Arcos 10-Inch 250 mm Universal Cleaver

Arcos 10-Inch 250 mm Universal CleaverThis is a great product well done Arcos, you continue to exceed expectations! ITs a well balanced product, easy to handle and has excellent cutting power. Many other brands are not well balanced and this means extra effort is required to get clean cuts. I bought the knife with a black handle which looks both classy and classical however the coloured handles visually cheapen what is actually a great knife.

Wusthof 13 Slot Storage Block

Wusthof 13 Slot Storage BlockI recently purchased several open stock kitchen knives and needed/wanted a block to store them. Not wanting to spend a lot of money, this one caught my eye because of the price and the wide slots that will hold three chef's or other wide blade knives. I also appreciate the half moon slot to hold scissors. Most of all, unlike other knife blocks I have used in the past, it is very stable and not tippy at all. It is solid and I expect it will last many many years. Recommended.

i have a small set of wusthof knifes. this block holds them and a pair of kitchen shears. i would recommend this item

It came beautifully wrapped and in good time. The wood is beautiful! Well worth the money!

Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel Knives

Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel KnivesImmediately upon opening the box, I noticed that only one of the knives even had an edge. The knives without an edge could not cut through bread, a tomato, a pepper, etc. The one knife with an edge performed adequately, but no more. It would make it through crusted bread if there was sufficient back and forth action used. The knives are light weight and the blades are thin. I tried to contact the manufacturer to see if I simply had received a bad set that had escaped their quality control. No response. I returned the set.

Great set of knifes. We did not know we already had several knifes from this company. We had them for approx 5 years and their still sharp. Great price for all the knifes we got. It came down to less than $5.00 a knife after we added it up.

And definitely not 'Surgical Stainless Steel'. Not only are these knives dull as dirt, they rust. Surgical stainless should not rust. I wish these reviews allowed photos to be uploaded so you could see for yourself. You wouldn't believe your eyes. Save your money.

The paring knife is pretty sweet. I love that it's constructed from a a seamless single piece of steelit just feels very good in my hand. This is admittedly a crappy consumer set of knives that most people will never bother to sharpen because they have no idea how or only a useless honing steel. I keep one in my knife roll for it's unmistakable flashy looks knowing that if it one day went missing, I would not be too sad.

Want Forever Sharp Platinum Series 8 Pc Surgical Stainless Steel Knives Discount?

My wife got this little paring knife as a freebee at a demo in one of the big box stores. It is NOT the Platinum series but rather one labeled Surgical Stainless Steel. I must admit it is sharp, but we have only had it about two months at this point and time will only tell how it will hold up. Problem is, it is rusting and or pitting. I must admit someone, most likely me, did put it away with some left over chocolate on it, but why a stainless steel blade would pit from chocolate is unknown to me. So, that said, I have my doubts this is actually Stainless Steel and I am not aware of Surgical Stainless Steel rusting, but then again I am not a surgeon. As always "buyer beware".

Oenophilia Coutale Sommeliers Corkscrew

Oenophilia Coutale Sommeliers CorkscrewThis is the best corkscrew of it's kind! I am a professional bartender and server and this is the only corkscrew I buy now for work and home. The design of the double-pump is much more ergonomic than your regular double-pump corkscrews and it makes much more sense. (It may take a minute to get the hang of it because it's the opposite lever direction than you're probably used to, but after a few times using it you'll love it.) It is also light-weight and durable, and the price is awesome!

Starting with:

The good, and in fact very good No question about it, the Coutale concept of a spring loaded smaller foot inserted within the main foot is brilliant, way better than just about anything (two part foot, broken, and of course single) to extricate a recalcitrant cork. The short but coated screw goes in nicely and manages dry corks pretty well. Grade: A.

However, moving on to:

The bad and rather obnoxious Once pulled out and used, the foot doesn't fit snugly back in the main body of the corkscrew and instead flops about like a broken wrist and gets in the way, making the task of threading, specially through tough corks, more irritating that it should be. B-/C.

But it goes from bad to:

Very, very ugly The foil cutting blade on the sommelier version is an absolute, total disaster, a pathetically dull blade with a ridiculously pointed end that is very successful at slicing careless fingers (nothing like a blood stained label as a selling ploy), and perhaps killing pigs, but is near useless at cutting through foil. Very disappointing and ubersucky: I've resorted to removing the foil completely, which rather spoils the presentation, or using a separate knife or foil cutter in all cases. If this was a play for the triumph of form over function (it looks good) then bravo, otherwise it gets an F.

The worst of it is that these problems are FIXABLE, if not by the buyer. I'm a professional in the wine trade who may open up to a dozen bottles on any day: I can't imagine how obnoxious these issues must be for a sommelier who pulls double that each day. I'd pay triple if these glitches were fixed. As such, the good parts are the only things that keep me from forgetting this corkscrew in a drawer.

I liked the design, especially for fragile corks, but after 8 months of home use the screw fell out of the main body.

I own two of these corkscrews and have been very impressed. As a professional bartender these corkscrews allow me to open a bottle of wine in moments and provide a sharp blade that I can multitask. My only complaint, as seems to be a common one, is that the arm of the corkscrew becomes loose very quickly and tends to "flop" around. Regardless, I would definitely purchase more of these in the future.

I took a chance on this product due to the high reviews here on Amazon. I'm glad I did. I like everything about it! The weight is just right, the material provides a good grip and a nice aesthetic, and the action is very smooth. The knife works very well, the bottle opener can be used without moving anything, and all the parts came well lubricated. Highly recommended.

Edit: I guess I've had this for awhile now, but I'm upset to report that it recently broke. The plastic "head" piece that surrounds the blade-casing on top broke off like a clamshell. Perhaps I should have been more careful with it, but I wish that one piece had been constructed a bit more sturdily. I still recommend this, but don't think I'll be buying a second knowing my butter-fingers.

JAPANESE King Delux Knife Sharpening Stone Grit 1200

JAPANESE King Delux Knife Sharpening Stone Grit 1200These King Stones are legitimate Japanese Water Stones made in, you guessed it, Japan. They are extremely versitile and are the highest quality stones I have used. However, there are a few more good companies out there. Water stones are true to the craft of knife honing and sharpening and is a useful skill to teach yourself. I highly recommend watching virtuovice (YouTube Name) on YouTube for excellent tutorials on how to sharpen with stones.

The lower grit stones like the 250 and 400 are great for taking out chips in the blades or reprofiling the edge to fit your needs or preferences. As a camper who beats on knifes and axes, I really need this benefit to take out those chips and these stones do so beautifully.

A good stone grit to breach the gab between the lower grits and the finishing stone is the 1000 grit. This will help smooth out the edge and give it some great sharpness. It also makes finishing the edge with a 3000 or 4000 grit stone an easier and less time-consuming step in the process. Finally, you should use a leather strop with a green and black compound to really get a good edge.

Bottom Line and Reccommending Sharpening System:

1.) 250/1000 grit King Water Stone

2.) 3000 or 4000 grit King Stone

3.) Leather strop with compound

You only really need the 250, 1000 (or 1200), and 3000 (or 4000) grit stones with the strop. I have seen the strop put a better edge than 8000 grit stones. Keep in mind a strop is only 30 bucks or so, and you could almost spend $100 on an 8000 grit stone. This reccommended sytem will make a butter knife scary sharp if you wanted it too. However, the stones are expensive and will loose shape over time depending on how much you use them. But the time you use them will definitely yield better results than a spyderco Sharpmaker (I have one). I also reccommend some sort of a stone holder like the Steelex Sharpening Stone Holder (If needed). This works well and makes it easier to work with.

The only complaints I have seen about this stone is from individuals who do not know about conditioning and resurfacing stones that are soft or are careful not to gouge the surface of any sharpening stone.

Stone arrived fast, does its job and will last a lifetime if I take care of it.

This stone can be used to produce a razor sharp edge. If you are new to sharpening with Japanese stones, I'd highly recommend you watch the "Advanced Blade Sharpening" video from Carter Cutlery. Murray Carter does a wonderful job of demonstrating his technique for getting knifes "scary sharp"!

Norpro Mini Cut-Slice Prep Board

Norpro Mini Cutting Serving Tray, OrangeI bought a green one, which is a lighter shade of avocado green. I love the plate like design to prevent round items from rolling off. I also like the thickness of the cutting board.

The size is just big enough for small cutting and slicing jobs, be it in the office or on the go. I mainly use it for camping to prepare simple meals and car trips to cut up fruits, cheese, and ham for a quick snack (use a silicone placemat under to prevent the board from moving). I also use it as a dinner plate during camping and car trips.

The knife (I use a Norpro paring knife with a sheath) will make slicing marks on the surface but that's what knives do, so be it.

I am very happy with the product and find it very handy and useful. It is easy to clean and doesn't take much space in your camping gear box or cubicle.

I just bought one of these cutting boards and quickly bought two more because the first one proved to be so useful at work when I cut fruit at my desk. Now I have one for home use (I should buy two more) and one which I am taking to Oaxaca, Mexico where I rent an apartment for a month each year. It will be left there with my Oaxaca "kitchen" for vacation use. I now consider this mini cutting board to be an indispensable part of my kitchen.

I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables which by nature are generally round and roll away from me while I am trying to cut them up. I like this cutting board because of the curved lip all the way around that helps me from dropping food. I use this every day and after three years has started to warp a little, from the bottom rack of the dishwasher, so I am getting a couple more. It's only about 10 inches long so you can't cut up more then one food item at a time with it but I use this smaller more convenient board every time and the large fold-out cutting board just sits in my cabinet.

Read Best Reviews of Norpro Mini Cut-Slice Prep Board Here

Aside from looking great this board has been used daily since it arrived ... I can cut the fruit and serve it to my family on the same board! I'm sure u could cut anything on it but I like to keep my boards separate so this one is JUST for fruit!

Want Norpro Mini Cut-Slice Prep Board Discount?

This is by far my favorite cutting board! I use it daily, mostly for cutting up fruit, or chopping up onions, garlic, carrots, etc for dinner.

The raised sides of the board are awesome! I like to eat oranges or grapefruits with breakfast, and the raised sides keep the fruits' juices from running onto the counter top. Also super useful for cutting up tomatoes (lots of juice there, too!)

It doubles as a small serving tray, so usually, after I cut up the fruit, I just take the whole cutting board with the fruit on it to the table with me -this means I don't have to dirty another dish, which is great, cause who wants to do extra dishes??

After using it, I tend to just wash it by hand. It's small enough that it fits in the dish drying rack next to regular plates.

Other uses: my friend brought her 2yr old over once and we were cooking dinner. I don't have plastic dishes, but this board turned out to be a great impromptu kids-safe plate. The raised sides kept food from rolling off the edges as the 2yr old happily played with her food and there was no danger of it breaking; she didn't push it off the table, but came close a few times ;)

I have to say that as far as cutting boards go, it's definitely on the smaller side. This is fine for me, because I usually cook for one or two people, but if you regularly cook for a larger gathering, it might not be as useful. At the same time, since it *is* so small, I use it a lot more than my larger cutting boards (bigger, so cleaning them is not as convenient).

I've been using mine for four years now, and I can definitely see some knife marks on it. I think I might just get another one or two and replace my current one (deep knife marks are harder to clean and may trap bacteria).

Bottom line: I have other cutting boards, but this is definitely the one that gets the most use in my kitchen. Would buy again in a heartbeat.

Rada Cutlery Quick Edge Knife Sharpener with Hardened Steel Wheels (Designed for Rada Knives), R119

Rada Cutlery Quick Edge Knife Sharpener with Hardened Steel Wheels, R119This product is listed as a knife sharpener but that isnt what it really does. Its similiar to a butcher's steel. Its purpose is to take a knife that is already sharp and put a stright edge on it. You should only have to sharpen your knife once a year or so but should steel it frequently. When you use your knife the sharp edge gets bent over at the microscopic level and it no longer feels sharp. Using a steel realigns the edge and restores its sharpness.

The photo looks more imposing that it is. Its actually small and lightweight, made out of plastic. Its composed of two steel wheels. Draw the knife between them a few times and your edge will be restored at the proper angle. Its a good buy and recommended for any knife.

This works great on thin bladed knives but falls a bit short on heavy blades. Its very well made and easy to operate. My Wife, who tends to ruin blades with a chef's steel, can use this without problems, this was the reason it was bought

I loved the Rada sharpener. My brother-in-law gave me his and I have bought more for friends and family and all are impressed by how well and easily it sharpens.

I have just noticed a problem, however the knife I use the most is developing a curve in the blade. Apparently a difference in pressure when pulling the knife between the wheels has worn some parts of the blade down more than other parts. Now my Caliphon 7" Santoku has a couple of humps in it.

I was actually looking for a report from someone who has solved this problem, but figured I'd pass this on to other Amazon shoppers while I was at it.

I had been looking for a new knife set for quite awhile and had decided to start collectingthe Rada line. The reviews for them are great, they are (relatively) inexpensive (compared to Vitronox, etc.) and made in the USA with a Life-Time guarantee. It was not long before I decided I should also have one of the Rada sharpeners on hand as well, especially considering its high rating with other reviewers.

Let me tell you, this little gadget is amazing! It has sharpened every old knife in our kitchen and all my husband's pocket knives. As men are wont to do, my husband demonstrated that the blades became so sharp, that he could "shave" his arm with the newly sharpened blades. You will have a "residue" when you sharpen so do it on a counter or over paper so there is no mess. But even old cheap knioves were not this sharp when they were brand new! And every one of those old knives are now capable of slicing even tomatoes paper-thin!

My husband has declared it the absolute best knife sharpener he has ever used and after his 30 years in the military, I think that is saying something. You cannot go wrong with this little baby and you are supporting American workers as well. Try their knives, too, you won't be disappointed!

Mr. Bar-B-Q 18-Piece Stainless-Steel Grill Tool Set

Mr. Bar-B-Q 18-Piece Stainless-Steel Grill Tool SetIn theory this is a nice set, and I like all of the different tools -but I bought this as a gift, and I'm going to return it. It just looks too cheap. The wooden handles are chipped in some places, there's almost no finish on them, and the plastic case is really flimsy and cheap looking. Perhaps if I was buying them for myself I wouldn't mind, but I'd be embarrassed to give this as a gift.

The plus about this set is the sheer number of things you get. I especially liked the idea of getting a set of knives with this....

The minus is just about everything else. The case is cheap shoddy plastic. The large tools are all TOO LARGE and bulky, I found them to be rather unwieldy. The worst thing about them, believe it or not, is that the rubber grips STINK to high heaven. They must off-gas like crazy or something because I found it to be seriously offensive (it's a very chemical sort of odor, I ended up cutting the rubber off from the most-used tools and throwing it out). The basting brush is COMPLETELY USELESS the bristles are made from a plastic-based material, so guess what happens when you try to baste a hot piece of meat? They melt, if you're lucky they just melt together and not right into your piece of chicken...This probably matches the smelly, off-gasing rubber gribs in terms of stupidity...Anyway, I would recomend getting some other tools, they are probably more expensive for a reason..

Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel Blade

Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel BladeHello!

I was looking for a review of this device because I've had it for some time 2 yrs. approx:. I didn't purchase it here but as a whim buy at a local Tuesday Morning store in Atlants on clearance priced under a Hamilton. I keep mine on the frig. door. I find it handy for making sauces and delivering butter staright to the pan and nice pats for pancakes, waffles or toast. I have given my mother one and she loves it to due to her arthritis flare ups.

This butter cutter is a goofy, gimmicky thing, but believe it or not, it actually does work.

Now, you may be saying "Nothing a knife can't do just as well", right? Yes, but then you have to wash the knife, or use a plastic knife that gets gunky and gross, especially if you live with boys. We're perpetually out of clean knives, usually because they're all in the dishwasher awaiting the next cycle.

I got tired of never having clean knives, so I figured $12 for the butter cutter wouldn't put me too out of sorts if it was as hokey as it looks. However, when it arrived, loading a stick of butter was a painless process. Using the clicking handle to dispense perfectly proportioned slabs of butter for easy spreading is pretty awesome, and I've found that it has lots of uses.

One little pat of butter:

per bagel half

in mashed potatoes

in vegetables and rice

in the frying pan

etc

The results are also a big hit when I host fancy dinner parties and everyone has restaurant-style buns and neat, perfectly formed little butter pats artfully arranged. The devil's in the details, after all, and the butter cutter will help you impress your friends.

Previous reviewers have done the hard work for you and me and and I've verified that, indeed, 4 pats = 1 tablespoon of butter. No guessing, no broken bits of butter littering the countertop, no half-opened sticks of butter in the fridge to pick up dirt and smells.

Know what the best part is? Since I got the butter cutter, we've used a lot less butter overall. How's that for health benefits from a seemingly goofy product?

Of course, it's not perfect, but these are all little nitpicks and oddities specific to this butter cutter:

it's a little bulky, but it fits just fine in my fridge's butter area

sometimes if you press too quickly, the butter pats will fold around the blade and stuff themselves up against the large opening in the back, but a good shake will make the pat come right out

if you're at the end of the stick (half a tablespoon or less), sometimes the blade will miss and you'll get the remaining butter dumped out, so it's not 100% precise

no "butter almost empty" visual indicator (see above). If it had some kind of transparent window, I think that'd be neat and useful.

Minor flaws aside, this butter cutter has really been worth the money for me. In fact, I'm going to buy another one (or maybe even two!) for when I start making infused butters again. Easy-spread garlic butter, anybody?

Buy Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel Blade Now

We bought the butter cutter about 3 months ago now. I am in love with this little gadget and plan to buy them as easy Christmas presents for my family next year. Each click is 1/4 tbsp so four clicks equals 1 tbsp. My 7 year old and 4 year old can easily use it (no more mess) and we've been able to relegate our butter dish to the china cabinet to save for special occasions. The nice thing is the butter pats are thin enough that even cold from the fridge butter melts quickly on hot toast. Cooking is easier now as well, 4 clicks = 1 tbsp of butter. Using this I quickly realized that I was frequently over estimating how large 1 tbsp of butter is. Our butter sticks last much longer now! I'm not a big fan of numerous kitchen gadgets that only do one job well, but without a doubt this is one of the best I've bought in awhile so I can forgive the fact that it only slices butter.

We've only had this a couple of days, but so far each and every cut has remained in the bottom of the cutter and you need to use your fingers (or something else) to release the butter. I'll try a different brand and size and see if that makes a difference.

The first stick (Pulgra...absolutely the best butter) we are using is the longer, more narrow stick. I did have to cut the block before putting it in the butter cutter but is was a precision cut and any of the longer sticks would have the same issue.

I did watch the video on the butter cutter web site and it shows in the demonstration the guy was jerking the cutter down as he was slicing it. I tried that and it did not work.

Want Inventions for Market One Click Stick Butter Cutter with Stainless Steel Blade Discount?

I have tried several of these butter cutters and this one is the best! Note that it uses the long cubes of butter, not the short fats ones. Land Of Lakes is the only brand we have here in Missoula Montana that are the correct size for this cutter. Half sticks are fine as you just insert two.

It is so easy to use but if your butter is hard, of course it's harder to press and cut the butter. I'm not that strong in my hands but I can work it fine. Let it sit out for a bit and as the butter softens, the easier it is to cut...don't let it sit out too long as you might have a mess on your hands....

I love that I can just click a pat into the skillet to cook an egg, or click to add to a recipe. So easy! I just love it! I would recommend to all my cooking friends!

Masterchef 13-Piece Knife Set with Block, Red

Masterchef 13-Piece Knife Set with Block, RedI was hoping that I was just getting a great deal on a cool knife set, but this is a case of getting what you pay for. These knives feel cheap, look cheap, and in general don't perform. They're all serrated knives, so the use for them is limited, and I would say the only thing I like about the entire thing is the scissors. Those I actually use, but ended up buying a whole new knife set at ikea for cheaper (and they perform MUCH better and feel substantial rather than cheap).

Update International KGE-10 Stainless Steel Forged Cimeter Knife, 11-Inch

Update International KGE-10 Stainless Steel Forged Cimeter Knife, 11-InchThis knife does the job it was intended for well. I was looking for a replacement to the straight carving knives that I have and decided I wanted a cimeter type blade.

I have used the high carbon German steel blade to break down beef ribs, carve a turkey, and slice pork roast. It comes sharp out of the package. The spine is 3mm (1/8 inch) thick. and the blade has the nice upswept bade geometry you'd expect in a cimeter. The handle scales on mine do not quite fit flush with the haft. This probably indicates some quality control issues in the assembly area. This is the reason I only gave it four stars.

It has the feel of a short sword. I couldn't resist a few bottle cut tests. The blade cuts through 2 liter filled soda bottles effortlessly. The blade did require some touching up after. So it would make a great back up for home or zombie defense.

I am currently in culinary school, have some background in the restaurant business, and have worked at a butchershop for over a year, most of our knives are provided by us, so we dont usually spend a lot, out of all the knives at the shop this is the best

out of the box the edge is a little bit weak, I gave it some TLC with a 300/1000 grit whetstone and a good honing and it came righ up, now it slices through a nice ribeye with no problem

Really an excellent knife for the price

This is truly a great knife! It is much better than i expected it to be for the price. It is huge, it's almost a small sword. It was extremely sharp when i got it, no need to sharpen. The handle is solid and strong. Not a single complaint about it. Good buy, I wouldn't waste money buying a more expensive one, you get good quality and a good price.

Waterford Mont Clare 18/10 Stainless Steel 65-Piece Set, Service for 12

Waterford Mont Clare 18/10 Stainless Steel 65-Piece Set, Service for 12This flatware is exactly as described. It is 18/10 stainless steel, perfect weight, and the design is very comfortable while using. Does well in the dishwasher, or even sitting in the sink if not washed the same day....no rusting issues. I had my doubts ordering online without being able to touch the silverware first to test weight and comfort, but I'm extremely pleased with this set.

I wanted a stainless steel flatware set that had several attributes. It had to be modest, practical and above all functional. This Waterford Mont Clare set met the requirements with ease and even surpassed my desires.

Any person's description of looks cannot withstand another person's description in most instances and I guess that is why there are so many patterns on the market. I liked the looks of the set and am delighted that I now have it. It is better looking in person than in the picture. Even though I considered other brands I found this set to be a notch above them both in cost, appearance and quality.

The quality of the pieces is demonstrated by my bend test. I took each piece and attempted to bend it and failed. It won and so did I. The set this set replaced was from another maker and even though it too is 18/10 stainless it is not the same quality by far. The instigator for changing sets came from the constant abrasion from the forks' (dinner and salad) poor job of eliminating stamping imperfections. That's a minor infraction but an annoying one for me. Additionally, when I "stab" a piece of food I do not expect a poorly made fork to blast it off the table because it has been so poorly stamped. There is none of that in the Waterford set. The forks stab with no issue.

Another issue that generated action was utensil balance coupled with its utility. Strange description I agree but I like a knife or fork that not only has heft but balance of purpose. A butt-heavy knife that falls off the side of the plate is a pain. The same with a spoon or fork. Stand by. Here it comes. These utensils are balanced and do not fall off the plate.

By now if you are still here this is a fantastic set and I am so glad that it shares space in our everyday drawer with the other useful kitchen tools.

This is a beautiful set of flatware! It is reasonably priced with a nice weight and finish, and it is the larger continental size. I will use this everyday and for special occasions and holidays...it's that pretty! I can't vouch for its endurance and/or its resistance to rust as I've only had it a little over a week. Only time will tell, but so far, so good. I bought this set sight unseen, and I couldn't be more pleased with it!

We looked around at a number of flatware sets, paying attention to the grade of stainless claimed by the manufacturer, reviews made by previous purchasers, etc. We have been very happy with this set. The weight is substantial, but not too heavy. We feel the size and overall scale of each piece, including the teaspoon, is 'just right'. We are not the most fastidious of 'clean up after the nice big meal' folks, but even when we've left this flatware in the sink for several days, with water wetting and drying them several times a day in the normal course of events, rinsing food off of other plates etc--we haven't had even a hint of rust--not that you should expect such. Our water is actually pretty 'hard'--(we use no softener) and again, no spotting, other than occasionally a bit of white calcification from the water wetting and drying on an occasional tablespoon--I think just about ANY flatware would have this and we were in fact inviting such by basically not taking proper care. But hey, this is the 'real world' in our house and this tableware is just fine and still looks great--it cleans up well when we get around to it--good for Sunday company, etc. We haven't used the dishwasher--we just don't care for using the dishwasher, but I 'think' with decent dishwashing detergent, you'll be fine--again, we just don't use dishwashers--just an educated guess on that.

It is nice a enough set that I don't think most people will feel a need for a second set for 'company', although some people just 'have to have' real sterling silver and perhaps they enjoy removing tarnish, or paying others to do so.

I think it makes a rather nice gift for newlyweds, and if money's an issue,I think most couples would feel that even if a couple friends 'went in' on the purchase together, that the quality of a gift they got in this complete set still would show generosity and an eye for long lasting quality. It looks and feels like it's more expensive than it actually is and I'm pretty sure they'll last longer and look better than most embroidered towels do, after a few years!

As indicated, we're a bit hard on our flatware and this holds up well and stays looking nice, but I have noticed if you use the typical green abrasive on one side and yellow sponge on the other side scrub pads,(ie the typical scotch 3m) the highly abrasive green side can leave 'swirl' marks on the metal, so we try and use just the yellow side. So common sense would have you avoiding highly abrasive scrubbers, as this flatware is finished to a very bright, high chromium looking shine--mirror like in fact. It looks great on a white cloth napkin. It's not really soft stainless steel or more prone to showing light scratches or swirls than other polished silverware we've seen/had, but a little common sense should make keeping this set looking great for years, w/o having to baby it or worry about leaving it in the sink a while.

These silverware pieces are ornate and elegant, but not so 'busy' looking to the point where they appear ostentatious, nor are there are too many ridges and recessed parts that make sink cleaning a pain. Sure there are some folks who look for the 'name' on the bottom of every piece of silver, plate and cup and for most of them, (not that I really care) the name "Waterford" should elicit a 'hmmm' in their status addled brains. This 'silver' goes well with fine bone china AND paper plates.

In summary, these flatware pieces look and feel great, are an excellent value, seem to hold up very well and even if you have a rich snooty uncle and aunt or two, they'll probably still pass muster. Sure you don't expect Waterford made in China and some may have personal issues with that, but they must have set up the plant with quality in mind first and then most importantly, excellent quality control at the end of the line. I think we'd have a hard time finding such a nice set--one that we think will last, at this price elsewhere.

Oh--(geeze--why do I always write lil 'review novels'?) we followed this flatware set's price on Amazon for a month or so, noting the price goes up and down a bit (although not a great amount either way on this item) and although at one time we saw it for a few bucks less 'over' on another site, we KNEW that if we had any issues with this set out of the box or a few weeks later, that Amazon would 'make it right'. For a few extra bucks (IF that's even the case) on something you'll use just about everyday, that would be a small price to pay (if any) for the peace of mind we get purchasing from amazing Amazon!

I was disappointed in this flatware. It is manufactured in China, and is not the quality that we had come to associate with Waterford. The finish is fine. But, the back of each fork and spoon is imprinted with a stamp, and inked with China. This adds to the cleaning process. They are not uniformly bent, so do not nest together. The table knives are stamped single piece construction. Not at all what we paid for. There is no edge to them, either. The blades are blunt all the way around, and not capable of cutting anything! Thoroughly, thoroughly disappointed. These must be a knockoff product and shame on Amazon for selling them. It is a travesty to even advertise this set as Fine Flatware. Not at all any good. Unfortunately, we live in Africa, and this is not something we can return.

Cheese Wire, 39"

Cheese Wire, 39'I love this product. I bought it for cutting a cheesecake and mousse cake. It gives great clean slices, but you do have to wipe it clean between slices, as you would do with a knife. I didn't pay attention to the length of the wire when I ordered it and it was really long. I used wire cutters, cut the wire and made it my desired length and am very very happy with it.

Too large for most home cook's use. Probably best suited for commercial (restaurant) usage.

Seems a quality USA made product. Looks like it is made in SC. The wood toggles are a bit large. The story goes that "cheese cutters" inspired SOE in terms of using a cutter style garrote in WW2. Would these work for that? Dunno. But...you can display them with a collection of weaponry and it is close enough.

Kershaw 9900 Series 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set with Bamboo Block

Kershaw 9900 Series 7-Piece Stainless-Steel Knife Set with Bamboo BlockI got these years ago from my mother. They are AMAZING! I love the rubber grip handles and they have stayed sharp on their own for about 10 years! Someone bent the tip a little on one of them and I was curious about the potential of replacing them. At this price I think I'll just fix it myself and resharpen them.

I prefer Gerber knives for hunting/pocket knives but since owning these I have purchased other Kershaws and they are very high quality. When the time comes I WILL repurchase these.

These are amazing knives and really sharp. 20 Years ago my husband purchased a set of these knives for me and I have loved them ever since. They sharpen well when needed and are still going strong for me.

NOW, my complaint is: I purchased this set of knives for my mother and father for Christmas and as I was using the butcher knife which is the longest knife I noticed that it wasn't just like my set. The end of the knife that attaches to the handle is not covered all the way and is somewhat sharp since it comes to a point like a corner, my knife is covered and fits in the handle just like all the rest of the knifes. This one to me is very dangerous. I called amazon to exchange them and they graciously said yes and and so I waited and when I got the e-mail it showed a refund minus a restocking fee. NOT what I wanted at all since I thought the one knife was just a mistake from the manufactures. I wanted an exchange, So I call them and they did make it right with me only now I have to reorder them and guess what the price is now up $20. I really wanted the knives, but I can tell from the pictures that the butcher knife is made the same way so maybe they are all like that. So in my opinion buyer beware!
