NEW ROBOT COUPE 3/4 HP COMBINATION FOOD PROCESSOR R100 R101

NEW ROBOT COUPE 3/4 HP COMBINATION FOOD PROCESSOR R100 R101I use this R100 at work and it is underpowered and lacks options. The work bowl is too small for bigger jobs. The grey bowls are inferior to clear bowls. I purchased a 14 cup (3.5 quart) Cuisinart at home and it works much better, stronger motor, includes more options, and has a much better bowl capcity by a full quart. The price difference is very substantial; even without consideration of price, the Cuisinart is far superior.

That being said, I use the RobotCoupe R2 and an R3 at other work places and they are very powerful and xuperior to the Cuisinart; but their cost is prohibitive unless you can business justify them. That being said, Robotcoupe has some great (and expensive) options for the R2 that MAY fit the R100, but it will still will be underpowered.

Don't waste your money on the R100.

Absolutely awesome!

I've been using it for over 2 years, did not buy any additional disks, it come with 3 and that's plenty good, but you can buy some really neat ones if you are into parties.

Make sure you choose a clear bowl as it fills up fast.

I grate mushrooms, zucchinis, apples, and many other veggies.

I was considering Kitchen Aid, but it looked flimsy, just as expensive and who needs 12 speeds and 12 discs?

I'm glad that R100 is being offered through Amazon.

You won't be sorry for buying it.

Stainless Steel Dots 11 Slots Knife Holder

Stainless Steel Dots 11 Slots Knife HolderI have a whole set of Global knives. This holder looks great and is very functional. I am not a fan of wooden blocks. Most non-wooden blocks do not hold knives in a way as to not hurt the blade. This knife block allows the knives to sit in their slots without ever touching the blade. It has thick holes for the forged knives and thin ones for the stamped knives. It also has a hole for your sharpener.

I have a full set of Global knives. This holder looks great holds my knives in position without damaging the blade. It has thick holes for the 6-9 inch knives, and thin holes for the smaller 3-6 inch knives. The best way to clean this holder is to used car wax, not water. I use the same car wax on my LG stainless steel refrigerator.

This is a great kitchen item and it matches perfectly the color scheme of a stainless steel kitchen.

Recipient was very pleased with this as he owns several global knives and likes the extra space to add knives one at a time as the need for them arises. Block has a high-tech look and has a quality fit and finish.

I was very disappointed with this Global knife block. It's a cheap plastic knife block wrapped in aluminum with black stickers on it. Very light weight and does not complement the excellent build quality of the Global knifes it holds. For over $150 + I expected a much better quality product.

Also, the item I received had obviously been returned to the Amazon seller (cookdazzle.com) by other customers. The box was ripped and covered with three fluorescent stickers, there were fingerprints all over the knife block, and there was no literature inside. I've had good luck with other Amazon sellers in the past, but I'll avoid anything from cookdazzle.com in the future.

Global 11 Slot Stainless Steel Knife Block w/DotsI purchased this product for a Christmas present. It was a difficult product to find because most cutlery holders are made of wood. I specifically wanted "stainless" to compliment a recent kitchen makeover.

For almost $200, I was pretty shocked. It is very lightweight and looks like it didn't cost more than a couple of bucks to make. I would have sent it back, but I didn't have time to research another one and get it shipped to me in time. I am very disappointed.

CIA Masters Collection 7-Inch Fillet Knife

CIA Masters Collection 7-Inch Fillet KnifeITS VERY SHARP, This knife helped me to understand why the swords were made with forged construction.

This is really the sharpest knife I have ever used. It come with a great packaging in a box. Though this is very sharp but I can't use it for daily purpose as I am afraid that I might chop my figures. well overall I would rate this as an outstanding knife.

This knife is the BOMB!!! I love it! BE CAREFUL. CIA KNIFE = REAL SHARP. Want to know how sharp? I knocked it off my counter, anticipating it spearing my foot, and it landed right in the floor, standing on tip before falling over. It pierced my floor and stood up all by itself. Thats a sharp knife. Great for slicing everything!

It has a well made handle and a thin flexible blade made of German steel. It came sharp but I put a super sharp edge on it. Haven't used it on fish yet. I have used it as a light duty chef knife/slicer. Works great. You can't go wrong for about $13.

I wasn't sure what to expect with such a low price although it looks good in the pic but it came in a very impressive lined gift box and the knife is finished well too. It has a very thin flexible blade as stated in the description with a sharp finished edge. Although its a fillet knife I wanted it mainly for thin slicing of veggies ect. I will try it on fish too and update my review. Good deal no matter what...

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 7-Piece Block Set

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 7-Piece Block SetThese were a Christmas gift from my parents. I requested these specifically after doing several months of research on knives.

Many knife manufacturers come up with so many different 'lines' for their knives that the consumer has no idea what the hell he's looking at. It took me months to research these knives and determine they were the best value. Why?

Henckels has two major lines: 'Twin' and 'International.' Twin are made in Europe, International are made in China. Within the 'Twin' classification are about five or six different lines, from 'gourmet' to 'pro-s' with a lot in-between, but only two types of blade construction are found within this line!

Basically, when you buy a knife, you're either buying 'forged' steel--a blade produced all from one piece of metal in a multi-step process that requires much skilled labor for every blade--or 'stamped' steel, a mass-production method where the blade is cut from a sheet of cold-rolled steel. Needless to say, forged is better. And anything from China is almost certainly going to be a 'stamped' blade.

But Henckels is spreading two types of blade construction across five or six different brands, each more expensive than the last. They differentiate their knives by more ergonomic handles.

Seriously. That's the difference. This $170 kit contains all but two of the most fundamental cooking knives (what's missing is a slicer/carver, steak knives, and a bread knife). These can easily be added to the kit and still yield a much lower price than the 'full' kits of more expensive lines. It is the absolute cheapest set of FORGED Henckels blades, anywhere. The exact same blade can be purchased with a slightly different handle in the Five Star, Pro-S, and even Four Star II sets (that's right--Henckels made a new line that is much more expensive to replace these and doubled the price. The difference is a metal cap on the handle).

The 'Gourmet' and 'Signature' lines are, frankly, a waste of your time. They are stamped blades.

Henckels' forging method is spectacular and they are a company worthy of your business. But you are a customer who deserves to get the right value. This is the right value. And it's probably discontinued by Henckels now in lieu of the much more expensive Four Star II line, intended to replace these and give them a much better margin on their sales.

After spending weeks going between the Calphalon Katanas, Wustofs classic, and the plethora of Zwilling knives I finally made the decision to purchase this set. I didn't choose the Katanas because they didn't seem to hold an edge very long and it didn't feel that great in my hand. The Wustofs I decided were too pricey because after all, I am not a professional chef, but I still want a quality set of knifes that will last me a long time.

After looking through the various Zwilling series, I discovered that there is very little difference between this older model of knife compared to the newest lines out. Here is a breakdown of the differences in the lines:

TWIN Professional `S' full tang, three rivet traditional handle

Four Star original molded handle knife

Four Star II updated version of the four star upscale knife, original molded handle with a metal cap on the end.

TWIN ProfectionFull tang, three rivet design of the poly handle is ergonomic, fitting the grip perfectly.

The new bolster design provides solid, balanced feel giving a full cutting edge.

The blades are the same on all of the above. One is not considered better than the other all have special formulated steel made to Zwilling J.A. Henckels' specifications and all are Friodur® ice-hardened, a process of heating, cooling and re-heating that changes the molecular structure of the blade for optimum no-stain features and an extremely long-lasting edge.

So when you see that the new 7 piece Four Star II set is $299 and the other sets are even more expensive, you can see the value in this $169. I purchased mine at Bed Bath with a 20% and the matching steak knives. It's a sweet deal.

Lastly, do these things cut! I used to have the Henckels International line. There is no comparison between the two. The balance, edge, and sturdiness of these are fantastic.

I was a chef for 11 years, and early on I learned the necessity of owning top quality knives.

I purchased a set of J.A. Henckels Four Star knives in 1987, and I am still using them today -a quarter-century later. They have survived two divorces (not my ex's fault; the knives were far sharper than I was), a dozen moves back and forth cross-country, and most important: daily use, week in & week out, in professional kitchens and at home.

When it comes to chef's knives, as with so many other things, you DO get what you pay for, so my advice is simple: Buy the best knives your budget allows for, take the time to learn how to use them* and care for them**, and they will last a lifetime.

*Proper use includes how to hold your knives, the correct strokes for cutting, paring, etc., and the proper cutting surfaces.

**Learn how to keep your knives sharp with stone & steel, how to clean them and how to store them.

J. A. Henckels' knives are an investment well worth the money; they will make cooking far less stressful and a lot more fun for many years to come.

I bought these knives for my first-time homeowner son, as a housewarming gift, because I had accumulated a number of the 4-star knives for myself.

As I told my son the musician -a good knife is like a musical instrument, you have to keep it "in tune" (sharpened) for it to work at its best. A good, sharpened knife can be poetry in motion, for those who like to cook. But it has to be sharpened to stay like that -otherwise, the "never need sharpening" knives would be a better choice. I run my knives through a two-wheel manual sharpener about every 2 or 3 times I use them. I use an electrical knife sharpener about once or twice a year.

The handles on the 4-star can discolor (whiten) if regularly washing in a dishwasher with powdered detergent. I usually wash mine manually, but I will put them in a top rack occasionally, and I use a gel detergent.

This is a great set of knives for those who don't mind sharpening frequently. I hang mine on a magnetic knife holder, I don't care for a block on the countertop. I am a bit envious -there is a Santoku knife in this set that I don't have. Because I have small hands, I use the 6" chef knife instead of the 8". I have the 3" paring knife; the 4" would be a good addition to my set.

This set seems to be discontinued, and has been replaced with the Twin Four Star II line of knives. I'm not sure what the difference is the only thing I can tell is the handles on the new II series have a metal cap on the end of them which to me seems merely cosmetic. Regardless, these are some of the best knives I've ever used. Granted, I'm not a chef, and I've never owned anything nicer then a Calphalon knife, but these things are amazing. They feel like a precision tool in your hands, cutting through anything you throw at it smoothly and with ease. I recently visited family for the holidays and had to cook for a week with an inferior brand of knife, and it amazed me how spoiled you get with Henckels knives. I'll never use anything else again!! For $169 these are a great value and I would highly recommend them to everyone considering a good set of knives for their kitchen!!! I'm feel like a chef in the making with these!

Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive Corer

Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive CorerHad a long discussion with our local kitchen store owner and looked at her stock. It looked like this cherry stoner would be the most efficient. It has a curved plate that holds the cherry in place as the pit remover is extracted from the fruit. It works just as well as I thought it would.

It extracts most pits cleanly without losing any of the fruit and the cherry drops out of the tool with a flick. Once I got a rhythm going, and realized that the the fastest extraction happens with the cherry inserted sideways, I was processing a cherry about every couple of seconds. It's not quite as fast as the old hopper feeder/lever action model I grew up with but almost. It also doesn't mangle the cherries like that did. They come out looking nice. It's a good thing that cherries ripen in mid summer so I could pit them over the glass patio table. Juicy cherries can be messy. Inside a sink works too but why waste a summer day?

If there's any negative it would be that this is made of plastic. It is certainly more fragile than a metal model. Though using it for a couple of hours a year I don't see that durability should be a problem. On the other hand, that plastic makes it very inexpensive.

I works well for Calamari olives too. The tool holds the larger fruit size just fine.

I like this pitter. It works easily, and ejects the pit completely, even from the largest cherries. Reviews of other pitters say that they don't always push the pit completely out, but that is not a problem with this one.

The scissors action makes it easy to use. It's a good idea to work over a bowl because the pit can come shooting out with some force, so you can eject a pit across a room if you're not careful. Then again, you might find that fun to do!

There is a part that prevents the cherry from sticking to the "piston" that pushes out the pit, so you don't have to pull the cherry out. It just falls out. Hard to find any fault with this tool.

I bought 2 of these when I saw our cherry tree would bear fruit this year. My wife and I did 5 cups of cherries in a few minutes. The fruit remained whole and attractive. The stone just flies out! This is a good pitter period. And so inexpensive I recommend buying extras to use as gifts. Wear an old shirt or apron as there may be some spray. We did ours outside at our picnic table on newspapers so we did not have much clean up. If you can use a paper punch then you are qualified to operate this gem. A+

I have a favourite recipe that calls for 4 cups of olives and the only way to buy these particular olives is with the pit still in, so I really need a good pitter... and this is NOT it.

This cherry/olive pitter is (obviously) plastic, but unfortunately it's a plastic that's not as strong as my olives. Even standard green olives are too much for this weak plastic gadget. I have felt like I was going to break the plastic handle when squeezing to get the pit out (really tough on your hands, too); the plastic didn't break, but it did bend (INSTEAD of pushing the pit out).

Save your money for a strong metal cherry/olive pitter if you plan on using this more than once.

On the really soft olives it works great, though... but so do my fingers.

Want Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive Corer Discount?

I just received this item a few days ago. I tried it out by making candied cherries, which required pitting about a pound of cherries. It worked fine, though if you do not hit the stone right on center, it might not eject the stone. On balance, not a big problem. I just kept a small spoon handy for this very occasional problem, which was still MUCH easier to deal with than cutting the pit out of a pile of cherries by other means.

Take note that those who did not like this device were generally talking about using it for olives, while those who did were talking about pitting cherries. If you are pitting mass quantities of cherries, you might not be crazy about it, because you are dealing with one cherry at a time. Given my modest needs (probably typical of the home cook), this device works just fine.

Miyabi Kaizen 5 1/2-Inch Granton Santoku Hollow Edge Knife

Miyabi Kaizen 5 1/2-Inch Granton Santoku Hollow Edge KnifeWhen I received the package, I noticed the interior box containing the knife had been opened. When I examined the knife, I noted that the Miyabi Granton Model 34194-153 I'd ordered had been replaced with a Miyabi 5000DP, Model 34194-150.

The knife appears to have the same technical specifications as the one I ordered; however, I don't like the idea that it was substituted without any explanation. I looked up the Miyabi 5000DP on the internet and cannot find information on it. I don't know whether it's a Chinese knock-off or not.

Mundial 5807-5 5-Inch Curved Semi-Stiff Boning Knife, Black

Mundial 5807-5 5-Inch Curved Semi-Stiff Boning Knife, BlackI have butchered several kinds of tasty animals using this knife, and it's excellent. The handle is easy to grasp, ergonomically pleasing, and retains its grip even when greasy or bloody, though is far safer when clean. The blade is well shaped, has exactly the stiffness yet flexibility needed for everything from breaking down beef or pork halves to cutting up a chicken for dinner. If you work or learn in an environment where many people have their own knives, the unique serial number on the blade will settle any and all ownership disputes. The knife arrives factory razor sharp, and is easy to keep that way on a waterstone. If you mess up in spite of its inherently safer design and construction, you WILL cut yourself badly it works on you meat every bit as well as it works on food meat. I do not see this as a detriment, it just means it does exactly what it's supposed to do. As all knives of its type, this is meant to have the hell used out of it and then replaced once it's been sharpened down to a needle. At the $17 I paid for it, that's a whole lot of hell you get for your money.

If you use a boning knife a lot, you want to have this one in your knife kit.

Cuisinart CA-X Open Stock 7-Inch Bread Knife

Cuisinart CA-X Open Stock 7-Inch Bread KnifeBought this to replace a worn-out low-end Henckels knife. Does not work as well as the old knife that I threw away. Rips bread rather than cuts it. Awful. Will recycle and get a 5* mid-range Henckels.

A well-made, likely durable knife, with well-formed blade. At 7 inches, not well suited for some larger breads or for other uses where a serrated blade can be handy. In this product niche, some blades are 8 or more inches, so make sure your needs match this length.

Pfaltzgraff Satin Danford 53-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Pfaltzgraff Satin Danford 53-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8Well, you get what you pay for. After seeing these in person, I'm positive there's no way this set costs $90 at retail. That price would be an absolute joke to pay. After applying a promotional code I had, I ended up paying $25 for this set and I wouldn't pay more than that for it. I'll keep the set because I just moved and need flatware and I can always buy better later; it will serve the purpose for now, but it's definitely not high quality. Had I seen it in a store, I'd have passed on it immediately.

These look much thicker and sturdier in the photo than they actually are. The smaller spoons and forks actually almost feel like the thickness and weight of plastic flatware. Despite being thin and lightweight, they don't bend super easily, but I'm certain I could bend every piece if I put effort into it. On the plus side, the finish on the pieces is represented well in the photo. The handles are a matte finish and the tops of the pieces are shiny. The steak knives have low quality black plastic handles. They're going to the back of the drawer probably never to be used.

I'm surprised these have the Pfaltzgraff name on them. All of their other flatware that I've seen and used has been of a substantial weight and good quality. These are definitely not up to par, but still a functional, cheap option as a beginning set.

Preserve Cutting Board Plastic Small Red Tomato

Kitchen Supplies Red Tomato Cutting Boards Small 10'' x 8'' - 1 pc,(Preserve)Great idea, but the cutting board was warped. This makes it unstable and it spins easily about the bump in the back. The bottom surface is textured, so little rubber feet don't stick well. There is no way to use it safely (as received): it takes one hand to hold the food, one to hold the knife and one to hold the cutting board. Think Murphy's law makes the curved part spin around under the knife? Think again: most cuts require a front to back motion that turns the board under your knife. I thought about sending it back to them to recycle it, but after grinding four flats on the bottom with a Dremel and adding rubber feet it is now stable. At this point, the board works pretty well (and my daughter likes the color). But at the very least it should come with rubber feet.

Messermeister Pro-Touch 4-1/4-Inch Mini Santoku with Sheath

Messermeister Pro-Touch 4-1/4-Inch Mini Santoku with SheathI bought this mini Santoku just recently for I wanted a knife in this design that was a little smaller than the 5 inch or better average. At around $8.00 I wasn't expecting much for sure. And that's just what I got. Don't even consider this for a kitchen knife. Though the handle is nice and thick and very comfortable, the blade is as thin and cheap as they come. You can bend it easily with your fingers, and it will disintegrate quickly with any sharpening. It's ok as a utility knife for your drawer or back yard shed, (which is where my ended up), but that's about all. A plastic sheath is included so you can tuck it away somewhere as a handy knife without worry of slicing yourself with it when fishing it out. Not bad at all for small miscellaneous jobs, but as a kitchen utensil, its a big fat NO......

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Starter Set

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Starter SetThe first set of knives I ever purchased was a Henckels block about five years ago, for which I paid about a hundred dollars and thought I was really splurging. It was adequate for a while but now I find myself using the serrated edge bread knife for most cutting chores as all the other knives haven't held a decent edge.

Looking for a decent cook's knife last year, research indicated that lots of people liked the Wusthof brand, and the Culinar line in particular looked very good as well. I thought a hundred and forty dollars was an awful lot of money for two knives but they didn't disappoint in the least. They are tremendously sharp and hold their edge very well.

I have given this set to my mother in law, who has every knife she ever bought and tends to use them to open letters and remove door hinges and so on, so you can imagine their condition. She is now a convert and uses them all the time, and I am looking for a set of my own.
