Zwilling JA Henckels TWIN Pro-S Classic Parer

Professional S 3' Paring KnifeWhile visiting friends in KC, I happened to try their Henckels 4-star knives and was amazed at their sharpness, balance, and comfort. I immediately decided I NEEDED to get a set of these knives.

I quickly settled on the 4-star chef's and fillet knives, but tried paring knife after paring knife without finding one that really felt right. The 4-star handle is great on the big knives (where one grips the handle with the entire hand), but didn't feel right on the paring knife; it felt like my pinky was in limbo, not meant to be on the handle, but not meant to be off it, either.

Then I tried THIS knife. The Pro-S 3" paring knife just felt *right* it fit perfectly, it had just the right heft, and it was far more agile than the longer 4" knives. I've had it for six months and it performs exactly as I expected it to; this knife is just a joy to use.

I love the thing, but you'll probably want to do exactly as I did, trying a number of high-quality knives to find the one that feels right to you.

Henckels is the best quality if you stick to their Pro series. Skip their International line. This paring knife will last forever and fits well in the hands of both me and my much larger housemate. Holds it's edge well. Good tools make the job go well!

This knife was a Christmas present, and a replacement to a Forschner 5" utility knife that got lost (probably in the trash).

The Henckels Twin Pro S line are great knives. Professional quality stuff here including features like high-carbon, no-stain steel, drop-forged construction, triple rivets, full bolsters, full tang, and POM handles. It's weighted well, and feels good in the hand and pretty controllable for a 4" knife. The blade is long enough to use as a utility/sandwhich knife.

So far after 9 years it's been a good knife. It came from the box sharp and held it's edge for a good while before I sharpened it. The steel takes a great edge, and stays sharp for a while, but still needs to be re-sharpened after about a month of continuous use. This is respectable, but not great, especially for a knife costing $50.

I am impressed with the quality of this knife...no gaps anywhere between the handle, rivets, tang, or bolster and its balance.

However, I am not particularly impressed with the steel. It hasn't stained or discolored in 9 years, which is what I expected, but fell short of my expectations of edge-holding and ease of sharpening (I use diamond sharpeners). The angle of the edge from the factory was also over 20 degrees, which is too tall for kitchen cutlery. I compared this to my Forschner rosewood handled paring knives ($40 for a set of 3, 3" straight, serrated, and 4" utility), and the performance is so close that I wouldn't justify spending $50 on this knife. The Forschners are stamped knives, and performed very well for a fraction of the cost.

If you are looking for a good paring/utility knife, and have money to spend, then this will work very well.

I bought this thinking I'd be happier with it than a shorter paring knife, but I think that may have been an error. The blade itself is sharp and cuts nearly anything, but I find I use it minimally. Its too big for any high detail work, where I find myself fumbling and too small for any rougher work, where I endlessly reach for my santoku knife.

Remarkably, the only area I've found it highly effective for me is for sandwich making, where I previously used my santoku and a dinner knife. It can easily work its way through an onion or any other vegetable you'd want on the sandwich and allow for more simple tasks (like spreading condiments, cutting the sandwich, etc.) due to its nice length.

I bought this knife as a replacement for an older cheap one I had. I would say this knife is worth the money. Very sharp and it looks like it will last a very long time.

Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery Set

Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery SetThis is a gorgeous knife set. I was really happy with the knives over all. However, they do rust easily. I do handwash and dry them, but still have rust spots on both the blades and handles. Rust spots have developed even when cleaning immediately after usewaiting causes more problems. I have used stainless cleaner, but have been unable to remove all the rust spots.

My husband and I bought this set of knives with money from our wedding and I LOVED them at first. It seemed like a great set of knives at a great price. Wrong. We havent even had them for 2 months and several of the knives already have several rust spots. The spots won't come off with anything. I have emailed cuisinart to see if this is covered under warranty.... no response. If notBed Bath & Beyond will take them back. Very disappointing.

Great cutlery set a must have in any kitchen! They are light weight with comfortable to hold handles! This set comes with two paring knives and a smaller set of siccors(that don't fit in block, not a problem for me but for some I know this would be a con). I haven't had any problems with rust and they sharpen up really nice with just a couple swipes on the sharpening rod! We do not put them in the dishwasher and wash them all by hand, being as that none of them are sariated it makes cleaning them a sinch.

We enjoy our set so much we bought a set for our parents as a Christmas gift.

I would give 0 stars if possible. I received this as a wedding present from my cousin, from my wedding list in amazon. I picked them, and I loved them at first, they are suposed to be STAINLESS STEEL, but no... I just received them 3 months ago and the rust is almost fully covering some of them, it's a shame cause they're really sharp, but I'll have to throw them away :(, I wonder if I can get a refund from amazon or a change...

I received this as a gift and had I received the receipt with it, these would be going back. I've been using knives from my 10 year old block set that have never been sharpened and those are just as sharp as the knives in this set. A good knife should do the work for you (according to many top chefs) but I certainly have to do all of the work with these... even dicing an onion leaves my hand feeling cramped. What do you expect, though when you only pay $80-ish dollars for such a large block set. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the shears that come with the set are nice and sharp. Trimming chicken was effortless with those. Sorry for the negativity but I just can't find much to say about this set that's positive. It's pretty, I guess. :) Save your money if you care about good, quality SHARP knives. This set would be ok for someone who doesn't cook very often.

Mundial 5100 Series Red 6-inch Light Cleaver

Mundial 5100 Series Red 6-inch Light CleaverI've had this cleaver for about 2 years now and the end came yesterday. A good whack onto a porkchop snapped it right off at the handle. The blade is not as sharp as it should be but then again, I bring this blade out strictly for the purpose of breaking bones and use it with authority. Look somewhere else for a cleaver with a little more heft.

This small cleaver makes short work of a cabbage or a pineapple as well as a chicken or a rack of ribs. It has a satisfying heft, and it cuts what I aim for, cleanly and quickly. I will admit, though, that if I had realized that I could get a similar at a much lower price elsewhere, I would not have treated myself to this one.

The stainless-steel blade and the attractive red handle are dishwasher safe, and that is a big plus. As time goes on, I may congratulate myself on acquiring a tool that lasts well and keeps an edge without requiring a lot of tedious maintenance. A favorite kitchen tool grows on me. This one has made a fine first impression, and for the rest, time will tell!

Norton Waterstone Starter Kit: 220/1000 grit stone, 4000/8000 grit stone, SiC flattening stone

Norton Waterstone Starter Kit: 220/1000 grit stone, 4000/8000 grit stone, SiC flattening stone
  • 220/1000-grit combination waterstone for repairing, then establishing, steel cutting edges
  • 4000/8000-grit combination waterstone for maintaining, refining, and polishing steel cutting edges
  • 1/2 x 8 x 3 inch (H x W x D) size makes each waterstone suitable for use as a bench stone for knives and tools
  • Blue plastic hinged boxes with no-slip rubber feet can be used as holders for the waterstones during sharpening
  • 3/4 x 9 x 3 inch coarse-grit silicon carbide flattening stone for maintenance of waterstones, and an instructional DVD to demonstrate basic waterstone sharpening

I finally spent the money on some quality stones after years of sandpaper sharpening. I'm glad I did. The DVD is very helpful, especially if you don't have a mentor to show you the ropes and is a good value because it teaches how to sharpen without a honing guide. The flattening stone works well and is necessary. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend a 1000/8000 stone, the DVD, and sandpaper for flattening, but if you can spring for it, the kit is a good value and I expect mine will last decades.

Anyone who is into sharpening by hand, especially straight razors, will appreciate this set of stones. The set comes highly recommeneded by every forum on straight razor shaving, and should also put a razor edge on any knives and tools you have lying around the house. It even comes with a decent DVD on sharpening. If you are only going to sharpen knives you can easily get by with the 1000/4000 stone and save a few bucks. And, if your graduating from oilstones this set is a real treat.

Freehand sharpening is not easy, but with a little education and some tips from YouTube you can do a great job.

This was my first entry into sharpening with water stones, and I decided to get this set after trying to piece together a similar set with individual stones. Not sure why, but the name "Starter Kit" had me concerned because it implied that it was going to be somehow smaller or less capable. Rest assured, the kit is simply their standard stones packaged in a single rather utilitarian box. Each stone is of high quality, and purchasing together this way provided significant savings over buying each piece individually.

Before I talk about the stones themselves, I should add to my comments that, like others, my kit first arrived with two 220/1000 stones and no 4000/8000. This definitely seems to be a genuine quality control issue. However, in typical Amazon fashion I completed a return authorization online and had a new set in two days, and the inconvenience was minimal, but not non-existent.

I was surprised how short the learning curve was with this. I started with a very inexpensive and dull stainless steel Chinese cleaver that I purchased years ago in New York's Chinatown. This thing was really little more than a novelty piece, as I'd never been able to get it more than moderately sharp using our Chef's Choice sharpener. In one attempt the stones had the knife extremely sharp, and in fact I now reach for it for a huge number of chopping tasks that I'd usually tackle with my Henckels chef's knife. Feeling confident, I worked my way through the Henckels set, and each is now shaving sharp as well. From there I proceeded to sharpen a 20-year old, original Japanese-made Kershaw Black Horse folding knife. This was a little more challenging, but after getting better at finding and holding a proper angle the blade was reprofiled and again absolutely razor sharp. Feeling confident, I then tackled the reprofiling of a KA-BAR USMC. This one was much more difficult for me as a novice, but again, after some patient practice, the blade is now a perfect, hair-popping mirror finish.

After literally hours of sharpening, the stones really don't seem to be any worse for the wear, and I suspect I may never actually consume a stone. The Silicon Carbide flattening stone is very useful, and mine was perfectly flat and very quickly and easily restores the stones to a completely flat surface. I did go out and purchase a Nagura stone for the 8000 grit stone, and have found it to be indispensable as well, as the 8K does very quickly accumulate metal, slowing its effectiveness. I've read from many much more experience sharpeners than I that the 8000k stone is really overkill, but I've definitely found that it takes the blades to another level of sharpness in my amateur hands, while bringing out that jewel-like mirror finish. Using the stones becomes a bit addictive, and I actually went ahead and also picked up a strop that I loaded with green .5 micron compound, at it definitely takes the blade to a final level of perfection. The edge on that KA-BAR, for example, is truly scary after adding a stropping step!

All in all, this is more than a "starter kit," it's just a very capable and easy to learn full size set that should last for a very long time, even if not forever for the typical home user.

This kit includes everything you need to sharpen your chisels and plane blades. It even has a step by step video of how to use the stones. No stone is left unturned in putting together this set. For those who don't have a steady hand a honing guide is recommended, though by no means necessary.

I've been using sandpaper for the last 3 years, I really like the water stones. The only problem I have is that I'm not sure the flattening stone is flat, I can take to a waterstone til its flat then put 2 waterstones together and it appears that it is not flat. So I guess I need to put the flattening stone to sandpaper. It's a good starter set to make sure it works for you, but I can tell that my next purchase will be the full stones, not the combination stones.

J.K. Adams 15-Inch-by-8-1/2-Inch Maple Wood Cutting Board, Tugboat-Shaped

J.K. Adams 15-Inch-by-8-1/2-Inch Maple Wood Cutting Board, Tugboat-ShapedThis is an apparently well-made cutting board in a classic style. The paint around the edge is a nice touch. This will be going into a beach house.

Some people have complained that it is "small" but the dimensions given in the title are accurate. Imagine roughly the size of yellow legal paper. In actuality, it is even bigger because some points like the wheelhouse and bow of the boat stick out.

Dexter-Russell (S135F-PCP) - 5" Boning Knife - Sani-Safe Series

Dexter-Russell - 5' Boning Knife - Sani-Safe SeriesI wanted to get this knife because it was cheap, and had great ratings. It doesn't feel cheap in your hand, and performs like a much more expensive knife.

Why oh why did I wait to buy a boning knife? I went to the local housewares store but all they had in the way of boning knives were forged $$$ knives which were overkill in this instance, in my humble opinion. I'd previously purchased a Dexter-Russell bread knife which I was very happy with, so I finally ordered this knife and its arrival coincided with a BIG sale on whole chickens at the local market, so I got to put it to use right away

WOW. What an INCREDIBLE difference using the proper tool makes! I'd done some research online as to whether I wanted or needed a flexible blade or not, and this 5" narrow flexible blade proved to be IDEAL. Taking a chicken apart is remarkably easy now, no longer the mess I'd make with my Wusthof Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Inch Cook's Knife, Black 8" chef's knife or my Wusthof Wüsthof Classic Ikon White Paring Knife 3 1/2" 3 1/2" paring knife. I did not understand the difference that a boning knife would make. I like to purchase whole chickens because they're usually cheaper and the longer a piece of meat remains in a large piece, the fresher it's going to be.

Consider this knife ESSENTIAL if you do any real cooking. Budget for it at once. Worth every penny!

Love the "knotted" design on the handles. The servers have a hefty feel and the handles are easy to grip. They are also longer and larger than the shorter, clumsier versions that are so prevalent. The finish is high-quality. I would recommend these without reservation.

Harold Imports Stainless-Steel Multi-Blade Herb Scissors

Harold Imports Stainless-Steel Multi-Blade Herb ScissorsTo my surprise, this herb scissors works great and is easy to clean--just rinse under the kitchen sink. The efficacy of this tool has broadened my use of fresh herbs in my food preparation. This item is priced just right.

Regular scissor really work just as well for snipping herbs. These don't always cut all the way through, plus bits of herbs get caught between the blades making them harder to clean. Nor did I find them to work well for shredding paper as another reviewer suggested they don't cut through even a single sheet very easily.

WMF No.1 5-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Place SettingI have owned this WMF service for about 10 years. I am thrilled with it's durability, strength & shine. It doesn't bend or dull. This is my service of choice. Thank you WMF.

I bought 4 sets of this WMF flatware pattern as a gift and they do look beautiful, with a good weight/balance to them. Earlier, I tried out the Nortica set and was disappointed with how flimsy that pattern felt compared to the No. 1. I now know why this WMF line is so popular! All the sets arrived in good condition, no pieces missing, from Amazon.

The flatware is of excellent quality and we love the elegant design -hence the 5 stars. However, we were shipped some incomplete place settings (not in manufacture's original packaging) with some items from another design by the same manufacturer literally thrown-in the box instead (most of these were badly scratched). Amazon's "customer service" from India was completely hopeless at sorting out the problem but once we got through to a representative based in the US it was soon put right.

Epicurean Non-Slip Gripper Cutting Board with Silicone Grippers

Epicurean 18 by 13-Inch Non Slip Gripper Cutting Board, Natural with Red Silicone GrippersI have no complaints about the cutting surface. My issue is with the non-slip feet at the corners of board. These non-slip feed actually raise the surface of the cutting board a bit off the counter top, so if I do any heavy chopping, the board can bounce some (e.g. the board bends in the middle because it is not flush or near-flush with the counter). It can be very annoying to chop with this bouncing action. So, it might be better to buy this board without the feet, and just put a non-slip map underneath when using it.

I have had my 3 Epicurean boards for a week now and am really pleased, because:

* they are lightweight which helps when transferring ingredients to a pan or the peelings to the bin

* they are easy to clean (I have only hand washed but they do go in the dishwasher)

* they dry quite quickly (so am hoping they won't go slimy or stinky like my last regular wooden boards did)

I am thinking of getting another one to replace my carving board so that is the best endorsement that I can think of.

Buy Epicurean Non-Slip Gripper Cutting Board with Silicone Grippers Now

I just got my new non-slip, slate colored epicurean cutting board and I was slightly surprised to see knife marks left on the board's surface after just the first use. Reading the epicurean website, I quickly learned that this is common, but I was surprised that I could feel the marks on the board as I ran my fingers over the surface. I understand that a softer board is better for a knife's edge, but I guess I was hoping the board would stay mark free for longer than the first use. Perhaps the lighter color boards don't show the marks as well as the slate colored board. If anyone has had a similar experience, please leave a comment, I would like to know that it is not just my board. Thanks.

I like the light weight and that it doesn't slide when using. However, disappointed that it shows cutting marks so easily. I'm pretty particular about how things look if I'm leaving them out on my counter. After only a couple of weeks of using it, it looks "worn." Wood cutting boards don't show the wear any where near as much as this does this quickly.

Want Epicurean Non-Slip Gripper Cutting Board with Silicone Grippers Discount?

I really, really like this cutting board. It does not gouge easily, even with very sharp knives, and the silicone grippers keep it from sliding around on the countertop. I was worried when I got it that the grippers might fall off easily, but so far they've shown no sign of that being likely. If you're looking for a good-quality cutting board that will last you a while, I would definitely recommend this one. It's much nicer than plastic ones, and easier to care for than wooden ones.

Hamilton Beach 76500 Walk 'N Cut Cordless Can Opener

Hamilton Beach 76500 Walk 'N Cut Cordless Can OpenerWe had fun with the Walk 'N Cut, using it occasionally for about 10 months. When it didn't work one day, I charged it only to find that it still didn't work. Opening it up revealed that the batteries had leaked badly. I called Hamilton Beach and they said it was a discontinued item and could do nothing for me. It's disappointing to have to throw it away after such a short time with no recourse for a warranty replacement.

Yep, it's uncanny, extraordianry and incredible the way this compact can opener trots around a can as it cuts. Just attach to the can, and there we go. The lid is removed cleanly and quickly. Then, the Walk 'n Cut turns off automatically.

It opens any size can from a one serving juice can to a 16 oz. can of ravioli, and it has a removable cutting lever which easily lifts off for cleaning (no more dried tomato sauce stuck to your opener!).

The Walk 'n Cut is cordless and rechargeable. Put it on your counter, as it is an attractive implement, or tuck it away in a drawer.

Wish more of my kitchen necessities did the walking for me!

Hampton Forge 16-Slot Storage Block

Hampton Forge 16-Slot Storage BlockFor what I needed, it is a good size. Holds eight steak knives and color is ok for my kitchen. Only complaint is a defect in the surface that looks like a burn, but is a flaw in the wood and it is on the face of the block where the steak knives are stored. I can live with it, but would be much nicer without the flaw staring me in the face every time I get a knife out.

Wusthof 9-Slot Beechwood Knife Block

Wusthof 9-Slot Beechwood Knife BlockThe Wusthof 9 slot knife block is of beechwood, a softer European hardwood. It takes up about 4"x9" of counter space, with maybe an inch of overhang in the front. Its slots are as follows, from top to bottom:

wide slot for a chef's knife of up to 10" (25cm) blade length

square hole for a sharpening steel of up to 10" (25cm) length

two slots for narrower knives of up to 8.5" (22cm) length, such as a carving knife and a bread knife

moderately wide slot for a knife of up to 8" (20cm) length; this slot is not wide enough for a full size chef's knife, but did fit my 5.5" (14cm) mini chef's knife, and would also fit a boning knife

narrow slot, 8" (20cm) long; however, this slot will not fit most 8" knives and seems designed for the Wusthof 6" (16cm) "sandwich" knife

two small slots, 7" (18cm) deep; these are too narrow for the sandwich knife, and seem designed for the paring knife and the utility knife

short slot for kitchen shears; I don't know exactly how long this is because it doesn't go all the way through, but it works fine for my Wusthof kitchen shears

I used this block for over a decade, at which point it was replaced because I finally accumulated more Wusthof knives than would fit in this block. After all those years it was slightly dingy because I'd never washed it, and had developed a slight crack on one side that did not affect its utility (and which I only noticed when I pulled it out to measure the slot lengths for this review). It's a good basic knife block for a typical kitchen.

This knife block shouldn't have Wustof's name on it because the difference between the quality of this product and the quality of their knives (which are outstanding) is huge. Besides looking cheap, once it is loaded up, it wants to tip forward quite easily. That's not something you want to have happen when you've got a very sharp knife in your hand. If you flinch, start, jump, or whatever you could hurt yourself. I'm going to re-position the feet on the bottom to see if that will help. If not, I'll have to add additional support. Disappointing.

Buy Wusthof 9-Slot Beechwood Knife Block Now

This is a decent storage block. However, based on 10 years experience working with wood I can say that this is not made of beechwood. It's some type of tropical wood. Beechwood is a classic choice for European storage blocks, butcher blocks etc and has a more redish appearance and distinctive grain (for example, see the pictures of the larger Wustoff blocks). This product gets the job done, but the description is incorrect.

I wanted to get a "compact" knife block for the Wusthof knives that I purchased and thought that this would fill the bill because I only have a few knives. As one review said, it probably would not be very stable if it was filled with knives.

Well the first thing that I noticed was it missing one of the rubber feet on the bottom and would tip over easily so I returned it hesitatingly to Amazon for a replacement.

I say hesitatingly because the quality of the wood and workmanship is not up to the Wusthof knives that it's supposed to hold. It's made with "slapped together" veneers and it is not even sanded smooth on all sides. I haven't decided if I'll keep the replacement if it's of similar poor quality.

I like this okay, but the quality is lacking after a few months, the wood cracked. It still works, but not worth the money.

Zhuhai Ceramic 2pc Knife Set Includes 5.5-Inch Chef Knife, 3-Inch Paring Knife & Peeler

Zhuhai Ceramic 2pc Knife Set Includes 5.5-Inch Chef Knife, 3-Inch Paring Knife & PeelerThey worked very good but I now have two large nicks in the big knife. We did not cut any thing hard, the one nick showed up just as we were cutting up a head of lettuce. The peeler seems to work ok.

I ordered this set because it came with the peeler. At first I found the peeler difficult to use, but once I realized I was trying too hard it became a dream. It peels even the softest fruit so quickly and easily and doesnt' leave anything turning brown. I especially like this for sweet potatoes as they turn brown so quickly when using a metal knife or peeler. The knives are great, but be very careful. When they say ceramic knives chip easily they are not kidding. I chipped the large knife the first time I used it, but it still works great. I especially love being able to cut up fruit to take for lunch and it isn't brown when I go to eat it. Just rinse the knives and dry them, no detergent needed as they are non porous. Also, the knife blades come down past the handle so the entire blade can be used for cutting, not just the front. The Yoshi advertised on TV has a blade that won't contact the cutting surface near the handle.

I have a Yoshi and the blade is a little thicker and less apt to break on impact. That being said, this set really completes my ceramic knife inventory. It has all you'll need and the ease with which they work is nice for my arthritis. Just don't try to pry with them, negative results guaranteed. Never tried it myself but...

Victorinox Cutlery 10-Inch Sandwich Knife, White Fibrox Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 10-Inch Sandwich Knife, White Fibrox HandleI originally purchased one of these knives in 1962 while I was working as a professional chef, and used it commercially until 1970 when I tired of fighting with management over food quality.

For the next fifteen years, it received heavy usage around the home until we moved all of my professional cutlery disappeared while in transit with the moving company.

Basically, for twenty-four years this knife received almost everyday usage. It was never resharpened during this time and was either kept in a proper knife block or used only on a wooden cutting board. At the end of this period, I could easily remove a 1/16" slice from a very ripe tomato.

I recently discovered that this piece of cutlery was available on the internet and though disappointed that the "Rosewood" handle was no longer in production (Thanks NSF), and ordered a replacement.

While it has been my experience that a "factory edge" means that they at least tried to grind the blade, this is not the case with this blade. The 2" straight section nearest the handle will shave you as delivered, and the remaining 8" of "Waverly"edge is virtually surgically sharp.

DO NOT get stupid or careless with this knife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It cuts three ways DEEP, WIDE, and CONTINUOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy one for yourself, store it in a protected location and use it only with a wooden cutting board and expect to give it to one of your children when you pass on.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 10-Inch Long Slicer

Wusthof Grand Prix II 10-Inch Long SlicerDefinitely better than using a Chef's Knife if you want to smooth cuts. I did a catering gig without a slicer and we were doing roast beef. While it wasn't a big deal, it would've been nicer to have slices without that sawed look

Bought this knife from amazon 2 years ago. It has never lost its edge and rarely needs anything more than a few passes on the steel. This is a top quality product which my wife (a semi-professional cook) uses constantly even when I think a smaller knife would do. I/we can recommend it without reservation.

Finally, I've found my slicing knife. I have been looking for a long, thin slicing knife for slicing meat and poultry and for filleting and skinning fish and this is it. After being horribly disappointed with Kerhsaw's "Kerhsaw Precision Forged Stainless Steel 8-Inch Slicing Knife" and shopping Victorinox, Dexter (Made in China, very sad for the American company...) and whatever else happened to catch my eye while I was out and about, I found a great deal on this knife at my local restaurant supply store. Fit and finish on this knife are top notch and it came super-sharp out of the box. It's a forged blade, a bit thin and flexible and does the job nicely. It feels good in the hand, it has a nice shaped handle and cuts whatever you have like buttah with a long, smooth stroke. You could probably also use it as a sword in an emergency if you happened to misplace your katana and needed to fight off some ninjas, or Dolph Lundgren.

People If you are looking to buy something like a knife, spend as much as you can afford to get good gear and don't waste your money on crap. That way, you only have to buy it once. I picked this up for quite a bit less than Amazon's price, but even at $100.00, over the course of a lifetime, the cost is next to nothing. My kids or grand-kids will be arguing over who gets this thing.

Wusthof Made in Germany, not China (Not USA either thanks Kershaw and Dexter...) Well crafted, beautiful and does the job it was made to do exceedingly well.

I was familiar with this brand because I just moved from Germany and I am very happy with the quality of this knife. I just started culinary school and this brand was recommended by several of the chefs for those that could afford them. I am glad that I made this investment in a tool that I use daily.

Ricci Martello 20-Piece Set Stainless Flatware

Ricci Martello 20-Piece Set Stainless FlatwareI bought this set to add to the service for 8 that I already owned. I am very pleased with the shapes and sizes of each piece, as well as their heavy weight and excellent quality. The hammered-finish handles are comfortable to hold and go well with almost every decor. I wash them using Finish tabs in the dishwasher, and all the pieces come out perfectly clean and shiny, except for occasional spotting on one or two knife blades. Highly recommended.

ZHEN Japanese VG-10 3-Layer Forged Steel Fruit Paring Utility Knife, 4.5-Inch

ZHEN Japanese VG-10 3-Layer Forged Steel Fruit Paring Utility Knife, 4.5-InchThis is not only an amazingly beautiful knife, but it is sharp and a perfect size for lots of things. I can tell it will be my HG (Holy Grail) of knives! I just had a beautiful custom woodblock delivered (wanted to add a pic) and needed to buy knives. I have selected at least 5 different knives in different brand in order to form a decision about the brand I will continue to build upon. Zhen will definitely be my choice when it comes to presentation. The wood handle is a beautiful aged Brazilian Cherry color, not dark like walnut, but multi-dimensional as you might imagine a floor to be.

Perfect-

High quality construction and sharp from the factory. I'm impressed with the quality of the knife and materials for the price.

You won't find a knife that comes significantly sharper than this one from the factory at any price. Only time will tell whether it holds the edge well. VG-10 is an excellent steel so it should be good.

After trying out this knife I will be purchasing other Zhen knives in the future. I may just have to move up to their damascus set.

My one complaint is that I don't like the handle color, I would prefer something darker like the handles in their damascus line.

I own several Shun knives (4" paring, 2x Chinese Chef Knife, 8" chef knife, utility knife, vegetable knife). This Zhen 4.5" knife matches my Shun knife in balance, sharpness, and solid feel and weight. The only thing I would complain about (minor) is the light wooden handle, which doesn't look as good as the Shun dark wood color. The other minor difference is the lack of damascus pattern on this Zhen. But for almost less than half the price of how much my Shun paring knife is selling now these days (i.e. $89.99), I am not complaining at all. The Zhen $35.99 is a deal!!! Definitely will buy more Zhen knifes in the future.

Hello Kitty KT5211 2-Slice Wide slot toaster with cool Touch Exterior

Hello Kitty KT5211 2-Slice Wide slot toaster with cool Touch ExteriorI ordered and recieved this toaster when I expected to. I love it! Its very cute and I love that every piece of toast comes out with Hello Kitty's face on it. My nieces are going to go nuts over it when they come to visit! I like that it also has a lot of options like defrost, reheat, and bagel. I've never seen a toaster with defrost on it. It makes great toast and looks cute on counter.

Well I got this because 1) I adore Hello Kitty and 2) my toaster had recently gotten damamged. I was so excited when it arrived. I plugged it in right away and used it. All the setting are clearly marked and work well. The only dissappointment I have is that the Hello Kitty image that is supposed to appear on one side of the bread is not always there. I don't like my toast too dark but sometimes a clear image appears and sometimes it doesn't ( I have it set at a 3.5 out of 7). All in all I'm very pleased. If you are getting this primarily for the image that is supposed to be left on the toast be aware it may not always appear as clear and consistently as you like.

To my disbelief, and almost anyone who visits my home and laughs at our Hello Kitty toaster, this is hands down the most reliable kitchen appliance I've ever owned! Definitely has the best bang for the buck of any appliance in our kitchen. True, you cant see Hello Kitty's face too well, but that's okay, it does a great job on toast as well as bagels. Our's has been in service for about 8 years now, bought it at the Hello Kitty store in Potomac Mills in northern Virginia, never had a problem.

I'll admit it: I bought this because I was thrilled at the prospect of having a cartoon cat's likeness imprinted on my toast.

Now, it's a little hit-or-miss about actually getting that face on your toast. Unless you like your toast black, your Hello Kitty face might be a vague splotch of less-toastedness. But you know? I don't mind, because this is a really decent toaster either way. I'm giving it five stars because I didn't expect this plastic girly thing to actually do work...and boy does it. Lots of options for your various preferences of toastiness, and so far this baby has handled two years of constant use by college students, so I'm giving it some definite quality points.

If you're in the market for a toaster that's awesome in a ridiculous way, here it is.

I bought this as a present for my sister-in-law, when I asked her if the toast comes out as hello kitty she said no it doesn't, she says you have to turn the dial way up even to see anything.

Poor product please don't waste your money.
