Wiltshire Eclipse 6-Inch Santoku Knife

Wiltshire Eclipse 6-Inch Santoku KnifeI have been using the Wiltshire Eclipse Santoku knife for about 3 years now as my #1 kitchen knife. I have bought similar versions of santoku designs as well as other knife styles and I faithfully come back to this one. This knife is a great size, design & balance. Three things this knife has to its credit are: 1.Unmatched versatility from parsley to pumpkin 2. Perfectly weighted. 3. Awesome handle design is very comfortable which allows hours of prep without fatigue. The fact that this knife has a retail value of only $15.99 at Kmart is anyones guess. All-round great knife.

Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife Set

Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife SetI cringed at the price for months, until I just gave in and ordered them figuring I'd probably return them. Yeah, that's a LOT of money for a damned steak knife... for four of them, really. Could they really be that nice?

First I'll give my deduction of 1 star. The "hand hammered" finish is in fact a machine hammered finish. All four steak knives have identical hammer marks... all of the blades share the same hammer marks on each side. If these were hand hammered, there would be some variation in the hammer marks, there really is none. That being said...

Shun Premier knifes are just amazing. These steak knives are no exception. The handles are light and the blade is wide and thin with the razor sharp edge pushing from the handle at a relatively aggressive cutting angle. They are delicate and precise. The perfect knife for that thick steak that can handle a 2" cut of prime rib roast without trying.

These knives are pretty large. They make all of the other steak knives I've used seem anemic even though most of them had more weight to them. They also look like they should weigh more, but that's mostly due to how thin and tall these blades are. And, while I think I'd like a little more weight in them, they handle so comfortably and precisely.

I've never really owned a really nice steak knife before, but I've used quite a few fancy sets at friend's houses. These knives fit my steak slicing habits perfectly. I honestly can't find fault with these. They're gorgeous, they're very finely crafted, the blade to handle geometry and ergonomics are excellent. They rest gently in the hand cutting a 1.5" ribeye just how I want it to cut.

The downside is really the case. I would have liked a nice, high quality case for these knives, you just get a rather sturdy cardboard box with the knives in foam. It's really nice for a cardboard box, but it certainly isn't the wooden case that comes with the Shun Elite Steak Knife Set.

Each one of these knives is of the same forged quality as any of their other knives. That's what really sets them apart from other companies set's steak knives. Yeah, they're terribly expensive, but I think they're worth it.

Stanton Trading 12 by 18 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, Red

Stanton Trading 12 by 18 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, RedI bought similar cutting boards several years ago and, while they're not the best in the world, they're serviceable. It was time to replace them, so I ordered six more. Unfortunately, the entire set of cutting boards have warped within 2 months of purchase. Now they spin when I cut something on them, which isn't safe.

I won't purchase these again and would strongly recommend that you don't buy them, either.

This is a great cutting board with a good thickness that I am sure will help to maintain the integrity of my knife blades. I ended up getting this one and the green one here: Stanton Trading 12 by 18 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, Green. I will use the red one for meats and the green one for veggies. I do a lot of cooking and have gone through many cutting boards in my time working as a professional cook for over 15 years, so I know a good quality board when I see one. I love the simplicity, with no useless handle cutout, raised sides or bumper edges, all which just get in the way of cutting and sliding food off a board. The medium size of the 12 by 18 works well for just about any task you will encounter in the kitchen and fits nicely on most any size counter top. Also this is the perfect size for picking up and transferring food from board to pot. It has just enough grip on its surface to not slide around, even when wet, yet is slick enough to easily slide food off of. This board is absolutely perfect for any home or professional restaurant; I would not change a thing. In fact, I plan on buying many more of these, just to make sure I can stock up on them in case they ever run out or discontinue these models, because it really is hard to find such an all around performer in a cutting board that will truly fit my high standards of kitchen ware.

Buy Stanton Trading 12 by 18 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, Red Now

I bought 3 different cutting boards, by different manufacturers and this one spins like a top. It spins because they it is not completely flat. To keep it from spinning I put a folded kitchen towel under the center of the board.

It should sit flat and there is no reason for it not to since it is a molded product, this is a sign of inferior production. I won't buying from this company again.

I absolutely love this cutting board! I've only had it for a couple weeks, but so far it has been great. It is heavy, but I like that because it doesn't move on the counter while I'm chopping on it. It just fits into the dishwasher, which is great. I didn't realize when I bought it that the surface is textured, but that is not a problem at all. On the contrary, it makes food slide off of it easily when I want to transfer the food to my pan etc. It feels very durable and I have high hopes that it will last me a long time!

This cutting board is worth buying. It is sturdy and doesn't show cut marks as easily some others I have used.

J A Henckels Professional "S" Hollow Santoku Knife 7"

J A Henckels Professional 'S' Hollow Santoku Knife 7'My fiance insisted that we buy this knife after watching Giada DeLaurentis use it on her show. "Are you kidding me? We don't need a $100 knife." Now, I don't know how I could survive without it. It makes cooking so much easier and so much more fun. I had an average set of knives that I got for Christmas when I first started living on my own. I only use this knife now. I can't wait until we get married so we can request an entire set of nice knives. If you can spring for it, you should get this knife. Make sure you get the professional grade, and make sure it's hollow. It helps to keep food from sticking to the blade, and it makes the blade stronger (at least that's what my fiance insists). I'm not a chef, and I don't know anything about knives, except that I couldn't cook without this knife.

I have about seven Henckels Pro S knives, which I bought ala carte, and this was the last one I purchased. Initially I bought it for a rather silly reason. I saw a lot of people using Santokus on television. Then one day I was in my local restaurant supply store, had some extra money in my pocket, and they had this knife on sale. So I bought it. I took it home, tried it out, washed it, put it in my knife block, and there it sat. Though I had tested it a bit at the store, I discovered I didn't really like the heft or balance of it, compared to my Pro S chef's. I was used to a bolster and a much heavier blade.

But, I eventually started using it. At first I discovered with the Granton edge, (what they call "hollow," here) it was great for slicing cheese. Cheese usually stuck to the side of my chef's knife, necessitating my peeling it away. With this knife, at least as often as not it just fell to the cutting board, and when not it was much easier to dislodge. Then I started using it to cut up veggies. Pretty soon I found that my Santoku had replaced my chef's as my automatic go-to knife. I use it all the time now, and am quite happy I bought it.

I still love my chef's for certain things, but for fast, light work I don't know how I ever got by without my Santoku.

And for those of you who wonder about the quality of this particular Santoku, I have had no problems keeping it quite sharp by touching it up on the steel regularly. I can't use one of those clear flexible cutting sheets; my knives cut them to ribbons.

And regarding the handle shape, these traditional handles feel good in my hands. However, it is all in what you get used to, as long as the blades are of good quality, as evidenced by my initial dislike and my later love of this knife.

I bought this knife as a gift for a wedding shower. I own one myself, and I love it. It works so well that I buy it for all kinds of gifts. Shower, wedding, or anniversary. It took me a long time to buy myself quality knives so to me giving a good knife that should last them for years is a gift I wish someone had given me. I am an avid cook and think anyone who needs a knife should definitely consider this one.

Overall, I like this knife alot. The one thing I don't like is how the slices stick to the blade. I thought that santokus were supposed to eleviate this problem which is why they have the indentations on the sides. Also, I own another Henkels knife from the Twin Cuisine line and I definitely prefer the Twin Cuisine handles to the Professional S handles

For years, I used a chef's knife for all of my chopping and slicing needs in the kitchen. Mostly I cut vegetables and fruits. The Henckels knife is perfect for that. I'd say it's twice as easy as my old knife. The blade is very sharp, and the knife very well made. On the expensive side, but it should last a lifetime.

Napa Style Forged Cutlery Set Knife Set 3PC

Napa Style Forged Cutlery Set Knife Set 3PCVery good knives and they sharpened up well. I wasn't quite impressed with these as I was the Santoku Knives that I got at Costco. They came dull and I had to work the blades to get them sharp. I prefer Victorinox and Cutco knives.

This was not the set that I expected from the picture but there was no return address so I still have the knives. If I had the address to return them, I would. I wanted the set that has indentions (not serrations) near the edge that allows the food being chopped to slip off more easily. I have not opened the box with the knives. I did try to return them to a Napastyle store in Los Gatos, California but they were not in their computer so they would not accept them. Thank you. Glenna Hunter, snowpeak@earthlink.net.

Theee knives stay with me and have never let me down. They are very sharp and stay that way for a long time, they are well-balanced and comfortable to use, and the three sizes take care of all my cutting needs. The accompanying sheaths make it possible to pack them when we travel without worrying about being cut or dulling the knves. Who would guess how valuable tese knives would be at such a reasonable price?

Perfect Fries One Step French Fry Cutter

Perfect Fries One Step French Fry CutterIf you do not possess the strength of at least 10 professional bodybuilders, then I do not recommend this product. The effort I wasted trying to cut a potato could have been utilized more efficiently by just cutting some slightly lopsided fries with an actual knife. I had to soften the potato in the microwave for about 2 minutes before I could cut it with the Perfect Fries, resulting in slightly mushy potato chunks after baking them in the oven. Seriously, just don't buy this.

There is a line in the instruction which claims the amount of force needed depends on the size and hardness of the potato. For most people a quick and easy swipe would be small potatoes, pre-soaked. I used medium sized un-soaked potatoes and pounded the top several times with my hand to get some really nice looking fry cuts. It beats going to the gym. The instructions say to cut off the rounded part of the potato for a flat bottom, you might try a flat top also. Flat top, flat bottom pre-soaked (or rotting) small potato, works great.

Made in China where steel, lead, and plastic come together for fine products to ship to America. I bought mine for $9.98 on impulse in Walmart located in the "As Seen on TV" section for suckers. Mine is currently sitting on my porch with a potato jammed in it waiting to rot so I can use it again.

Recipes inside!

UPDATE: As it turns out the potato wasn't jammed, the device was slightly cocked. It was jammed together. It is now in the landfill.

This product is extremely difficult to use...it takes body builder strength to get the potato through the machine. I had to put all my weight on it and lean into it to use it. Although, once it got through the machine, perfect french fries came out!

I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about--my son and I just prepared a huge bowl of fries to soak. We used large russet potatoes straight out of the bag--took just a few minutes, him rinsing, me slicing. We did no other prep, except to slice out a few eyes.

I'm 50--and no bodybuilder. But not once did a potato not get cut with one push. I did have to press down hard with two hands as the instructions say. But a quick whoosh, and I had a nice handful of fries.

The only glitch we had was on the 3rd to the last potato--a thin slice of potato got caught between the two pieces of the cutter, and made them very difficult to separate--it wedged them together--so we'll need to be careful about that in the future.

But for a cheap slicer, it worked like it said it should. I was actually very impressed.

Cheapness and that one glitch are the only things that keep it from 5 stars.

Rada Cutlery Paring Knives Galore 3 Piece Boxed Gift Set, Made in USA

Rada Cutlery Paring Knives Galore 3 Piece Boxed Gift Set, Made in USA, Aluminum HandlesI just purchased this exact set not from Amazon but from a small Mennonite store. I've been looking for some good and I mean GOOD knives, and researching the Net and a number of chef magazines.

As I pulled up to the little Mennonite store I noticed a sign stating they carried Rada Cutlery. I'd never even heard of it but I decided to check inside. Although the prices were slightly higher than Amazon offers I still thought they were low enough that the knives could not be of a high quality. One elderly Mennonite woman told me she owned the middle knife and that she loved it used it to butcher her chickens. That was a little icky, but I figured if it was good enough for that, I might as well try the set the price was right.

I am thrilled with the knives. I had to be careful with the parer it slipped through the potato skin so easily I was taking off more of the potato than I wanted. And the middle-sized knife slipped through bacon I was slicing (in a large chunk) as easily as butter.

Now I'm going to order more Rada knives to supplement my little set.

I can't speak highly enough of these knives.

I had a Cutco salesman come by the house and try to sell me some knives. I declined although I was interested in purchasing some knives. I went to amazon and saw exactly what I was looking for at my price range. The Cutco paring knife was over $50.00 for one knife. I got all three of these knives for half that price, they are made in the USA and very sharp. Very happy with the Rada product.

I bought these knives as a Christmas gift because my Mom bought me some and I love them. They are so sharp and cut so smooth. They will eventually need to be sharpened, but wait as long as possible, because they won't be as sharp as they were from the factory. But they are still great knives. They will last longer if they are HAND WASHED and stored in a sleeve or a box where they won't come in contact with anything. I do actually have these pieces and would recommend them.

I've been looking for these knives for many, many years. I have had some Rada paring knives for over 20 years and liked them better than any knives I had. Through years of use and hundreds of sharpenings and after accidentally losing some of them at different places, I'd needed to replace them, but the brand name was not on the blades. Rada Cutlery, sharpened with the Rada sharpeners, are the sharpest knives I've ever used with routine sharpening. Their blades hold their edge and they slice easily and thinly every time. We're going to order more and replace the other knives we have and which we're always trying to sharpen and hone to a Rada edge. Although the handles of the larger knives are too small to provide me the feel I prefer in my hands (I have large hands), the size fits my wife's hands easily and she loves the feel. The prices are affordable and the quality good. We're sending them to our grown children. They remember them from their childhoods and how easy they were to use. More products need to follow the Rada model..... very affordable prices + high quality = many repeat sales.

Umbra Hold Up Knife Storage Block

Umbra Hold Up Knife Storage BlockI bought this to hold my Pure Komachi colored knives, and I'm very happy with it.

It's not perfect definitely mind the dimensions to make sure you have a place to put or hang it and that your knives will fit. It's taller than I was expecting, but narrow enough that it fits pretty much anywhere on my kitchen counter unobtrusively. It also comes with hardware and instructions for wall-mounting which is great and I would certainly consider mounting it because of how low-profile it is.

While the shadows in the product picture makes it look like it's a silver metal, you'll read in the description that it's white plastic. The plastic is thick, rigid, and very sturdy, and fits my 8 brightly colored knives of various sizes well. I'm not able to get them to hang in a uniform way (like the three example knives do in one product picture) but it's not really a big deal.

However if you're getting this for display rather than functionality, there might be better options, but this is certainly worth the price!

This knife block tipped over after placing one knife in it. When it fell over, it smashed an expensive espresso cup, shattering the glass all over my counter and the floor. However one is supposed to place knives in it is beyond counter-intuitive. Umbra usually sells well-designed products. This is not.

I have to agree with the other reviewers, the item was made of lightweight cheap plastic. I was worried that it would not stand up against the weight of the knives. So far it has done well however I have not loaded it to capacity. It does look nice though.

I love to cook and the cats love to watch me cook. I needed something that would allow me to grab a knife quickly. I was reluctant to get magnetic strips because of the cats. (They are cute, but not bright and I was certain they would view the knives on the magnetic strip as something to try to jump up to slap down.) This product is a bit bulkier than I would have liked. It also did not hold a smaller paring knife like I wanted. But it serves the job I wanted and is pretty low-key in not commanding attention in my kitchen.

Alaskan Ulu Knife w/Etched Handle Outlining State, Flag & Map of Alaska

Alaskan Ulu Knife w/Etched Handle Outlining State, Flag & Map of AlaskaGreat for making chopped salads! You wouldn't believe the compliments I get on my tuna and egg salads; and I would swear it was in-part due to the Ulu Knife. I like to chop/cut my solids (tuna, onion, celery, etc.) separately; and then when I have combined them I cut-through them once again w/the Ulu Knife. I really think it melds the flavors and makes the texture turn-out perfectly. Many people have asked me if I purchased my salads at upscale delis the secret is IN my Ulu! I've given this as a gift too; it was really appreciated.

The Pampered Chef Pastry Blender

The Pampered Chef Pastry BlenderI like this pastry blender because it is all stainless steel. It doesn't absorb and is easily washed.

It doesn't have a comfort grip handle but that's okay with me because I don't use it so long that I'd need that.

I'm very happy with my purchase.

I highly recommend this product.

While I've been happy with other Pampered Chef products, there are better pastry blenders out there.

The problem with this one is the tine blades bend, so it's hard to cut butter mixtures into fine pieces.

The stainless steel is nice, there have been no problems with rusting, although the handle isn't particularly comfortable to use (and I have small hands).

Long ago I owned another garage-sale pastry blender that didn't have this problem. Unfortunately, the red paint on the old wooden handle flaked off so I got rid of it. Wish I would have sanded down the handle and kept it now!

Pampered Chef needs to work on this design. Their products aren't inexpensive so it makes me think twice about buying other products from the company, especially since it seems it would be a hassle to try to return anything. That's unfortunate, because I'm sure the people who count on income from Pampered Chef are having a hard enough time booking parties in the current economy.

I am on my second pastry blender, the first one broke within one month of purchase. Yes it is guaranteed but when you have to send it back to the company at your expense which costs almost the price of the article to start with this defeats the purpose of the guarantee. Yes they sent me another and it is also broke. I don't think I will return it as there are a lot better pastry blenders out there. I will say that I thought it did a decent job when it wasn't broke. The one I buy at garage sales for 25 cents do just as good a job and will last 5 to 10 years. I will not be purchasing anything else from Pampered Chef as I see there guarantee as useless, if the price of the article was reasonable to start with then that would make a difference.

I was excited to find this item second-hand, because I was starting to make my own pies, and wanted an easier way (than a fork) to blend butter and flour together. Anyone that makes pie crust knows that all the recipes call for using cold (very cold) butter. This pastry blender will not cut through cold butter without bending. Also, the round handle rolls when you press on it, making it hard to push straight down. Pampered Chef must have known about this, as they added a little tab to keep the handle from rolling, but the slot pushes away from the tab when the metal bends (when cutting cold butter). Even when the handle stays in place, it is ROUND METAL, so of course it will easily slide in your hand, especially if you have butter on them! Overall, this is a very poorly designed product!

I thought I had found such a deal, but this is no deal if it is this frustrating to use. Back to using my fork and my fingers, until I can get the other one on order (my next one will be the highly-rated Oxo Good Grips Dough Blender with Blades).

Also, unlike other reviewers, I have never been impressed with Pampered Chef's quality. My knives rust and have jagged edges (poor quality steel, I imagine), and the finish is coming off my garlic press INTO my pressed garlic (and I paid full price for those items). None of this stuff seems worth the money. OXO on the other hand has never disappointed yet.

Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 3-Inch Paring/Boning Knife

Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 3-Inch Paring/Boning KnifeI have been using this paring knife for over 50 years. My mom and dad had one, and I now have one. Chicago cutlery is the best value in knives. This paring knife is perfectly balanced and just the right shape and length. I would never use any other paring knife. I bought a high end paring knife, and it broke with in a year. Could have bought 10 of these for the same price.

My wife really likes her twenty year old Chicago Cutlery Walnut set of knives, so when her paring knife finally made its last cut I found this knife as the closest looking alternative to what she had. Well, it is Chicago Cutlery, so sharp is what you get!! I love the traditional edges on these and have never been a fan of serrated edges except for my steak knives. Due to the natural wood, you need to keep the handles oiled or they will dry out. They hold an edge very well, but keep your rattail handy for when it burrs down. Overall, very happy with this product.

I bought this to complement a comparable 25 year old Chicago Cutlery paring knife we have used daily for this time. There is no comparison. The new one has a wispy blade that bent immediately when I tried to pry apart some frozen goods. The old one did this hundreds of times without any problems. Clearly a "program for profit" at CC led to cheaper steel. Doesn't say so on the product, but probably Chinese manufacture. In a cutting device, this is not the way to go. Very disappointed.

Chefs Choice Model 1520 Angle Select Sharpener - Brushed Metal

Chef's Choice 1520 Angle Select Diamond Hone Sharpener, Brushed MetalThe sharpener arrived four days early so I commend Amazon on their speed of shipping. After opening the box it came in, I read the manual from front to back just to make sure I understood everything about this sharpener. I was still fairly unfamiliar how to hold the knife in the sharpener. So I started out with a large but cheap kitchen knife that was not serrated and I put it in the 15 degree slot. I thought 15 degrees should make this knife good and sharp, so away I went. On the first pass the knife didn't easily slide into either the left or the right slot. Ends up the alignment slots are a bit tricky to insert thick-bladed knives into and I noticed there are plastic tabs that are supposed to help hold the knife in place to keep the proper angle. So I removed a star from my review. I just couldn't figure out what was happening so I went online to youtube. There is a video that teaches how to sharpen knives with this model sharpener. So after the first pass through with both sides I inspected the knife and found (what I thought to be) was the sharpener took too much off the edge. I felt the blade, for sharpness; and it just wasn't that sharp. So I ran the knife through another seven times. Now it was getting quite sharp, but there were quite a bit of tiny shavings on the table where I was working. Next time I just put paper towel under the sharpener and it caught all the spare shavings. I ran the knife through the strop/polisher five times on each side, just like the book states. Make double sure you alternate from side to side on the sharpener because the manual says so. Also I noticed the reviews on the earlier model sharpeners noting the sharpener made scratches on the blades. It did not make any scratches on the blades and I frankly don't see how it could because everything in the sharpener except for the grinding wheel is plastic. Next I offered to sharpen my dads pocket knife. I again chose 15 degrees to try to keep the pocket knife looking good and making it quite sharp. Boy, was I wrong to do that. I looked at it and thought crap! That stupid sharpener took seriously way too much off the blade. Turns out that 15 degrees is quite thin and pocket knives (in my mind) should only be sharpened between 20 degrees to 23 degrees. In the end it does do quite a nice job on pocket knives as well as bigger kitchen knives. Next I tried a trickier knife. I switched to a one sided short but fat half-serrated pocket knife. The job I did was fair until I slid the knife in without watching what angle it was. I guess the plastic guide is easier to use with longer knives. I pretty much ruined that knife! The sharpener took way too much off the knifes edge. Oh well, it was only 5 dollars anyway. Just be careful with short knives because they're harder to keep straight while sliding them through the sharpening wheels. One last note about the sharpener. It doesn't sharpen all the way to the hilt on pocket knives. I'm not talking about the notch at the beginning of the blade, it's farther out than that. There's about an eighth of an inch past that on the blade that the grinding wheels just can't get to because of the plastic alignment guides. Pocket knives just won't go up into the sharpener far enough. On kitchen knives the handle is on top of the blade thus the blade slides all the way through. So I removed another star from my review. Yeah it sucks, but kitchen style knives end up quite nice. That's why I gave it three stars.

Product was everything it said it was.

Diverse with all types of knives.

Would recommend it to anyone who cares about their cutlery.

I love a sharp knife but didn't take my knives in to be sharpened as often as they needed. This makes it much more convenient to keep your knives sharp and in optimum condition.

The 1520 is the best and most flexible Chef's Choice Electric Sharpener for most users. The 120 and 130 are highly rated by many reviewers and have been available for a few years. Both of these sharpeners are for 20 degree knives only. The 1520 is unique in that it has fine diamond grinding slots for both 15 and 20 degree angles as well as a stropping/finishing slot used for either angle. It also has newly designed and improved guides that have less tendency to scratch knives and are very easy to use.

Most Asian knives are ground at a 15 degree angle whereas most European and American knives are ground at 20 degrees. This sharpener will do both, including Asian knives that have the 15 degree angle on only one side.

I find it very useful to grind 20 degree knives to 15 degrees to narrow the cutting edge and then give a couple of pulls thru the 20 degree slot to create a 20 degree micro bevel. I then finish with the stropping stage. This method is described in the User's Guide but is unfamiliar to most people. i would suggest that you try it first on a small paring knife. I think you will be extremely pleased with the result. One major advantage of this technique is that the cutting edge doesn't widen much after repeated sharpening. Touchup will normally only require using the third slot. Only when absolutely necessary make a pull thru the second stage once or twice before using the third stage.

The additional flexibility of both 15 and 20 degree diamond slots and improved guides makes this sharpener a superior choice to either the 120 or 130. The Chef's Choice 1520 electric sharpener is very highly recommended.

Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery 6-1/2-Inch Sandwich Knife

Calphalon Contemporary Cutlery 6-1/2-Inch Sandwich KnifeThis knife is amazing!!! it replaces a bread knife, a paring knife, and a Chef's knife... because it can do everything!!! I work at Bed Bath and Beyond and we don't carry this knife at the moment but i have been doing my very best to make sure we do, a Calphalon rep. gave me one of these knifes to try out, and i haven't been able to put it down since... On a regular basis i refer people to Calphalon's Website to check this thing out, for anyone who is fed up with trying to sharpen your serrated bread knife look no further, as it has no serrated edge but still cuts through bread, and even if you were to allow it to get dull, due to the wavy pattern of the blade it still slices through tomato(even squishy tomatoes) with ease. I really can't say enough... best design of a knife i've seen, hands down... who knew a sandwich knife was the missing tool of my kitchen... also well weighted, and solid in the hand as with most other large Calphalon Contemporary knifes... To whoever takes the plunge and buys this unique knife, you will be happily surprised... and did i mention it also cuts through sandwiches really well( as to be expected i guess).... i'll say it one last time, because it really is that good, amazing Knife!!!

Yes, it is a stupid review title, but I honestly was at a loss so forgive my lack of creativity. This is a great knife. It is well made and solid, and definitely has a use. It is not, however, the all-purpose instrument that others have indicated. It is very sharp, and unlike most serrated knives you could re-hone the edge of this because the edge is wavy with large scallops. However, this is a blade designed to chew through bread crusts and maybe some onion. Soft sliced white bread and too-juicy tomato will tear or crush, and toppings will be pulled out from between slices of bread, no matter how careful you happen to be.

It is a great bagel knife, and a good choice if you like bakery breads with firm crusts. Knives are one of those kitchen tools I think should be pretty multidimensional and have multiple applications. This is not that kind of tool, and pretty single-purposed. It also fails at doing a major part of what it was supposed to do well. Great bread knife, bad sandwich knife (better review name!) It is nice enough that I am not sorry I bought it, but wouldn't buy it again.

[If the star system allowed, I'd give a 4 for quality/workmanship and a 2 for design/application. Man am I picky today.]

Update: June 2013. It rusts terribly. If you put it in the dish drainer to air dry it will rust.

I've made a number of purchases in my quest for the ultimate sandwich knife, and this is the best. My last purchase was a zylis sandwich knife and it couldn't slice straight. This knife on the other hand, is a fantastic slicer not just for a sandwich knife, but compared to all knives. The tip profile works perfect for getting at the bottom of the mayo jar without scraping up the plastic, and it spreads very well. Works great as a bread knife too. No, it doesn't look like it'll be easy to sharpen if the time ever comes, but it performs excellent. Go ahead and buy it, you won't be disappointed with this one.

This knife is AMAZING. We literally use it for everything. I don't even know why I own any other knives because I ONLY use this one. It cuts through bread, potatoes, fuji apples, watermelon, cheddar cheese, red and white onions, chicken, EVERYTHING ( occasionally fingers) that's user default of course. BUY THIS KNIFE! Six months strong and counting...

Dansk Variation V 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

Dansk Variation V 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1I've had Dansk Variation V for 35 years, including pieces manufactured in Denmark, Finland, Japan, Korea, and China. There are slight but real differences in the shapes of each utensil type (spoon, fork, etc) from country to country of manufacture. These latest sets are made in China; the polish is higher, and the molds are clearly different. If you have acquired this pattern in recent years you may not notice; if you have originals, you will. It's a bit too soon to tell how well these pieces will "age" (stand up to the dishwasher, etc). Otherwise, they blend in with the older pieces except when lined up with like items (ie, spoons, forks, etc). For the price, these are a great value.

I ordered some individual pieces recently to add to my set which I have had since 1970. Actually, I only needed the teaspoons. Well, I returned the teaspoons and kept the rest. The forks are a different shape and the knives had spots after one washing but I decided to keep them anyway. The stainless is not up to the original standards of manufacturer. My biggest disappointment was the size of the teaspoons. They were much smaller. And the teaspoon is already on the smallish side. They are manufactured in China and I was truly not satisfied.

You will love this pattern. It has been around for years! I got this pattern about 30 years ago and I am still using it! I use it for everyday, but it's elegant for company. The teaspoons are nicely curved, no sharp edges. Once you use this pattern, you will never switch. Thanks for Dansk for making this timeless, wonderful pattern.

This product looked very nice but was manufactured in China and my original set was from Finland and there are definite differences in size and a bit of a difference in design. So, be very sure to look at where your product was made before ordering.

All that said, the Amazon team was very helpful to me in getting the products sent back for a full refund! My first time using Amazon and I'm impressed. Thx!

Upon close observation and after a week of casual use, I am very disappointed with the current production of Dansk Variation V silverware. For one, the Chinese-made versions no longer match the style of the previous 40+ years of production for this model. It is similar, but too different to add to an existing set of older, superbly-crafted Variation V silverware. As for quality/finish, the inside edges of the fork blades are not polished and food particles cling to those roughly-milled inside edges. It's too bad that company's worldwide throw away their quality standards in pursuit of cheap, Chinese labor. I think I'm being generous to give this product 2 stars.

J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 7-Inch Santoku Hollow Edge

J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 7-Inch Santoku Hollow EdgeWhen my wife and I are cooking (yes, we do cook together), she made me do most of the chopping (the justification was that "You are so good at it Honey"). I have been using a Chinese kitchen knife for most cutting, I like the wide flat blade that I can pick up little pieces when finish chopping but the knife gets a little heavy after a while. I saw this Santoku Japanese style knife in Target Store, the packaging had the handle sticking out. When I put my hand on it, I like the weight and balance of the blade and the handle seemed comfortable but it cost $37.95, more than what I want to pay for a kitchen knife. Then I found this exact knife on Amazon for $17.98, I ordered it immediately.

The knife arrived in five days in a huge Amazon box, 14x20 inches,(come on Amazon guys!). When I first used it, it was not as sharp as I would like it, after I pulled it through my wheel knife sharpener ten times, it was as sharp as any knifes in my collection. I love this knife, it is all about weight and balance and the angle of the handle. I have small Asian hands and it works well for me. I treat all my knifes with respect, never wash knifes in auto dish washer, I sharpen my knifes after every use. My wife is happy.

This knife arrived just as decribed and works really good. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great addition to their kitchen.

Got this knife from my brother in-law for birth day gift and it is a very nice addition to my cutlery collation vary sharp and keeps an edge for a long time. Even know the knife is made in china it has the high standards that you would aspect from the Henckels line up and if it was manufactured anywhere else it would cost allot more. It is not dishwasher friendly and needs to be hand washed

We have a half dozen Henckels knives and have been very happy UNTIL NOW. This knife is clearly of an inferior line in that the steel had inclusions in it which rusted the first time I washed it. Yes, there were rust spots on the the stainless steel blade. Poor quality control for this made in China version from the classic German knife company. Surprisingly customer support was disappointing as well. Avoid this line of knives.

11 Slot Bamboo Block

11 Slot Bamboo BlockI have two Shun Kaji knives and plan to buy more so felt I should get a knife block made especially for them. The 11 Slot Bamboo Block looked nice so I ordered it.

I was not expecting the Block to be so large. It is, very, and also quite heavy. This is not what you would put in a small kitchen like I have. It is, however, very well made, and I am using it because my knives need a home (they are way too sharp to be in a drawer).

I would recommend this if you have a large collection of Shun knives and a nice large area to display it on.
