NEW ROBOT COUPE 3/4 HP COMBINATION FOOD PROCESSOR R100 R101

I use this R100 at work and it is underpowered and lacks options. The work bowl is too small for bigger jobs. The grey bowls are inferior to clear bowls. I purchased a 14 cup (3.5 quart) Cuisinart at home and it works much better, stronger motor, includes more options, and has a much better bowl capcity by a full quart. The price difference is very substantial; even without consideration of price, the Cuisinart is far superior.

That being said, I use the RobotCoupe R2 and an R3 at other work places and they are very powerful and xuperior to the Cuisinart; but their cost is prohibitive unless you can business justify them. That being said, Robotcoupe has some great (and expensive) options for the R2 that MAY fit the R100, but it will still will be underpowered.

Don't waste your money on the R100.

I've been using it for over 2 years, did not buy any additional disks, it come with 3 and that's plenty good, but you can buy some really neat ones if you are into parties.

Make sure you choose a clear bowl as it fills up fast.

I grate mushrooms, zucchinis, apples, and many other veggies.

I was considering Kitchen Aid, but it looked flimsy, just as expensive and who needs 12 speeds and 12 discs?

I'm glad that R100 is being offered through Amazon.

You won't be sorry for buying it.

Neat looking and sharp but the description has errors.. It states here dishwasher safe and limited lifetime warranty, but on the back of the package it clearly states DO NOT use in a dishwasher instead "hand wash and towel dry after each use", plus "Limited 1 year warranty" I always hand wash and dry all my knives anyway so that isn't an issue for me, but others should know about this error this before making a purchase.. This is a huge fruit bowl or salad bowl for a church picnic. It is huge. I mean huge. Not for cereal or oats but for two huge boxes of fried chicken. For a Le Creuset-branded item, the price for this bowl was good. It's one of Le Creuset's non-French-made offerings (seems to be an increasing number of those), but I've found that Le Creuset appears to be holding their foreign manufacturers to good quality standards. Wusthof 10-Inch Sharpening Steel

This steel is just the right thing for honing blades right before using them (for more intensive sharpening use a stone). I only have a few objections:

I own two steels, one obtained two years ago that doesn't have the washer-shaped metal guard between the handle and the shaft, and one obtained four years ago that does. The one that does has collected a lot of scratches on the guard. I can't help but wonder if hitting that metal has also hurt my blades.

The wusthof logo is stamped onto the shaft, into the metal grooves, right where the tip of a blade passes. When honing a long blade I wind up holding the steel so that the blade doesn't hit the logo. (Those raised ridges can't possibly be good for the edge). But this means I only get to use half of the steel.

There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference.

However, when it comes to sharpening steels, I have found very little difference. As long as you buy a high end steel, you really won't go wrong. Therefore, I shop for this item on price, and Henckels has a price advantage. Unless you want a matching set, shop on price, and look to Henckels.

While there is no substitute for a knife sharpener, steeling your knives after every use (I do it when drying and putting away my knives), keeps the blades true and does allow you to go a little longer between sharpenings. If you're serious about cooking, you need a steel.

Dexter Russell Sani-Safe Orange Handle 5 1/2" Boning Hook

I wish I had purchased a set of meat hooks years ago. As a line cook I didn't often have to lug around large pieces of dead animal and so this isn't usually something you find in most restaurant kitchens, let alone homes. I do a lot more butchery now, and while I don't work in meatpacking or at a butchers' shop, I see these used at at the local slaughterhouse, and they appear to stand up to professional-level usage. It certainly makes moving half carcasses much easier and safer, especially if you don't have a rail. It has a highly grippable and comfortable handle and does an excellent job of keeping hands and fingers out of the way of a razor sharp knife. Very easy to clean and sanitize, does not collect fat or other junk in any crevices. I use these often at work, and if I did any kind of hunting or home butchery I'd have at least a couple of them lying around. They are extremely pointy and sharp -I keep half wine corks on the ends of mine, as they live in my kitchen toolbox and I find puncture wounds to be unpleasant.

If you're one of the relatively few people who needs to own meat hooks, these are ones you'll want to have.

My husband used this boning hook for our first home-butcher experience of our cow. It did exactly what it is supposed to do: hold large chunks of meat so that you can carry them with ease. We actually wished that we had a few more for the rest of us that were helping! Very durable, holds the meat easy, and is comfortable on the hands. It was able to hold quite large pieces with ease. Highly recommend!

Wusthof Classic Hollow Edge Chef's Knife

I bought a set of 3 Wusthof knives for my father for Christmas. My boyfriend started complaining about the lack of a good knife in our house, and my dad seemed really happy with the Wusthofs, so I thought this would be a good choice for his birthday.

I have 3 ceramic knives that I love, but they're more fragile then I expected, so he won't use them. This Wusthof knife is just awesome. Heavy duty, nicely weighted and feels great in the hand. Perfect balance. It's a universal kind of knife that will feel comfortable for just about anyone. I'm used to putting some pressure into cutting things, especially sweet potatoes, carrots, etc. With this, it just slices right through it, with no effort. A gorgeous cutting experience.

The only warning I'll give, this knife is SHARP. Be extremely careful, because I have no doubt it will chop thru your finger just as easily as it will slide thru a tomato! Otherwise, take care of it, and it will last a lifetime.

I volunteer at a no kill animal shelter and have sliced my hand open numerous times on the can openers we use to open the dog food. I have purchased numerous can openers, in hopes of finding a long lasting one that works. This is it! Every previous can opener has been made in china. We bought one can opener that lasted twenty years. Then about eight years ago we bought another can opener. And another. And another. And another. We bought cheap grocery store ones. We bought regular ones and french cut ones. We bought very expensive designer kitchen appliance store ones. We bought and bought and bought and they broke and broke and broke. Or at least stopped opening cans which is the same thing as far as we're concerned..

Then we bought EZ Duz it. It took us a few cans to remember how to line it up and make it turn easily (remember it had been eight YEARS since our last decent can opener.) No it does not do the french cut where you don't have an edge that will slice you. So far we've never been cut by an opened can lid so we're not worried about that.

We just wanted to buy a can opener that would still be cutting cans months (years! we're aiming for years!) later. This one does. Thank you John J. Steuby Company!!!

Update six months later the can opener is still working. (that beats the box store brand already.)

I bought my **very last** SwingAway probably about 18 months ago. It was okay for a few months, but then began to perform about as well as those 3 or 4 dollar can openers that you toss into the cart at the grocery store to get by with 'til you get to a department store and pick up a new SwingAway. Bought this for an apartment with limited space. While the directions are limited, it's pretty simple to install if you use the wall anchors or drill into a stud. It's a perfect size for about 5 kitchen knives with enough magnetism to hold them securely. Simply twist them toward the spine of the knife to release.

It looks good, works great, opens up drawer space and keeps my knives from getting banged up. Will get another one when I move again.

I think this is a great buy for the money, I looked around all over in stores in my area and was not satisfied with what I saw at all, all the magnetic knife holders were really plain or really ugly and I had also read that there was the potential problem of a magnetic being either too strong or weak. I bought the 15" MIU France Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Bar (in Dec 2007 MIU France Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Bar, 15-Inch) and feel certain it is the same model as this Norpro [ASIN:B00061N05U Norpro 15-Inch Stainless-Steel Magnetic Knife Bar]. Had second thoughts about where to install and finally found the right spot. Like Cookie (TX) in her 2006 review, I was initially stymied about how to install. As she says, there are no installation instructions inside, but the box (which has no brand name, just the words "Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Bar", Art No. S-3527, UPC 8_06700 03527_0), instructs on one panel "Pull out the plastic end cap", then how to position and screw in. It turns out that if you push the black plastic end from the back, it will pop out the front and expose the screw holes for mounting. To uninstall, the black end cap can be pried out by using a slot screw driver along the flat end. I installed into the side of a wood cabinet. The bar is well designed and made -the magnetic strength is fine, the stainless frame is sturdy and looks modern but simple enough to be inobtrusive and blend in with most kitchen styles.

Sanelli CNF259 Empty Knife Roll For 16 Pcs.

I needed something that would allow me to take multiple kitchen sized knives to outdoor barbeque competitions. I have a set of knives that include a 12" slicer and a 13" steel. I needed to be able to keep my knives clean and protected from the outdoors, and be compact when not in use as space is a premium at these events.

This roll is exactly as it looks. LOTS of room for even more than I carry, and a very rugged, tough exterior. Stitching seems to be tough, and the fabric is nice and thick. Fully loaded with knives, it rolls down to about 5 inches in diameter, and has both a handle and shoulder strap. The slots hold the knives firmly with enough of the handle sticking out that you can grab one without having to grasp the blade, and while they are snug and won't fall out, I found that you could pull a knife with two fingers.

If you need to bring a knife set with you for whatever reason, I've never seen a better way to carry them for the price, or even at 3 times the price. I have a few outdoor cooking friends that will be getting this knife roll as a present this year.

Ginsu Chikara Cutlery Series Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel 7-Inch Santoku Blade 7102

Those who have read my other reviews know I've been a Ginsu knife fan for decades. However, there have been ties I have tried normal "grownup" knives and though they were good and well thought out products from reputable and well thought of manufacturers I still grabbed for the Ginsus when it came time to make dinner. I guess I was not ready for a grownup knife.

Then I saw an online ad for the Chikara series and when I had a few spare bucks I bought the santoku from the full set with the bamboo cutting board. Let me get the board out of the way, it is very nice but considering it has grooves for carving, it is a tad small. On the other hand, it's very portable and safely houses the knife, making it good for picnics and such.

The knife, on the other hand, is fabulous. It's well balanced and feels very natural in my hand...which is saying something since I have carpel tunnel syndrome...and the blade is truly razor sharp. Went through a package of bacon (with the plastic on) like nothing. Onions fell into dice at the mere glance of the blade. And some how the Ginsu brand has made me comfortable in a way none of the others did.

I am still not sure if I'll buy the full set. I have PLENTY of knives, after all. However, if you are in the market for a set of handsome, functional, and well-priced knives I recommend the Chikara series. Also, think about these the next time you are shopping for wedding or graduation presents.

The knife is not the all time best knife ever designed or manufactured; but, it is a very good knife for the above average home cook. The cutting board on the other hand fell apart even though I only hand washed it and immediately dried it off. Specifically, the knife storage pocket separated from the cutting board. I reattached it using waterproof Gorilla Glue and it is somewhat doing the trick. The down side of this repair is that the cutting board does not lay completely flat any more. I should have used a clam press instead of a joining clamp to hold the two pieces together while the glue was setting up. Now I have a cutting board that sits off balance about 1/64 of an inch so it makes an annoying wobble during use. I have somewhat got past this by setting the cutting board on a rubberized foam mat that keeps it from wobbling. Overall I would still recommend it because the knife keeps a pretty good edge and it was very inexpensive. I have only had to use a stone three times since I bought it. Typically the name Ginsu conjures up images of "As Seen on TV" products and and cheap quality material. But based on Consumers Reports and on Amazon reviews I thought I would give it a try. My wife says it works great for chopping and has a very sharp edge. I haven't had it long enough to know how well it will hold the edge but for now it is a quality kitchen knife at a very affordable price. As for the cutting board, I agree with one of the other reviews in that putting the sticky label on the top wasn't very smart as the glue doesn't come off very easily. Also, there is a crack along the seam where the blade fits into the board and I suspect in time it will separate from the cutting portion of the board all together. But since I bought the knife for the blade quality, I'm not too upset with the quality of the board.
