A friend gave me this knife as a gift knowing I enjoy cooking. I liked the weight and grip right away when I first picked it up. I sliced ripe tomatoes thin and quick with ease, green peppers in strips with no crushing. I also made some cinnamon rolls and was surprised when I went to cut the rolled dough that the blade easily cut through the roll without sticking. I usually have to wet and wipe down the blade a number of times when cutting the dough. I would definitely recommend this knife for general kitchen slicing and chopping use.Mercer Millenia M22707 7-Inch Santoku Knife

I really like these pasta bowls. They are heavy weight and I use them for everything, including pasta. I would have rated them with five stars but they chip rather easily and I'm going to have to replace two of them shortly. I still recommend them, but handle with care. These versatile items gets used over and over at my house. We eat a lot of one dish pastas or salads, and these look great on a set table or work simply on one's lap while sofa dining in front of the TV. It seems we've gone through a lot of pasta bowls over the years, but these tough workhorses are built to last, and judging from the way they're holding up under a lot of use, I do believe they'll be the last I'll need to purchase. Well worth the extra cost.Buy Le Creuset Stoneware 9 3/4" Pasta Bowl, White Now

Trudeau Stainless Steel Grapefruit 5-Piece Set, Yellow
The knife is terrific. One end has two parallel blades, serrated and sharp, with a small gap in between. You position this over a radial membrane to quickly and easily separate the grapefruit from both sides of the membrane. After zipping down each membrane, you can efficiently slide the knife's curved other end around the circumference of the grapefruit. Voila! The spoons are nothing special. They're OK, but don't win any style points.
This would earn five stars if the spoons were nicer than diner-quality.Grapefruit knives and spoons are very difficult to find. Amazon helped me find them, and the company they suggested fulfilled the order just as they said they would. The spoons and knife are of good quality, and the knife especially makes grapefruit easier to cut and eat. I would recommend this set for purchase. It is a good value for the money.

This set was made poorly. The spoons and the knife have a raw metal edge that has not been finished, was made cheaply and poorly. We could not use the spoons as they gave a strong metallic taste in your mouth. At first I thought the design of the knife was smart, but found that although the curved side of the knife works well for cutting around the edge of the grapefruit, the straight side of the knife, meant for cutting sections, is actually a double knife and it ends up massacring the grapefruit. I actually cut off one of the double knives and now it works ok.we had to throw out the spoons, the knife also has a raw metal edge that catches and does not cut cleanly or smoothly. Not worth the purchase!

The spoons work very well and are solid. The knife is great but the spoons can be used well even without the knife. The Ultimate Edge Model 10W Gourmet 10-Inch Oval Diamond Sharpening Steel
Cook's Illustrated rated this sharpening steel as the best, and I think they're absolutely correct! I have used this steel regularly for the past year or two, and my knives have never come close to staying this sharp before... It's awesome! After months upon months of researching reviews and articles on every knife sharpener and method to keep kitchen knives sharp, I happened upon a review for diamond steels that made sense to me. Again, more research to determine any differences among diamond steels -other than price. I chose this Ultimate Edge Model 10W . . . and I'm very happy with my selection. My Wusthof knives have an easily-achieved, very sharp edge again. Since I was already comfortable using a steel, switching to a diamond steel was easy. Albeit, I do use the diamond steel more slowly, keeping my knife blade at the recommended angle, and I use it only when necessary. I still use my regular steel whenever I pick up a knife to do a cutting task. The only -minor -concern I have is that this diamond steel has a plastic handle that may not last for many years, although it seems sturdy.
Bottom line, this is a relatively inexpensive way to sharpen my knives without the damage that a bad electric sharpener can do. I'm pleased and would recommend using a diamond steel to anyone with expensive knives and concerns about keeping them sharp.

Kuhn-Rikon Kulu Herb and Vegetable Knife
Because I love my first Kuhn-Rikon Kulu Vegetable Knife so much, I ordered this one as a gift for my daughter. This knife is very versatile I especially like it for cutting salad vegetables. I frequently use bagged salads, so I just dump the bag's contents into a big bowl, and then rock my blade through the lettuce and stuff a few times. Voila bite-size pieces! The blade, which is super sharp, is very easy to clean. Some reviewers found the curved tool difficult to use, but I think it's quite easy. My arthritic fingers can easily and painlessly use this wonderful knife. With this, an onion slices perfectly, and my eyes don't tear because I don't saw back and forth releasing onion fumes into the air. I also use it to trim and slice meats for wok-cooking. It is a great invention and the low price is a pleasant surprise.Portmeirion Botanic Garden 45-Piece Flatware Set

First off these utensils are way to big and clunky to the point if you have plates that are a standard size, it will look like a joke. Yes they are big and shiny but that's all you are getting for the money. The edges are rough and the pattern is indistinct. Good flatware has smooth rounded edges but this is not good flatware and the edges are rough. This item is cheap, big, and shiny and people will like that I guess and well it seems to be working. What more can I say. I wanted a "continental" style (larger, longer pieces), buy didn't like most of the patterns. I have colored dishes (not portmeiron) completely covered with flowers. These look great with it. The detail oon the handles is beautiful, good weight, very shiny. Bought for every day, but definitely usable with fine china.Don't be afraid if you don't have their dishes!
Stainless Steel Lobster Seafood Fork, Set of 4
I love these things. They're exactly what I needed for cracking crab legs. I typically use the forks provided in the restaurant, but end up twisting them up in the process... and they don't work nearly as well as these forks do! The nice thing about these is the serrated tines, which make speedy work of opening up the leg. They're sturdy, too.
Well worth the price!

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Profection 8-Inch Bread Knife
Best knives I've ever used, and I was a professional cook/saucier for almost fifteen years. I've used almost every make Forschner, Dick, Shun, and three different Henckels series, and the Profection knives are the best designed and very well made.Weight, balance, finish, are all exactly right for my hand; the new bolster shape makes sharpening the full length easy, and the thick back provides better stability over long use. This is the 'bread slicer,' but it's also great for cutting up fish, frozen food, and cutting through bone.WELL DONE!
Fagor Michelle B. 3-Piece Prep Cutlery Set
Over all, I'm happy but not thrilled with these knives. They are reasonably sharp, but not super sharp. The color looks like the photo online, which is good, since I love that color. These knives are slightly smaller than I would like if these knives were slightly longer, I would like them more. My main complaint however is that the blade covers do not fit snuggly nor consistently. The covers fit adequately on two of the three knives (not snug, but adequate), but the cover is very loose on the other one. It is so loose that if I pick the knife up out of the drawer, the cover will fall off of its own accord. Not a great safety feature in my opinion. I thought I would use these knives more often for slicing fruit and vegetables, but I wind up using my large Oneida knife 90% of the time, even for smaller jobs like fruit. That is probably because the Oneida knife is sharper and also because, if the fruit or veggie does wiggle a little bit, the knife is still long enough to do the job. In the future, I will probably pay a little more for one knife that is the same size or slightly larger than the largest knife in this set, rather than rely on this set of knives.I have purchased 2 of these sets. Like it so much I bought another for a gift. Excellent quality for the price.Buy Fagor Michelle B. 3-Piece Prep Cutlery Set Now

I guess I was expecting too much from an inexpensive knife set. These really disappointed me. One of the three knives actually felt sharp, the other two were dull feeling right out of the package. They feel cheap. The color is nice, but I think I actually would have preferred if the blade had been a different color than the handle.I was looking for a few sheathed prep knives that had a non-stick resin coating on the blades. I also didn't want to pay Kuhn Rikon prices. I am a fan of Michelle Bernstein, and have found Fagor to make quality utensils and cookware, so I thought I would give these a try. The quality was good for the price. The handles were light but comfortable, and felt as though they had some kind of non-slip coating, though I could be wrong about that. I especially liked the santoku. However, I returned the set because the utility knife was only partially serrated. I had plannned to use it to cut breads, so this was a big flaw.Victorinox 47513 6-Inch Flex Boning Knife with Fibrox Handle
Do yourself a favor, buy one of these knives and start breaking down your own chickens. If you took apart just 2 whole chickens yourself as opposed to buying pieces at the store, this knife will pay for itself. If you enjoy cooking, it's a rewarding experience and you can use the carcass for homemade stock.I'm not trained or a professional cook I bought this knife after reading the America's Test Kitchen review and began buying whole chickens. After watching a few youtube videos (Andrew Zimmern's is my favorite), I grabbed my new knife and successfully took a chicken apart. After my second try, the breasts I removed look even better than the premium quality packaged breast meat from the supermarket.
The handle is large and textured so even when wet, the knife is easy to hold. The slight flex lets you work the knife up against bones and get the most meat off. The blade arrived sharp and is easily sharpened. It's the perfect tool for breaking down chickens, de-boning, fileting, and also removing silverskin from tenderloins and flank steak.
Fantastic product, one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. Don't buy an expensive forged boning knife!I am a hunter and I process the game I take myself. This boning knife was just what I needed to speed the process along. I recently processed a 100 lb. hog. The knife was flexible and narrow which allowed me to get the most from the bone. The handle was easy to grip. The blade held a good edge through the entire hog, I did not need to stop and steel the blade.
I used it the following week to process a deer with the same good experience.
At this great price how can you go wrong.

America's Test Kitchen recommended this boning knife and they were right. This knife is sharp straight out of the package. I used it the first time to cut the silver skin from some beef and it was so easy using this knife. The sharp point and long thin blade enabled me to get right under the silver skin and I did not cut into the meat itself. I was able to cut neatly and precisely where I wanted to due to the comfortable handle and sharp blade. Why pay a fortune for a boning knife when this one gets the job done quick and neat. Good job America's Test Kitchen and thanks R H Forschner for making another affordable but quality product.Read Best Reviews of Victorinox 47513 6-Inch Flex Boning Knife with Fibrox Handle Here
Had I known it was possible to fall in love with a set of knives, I would have given up my eharmony membership long ago. (Just kidding) I have a set of Calphalon Contemporary knives and thought they were great. After reading an online review at a reputable cooking site however, I bought this set for a friend. (Price to quality ratio was well-reviewed) OMG, everything you cut is like butta (except for butter itself which is like watta) Whether you buy the set or just the pieces you need, I cannot recommend these knives enough.Oh, and though I love them to much to do so, I believe they are dishwasher safe.

First, being a bit of a traditionalist, I much prefer a solidly crafted forged blade to a stamped one. But this knife was highly recommended by Cook's Illustrated, along with a number of other knives in this line. I was curious to see if such an inexpensive line of knives could compete with the very expensive knives which I am used to using. Since I was in the market for a boning knife I decided to order this knife to evaluate the Victorinox line. While it will vary from person to person, I find the handle slightly uncomfortable to hold. It seems a little bulky, especially for the application. On the other hand, the blade appears to be very well suited to the task at hand, and this may be an application in which a heavier forged blade is at some disadvantage. The blade is flexible, but not overly so. Initial sharpness is good, as is the blade shape. It has a good sharp tip for piercing silver skin.
I have only had this knife for a short time, and I look forward to seeing how it will hold up. Will it hold its edge? Will the tip break when it hits one bone too many? Will I ever get used to the clunky feeling handle? Time will tell, and I will share these things here as I learn them. But at this point I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for an inexpensive but effective boning knife. Over time I plan to try the rest of the knives in this line. It will be interesting to see if I can replace a $2000 set of knives with a $200 set and be happy with the change.
While I will never lose my love of the beauty and craftsmanship of a set of fine forged knives, Victorinox/Forschner is offering an interesting practical alternative to the "work of art" knives we have grown to love. Interestingly, All Clad cookware is facing a similar challenge from low cost multi-ply cookware.

This is the perfect silverware set. I looked at several different sets and this one won out. It has slender but balanced handles so 2 sets fit nicely in my silverware drawer. This is the first one star review I've written. I was so excited to buy new flatware. Reed and Barton is a well known brand. We still have the hammered antique 18/8 from 20 years ago when we got married and I still love it so I thought I could trust the brand. I wanted an every day set and thought this was nice and the price was great. I didn't expect the quality of the more expensive end of the line and I don't have a problem with the lighter weight. Opening the box I thought that the tines of the forks looked pretty delicate but that didn't bother me so much. I washed them all at once before using them and as I gathered a small bunch to rinse, I got a fairly deep slash on my finger! It was not from the knife so it could only be from a fork. Examining the forks more closely (and I did not check each fork but checked a bunch) I ran my fingers along the tines at different angles and found they have a sharp edge that can catch skin. What? A fork that you put in your mouth that has parts that cut? That is unacceptable by any standards. I was so looking forward to having this set but this flaw is too disappointing. Of course I can not recommend this line. In fact, unfortunately, the opposite. I recommend that you look for something else.Edit: I want to note that I wrote Reed and Barton and their response was very fast and helpful. I'll edit this review when safe forks replace the cutting forks.
Edit 2: The company could not replace the forks and I was asked to pick a new pattern. I chose to upgrade to a heavier pattern and we love it. Kudos to Reed and Barton for standing behind their product. I still give this set a low rating but R & B gets five stars.

BergHOFF 7-Piece Forged Knife Block Set
I just got these knives yesterday, so these are mainly my initial impressions. The packaging is not that great. I don't know if most knife sets come like this, but I was a little surprised. Everything was wrapped in cheap plastic and had some manufacturing residue on it. The block had bits of glue in random spots that had to be cleaned off. I cleaned the block and washed all the knives and everything looks good. There are a few hairline scratches on one or two knives, nothing major. On each knife, it says X30Cr14 which I believe has something to do with Chromium. It also says "D10", "Rostfrei", "BergHOFF", and gives the length. I can't tell where these knives are made. I looked all over the packaging to no avail. BergHOFF is a Belgian company so take that for what it's worth. I even looked on their website and there is no real info I could find. The knives are solid and heavy feeling. With the counter balance they are a pleasure to hold. You can hold the knife with one finger. Just put the finger on the bottom near the middle of the handle (right side up) and it will balance nicely. They come nice and sharp, but make sure you have a way to sharpen them since there is no steel. I'm not an expert on knives so I can't tell the difference, but these are forged, not stamped. Berghoff recommends that these be hand washed. I'll update this review with cutting performance and durability later.
Overall, these are some very nice knives, and I recommend them.As soon as I held the first knife I was so very impressed with the ergonomic and balanced handle. I just received them today and will use for the first time tonight ... will follow up on how they perform. From the feel and visual inspection, I anticipate an very good experience. Can't wait!
I consider myself a pretty accomplished cook and have used good quality level J.A. Henkels for years and also have a set of Miricale Knives(yuck!) that will go to charity. The Henkels have served their purpose, but they don't keep the edge and I can't stand to use serrated knives for every day prepping ~ I feel like I'm ripping or tearing whatever I'm cutting, instead of slicing through. And, the Henkels handles are not ergonomic ~ the BergHOFF fits like a glove.

It comes with 6 pieces plus the block and it looks great on counter.
Some of the knifes are a bit heavy so when handling some of the bigger knifes it may resemble a workout.
Also the scissors are a great addition however the clasp is not guaranteed to stay locked and I would much rather prefer a sharpening tool.
Expandable Drawer Organizer-Trays
It was worth the price. The wood is nice enough. The dimensions are inaccurate, however: it is actually 14.5 inches deep not 11.5 as featured. I purchased it because it was for a drawer that is only 12 inches deep. I am able to use it in another drawer, so all ends well. The construction method involved the use of staples that promptly popped out after a little stress so I hammered in a couple of fine finishing nails to replace them and it works just fine. Not designed for heavier flatware. Expansion feature is nice. After some finishing nails and a little wood glue we are good to go. It is now a permanent drawer divider though.Buy Expandable Drawer Organizer-Trays Now

I actually love this knife. When it got here it was a lot bigger than I expected (evidently I don't actually know how big ten inches is) but it works great. It is amazing how much easier it is for me to cut and chop with a knife that actually holds and edge.Usually buy Wusthof but their 10 inch chefs are $$$$ so I trolled for something more reasonable considering that this would not be used as an everyday, line chef knife.Has good balance. Personally, would like a little more weight but I admittedly prefer heavy. Most do not? Very sharp out of the box.
Chose Mundial based on $$, blade shape, and the red handle. Yes, the red handle. Blade has less belly than Wusthof but is not as triangular as Henckles. Overall quite satisfied.

I first became interested in finding out what was the green knife that Mario Batali had on ICA. Turns out to be a Sanelli legging type knife. I have lots of knives German and Japanese, stamped and forged, but I was looking for a long bread knife. Lets face it size matters when you want to slice your own bread, particularly my favorite 3 cheese miche from Panera. You really need a long blade to get the proper sawing action with control to cut the bread. The Sanelli 12.5 in blade is just the knife I was looking for. It has a long serrated blade, a very comfortable non-slip grip, similar, but possibly better than the Victorinox fibrox grip. I find that feature very important after I bought my Henckels five star knives which become very slippery if wet or dealing with something with fat like chicken. I bought the Henckels because the grip was comfortable, but I didn't foresee that the smoothness of the handle would be so slippery. While I haven't smeared chicken fat over the Sanelli, you can tell that grip is pretty secure.
I find with this knife its sure-handedness lets me make thin cuts on my loaves to as small as 1/4-3/8" without a loss of control. Hey it's one way to cut down on calories when you have a large loaf! LOL I do like the green and red handle, a bit flashy next to my other black-handled knives, but I know where to go right away to find my slicer. Plus if your kitchen table is cluttered most of the time as mine is, you can see where the knife is before getting nicked on the blade (ok, I know it should be left in the block, but I use it all the time. LOL)
Sure, its a stamped blade, but who really cares on a serrated knife anyway? When the time comes that it is dull, just get a new one! they are inexpensive enough. I don't expect that for some time since the blade is very sharp now. Frankly, after spending thousands of dollars over the years on Henckels and such, I find them not as serviceable as the Victorinox, or now this Sanelli. You are more often going to find a professional working with a more practical knife like these, rather than trophy case knives that are $100+
Props to unbeatablesale dot com for the quick delivery and the $15 coupon for leaving them feedback. So if you buy this knife be sure to leave feedback for the vendor its worth it! Maybe I'll get another one for leaving this too! LOL
Alligator 11-1/4-Inch Slicer
I'm a huge fan of the Alligator dicers and was eager to try this slicer, but I'm not entirely impressed. First of all, it's heavy and has more parts to clean than its cousins. The disassembly and reassembly for cleaning is a bit awkward and being a bit of a klutz in the kitchen and always in a hurry, I'm not sure I could avoid getting cut on those blades. It's pretty much impossible to get cut on the dicer blades, even though they are sharp, because of the small grid and ease of just rinsing the thing off. This unit is quite a bit more elaborate and both top and bottom sections have to be taken apart for cleaning, leaving the blades more exposed than I'd like. They are also set in a tier arrangement (like bleacher seats set on edge) which makes the slicing more effective, but handling less safe. That for me is the downside. On the upside, the unit slices most things really well. My first test was a tomato--a cruel test to start with :) but it passed with flying colors, cutting cleanly without squashing the tomato at all. You are limited in the size of tomato you can use if you want to slice a whole one, however, as the round grid is little more than 3" in diameter. Second test was a block of cheddar, something that is notoriously hard to slice evenly with a knife. This also sliced beautifully. I expected it to do a good job on things like carrots, zucchini, cucumbers and the like, and it did, but I'd be less inclined to use it for those things regularly because my beloved Microplane adjustable slicer works well for those too and I use the food processor for large quantities. Next test was a lime and although it did slice correctly, the juice squirted all over the place. It did eggs, strawberries and mushrooms perfectly, but that's to be expected. The only thing that didn't work was a ball of mozzarella, which got hopelessly squished and torn.
Bottom line, the product is well engineered (perhaps over-engineered) and very effective for some things, but needs a careful, patient hand for cleaning and the grid size does limit the amount of produce you can slice at one time.I bought this for my coworkers that I manage at a local Italian restaurant. My boss didn't seem as excited as I thought he would be (though he IS a penny-pincher), but the hostesses/salad girls loved it at first cus it really saved time slicing tomatoes when we're busy, now after using it for awhile and a little misuse of it slicing itself (people were not careful to slice straight down) it doesn't work nearly as well.

I bought this glove to use with my mandoline slicer, but now that I have it I use it with my microplane, other food graters, and sometimes when I have a lot of knife work to do I put in on my left hand while I slice, dice and chop with sharp knives in my right hand. I thought it might be a bit cumbersome, but it's not at all. I think it's important to remember that this glove is cut RESISTANT, not cut proof, so reasonable precautions should not be abandoned. The glove fits my hand very well, but I can see that it might be too small for others. I normally wear a woman's size small glove. This Microplane glove is quite flexible though, and I'm certain it would easily fit a woman's size medium or even large. One man's review here indicates he struggled but managed to get it on his bigger hand. I agree that it would be helpful if the manufacturer offered another one or two size options.
Obviously the glove will need cleaning after using it to hold food. While the glove is machine washable, it's not machine dryable. Here's what I do to clean the glove in between machines washings => with the glove still on my hand, I squeeze some dish soap onto it and then wash it under warm running water with the help of a small kitchen cleaning brush if needed. Then I rinse it, blot most of the water off with a hand towel, and let it air dry. I've had no problem with lingering odors using this or the machine method of washing.Although expensive, this glove is a time and hand saver! I use it regularly when slicing horizontally into onions, shallots, etc. to protect me from cuts when the knife blade slips. It also works great for protecting my fingers and fingernails when I grate cheese on a box grater. Using the Microplane glove means that I can grate gruyere right down to the rind and avoid nicking my fingers up or having nail polish chips getting into the food.

I bought one of these to provide some protection for my thumb when pushing odd-shaped vegetables through a v-slicer. I've maybe done this 6-7 times for a few minutes, very carefully. Good thing I watched what I was doing the glove is cut cleanly through part of the thumb. This is on a crappy home v-slicer, not on a piece of professional equipment or a ninja's sword or something. I think a leather driving glove would provide better protection.Essentially, this product is worthless. Unless you're concerned your fingers are too long.

I absolutly love this. I bought this to use with my mandolin. It's a piece of mind knowing that in case I slip with the guard, I have this glove as backup. I think in the near future I'll buy another glove for the othr hand, just in case I forget and do something stupid with the other hand! Getting cut is no picnic. For me it takes about a week to heal (minor cuts/no tendons involved) and doing my daily chores takes forever.Want Microplane 34007 Kitchen Cut-Protection Glove Discount?
I had the same bad experience as the reviewers who dealt with HTW. I did NOT receive the Microplane brand glove listed and described. Instead I received a different brand glove. Unfortunately I didn't do my research by reading the reviews for HTW before buying. If I had, I wouldn't have made the purchase. The one good thing was that the return process was fairly simple. Hopefully Amazon will make the proper adjustments with this product and seller.
