culinary student, I was required to purchase a knife case with triple zip compartments. I had two choices: Ultimate Edge or Mercer. From my understanding, Mercer supplies the majority of culinary schools with knives and tools. Since my school carries the Mercer brand, I was able to check it out in person before deciding which bag to purchase.

Although the Ultimate Edge case is a bit more expensive, I am glad I picked this bag over Mercer for several reasons:

Ultimate Edge's case feels more durable and holds its shape, whereas Mercer felt and looked floppy.

The interior of the Ult.Edge case is black and the slots holds knives firmly in place. In the Mercer bag, the interior is red, made of nylon, the pockets don't hold knives as firmly, and overall looked cheap.

The third zip compartment of the Ult.Edge bag has 3 mesh zipper pockets to hold additional tools in place. Mercer has its accessories compartment too, but I was too distracted by the tacky red interior to really take notice.

Although both bags are the same size, Ult.Edge's bag looks more sleek in my opinion. Mercer has 2 snap locks on the front to secure the bag, but Ult. Edge has a velcro padding to enclose the top handles.

If you're looking for a well designed, high quality knife case, then I highly recommend Ultimate Edge. I think for the price and the overall quality and functionality, this is the best one available.

I've been in the restaurant industry for over 13 years and have had a knife bag or two. This bag is by far the best one that I have ever seen! It holds all the knives and other tools that you could ever imagine putting in a knife bag. What I love about this bag is that it opens like a book, therefore being more compact and taking up less space on the prep table or on the line. Also, I love that this bag zips up, keeping all your stuff securely in the bag. Overall, I would honestly recommend this knife bag to anyone who has to bring a large number of knives and equiptment to work. Worth the money for sure!

Buy The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory Compartment Now

This is a great knife bag. I made my purchase predominantly because this was one of the knife bags I looked at that had multiple reviews, so I felt like I knew what I was getting. And when it arrived I was not disappointed.

To me, what makes this bag exceptional vs. other bags is that it so brilliantly organizes all of your tools, gadgets, knives. With three fully zippered sections, this bag really does open like a book. And compared to my past knife bags, it's nice to be able to fully close it, as compared to the roll style that does not. The two sections for your knives for me, as I am a Pastry Chef, were more then adequate. But the 2 sections combined have room for at least 18 knives. One thing to keep in mind is that one side of each "page" of the knife compartment is intended for larger knives with larger handles and has 4 slots, the opposite "page" has 5 slots for smaller knives. So that's a total of 4 pages to put knives and other long handled tools; tweezers, offset spatulas, tongs, etc. The two knife compartments each have a protective layer in between with velcro attachments so your knives/tools won't rub together.

The third section is for smaller tools. Both sides are lined with mesh. It opens up and on one side you have a fully zippered subsection for the larger of your smaller tools; microplanes, candy thermometers, bench scrapers etc. The other side has two fully zippered smaller sections that each run the length of the bag. Small offsets, peelers, paring knives, sharpies, whatever you need, you have plenty of room. The only thing I would change here if I could, was to have used a clear mesh material instead of black. It's a minor critique I realize, but it would have made it a little easier to see everything. Organization is really important in kitchens, and with this bag you will be feeling great that all of your prized tools are neatly stashed away.

Overall this is a great buy for the price. The material is heavy duty, and any professional chef knows the importance of this. It's a good size too, large enough for all of your essentials and much more, but not so bulky that you can't bring it on the line. The zippers are very durable as well, and the shoulder strap and handle are well made too.

Great work Ultimate Edge People!

This case far succeeded my expectations! The case is very durable and offers many slots for all you knives!!

The only negative I have is if you put a knife with a big handle in the selected slot, it will stretch it out to the point where you cannot fit a knife with a smaller handle (e.g. Chef knife to paring knife) but it doesn't really make a difference that would change my mind on the case! You just have to designate certain slots for bigger knives, its really NO BIGGIE!! Good work Ultimate Edge, only if you made a case for my Sniper rifle, then we would be set!! haha!

Adios

I ordered this knife roll for my wife, who is graduating from culinary school in December. The case comes with three zippered compartments, two compartments with slots/sleaves for knives, etc; and one compartment that contains meshed zipper compartments for smaller cutlery items such as garnishing tools. I like the fact that you can get alot of cutlery into this bag without having to unfold or open all of the compartments. The bag is made of a thicker nylon type material than the knife roll that came with her Wurstof knive set and seems like it will hold up very well.

I will update with my wife's comments once she receives it.

Oneida American Harmony 45-Piece Set, Service for 8

Oneida American Harmony 45-Piece Set, Service for 8American Harmony (also known as Arbor) has an elegant yet simple design, and is nicely balanced in the hand. It coordinates nicely with both traditional and more modern tableware. The finish holds up well through multiple trips through the dishwasher.

There also is a coordinating silverplate pattern called Silver Arbor, and a festive-looking gold-edged one called Golden Arbor. All are reasonably priced.

Original order contained several defective teaspoons (indentions along sides of spoons). E-mailed Amazon regarding problem they instructed me how to send items back. Returned three spoons which had the imperfections. After UPS had picked up package Amazon sent E-mail informing me the entire 45 pieces were to returned (this had not been mentioned in the two previous correspondences). After several polite but useless phone conversations with representatives in India I received another complete set of flatware ..... with yet more defective spoons included in the set. Attempted to contact Amazon by both phone and E-mail calls went to India once again and E-mail replies were generated form letters which did not address the issue at hand. Removed three good teaspoons from the replacement set and returned the remaining 42 pieces but not before Amazon sent me the incorrect return label which was going to cost me an additional $10.00 to have UPS pick up from my home had to drive six miles to hand deliver package to the "nearest" UPS substation. I will not purchase from Amazon again this was my third and final order. Customer service and communication is completely lacking.

Before buying, however, take a close look at the shipping rates. I paid $8 bucks to ship $4 worth of merchandise.

Made in USA Can Opener (Black)

Made in USA Can OpenerI volunteer at a no kill animal shelter and have sliced my hand open numerous times on the can openers we use to open the dog food. I have purchased numerous can openers, in hopes of finding a long lasting one that works. This is it! Every previous can opener has been made in china. This unit is hand crafted in the USA and it shows! It has by far out lasted other openers used at the shelter and works soooo much better. The engineering and craftsmanship is unparalleled. I highly recommend this and am purchasing several more to donate to the shelter. I know this seems like a lot of words praising a can opener but in all honesty for the price, you will never need another.

I use a can opener every day. I feed my dog wet (canned) dog food daily. My new "Made in USA" can opener is the best hand held can opener I have ever used. From the first time you'll notice the difference. It has a padded set of handles that feel good when squeezed, and it rolls around the lid with almost no effort at all. If you want a fine product, you should buy one of these.

This is the best kitchen applicance that I have bought in years. My previous can opener would only partially open cans or mangle the lids.

We bought one can opener that lasted twenty years. Then about eight years ago we bought another can opener. And another. And another. And another. We bought cheap grocery store ones. We bought regular ones and french cut ones. We bought very expensive designer kitchen appliance store ones. We bought and bought and bought and they broke and broke and broke. Or at least stopped opening cans which is the same thing as far as we're concerned..

Then we bought EZ Duz it. It took us a few cans to remember how to line it up and make it turn easily (remember it had been eight YEARS since our last decent can opener.) No it does not do the french cut where you don't have an edge that will slice you. So far we've never been cut by an opened can lid so we're not worried about that.

We just wanted to buy a can opener that would still be cutting cans months (years! we're aiming for years!) later. This one does. Thank you John J. Steuby Company!!!

Update six months later the can opener is still working. (that beats the box store brand already.)

I bought my **very last** SwingAway probably about 18 months ago. It was okay for a few months, but then began to perform about as well as those 3 or 4 dollar can openers that you toss into the cart at the grocery store to get by with 'til you get to a department store and pick up a new SwingAway. In other words, absolute garbage. I really had thought that I must have somehow damaged my SwingAway, because who the H E double hockey sticks has EVER heard of a bad one??? I've just turned 46 and I'd never seen it or even heard of it my entire life.... 'til I bought the last one, which I now know thanks to many wonderful fellow Amazon users is what it used to be in name only.

After stumbling upon this one while browsing Amazon and then reading the reviews and finding out SwingAways are now garbage, I just *had* to order this can opener. I am sooooo glad I did! It's carrying the torch, so to speak. LOL. In fact, I'll definitely be ordering a back-up soon. Great product. If you order it, you will NOT be sorry. You'll be doing your happy dance :D

(This review probably sounds a bit overly enthusiastic considering that we're talking about a can opener. But I have a dog and 3 cats and I open lots of cans :P)

I really do hope that this helps someone to make the right decision and buy it :)

Black & Decker CO85 Spacemaker Can Opener, White

Black & Decker CO85 Spacemaker Can Opener, WhiteI totally agree with the previous reviewer, this opener has no power and even sounds like it's agonizing over the chore of opening the lid. It is definitely hard to get a can started since the cutting edge will not lift up enough to be able to hook the can edge into it, and forget about even trying to see the blade while doing said placement!

After only a week's use, it stalled numerous times while trying to open a large tuna can size. The can gets jammed and the motor continues to whine, and it took herculean effort to get the can back out of its grip. I had to unplug it several times to keep it from burning out its motor while I tried to free the can.

I cannot believe the poor design and jamming problems from the B & D namesake, much less the highly touted Spacemaker line of appliances over the years. It's definitely back to a Proctor Silex like I had before and this piece of junk is outta here!

We had a 10-year-old Spacemaker Can Opener that we liked. It died recently, and we purchased this model at the large superstore near our home. I am a handyman (we built our own home) and this new model will NOT mount properly on European-style kitchen cabinets (with a full-overlay door)! I could make a shim to mount it perhaps 3" below the cabinet, but that would be ridiculous. The mounting for this uses four screws through the base of the cabinet, but there are two front screws within 1/2" of the front of the unit. And the lever swings up 1" ABOVE the top of the unit to insert a can. So the front two mounting screws would need to be mounted into the bottom edge of the cabinet door, or the can opener cannot be used! The printed installation instructions do point out to be sure that the can opener is mounted close enough to the front of the cabinet so that the lever will clear the front of the door. But in doing this, the front two screws cannot be used. So it is going back to the store. What is wrong with B&D Engineering?

I've looked at a lot of knife blocks and magnetic strips over the last six months, including this one, which I played with at a local kitchen store. It's attractive as such things go, and it holds on to a chef's knife with a solid grip. I stuck a narrow bread knife on it and, as expected, it didn't hold on quite so tightly (less metal against the strip), sliding slightly. That's no big deal, since magnetic strip holders do much better with wider blades. It performs as well as or better than the other magnetic strips I've tried. But for that I want to pay an extra $60-$80? Absolutely not.

For half the price I'd add a star. It is much prettier than the magnetic strip I've got in my kitchen now, even if it isn't more functional. I'm sure it looks striking with Global knives (all those dots). But there are other nice-looking strips that cost a whole lot less.

I use my magnetic strip for spatulas and scissors. This one would work very well for those, but it seems a shame to spend so much for a stylish spatula holder. For my knives (Hattori very sharp, very beautiful, and expensive) I ended up buying a Magna Pro knife block (Messermeister sells them). It's a free-standing quarter-circle wedge of wood with magnets inside. It holds ten knives, and when I have to slide one against it, it slides against wood, not metal. If I'm careless or distracted as I put away a knife, it smacks into wood, not metal. It doesn't hold knives quite as tightly as the Global magnetic strip, but it still holds them firmly, it cleans easily, and it has the hygienic open-air storage advantages of a magnetic strip. It looks much nicer and can be had for just $25 more than the Global strip (I found it online for $129 full retail is more like $180, and still a better buy than the Global strip, in my opinion). It holds two more knives and you can move it around to be handy to your workspace.

The Global magnetic strip knife holder is an attractive and solid product. I just don't think that it's good enough for that $104 price, and those dimples don't add $60 worth of pretty. But pretty is in the eye of the beholder. If you really want your magnetic strip to coordinate with your Global knives and price is no object, then go for it. It will do the job very well indeed.

Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, STIGB15, Titan 15 Piece Full Knife Set

Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, STIGB15, Titan 15 Piece Full Knife SetI really liked the look of this set, but the knife block was cracked in half when I got it, and the knives just weren't sharp at all. I'd expect a quality knife to show up very sharp, like a Wusthof does. Oh well. Also, not quite a black finish, and the knives are too light, especially the steak knives.

I mentioned the crack in the knife caddy and that I would contact Schmidt Brothers directly. I did and got a request from one person for photographs of the problem. I took the requested photos and attached them to an email to him. It was returned by the "Postmaster". I resent the email with the same result. I contacted Schmidt Brother again on their website and got a response back from another person. She seemed puzzled that the emails were getting returned and request I send directly to her. I did as requested and again the email was not delivered. I will still say that the knives are awesome, but it you want any customer service you can forget it! I did send another not on the Schmidt Brothers website expressing my irritation and it has not even been answered.

I suspect Amazon should boot them as a vendor! Product is 5* (except for the knife caddy). Customer Service is 0*.

I love to cook. It just makes me feel good and I smile a lot when I am in the kitchen, but there was one thing that made it less pleasurable...I had good knives but trying to keep a half-way decent sharpness on them was a nightmare. I have wanted professional quality knives for a long time, but the price was prohibitive.

These knives are very reasonably priced and perform exactly as I had hoped. My son was over a few days after I got them and was in awe at the way they sliced through a tomato like it was warm butter.

The only complaint I have is that the rather cleverly designed knife caddy has a crack in the wood that after only a few weeks has already gotten worse (I NEVER put knives away with any moisture on them. Just not a good practice). I will take that up with Schmidt Brothers directly. I'm sure they will take care of it right away. I'll update if they don't.

Bottom line I would highly recommend any amateur chef (or professional for that matter) buy these knives.
