Zyliss Fresh Cut Salad Knife, Green

Zyliss Fresh Cut Salad Knife, GreenThis is a good, inexpensive and versatile knife that can be used as a spreader and server. I stumbled upon it when I needed an inexpensive item to meet the free shipping requirement.

It's good for cutting soft & leafy vegetables (lettuce, tomato), things that can be cut with sawing motion. It will not cut hard vegetable (carrot) that requires chopping motion.

It's particularly handy for making sandwiches. I can use it to spread the condiment, then slice the tomato or sweet pepper, and cut the sandwich in half at the end with just one knife. It's also great for cake, breads, brownies, etc.

It washes well in the dishwasher. A great buy overall!

My husband loves to eat iceberg lettuce salads. I got tired of tearing the lettuce up, so I decided to try this. Not only was the knife bigger than expected, but it's very sturdy and sharp. The grip is also very good for the average cook, but not as good as the grip on the Oxo Good Grips Lettuce Knife.

My boyfriend hates the sound of metal on metal, so when I saw that this knife is recommended for cutting cakes and brownies, it had even more appeal. It cuts lettuce like it is supposed to and so far it does seem like my lettuce hasn't been browning as quickly. It's nice using a knife that won't cut my fingers off either!

This is my favorite kitchen tool. It chops salads into even pieces in seconds. Just make a few slices in one direction and then across in the other direction. If you really want small pieces like gourmet chopped salads, just continue.

I was surprised at the number of people who have no idea that the brown edges on cut lettuce are from the metal on the knife they use. (Supposedly, this is rust.) I have used a plastic lettuce knife before and just recently found this one. Great price. Works just like it should. Once you try this, you'll NEVER cut lettuce with anything metal again.

8 Inch Come-Apart Kitchen Shears, RedThese shears work perfectly. They are well constructed, tough, sharp, and easy to clean. The handles are non-slip, which is nice. Worth the money.

I have average size guy hands. The work well, good feel. These have never come apart during use. Just don't see that being possible unless you have gigantic hands. Made in Germany.

Cuisinart Triple-Riveted Santoku Knife, Red Handle

Cuisinart Triple-Riveted Santoku Knife, Red HandleI received this knife as a Christmas present, and it instantly became my "go-to knife." I frequently choose it over my Wusthof set due to it's versatility and when I cut fish, it does not stick to the sides. Wonderful knife.

I love this knife. It's perfectly weighted and sized. I hate using large knives that are longer than my cutting board as I can't seem to keep control over them. This one is perfect. I can chop small things like celery and large things like a spaghetti squash. It's the only knife I need. I used it for two years now exclusively and it's still sharp. Love it!

Very sharp, thin and light. I used to cut hard veges like celery, carrots and to slice very thin chicken breast. It is very easy to handle. Great knife in the kitchen!!!

i didn't want to spend money on china made steel knives but i bought the 4" at a department store to try. i was really suprised how good the handling of the knife is so i bought 2 of this 5" ones. 1 for me and 1 for mom. the knife is sharp and easy to handle for smaller cutting and slicing. almost slice off my finger nails a couple of the times because it was so sharp.

as every knives, they should be dried after washing to prevent rusting or water residue on the blade. and i would recommend washing this knife by hand, dry and put away for lasting use.

Dexter-Russell S5198 Chinese Chef's Cleaver 8-in.

Dexter-Russell S5198 Chinese Chef's Cleaver 8-in.Chinese chef's cleavers are somewhat a mistranslation, as they are not true cleavers. It is actually used for as a slicer and chopper. Much like a French chef's knife or a Japanese Santoku bocho, a Chinese chef's cleaver is an all-purpose knife with a medium blade. It is known as "vegetable knife" to Chinese. This is not a thin blade slicer, nor a thick blade meat cleaver. Chinese chef's knife sits between the Chinese slicer and the Chinese cleaver. It is not designed for hacking through big bones, though thin chicken bones are acceptable.

I bought this knife on March 2009. Dexter-Russell Chinese chef's knives are highly regarded among Chinese chefs in America. This particular model S5198 is the best selling of them. Its blade is 8 inch in length and 3.25 inch in width. It spine is 3/32 inch thick, which is 1/32 inch thicker than my previous Sekizo Chinese chef's cleaver. The thicker spine gives the knife a sturdier feel and a heavier chop. The 3-1/4 inch walnut wood handle is nice. A wood handle is warmer to hold and allows a non-slip grip compared to a steel or plastic handle. I oiled the handle with tung oil to prevent it from absorbing too much water. The tang extends 40% into the walnut wood handle and can stand up to 500 pounds of pull. According to customer service, this Dexter-Russell S5198 is constructed out of 420 stainless steel and harden to Rockwell 54-56 HRC. Because normal 420 cannot be harden much above 50 HRC, this knife must be made of 420HC and not the normal 420. 55 HRC is normal for kitchen knives, but soft comparing to hard steel Japanese knives, like Shun or Hattori cutlery. For a given steel, there is a trade-off between strength and toughness. A very hard knife is resistance to low level impact, but will chip/crack when the force is great. A softer and tougher knife tends to give and have its edge roll up easier, but has greater resistance against chipping and cracking. As Chad Ward pointed out, "The most extreme examples of both would be the extremely hard, yet shatter-prone ceramic knives from Kyocera compared to very tough, soft stainless Chinese cleavers". Chinese chef's cleavers often are made out of softer and tougher stainless steel due to their all-purpose function. This is a stamped knife with no bolster, finished with a saber grind profile. I ground mine with a 15o back bevel and a 20o on the edge face. Finally, this knife is made in USA by Dexter-Russell, the largest and oldest American cutlery manufacturer. I rate this Chinese chef's cleaver between a 4-star score and a 5-star score. I am quiet happy with this knife and it is certainly a fine cutlery for its $30-40 price, so it deserves at least a 4-star rating. I am just not sure if it is exceptionally great given its 420HC stainless steel grade is rather common.

I have now moved toward the Chan Chi Kee (CCK) thin blade chef's knife due to its thinness.

*Skip the bottom if you already know how to hold a Chinese cleaver.*

Some of you probably are Chinese cleaver veterans, but for those of you who are not, here are some suggestions for holding a Chinese chef's cleaver. It is a pinch grip just like a French chef's knife. Hold your knife with your dominant hand. Have your thumb and index finger hold on the spine (slightly passed the bolster section), while the other three fingers wrap around the handle. Alternatively, have the thumb, index and middle fingers on the spine, and hold the handle with ring and little fingers. Both grips are acceptable. Hold your foods with your other hand with your fingers tips curl inward, allowing your minor knuckles or your joints exposed. Lean the side of the cleaver blade against your knuckles or your joints and you are good to chop, cut and slice, but never lift the blade edge above the knuckles/joints. In other words, your knuckles/joints will guide your cutting motion and preventing you from cutting yourself. I have uploaded a photo of this in this review.

Calling this a 'cleaver' is a bit off. Cleavers

are usually thought of as heavy, axe-like blades

ground to a convex profile and used with a swinging

motion to break or separate bones. This knife, on

the other hand is intended for all the cutting

tasks that one does in a kitchen with other knives.

What makes this the almost perfect knife is the width

of the blade. At over three inches, it provides a lot of

control surface in relationship to its edge. So the

cook who has learned to chop by guiding the knife

with his or her knuckles is almost immune from accidents.

The wide blade also makes this great for whacking

a clove of garlic before mincing it and for scooping

up chopped food from the cutting board.

The edge is easy to maintain-not too hard or too soft.

I use a chef's choice sharpener and keep the knife

on a magnetic tool bar to avoid knicking the blade.

The only thing wrong with this knife is the handle,

which is in a barrel shape and uncomfortable and

insecure in the hand. I modified mine with a bit

of coarse sandpaper, making grooves where my fingers

wanted to land.

This is my most frequently-used tool and one that I

recommend to students and friends.

I own a full set of J. A. Henckel Professional "S" series knives, and I love those... but it's this Dexter-Russell Chinese Vegetable Knife (the technical name) that I use for everything. It is easily the sharpest blade I have ever encountered, and easily the longest lasting edge I have ever encountered. When I first used my Henkels, I thought "Okay, this is what a great knife is..." and yes, that was great. Then, when I used this knife (after being inspired by the Chinese Made Easy show with Ching-He Huang), I realized that "THIS" is what a great knife is, and there is nothing like it. Just get it. You'll use it for everything. Careful thought, this thing will cut you up like crazy.

Although it is billed as a cleaver, I would not use it that way.

It is a beautifully weighted versatile knife with a comfortable handle.

This is a wonderful implement for rapidly chopping, pressing garlic quickly, etc.

It is very easy to care for. We keep the handle out of the water & wash it with warm, soapy water. It is then left either to air dry or wipe dry with a soft cloth.

We've used this knife for 28 years & it has held up well. The handle NEVER became loose. The original one was bought in Chinatown in NYC for about $5.00 (1981). I've seen this same knife in stores for $58, so this price here is quite good.

We thought we had left the knife somewhere, & decided to check with Amazon if they had it. Great news, it was there! After 28 years, we didn't expect it to be $5. Got it to Alaska for additional S&H-about $51 all together. Still less than the price in the store, no gas, no poking around looking for it.

Well, the original knife turned up after all, so now we have two & are happy for that-it is that good a knife! Actually-gave the new knife away as a present. It is a beloved, useful accompaniment-no, A NECESSITY in that household, too.

The knife was shipped all the way to Alaska in great condition. It was well packaged. NO problems.

You'll certainly be glad to own this knife. Yes, if you have access quickly to a Chinese grocery, you may find it. But absent that, this is a great alternative!

This is just simply a great versatile knife-good for bluntly chopping meats (thru bones, too), finely chopping herbs, etc.

NO complaints. Would buy again. (If the one from the 80's ever falls apart).

This particular knife was a present for my cousin who is just starting to get interested in cooking. I have many knives in my kitchen, most of them presents, and most of them junk. I use only two knives: this one and a 4 1/2" Wusthoff paring knife. Aside from specialty knives like ones to cut bread or open oysters, those are the only two knives you will ever need.

This knife looks like a meat cleaver. It is not, and never use it like one. It is a Chinese chef's knife and is a precision instrument. You do not wrap your hand around the handle your thumb and forefinger should extend beyond the handle and end up on either side of the blade to guide it through its stroke. Draw the knife gently through whatever you are cutting. You will find it wonderful for cutting vegetables for salads, and after you have sliced or chopped your onions or peppers, simply tilt the knife until it is nearly parallel to your chopping board and slide the chopped food onto the blade to transfer it to a bowl or pot.

Always rinse and dry your knife immediately after use and store it in the box in which it comes or in a proper knife block. This knife hold an edge better than any other knife in your kitchen. Eventually, however, you will need to dress the edge of the knife. When it refuses to cut a tomato as a razor would, use a good quality diamond-hone electric sharpener. You should need only the "hone" part of the device you don't need to take off any metal.

Never use the knife on anything other than a wooden or polyethylene chopping board never on a hard or brittle surface.

If you follow these directions, your knife will last almost forever and give you years of satisfying service. Mine is over 20 years old.

Oenophilia Coutale Sommeliers Corkscrew

Oenophilia Coutale Sommeliers CorkscrewThis is the best corkscrew of it's kind! I am a professional bartender and server and this is the only corkscrew I buy now for work and home. The design of the double-pump is much more ergonomic than your regular double-pump corkscrews and it makes much more sense. (It may take a minute to get the hang of it because it's the opposite lever direction than you're probably used to, but after a few times using it you'll love it.) It is also light-weight and durable, and the price is awesome!

Starting with:

The good, and in fact very good No question about it, the Coutale concept of a spring loaded smaller foot inserted within the main foot is brilliant, way better than just about anything (two part foot, broken, and of course single) to extricate a recalcitrant cork. The short but coated screw goes in nicely and manages dry corks pretty well. Grade: A.

However, moving on to:

The bad and rather obnoxious Once pulled out and used, the foot doesn't fit snugly back in the main body of the corkscrew and instead flops about like a broken wrist and gets in the way, making the task of threading, specially through tough corks, more irritating that it should be. B-/C.

But it goes from bad to:

Very, very ugly The foil cutting blade on the sommelier version is an absolute, total disaster, a pathetically dull blade with a ridiculously pointed end that is very successful at slicing careless fingers (nothing like a blood stained label as a selling ploy), and perhaps killing pigs, but is near useless at cutting through foil. Very disappointing and ubersucky: I've resorted to removing the foil completely, which rather spoils the presentation, or using a separate knife or foil cutter in all cases. If this was a play for the triumph of form over function (it looks good) then bravo, otherwise it gets an F.

The worst of it is that these problems are FIXABLE, if not by the buyer. I'm a professional in the wine trade who may open up to a dozen bottles on any day: I can't imagine how obnoxious these issues must be for a sommelier who pulls double that each day. I'd pay triple if these glitches were fixed. As such, the good parts are the only things that keep me from forgetting this corkscrew in a drawer.

I liked the design, especially for fragile corks, but after 8 months of home use the screw fell out of the main body.

I own two of these corkscrews and have been very impressed. As a professional bartender these corkscrews allow me to open a bottle of wine in moments and provide a sharp blade that I can multitask. My only complaint, as seems to be a common one, is that the arm of the corkscrew becomes loose very quickly and tends to "flop" around. Regardless, I would definitely purchase more of these in the future.

I took a chance on this product due to the high reviews here on Amazon. I'm glad I did. I like everything about it! The weight is just right, the material provides a good grip and a nice aesthetic, and the action is very smooth. The knife works very well, the bottle opener can be used without moving anything, and all the parts came well lubricated. Highly recommended.

Edit: I guess I've had this for awhile now, but I'm upset to report that it recently broke. The plastic "head" piece that surrounds the blade-casing on top broke off like a clamshell. Perhaps I should have been more careful with it, but I wish that one piece had been constructed a bit more sturdily. I still recommend this, but don't think I'll be buying a second knowing my butter-fingers.

  • Blade Size: 3-1/4"

As soon as I saw the deal, I had to purchase 2. I had one for many years; always fairly sharp and got the job done for relatively small hands pretty quickly so I had to pick up another one. My husband also comments how easy to handle this paring knife is also. It isn't a knife that scares you because of how sharp it looks but doesn't perform, it is sharp and comfortable for many tasks in the kitchen.

Shenzhen Knives White Ceramic Slicing Knife, 5-Inch

Shenzhen Knives White Ceramic Slicing Knife, 5-InchWhile I can't yet address durability issues with either of my Shenzhen knives, I have to say that these knives make a very good first impression. I've waited a long time for ceramic knife prices to drop down into the consumer range, and I've yet to be disappointed with any ceramic I've purchased.

Things you'll notice: ceramic blades tend to be a little thicker than their metallic cousins. At the same time, they're lighter. These are not blades you'll use for hacking through bones, because ceramic blades can chip if abused. They're hard, but hardness means brittleness. (You can break a steel knife, too, if you work at it hard enough.) For ordinary household usage, though, you'll find that ceramics like this are perfectly suited for what you do in the kitchen on a daily basis.

Shenzhen presents itself as a mid-tier brand, and definitely hits the mark where the price point is concerned. Compared to Kyocera I think they probably come in second place (although Shenzhen comes in ahead on the design of the handles, which I like better than the Kyocera handles), but they don't come behind in proportion to the price difference. In general, the Kyocera products are 67% to 100% more expensive than the Shenzhen, and while the Kyoceras are probably better (maybe--I'm still not sure), they're not THAT much better.

This is a great introduction to ceramic knives if you're interested in adding one or more to your kitchen arsenal. Read up on how to treat ceramic knives, though. (Never, ever, EVER in the dishwasher!) You definitely have to take care of them differently than a steel knife--but they don't cause acidic foods to brown, they're easier to clean, and they don't corrode or rust.

The first few weeks, we put the knife back in the box it came in, cradled in foam. Then we set it in a special place on the counter away from everything else. Now we just hand wash and put it in the knife drawer wooden holder with all of the other good knives. My wife is a lot less careful with it than I am. She cut into an avacado and cut right through the seed with a "wow, that's sharp" at the end.

Will try to give an update in a year but so far it was an excellent purchase.

Update: After 3 mos the edge became so dull it was unusable. I've tried sharpening it with several diamond sharpeners but can't return the edge to sharpe. I'll likely end up throwing it away because it is just taking up space.

We were using it daily. If you only use it once or twice a week it could last a year or two.

2nd Update: The vendor responded to my last update with suggestions on sharpening my knife and an offer to replace it since it was dull in 3 mo. First, kudos go to any vendor that cares enough to monitor Amazon product reviews and followup constructively. I have revised my rating to 3 stars because customer service is an impotant part in the purchasing experience and the first knife did last 2 mos with daily use without sharpening (something I can't say about our Henkels). I'll try to leave a review on my experience with the replacement knife.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 2-Piece Hollow-Ground Asian Knife Set

Wusthof Grand Prix II 2-Piece Hollow-Ground Asian Knife SetI'm a young college student who works at a restaurant as a waiter. Like many young people, I one day got a fleeting aspiration that would probably go away within a couple of weeks. I wanted to be an awesome cook, so the first thing I did was ask the chef at my restaurant what tools I needed to start. He told me a good kitchen knife is THE essential tool of the chef. He recommended I go to Williams Sonoma and try out every knife possible but warned me that chef knives cost close to $100 dollars each. Whoa! He also said that Santoku blades are very popular these days because they're extremely versatile and feel good in your hands (something about balance).

Nonetheless, I went to Williams-Sonoma the next day and tried out the Henkels, Wustof Classic, Wustof Grand Prix, Wustof Grand Prix 2, Globals, and Shuns. I ultimately chose the Wustof Grand Prix 2 because of the perfect balance in the knife. It felt perfect. The handle was much grippier than the others, extremely light, but not as thin as the Globals (which I thought might lead to a blister), or with the unnatural offset handle of the Shun (Left handers actually feel that it works perfectly I'm a righty like the majority of people). I'm extremely paranoid of cutting myself ever since my mom cut herself pretty bad and after handling that particular knife, I was confident I would never cut myself. I eventually purchased it on Amazon with in an asian knife set (paring knife + santoku).

When I finally used it for the first time, I seriously could not believe how quickly I could cut. I always thought it was skill that the chefs at my workplace would use to dice things, slice meats, or chop veggies. Was I ever wrong! Any idiot using a knife this sharp and this balanced could cut like a master. I was cutting slices of apples so incredibly thin I started laughing! They were so thin, I could see through them! Tomatoes cut with no effort. After purchasing this knife, I started buying more and more kitchen supplies to match that same euphoria.

A year has passed, and for my recent birthday, my friends got me a gift certificate to Williams Sonoma. I am known amongst my friends as the guy who can cook an amazing meal. I owe it all to this knife! I'm very lazy, and if I took the same time cutting stuff as a I used to before I owned this knife, I simply would not cook for myself let alone others. I take this knife with me wherever I cook I refuse to use other people's knives. Even at work, I hate trying out my coworkers knives. They feel unnatural. I've even gotten comments when I cut up fruit for friends. They literally hear it come out of the knife block and look to see what made that sweet shimmering noise.

I rank this as #4 on my list of top 10 things I own. The first 3 being my North Face Goretex Jacket to get me through the winter walking to classes in Michigan. The second being my Computer so I can buy stuff and write reviews here. The third being my waterproof sneakers (again for the winter). I place this knife before my mp3 player, my stereo, my TV, my xbox, my Playstation 2, and all my Calphalon pans put together. I might even go so far as to put it in front of my absolutely adorable toy maltese-poodle mix (he's related to Jessica Simpson's dog). This review may seem a little far-fetched, but I am simply in love with my knife.

Pros Extremely good construction, Perfect Balance, Good Grip, Easy to Clean, Comes presharpened, Haven't needed to resharpen or even hone since I've owned it, looks good, grooves prevent food from sticking, able to cut extremely thin, Handle allows multiple grips to be used.

Cons Not dishwashable, my girlfriend left it in water overnight to soak, left permanent watermarks on my blade. Grr. Not cheap! Have no clue how to claim lifetime warranty, Tang is only 3/4 length (but also makes the knife lighter).

Try out as many knives before you purchase. Only 1 type will feel "right" to you. But if you think like me (safety first) then you'll love this knife.

Edit I wrote this review on just the Santoku Knife. The review for the additional paring knife is below.

The 3 1/2 inch paring knife could have been better had it not had that teardrop design. A more traditional paring knife with the pointy tip would have been much more useful. You have no clue how frustrating it is to cut dill with this teardrop style paring knife as opposed to a traditional paring knife. Also, the Grand Prix II grip doesn't work as effectively for the smaller knife. It seems a bit more slippery than the Classic line when it comes to the paring knife.

But still awesome knife set overall.

This set is just 20 dollars more for the pairing knife, than the one without. You can not buy a Wusthof knife for 20 dollars. I watched Rachael Ray for too long on the Food Channel cutting easily at her veggies. These knives are some of the best quality knives you can buy. The specially made blade does enable a quick, accurate cut.

The grip and the weight of these knives give them an excellent balance that simply is impossible to be beat. These two knives have quickly become my most used knives for everyday. I would highly recommend these knives if you are looking to start or add to your knive collection.

Bought these knives for my wife and she says the larger knife she would rate a 5 and the little knife she would rate a 3, hence the 4-star rating. The larger knife seems to hold an edge longer than the smaller blade, but that's probably due to the different usage of each knife. Have been careful to wash/dry after each use, so no rust yet. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

Evriholder Flipper Bytes Sandwich Crust Cutters

Evriholder Flipper Bytes Sandwich Crust CuttersThis is a neat little gadget! I bought it so I could make cute sandwiches for my kids' bento boxes. It works really well. I found that if I sort of smush and flatten the sandwich before you use the cutter it turns out better.

I already have the hearts, trains and dinosaurs, so I was pleased to find the dolphin to supplement our collection.

I love these because they are easy to use and easy to clean. As long as you are using 'typical' sized bread, like Wonder and Nature's Own, there isn't a problem. Just line up the cutter on the bread, make sure you are in a hard, flat surface and push straight down. While pushing, wiggle ever so slightly back and forth to release the crusts from the cutter. Voila! Done.

If the bread is very soft, it will smash the sandwich some. It does take some effort to push it through things like meat and harder cheeses. Sometimes, I would recommend cutting the bread first and separately before you create the sandwich. We like to do this with grilled cheese. Cut the bread, butter the bread, put on the pan and add cheese. Makes it loads easier.

My favorite part is that I can toss these into the dishwasher and not have to think about them again.

After using a Henckels Four Star 7" hollow-edge Santoku as my main mid-size knife for years, I decided to try the Four Star II 6" chef's knife, which is a bit heftier and has a curved blade. It is very sharp and well balanced, and I'm finding myself using it more than the Santoku. My wife, on the other hand, prefers the lightness of the Santoku. So our set has grown, but not at the expense of any of its members. The quality and versatility keep our preparation time more manageable. We strongly recommend the Four Star II 6" chef's knife, as well as other members of that line, of which we own several.

Kalorik DO36918SS Electric Can Opener

Kalorik DO36918SS Electric Can OpenerI really like this can opener. I would give it five stars but it rips off the labels on cans and makes a mess in the gears. I just remove labels first. Not really a big deal. It does hold the can until you remove it. It is almost possible to open cans one handed.

Chicago Cutlery Essentials 8-Inch Chef Knife

Chicago Cutlery Essentials 8-Inch Chef KnifeI thought this might be a low-price branch of the Chicago Cutlery brand but it is a well built, solidly constructed knife with a nice balance. The steel may be slightly thinner than some, but it holds a sharp edge well. [It has the Chicago Cutlery "tm" logo, but there is no marking stating country of manufacture.]

I use these knives in my cooking classes. Great quality product at a very affordable price. I've purchased about 10 of these knives for our partner agencies to use to run their own cooking classes.

It's my second favorite knife it's comfortable to use and works on everything I've tried it on. I'm very happy with it.

The knife is quite nice, but the handle is very narrow and small. If your hands are small, this knife might work well for you, but otherwise, the balance feels weird.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 6-Inch All Purpose Prep Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 6-Inch All Purpose Prep KnifeFor many years, I have been using an 8" Wusthof Grand Prix as my main prep knife. I wanted something a little smaller and looked long and hard before deciding on this one. It's a great knife: very good ergonomically, stout enough to whack a clove of garlic without fear, VERY sharp, holds an edge very well, and has an almost ideal rocker to the blade for chopping. This has now become my prep knife of choice unless I need the extra size and weight of the Wusthof for specific tasks like cutting a squash I've been using it nightly for about a month and will update this review as time goes on if I discover any issues with it. So far, there are none. It's a joy to use and seems to be quite rugged.

One caution--when mine arrived it had come loose in its OEM packaging (it was still inside another box, thankfully) and the tip was protruding out of the cardboard at one end. Be careful to check yours when it arrives so you don't get cut accidentally. Also make sure if it's loose that the tip is not broken. I was lucky and mine wasn't. I can't hold that little problem against Amazon (who double-boxed as they should) or the knife, though. It must have taken a heck of a whack during shipping.

Oster 22882 star blade for meat and food grinder.

Oster 22882 star blade for meat and food grinder. The cutter did not fit my Oster food chopper/grinder. It was 3/32 (.093) of an inch too long which I ground off and then I had to made the square id go all the way through the part, clearly not made for this grinder

I love my grinder when I have great new blades in it. They get dull slowly and you don't notice how bad they are till you put new ones in.

I was able to locate a hard to find item that would work on my aged Oster grinder. The new blade was a perfect match and I am back to grinding my deer meat. I researched the Oster grinder parts specifications prior to ordering to ensure the correct blade was available.

Zyliss Handheld Pizza Wheel with Stainless-Steel Blade

Zyliss Handheld Pizza Wheel with Stainless-Steel BladeUSING

> The sharp blade will cut anything up to 1 1/2" thick, including pizza, dough, brownies, muffins, pita bread, thin sandwiches, etc.

> Since there is no handle, you've got much better leverage, particularly if you are standing and the pizza is on a normal-height table. I'm not sure I'd say that it is easy for the elderly with weak wrists (it can still take some force to break a crisp crust), but it is certainly far easier than standard pizza cutters, particularly if you keep it sharp. Folks with weak wrists could use both hands.

> To keep it sharp, it is best to cut your pizza (etc.) on a wooden or plastic cutting board---not on a metal pan. If you buy frozen pizza, then save the round cardboard beneath the pizza to cut it on.

HOW TO OPEN

With the "Zyliss" nameplate facing you (as in the photo above), grasp the tab on the right side with the thumb and forefinger of your right hand. Push up with your thumb, push down with your forefinger. (It's a twisting motion). The shell will pop open. Continue in the same direction (counterclockwise) to rotate the shell open. DO NOT try to pull the shell apart, it ROTATES opens on a short "axle" (on the left side, opposite the tab) like the hands on a clock.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE

With the shell fully open, grasp the blade and slide it into the slot in the bottom side of the shell (the side WITHOUT the Zyliss nameplate). Then rotate the shell closed.

STORAGE

To protect the blade from dings and your fingers from danger, it is best to hang the Pizza Wheel on a plastic hook by the 3/8" hole in the blade. Unfortunately the blade is non-magnetic, and so will not stick to a magnetic knife rack. If you store the Pizza Wheel in a kitchen-tool-drawer, then I suggest using the temporary flimsy plastic blade cover which is part of the packaging.

CLEANING

Disassemble, and handwash, or wash in your dishwasher. It is best to hang the blade in a hook or place it in a plastic basket to protect both your dishwasher rack and the cutting edge. According to other reviewers, dishwasher washing weakens the plastic shell so that it breaks after a year or two. I've used mine at least once-a-week for about two year, with no problems---albeit, I always hand wash it. I also suspect that it is primarily the drying cycle of dishwashers which actually damages plastic---indeed some dishwashers don't have drying cycles. Actually metal and ceramic dishes will usually dry fine without a drying cycle---it just takes a few more hours, and saves alot of electricity. So, you might consider turning the drying cycle off, if you have that option.

SHORTCOMINGS

The Pizza Wheel is large---about 5 1/2" across. If you are not good at visualizing how big that is, I suggest check out the size with a ruler. Don't buy it to save space, it won't

The smooth plastic surface can be slippery, and might be a problem in small weak children's hands. A pebbly surface, or raised lines would be easier to grip with wet or greasy fingers, but would be less attractive and not as easy to clean. The Zyliss Pizza Wheel is as safe or safer than any other pizza cutter---but ANY tool with a blade is potentially unsafe in the wrong hands. Note also that tools with dull blades are actually more dangerous than tools with sharp blades (because the extra strength required reduces control)---treat it like a fine chef's knife---keep it sharp---keep it away from small children. I can't believe it, but lawnmowers are now intentionally being sold with dull blades as a "safety" feature.

EVALUATION

Fits perfectly into the palm of an adult hand. Cuts almost effortlessly. Disassemblies and cleans easily.

PACKAGING PROBLEMS

The reason for the few less-than-five-star reviews is the "international packaging", which essentially excludes any meaningful instructions. The Pizza Wheel is very easy to use, easy to open, easy to reassemble etc., but is intimidating if you don't know how. A single wordless cartoon the size of a postage stamp does not constitute "meaningful instructions". I've seen other good products (such as laptop computer locks) getting awful reviews for the same reason---no meaningful instructions. Amazon should require meaningful English language (or English and Spanish) instructions on all the products they sell in the U.S.(but my bet is that Amazaon REQUIRES international packaging---since everything I buy from Amazon comes in "international packaging").

If you love superbly designed kitchen gadgets (particularly if you are looking for a gift for cook), I suggest that you strongly consider a OXO Good Grips Pepper Mill; aZyliss Food Chopper, White a OXO Good Grips Mini Chopper, a Microplane Professional Extra Coarse Grater and a Microplane 40020 Classic Zester/Grater (if you haven't yet discovered the joy of zesting lemons and oranges, this is the tool to learn with)

This pizza wheel has three things going for it. First, because you put your weight directly above the wheel as it's cutting, it cuts much more easily than traditional pizza wheels. Second, because it comes apart easily and can be put in the dishwasher, it's easier to clean than other pizza wheels. Finally, mine stayed sharp for years (until a friend borrowed it and ran it over metal pizza trays for an afternoon). What else is there?

I will start off by saying that I only got one because I am a giant fan of Good Eats and Alton has busted this cutter out multiple times.

I've made a handful of pizza's, all different crust styles and this thing eats through them with ease.

I don't need to use nearly as much pressure as i've had to with other pizza cutters, I feel like I have a great deal more control and over all it just cuts really well.

Cleaning is a snap (no pun intended)..Snap it apart, clean the blade, dry it, clean the plastic, dry it, put it back together.

If anything happens to mine, i'll be getting another

i have used my white one for years, and finally got a red one for a splash of extra color... they are great stocking stuffers or gifts for your foodie friends.

also, this works wonderfully well for those with limited hand strength (osteo, rheumatoid arthritis). my girlfriend can attest to its usefulness in this regard.

I purchased this pizza cutter for my 88-year old father who had his right hand amputated long ago. A nurse told me about a patient who used a pizza cutter to cut his meat, so I sent my Dad this one. He loves it! He says he is only sorry he didn't think of it years ago. Please pass on this tip if you know anyone who could use it.

Zelco Mangia Portable 3-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1, Green

Zelco Mangia Portable 3-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1, GreenWe took Mangia tool sets to China, where knives and forks are not always available. The knife, fork and spoon pack neatly into the plastic cover, and a set is not too heavy to carry around. The cover could be a tad larger it is a snug fit, and the cover on one of our sets cracked when snapped shut when the implements were not quite nested together perfectly. The cover was handy following a meal, when the cover could be snapped over the implements and the food residue was prevented from making a mess inside a pocket or purse.

these utensils are really great.

they stainless steel makes it easy to clean and it doesnt go bad if you dont clean them immediately. the size is perfect and they slide to gether perfectly. the cover is great as well.

i have already bought this for my boyfriend and sister in law to use. they also love it.

perfect for the office, camping and just anywhere on the go. I keep one in my purse and one in my lunch bag. I have been out to eat at a restraurant/fast food before and while everyone else was dealing with plastic utensils I pulled my set out of my purse and enjoyed my meal without dealing with a flimsy utensil.

Love it and have bought my parents two sets as well for all their camping. Great gift idea for anyone!~!!!!

I hate eating with plastic and I avoid it whenever possible. Besides breaking easily, being bad for our environment and generally not working well, it diminishes the eating experience for me. So when I stumbled on the Zelco 3 piece flatware set I decided to give it a try. I must say, it really fits my life style.

I travel sometimes for work so I often eat lunch at work and dinner in a hotel. I also prefer to bring my own healthy food, although I will grab some takeout on occasion. To eat with my own clean stainless flatware is a joy compared to the plastic landfill garbage. I would go as far as bring some from the kitchen drawer, but feared I would eventually loose a piece.

The Zelco set is now my solution. It is compact and easy to clean. It is sturdy. The knife is sharp. I am good to go.
