Rogers 45-Piece A La Carte Flatware with Hostess

Rogers 45-Piece A La Carte Flatware with HostessI brought this from Amazon warehouse as an open box, I paid almost half of the original price. And for that price it is very well worth it. Since it was an open box, the box was not in a good shape but all the items were. They are quite heavy and conferrable enough on the hand, and very strong and look relatively expensive. I'm sure this set will last quite long time.

Wusthof 4-Piece Classic Knife Set

Wusthof 4-Piece Classic Knife SetVery nice knives, heavier than the cheap plastic handle sets you get at department stores. Also VERY sharp, cut my wifes finger the first time she used the bread knife (5 stitches)! Be careful.

I love these knives. The bread knife especially handy. Its perfect for tomatoes. Just be careful they are really sharp (my wife sliced her finger while cutting a bagette). You don't need any other knives except maybe a smaller chef knife. Worth every penny.

This is a great set. All are knives that are used often. Bread knife is great for tomatoes, etc., too. Nice and sharp. After the old knives I had, I must be careful not to cut a finger off!

This is my first set of really good knives and it is amazing how much easier they are to use. The chef's knife makes cooking prep a joy rather than a chore. The 8" knife felt big at first, but after using it for a while, it's feels like the perfect size. I've been using the steel to hone the knives daily when I use them and they stay sharp.

Weston 82-0102-W Electric Meat Grinder with Tomato Strainer Kit

Weston 82-0102-W Electric Meat Grinder with Tomato Strainer KitThis machine was worthless! I wasted over 10 cups of tomatoes as they had to be dumped down the drain after oil and metal shavings came out of the machine.

What a hassle to return and I wish I had never purchased it to begin with.

I tryed to save a few bucks, dont do as i did, go for larger HP horse power. This unit will do the job but it makes a mess and not enough power. Binds up to often

I have owned this product for over a year. I use it exclusively as a meat grinder to make a sandwich spread recipe. I have never used it as a tomato strainer. It takes medium size chucks of meat and cheese and grinds them up great. The meat and cheese sizes are approximately 2-3 inches round, and it has no problems with these. For folks who use the old fashion hand crank meat grinder, it works exactly the same way, only using electricity instead of hand cranking. Never had a problem with oil or metal shavings. Really like the product although it does have several more parts to clean than the non electric one.

Pure Komachi 2 Series Citrus Knife

Pure Komachi 2 Series Citrus KnifeI have several of these knives....bread knife, paring, slicing. I love the quirky colors, they make me giggle....

But even more, I love the usefulness, the sharpness of the blades, the ease of cleaning AND the great price.

After the horrible flooding of New Orleans...and the loss of all my "good knives" to the 11 feet of mud and water in my kitchen, I decided I wanted pretty, fun, and, of course, useful in my life. These fit the bill.

Enjoy!

I originally purchased this knife a year ago from Williams Sonoma. I loved this knife so much I wanted to purchase more for gifts, because all my friends commented on how great a knife this is. I was delighted when I found the knife on Amazon, because Williams Sonoma no longer carries the knife. I bought 5 knives this year for christmas gifts. All my friends were thrilled that I was able to find it, and they luv it. It slices through citrus like butter. You'll not be dissapointed.

We have had this for a year or two now, and it still works well. It's light and fairly sharp for its age (never resharpened it). We don't have a dish washing machine, so I can't attest to its longevity under that type of washing.

The non stick coating won't last forever, but I can say it will last a few years, anyway.

We mainly use this knife on lime, lemon, sandwiches, tomatoes, etc.

bottom line-

can't beat it for the price. don't hesitate if it looks right to you.

Generally speaking, all of the Komachi knives are amazing. This knife is great not only for cutting fruit but is great for day to day cutting jobs. The serrated edge does make it limited with some veggies but for the most part it glides through anything.

Highly recommend, they stay sharp a long time (at least over a year).

If you are in need of a sharp knife, it is very hard to beat these Komachi blades.

They are our favorite new kitchen implement. We purchased our first one a few months back,

and since have gradually advanced to purchasing the whole set. They outperform all the

other blades in our blocks, including German products costing 10 times as much.

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Utility Knife

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Utility KnifeWhenever my husband and I are in the kitchen together preparing dinner, one of us waits until the other is finished cutting to use this knife. It slices through tomatoes without ruining them. We use it for cutting everything.

I sometimes wonder if these reviews are all about the same item. This serrated knife is great. It isnt like it was $100 so while you cant expect $100 value in a $9 knife, I think it is worth 3x the price. I love serrated knives for some reason. I read some reviews and saw someone say they could cut veges thin with it. I have to think she was using a different product because I have zero problem cutting things to a transparent thickness. I actually love it for cheese. I also love it for meats. I hate those little steak knives that come with the sets. At least this one feels like you have something in your hand and it gives you great leverege or however you spell that word. I use it for everything from cutting a tomato to cutting rolls and meats and cheeses. I actually liked it so much that I just bought more of them. I dont see how the tip breaks off like a couple people said. I do clean mine by hand and dont put it in the dishwasher but I dont see how that should matter. I never had a very expensive serrated knife and now I dont see why I would ever need one. I would just as soon buy another one for the lousy $9 if something happened to the ones I have. These reviews make it so tough to rely on as I am looking for something in a different area and things have 300 5 star reviews and than 10 people give the product 1 star and it throws off your thinking. It makes it very tough to buy things based on reviews. Not many things have all 5 star reviews, if any. So when every product has both 5 star and 1 star reviews, you have to wonder if they are talking about the same product. Not counting the broken out of the box problems because I suppose that can happen. Oh well! I think this knife is fabulous especially for the price

Buy J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 5-Inch Stainless-Steel Utility Knife Now

It's hard to go wrong with any Henckels knife. That said, I read other reviews and thought that this knife would be an improvement for cutting vegetables for my salads. Wrong. The serrated blade tends to shred mushrooms rather than cut them thinly, and my tomatoes, also fairly soft, get mushy in the cutting. So, for softer items, this knife loses a star with me. On the other hand, it slices firmer items just fine, such as bread, sandwiches, meats, onions and celery and semi-ripe avocados. Again, though, I had no luck slicing anything thinly with this knife. Here is information from the tag which is helpful: (1) micro-serrated edge; (2) heavy weight stamped; (3) triple riveted handles with stainless rivets; (4) fully visible tang construction; (5) breakproof, dishwasher safe (handwashing recommended); (6) made in Thailand; (7) contour black polypropylene handle and (8) fully guaranteed against defects in material and/or craftsmanship. The label also includes a website if you have other questions. I like the weight of the knife in general, and the handle is substantial, balanced and easy on my hand.

In the event that there are any material problems with the knife, I know from personal experience that Henckels has a terrific guarantee. I recently contacted them about a paring knife that was over 25 years old with a bent blade. I mailed the knife back to Henckels, and they sent me a new knife; all I paid was the cost of the postage back to them; they gave me the new knife and paid the postage back. So, I already know that if this knife does not hold up over time, Henckels will stand behind their product.

This is my 2nd one of this specific knife.

I bought a second because it is the ONE knife I use for almost all my cutting and prepping.

Interestingly, my first one I purchased about 7 yrs back was from Japan.

I have never had to resharpen this knife. EVER!

This one is from China. I tried to compare and find a flaw but the knife is perfect.

Super sharp and extremely well balanced in the hand.

Japan vs. China.... I don't see any difference.

They must still be following the Henckel manufacturer's strict specifications.

I would recommend this to any intermediate and professional chef.

It is very sharp and unforgiving for a very beginner cook so be careful.

Tuftop Spring Creek Run Cutting Board

Tuftop Spring Creek Run Cutting Board Size: SmallThis is a great product. The image is absolutely beautiful and the tempered glass is very nice and strong. We haven't acually used it as a cutting board as of yet, but we love it! It sits on our kitchen counter as decor. I also like the fact that I can sit extremely hot things on it. . . . right out of the oven. I definitely give it 2 thumbs up!

Magnagrip Magnetic Knife & Utensil Holder 18"

Magnagrip Magnetic Knife & Utensil Holder 18'I've had this magnet strip in both my home and in professional environments but lost it in a "custody battle." It absolutely cannot be beat. The magnet is very strong and the strip screws securely into the wall. This system is beneficial if counter space is limited (as in my home kitchen). I had a hard time finding a wooden model because most on the market are now plastic which does NOT work. I had a plastic knife strip on my wall next to my oven (which was the only available place for it). The heat from the back of the oven MELTED the plastic strip over time! One day my precious knives went clattering onto the granite countertop. I knew then I had to locate another wooden magnet strip. I'm not worried about the strip bursting into flame as it must be directly ignited by contact with fire in order for that to happen and if it did, I'd have bigger problems than the demise of my magnet strip. I highly recommend this product.

Finally! A magnetic strong enough to do what it was designed for.

Wusthof Classic 7-Inch Fillet Knife With Sheath

Wusthof Classic 7-Inch Fillet Knife With SheathI have been looking for a really good fillet knife for several years. I wish I had the money I spent on all the fillet knives I have purchased. I was always dissatisfied with the edge retention on even some of the higher end brands. I finally decided to go with a battery operated fillet knife and it does a pretty good job. This knife was suggested and I was fore warned that it would NOT be a cheap purchase. I bit the bullet and ordered the knife and went with the custom blade after reading the reviews. When the knife arrived I was pleased with the flexibility and the keen edge and scarey sharp point. I finally managed to clean a few fish after a recent trip and was pleased with the edge retention, I did use a leather strop on the knife prior to use. (I didn't have to stop half way through the filleting process and sharpen it). As I said it is not a cheap purchase and like any good knife does require a minimum of maintenance (i.e do not store it in the a wet leather sheave, clean it thoroughly after use... common sense things) to maintain this high quality knife. I will be going on a Canadian fishing trip this summer and will put the knife through a very vigorous usage. I will update my review after the prolonged "test".

Bought this for my husband and he was very pleased. He said he could tell right away just by the blade, that it was going to be a good knife.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels MIYABI 7000MC Chutoh Mid Size Utility Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels MIYABI 7000MC Chutoh Mid Size Utility KnifeI own many different professional knives, so I have opportunity to compare them on a regular basis. I maintain my knives well and use them with good technique. If you chop vigorously and scrape the cutting board with the knife edge and hack through bones or hard objects regularly, then Japanese knives might not be for you. The beauty of the Japanese knives is that they cut so well you don't have to hack through anything.

The knife does the work and cuts cleanly. Up until the last 10 years i was always told that German steel was the best and i was quite content with my Wustof and Henkels/Zwilling knives...that was until i encountered Japanese steel. The Japanese manufacturing and knife design has proven superior for me in almost every way. They have an elegance and refinement that is without equal. I absolutely love my shun and miyabi knives. Upon researching different knife steels I came upon the crucible powdered metallurgy steels like MC66 and Cowry. It was then I started paying attention to Rockwell C hardness scale and sharpening angle. I found out that my German knives were sharpened at 22 degree angles and with a Rockwell C running in the upper 50's( which explains why I have to hone them after each use) by comparison the Japanese knives like Shun and Miyabi are sharpened at 12-14 degree angles which is a thinner cutting edge and the Rockwell C is normally between 60-62. Those need to be honed after a few weeks use. However, this Miyabi 7000mc is at 66. That translates into, first of all, the ability to make a scary sharp edge and second, holding that edge with proper use for a much longer time. They stay wickedly sharp for over a month. I can't speak more highly of any knife! These are fantastic! But watch out...they are probably much sharper than any other knife you have ever used. They can easily nick your fingers with even the slightest pressure. You have to have good knife technique or you will hurt yourself.

This knife has never failed yet. It gets dull over time, but, it doesn't happen for awhile. I recommend not to slice meat with this knife as it isn't design for it and will wear out quicker.

I use it for slicing my vegetables and just that only. The blade is so sharp and I like the way the handle feels in your hand. Surgical steel, straight edge blade, and keep in mind buy this once and if anything happens to the knife. Do contact their customer service and they'll set you up to send in your knife to get a replacement if it does break on you for any reason.

My whole family loves this knife and will be passed on from generation to generation.

I really liked this knife . . . until the steel blade cracked inside the handle. This is the first time such a thing has happened to me with ANY knife. I would think such a high-priced knife would be better manufactured.

Messermeister 34 Pocket Chef's Satchel with Large Storage Pocket, Black

Messermeister 34 Pocket Chef's Satchel with Large Storage Pocket, BlackI am in the buisness so I wanted a bag that can hold alot of tools. It has alot of space, nice construction but the knives don't fit!! It has a ton of elastic places for tools but they are sewn so tight that I can't get my filet knife much less my 8in. chef's knife.I could cut through the band but it would mean that I'm using two places for one knife and I might ruin the construction of the bag. I'm diappointed and I plan on selling this bag at the culinary college but worse I still have no chef bag.The pics you can find of this bag show knifes in the knife slots but that's not possible.

Best knife bag I've purchased. I've always been a big fan of the roll-up knife bags from Messermeister. But with my growing collection of kitchen tools I had no space for them. Until I got this bag.

The only down side of this bag is that the knives don't fit handle side down. But if there is a edge guard on your knife (which there always should be) put it blade side down and it should stay.

The case is alright. It holds my 12 inch knives without a problem, my only complaints are that the pockets are too small so if you have a lot of German cutlery or other big handled knives, they might not fit and even though it has lots of pockets for storage, when you store a few chef's knives a lot of the pockets become unusable.

Gibson Sunbeam Fairland 16-Piece Flatware Set, Green, Service for 4

Gibson Sunbeam Fairland 16-Piece Flatware Set, Green, Service for 4Very attractive set, unfortunately the metal end pieces fell off of some of the spoons after only a couple of weeks of use making those pieces useless. There was no customer service phone number or website information on the packaging.

I bought a set of the green and orange. Fortunately they go perfectly with my plates. Sadly, they are very poor quality. The handles already have slight cracks at the base of the handles. There is also a product carving in the silverware that gives an awkward sensation when used. The carvings are on the bottom of the spoons and on the knives. The spoons are the problem. It's deep enough in the metal that you can feel it on your tongue. Would not buy these again. I'm currently looking for replacements but haven't found any I like yet.

I had hoped the darker shade on the left would be how this flatware looked, but it's definitely the shade on the right -neon lime green. At first I thought I would keep the set despite some misgivings, but ultimately I returned it for two reasons, one stronger than the other: First, the color was just enough off from the shade of my dishes to be less than satisfactory, but secondly and more important, the manufacturer stamped company information into the metal part of the pieces and I found this especially unwanted on the bowls of the spoons. The incised words are on the bottom of the spoon bowls (three lines of text) where they ruined (for me) the feel of the spoon. It adds a definite texture to the metal which I found unpleasant.

The set is quite heavy with the handles being considerably chunky -yet the balance is pretty good so the bulk wasn't a problem.

Pedrini Black & Satin Stainless Steel Butter Spreader

Pedrini Black & Satin Stainless Steel Butter SpreaderI am with the Kansas City Bicycle Club. We use this spreader for our rides to make peanut butter and jelly sandwichs for our riders. The spreader is the best we have found for ease of use. We constantly get comments that we provide tools that have been tested by someone. Our only problem is we seem "lose" a couple on each ride.

For someone wanting a nice wide-enough butter/jam spreader, this is ideal, but not what I was looking for.

I have searched and searched for one that fits comfortably in the hand that has a serrated edge that easily slices through a piece of toast. This isn't it. No serrated edge and too large.

Happily my wonderful 43-year old butter knife that was lost finally showed up.

I wouldn't ordinarily review this, but it seems a review is expected regardless.

Made to lay on counter or hang, to bulky for more than one in my silverware drawer. Stamped metal part is not finished well if at all, cheap like 99 cent store stuff. I lightly buffed the edges to remove the rough unfinished edge(it will probably rust now).

OXO Good Grips Folding Stainless-Steel Dish Rack

OXO Good Grips Folding Stainless-Steel Dish RackI give this product two stars as an average: 3 stars for design, 1 for quality. Because most of my dishes and glasses go into the dishwasher I wanted a large open dish rack for pots and plastic bowls and containers. I don't find the "wave" design holds up these items very well, but there's plenty of room to stack them; the utensil basket isn't really deep enough to keep cooking utensils from flopping over, but I can live with these issues. My biggest complaint is that the stainless steel wires have rust on them! Each juncture where two wires meet has rust around it, but there's also rust at the ends of each wire. Even some of the wires have rust along the lengths with more on the underside than above. I have aluminum pots so they aren't the cause of the rust. A $50 stainless steel dish rack should not rust after only two months use...a major disappoinment!

This is a huge dish rack with excellent drainage. However, the sides are clip on plastic pieces which broke within 2 months of use. The plastic parts hold your glasses and silverware. They clip into the stainless steel rack. The hole in the plastic that gets clippped into the stainless steel broke and no longer stays attached. The glass "fingers" to hold glasses, broke. Not that they ever held glasses. Everything fell off of them. This is the worse dish rack I've ever owned. If the plastic was replaced by metal, it would be great. I'm sorry I dumped my Rubbermaid dish rack and replaced it with this one.

Buy OXO Good Grips Folding Stainless-Steel Dish Rack Now

First let me say, I'll never, ever forgive Rubbermaid for discontinuing large drain boards with the lip on the short end, nor for so seriously downgrading the quality of their dish drains. They were long-lived, functional, easy to clean, and all-around user friendly.

But even Rubbermaid's original quality items don't last forever, so I bought this OXO Good Grips folding stainless steel *contraption* (there's no better word for it), at a pretty steep price, in the hope that at least the capacity would be sufficient. I don't know about you, but the major reason I need a dish drain is for large items that don't go in the dishwasher, like cutting boards and large pots and pans.

I've used it for about 24 hours now, and can say it has a couple of good points but several bad ones as well:

The main good point is that it is quite capacious and works well enough for those big spaghetti pots, long knives, big wooden spoons, plastic dishes and the like while the dishwasher does what it's good at: the plates, glasses, cutlery, and cups. It also appears to keep the counter underneath dry, which matters a lot.

The other major good point is that the board underneath can be rotated so the spout points in whatever direction you wish, so in turn the drain can be oriented as you wish. Thank you, OXO, for that little design thought.

However, it is a delicate assembly. It's got very fancy utensil holders at both ends that are supposed to clip into place to keep them from tipping over. The clips don't stay clipped, so if you try to move the monster, say, to get the spout a little farther over the sink, and accidentally grab the utensil holders to do so, they come unmoored.

The board doesn't stay well seated under the drain, either. The slightest nudge dislodges it, allowing the dishes to wet the counter top. I admit it, I'm a klutz, and nudge it constantly, and constantly have to reposition it.

The cup holders would work only for something like a lightweight (plastic) child's juice cup. They're not tall or sturdy enough to hold even an ordinary coffee mug upright.

This thing is bulky. When the spout is well-positioned to drain into the sink, the utensil holder sticks a good two inches over the sink as well. So that means I hit it all the time while washing anything large. Which means, the utensil holder disconnects and the drain board moves out of place. Sigh...I feel like I'm fighting with it constantly.

Had I designed it, I would have made the wire arcs intended to hold plates vertically at least a half inch larger in all dimensions. As they are they barely hold a cutting board, or, say, the glass carousel from the microwave, upright. I also would have made the water spout longer, and a bit wider.

I haven't yet attempted to clean it. We'll see whether the water spots can be removed with a little dish soap and gentle scrubbing. If not, the next best cleaner is Barkeeper's Friend Lime & Rust Remover. It worked extremely well on the Rubbermaid drain board, let's hope it doesn't destroy this contraption!

ADDENDUM after a full week of use:

I like it better, we've got a more friendly relationship and I've learned how to avoid knocking the board out of place and so forth. I've also discovered that if you put a mug over TWO of the cup fingers at a time, it works as it's supposed to. And finally, today I used a little Barkeeper's Friend Lime & Rust Remover on a wet sponge to wipe away the water spots on the board and it worked perfectly. The board did not melt away, and the spots came off just fine and it looks like new after being dried with a paper towel. YAY!

Read Best Reviews of OXO Good Grips Folding Stainless-Steel Dish Rack Here

Very sturdy, holds a lot of dishes, and water drains right out. It's a huge improvement over my last dish rack. My only complaint is that the utensil holders are a little awkward because they don't hold the utensils upright very well. But I like the slots for small knives, which keeps them away from other utensils.

Want OXO Good Grips Folding Stainless-Steel Dish Rack Discount?

I've had this dish rack for less than a year. Some problems were evident right out of the box but others have developed over time. Our kitchen sink has a very high lip and the elevated drip spout is not high enough. Perhaps I should have taken the rack back at that time but I decided to prop the rack up off the kitchen counter. This never worked very well and the rack has consistently bled water onto the counter. This rack will work with an under-mounted kitchen sink but it will not work for sinks with a raised lip.

I was skeptical about the quality of the plastic parts and, sure enough, all are chipped or broken after gentle use. The uprights for holding glasses are flimsy at best. One is now gone. There are structural cracks at the joints where the wire ends engage the plastic.

Finally, this product is not easy to assemble and has a tendency to auto-disassemble. To build the unit, you insert the ends of metal rods into keyholes in the plastic ends, then pivot the plastic down to clip the bottom onto the metal rack. This is a fussy operation and doesn't hold very well. When you move the rack to clean up the water that accidentally pools beneath it, the rack frequently comes apart.

I have been a big fan of this brand for years (best vegetable peeler in the world!) but this item is poorly designed and poorly manufactured. Please avoid.

Shun DM0766 Classic Western Chef's Knife, 8-Inch

Shun DM0766 Classic Western Chef's Knife, 8-InchI absolutely love this knife. I have owned this for about 5 months now.

Yes, it is extremely sharp.

It is my "go-to" for prep work. I mostly use it for large-quantity vegetable prep, but it is heavy (and sharp!) enough to break down and cube large cuts of meat as well. The wider blade of this Western-style Chef's knife is nice for the "chop & scoop" move.

It feels great in my hand and I love the balance and weight of it. It's easy to handle and maneuver. It has held up very well so far with absolutely no issues.

In my opinion this is a must-have when building a set of quality kitchen knives.

My general thoughts on Shun knives:

I have chosen switch from my German Wusthof and Henckels I've been collecting since college and started building a set of Shuns. In doing so, I've noticed a few things:

Firstly, they are absolutely stunning to look at. If I'm honest, it is a large part of why I love these. Superficial, I know, but when people come over for dinner, they actually notice and compliment them. You won't get the same reaction with a Wusthof.

Practically, though:

I prefer the D-shaped handles of the Shun. It's comfortable for both the "hammer" and "pinch grip".

The Shuns are literally razor-sharp. These really slice through things quite effortlessly. The angle on the Japanese knives is different than on German steel. If new to Shun, take some time to familiarize yourself with this fact.

The Damascas steel is extremely hard, and these knives are incredibly well-made.

How I simplify the comparison:

The Germans engineer some amazing things, and their cutlery is world-class. There really isn't a task that the Shun does that a Wusthof can't.

It's just that the Shuns do it with such precision and beauty. I am extremely pleased with my set of Shuns and I absolutely consider them an upgrade to their German counterparts.

As with anything of value, take care of them. Always hand wash and never put in the dishwasher; and always store them appropriately. The limited lifetime warranty is great, and Shun offers free knife sharpening (aside from shipping costs).

A good knife for the price. Not the best but it replaces a like item from my knife collection. The original one fell on the floor and the blade broke in half. Hope this lasts longer.

Kyocera Revolution Series 5-Inch Micro Serrated Utility Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 5-Inch Micro Serrated Utility Knife, White BladeThis knife, like all of Kyocera's ceramic knives, is good looking and has a terrific sharp edge. Like the rest of their plastic handled series, the grip is contoured to be thinner at the front and back and wider in the middle. The grip feels comfortable in the hand, and provides for good positive control over the blade.

In general size, this is very similar to the Kyocera 5" utility knife in this series (which is an excellent general kitchen knife). However, the blade is not as tall as the unserrated knife, and this one has a micro-serrated edge. The size and shape make this blade better suited for slicing than chopping, but for slicing vegetables, it is very effective.

The serrations on the blade are barely visible, but they have a definite effect when cutting. Despite being tiny, the serrations let the blade 'grip' what you cut more effectively. This makes slicing at angles much easier, especially on food with a smooth skin, such as tomatoes. The knife is also decent for bread, certainly better than an unserrated knife, but not as quite as good as a knife with a deeply serrated edge.

Although the serrated edge probably means that the blade will be difficult to sharpen, the ceramic isn't expected to need sharpening for a long time. Between the ceramic composition of the blade and the plastic handle, this knife requires very little care other than basic washing.

This knife is available with either a white or black blade (I actually have the black-bladed version), both with a black handle.

While this may not be as good a universal utility knife as the unserrated version, or as good for chopping as a larger blade, this knife makes a great vegetable slicer and a terrific addition to the a set of kitchen knives.

I bought this to have a very sharp small kitchen knife. I figured that the serrations wouldn't hurt, and would definitely add value with regard to slicing tomatoes. OOPS!

The serrations make slicing tomatoes, especially thin skinned very ripe ones, a breeze. Unfortunately, they "catch" on other food actually increasing the work needed to cut. Needless to say, I suppose, is that the stroke used with this knife is a pull (it will not work with a "pressing" action), but for some reason a push stroke doesn't seem as effective.

Also note that this knife is physically light weight (good for some, less good for others).

I looked at the recommendations for this knife, and some of them seem to be for Kyocera ceramic knives in general, not this specific 5" serrated knife. Do yourself a favor; if you are just purchasing a small sharp kitchen knife, try the regular blade. If you know that you want the serrations, then this knife will be for you.

I bought this knife 8 months ago, i was looking for a tomato slicing knife, as although i have a decent set of chicago cutlery knives, they need to be sharpened before slicing tomatoes. I also wanted to try out 'ceramic' knives without a big investment.

This knife is amazing, it's still as sharp as it was the first time i used it and its the only knife i use for slicing veggies.

I recently received this knife as a gift and I could not be more pleased. I have used it to trim the fat from a brisket prior to smoking it, and trimming the ends off of vegetables, amongst other things. The trimming of the fat was like cutting through paper. It was so smooth and easy. Trimming vegegtables was a snap, with smooth cuts and no resistance.

I've had one of these for about a year, and just gave one as a housewarming gift. I love it. The knife is labeled on the package (but not on this website)as a tomato knife, and that's what it's best at. It has tiny serrations in the blade, and those serrations cut through tomato skins better than any other knife where normal knives sometimes slip on the skin, this knife cuts clean through. It really makes prep work faster and more pleasant. If you want to buy the knife, there are a few things you should know...

1) Save the manufacturer's insert the insert contains instructions and a coupon for shipping the knife back to the manufacturer for sharpening. You can't sharpen it yourself it's a ceramic blade, and specially designed. This much being said, I've used it a few times a week for a year, and haven't noticed a dropoff in performance yet.

2) The knife is ceramic, and that means that you can't torque it or bend it metal knives are more flexible and ceramic can break. So, if I were slicing up something really heavy duty or using my knife to pry or twist (not something I'd want to do with the expensive knife, regardless), I'd use something else.

3) The knife is small and light and looks a little like a toy; it's still sharp as heck. However, if you want to cut up larger things (like butternut squash), larger knives work better.

Friedr. Dick 1905 Exclusive Series Chef's Knife

Friedr. Dick 1905 Exclusive Series 10-Inch Chef's KnifeOther than the $90 price tag, this knife is very special.

I was looking for a forged knife with a more exaggerated curve than my other knives, so I tried it. WOW. I can say have used Henkels and Wusthofs that F. Dick is far and away my favorite of the 3 brands.

This knife is superbly balanced. It came very sharp out of the box, and with frequent honing on steel or ceramic rod, it remains EXTREMELY sharp. Most of my other knives are MAC japanese stamped knives, so I wanted a forged knife to complement the kit. This fits the billand how! The japanese knives seem to retain the sharpness a bit longer, butlike I saidwith frequent honing this sucker stays good and sharp. It does have a more exaggerated curve than most other chef knives, which is nice for mincing garlic and herbs. Don't hesitate if you find yourself wanting ityou won't be disappointed. This F. Dick. knivfe is excellent.

Very nice knife. Long blade with a sharp point for large food prep and for delicate work. Quite sharp out of the box. Likely will last the better part of a century, as I have some F. Dick knives from 1905 in the collection and they still sharpen up very well indeed.

The balance is amazing, the grip is so much more comfortable than wood or plastic, and you dont even feel the steel on the handle. The blade is so sharp! I love this knife, I couldn't have made a better choice. If your serious about your passion for Culinary and want a knife that will on advance you down further paths, this is the one!

This knife is beautifully crafted. I love the look of the rings. Of course, function is more important than looks...and it gets five stars in that department too! I did just get it today, but I couldn't wait to use it, so I gave it a pretty good workout. I couldn't be happier! It feels great in my hands and it chops and slices wonderfully. I'll be adding more of the F. Dick 1905 Series knives to my kitchen!

I have the 8-inch knife. It is made with the same steel as Dick's contemporaries, but is about 20% less expensive. The exaggerated curve allows for a better rocking motion and makes preparation much faster than with my Henkel and Wustof knives with a more triangular blade. The rounded spine and thinner bolster make a pinch grip far more comfortable than my Henkel Classics. Other than the 10-inch knife, this may have been the last knife I ever purchase for the kitchen.
