Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery Set

Cuisinart Kitchen Choice 17-Piece Stainless-Steel Forged Cutlery SetThis is a gorgeous knife set. I was really happy with the knives over all. However, they do rust easily. I do handwash and dry them, but still have rust spots on both the blades and handles. Rust spots have developed even when cleaning immediately after usewaiting causes more problems. I have used stainless cleaner, but have been unable to remove all the rust spots.

My husband and I bought this set of knives with money from our wedding and I LOVED them at first. It seemed like a great set of knives at a great price. Wrong. We havent even had them for 2 months and several of the knives already have several rust spots. The spots won't come off with anything. I have emailed cuisinart to see if this is covered under warranty.... no response. If notBed Bath & Beyond will take them back. Very disappointing.

Great cutlery set a must have in any kitchen! They are light weight with comfortable to hold handles! This set comes with two paring knives and a smaller set of siccors(that don't fit in block, not a problem for me but for some I know this would be a con). I haven't had any problems with rust and they sharpen up really nice with just a couple swipes on the sharpening rod! We do not put them in the dishwasher and wash them all by hand, being as that none of them are sariated it makes cleaning them a sinch.

We enjoy our set so much we bought a set for our parents as a Christmas gift.

I would give 0 stars if possible. I received this as a wedding present from my cousin, from my wedding list in amazon. I picked them, and I loved them at first, they are suposed to be STAINLESS STEEL, but no... I just received them 3 months ago and the rust is almost fully covering some of them, it's a shame cause they're really sharp, but I'll have to throw them away :(, I wonder if I can get a refund from amazon or a change...

I received this as a gift and had I received the receipt with it, these would be going back. I've been using knives from my 10 year old block set that have never been sharpened and those are just as sharp as the knives in this set. A good knife should do the work for you (according to many top chefs) but I certainly have to do all of the work with these... even dicing an onion leaves my hand feeling cramped. What do you expect, though when you only pay $80-ish dollars for such a large block set. The only reason I gave it two stars is because the shears that come with the set are nice and sharp. Trimming chicken was effortless with those. Sorry for the negativity but I just can't find much to say about this set that's positive. It's pretty, I guess. :) Save your money if you care about good, quality SHARP knives. This set would be ok for someone who doesn't cook very often.

LEATHER KNIFE COVER

LEATHER KNIFE COVERThese leather knife blade covers work good as the leather provides great protection for the carver. Some carvers use wine corks but the blade edge isn't covered. With these covers, the blade is inserted into paper that is inside the sleeve, thus the tip and blade edge is protected. However the paper separates after a few insertions and slips off the blade easily while in your tool box/kit.

kitchenAid 2 Piece Fruit & Vegetable Knive Set Forged Stainless Steel

kitchenAid 2 Piece Fruit & Vegetable Knive Set Forged Stainless SteelI took my knife like the microserrated one in this set to my daughters at Christmas. She doesn't own nor appreciate the value of a sharp knife, making cooking in her kitchen difficult. I accidentally left it there. After she had used it there was no chance of me getting it back. I looked for a replacement for a couple of months before finding one on Amazon. The smooth-edged knife came along with it and is

advertised as being designed to hold its edge longer. We shall see. It is not why I purchased this set. The micro serrated one is the go-to knife in my kitchen. Even though it is described as a fruit and vegetable knife I have found it much more versatile. I do own a variety of Henckles knives yet I still reach for this knife. Recommendation: handle with care. It looks harmless but is not.

Wusthof blade guard 10 cooks

Wusthof blade guard 10 cooksI have had no trouble with this protector. I put it on my knife, and it stays there. Note that I am not tossing this into a bag and carrying it around, but, it fits my 10" knife and holds firm as it should. I expect that this size would not work well on a smaller knife, so, be sure to purchase the correct size.

So, if your purpose is primarily storage to sit around, I can say that it works well for me. The knife goes in and comes out easily.

The felt inside is easy on the knife and nicely cushions a global chef's knife. However, if it ever gets dirty (and what doesn't get in a kitchen), I see no way of properly cleaning this device nor did it come with any cleaning instructions. So, it seems like it has a built in limited life.

edit: -1 star after original review because my knife easily slips out of this when it is my drawer, defeating the purpose of the knife protector.

I really have to wonder about the review that says the Wusthof Blade Guard falls off the knife. Certainly not my experience! It slides easily onto my Dexter-Russell Chinese Cleaver (8" x 3 1/4), stays put, doesn't scratch the knife thanks to the velvet lining, protects the edge from damage, and avoids accidental cuts when rummaging in the drawer where I keep the cleaver. What more could anyone expect from this product?

Last year I purchase two wusthof knife guards base on the reputation of the manufacture....big mistake...still have one unopened that was destined for my son in law.

Why. They are not secure. The knife will slip and requires taping for travel. I own a wide assortment of knives...including high end japanese and have had excellent luck with

Blade Saver and Dick guards....

disappointed.

I LOVE this lightweight cover! My only complaint is that it is much longer than the blade of my knife. It's soft on the inside which helps wick any moisture I may have missed when drying, and it feels sturdy even though it's thin.

Totally Bamboo Ukulele, Bamboo Cutting Board

Totally Bamboo Ukulele, Bamboo Cutting BoardTo be honest, I ordered this as a gag gift for someone who likes to cook and likes to play guitar. Since I wasn't keeping it, I didn't really care about its quality, but it is actually pretty well made.

Kyocera Ceramic Steel Sharpener

Kyocera 6 Inch Ceramic Steel SharpenerI received the sharpener in about 4 days with ground shipping.

I immediately tried it on my Henkels, it made it so sharp, I was able to cut thin slices, horizontally, of paper with it. Then I started with my cheap knives, which were pretty dull, using the groved side and then the smooth side. The result was a set of pretty sharp , slicer, bread knife, utility, and paring knives.

This is an essential item that every knife owner must have. It's versatile and fantastic for all sorts of knives, scissors and not just your chef's knives. I primarily use it for my hunting and pocket knives. It can be used to sharpen, hone or realign the blade's edge. There is a smooth side for honing or even realigning the burr during routine maintenance and a ribbed side for sharpening your knives if needed. So if you're in the market for an excellent sharpening or honing steel, get this one and you won't regret it.

Buy Kyocera Ceramic Steel Sharpener Now

if you have a good knife you need one of these to keep its edge. throw out that old steel from you knifeblock. Ceramic is the way to go.

I opened up the box. went right to my kitchen and honed up my henckles and my shun. i have been using myold steel on these daily and i saw an amazing difference. this is the sharpest my henckles chef knife has ever been.

Try a quick test pushing your knife through a ripe tomato without making a slicing motion. If you cant do it you need one of these.

Word of caution: dont drop it. Even though ceramic is harder than steel it can chip or break so baby it a bit. This will also sharpen some as well as reallign the blade. you will see the metal it removes.

Wish it had a better handle thus the four stars but i wouldnt spend any more because this does exactly what i need.

Great product for sharpening (ribbed side) and honing your knives. Note of caution, the ceramic material is very tough indeed, so I found it leaves small scratches on my knives. MY knives which are Shun Elite have polished edge and these scratches are visible. Whether honing or sharpening apply very very light pressure to minimize this effect.

Want Kyocera Ceramic Steel Sharpener Discount?

I already have a ceramic steel. I use it extensively but find is sometimes to fine a steel to correct for even minor blade flaws. The Kyocera steel is more aggressive, but still subtle enough not to remove too much metal. I have used it to quickly touch up all of my straight bladed knives. I like it a lot. I gave it four star rating due to the cheap plastic handle... What were they thinking. I purchased their ceramic knives at the same time and alas, plastic handles. Great blades but again what were they thinking.

Emerilware by Wusthof Kitchen Shears

Emerilware by Wusthof Kitchen ShearsThese shears quickly became one of my favorite tools in the kitchen. They are very sharp, quite sturdy, comfortable in the hand, and come apart for cleaning. (I have never had them come apart while in use.) I hand wash them and have never had problems with rust.

They have not needed sharpening despite using them for several years. There is a plastic button but the actual connecting piece that takes the force and wear is a metal pin and neither is removable. The handles have a fine non-slip texture but are still easy to clean. The tips are not sharp like a knife tip but are very slightly rounded making them safe to use while holding something in your hand but still pointy enough to do delicate tasks.

You can use them to cut up chickens, trim fat from meat, chop herbs like cilantro and green onions, de-core lettuce and cabbage, trim artichokes, de-stem strawberries, open plastic bags neatly to make them easy to re-close, cut foil, milk jugs, string, parchment, and blocks of chocolate, make baskets out of orange peels, cut soybean thread. I have even used them to cut paper and cardboard on occasion. The hole in the middle is supposed to be for opening bottles but I use it to crack walnuts, pecans, and brazil nuts. The other day I used them to cut up frozen asparagus, much easier than using a knife on a cutting board.

I really don't have anything negative to say about these, they're good quality and a good value and definitely a "best buy" kitchen tool.

They also make a great gift for someone starting a household or for anyone who doesn't have a nice set of shears, twice I have used them for gifts and both times they thanked me several times over the next few months.

They are really very sharp compared to the last shears I've owned. The color matches my kitchen motif and I can take them apart and use one side to open a package.

White Plastic Cutlery Packets, Cutlery Kit, Medium Weight Polystyrene, Fork, Knife, Napkin, Salt and Pepper, 200 per CartonI got these because they said medium weight. If this is medium weight, I would sure like to see light weight, those must be made out of air. But, they do work for my purpose of bringing them with my lunch, so 3 stars instead of 1.

These utensil packets are cheaply priced, and work great for a packed lunch. No spoons, but knife and fork are sturdy enough, and the napkin is large enough to be useful though you certainly won't be cleaning up big spills.

As I simply needed something to throw in my lunch bag each day, without much thought or cost these are perfect.

Messermeister - Bamboo Magnet Block - Holds 10 Knives

Messermeister - Bamboo Magnet Block - Holds 10 KnivesI was hesitant to buy this item because I have a set of heavy Global knives, but the magnet on this item is strong enough to keep them straight -even my 8 inch heavy Chef's knife. You have to know where the magnets are located, but once you do that it is easy to get your knives on and off the rack and back on. The bottom two slots are better suited to utility knives because of the angle. What I like about this block is that the blades of your knives aren't getting dulled like they do in a regular knife block. As a bonus, it looks really cool on my counter.

The magnets don't hold up anything but small knives. I did not expect it to hold a cleaver, but I have Henckles knives and this block won't even hold up a 5" knife. When I place a knife against the block, it just slides off and down to the countertop. Too bad, I really thought it was pretty and I like the idea of seeing the knife I want to use without having to pull it out of a block. I have a wall mounted magnetic knife holder that works very well, so I was hoping this would be capable of doing the job because I remodeled my kitchen and don't want to screw a wall mount holder into the tile backsplash.

Great idea but doesn't hold a cleaver very well. It will hold 10 knives depending on the size and weight.

Sekiryu Santoku Japanese Knife 7" Blade

Sekiryu Santoku Japanese Knife 7' BladeI bought my 'Santoku' knife made by Sekiryu at an Asian foods store. It is a real Japanese-made knife at least, I see no made-in-China labels. The package instructions are all in Japanese, but there are some helpful pictograms on blade-sharpening profiles and knife care. No dishwashing machines, OK?

While listed as a 7-inch blade, the Sekiryu Santoku knife actually has a 170mm stainless steel blade (6.75 in.). It uses a thinner, stamped blade stock (unlike the forged construction of more expensive knives). So it flexes a bit more, though not to an excessive degree, in part due to its limited length. Steel appears to be a decently tempered 420-series stainless steel, probably 420J. Its edge is thin, hard, and after a bit of sharpening very sharp. Instead of the flat ground blade profile (progressive taper from spine to edge) of most santoku designs, the Sekiryu Santoku's blade has a hollow machined section ground along its length on the lower third of the blade. It is a partial tang knife; the handle is of lightweight wood instead of heavier Ho wood, and it has a plastic bolster instead of horn, so its balance is a bit blade-heavy, and not at the rear of the blade as with most full-tang Santoku. This does not impair its general performance, and the symmetrical handle allows it to be used by both right and left-hand users (not always the case with traditional designs).

Once sharpened and honed to improve the factory edge, the Sekiryu Santoku still cuts and slices very well, much like a short slicing knife, probably due to its rather thin blade. While it takes a very sharp edge, the blade steel isn't terribly hard and so keeping the blade steeled and occasionally resharpened will be required, but then it doesn't cost $80, either. You will want to restrict it to lighter veggies, fish, and chicken it's definitely not for tasks like butchering thick cuts of meat or careless chopping on hard surfaces (always use a wood cutting board). Overall fit and finish are good and the knife has held up well after two years of use.

While it's certainly no Hattori, I would easily recommend this budget stamped-blade knife over some of the U.S.-brand name (but made in China) 'Santoku' copies. Sekiryu put its money where it needed to be in a budget knife in the steel and heat treatment instead of the looks.

Norpro KLEVE 5 Inch Serrated Utility Tomato Knife

Norpro KLEVE 5 Inch Serrated Utility Tomato KnifeKleve are good affordable knives there's a set of 2 "steak" knives in the same series for about the price of this 1 knife. They are also serrated and also 5" you're better off with those :)

They have serrations all the way along the edge, just like this knife, so this knife is a bit... meaningless, no?

CORRECTION: sorry, it seems they raised the price on the set of 2 steak knives. As you were.

Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware Set

Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware SetI received 10 placesettings of this flatware in 1997 for my wedding. I just ordered 6 more placesettings of the same at the end of Dec 2009. When I received them I noticed they were not quite as heavy and not as rounded as my older sets. After a few washes, I took a closer look at them as they weren't washing as well either. I noticed the stamp on the back of the new ones says 18/8 not 18/10. I am not as pleased with the new sets and am very disappointed that companies keep selling this product as 18/10 when it is not.

Pros:

1) dishwasher friendly

2) scratch resistant (for the most part but don't scrub the life out of it!)

3) great for everyday use, but stylish enough for formal entertaining

4) the knives are sufficiently sharp for most meat dishes

Cons:

1) they hold heat extremely well, so watch yourself after they've been run through the d/w or been accidentally left in a pan that you're stiring

2) if you eat spaghetti like a true Italian (which I'm not, but I still eat this way), and wind your noodles around your fork by using a spoon, here's a word of warning: The spoons' bowls get scratched by the fork tines too easily and you end up with a dull-looking finish (otherwise, this set is very scratch resistant, as mentioned above). To minimize this, just use the same spoon everytime you need to use one for this function you will unfortunately be able to tell which one you've used before.

Overall, we are very statisfied with this set as a whole. They have gotten daily use for the last 2 1/2 years and have served us well. Even the specialized serving pieces (sold separately)get frequent use.

Buy Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware Set Now

My husband and I purchased a set of Studio by Gorham flatware four years ago. We considered many brands and styles at the time and decided that we wanted to buy one set that would do double duty for everyday use and for entertaining. I think we made a wise purchase. This flatware has a pleasant heft to it, and by that I mean all of the pieces, not just the knives. The pieces are also well balanced so that they are comfortable in the hand, and the narrow neck which tapers to a wide handle is very elegant. My only slight complaint is that the finish is highly polished, and over time it has become scratched, however, I consider that only a minor flaw since any set of flatware will show wear. I am very pleased with this set, and I think it was one of the best purchases we made when we got married.

This flatware is really nice looking, and it seems to have a good quality. We got them 3 months ago (put them in our wedding registry after analyzing all kinds of flatware) and after a couple times we put it in the dishwasher the knives started to spot with rust. That's pretty disappointing since they said they were "dishwasher safe".

Want Gorham Studio 5-Piece Stainless Flatware Set Discount?

I have searched for this style of flatware for years and there is a reason you can only find it here. It's nowhere near the same quality as my original set purchased in 1998. The weight is very light the old set feels substantial in the hand this feels cheap. It still looks good and feels smooth in the hand no rough edges. The stamp is different. On the original spoon it is stamped into the steel on the handle, the new set it is on the back of the spoon in an ink. It also says Vietnam instead of Japan.

The shipment arrived fine except that the person who sold it obviously smoked cigarettes as the box and packing material stink of it. I haven't decided what I'm going to do. I need more pieces for the holidays. Maybe it's time to find a new flatware and begin to retire this set. My original set has held up beautifully but I don't think these pieces will.

Wusthof Silverpoint II 8-Inch Bread Knife

Great deal on a fantastic product. Works well, sturdy, light, durable, easy to clean. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable, good-quality bread knife.

After using a cheap dollar store bread knife for years and being unable to slice a piece of garlic bread without ruining the entire loaf I decided it was time to purchase something a little more expensive. Earlier in the year I'd had the wonderful opportunity to review a complete set of Wusthof knives from Amazon and they impressed me so much that I knew what brand of knife my next bread knife would be.

Now, I'm not one to spend hundreds of dollars on a single knife, so I looked for the cheapest Wusthof bread knife I could find; and this was it.

It's a beautifully manufactured piece that is ideal for cutting bread. It gets the bread sliced the first time, every time, yet you still need to start with the tip of the knife to begin cutting. Carved from high-carbon no-stain steel, this knife holds a sharp edge that makes cutting through anything a breeze.

The grip is solid and comfortable and doesn't pose any slip issues.

If you're on a budget but need a bread knife I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one.

Zyliss Chef's Knife, 7.5-Inch, Blue

Zyliss Chef's Knife, 7.5-Inch, BlueFirst of all, I can't believe the price of this knife!! I've used it for all kinds of vegetables and am so thrilled to have such a sharp chef's knife on hand. It cuts through fish, (both the meat and the skin), flawlessly which is something I really appreciate in a busy kitchen environment. Fish skin isn't always so easily dealt with, especially when you're looking for a clean cut. The fact that it is blue and has a really nice blade cover just adds to the value for me. I think it's awesome to be able to buy a knife this versatile without spending $75 dollars or more. Perfect!!

This is a sensational knife! It is lightweight but slices thru anything. It makes me look like a pro as I slice onions, peppers, even thru a London Broil. I especially like the protective sleeve so it is safe in the drawer. I would definitely buy others of this type in different sizes. A must have for any cook and well priced, too!

Mundial 5100 Series 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge, Black

Mundial 5100 Series 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge, BlackRecently, I bought 3 Mundial knives (santoku, serrated utility and parer)the steel is the same across the line and all blades are forged with full tang. Only the handles are different.

So far, I am very happy with the out of box sharpness, balance, and overall look of the knife. you can cut tomatoes (for example) just by placing the blade over the fruit and gently gliding across the surface. big test will be 4-6 mths down the line and after honing. IN the meantime, the only criticism is the granton edge. this is the first knife i used with this kind of edge, and frankly, mostly everything still sticks: onion, tomato, tofu...

not a big deal, but not a great feature either ...

that said, I think the price is great (about 4 0 bux for the 3pc.), especially on the elegance line (which amazon for some reason doesn't carry yet)

This knife is great! It is extremely sharp and perfectly balanced. It really feels great in your hand.

Want Ginsu 8-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Natural Hardwood Block 4872 Discount?

I don't know quite what I was expecting but it wasn't what I got. Perhaps I should have recalled those famous Ginsu TV ads where they cut through nail and a pop can, etc. and I would have suspected the blades were all going to be serrated and thick. In fact 5 out of the 6 knives have serrated edges. The reason I don't like serrated is they cannot be easily sharpened when they eventually get dull. And even that would be okay if they were actually quite sharp to begin with but alas, they are not all that sharp... in fact, these are the dullest knives in the house right now and so maybe it is fortunate that they are serrated because they seem to require a sawing action to get any serious cutting out of them. Because these knives often require a sawing motion on so many items, I find in some situations they can actually be dangerous, like 'sawing' a slice off a peeled melon or peeled mango etc. that's already slippery. One of the knives already had some rusting on it right out of the box. Also the blades are quite thick and I suppose that is why they can cut a nail without doing too much damage but then really who wants to be able to cut a nail in half anyway? The santoku is the best of the set and does chop vegetables. This set was so cheap (price-wise) that I won't bother returning them to Amazon however at some point I will be back on Amazon again looking for yet another set of knives to use to cut-up fruits and vegetables, and this time I will make sure they are not serrated and hopefully have thinner (sharper) blades that can be re-sharpened easily and I'll save the Ginsu knives for any nails I need to cut-off.

I am no master chef but my co-worker was a professional chef for 10 years. Quite a lot of them were as head chef. Here are a few of his simple statements of truth while guiding me to knife education.

1. Professional chefs in kitchens don't get fancy expensive knives. If the knives gets stolen, the restaurant is out a lot of money. This doesn't mean they're bad knives, but it does mean you don't need to spend a lot of money.

2. I don't trust any knife which says it doesn't need sharpening.

3. You want full tang.

Now, here is my take on these as a beginner, these aren't full tang but are sturdy. When they fall apart I can get to the bottom of it but for now, they're doing a great job for the price. I got mine at woot for far less. I test full tang by performing a conductivity test from the knife tip to the hilt. It failed there. A test from the tip of the blade to the back end of the blade where it meets the hilt succeeded. Now the set is great, I would've liked kitchen shears. The main reason this is getting four stars and not five is because the Santoku length is small. Everything else I can deal with.

The best information I can give is I have a $10 Mainstays (i.e. Walmart) 7" Santoku knife. It's full tang, loses it's edge fast but when I need it, it works and is a knife size.
