These are amazing steak knives and cut effortlessly, even my children use them effortlessly. They are very sharp and stay sharp and cut through the toughest cuts of meat easily. I sometimes use them for prep work on vegetables as well. Sturdy and well made.

My brother gave us the 8 piece block and the set of steak knives last year for Christmas. They are the best brand out there. But very sharp, so be careful. Victorinox 48042 Cutlery 3-Piece Paring Knife Set

I almost didn't buy this set because I figured I'd have no use for a gimmicky curved knife and a serrated blade, I only wanted the normal paring knife, but the set was only a little bit more expensive than an individual paring knife. As it turns out I use the curved knife more than any other knife I own, and the serrated one more than the normal paring knifeI was fully prepared to hide those two knives in the back of my drawer and never look at them again, but they are really great. I'm sure you can get better knives somewhere, but not at anything remotely close to this price. I am pretty picky about knives, and Forschner's are definitely the best I have used. I also strongly recommend the 8 inch chefs knife. I guess the best way to sum up my feelings about these (and the 8 inch chef's knife) is that I would have happily paid 4 or 5 times what they cost.

I've ordered this set and other Foschner knives and I highly recommend them.

They are reasonably priced, keep their edge, and are balanced.

I think they are better than my high-priced, over-rated Henckels knives.

It's great to find a reasonably-priced quality product.

I purchased these on somewhat of a whim as my older paring knives were getting worn. They have quickly become the first knives I reach for. The varied selection fulfill most of my daily needs. The standard paring knife included here is wonderful. It's thin, lightweight, flexible, and sharp. It slides through vegetables as easily as it does through butter. It neatly conforms to the contours of what you're cutting, if you so desire. I cored some tomatoes last night, and didn't have any issues. Great, too, for mincing garlic.

Honestly, I haven't really found much use for the other two knives in this package, as they're specialty knives, and I don't do a whole lot of the peeling which they're useful for. The normal paring knife is fine for most non-peeling sorts of tasks.

But, for $10, you're not going to find a better paring knife. The only way you're going to get something better is to spend four or five times as much, and I'd rather just buy a new one of these every few years (under heavy use). (As another reviewer said, they're quite thin, so sharpening would be a pain -I haven't had to do so, yet.)

I had purchased 100 spoons, also 100 each of the knives and forks. At first I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and the look of them, they looked like real silver! I am using these for my backyard wedding and was super excited to see these as an option. Once I began rolling these up into bundles with napkins individually, I was able to see each one. The forks and knives are all great! The spoons however, have many black splotches on them where there is no silver, not that it had flaked off, but it was smooth, like it came from the manufacturer that way. Also, I had noticed that several packages in the shipping box were opened. I thought maybe they came undone during shipping. When I was finished, I was missing one spoon! I had ordered exactly 100 and only got 99 spoons! I looked in the box, nowhere to be found. I am disappointed with the care the shipper gave these. Won't order them again.

I keep these KitchenAid Shears handy whenever I'm in the kitchen. They are sharp, have a comfortable grip and cut easily. They clean up quickly too. I use them mainly for non-food items. The point at the tip makes it simple to push through plastic, such as if you are cutting open a tray of fresh ravioli. I also use them to cut open chips, cereal or Clif Bar wrappers that won't easily pull open or I don't want to risk making a tear down the side of the bag.

When I do use these shears for food items, it's usually to cut things like quesadilla or a sandwich. It works just as well as a knife as long as there's not too much filling between the tortillas or bread. I also use them to cut garlic bread. It works like a charm.

Epicurean Gourmet Cutting Board with Juice Groove

This is an excellent cutting board. It's nice to have a large board with a juice groove that is dishwasher safe. I prefer wood for cutting non-bacterial stuff like produce, but this is perfect for things like poultry. I also used it to carve a rotisserre chicken, and was quite pleased. The one minor flaw is that I have a granite countertop, and unless I place a towel underneath it slides a little if I'm doing some serious chopping. But as it's meant to be usable on two sides, I don't mind very much.

The board is very light for its size and appears to be quite durable. And it's easy to clean.

But it has a very hard feel--more like cutting on glass or granite than on a traditional wood or plastic board. If you do any chopping, it sounds like machine gun fire. And if you do slicing/rocking with a curved chef's knife, it's still has a pretty harsh feel. I still haven't used it long enough to judge whether it really doesn't dull knives any faster than wood--but I have doubts, given how it feels.

Also, out of the box it had a horrible smell--like a wet dog wearing a wet wool sweater. But after a run through the dishwasher, it went away. Not sure if it will ever reappear (tho I note that Cook's Illustrated described the device as having a bad, lasting odor).

I've had this slate w/ black juice groove board in the 13 x 18 size for 2 years now. It is our only cutting board and we use it for cutting meat, veggies, and bread. Really, it had only the faintest of cutting marks on it up until a month or so ago. It was at that time a month ago that I started using a heavy meat cleaver to hack through turkey necks for our dogs' raw diet. Yes, it's showing considerable marks from hacking apart over 50 pounds of turkey necks with that meat cleaver, as you might have guessed.

It has no stains on it, though I suppose we don't really cut anything on it that would stain it, but I thought it worth mentioning that it hasn't discolored at all. It is a bit of a hassle to store it in our cupboards so we leave it out all the time, propped up on our counter. When we first got it I washed it a few times in the dishwasher but it does take up quite a bit of space so now we just give it a quick wash in the sink, easy breezy.

It still is a handsome cutting board even with those meat cleaver hacks and we'll continue to use it.

**UPDATE** Well, when I used the meat cleaver to cut apart 50 lbs of turkey necks with this cutting board, it survived. The same can't be said when my husband helped me out by hacking apart 30 lbs of turkey necks for our dogs' raw diet... he can swing the cleaver a lot harder than I can to cut through a turkey neck in one swing. The cutting board has met its end, the top layer has been chopped and marked up enough that it has peeled up, revealing a composite-type material underneath the pretty exterior. We'll continue to use this cutting board for raw turkey necks but we had to get a new cutting board for other tasks. So, to make a long story short, don't bring a meat cleaver down hard repeatedly upon this Epicurean cutting board. Yes, we should have known better. :)

Sharp looking cutting board, especially for those with black or dark countertops. I bought two and leave them out. They look best when oiled occassionally. This size is too big for the dishwasher, but it gets washed after every use anyway.

The board is a bit slippery, so I put 4 silicome dot feet on the juice groove side. I normally use the flat side because it is easier to slide chopped food off into the pot that way.

The board is noisy when you chop.

I've read other comments from the other Epicurean cutting surfaces reviewed here. Most give this product high praises...and a handfull do not.

I like it, so far (two weeks at the time of this writing)...haven't had issues with marks or gouges, or an odd odor or warping as experienced by some. My theory (at least with minimizing marks/gouges) is that you need to have sharp knives when cutting/chopping your food on this product. The knife is supposed to do all the work, with minimal effort on your part. If you work through your food with ease, you minimize your forcing through the food, and thus avoid digging into your board. Look for a professional knife sharpening service and have your knives sharpened on occasion.

Wallace 5086468 45-Piece Continental Hammer Flatware Set

This set is an excellent alternative to Reed & Barton's Hammered Antique which costs 4 to 5 times more!! Really, this was a great deal!! This set by Wallace is also 18/10 stainless just like the Hammered Antique! The quality looks pretty much equal. And after making a comprehensive, detailed comparison, we went with this Wallace Continental Hammered because we liked the larger, continental style Soup/place spoons. And, we liked the price of $72.44 with Free Shipping from Amazon-can't beat it!!

The larger set, service for 12 is not 18/10-it's 18/0 and not as heavy and there were a few negative complaints about that. So, stick with this set....service for 8.

First, I should say we wanted to get a complete set of flatware for our anniversary. So we looked around, 10-12 stores at least. Macy's and similar, Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl's etc. Not looking to spend $10k on real silver-ware but we can afford more than $30 at W-mart. We spent about 4 weeks before choosing this set (x2). So this was a serious choice we put some effort into. We wanted a whole matching set to keep for many years.

So early on we found we had to try and see if there was still a reputable manufacturer that didn't just ship junk in from overseas. The problem seems to be so many sets made overseas have started having quality issues in the last 5-10 years. It seems all brands that were originally manufactured in the US/Europe are made in Asia to varying standards. I am sure cost-cutting is a big problem for many companies, it's not just this category item. I saw people reported online getting the same setup from the same company a few years apart and they got very different results. Many buyers left reviews about rust and other problems on most sets we looked at in the stores. We expect for $60-100 a set of "stainless steel" flatware they they are not going to start rusting in 3-6 months. We had gotten some (cheap) pairing knives, 100% stainless (blade and handle) and seen rust spots after a few months I said maybe that is okay for a pairing knife but it would be unacceptable for our regular silverware.

The other problem was finding something we could both agree on. We saw two sets of the hammered style, and we both liked those well enough. BB&Beyond has pieces out where you can handle them. The feel in the hand is important. I liked one hammered set as the pieces were heavier and comfortable. Reviews on the store set were mixed however, with rusting on the two-piece knives an issue apparently. The sets we looked had review that were only 50-60% positive. So we had a style, we just had to find the best maker.

Wallace looks like a higher-end manufacturer, part of a family of flatware companies. The top-level Wallace items are $10,000+ silver sets online if you want to lookso I was reassured this wasn't a cheap company that has just popped up or is a "store brand" that changes factories every year. So that matched our desire to avoid a low quality company. Macy's website had this set (with some good pictures) but the 2-3 Macy's we checked locally did not have Continental Hammer. We did get to look at other Wallace sets, and they looked quite nice.

We ordered 2 sets of 8. Several pieces were slightly scratched or scuffed, only one really badly enough to worry about. The hammered effect is well done, better than others we saw in stores. The handle is flat (not shiny) and the 'business-end' is highly chromed and very shiny. We think the pieces are very nice looking. We find the handles comfortable enough to hold and usewith a narrow neck and wide tail.

The other reviews online for this set had some comments that I noticed, and I can confirm them as issues for us as well.

First, the flatware is all printed (not stamped or indented) with Wallace, China, 'c' and 'r' marks in black "ink". On the forks and spoons it is on the back side (no big deal). On the knives it is on one side, mid-way on the blade. Quite noticeable and detracting from the appearance. It looks tacky and cheap. I tell myself it may be better then imprinted/indented which possibly harbors bacteria long term. It's only a minor annoyance for me.

Second, the handles are thin, not as thick as other hammered styles we saw. This makes these pieces somewhat lighter. This was a slight disappointment, since there was no way to judge weight from looking at it online. We decided we could live with it. A full set of 5 (large and small spoons and forks, and one knife) weigh in at 9.7 oz on my postal scale. The knife has a nice, thick rounded hollow handle and is a single cast piece (no seams to rust).

Third, if you are not sure what the "Continental" part of the name iswell, it's not just a flowery adjective. It means "European size" and by that I mean REALLY LARGE on the large items. NOT standard size, which may take a little getting used to or may make this more appealing to some buyers. I have seen these sizes in Europe too, so it's not a made up term. Some people might say ridiculously large, though. I will upload a photo with a penny in the large spoon. It's not a problem for us, but it could be for some folks. The wife and daughter only use the small spoons, but that was true when we previously had "normal size" flatware. The old standard spoons setting inside these Continental ones showed 10-20% more "spoon surface area".

Fourth, and most importantly is durability of the finish, or lack of it. Within a month we can see minor scratches and scuffs turning up on some pieces. These are easy to see because the surface it so shiny, these are not marks you would otherwise notice on flat/matte surfaces. Like a little watermark smudge you can't wipe off. We think that at this rate after a few years all the pieces will be scratched and scuffed to the point that we may have to consider replacing them. Most likely they will still be functional, but less attractive. We will see, I may come back and update the comment after 6 months. I think the "instructions" that came with the set mentioned placing them carefully in the dishwasher to they were not scratched. Our dishwasher has a cover kind of thing over the flatware compartmentsort of like a loose peg-board arrangement of slots where you drop each piece in and it is held apart from the other pieces. I guess it's possible in theory the dishwasher is blasting the water so hard the flatware is banging around the getting scratched against each other. However, as the pieces are not changing their orientation and we can't hear any clinking (from an ultra-quiet washer) I kind of doubt it. However we may try and isolate pieces to see if it helps any. Other buyers complained online of the same and I wondered if they were being super-picky. It appears not. No small children, we are not being rough on the pieces, just what I would consider normal use.

The chrome finish looks nice when it is cleanso I AM being picky in wanting to take a microfiber cloth and wiping these off after they come out of the washer. Just so there are no streaks or water smudges on them. Mostly on the knives. It takes a few moments, but I only mention it as I can guess some people might be put off by the appearance of the watermarks. (and yes, perfectly clean clothI am sure I'm not introducing those scratches I mentioned). ;)

Overall, I will rate these a 4. I want to say 3 to mark down for the minor issuesbut if I am honest in comparing them to the other hammered sets we looked closely at the Wallace set is still much better. Some room for improvement in the weight and finish durability perhaps, but we are happy with our selection.

In doing my research I discovered that there is a huge difference between flatware rated 18/0 (which my RV flatware was) and 18/10 (which my household flatware was). MIU France Forged Stainless Steel Santoku Knife, 7-Inch

Perfect size for my uses. Takes a very sharp edge, but requires frequent sharpening. I don't really mind, since this takes only a few seconds before each use. I would also prefer the handle to be a little thicker, but at this price point, I would rate it as an excellent value and have recommended it to friends.

I received this knife free with the purchase of a Chef's Choice sharpener from a different seller (sans guard). It is actually a pretty good knife. It is fairly well balanced and is solidly built. It came with a very good edge and passed the "tomato test" with flying colors. The handle is a bit small for my ham hands, but on par with many more expensive knives. I haven't had it long enough to tell how well it holds an edge. one interesting note: it is only beveled on one side.

As the title says, this will be a good back up to my everyday knife, a Wustof Santoku. It would also be good as part of a starter set for someone setting up housekeeping for the first time. The name of the knife/manufacturer is a bit misleading, tho. As you might guess for a knife at this price point, it has nothing to do with France, but is made in China.

Wusthof Classic Ikon 22-Piece Block Knife Set

held several versions of the ikon series (classic, supreme, etc.) and found the ikon classic to be the most comfortable to hold in the hand. The synthetic rounded edge is in my opinion much better to grip that the ikon, ikon supreme(cutleryandmore website). Even though I would never wash these knives in any way other than by hand, you just never know if one will end up in the dishwaser by mistake and the wood handles on the ikon would take a beating. The ikon classic and ikon supreme would survive the mistake.Given that, I would never willingly put them in the dishwasher

When we got married, we received some very nice Guy Degrenne cutlery, and we were at a loss as to how to store it in a drawer in our kitchen (we didn't want a chest), yet still have it organized in stacks so that the pieces didn't scratch each other. ForkChops Set of Six, Black

I've always used chopsticks, and was interested to find this unique twist to the item. They are made of plastic, which try as I might to picture otherwise, always made them feel really cheap and disposable. The top of the chopsticks where the fork and knife are would constantly bump into each other when in use as chopsticks, unless positioned just right with the widths of the knife and fork running parallel to each other. The fork and knife themselves didn't work well for me. The plastic was just too thick for them to really be effective utensils in and of themselves. If anything, I used the knife tip to shovel a few loose pieces of rice and sauce in some direction, but could hardly use it to actually cut anything. Pieces of food I pierced with my fork would not be picked up. They would have holes poked in them, but I could not get the fork to pick it up (the plastic is slippery and the food just slides right off). I could poke holes in food much easier with the chopstick end if that was all I wished to do.

Overall, fun item to look at and a novelty gift (I will probably make a random gift of leftover unused pairs), but not very efficient for purposes of eating. I would rather stick with the traditional chopstick.

Not buying this item for myself, I thought that a shorter blade would be good. Apparently I doesn't let you get all the way inside a larger oyster. The protective sheild however is a great idea. It is very sturdy and the grip very helpful to keep from slipping. Unfortunatley the owner may not get much use out of it because the blade is too short. This might be best used on clams....

I bought this set to add to the service for 8 that I already owned. I am very pleased with the shapes and sizes of each piece, as well as their heavy weight and excellent quality. The hammered-finish handles are comfortable to hold and go well with almost every decor. I wash them using Finish tabs in the dishwasher, and all the pieces come out perfectly clean and shiny, except for occasional spotting on one or two knife blades. Highly recommended.

this was purchased as a gift. i have one and it is a wonderful go-to knife for the kitchen when slicing meat is required. Smooth and precise.

I realize that the length of this knife is provided in its specifications but I guess I didn't pay attention. It doesn't fit in my Wusthof knifeblock and is scary long. A fine knife otherwise.

Dalla Piazza Lustro Oyster Knife #D1029

My mom loves oyster, so one of her gift was an oyster knife to replace her old one. We gave it to her with a pair of gloves and two-dozen small/medium oysters. Sadly we only opened 2-3 with it.

I have opened Oysters for our large family for every holidays as far as I can remember.

Pro: The design looks good, and I like the safety plates in case you slip

Con: the stainless blade is too thick and end of it is too dull. We could not insert it in the small/medium Oyster.

May be it works better for the large oyster, but if you like small and medium oysters, find a knife that has a thin blade made of hardened steel.
