I was originally looking to purchase a Wustof, because I have a few of them, and love the quality. My friend is an Executive Head Chef in a Boston restaurant. He suggested I buy a Mercer instead, because the quality is that of Wustof, with a much lower price tag. He was right, I love this knife. It was a little lighter than I expected, but the quality is great. I highly recommend Mercer.Mercer Cutlery Renaissance 3-1/2" Riveted Paring Knife

When I received my ginsu koden I noticed that the black block was damaged, so I return it to Amazon and receive a new one.Using it for two months, I can say that the knifes are indeed very sharp. But I noticed that one the knives is starting to rust, even with me washing the knifes always by hand.
Now, I noticed that the black block is starting to fall apart and unfortunately I am out of the Amazon return window.
So, If I could go back I would not buy this product.
Update 1: On 11/29/12 I sent an e-mail to GINSU requesting a black block replacement and I received an reply e-mail in the next day asking for my address so they could ship it for me.
Update 2: 10 days later, I received a brand new black block without any cost.
Due to how the company handled so quickly the problem, together with the product quality, I am rating them 4 stars instead of only 2 stars (that was my first rate)I was so thrilled when this set arrived. The block and knives seemed like pretty decent quality stuff and looked spectacular in my kitchen. After one use, and one washing, my brand new knives are already rusting. By the time I remembered to request a refund, I was 4 days late after the refund window, so now I'm stuck with these. I'm going to try to write to Ginsu directly to get a refund. What a waste of money. =(

This is a great knife set. I have been very happy with the quality of the knives since receiving them. The handles are very comfortable when utilizing them and the blades are extremely sharp. I do recommend hand washing these and not keeping them in water (such as soaking) to avoid rust spots on the utensils.8" Thai Chefs Knife, #21 (Kom Kom)
This is a large knife! It works great for smashing garlic with the flat of it.This knife is pretty light, but feels very solid when you're holding it. Be extremely careful! It is very, very sharp. If you touch your hand with it, you will slice the skin!
Slices vegetables like a dream! Even good for slicing bread!
Not so good for fresh mozzarella because of the width of the blade, which sticks to the soft cheese somewhat.
Don't scrape with the sharp side use the back or head of the knife for that unless you want cutting board shavings in your food.
I'm very pleased with this knife. Great value for the price and worth the shipping costs!I really enjoy these Thai style cooking knives. What makes them unique is the thin lightweight blade which is very sharp. The large flat blade face is useful, as another reviewer pointed out, for smashing garlic, as well as for scooping chopped things to transfer to the stove. The knife is large but surprisingly light and accurate. I find this general blade shape to be the most overall useful kitchen knife you can have. It performs most jobs adequately and many jobs exceptionally. I particularly like it for slicing and carefully cutting vegetables. It's also good for slicing fish, decent at cutting raw meat, and the thin but tall blade makes it surprisingly good at slicing fresh baked bread (does not crush the bread and holds a straight line).
For those who use and abuse the venerable 8" Kiwi Chef knife of the same style I'd like to compare the two below:
I got this to accompany my Kiwi 8" knifes. Like this knife, they are extremely affordable yet sharp. This has a full tang (kiwi uses half tang) and appears to be incrementally better in quality. The Kiwi knives do NOT hold an edge for long and you should be prepared to sharpen once a week if regularly used. I don't mind that, but would prefer a more durable edge. So far, the Kom Kom appears to hold it's edge longer though I've only been using it for a couple weeks now. The Kom Kom, while light, is significantly heavier than the Kiwi. I find this, paradoxically, to reduce hand fatigue. The reason being is that the Kiwi is so light that you must push it through your food which can really wear your hand out after a while. The shape and weight of the Kom Kom knife allows a more relaxed cleaving type of cut. Another difference is in the angle of the blade from top to bottom. The Kiwi has a more concave shape meaning that food at the top of the blade can escape completely being cut completely through in exchange for very good cutting performance from the back half of the blade. The Kom Kom knife is still rounded in this manner but less so and tends to cut better along the entire length of the blade. The Kiwi knife is better for some items like soft cheeses, or times when you need maneuverability more than cutting power..it's piercing point is thinner as well and easier for stabbing and splitting pumpkins and squashes.
If all you've tried so far is European or Japanese style chef knives, you should give these a shot. For the price you really can't go wrong.

I got this for my wife after reading about some reviews in foodie mags about Chefs loving to but Kom-Kom products because of the great price, and stellar sharpness. They weren't kidding, I can give testament to that sharpness. We are big fans of butternut squash, but for anyone that has cut it before, you know the skin and flesh making cutting it a chore. We constantly sharpened our knives, and not junkers mind you, to make sure they were sharp enough to not slip during cutting. They still struggled with Mr Butternut Squash. Not anymore, this thing went through it like butter. I love this knife, there is absolutely nothing it won't cut through. I typically use this for veggies, but we have used it for meats as well when we are trying to cut through chicken, steak, pork and other stuff for stir fry or similar setups. I'd highly recommend this knife, it is inexpensive and handles great.Read Best Reviews of 8" Thai Chefs Knife, #21 (Kom Kom) Here
A very nice knife indeed. It's sharper by far than any other that we have. The handle is rather cheaply made I believe but perhaps that is part of the design. Well pleased with handling, delivery and everything in general.Lets say, I have worked enough in kitchens ( 15 years) to know what tools are convenient, easy and affordable to make job pleasant. If you ever wonder how in the hell this Asian Duds can chop so fast something, well try one of those and you will find the answer. The steel is soft so I would not recommended to be used on bones. The knife is best for chopping, slicing and dicing vegetables and fruits. It is very easy to maintain, I mean sharpness. Bottom line if it really gets dull buy two more they are so cheap. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 2-Piece Chef Knife Set
Superb product for the price. Nearly 35 years ago, while in Germany on business, I purchased a chef's knife from Henkels. We STILL have the knife, use it daily and treasure the old world attention to quality and detail. I hope the new ones lives up to that tradition and that my Grand kids will use them for the next 35 years!Norpro 810 Herb Mill
I've used many herb mills over the years, but this is my favorite. Most of the others were more expensive, but don't work as well or clean as easily as this one.
I was glad to find this and picked one up, even though the one I purchased many years ago is still functioning.
Perfect for fresh herbs or dried.
It snaps open and the rotary teeth and handle come out for cleaning. This is very common in France, where I have always had one in my kitchen.
I was missing one here in America and looked for one in stores and online.
This is the best deal I had found (about 6 $) but I was anxious after reading the bad reviews. Now that I have used the item myself, I know it is exactly working the way it is supposed to.
I guess no offense that the people who wrote a bad review had very little experience with such a grinder. So let me tell you how to use it with fresh herbs (I've never seen it used for dried herbs) such as cilantro or parsley (in French, the item is called a hâche-persil, literally a parsley-grinder) :
insert a few clean stems with the leaves at a time (the purpose of the grinder is to use every part of your cilantro for example, not wasting the very flavorful stems). Let's say 5-7 ? If you put too many at a time, it will jam up (reviews about it are right).
start turning the handle in one direction. The leaves and stems will be pushed towards the grinder. Usually you don't need to press the stems in, but if you see that one stem remains out of reach of the grinder slightly press it down.
when it is done, turn the handle in the other direction, allowing some of the herbs still in the grinder to fall in your salad bowl
repeat the steps if you need more herbs
then open the grinder. Some herbs ALWAYS get stuck in the metal parts (this is normal), so take a small, sharp knife and use the end of the blade to remove them. Scratch over the salad bowl, so you won't waste any herbs and won't have to clean.
clean immediately the grinder, using a brush and water. If you wait, the herbs will dry in the metal parts and will be more difficult to scrub out.
You can choose to pay more for the same kind of item but you won't get a better one.
6 bucks is really a great deal. I am so happy to have found my new kitchen-friend for so little money !
Use it over every greens, it will add savor in a few seconds.I was optimistic considering the other product review was glowing ... but sadly this product was worthless to me. I was hoping to find a quicker way to finely chop italian parsley, mint and basil. Maybe this thing can handle dried herbs, but the wet ones just stuck in the grinder. Part of the problem is that there is no way to push them through and the machine doesn't do any good at pulling them through. I alternated between risking my fingers to try to smash through the herbs and using a knife. Once some of it was chopped, almost all of it got stuck in the grinder itself. I guess you can't expect much for $10 but this really didn't warrant paying anything.it's a very low quality piece (soft plastic), fell apart after first use while mincing dry herbs. might be used for fresh/soft herbs, though I believe it will have issues other reviewers already mentioned. consider to buy something else. Not thrilled with this herb mill. Fresh herbs get stuck in the grinder. While I could work to get much of them out, it was a hassle. I'll go back to using my pizza cutter and scissors. Would love to find a herb mill that works!
Chef's Choice 120 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Professional Knife Sharpener
... I don't find the sharpener to do that great a job. I have used Lansky sharpeners for years and recently acquired a Chef's Choice 120. Here are my impressions:PROS:
Does an OK job for the person with no sharpening skills whatsoever.
CONS:
You have to get the timing just right when drawing knives through the unit, otherwise the grind is uneven.
If you accidentally allow the point of the knife to dip down upon withdrawing, it will excessively grind the tip.
The rubber feet do not do an adequate job of stabilizing the unit. It will creep when it is in use. I had to place mine on a piece of latex drawer liner.
Finally, and this is what I dislike most of all it leaves longitudinal scratches along the length of the knife. The scratches are not deep but they ARE noticeable.
My advice Get a sharpening stone and learn to use it or if you don't feel comfortable with establishing sharpening angles, get a Lansky or Gatco sharpener. Stay away from this unit.Over the years I've used Chef's Choice sharpeners with excellent results. Currently I use the 120 model and it produces superb edges on top of the line Henckels knives. It takes about 15 minutes for six knives. When I used stones each knife would take 10 minutes or more. The stones may have produced a slightly better edge but, as a working dad, saving an hour of time is a blessing. Three observations: The usual professional criticism of this system is that it takes off too much steel. I've never found that to be the case. Second, do follow the instructions. Third, different tasks require degrees of sharpness: For some tasks, such as cleaning and cutting a number of fish, a razor sharp edge, without "toothiness," doesn't work for me as well as a slight toothy edge (one with micro-serrations). So experiment.

I have always sharpened my many good knives by hand with only the best stones. I am considered to be excellent at sharpening knives by hand. I would never have considered an electric sharpener, or worse, a scraper on a fine knife, but many knives, six children, canning, cooking and commitments have resulted in my not having time to keep the knives as sharp as I would have liked. The reviews on this sharpener persuaded me to spend the money to try this machine. I sharpened every knife in the house in short order. Even the old steel butcher knives stored in the basement which would have taken over half an hour each if sharpened by hand were perfectly sharpened in just a few seconds. The edge when viewed with a good magnifying glass is scratchy, but the cutting edge is smooth which being the only important part, was smooth. This machine is more consistent than sharpening with a stone by hand and produces as good an edge in a fraction of the time. I give the "Chef's Choice 120" knife sharpener my highest rating and recommend it to anyone wishing to maintain a fine edge on their professional knives. The book must be read before using! You must be able to follow directions when using a machine of this type!Read Best Reviews of Chef's Choice 120 Diamond Hone 3-Stage Professional Knife Sharpener Here
I have a new model 120 and have had excellent results for kitchen cutlery. The device takes about a few practice knives to get used to, but once you become accustomed to how much pressure to exert on knives when sharpening, how far toward the hilt or back of blade to insert the knife, and the action of each stage, you will be able to produce razor-sharp kitchen blades, this includes serrated knives and Santoku blades.I purchase a series of new Cuisinart kitchen knives that were dull; in fact, the blade steel had a burr on it, a sign of an unfinished sharpening process. The knives are made well and use good quality steel, but the company's sharpening process was sorely lacking. No problem, thanks to the model 120. I sharpened several paring knives, two Santoku blades, Chef's, long meat slicing, serrated bread, and a serrated fruit/veggie knives with exceptional results. The blades were able to slice through paper after the process, much like a quality sports knife. No need to spend more for an exceptional sharpener.
I even restored the edges on three knives that a previous sharpener, the CC Trizor XV, had 'butchered.' The Trizor XV puts a 15-degree edge on knife blades. I found the device took too much material of the blade and produced unacceptable edges, not all of which were evenly ground and sharp. The 120 is doing a far better job of sharpening. The CC120 did an excellent job of restoring those blades, making them, too, razor sharp and once again useful. This is a product that is worth the money. At about $5.00 to $7.00 to have each knife professionally sharpened, two more sharpening sessions and the CC120 will have paid for itself. For kitchen knives, this is a great product. And to hone the blades between sharpening sessions, stage three can be used to hone knives. Take the time to read the instructions and you'll save time on new-product R&D and better understand the rationale for each of the three stages.

I bought this set for my MIL who is always coveting my set of Ginsu knives. I have the full block set which includes the steak knives & kitchen sheers. She didn't need the steak knives, so I bought her this prep set. I was disappointed to that this set is not a full sized set. The length of the knives is written in the item description, but I think they need to make it more obvious that these knives are a miniature version of the full sized ones. These four knives are good looking and sharp. And I really mean sharp. They can easily slice vegetables and the like. They have a good nicely balanced feel in your hands. I also like they dont take up too much room on your counter. These are possibly the sharpest knives that I have ever used in my life!! Apparently all these years I've been using dull/below average knives. The reason that I did not give 5 stars is because the block that it comes with is not truly made for these knives. They fit so-so into the slots. The smallest knife we actually had to force into the smallest slot. Other than that I would recommend these knives!! This holder for 12 knives does exactly what I want it to do. Safely transport very sharp knives back and forth to my church culinary chores without taking a chunk out of an unsuspecting colleague. I give it only four stars because it doesn't seem quite as good as some similar products I've seen on various Food Network documentaries, which seem to easily carry things which are a lot less flat than the average knife. But, if the price is right and carrying knives is what you want, get this product, it is especially good at being stiff, avoiding the risk of pushing a sharp tip out at you at an awkward moment.I am overall pretty happy with this case. It is so large though, that when you need to open it, it requires a large open area, and kitchens can often be short on that kind of space. I'm not currently doing any meat carving but this would hold a substantially large knife, perhaps up to a 14".
I do have issues: First, the velcro that folds over the handle was not sewn properly and will be a problem for me soon. It will be too thick for me to sew, so I will have to glue it on. The handle closure is necessary to keep the wrap from unfolding while you carry it. The only other issue I have is that the shoulder strap attachment points are awkwardly offset, so that it makes it odd to carry. One strap attaches at the handle side and the opposing end on the bottom of the roll.
The knife area is beneath a zippered cover, and the zipper is fine. There is a net zippered pouch on the outside of the zippered cover for smaller utensils. There a pocket for business cards and two holders for pens etc, but they are not protected much from being able to slip out of the end of the wrap. The case holds the knives very securely though. I don't think this would be a good case for someone who would use it to carry other gear such as metal spatulas or whisks, it would be too cumbersome. I carry an 8" and 12" french chef, an 8" santoku, a large Chinese chef, a 12" bread slicer, a 6" boning knife, a 12" scimitar, a paring knife and a half dozen or so other small tools, and it fills it up nicely without cramping for space.

I loved that this product was cheap, had plenty of space in it. the only thing I don't like about it is the design for the strap. when I carry it one side of the strap always tries to fall off. that being said it's an easy fix. just find a large knife or honing rod the length of the knife roll on either ends of the roll to keep the strap in line.Want The Ultimate Edge Model 2001-12BN 12 Piece Knife Roll Discount?

Cast Iron Taiyaki Pan
I looked incredibly hard for a good cast iron taiyaki pan and was so excited to finally find this oneand now I'm incredibly disappointed! The pan I received was Aluminum coated in teflon, materials linked to Alzheimer and other health issues! I immediately requested a full refund and am awaiting a response. Please do not buy this pan if you are at all concerned about your health! Amazon should remove this pan!I wish the pan was a little heavier and had a darker finish, but that's personal preference speaking. There aren't very many of these pans available online, that I have found, in cast iron.It does the job. Takes a little practice, but the same can be said for anything.

i have already reviewed other pieces from this companyso far, all have been impressive and well-made. this forged(not stamped) knife holds a sharp edge and cuts easily. i like that it is somewhat lighter than my german counterparts that always feel like i'm wielding an axe or something heavy. don't get me wrong, my wusthof and henckels are beautiful knives, it just seems after a long prep in the kitchen me arm and hand could use a rest. with this (and the other schmidt bros. cutlery) i get the same ease of cutting, better control, and with less effort. this is a nice knife and for the price hard to beat in todays crowded market. try this or a chefs knife and see if you don't agree how much of a bargain these are.Not just a great knife for the money, a great knife. I'm not a professional chef, but a pretty serious home cook, and this is one of the best knives I've ever used. I once had one of the high-end Henckels sets, and this is every bit their equal. This is a pretty serious knife with good looks, proper balance, and a design that just feels right when you use it. Part of the appeal was that this series has some nice cheese knives, however, they are very hard to track down and you probably won't get a good deal on them. I'm a little disappointed that Schmidt Bros. don't carry full stock of their own knives (as of this post). The teak had a dull rustic look when I got it instead of that orange glow they show in all their photographs. Keep in mind, wood is a living thing and you will want to oil the handle every so often when it starts looking thirsty. In most cases, this results in a darker looking handle.

This magnetic knife holder is: easy to install, convenient, sturdy, space saving, nice to look at.This item is awesome! It freed up so much space on my counter that I love to be in my kitchen now. The hooks swivel out of the way so if you don't need them, you do not have to use them. My knives are visible and I can easily pick the one I want and not search for which slot the knife is in. Unfortunately, the directions were missing (?) and I had to determine which drill bit (1/4in) would be best so I guessed at the size before I made the holes in my wall. I guessed well and it installed easily. My husband was thrilled with it once I got it up and our tiny kitchen has more space than ever before. I highly recommend this product!I actually did not put in the hooks on this strip (I have the 24" holder as well, and am using the hooks on that one) because I just wanted this for my knives and the handles would have blocked access to the hooks. This is currently holding a chef's knife, santoku, small chef's knife, small santoku, sandwich/utility knife, paring knife, carving knife, tomato knife, slicer, and bread knife with no difficulty at all. I would highly recommend this to anyone that wants to store their knives on the wall rather than having them clutter up their drawers.i will never go back to using a knife block again. i mounted this on my wall and it holds my 8 piece pure komachi 2 knife set, along with shears and magnetic nesting measuring spoons. i do NOT have the hooks installed, or there wouldn't be enough room for everything else. i am very happy with my purchase. It's just what I was looking for. Holds knives securely. I love the hanging hooks. Installation was a breeze. Looks great on my kitchen pegboard.T-fal Signature Nonstick 12-Piece Cookware Set
We ordered this set to add on to an existing mish mash of pots and pans we've had for years. The hope was that we could toss some of the older pans out.Strong Points: Great coating, the food literally slides off with little effort. Inclusion of a couple tools is a nice touch (though not sure it's worth paying more for, as the tools probably retail for a dollar or two). Heating distribution is even, and so it cooks effectively.
Weak Points: Small. It's hard at times to convert 8" pot into a visual, especially when the pictures show things that look bigger. A few of the pans are suitable for children, but not big enough to cook something for a single adult.
Overall, the product appears well made, but I would go to a more expensive set with a larger selection of pots and pans if I was going to use these as my primary cooking utensils.I am very pleased with my cookware. The quality is great and the price was right. Easy to clean up after use.

This is one great fixed blade knife for use around house, farm and outdoors. Holds a fine edge and is easily sharpened. Only drawback is one needs to make a sheath or have one made. Had a custom Kydex sheath made for this knife and bought a dozen of these Lamb Skinner Knives. Use them to do home butchering of beef, hogs and wild hoofed game. They do wear out after about 80-100 sharpenings. That's why I purchase them in bulk. Handle of this knife stays comfortable even in sub zero temps and cleans easily. The knife has a good strong back, but allows for a bit of flexing. I have used more expensive knives and having them not measure up to the quality, durability and economy of this knife. This is one "sleeper" of a knife!Expandable Drawer Organizer-Trays
It was worth the price. The wood is nice enough. The dimensions are inaccurate, however: it is actually 14.5 inches deep not 11.5 as featured. I purchased it because it was for a drawer that is only 12 inches deep. I am able to use it in another drawer, so all ends well. The construction method involved the use of staples that promptly popped out after a little stress so I hammered in a couple of fine finishing nails to replace them and it works just fine. Not designed for heavier flatware. Expansion feature is nice. After some finishing nails and a little wood glue we are good to go. It is now a permanent drawer divider though.Buy Expandable Drawer Organizer-Trays Now
I have looked everywhere for just the right utensil organizer and finally found this one. It expands to fit so looks customized, and it really keeps everything neat in the drawer. I like that it is wood, too it is easy to clean and will look nice for years. The wood also makes it look like a built in unit in the drawers which makes my kitchen cabinets look more uniform and well built.Purchased this product for my bathroom drawer where I keep my makeup, etc. It is a high quality product and adjusted to my drawer very well. Would order again. This is very good quality, looks great and functions well. I think it would be even better if two sides expanded, then it would exactly fit almost any drawer size.Ricci Bamboo 5-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Hostess Set
I was very pleased with the quality of each serving piece, as I was trying to match an existing set. The sugar spoon was especially nice. This was a bridal shower gift, and the packaging was similar to a box that held an oversized tube of toothpaste the 5 serving pieces were stuffed inside of this nondescript box. Each piece was in a plastic sleeve, so it was protected. As an item that cost $100.00, this was not presented in an attractive fashion.Hampton Forge HMC01B638A Buckingham 14-Piece Cutlery Set
Nice set it was on sale. Had to sharpen them though, they weren't very sharp out of the box. The wood handles aren't really matched up well to the steel of the blades, the wood is uneven where it's riveted on. I'll have to take some fine emery cloth to them. Not worth it.You get what you pay for... I would not purchase again. Poor quality. Handles have loosened and the knives are (and never have been) very sharp.Buy Hampton Forge HMC01B638A Buckingham 14-Piece Cutlery Set Now
