My husband asked for this as a gift. I chose the cherry colored wood for him. It's so pretty, I feel bad about getting it dirty! But I quickly took it over and added it to my collection. :) Very nice weight to it. Candy apple red is right! These knives caught my eye because of the awesome color of the handles and of course I had to have them. I'm thinking "they're knives... they have a handle and a stainless steel blade, what else do I need in a knife?" Clearly I'm no 4-star chef and my previous set of knives was a cheap Farberware set of serrated knives that I had owned for twenty years. I wish this set had a 7" Santoku instead of the included 4" version but no big deal, I purchased the 7" separately.Well, they are knives and they cut, chop, slice and are quite useable. But then I washed them and placed in my dish drainer to dry and found rust spots on the blades. WTF?! These aren't made of iron, they are forged stainless steel... even my cheap Farberware knives NEVER developed any rust and I treat 'em pretty rough, leaving them wet all the time as I toss them into the sink and what not. I'm very disappointed about this as I've never seen any of my cutlery or flatware rust.
In summary these knives look great and certainly do the job but I panic if I forget to wash and dry these knives immediately after use. These knives are a great set and good value. Knives are very sharp and very well built. We get lots of use out of them and they never disappoint,

As a daily lunch carrier, having a cover for a pairing knife is key if you want to cut up fresh fruit and veggies and not worry about the knife cutting through your lunch box. I have placed these in the dishwasher (w/out heat dry) and have been very pleased. This product works great and as described, but the "Product Dimensions" listed under "Product Details" are actually the dimensions of the packaging. I purchased a variety of sizes of these guards to protect blade edges, fingers, and my knife roll. They work as advertised, fitting snugly on even thin blades. Perhaps a bit difficult to put on, but this seems consistent with the secure fit once attached. Sizes from paring to large chef's work the same.Curious Chef 5-Piece Pizza Kit

Shun Pro 2 Series 6 in. Yanagiba Steak Knife VGE0150ST
This is for sushi/sashimi, not steak as described by some!!!!!!I have half a dozen Shun knives in the Stainless Series which are beautiful and functional on their own with their 16 degree cutting angle.
I've been making sushi/sashimi and rolls for 15 years. Finally took a short course to improve the aesthetics of my finished product and my wife treated me to this Pro 2 Series knife to encourage me.
First of all, compared to the larger ones in the Pro 2 Series, this is affordable. It is truly a beautiful knife as far as finish and functionality.
The sharp cutting angle and one sided bevel cut really do make all the difference in the world as far as how sashimi and sushi look in the end.
I found that I did need the 8.26" version as well but had to settle for the Pro rather than the Pro 2 Series due to cost.
If you really get in to sushi/sashimi preparation, treat yourself to one of them as well as the Pro 8.26 inch to cover all of your bases (depends on how large an item you are slicing).
If you want to stare at a knife, the Pro 2 is truly a wondrous work of art.
P.S. Don't be nice and loan it to anyone. I wouldn't.
Wish I could frame this one!
Wusthof Classic Ikon 14-Piece Knife Set with Block, Black
We've always wanted a set of Wusthof Classic Ikon knives. We loved this set and decided this was the time. We're a normal family who uses our knives on a daily basis, but I would consider us cooking novices...certainly not cooking experts. With that said, these knives are truly a work of art. They're beautiful and amazingly sharp. We decided to also purchase the 5" serrated knife and the 4" santoku separately to round out the set. Best thing we've done. This is a great set of knives and a set we plan to own for the rest of our lives.
Yoshihiro Cutlery Hammered Damascus Petty Chef Knife, 5-Inch
Spending almost a month doing research on Amazon's wide selection of kitchen cutlery, I'm so glad I ignored the previous 3 star review on this knife and bought it on a hunch. I think this is AWESOME value for such a great knife. Out of the box, it showed no mercy prepping onions, garlic cloves, mushrooms, carrots and celery with buttery precision. Also, I really love the taper design of these Asian petty knives as it allows me to speed up at the tip for smaller veggies. I think this knife actually looks better in person than the picture as the blade's almost chrome-like finish mingled with the damascus swirls is a testament to the fine finishing craftsmanship of the blade. If you need a small prep knife, THIS IS IT! Wanted to buy a real Japanese kitchen knife. Really glad that I bought this one from Yoshihiro Cutlery. The craftsman ship and beauity is stunning. The wood handle on the full tang that extends from the hammered damascus blade, has so much depth that no photo can show the full detail. As for cutting, the blade is the smoothest and sharpest that I've ever used. Service was the best, shipped, solidly packed-so arrived in perfect condition. My score is a 5+ as every aspect of this transaction was flawless.Buy Yoshihiro Cutlery Hammered Damascus Petty Chef Knife, 5-Inch Now

I just received this product today. The seller was also very quick with their service.I haven't been able to play with it long, but here are my first impressions:
1. It's well built. No noticeable edges or gaps. The handle feels good. The blade looked good. It looks like like the picture. So, it's obviously a western style handle.
2. The blade is crazy sharp. I only cut carrots so far, but it was pretty effortless. It came with a great edge. I didn't need to fix it.
3. Price is great. I mean, Shun gets all the love, but seriously look at the prices between the two brands for Hammered Damascus VG-10 steel. I actually work in a lab, so if it will fit, I may just get the blade tested in the SEM to verify the material. ;)
I can't wait to cook more things with it. I'm honestly just looking for excuses to use it. I'll update more later after a week or two of use.
11/12/12 Update. Just was cooking chicken breast in the pan and I had to butterfly the chicken breast to cook it all the way through. This knife cut it like butter. I never have used a knife that cut so well. I applied almost no pressure. Very easy to control the cut.

BUYER BEWARE! These are being offered at a low price because they are actually 18/0 stainless steel, not 18/8 as Amazon specs incorrectly state. The numbers 18/0 and 18/8 refer to the percentage of content of chromium and nickel. To be classified as stainless steel, the metal must contain at least 11% chromium (no nickel required). Stainless steel used in cookware is normally 18% chromium and 8% to 10% nickel.
Low end stainless steel cookware, mixing bowls, stockpots and accessories are usually 18/0, which are usually not highly polished, and could be subject to some rust spotting. This is the third time I have purchased this pattern, the first two times having been a number of years ago. It is very similar to my sterling pattern, International's 1810; but as the price of silver increased over the years, I could not afford to add to my sterling. Boston Colonial was attractive and affordable for our growing family.
I went ahead and purchased it again in spite of negative comments here because I needed it for a visit from children and grandchildren. The set is basically attractive, and I have found that differences between the new set and my old set are not readily apparent in normal use. However, I agree with those who are disappointed in the downgrade of this pattern. Pieces feel lighter, particularly the knives, and the effort to make the knife handles look as hefty as their predecessors is unfortunate.
I have had the set only about a month so can't really assess its durability. However, so far I don't notice many scratches; and I am washing it in the dishwasher without seeing any corrosion.

I ordered this set because Amazon specs say it's 18/8 steel. However, when I received it, the box says 18/0 which is much lower quality. The pieces look really nice, and I wonder if maybe the box is wrong. Can't know so I'm sending it back.I received this set and returned it within a month. It started rusting. I finally went to the Silver Superstore on line. They have a line of flatware that is made in the USA. Unfortunately, after Oneida closed their USA plant, it has become harder to find flatware that isn't made in China, Vietnam or Indonesia. Check out silversuperstore.com. They have a whole section of "not made in China" flatware.Want Oneida Colonial Boston 45-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 Discount?
This flatware set is the same pattern I have had in the past. I was given some when I went away to college and they were great. The set I have were stamped S.S.S made in USA by Oneida and were virtually care free, just use em throw em in the dishwasher and rinse and repeat. Normally I don't take time to review, but this set is so bad I just have to warn anyone looking at this item. This set I bought from amazon is absolute garbage, they were terrible from the moment I took them out of the box. They were clearly very poorly made. First of all the box says they are 18/0 steel which is not what I ordered, the utensils themselves say 5/10 made in Indonesia and the website here said 18/10...very confusing. So I looked it up, Oneida's website classes them as casual flatware, which is listed as 18/0. The pieces themselves looked like they had been quickly polished, or dipped in some kind of plating that was not on the handles. The handles look more like brushed steel, and there were definitely a difference between the handles and the business end. Also, the handles were rough and sharp on some sides, and smooth on others with no consistency at all. They were also covered in spots with a black soot that might have been from the forging but did not come out with washing. I should have sent them back but I'm new to amazon and don't have a lot of time and I did not wan to mess with it for 50$. So I kept them...and things got worse.A mere 4 weeks after purchase, I had washed them about 3 times (I don't go through a lot of utensils)and I began to get rust pitting on the spoons, clear evidence of the poor quality steel. I am using a dishwasher with a main brand of regular gel detergent, nothing fancy. The knives however were even worse! On some of the knives I got SEVERE rusting ALL up and down the handle to the point where its not even usable. Its to the point now where I find new degradation on every wash cycle, yet my old utensils Ive had for a decade are just as perfect as when I got them. The bottom line, this set is absolute garbage and I would not recommend this set to anyone. In fact, I am going to call Oneida and tell them how bad their product really is.
In regards to amazon, my order shipped out slower than EVERY other company I've ordered from online. The price was good which is why I purchased here and others seem to like Amazon but it has not been a great experience for a first time buy, I'm very skeptical about what you can get on here but ill give it another chance.
Sunbeam Duo-Band 8-Piece Cookware Set
You get what you pay for so don't expect gourmet cook ware. However for the money this set is pretty good. The bottoms have a decent layer of metal. They clean up very easily.I had planned to give this set away.I wound up with them and find myself reaching for them often.Even though I have some better cook ware.As I said these do clean up easily.Every time my husband or I cook with these we comment how nice they are. We've had them for six months and even joke that we don't have to say something about them every single time we use them yet we still do! Nothing and I mean nothing sticks to them. The only thing I don't cook in them is fried eggs because the egg whites are the same color as the ceramic coating so I can't see the edges of the eggs. (They'd be perfect for eggs otherwise.) We've been able to cook everything else with no oil (if we choose to do so) and love the results. Never need soaking. Super easy to clean. Highly recommend!Oster Cocinando Covered Caldera
I am enjoying using this caldera, I love the color and the non-stick surface! I also like the fact that the lid has a small steam release in it, so that I don't have to leave the lid at an angle to release steam. My only complaints were 1; it would be easier to use if there was a handle with a protective grabbing surface. I am constantly stirring my ingredients and saute' items in this pot before adding more, it's a pain to have to use a pot holder with this. That was no surprise, though, the item's photo clearly shows that the handles are uncovered and small. The surprise that I *did* get was the label. It took me hours to remove it! Even with oil based remover I had to treat it, then tear off a small piece, then treat it then tear off a small piece. It was a sticky/laminated mess! A simple paper label would have been much easier to remove (or a gummy-backed inside-the-pot paper with information on it). A silly complaint, in some ways, but a big time-waster to me.The pot and lid, though, have been great and I love the color! I am going back to look for a slightly larger size now, I like to make enough food so that my husband can take the leftovers to work with him for a day or two and this isn't quite large enough for that + the family's meal.item arrived slightly damaged, but I had already disposed of the packing. Slight damage should not effect use. Good price for the pot.
Fagor Michelle B. 3-Piece Prep Cutlery Set
Over all, I'm happy but not thrilled with these knives. They are reasonably sharp, but not super sharp. The color looks like the photo online, which is good, since I love that color. These knives are slightly smaller than I would like if these knives were slightly longer, I would like them more. My main complaint however is that the blade covers do not fit snuggly nor consistently. The covers fit adequately on two of the three knives (not snug, but adequate), but the cover is very loose on the other one. It is so loose that if I pick the knife up out of the drawer, the cover will fall off of its own accord. Not a great safety feature in my opinion. I thought I would use these knives more often for slicing fruit and vegetables, but I wind up using my large Oneida knife 90% of the time, even for smaller jobs like fruit. That is probably because the Oneida knife is sharper and also because, if the fruit or veggie does wiggle a little bit, the knife is still long enough to do the job. In the future, I will probably pay a little more for one knife that is the same size or slightly larger than the largest knife in this set, rather than rely on this set of knives.I have purchased 2 of these sets. Like it so much I bought another for a gift. Excellent quality for the price.Buy Fagor Michelle B. 3-Piece Prep Cutlery Set Now

I guess I was expecting too much from an inexpensive knife set. These really disappointed me. One of the three knives actually felt sharp, the other two were dull feeling right out of the package. They feel cheap. The color is nice, but I think I actually would have preferred if the blade had been a different color than the handle.I was looking for a few sheathed prep knives that had a non-stick resin coating on the blades. I also didn't want to pay Kuhn Rikon prices. I am a fan of Michelle Bernstein, and have found Fagor to make quality utensils and cookware, so I thought I would give these a try. The quality was good for the price. The handles were light but comfortable, and felt as though they had some kind of non-slip coating, though I could be wrong about that. I especially liked the santoku. However, I returned the set because the utility knife was only partially serrated. I had plannned to use it to cut breads, so this was a big flaw.Plastic Silver SPOONS China Like Baroque 20ct

I had purchased 100 spoons, also 100 each of the knives and forks. At first I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and the look of them, they looked like real silver! I am using these for my backyard wedding and was super excited to see these as an option. Once I began rolling these up into bundles with napkins individually, I was able to see each one. The forks and knives are all great! The spoons however, have many black splotches on them where there is no silver, not that it had flaked off, but it was smooth, like it came from the manufacturer that way. Also, I had noticed that several packages in the shipping box were opened. I thought maybe they came undone during shipping. When I was finished, I was missing one spoon! I had ordered exactly 100 and only got 99 spoons! I looked in the box, nowhere to be found. I am disappointed with the care the shipper gave these. These knives are a complement to anyones collection of nice knives. They cut through steak like it is butter. I am a line cook and have this bag for 3 months. I carry this bag to work w/ me everyday. And unfortunately..... First off its already falling apart. Seams are coming undone, things you would understand are normal wear and tear but you'd also expect it to last more than three months. Secondly; I've noticed this comment made, it doesn't come w/ a strap. Funny thing is it has a ring on each end of the bag for a strap to connect to? Third the quality isn't strong enough to withstand knives that are in fact sharp. The material itself is to fragile to place sharp knives into w/o having blade savers or a soft cover, which will dull the blade anyways. This is a great bag though if you don't travel a lot w/ your knives. If your using this knife roll for storage than this would work fine, otherwise I'd recommend spending the extra money on something that will last.good quality for the price... the only thing is, it does not come with the belt, which would make it easier to carry around.

Does not come with a strap, altho that was known before purchasing. What was not known, however, was that the stitching on the piece of nylon that holds the strap D-ring in place would come undone after a whopping two very mild uses. Not into the idea of refurbishing or repairing an item that's got all of 2 hours of use on it.Knives are great... this particular roll, not so much.
Dexter Traditional Wood Handle 8 x 3-1/4" Chinese Chefs Knife
A very sharp knife, very good to cut meat(boneless) and chop vegetables. BUT: I chopped my first onion and the blade stained, and I do not think that even a blow torch will not remove stain. Handle way too small for large hands making it a bit unstable. This is the lowest cost item in Dexter Russell's line of Chinese knives. Just as sharp as all the others. High carbon steel guarantees the sharpest blade possible, and will eventually develop a patina. Every Chinese restaurant kitchen has one. In Chinese kitchens, they don't have a block of knives, with a different size and design for different jobs. Every job is done with this knife. Chopping. Slicing. Dicing. Paring. Smashing garlic. And even processing of live animals. Before you call PETA, just keep in mind that in Asian cultures, the food has to be as fresh as possible. For one, it taste better. And in the days before refrigeration, You keep everything alive up to the last possible minute. Nobody wants to eat spoiled, rotting meat. Would you eat day old sushi without refrigeration?
Being a vegetarian is a first world luxury. Eating meat is a third world luxury. Rejecting food, while others starve, is a pompous, arrogant action by overfed, privileged elitist. 30% of the world's population is vegetarian, most of them not by choice, and they're not too happy about it either.

Shun 14-by-14-Inch Bamboo Cutting Board
I had never heard of Bamboo Cutting Boards and was impressed by the pictures and advertisements posted on Amazon.com. In addition, in person the wood grain and various interlaying colors of this item are truly beautiful. However, I was very disappointed in the quality of the craftsmanship. Some of the various seams between the wooden pieces in the cutting board had large open gaps while others exposed wood glue that had leaked out and dried. It also appeared as though during manufacturing some gaps in the wood were filled with glue or sealant, creating an unsightly blemish on the item. Even more noticeable were 1/2-inch areas located in various spots around both sides of the cutting block that appeared to be rough or un-sanded/unfinished exposed wood. I do not recommend purchasing this item through the internet.simplehuman Flip-Top Dishrack with Bamboo Knife Block, Stainless Steel
The design is great, especially with the flip-up expandability. The dishes stand up perfectly in the rack, and we like the utensil holder. At first we didn't think too much of the knife-block cover, but it actually works very well to help the knives dry faster (and more safely). I would have given a five-star rating, except for the poor quality control. One of the hinges for the flip-up section was bent, hindering the movement of the shelf. A plastic cover had to be removed to bend it back into shape. The nice part of having to do this was that I got to test the quality of the welds. I've seen too many spot-welds break when adjacent pieces had to be bent, but the welds on this unit are very high quality. The other negative was that the wine glass hanger (which we don't use anyway) is unusable because poor alignment when the plastic holder was molded onto the stainless wire. Again, a very nice design, but manufacturing quality is pretty bad.Expensive at $80 but one usually gets what you pay for...the problem? Appears that the wire grids are thinly coated with plastic; once that flakes off (took about 45 days of use) then the metal is exposed and then its Rust City. Very surprised because we've owned several of this manufacturer's products over the years without problems. Their newer drainers have different wire covering material so perhaps the problem is now corrected assuming you get a newer model.Buy simplehuman Flip-Top Dishrack with Bamboo Knife Block, Stainless Steel Now
We've had this dishrack for a little under 2 years and while it is the right design and size for our needs, the build quality of the plastic and rubber hole seals just isn't up to par.The plastic area that holds the drain spout is now cracking and the rubber hole seals are now yellow and hard.
This is likely why they offer replacement drain boards for $20.
I definitely recommend spending your money elsewhere as this dish rack is not a good value when you consider cost and longevity of the product.

I got this recently, after moving to an apartment without a dishwasher. So far, I love it.A few people here have asked why there are 3 hinges. This is why:
There is a drain on two sides of the plastic base. You can use one on the long side of the rack, as shown in the picture, or on the short side of the rack (next to the cutlery/knife holder). The bottom of the plastic base has legs on three corners (the hinges). These come folded up into the base. There is no leg in the corner between the two drains.
The legs on the bottom of the draining base are meant to tilt the base (and rack) so that it drains more easily. It's designed for only two to be used at one time: if you're using the drain on the long side, you fold out the two legs on the opposite long side. If you're using the drain on the short side, you fold out the two legs on the opposite short side. Either way, the whole thing is slightly tilted so that the side with the drain is lower and water will flow down to the sink instead of gathering on the base. That's why there's no leg on the corner in between the two drains: it's not about raising the whole rack, it's about tilting it.
By the way, this is one of the things that sold me on this rack. The plastic base for my last rack had a slight built-in tilt, but not enough for the water to drain well. I agree with somebody's comment about directions, though. It's funny to think of a dish rack needing them, but a picture could easily clarify the purpose of the legs. We bought this at a store that specialized in these sorts of things, so an employee told us about its various features.

Although the most expensive dish rack I have purchased, well worth the price. Had I purchased this 2 years ago, overall I would have saved money as I have thrown away so many inferior racks (mold and rust after very little time). Plenty of space available. The flip up shelf is great. A huge plus is the knife block. The ability to change the direction has opened up counter space. Because of the orientation we only use 2 of the cup "prongs". The only con is that it doesn't always drain without a little manipulation, but I think it has more to do with my counter not being level than the construction and design of the dish rack.Highly recommended!!!
