Epicurean Camp Series Recycled Cardboard Cutting Board, Nutmeg

Epicurean Camp Series 9 by 7-Inch Recycled Cardboard Handy Board, NutmegWe are getting rid of our plastic cutting boards over concerns about bacteria. I really like this very hard, recycled cardboard and that it has the qualities of wood but can be put in the dishwasher. However, it needs to be thicker and more sturdy because it warped just enough after one wash in the dishwasher that it spins like a top on the counter. Which isn't safe when handling a knife. And really for the high prices of these cutting boards I expected something more substantial.

This is my second Epicurean cutting board. My first was a larger size, a gift from my son, for my home kitchen. I loved it, so I purchased this smaller size which was perfect for my small camper kitchen counter. They are lightweight, smooth, easy to work on, dry quickly when washed, and can easily go through the dishwasher. They do come up with knife gouges, which is why I rated it with 4stars, but they don't effect the use in any way. The fact that they can be run through the dishwasher takes care of any problems with bacteria but I believe the boards are anti-bacterial. I'm looking forward to my next board purchase, another small one, but this time for small jobs at home.

I bought my first cutting board from Epicurean on Food Network, when I went back to buy another one they no longer carried it. I'm happy that I could get it thru Amazon.

I've had the heavy plastic type boards with the bumps on the bottom to keep from moving, they warp and then they move all over the place.

I have never had these boards move when I'm cutting raw veggies, fruit or raw or cooked meats.

I love the fact they can go in the dishwasher and they never warp.

These boards are worth the price. I do a lot of cooking and I really like them.

Farberware Pro Forged 5-Inch Chef's Knife, black handle

Farberware Pro Forged 5-Inch Chef's Knife, black handleI'm actually quite amazed at the quality of these "Pro Forged" knives from Farberware. I found the 8" version of the Chef knife on closeout in a discount store for $5, and got it just to have a beater knife to toss in the camping gear kitchen set. Now, I've got to admit that I'm something of a knife snob. My kitchen has a ridiculous number of knives including numerous examples from some of the finest German and Japanese manufacturers. I needed another chef knife like I need more clutter. But, this Chinese made cheap chef's knife sharpened up very well and seems to be made of a much higher quality steel than I've ever seen in a knife this cheap. The handle is big and squarish and it fits my large hands better than many of the pricier name-brand chef's knives in my collection. I'm very impressed.

This Farberware 5" chef's knife is just the right size and weight for general use in my kitchen. It retains it's sharp edge well and is easy to sharpen when it gets dull. It doesn't have the heft that a discontinued Farberware 5" chef's knife has, but is still one of a very few knives I reach for on a regular basis. The 5" length is long enough for most chopping jobs and not cumbersome like an 8" blade is. I'll probably buy another one as a gift!

I used five star Henckels for twenty years until my recent divorce. This is no Henckel, but it's sweet knife for the price. The balance isn't perfect, but it's pretty close. This is almost a real chef's knife for almost nothing. Not bad at all. An insane value for the price.

Farberware makes an outstanding "pro forged 6 inch chef's knife" with a sturdy black handle that's truly easy to hold onto; you never feel that you're going to accidentally let this knife slip out of your control. It just plain feels like it is well made and I hear from my friends that Farberware knives last practically forever.

This knife does indeed have a strong, full tang. It is quite sharp (be careful when handling this) and unlike another of the reviewers here I found it to be sharp enough for my uses on the very first try. Of course you can sharpen it if you want to make it even sharper; that's up to you. This knife makes it child's play to cut meat, skin off chicken (dietary restriction for me) and even small particles of fat within the meat of a steak or a piece of chicken so that you only get the meat--awesome!

I don't see why you couldn't wash this knife in a dishwasher; it certainly seems to be in every way dishwasher safe.

Overall, this is one low-maintenance extra sharp kitchen knife from Farberware and I highly recommend it. If you can, buy the knife on this website as the price I paid in a local store was three dollars more than the current advertised price!

Great job as usual, Farberware!

Fox Run Oyster Knife

Fox Run Oyster KnifeI used this item for several months without any major problems. The length of the blade occationaly caused difficulty in cutting the top sphinter muscle, but otherwise was adequate for the task. I recently obtained some oysters which were significantly larger than those previously purchased. Unfortunately, in trying to open the larger oysters, the blade snapped off. It was necessary for me to revert back to the old tool commonaly used by casual oyster shuckers; a large flat bladed screwdriver. I would recommend this knife, with a caveaut, to only use it when shucking small to medium oysters.

LamsonSharp 3-1/2-Inch Forged Paring Knife

LamsonSharp 3-1/2-Inch Forged Paring KnifeIt's such a pleasure to hold a nice knife in your hands. I am not a gourmet chef and I can't say whether a gourmet chef would think this is an exquisite knife, but I have two complaints with all the knives I can buy in any store locally to me: 1) they are junk that doesn't hold an edge or last over the years, and 2) they're made in countries associated with low quality workmanship. In contrast, the Lamson Sharp knives I've bought (and I have a rack full of them, right beside my rack of cheap knives I am wearing out) take and hold a good edge, and they're made in the USA. You get what you pay for.

Have own Lamson knives for a few years now, and love the weight and quality of the steel. American made at its best.

The quality feel, construction, fit and finish are in line with the other LamsonSharp forged knives I purchased. However, this particular knife arrived less than razor sharp. It didn't appear used but the edge wasn't very good and had to be touched up with a steel. Perhaps the blade rubbed against the packing box in transit, who knows.

When I purchased this knife there was even an extra discount on it and I was able to add a very good knife to my cutlery. It was a "steel" of a deal!

It holds a good edge once you get it sharp enough. It also has a great feel to it in my hand and is a beautiful piece of craftmanship. I just love it!

Dexter-Russell (S142-9SC-PCP) - 9" Utility Knife - Sani-Safe Series

Dexter-Russell - 9' Utility Knife - Sani-Safe SeriesThe description doesn't mention it's a serrated edge. Would never have bought it. I don't blame the knife, I blame amazon for not giving a good description!

A friend of ours had this knife on his boat and used it to cut through solid pieces of frozen bait. It worked like a charm! I bought several sizes and liked them so much I bought several more. They are so easy to clean and have a solid plastic handle that has a great grip. The blade is serrated but cuts very neatly through anything. I have no complaints about these knives and would buy more in a heartbeat.

J.A. Henckels International Classic Forged Hollow-Edge Stainless-Steel 2-Piece Knife Set

J.A. Henckels International Classic Forged Hollow-Edge Stainless-Steel 2-Piece Knife SetHaving been fascinated by all the hype over the hollow edge knives, I did my homework and picked this 2 knife set to try. After using these knives and in particular the 5" knife I understand what the rave is about. The control and shape of the knife allows for very precise cutting and slicing. From meat to vege's the 5" knife has a very light yet accurate feel. Being only 5" long the knife isn't meant for large items, but I have already ordered the 7" version. My wife uses the paring knife for almost all her light daily activites.

If you are a novice to better cutlery, Henckels makes very high quality items and in my opinion, is an excellent value. I already own a full set of Wusthoff and frankly am not sold on the brand. This 2 knife set, a 8" chefs knife, and perhaps the 7" hollow edge would be what I would pick to start a collection of good knives.

I am so glad I bought this set. I thought about some more expensive knives, some recommended by "famous" chefs, but this set along with the bread knife are all I need in my kitchen. The handles are well balanced. Not too heavy, not too light. Everything about this set, IMHO, is just about perfect. They cut like thru butter, the handles are designed to fit into my hands just right. I really love them.

Core Bamboo Matte Finish 3-Piece Modern Bamboo Cutlery Set, Banana

Core Bamboo Matte Finish 3-Piece Modern Bamboo Cutlery Set, BananaI first found these sets at marshalls and got them for school. I fell in love with them and wanted to get more for the following year so I got three more colors. They are easy to wash and the knife is actually pretty sharp. I took my sets camping and they cut through steak and chicken. The only downside that one of my friends mentioned is that the fork and spoon are shallow. For me it is not a big deal and I didnt notice until he brought it up but if you like to eat soup or something like that it might be a little harder. Over all I really love this set, and the colors are fun and bright, better than a plain silver!

These look great mixed with their other colors.

It also looks great in my picnic caddy and the colors are very pretty in person.

The only drawback is that sometimes the paint can be scratched.

The ones I bought from Amazon were great but a set I ordered from somewhere else had a tiny scratch on the side.

No big deal, I can probably paint over it. I would still buy them again.

BROWN SILVER CLOTH FLATWARE HOLDER - DRAWER LINER PAD- BROWN SILVER CLOTH

BROWN SILVER CLOTH FLATWARE HOLDER - DRAWER LINER PAD- BROWN SILVER CLOTHAfter struggling with wooden silver chests that slam shut, are heavy, boxy and difficult to store, I switched to the drawer liner type. It works as well as a wooden silver chest in warding off tarnish, and is so much easier to see your flatwear at a glance. Also, there's a bit of room to include other small pieces of silver tucked between some empty space.

I would buy this product again without hesitation.... just be certain the drawer liner will fit easily into the drawer you want to use for this purposes.

It's a great product.Fits our draw perfectly. Be sure to measure first. Amazon is the most reliable vendor for most products.

If you are going to have silver and use it, these storage containers are a must. The cloth absorbs whatever it is in the air that causes tarnish. You load the pieces into the slots, which keep things neat and together. Then lay the top cover over the top. The cover is attached to the back of the holder. It works very well. Its very easy to retrieve the silver when you set the table or prepare to serve. And its very easy to put the pieces away. I have a few of these and have given then as gifts.

AC 90 Safe and Sound Gear Knife Roll Holds Approx. 60 Knives

AC 90 Safe and Sound Gear Knife Roll Holds Approx. 60 KnivesFor under $13 and free shipping, this is a real bargain. Try finding any knife roll that holds more than 20 knives for under $50 and you'll be hard pressed. Beyond that, you do get what you pay for.

Construction:

The item is made from genuine grade-X pleather that will likely crack and begin to fall apart under light use within a few years. The buckles are very thin and hollowed out and the straps feel like you could pull them in half if you yanked hard enough. The stitching is ok, but the materials are so frail that I would trust the stitching to hold up more than I would the synthetic leather and cloth. The quality is that of a toy purse that would come with a doll or an accessory intended for children under 5. That said, for $12 + change, it is a great temporary solution and I fully expected what I got.

Functionality:

When unlatched and unrolled, the bag is surprisingly long. The cloth flaps you see pictured unfold completely to display about 60, very small, black elastic bands placed very close to one another. The elastic is of poor quality and I expect it to dangle after extended use like the elastic document strap on the sun vizor of a 1992 Honda Civic. This product will hold many-a-pocket knife, butterfly knife, multi-tool, and small dagger. You cannot, however, fit medium-to-large sized knives in the roll unless you ignore the elastic straps intended to keep the knives in place. I have a good number of small pocket knives and it works great for them. Be careful fully loading this badboy though. Under the full weight of 60 knives, I imagine the handle would tear right off the roll when you lifted it if you didn't cradle it under your other arm. Fill it about half full and save the other half for when your elastic fails.

Overall:

I'm happy with the purchase. I mean, $13? It's cheap and it organizes medium-to-small knives and protects them from just being tossed into a drawer somewhere, clanking together, and damaging each other. This is not a quality item (I mean, who would expect it to be at that price?), however it's exactly the right quality for the price, so I gave this product 5-stars despite its failings. Plus, you'll get to feel like a budget "Dexter" unrolling your little bag of tiny folding knives to show off to your friends.

Buy this product if:

You have a lot of small knives you want to organize.

Your 12 year old is getting a good collection going and needs somewhere to put them.

You just can't afford the next best thing right now.

You don't mind spending the price of lunch on something you'll probably throw away in 3 years.

You want to feel like Dexter and you're on a very tight budget.

you see i'm exceedingly cheap when it comes to these things though I need to use for work but whatever. This in a nutshell simply works it doesn't have compartments to get hold things like a mandoline but it works enough for the other stuff.

The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory Compartment

The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory CompartmentAs a culinary student, I was required to purchase a knife case with triple zip compartments. I had two choices: Ultimate Edge or Mercer. From my understanding, Mercer supplies the majority of culinary schools with knives and tools. Since my school carries the Mercer brand, I was able to check it out in person before deciding which bag to purchase.

Although the Ultimate Edge case is a bit more expensive, I am glad I picked this bag over Mercer for several reasons:

Ultimate Edge's case feels more durable and holds its shape, whereas Mercer felt and looked floppy.

The interior of the Ult.Edge case is black and the slots holds knives firmly in place. In the Mercer bag, the interior is red, made of nylon, the pockets don't hold knives as firmly, and overall looked cheap.

The third zip compartment of the Ult.Edge bag has 3 mesh zipper pockets to hold additional tools in place. Mercer has its accessories compartment too, but I was too distracted by the tacky red interior to really take notice.

Although both bags are the same size, Ult.Edge's bag looks more sleek in my opinion. Mercer has 2 snap locks on the front to secure the bag, but Ult. Edge has a velcro padding to enclose the top handles.

If you're looking for a well designed, high quality knife case, then I highly recommend Ultimate Edge. I think for the price and the overall quality and functionality, this is the best one available.

I've been in the restaurant industry for over 13 years and have had a knife bag or two. This bag is by far the best one that I have ever seen! It holds all the knives and other tools that you could ever imagine putting in a knife bag. What I love about this bag is that it opens like a book, therefore being more compact and taking up less space on the prep table or on the line. Also, I love that this bag zips up, keeping all your stuff securely in the bag. Overall, I would honestly recommend this knife bag to anyone who has to bring a large number of knives and equiptment to work. Worth the money for sure!

Buy The Ultimate Edge 18 piece Knife Case with Full Accessory Compartment Now

This is a great knife bag. I made my purchase predominantly because this was one of the knife bags I looked at that had multiple reviews, so I felt like I knew what I was getting. And when it arrived I was not disappointed.

To me, what makes this bag exceptional vs. other bags is that it so brilliantly organizes all of your tools, gadgets, knives. With three fully zippered sections, this bag really does open like a book. And compared to my past knife bags, it's nice to be able to fully close it, as compared to the roll style that does not. The two sections for your knives for me, as I am a Pastry Chef, were more then adequate. But the 2 sections combined have room for at least 18 knives. One thing to keep in mind is that one side of each "page" of the knife compartment is intended for larger knives with larger handles and has 4 slots, the opposite "page" has 5 slots for smaller knives. So that's a total of 4 pages to put knives and other long handled tools; tweezers, offset spatulas, tongs, etc. The two knife compartments each have a protective layer in between with velcro attachments so your knives/tools won't rub together.

The third section is for smaller tools. Both sides are lined with mesh. It opens up and on one side you have a fully zippered subsection for the larger of your smaller tools; microplanes, candy thermometers, bench scrapers etc. The other side has two fully zippered smaller sections that each run the length of the bag. Small offsets, peelers, paring knives, sharpies, whatever you need, you have plenty of room. The only thing I would change here if I could, was to have used a clear mesh material instead of black. It's a minor critique I realize, but it would have made it a little easier to see everything. Organization is really important in kitchens, and with this bag you will be feeling great that all of your prized tools are neatly stashed away.

Overall this is a great buy for the price. The material is heavy duty, and any professional chef knows the importance of this. It's a good size too, large enough for all of your essentials and much more, but not so bulky that you can't bring it on the line. The zippers are very durable as well, and the shoulder strap and handle are well made too.

Great work Ultimate Edge People!

This case far succeeded my expectations! The case is very durable and offers many slots for all you knives!!

The only negative I have is if you put a knife with a big handle in the selected slot, it will stretch it out to the point where you cannot fit a knife with a smaller handle (e.g. Chef knife to paring knife) but it doesn't really make a difference that would change my mind on the case! You just have to designate certain slots for bigger knives, its really NO BIGGIE!! Good work Ultimate Edge, only if you made a case for my Sniper rifle, then we would be set!! haha!

Adios

I ordered this knife roll for my wife, who is graduating from culinary school in December. The case comes with three zippered compartments, two compartments with slots/sleaves for knives, etc; and one compartment that contains meshed zipper compartments for smaller cutlery items such as garnishing tools. I like the fact that you can get alot of cutlery into this bag without having to unfold or open all of the compartments. The bag is made of a thicker nylon type material than the knife roll that came with her Wurstof knive set and seems like it will hold up very well.

I will update with my wife's comments once she receives it.

Global G-2338 - 3 Piece Starter Knife Set with Chef's, Utility and Paring Knife

Global G-2338 - 3 Piece Starter Knife Set with Chef's, Utility and Paring KnifeI wanted my knives to have the following characteristics: 1. sharp 2. Lightweight 3. Thin blade. 4. The feel it will last forever.

They are most definately sharp. Very light weight. Thinner blade compared to some German knives. I also got the feeling they would last forever due to the handle being metal too. Other knives you may have to worry about the rivets or deteriorating wood handles.

Handles: I bought these online based on reviews and the pictures here on Amazon. In the pictures I thought the black dots may have been some kind of rubber for grip. I wasn't too keen of the thought of potentially having little pieces of rubber glued to the knife. I ordered this set anyway and was pleasantly surprised that the dots are just colored dimples like a golf ball.

Utility knife grip: Looking at the picture of the utility knife I was worried about the grip because the handle looks a little different. I immediately washed this knife upon receiving it and used it to chop up some veggies. I found it very comfortable to use. No concerns with the grip at all.

My set was out of the box sharp and I was chopping things up effortlessly. There really is a "wow" factor if you've only experienced cheap knives from your local *mart stores.

I purchased these knives in September 2009. I carefully selected these knives after reading several reviews and because the steel used has a high Cr content making it one of the better performing materials for a kitchen knife. We had a quality problem with one knife, that was resolved quickly by the US distributor (see below for more information), but I would not let this deter anyone from purchasing what I think is good value for money for anyone who spends a lot of time in their kitchen.

The quality problem: After a few weeks I noticed the paring knife showed black spots on the blade surface (corrosion of the stainless steel). I was taking good care of the knives (not putting them through the dishwasher etc.) but still this knife corroded faster than any stainless steel I had ever seen, and none of the other knives had this problem so I concluded this was a quality issue on the paring knife. I contacted Chefs Resource (the vendor) and they just pointed me to the US distributor's website (to be honest I was very disappointed with their response so I wouldn't recommend Chef's Resources over any other vendor). I then returned the knife to the US distributor with a warrantee claim form (). I am please to say that within a few weeks a replacement knife was mailed back to me. I believe this was a rare quality problem that I have not seen in any of the other knives and I was pleased the US distributor stood behind the product and did the right thing. I was happy that after investing so much in a high quality knife that when a problem did occur the US distributor honored their commitment to the customer Great job by Sointu USA.

I bought these knifes 4 years ago and till that day I am very satisfied with them. They are light, well balanced and easy to clean since they are made from one piece of metal. I wash them by hand, sharpen with Yoshikin 220/GB MinoSharp Water Sharpener and store on MIU France 15-Inch Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Holder. No issues and they look like new. Since i bought this set, we do not use any other/extra knifes in our house. I find chef's knife to be a little too big for me so I mostly use it only when I need bigger knife. My husband on the other hand prefers chef's over utility knife, so I guess that's a matter of preference or maybe hand size? I might also add that my husband is left handed and finds them very easy to handle too.

Highly recommended!

I bought this set a while back and was amazed at how sharp they were when I got them. The chef's knife is great and as useful as you'd expect. I don't find that I have much use personally for the pairing knife, but when I do use it, it's great. The utility knife it turns out is really a nice size for those jobs where a full chef's knife is a little too big. I find myself using that knife much more often than I thought I would because of it's convenient size.

While I really like the knives, I'm finding that maintaining them is going to be more expensive that I anticipated. After a few months of use and carving a few turkeys, I'm finding that the chef's knife doesn't seem to cut the way it once did. It's reasonable that this should happen after some use. Usually when this happens, I run the knife over a steel to condition the edge. I find that after some minor sharpening and honing, even a relatively cheap knife can be made very sharp again with minimal effort. Because of the edge and the steel used in the Globals though, they only recommend using a Global diamond steel. This steel costs more than the knives do. I've tried a normal steel which works fine on my other knives (though Global doesn't recommend it) and didn't get very good results. No damage to the knife, but no improvement in the edge either.

So, I'm going to end up spending a significant amount of money to keep these knives in best form. Much more than I would have with more conventional knives. I don't consider it a huge drawback since the knives are very good, but it's something to consider when making your purchase. It changes my opinion of the knives a bit though. While they are very very sharp and nice to use, they are expensive to maintain. The German knives are nearly as nice to use, less expensive to buy and less expensive to maintain. To my mind, that puts these knives into the category of useful show items. They're a little bit better than the Germans, but the large cost difference isn't really justified by the performance difference. Buy them if you want really good knives and want to show off a bit. If you want something that works really well but isn't as flashy, go with the Germans or even Victorinix which I also have and work nearly as well.

LamsonSharp 3" x 5" Turner

LamsonSharp 3' x 5' TurnerGood points:

* Flexible blade does indeed slide under things.

* Useful size for eggs and grilled cheese sandwiches.

* Dishwasher-safe-ish.

Bad points:

* Handle is made of a plastic that melts at surprisingly low temperatures--the side of a frying pan even at moderately low heat.

* Handle is riveted to blade quite loosely--there is play when the handle flexes. It feels like something is shaking loose, even though this is functionally irrelevant.

* Blade is cheaply made--it is not smooth, but slightly pitted, at the business end.

Excellent turner, good size and flexibility. The only drawback is the material that the handle is made of. It will not sustain heat at all, so if it gets against the rim of a skillet or griddle it will melt promptly.

Buy LamsonSharp 3" x 5" Turner Now

I live in a rural area and I couldn't find a decent turner in a store within a hundred miles, literally! All thick enough plastic to challenge a wheelchair from crossing, or silicone discs on handles. I went clear to another state to find a well-made turner the right size and made of real steel to no avail.

This turner is everything it should be durable but flexible, thin bladed to avoid injuring eggs, big enough for omelettes and burgers, rust-free, and a pure delight. It was a gift for my chef-esque husband and I had to buy several more in two sizes to make him even happier.

My husband and I both love to cook, and even a year later, we still constantly rave about how perfect this Lamson Turner is. I love items that are engineered with thoughtfulness, precision, and perfection, and this turner is one of them. The sharp edge is absolutely perfect for flipping eggs (my easy over eggs are now PERFECT!). I love the precise feeling you have when scooping from under the egg, to find that not one bit has stuck to the pan. The sharp edge is perfect for getting under the thinnest items --crepes, eggs, etc., ensuring, a perfect flip every time. It's also great for scrambled eggs, as you can use the sharp edge to chop up the eggs as thick or as small as you desire. We used this for fried rice in the wok, pancakes, fish, etc. The 3x5 size is perfect for cooking in a fry pan from 8" to 12", or even a wok, and the handle is the perfect length to ensure full control over flipping. We use a knife sharpener to keep the edge finely pointed and it works fantastically.

I wanted a slightly larger than average turner for omelets, grilled cheese sandwiches (which I make on larger slices of bread) and my pancakes which I prefer much larger than the traditional "silver dollar" size. That is the only use I put this turner to, and it does quite well. The blade gets under the food fine, and has enough flex.

I was fortunate enough not to have the issue with a loose handle that others had. The plastic does indeed look and feel cheap, so I knew going in that I would hand-wash it, and never leave it leaning against a hot surface good habits to start early with, so you don't fall into the mentality (so common amongst American consumers) of "everything ought to be fool-proof, therefore I am going to treat my property like a fool, and then complain when things break."

I wouldn't use this turner for burgers or on the grill. It doesn't seem appropriate for anything heavy, and I wouldn't press down on it either (you're not supposed to press down on burgers anyway).

This turner is holding up fine under the duties I have assigned, and I see no reason why it won't last a long time with proper care.

All in all it's a fine product, I am satisfied, but considering the apparent cheapness of the build, it out to be a few dollars less $9.99 for instance.

November 2011 update: The handle has indeed become loose, and it feels even cheaper as a result, but ti still works fine.

Walco Stainless Utica Steak Knife

Walco Stainless Utica Steak KnifeBuyer beware. If you want 12 knives you'll get 12 dozen and then be charged for their misleading product description. Additionally, the quality just isn't close to the restaurant / steakhouse knives. Looked for a heavy, sharp and nice to hold steak knife for a gift and was really disappointed. The serrated edge only rounds the curve and comes done less than half way down the knife. The weight is too light and the wood handle not impressive. It's back to the drawing board for a timeless gift.

Martha Stewart Collection Triple Riveted 2 Knife & Cutting Board Set

Martha Stewart Collection Triple Riveted 2 Knife & Cutting Board SetActually I would keep the board hanging on the wall for meditation, and use a plastic cutting board for the work, which can be more sanitary and washable.

The bamboo board is so beautiful, but can separate with improper washing and drying, so hang it on the wall with some dried herbs, to watch while you cut.

Oh, wait.

Better watch what you cut.

This knife is really the only knife you need. I have one at home wrapped ever in a towel, and lamented the big box source I would buy them from has sold out all of her excellent, durable, well-designed and elegant products.

I am greatly relieved and very grateful to discover that amazon does carry this product. I thought I would never feel right using my MS Santuko, that I would be stealing from my inheritors should I somehow eventually damage it (an impossibility barring earthquake) but as Mr. Marley warned, you go to the well each day with the bucket, one day the bottom falls out.

Now I learn that amazon has one. It is a good thing.

Vegetarian (no meat and no animal by-products) I find this very useful for thin slicing onions and eggplant, fruits and vegetables, fresh herbs like cilantro from the garden, and anything else. The side of its wide blade is especially nice for pressing peeled garlic cloves, after the careful peeling.

All in all the best knife you can get, the only one you'll really need for the long journey ahead.

Knowing now that amazon has one on tap, I can save my full tang wooden handled MS steak knives for later, and unroll the towel from my own MS Santuko, and get back to work in peace.

If only I could find here the full gamut of MS products, in particular the MS 12 quart pot I use to heat wash and bathing water, with its excellent last-for-ever clad bottom which I believe I dinged one morning by heating bath water with no water in it. You take the bucket to the well each day, one day the bottom falls out. It still works wonderfully, but brings me anxiety, and I have no back up

I mean that big box corporation that bought the other big box corporation and threw out MS products, it does lifetime and even forever guaranteed tools. Why not sell the unbreakable Martha, too?

thanks amazon for having at least this one tiny bit of civilization.

and a beautiful bamboo board for my wall!

Me and my wife are huge fans of Martha Stewart santoku knifes so this set with a bamboo board is a no brainer.

Wüsthof Classic Ikon Paring Knife - 4½" - Creme

Wüsthof Classic Ikon Paring Knife - 4½' - CremeWhen I was a kid and trying to learn to cook my mother had only one knife for chopping, paring and slicing. It was the worst knife ever! It was so dull that cucumbers would sort of quish instead of cut, and she kept it until she died. My step-father did learn how to sharpen it better but it was still the worst. These Ikon knives are fabulous. I thought it would be fun to have the white ones and I really am glad I have gotten a whole set

Rosle Breakfast Knife

Rosle Breakfast KnifeThis knife is amazing. Wonderfully sharp cuts through bagels easily. And the squared-off tip is truly great for getting that last bit of peanut butter at the bottom of the jar!

I had one of these for years...it disappeared and I have been looking for another for years. I love the serrated blade for desserts. The end part being squared makes it easy to life out desserts!
