Chroma Kasuni Diamond Sharpener

Chroma Kasuni Diamond SharpenerExtremely disappointed with how the product arrived. The sharpener seems to work fine, but it arrived with scratches and scrapes all along the sides and top. I certainly wouldn't recommend this seller.

there are chepper products out there that will do the same thing. i personally perfer a wet stone over these sharpeners. dose it work? yes, but not worth $70. for one you can get a good diamond steel for $30 and a sharpener of this style for less then $70; though i wsould recommend a wet stone and you learn how to sharpen it that way and a diamond steel is always good to have on hand for those quick edges.

Victorinox 5-Inch Mini Chef's KnifeI have always been impressed with the Swiss Army Knife so I wanted to give this knife a try. So far it has handled all the cutting jobs with ease. I like the size and it feels good in my hand. The size allows you to do a variety of cutting jobs.

I can highly recommend this knife.

Old River Road 3-Piece Cheese Knife Set

Old River Road 3-Piece Cheese Knife SetThese work so well with the Old River Road Cheese Knives! I love them, my guests love them and they're easy to wash up and hand dry. Bought another set for my sister!

The only issue I had was that these were packaged in a cheap, flimsy box something like you'd see in a bulk shipment not in a nice presentation box as you often see cheese knife sets in stores. The look is perfect for the person on my Christmas list, and she did love them. I purchased a nice Christmas tin to present them in and pretty them up a bit.

Unique and artsy serving set with reasonable quality. I ordered 2 sets as gifts. Do not get these gift wrapped; one set arrived with the fork and two of the serving pieces, but no knife. I wouldn't have known if i had had them gift wrapped. Plus they will present better if I wrap them in a nicer box and not in platic bags (great for shipping, but not for presenting). The handles are beautiful but the stainless areas had some pitting and other minor flaws. I did chose to have the set that was sent incomplete replaced though because overall I haven't found any set as interesting for the price.

Victorinox Fibrox 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife

Victorinox Swiss Army 7-Inch Fibrox Granton Edge Santoku KnifeForschner is by far the best knife for the money. They always arrive razor sharp, and have the ability to hold an edge far longer than much more expensive knives. I purchased one for all of my line cooks as they are very durable and can be used to perform almost any task in a professional kitchen.

The "sports mom" comment that it "felt cheap" was probably due to its light weight and composite plastic handle. To an untrained eye, it could be confused for a "cheap" knife, but after de-boning a chicken, slicing through a butternut squash, it still glides through tomatoes like butter and can perform the most surgical of cuts. The composite plastic handle has an amazing grip even when your hands are covered in duck fat, it won't slip.

I own knives that can run up into the $1200 range, but still prefer this little powerhouse for everyday use. If you only own one sharp knife in your entire kitchen, this should be the one. I also have the 10 inch forschner chefs knife, but prefer the graton edge on this one, especially while slicing potatoes.

(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM)The R H. Forschner by Victorinox 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife gets almost as much use in my kitchen as the R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 8-Inch Chef's Knife. They both have the black Fibrox handle, which is very comfortable in the hand. They also each have a nice balance to the blade for extended use. The Santoku knife is a little shorter, making it slightly more agile for deboning or butchering. But the slightly greater heft of the chef's knife make it a tad better on larger jobs.

The ridges on the side of the Santoku knife relieve pressure when slicing and dicing. The edge seems to be less aggressive than the chef's knife, but the difference is rather subtle. Both are excellent, but the chef's knife just seems to holds its edge for a slightly longer time. Either of these could be your primary knife, and both are a worthy addition to your kitchen. These two particular models are my personal favorites and make up half of the four knives I use most when preparing meals.

Other than those two knives, I mainly only use a filet knife and a paring knife when cooking. The R H. Forschner by Victorinox 3-1/4-Inch Paring Knife is very highly rated, though I use a different older knife that I had before purchasing these other knives.

For those who prepare a smaller amount of fish than I do, the filet knife's role can really be filled by the Santoku knife. When preparing certain fruits and vegetables, I know the Santoku knife needs sharpening when it does not effectively break the skin unless you start from the point. While I sometimes will use my smaller paring knife for prepping such items, this is a good way to know when it's time to sharpen your knives.

The Forschner line-up of knives are impressive, and give you a lot of knife for a reasonable cost. I purchased too many budget knife sets that ended up collecting dust. I have come to rely on my four favorite knives and find that they do 99% of everything I need in the kitchen.

Definitely consider this knife in combination with others, instead of a knife and block set. A few carefully selected knives are better than a set of average knives any day. Though if I were to purchase a block set, you can get a decent compliment of Forschner knives in the R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 8-Piece Knife Block Set. I don't own that set yet, but I'm just putting that info here for anybody determined to get a knife block set that plans on buying one or more Forschner knives anyway. Perhaps for those that don't have a sharpening steel or chef's knife, it may be worth the investment.

If I had to choose between the 8 inch chef's knife or the 7 inch Santoku, I would take the chef's knife. But for the person who likes to cook often, you will find that both of these knives get plenty of use in your kitchen.

For those that want to gain the 3 most commonly sought knifes, the R.H. Forschner by Victorinox 3-Piece Fibrox Chef's Set is probably ideal for many. For me, I prefer the 8 inch chef's knife to the 10 inch, and I like the Santoku knife over the more slender slicing knife. Either way you go, you really can't go wrong with these.

Enjoy.

Buy Victorinox Fibrox 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife Now

The Victorinox Fibrox line of knives are all composed of the same high grade metal and well built handles. Cooks Illustrated did indeed rate these knives. However, this santoku was not one of them I believe. The article I read was of the chef's knife.

I have tried many different santoku knives but this one feels the most at home. For me the handle is a little small but it's light. Deceptively light. You wouldn't believe how easily it can go through anything you put it against.

The Granton edge does indeed help with food coming off of the knife. Unless you are chopping something that REALLY sticks to the knife, like I do many times.

Even though I prefer the chef's knife version of this line, the santoku is probably the best one I've ever used. You won't be sorry that you bought this blade. And if you are... it only cost you around $30. Sure, it's no Ken Onion, but then again, it's not over $180 either. For the price, you just can't beat it.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this Santoku. I am into cooking. I was prepared to buy one of the two hundred dollar plus hand forged Japanese Santoku's available from one of my specialty catalogs when I read in Cook's Illustrated that in their tests the Forschner Chef Knife had beaten out some of the most expensive chef knives available and had become a favorite of chefs in their test kitchen. I figured the construction and quality of the Forschner Santoku and the Forschner Chef Knife would be equivalent. I bought it from Amazon and have used it on numerous occasions and I love it. Well balanced, sturdy, yet light weight, it is incredibly sharp right out of the package and easy to maintain. The handle is very comfortable and grips well even when wet. What more could you ask for from a knife under $30?

Want Victorinox Fibrox 7-Inch Granton Edge Santoku Knife Discount?

By far the best Santoku knife that you can buy for the money. I purchased this for $20 +ship and would spend $30 +ship if I had to. Don't waste your money or overpriced Henckels or Wusthof, you will get what you need right here with the R.H. Forschner.

PROS:

1. Ergonomic and slip resistant handle. No concern at all of it slipping out of your hand.

2. Razor-sharp edge. Watch out, the blade on this knife is unbelievably sharp. Slicing through raw potatoes for steak fries was like cutting through butter.

3. Easy to clean. No cracks or crevices for food to build up.

4. Lightweight and well-balanced. This is not a heavy knife. When in use it feel like an extension of your arm. Not a dumbbell. I see the lightness as a positive.

CONS:

n/a

If you do not already have, I recommend purchasing a Blade Saver (holster) for this knife. (1) Because you don't want to dent or damage the blade wherever you place it and (2) So that you don't cut yourself when locating it in your drawer. This is what I recommend: "The Ultimate Edge BS4 4-Piece Knife Blade Saver Set"

UPDATE 06DEC2008:

I have been using this knife quite often chopping vegetables and slicing meat. It has worked flawlessly, however, I recommend that you invest in a good sharpening knife as the knife seems to dull quite fast. I believe this is in part due to the fact that santoku knife blades are more narrowly cut. While it allows for a razor sharp edge, the edge dulls much faster. May I suggest the Wusthof Asian Edge Sharpener as this specifically sharpens santoku blades Wüsthof Asian Edge Sharpener, Red.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Set with Block

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Knife Set with BlockI have a set of mid-range Henckels that I bought some years ago, and they are -muchbetter than this. I bought this set for my daughter because they were a good compromise between quality and price, and she won't ruin then in the dishwasher. I would have thought that Henckels wouldn't make any actual crap, but this set comes awfully close. The good thing is, boy are they sharp. But there's bad things too. Only the 8" chef's knife and the shears have any feel of quality at all, the rest are -verythin and flimsy. 'Laser-cut' edges are overrated make them another millimeter thick please, so they can make a precise cut without the blade bending and taking off in an unintended direction. A good knife is an extension of the cook's intention it does what you want, and does NOT require thought and pre-conception and compensation in every cut. (...)is waaay too much for one adequate chef's knife and some toys. Very disappointed in Henckels, and in Amazon too, I don't feel I got what I ordered.

Henckels Twin Signature 7-Piece Block Set is exactly what I'd hoped that it would be: a quality set of knives that is ideal for the home.

The set of Henckels that I've owned since the mid-80s finally gave in to a lot of use, sharpenings and dishwashings (dishwashing a good knife is a nice way to shorten the handle's life expectancy!). But 20 years of great service from my previous set of Henckels certainly warranted a loyal update/upgrade to another Henckels set.

And I am not disappointed. The new set is quite sturdy. Home users will be impressed with their strength; pros might be used to a higher standard, but I used to work in a professional kitchen and I can't see how these would not be as effective as anything a pro has.

These knives come out of the box SHARP too...a lot sharper than the sharpest that I've ever had my previous set sharpened to.

There were two descriptions from Amazon that tell you what you get; one of Amazon's descriptions included a carving knife (product description) and the other a peeling knife (what's in the box). Amazon seems to have corrected the error as of this updated 2-13-2006 writing. To be sure, here's what you actually get:

2 1/2" peeling knife

4" paring knife

5" serrated knife

8" chef's knife...this baby cuts through a roast like a hot knife through butter even though it's designed for chopping and dicing. In my opinion, it's better than a carving knife.

a sharpening steel

kitchen shears

and a storage block with 11 slots which is great because some of the knives, especially the serrated knives, from my old set are still in mint shape (like the 8" bread knife), so there's plenty of room in the block for knives in your current collection looking for a new place to sleep.

No 8" carving knife. But like I said above, the 8" chef's knife works better than any carving knife that I've used.

The only things missing from this set for the average home is a nice large bread knife (as I said this was not a problem for me) and steak knives (also not a problem as most households already have these). Plain and simple, this is a great set of food preparation knives that--if my previous set is any indication--will last for decades.

Bon Appetite.

A very solid knife set, especially with the extra slots for those who have a few "favorite" knifes left in the drawer. MAKE SURE when you buy Henckels to get the "twin" set instead of the single little henckel-man, that's a big upgrade in quality. Oh, and for goodness sake people, quit putting your knife set through the dishwasher and just clean them as you go.

Please note that one of the product images does not correspond with what is listed under product features. You get exactly what is listed under the product features--not what you see in the image. You do not get the 8-inch carving knife. You can get this for another $32 on amazon. I read the product description when I ordered this item, and compared it to the image, and must have assumed that the mistake was in the product description and not the product image---I was wrong. I think that this is rather misleading on the part of Amazon. The product image needs to be updated.

Picnic Time Fontina 20-Inch Cheese Board/Tool Set

Picnic Time Fontina 20-Inch Cheese Board/Tool SetAfter looking at several cheese board/serving trays on line, I landed on this one and am so glad I did. This was a gift for my cheese-loving husband-I figured he'd use it to serve on when company comes, but he also loves it just for personal use! The compartments are the perfect size for crackers, nuts, snacks, and the removable cheese board is big enough for a couple of cheeses. The quality is lovely: sturdy with a smooth finish, and the included cheese knife stays in place with a small magnet. Perfect gift for someone who likes to entertain, or for someone to use as a personal "snack tray."

Winco 10 Compartment Knife Bag, BlackThough there are spaces for 10 knives, some of them are so close to the fold that you cannot put a wide (chef or santuko) blade in them. The pockets are too small for some knife handles as well.

I strongly recommend using blade guards.

The straps are very short, and tend to slip out of the clips.

I gave it 4 stars instead of three due to the price.

Price was perfect.. Fits all your knives you need and other things as well.. Only problem I have is that the velcro is sewn on the wrong direction and doesn't stay stuck together or even reach the other end to stay stuck had to have someone resew it for me. For that reason I give it 4 out of 5 stars other then that it's a good bag to have for the price if you are a chef..

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener

Gerber 22-41847 DF8 SharpenerI've read the existing reviews and here is something that must be added so that those [like me] who have brought this item will not be disappointed. The Gerber finger sharpener is made to sharpen blades with a 30 degree angle this includes axes, pocket knives or any other blades of 30 degrees. "IF" the kitchen knives you have happen to be a 20 degree edge, it will not work, was not made to work and never will.

For kitchen knives with a 20 degree angle, you have the choice of the Ozitech knife sharpener finger style which you can find online or YouTube to see demo, unfortunately there is no demo for Gerber's system. A sad mistake on their part. if you go to YouTube and watch the demo at the end is there web address so you can buy the type you need, just make sure first that you know absolutely what angle degree you need first before ordering either.

hope this helps.

I tried this over and over and if anything it dulled my knife along with scratching it near the tip. I absolutely recommend ANYTHING besides this...very disappointed in Gerber...great knives absolute poor sharpener...

Buy Gerber 22-41847 DF8 Sharpener Now

I've bought several kitchen knife sharpeners over the past twenty years and foolishly used them in place of my diamond steel which took so long to sharpen my knives. After ruining the edge and taper on most of my knives I bought this one because of online recommendations for it. It restored most of my knives to a factory edge after only a few minutes sharpening. I'm confident that it will restore all of them with a little patience. My slicing knife will now cut tomatoes with one downward stroke without sawing them so that's a definite plus. The most impressive thing is that the knives stay sharper longer than before and it's simple to use. For the price it's well worth it.

Zyliss Serrated Paring Knife, Red

Zyliss Serrated Paring Knife, RedEvery other knife in our knife block is either from the forged Chef's Choice Trizor line of knives or the forged Wustoff Grand Prix line of knives. In other words, our other knives are pretty darned expensive, with the 3.5 inch paring knife running close to $40.

I'm not saying that to brag, but as a means of comparison, because this $9 stamped steel knife is every bit as delightful to use as any of our other knives. Great ergonomics/handle and the thing cuts like a dream on everything we've tried it on. Incredible on tomatoes, great on sandwiches, and outstanding on cheese, vegetables, you name it. It's a wonderful cross between a 4" paring knife and an all-around go-to utility knife.

Most serrated kitchen knifes suck. Either the serrations are too aggressive, like on a Ginsu knife, serrations that basically turn the knife into a glorified hack saw rather than a genuine cutting instrument, or the serrations are nothing more than the wavy pattern you see on most bread knives or restaurant slicers, which hardly ad much to a blade's cutting abilities. Zyliss got the serrations right on this knife aggressive enough to make short work of a tomato or crusty piece of bread, but not so choppy as to turn the blade into a saw. The only other kitchen knives with serrations this good are Cold Steel's old K5 and K7 line of knives and Spyderco kitchen knives, both of which have been discontinued.

If you're looking for a great paring or utility knife and especially if you want one with an included cover/sheath that's ideal for camping, tail-gating, and picnics, then this is your knife. For $8 you really can't go wrong.

The Zyliss Serrated Paring Knife is one of the best knives that I have ever owned. It is incredibly sharp and is truly a do every thing knife. At four inches it is large enough to do jobs that your three inch knives can't handle. It will even cut bread. The grip surfaces on the handle are in the perfect places, especially on top for the thumb. The sheath fits good and tight and is a great plus.

For eight dollars this is an outstanding deal. What can I say but I love it.

Chicago Cutlery Forum 10-Piece Knife Set

Chicago Cutlery Forum 10-Piece Knife SetWas initially very happy with this set nice feel, nice block, even a built in sharpener. I've had them about 3 months now, and I have to say now I'm VERY disappointed... The blades are all RUSTING! I've had Chicago Cutlery knives since I've been cooking (over 25 years now) and have owned multiple sets as well as purchased them as gifts for others this is the first set I've ever seen RUST! I've contacted the mfg to see what they will do about it, but judging from other things I have read online, it appears rust is something that is common with their less expensive line of knives, and they don't consider it a "manufacturer's defect" ... So buyer be warned if you do purchase these, be very careful about cleaning them, and drying them immediately, and keep them coated with a fine layer of cooking oil, otherwise your set will end up like mine: rusted and destined for the trash...

I have been looking for a decent set of knives. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but I wanted to be able to do basic cooking. These knives have been very sharp so far. They do get water/ rusty looking spots if not dryed right after washing though.

Buy Chicago Cutlery Forum 10-Piece Knife Set Now

My roommate bought these knives for us to use, and as college students, these are amazing. We used these knives pretty much daily for over a year and a half, and did hand wash and dry most of the time, so we didn't have rust. I like the sizes and number of knives included, the shears were useful, and the built-in sharpener was nice. These were very sharp, I used them to cut off the slimy bits of fat on chicken breasts with no problem, and they did not squash kiwis and tomatoes.

Basically, I couldn't beat the price and sharpness of these knives. I love my roommate's so much, I am buying some of my own since I moved out.

Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, SCIDBSS, Downtown Block, Wood Display Block with Metal BaseArrived with broken plexyglass. Magnet is weak and does not hold the knives fast.Thinner profile ones retreat into the bowing, thin glass and the entire assembly has to be eptied and turned around. Terrible.

I bought this knife block for my Dad who just redid his kitchen. It looked like good quality, and especially for the price! When he opened it on his birthday, the plexiglass on one corner had a crack where it was screwed together. He said he can use it and just turn it around, but I think I'm going to return it.

I'm not sure about the quality of the block, but it's interesting that the one I just bought (which was used from Amazon Warehouse) that said the condition was good came with the plexiglass corner by the screw cracked off. I'm thinking the review above me that described the same situation resulted in the buyer returning it and then they resold it to me!! I'm returning it today, the day I received it. So disappointing because it seemed so attractive and a good knife solution for a tight ledge in my kitchen.

This a nice looking, sturdy knife rack of an unusual design. When I received the package I was very pleased with the design, but very disappointed in the assembly quality. The two plastic sides are meant to parallel the central wood block, but on mine they were bowed out in the center, the anchoring screws were askew and some were not screwed tight.

I was so disappointed that I returned the block for a replacement, only to find the same problem with the second. I again returned it and when the third arrived, it too was poorly assembled. I gave up.

I bought this would block thinking it would be a nice edition to my kitchen, but when the first one arrived, it was cracked by one of the screws. I gave the brand the benefit of doubt and exchanged it for a 2nd one which arrived not cracked. However, a few weeks later, the plastic sides started to warp out. At that point, I had threw out all the packaging and figured I can deal with the warping. It's now been 7 months and the magnetic wooden center is actually losing its metal attraction, so parts of it can't even hold up the knifes I have in there. I don't recommend this product to anyone. I'm very upset to have wasted so much money on this product.

Beehive Acrylic Plastic Butter Dish

Beehive Acrylic Plastic Butter DishWhile this butter dish is very pretty and looks almost indestructible, it has a serious design flaw. The inside dimensions are about 1/2" too small.

Unless the cube of butter is in the exact center of the dish, the inside of the lid can touch the cube. As a result, when the dish is put into the refrigerator, the butter solidifies and "glues" itself to the inside of the lid making it hard to get the lid off later. Extremely annoying!

To add to the problem, the dish curves inward slightly on both ends, making even less room for the butter cube and more chance for contact with the lid. The plastic lid is over 1/4" thick which is part of the reason there is so little width room for the butter.

The dish is really quite beautiful. It just needs to have a little more room for the butter.

I should have heeded Mr. Kaufman's warning. He was right.

I needed a new butter dish and based on the reviews that the beehive design made it easy to handle, I ordered one. When it arrived, I found that the bottom piece was designed with the outside edge sitting "too close to the ground" so it is hard to pick up. That plus the fact that it was rather pricey make me wish I had looked further and selected something different.

Buy Beehive Acrylic Plastic Butter Dish Now

This Lexan Clear Acrylic butter dish is the next best thing to toast! After going through 3 glass butter dishes at roughly $5 a pop, so far this one appears indestructible. Taking care of my 86 year old father and trying to avoid accidents with broken glass I think this butter dish will do the trick.

It looks just like glass while setting on the kitchen counter or the table. Your average 1¼" X 1¼" X 4½" stick of butter fits perfectly with ½" to spare on either side and a ¼" at the ends when placed in exact center. The base has a lip that the cover fits into snuggly but not tight enough to be picked up by it. Like all acrylic products, I recommend "hand washing" rather than the dishwasher. Ya never know. You just might end up with those tiny cracks left by the high heat and it would be a shame because this butter dish looks so nice.

I've been using this butter dish for a month now and it still looks the same when it was delivered. So far, knives haven't left any cut or scuff marks on the base.

Yes, I recommend this butter dish. It's well worth the money!

Kuhn Rikon Specialty Paring Knife Colori, Bird's Beak/Green, Mini Paring/Yellow, Set of 2As I already have a yellow & red bird's beak knife from Kuhn Rikon, I ordered this set to add yet another color to my set...arrived & it is actually a green mini paring knife & yellow bird's beak...JUST THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE OF WHAT IS NOT ONLY PICTURED, BUT DESCRIBED AS WELL!

Whomever is in charge of doing the descriptions/web site should pay a bit more attention to ALL the details to make sure the item description accuragely matches the item itself

useful little knives, and covers mean i can pack safely in lunchbox or in a drawer without injury. sharp. i like my full length paring knife better than the one here, but very handy for strawberries. colors are opposite what is pictured. not a problem, but weird.

Prodyne 805B Thick Beech wood Cheese Slicer

Prodyne 805B Thick Beech wood Cheese SlicerI like this slicer, its been great, had this for 2 to 3 yrs already, very good, and also has replacement wire, but the wire to cut cheese is very good, probally wont need one for a long time,

so excellant slicer, for almost anything, easy to clean even like the cutting board for other things like tomatos and cucumbers and etc. so in conclusion this is best I've ever had thanks Prodyne.

My son gave this slicer to me and I love it so much I bought one for each of my 4 sisters.....it glides through cheese and after 3 years, the wire did snap and I replaced it for $1.00 from the manufacturer within a week. Thanks and enjoy as much as we do!

This cheese slicer works very well. Don't pay any attention to the negative comments about the wire lining up. It's a cinch to adjust yourself. Just move the arm in or out until the wire is lined up. It gets misalligned with use, so it's easy to fix. I use soap and water to clean, and it doesn't hurt this beech wood at all. I like that it is lighter than the marble ones.

I was a bit hesitant on picking this up after reading a few of the negative reviews, but I'm glad I did. Mine came in perfect shape, with the wire aligned to the slot. Looking at it, it was obvious they tweak them from the factory to make sure they align, as the wire was obviously bent to ensure it lined up properly. This handy little slicer lets me slice through a block of cheese quickly with no tearing or any other issues. I've found cleanup to be as easy as simply running it under the sink and wiping it off. I haven't had any issues with cheese getting stuck in the slot or anything.

Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware Set

Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware SetI received 10 placesettings of this flatware in 1997 for my wedding. I just ordered 6 more placesettings of the same at the end of Dec 2009. When I received them I noticed they were not quite as heavy and not as rounded as my older sets. After a few washes, I took a closer look at them as they weren't washing as well either. I noticed the stamp on the back of the new ones says 18/8 not 18/10. I am not as pleased with the new sets and am very disappointed that companies keep selling this product as 18/10 when it is not.

Pros:

1) dishwasher friendly

2) scratch resistant (for the most part but don't scrub the life out of it!)

3) great for everyday use, but stylish enough for formal entertaining

4) the knives are sufficiently sharp for most meat dishes

Cons:

1) they hold heat extremely well, so watch yourself after they've been run through the d/w or been accidentally left in a pan that you're stiring

2) if you eat spaghetti like a true Italian (which I'm not, but I still eat this way), and wind your noodles around your fork by using a spoon, here's a word of warning: The spoons' bowls get scratched by the fork tines too easily and you end up with a dull-looking finish (otherwise, this set is very scratch resistant, as mentioned above). To minimize this, just use the same spoon everytime you need to use one for this function you will unfortunately be able to tell which one you've used before.

Overall, we are very statisfied with this set as a whole. They have gotten daily use for the last 2 1/2 years and have served us well. Even the specialized serving pieces (sold separately)get frequent use.

My husband and I purchased a set of Studio by Gorham flatware four years ago. We considered many brands and styles at the time and decided that we wanted to buy one set that would do double duty for everyday use and for entertaining. I think we made a wise purchase. This flatware has a pleasant heft to it, and by that I mean all of the pieces, not just the knives. The pieces are also well balanced so that they are comfortable in the hand, and the narrow neck which tapers to a wide handle is very elegant. My only slight complaint is that the finish is highly polished, and over time it has become scratched, however, I consider that only a minor flaw since any set of flatware will show wear. I am very pleased with this set, and I think it was one of the best purchases we made when we got married.

This flatware is really nice looking, and it seems to have a good quality. We got them 3 months ago (put them in our wedding registry after analyzing all kinds of flatware) and after a couple times we put it in the dishwasher the knives started to spot with rust. That's pretty disappointing since they said they were "dishwasher safe".

I have searched for this style of flatware for years and there is a reason you can only find it here. It's nowhere near the same quality as my original set purchased in 1998. The weight is very light the old set feels substantial in the hand this feels cheap. It still looks good and feels smooth in the hand no rough edges. The stamp is different. On the original spoon it is stamped into the steel on the handle, the new set it is on the back of the spoon in an ink. It also says Vietnam instead of Japan.

The shipment arrived fine except that the person who sold it obviously smoked cigarettes as the box and packing material stink of it. I haven't decided what I'm going to do. I need more pieces for the holidays. Maybe it's time to find a new flatware and begin to retire this set. My original set has held up beautifully but I don't think these pieces will.

Victorinox Wavy Edge Utility Knife with 4-3/4" Blade

Victorinox Wavy Edge Utility Knife with 4-3/4' BladeThis knife is an great all around kitchen knife.....small enough that it can be used for a paring knife and large enough for a lot of other jobs too. Small handle fits my hands very well. I have used this knife for 10 years in my kitchen and would not be without it. I would recommend this produce to anyone.

Purchased a cheaper set of knives, used them a couple of time and threw them away. Purchased these Forschner steak knives on the rating of Cook's Illustrated. Excellent product.

Shappu 2000 Stainless Steel Professional Cutlery Set, 10-Piece

Shappu 2000 Stainless Steel Professional Cutlery Set, 10-PieceThe moment I opened the box and held one of these knives I thought they were flimsy but I shrugged it off and didn't think much of it, 2 days later the first steak knife broke by a week after we got this set we had lost two more. It's only a matter of time before they all break so do yourself a favor spend a little more on a set that will last longer then a month.

These knives are a joke! They are so bad in quality you are unable to cut anything! It actually becomes very dangerous to use them because the blade is soooo thin it flops all over when you're cutting. The first (and last) time I used one was cutting cabbage and the knife kept sliding off the cabbage because it wasn't strong enough to cut through. Very dangerous! Do NOT waste your money!!

this is a good bargain knife set, not very durable but who cares you will use it for a few years.

I did not expect to get a quality for $4. I consider my $4 as a donation to keep USPS in business. 3 of them broke first day my wife tried to cut an apple. Don't understand the word professional in the description. They did not say what profession they meant. They are sharp and that makes them even more dangerous when the handles brake away. Don't waste your $4 or more if you get hurt.
