Calphalon Contemporary 10-Inch Sharpening Steel

Calphalon Contemporary 10-Inch Sharpening SteelSo far so good. Does a much better job, faster than the cheap ones. It's the longevity that I wonder about. This one is thick, heavy and not cheap, so my expectations are high.

This is a "must have" item in the kitchen if you own and use quality cuttlery. One of the best cuttlery lines for the price on the market today. Every piece you need is listed on line by Amazon.

MinoSharp Medium Stone Sharpening Kit

MinoSharp Medium Stone Sharpening KitThis is a quality whetstone, and it works really well. This is my first attempt at home sharpening, so I started with pocket and hunting knives to practice my technique before letting my Globals touch this. The guides do a nice job of making you keep the correct angle for Global knives. If you are tired of trying to find somewhere to sharpen your Global knives, then you should buy this whetstone! With a little practice, I am able to keep my knives almost factory sharp.

I do not personally own one, but my sushi senai does, and it works great! I've used it on my blue steel yanagi. ( a 350 dollar blade) And for you home sharpeners out there if you are sharpening western style knives put a penny between the blade and the stone to help measure out the proper angle

This is a great product, and I got it at the same price here as I would have anywhere else online.

If you are in culinary school, I would recommend you shop around at local stores first since they often have student discounts you won't find online.

If you are a home user, I would recommend buying an informative book on knife care so you don't destroy your stone/blades while trying to make them sharper.

My only knock: be very careful with the guides. You have to clean the insides very carefully and that can be difficult since there isn't much space. The second time I used them they scratched my new and very nice paring knife quite badly.

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Wind Mirror 12-Piece Flatware Set

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Wind Mirror 12-Piece Flatware SetThis set is a a little unusual because it skips the traditional soup spoon and dessert fork that most sets like to include. I don't have much use for those things myself, so it fills my needs perfectly. For a cheap dinner set for a studio apartment it's perfect. The pieces are a little light so you can tell they aren't particularly expensive, but the design looks great and I think they'll still be fairly durable. The packaging was very nice as well.

For someone in a small apartment this set is about perfect. If you live with roommates, or your family, or entertain frequently, you'll probably want a larger set. For the price, however, it's excellent in terms of looks and feel.

EDITI've now owned the set for 4 months. The knives have developed a bit of rust where the blade connects to the handlejust a thin line at the seam, on all four of the knives. This doesn't change my score, but if you or your guests will be disturbed (and you'll have to be looking closely) you might want to invest in some more expensive silverware. Aside from this flaw, the set is still performing well for me and is still a good value at the price.

I bought the product a week ago, and it started rusting already. It's a cheap and low-quality product. I am really disappointed.

We bought this set to use at work, but we clean the utensils in our dishwasher at home. We have had some trouble with rusty or other funny spots appearing after washing, even after the first few uses. This could be partially due to our dishwasher detergent, which we didn't realize contained citrus. Apparently this is a no-no, and we have switched, but it still seems to happen occasionally. If you hand-wash, this probably wouldn't be a problem.

My wife also believes the utensils have a 'metallic' taste; I haven't really noticed.

Otherwise, this flatware is OK. The food makes it to my mouth most of the time, so...

Fox Run Oyster Knife

Fox Run Oyster KnifeI used this item for several months without any major problems. The length of the blade occationaly caused difficulty in cutting the top sphinter muscle, but otherwise was adequate for the task. I recently obtained some oysters which were significantly larger than those previously purchased. Unfortunately, in trying to open the larger oysters, the blade snapped off. It was necessary for me to revert back to the old tool commonaly used by casual oyster shuckers; a large flat bladed screwdriver. I would recommend this knife, with a caveaut, to only use it when shucking small to medium oysters.

Zwilling JA Henckels TWIN Pro-S Chef's Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 8-inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's KnifeI recently purchased this knife and am overjoyed with the performance. If you don't have a well balanced professional knife you can't imagine how nice it is to work with one. I went to the local restaurant supply stores and handled several brands and sizes to see what felt best. The Henckels Pro S 8" was the best. The 10" seemed top heavy but I'm sure someone else may feel different. The blade holds an incredible edge as well. I steel the blade before each use to keep the edge in the best cutting condition.

The 8" chef knife is an absolute joy to use in the kitchen. It actually makes prep work enjoyable. Chopping, slicing, dicing, etc. are now effortless. It's razor sharp and stays honed that way for quite sometime under heavy use. I am very good at maintaing its edge by hand, and its high quality carbon steel blade lends itself perfectly to this task compared to stainless steel blades. If you purchase a quality knife such as this, it is imperative that you maintain its edge preferably via manual sharpining or with an electric sharpener.

You can spend a lot more on a knife, but you won't buy any better performance where it counts, in the kitchen. Made of sharpenable stainless with a synthetic handle that will never loosen or break apart, this knife has a nice heft and a good edge and should last most home chefs a lifetime. Give it a few strokes with the steel every time you use it and the edge will last for years without needing to see a sharpening stone.

If your cutlery drawer is full of various inexpensive supermarket blades, "miracle" knives and the like, throw them all out and buy one decent blade like this, and you may be amazed how versatile a simple, quality knife can be.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels "Pro S" cutlery is by far the most advanced on the planet. Hand-crafted in Solingen, Germany since the early 1700's. The blade is high-carbon steel, ice-hardended by Henckel's proprietary FrioDur process. The blade is then laser-honed to tolerances of less than one-thousandth of an inch. The black acrylic (?) molded handle is permanently bonded to the full tang (which is fully visible all the way around) then riveted. Not only does this create a virtually indestructible knife, it is also quite attractive. The handle is perfectly suited to how the knife should be held...even a novice can effectively use them as if by second nature. The weight is just right not so light you can't control it, but also not so heavy that you can't work quickly. All in all, the tool feels like an extension of your own hand. The blade has a nice curve, suited to many cutting applications like dicing, slicing, chopping, etc. Cleanup is a breeze, thanks to the highly-polished blade.

Henckels may seem a bit pricy to someone who has never experienced the pleasure of their use; however, you will soon see that they quality of the craftsmanship is well worth it to pay a little extra. To sweeten the pot, they are unconditionally guaranteed for life; if you can manage to break one (and congrats if you succeed...quite impossible) they replace it. If you keep the blade properly sharpened (Sharpening Steel . . .))they last. You'll want to keep them in a block or get one of those nifty magnetic strips throwing them in a drawer exposes their precision edge to damage.

Compared to Wusthoff, I'd say these rank a little higher. Design is more attractive, more solid feel, better reputation.

All I can say, in summation, is watch your fingers...these knives bite!

First, I'm a big guy long arms, big hands, and I tend to favor tools that are somewhat oversized. This knife clearly fits the bill. The blade height, the handle length and the overall heft contribute to a really secure feeling. I find the Pro S handle easy to work with and more comfortable than the Gran Prix and Four Star handles.

These things said, I don't think the blades come wih a particularly good factory edge on them I've found that even cheap stamped knives like Victorinox are better in this regard. I also find that, despite being high-carbon stainless, these knives are harder for most users to sharpen. They're slow to take an edge, in my opinion, and they hold it less time than a comparably priced knife from, say, Wusthof-Trident. You'll want to have a good steel and a good stone to keep the edge on this knife steel it before every use, and store the knife on a magnetic rail, not in a drawer or on a block. While it's a lifetime-capable tool, you will not be able to treat this knife like a Ginsu and get high performance for very long.

Chicago Cutlery Onyx 10-Piece Knife Set

Chicago Cutlery Onyx 10-Piece Knife SetFeb-2012: I was given a set of these 5 years ago as a wedding present. The knives cut very nicely. However, the handles have started cracking on all the black and metal knives. No problems with the steak knives. I have contacted the company requesting they be replaced under warranty.

Mar-2012 Update: The company backs the life-time warranty on these knives. The company send me a brand new set of knives, including a new wooden block, completely free. Great customer service experience.

I normally dont spend much money on knives but decided it was time to get a decent set. after reading reviews from all over the net i decided to give these a try. I have had them for a handful of months now and i can say they are great. takes much less pressure to cut through anything so that infact makes these knives safer to use then lower quality ones. they are stylish and look nice sitting on the counter. every piece is well balanced and i noticed this right off the bat while using them. anyone in the market for a new knife set should give this set a look.

This is my first set of "quality" knives that I've actually picked out and bought on my own. I bought the set from a local department store. I did not intend to buy these knives, but I came across them while browsing for knife sets just to get some estimates, and I ended up with them in my cart. I hardly get a chance to cook and really just wanted a set for decoration and for special occasions. But, I found this set to be a great starter set. Right out of the box the knives were sharp and they feel pretty well balanced; they also have a pretty decent weight. So far, I have used one of the steak knives to cut a sandwich...so far, so good :-). For the price and for occasional use for a novice...GET THEM!!

Wusthof Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife

Wusthof Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring KnifeThis knife is good for everything from mincing herbs to slicing fruit to filleting small fish it even makes a pretty good steak knife. I finally broke down and bought a second one, so my mate and I can cook together without fighting over it.

Like all the knives in the Wusthof Classic line, this knife is fully tanged and bolstered. The tang extends into the handle and offsets the weight of the blade, and the bolster sits on your index finger to provide the fulcrum point. The result is a knife that is remarkably responsive and balanced. Some reviewers prefer the larger utility knife to this 3.5 inch parer. This knife is lighter and shorter, and therefore provides a balance point that is more comfortable for a smaller hand.

If you want the full arsenal of Wusthof prep knives, get the bird's-beak parer for digging the eyes out of potatoes and the stems out of peppers, get the serrated utility knife for slicing citrus and tomatoes, get the trimming knife for cutting off stems and boo-boos, and get the utility or boning knife for for slicing and meat prep. But if you just want to buy one, get this one.

I strongly advise people to get GOOD knives. You don't end up with a drawer of junk, and you will grab for this one probably more than any other in the kitchen. This is my workhorse, and I love Wusthof knives. I've had a set for 20 years, and only replaced my paring knife because it was missing from my set after a move. I do everything with this, peel vegetables, cut dice, slice or dice onions.

Buy Wusthof Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife Now

I received this paring knife (included in the course fee) when I took a Wusthof knife skills course at a local shop. It's everything a knife should be sharp, solid, well-balanced, and a comfortable fit in the hand. Wusthof got the proportions of the classic-style handle about right; not too fine, not too chunky... just right for comfort and control. After the course I gave it to my mother, who was surprised at its sharpness. (I already owned a Henckels Pro-S 3" paring knife, which has a slightly longer handle... IMO the two knives are similar in quality.)

This is also the knife that inspired a friend who finally bought one to exclaim, "I'm surprised you didn't say, 'You call that a knife????? THIS is a knife!' when you were using my (old, stamped, serrated) knives!" She now understands my addiction to forged German steel.

As always, it's best to try several knives in person and see how they fit your hand before buying, but it would be hard to go wrong with this one.

Undoubtedly the most often used knife in my kitchen, and the one I absolutely cannot do without. The Wusthof Classic paring knife has a 3-1/2-inch blade that's perfect for small cutting jobs and peeling. (It's pointed tip pops eyes out of potatoes!)

Whether slicing lemons, quartering an apple, or taking a nibble from our favorite cheese block, this is always the knife I reach for. It's quality is unsurpassable--it's forged to precision and perfectly balanced.

Wusthof has been producing quality cutlery for almost 200 years--it's a product you can rely on!

Having already owned two of the larger Wustof Classic knives it wasn't a difficult decision to buy this one when the price came down to $29.

After buying some hard beets at the farmers market I grabbed a knife from a good enough set, took one slice then remembered this new knife was in the drawer. The difference in slicing between a good enough knife and this one was the difference between good enough and outstanding.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 6-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star 6-Inch High Carbon Stainless-Steel Chef's KnifeWe got one as a wedding present ten years ago. The quality is superb. With a twice-a-year honing, this knife remains incredibly sharp, is well balanced in your hand, and slices with ease even the toughest meats. With careful handling, the blade and handle have not worn at all, and will probably outlive me. One caveat for those who do not have high-carbon steel knives: they do require more care (ex. don't put in dishwasher, don't let blade touch other metal, don't use crude electric sharpener). Don't let the babysitter try to pry-off bottle caps (sadly, the matching 3" paring knife met its end this way). If you appreciate fine quality in this age of throw-away, this is a knife one could be happy with forever.

I bought this one today, my first high-end cutlery purchase. It's so worth the price. I spent a lot of time in the store handling the different brands of knives, getting a feel for their construction and how they sit in the hand, and this one was definitely the best. The blade is a thing of beauty, and the handle is incredibly comfortable, not likely to hurt your hand a bit after long periods of continuous cutting. When I got it home, it performed just as beautifully as I expected. I'll definitely be saving up for more Henckels Four-Star knives.

This has been my favorite knife for years -I had it so long I can't recall when I got it. I already had an excellent set of Sabatier knives, but the handles were a bit thin and had somewhat sharp corners. One day I had occasion to use a Hencklels Four-star, and instantly fell in love with the voluptuous handle. It felt soooo good in my hand. Note that I have largeish hands, if you have smaller hands this might not be the knife for you.

I already had a 10" chef's knife, so I chose this 6" "sandwich" knife (that's what they called it back then). It has been my workhorse for years. I can put an edge on it that will shave hairs off my arm (but not quite off my face :-). Alas yesterday the blade snapped while cutting a sweet potato. No bending or twisting, just pressing down pretty hard, and bing! Mind you it had received daily use for well over a decade, if not two.

Now that I have to replace it, I think I'll go with an 8" blade. This 6" size was just a tad small for general purpose use, and I have plenty of other smaller knifes. I may get the 8" equivalent of exactly this knife, but am also considering the W'sthof Grand Prix II 7-Inch Fine Edge Santoku Knife. I'm hoping that design will keep my knuckles from bumping into the cutting board.

Here's a free tip: when pushing food around on the cutting board, use the BACK side of the knife. Don't drag the sharp edge across the board.

I just wanted to write this review to let everyone know that this knife is very good and worth the money you'll spend, however in my opinion Henckel knives have one flaw. I can't stand the little metal piece at the bottom of the blade. It's a sort of finger guard they built into the design. I cooked for a living for three years and had the opportunity to use everything from a 25.00 plastic grip knife we used to bust up lobsters all the way to hand forged Japanese $500 knives. If you are super picky about your knives that little piece of metal will drive you nuts because it hinders the sharpening of the last inch or so of the blade. Overall I would get a Global knife if your looking for something in the same price range. It is a lighter knife but excellent quality. If your looking for something with enough heft to chop a Volkswagen bug in half the Henckel still might be for you.

Japanese Professional Knife Sharpening Stone Sharpener

Japanese Professional Knife Sharpening Stone SharpenerSo far I've been very happy with this stone. (I use this one and a 6000 grit stone). Good quality at a good price. Have had it for a few months and it is still nice and flat and even. Will update if time proves me wrong.

Edit 6/15/09: I am now more familiar and experienced with stones, so I would like to add a few things. First and foremost, I still believe this is a good stone and at the listed price ($25), it's quite a bargain. I only wish they offered one that was a little wider. I've now tried some King waterstones the standard for cheap but good Japanese waterstones. In comparison, this stone does not cut as fast as the kings at the 1000 grit level. The 240 side is fairly aggressive and cuts pretty fast, perhaps faster than king's offerings. Like most coarse stones (a notable exception being the bester 500 grit stone), the 240 side dishes quickly. The 1000 grit side dishes comparably at a more moderate pace. More importantly, I feel like this stone leaves a nicer finish than does a king stone at 1000 grit. As such, I recommend this stone in general, but I recommend it very highly if you are on a limited budget and don't want to buy any higher grit stones to finish on. The coarse side is probably one of the better stones in the 240 range on the market, but it is slowed down just a bit by it's narrowness. Neither stone individually is the best of its kind (though you'd have to leave amazon to find some of the best), but taken together and considering the price, it's a good combo stone that could easily be either your only stone or the first two in your progression.

In either case don't waste money on stones sold by knife companies shun, global, whatever. They charge a huge markup compared to other companies based on brand recognition and people assuming that a company's stone is best for their knives.

This whetstone is great for typical knife sharpening maintenance.

It can be used in about 5 10 minutes after being soaked in water. However, it takes about a full day to dry completely.

For dull knives:

One side of the stone is 240 grit, which can be used for aggressive sharpening. The other side is 1000 grit, which can be used after the 240 grit sharpening to perform light sharpening. You can then hone the knife on your steel sharpening rod.

For typical knife sharpening maintenance, you can just use the 1000 grit side, followed by some honing on your steel rod.

Note that this stone will not fix damaged knife blades.

After neglecting our kitchen knives for too long, I bought this sharpening stone to try to reclaim them from their terrible state. So far so good. It has really helped.

However, the absence of instructions in English do make it somewhat challenging since I really don't know what I'm doing.

Also I learned the hard way that rubber gloves are a good idea. As I sharpened my knives small pieces of metal imbedded into my fingers. Not too bad, but a lesson learned.

Read Best Reviews of Japanese Professional Knife Sharpening Stone Sharpener Here

Since buying this stone less than a month ago, I've ended up sharpening close to a dozen knives with it. I bought it on vacation, and before I got home to Toronto ended up sharpening a number of knives for my grandparents and relatives, many of which hadn't been sharpened in decades. I definitely appreciate the two different grits-the coarse does a great job of removing any notches from the blade, and the 1000 grit side does a good job of honing the edge.

My only complaints are that the stone seems a bit narrow. It would be a bit easier to use were it a little wider, like a King Whetstone. Additionally, it seemed fairly easy to score, and I've carved some of the edges off accidentally with my sloppy form-though I can't compare it to other stones because I've only actually sharpened with this one.

This stone also comes with a rubber holder for the stone that works well to secure the stone on a countertop. That being said, it only works when directly placed on a bare countertop. The first time I used the foot, I spent a half hour cleaning a mess of slurry off my countertop. I've thrown that bit in the garbage. Save yourself the pain, and use a wet rag to secure the stone instead-it'll collect the slurry and save you the wash-up time.

As a heads-up, the "instructions" are purely in Japanese-but it makes little difference because there are a number of great instructional videos readily available on the internet.

Without a doubt, this is a great stone for such a low price. You can't really go wrong.

You have to learn how to maintain the 20 degree angle, but it does not take long to learn .... Trust your small muscle memory .... And this little unit will sharpen and hone the best of knives. I now just give my knives a swipe or two on each size grit, and my knives are pristine sharp. Well worth the investment to maintain your quality knives!!!

Berghoff 8-Piece Gourmet Knife Block

Berghoff 8-Piece Gourmet Knife BlockCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program Let me preface my review by saying that I received this set of cutlery in exchange for reviewing the product. There is no requirement that I give a good review. Also, let me point out that the actual set of knives I received has a different product number than the one on this page and is more probably the set listed here: BergHOFF Forged 8-Piece Knife Block Set. Nevertheless, I imagine that the two sets are very similar.

The BergHOFF Forged 8-Piece Knife Block Set is great. If you're anything like me, cutlery isn't something you give a lot of thought to. My own long-time knife block set was purchased at Walmart or somewhere similar years ago and probably cost less than $100. And these knives have served me just fine for the limited use I give them. If you want a more study and long-lasting set, however, you may want to take a look at these BergHOFF knives.

The set includes six knives, a pair of kitchen shears and a wooden block to hold all the pieces securely. The knives are as follows: an 8" Chef;s knife, an 8" Carving knife, an 8"Bread knife, a 7" Japanese Santoku Chef knife, a 5" Utility knife and a 3.5" Paring knife. I found that the knives are all quite well-balanced, which is important if you're going to use them extensively for preparing meals. They are not heavy, but they do feel substantial in your hand; not cheap. The bread knife comes with a serrated blade and works really well on tomatoes and other thin-skinned vegetables. The kitchen shears have serrated blades as well and are suitable for everything from clipping leafy vegetables to butchering a chicken. My favorite knife of the set is the Santoku Japanese Chef knife. The balance is great and I find the shape and size of this blade to be the most versatile of all the knives.

The handles on these knives are comfortable to my hand, ergonomic and well-constructed.

The wooden block is heavy but does not take up a lot of counter top space.

This set loses one point with me for not having a sharpening tool with it. One of the things I appreciate about my old set is the sharpening tool. If you don't have one already, you'll probably want to acquire one in order to keep your knives nice and sharp.

Over all, this is a good set at the current price Amazon has for it. Given the proper care, it should last for many years.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The short review:

Solid knife set for basic kitchen/cooking tasks.

The longer review:

Solid construction on these knives. They feel very sturdy.

The grips are great, and the knife is comfortable in your hand.

Good looking block. It's not the one in the photo however, it's an angled wooden block not a black cylinder.

No steak knifes, and no room in the block for additional knives beyond what comes with the set. It's kind of a bummer to have a block in my kitchen without the space for some steak knives.

Scissors included. Every since my first knife set that included scissors, I've used them in the kitchen a lot more than I thought I would.

I will update this review in the future with information about how the knife set holds up over time.

Buy Berghoff 8-Piece Gourmet Knife Block Now

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program These are good basic knives for most cooking functions.

Pros:

Full tang and solid construction. The handles and rivets are so well fitted that it's as though they just painted them on.

They came sharp enough to be used immediately.

The handles are quite comfortable.

The block is attractive.

The knives serve their function. Very good bread knife serration, for example. The cute paring knife is very easy to use. The chef's knife is excellent.

Cons:

A bit thin? They feel sturdy anyhow.

I can just tell the steel will tarnish if I let it. I'm probably not going to put these in the dishwashing machine. Albeit they come with a 30 year warranty so perhaps this impression is unfair (I certainly am not an expert on knives).

If the knives wear out, I will return to report that in the review, but I anticipate I'll get reliable use out of them for a long time.

Value:

This is tricky question. These are much better than what I had previously (normal set from Target). I don't know that the list price (the higher number they cross out to suggest you're getting a huge discount) is all that realistic.

For the current price I would say they are a fair value. If they go on sale for $125 or less I would say that represents a very good value.

EDIT: I'm adding the fifth star after using these for a while. I have never had a quality set of knives before, and did not appreciate just how much easier it is to cut food. I would never go back to the Ikea or Target level quality, and I'm quite a cheapskate. These are worth the price. They are holding up under lots of use, btw.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a decent set of knives for the price, but be aware: don't put them in the dishwasher, and dry them immediately when you hand-wash them. If not, you'll have tiny spots of tarnish (rust) on your knives in no time. I was quite disappointed in this, having owned several sets of knives over the years that didn't have this problem.

They stay extremely sharp and I have not found a single problem running them through the dishwasher I do it every single time and they come out clean. I am buying another set now because we use them for everything (much more than just steak).

I do not care for the aluminum set. As far as it being sharp... That is not a problem the knives are very sharp. I don't care for the texture of the handles as they feel a bit odd. Also the handles are tarnishing after only two uses. Perhaps they are not dishwasher safe but I don't recall a warning on that. All in all I am not a fan

This knife is sold a steak knife. I use it as a paring knife. The serrated edge will never dull, and it will cut most vegetable, fruits with ease. I purchased another with my next order.

Kuhn Rikon Original Nakiri 5-Inch Knife Colori

Kuhn Rikon Original Nakiri 5-Inch Knife Colori, RedI love this knife. It's sharp, neatly slicing through the vegetables. It is also super cute and easy to hold. The one thing that may come up is if you are slicing anything longer than the length of the blade (like today, a giant portobello), you may have to do two cuts then.

Just recently got this knife, and I've only got to use it once but i used it to slice potatoes onions and i also used it to cut up the meats. Very sharp and easy to hold and handl. I love it so far cant wait to use it again

Swissmar Girouette for Cheese & Chocolate Curler, #S3300

Swissmar Girouette for Cheese & Chocolate Curler, #S3300I use this device for making chocolate ruffles for tops of cakes and desserts. Comes with a mold for making your own chocolate discs, too. NOTE: The key to making nice ruffles is to be sure the chocolate is at the proper temperature. If it's too cold the chocolate will "chip" apart -too warm and it will not ruffle nicely. To warm the warm chocolate, just place it under a goose-neck lamp for a few minutes and viola!- the chocolate will be at just the right temperature for ruffling. If its's too warm, a little time in the refrigerator will solve the problem.

i was on the lookout for a Girouette to go with Monk's Head cheese I bought for my DH this Xmas but they are all very expensive. for the actual amount of use this will get, i wasn't crazy about spending $40+ for one. this one popped up as an Amazon Warehouse deal for $30. the box itself had been opened and looked a bit dusty but the item inside appeared new. it works well does take a bit of practice and getting used to but once you do it produces yummy curls of cheese as promised. DH says this reminds him of his boyhood trip to Switzerland where he ate this cheese daily. he loves it, and i do too! we have not, and probably will not, use this for chocolate curls so can't comment on that.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Serrated Utility Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Serrated Utility KnifeWe live on our boat, almost full time. Although our galley is about the size of a medium on-land kitchen, the space for cutlery is relatively compact. The Pro-S series, in general is superior to any knife I have ever used. Specifically the 5 inch serrated utility knife is the single most used knife in our collection. For slicing veggies or anythng with a crust there is no equal. For slicing tomatoes it is almost a joke between Liz and I, that we can make one tomato last for a week because we can make the slices so thin and even.

My husband and I LOVE these knives. We use them for everything from slicing bagels to tomatoes. They are great!

I had this knife for many years. I dropped it on a tile floor, and the blade broke--I guess it was pretty brittle. I thought I was getting an exact replacement, but the instant I held the new knife, it felt lighter. I weighed both pieces of my broken knife, and the new knife, and sure enough, the new knife weighed less! Had I realized it was inferior, I would have shopped in person, so that I got a knife that felt good to me. This one feels "cheap," but at just under $70, it was not. I've been using it for a while now, and it's just not the same. I'll be looking for another one.

The Professional S series has been a blessing in our family in the two years since it replaced a set of those cheapo "Never-needs-sharpening" knives.

And the most used knife in the lot is this one, the 5-inch serrated knife. Whether you are slicing a few vegetables, peeling a fruit, or want an ultra-deluxe steak knife of the gods, this is the one.

The Professional S design is a classic that will hold up well over the years.

I've owned a 5-inch Henkels serrated knife for about a year. The piece of metal that's riveted in the handle broke. I might expect the black synthetic portion of the handle to break, but the "forged stainless steel"? Pretty disappointing.

Five Finger Fillet Carving Set

Five Finger Fillet Red Kitchen Knife Holder Designed By Raffaele IannelloVery disappointed.

If it were made of chrome and wood, it would be a "work of art" and I would have been happy to pay $300+ for it.

Love this idea but please be warned it takes up ample counter space. I like clutter free counters and this is just too big. If you have room to leave something about the size of a soccer ball on your counters than go for it but otherwise you won't be happy. Such a shame since it is so unique.

It looks very cool exept it's too bulky. I still enjoy it in my kitchen. I do recommend it if you have a good counter space.

Oneida Dover Steak Knife Set, Set of 4

Oneida Dover Steak Knife Set, Set of 4I was in need of new steak knives and decided to try and match a new set with my Oneida flatware. I own the Satin Dover but unfortunately the steak knives are only available in the Dover (shiny finish). I ordered the knives anyway and am very happy I did. I actually like the contrast of the satin finish vs the shiny finish. I know when the table is set that the steak knives are in use as opposed to the dinner knives. It's so nice having all my flatware patterns match. I'm fussy that way. I'm pleased with this purchase.

The knives are nice, but not the same shape as the steak knives that I purchased from Oneida many years ago. The blade end is wider and not as graceful looking.
