Tramontina Steak Knives 12 Pc. Set Cherry Wood Handles Serrated Blade Stainless Steel 2832/05

Tramontina Steak Knives 12 Pc. Set Cherry Wood Handles Serrated Blade Stainless Steel 2832/05I LOVE THESE KNIVES!! I grew up with these in my house and thought they were a normal utensil in every home. My mom had even stocked me up when I moved into my own place 8 years ago. I only learned they were unique when I asked my mom to get me more, and she advised me she had given all her extra ones away. Apparently these knives have been a popular gift from my mom that all her friends have loved and even requested from her. My mom had actually been searching for these, but could not locate anymore. I ordered some for her and some for me. I am very very grateful that these are available online. I use these knives FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING!!!

Calphalon Classic Bakeware 9-Inch Round Nonstick Springform Pan

Calphalon Classic Bakeware 9-Inch Round Nonstick Springform PanIt works great! The latch tarnished a little after cooking but other than that it works great.

I'm really happy with this pan, I've made several cheese cakes with it now and haven't had a problem. The latch has a very solid feel when opening or closing. Cleaning has been extremely easy so far, a quick soak in warm water and everything wipes right off.

Last Christmas, I had some last minute baking to do and purchased this pan along with Nordicware's 3-pc. Springform Pan Set (seemed like a good deal for 3 stackable pans). I used the calphalon 9" and also Nordicware's 9" to make a layer cake. Both pans worked well, but I preferred calphalon because of the weight. It seemed so solid and had a good feel to it. I've used it for cheesecakes and also a regular white cake for coconut cake turned out beautifully without sticking.

I was going to return the nordicware, but decided to could use the smaller pans for small cakes/cheesecakes.

USEFUL TIP:

To avoid rusting on any metallic cookware, I wash them by hand and pop them in a warm oven (200 degrees or so). This eliminates any possibility of rust forming in hard-to-reach corners. Do the same for cookie cutters, etc.

Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 5 1/4-Inch Slicing Knife, White BladeKyocera ceramics are the sharpest knives I've ever seen or used in a career marked by years of professional cooking. But that is well known; an argument that need not be advanced by me. I want to respond to the reviewer who complained that his knife lost its keen edge after two months use. I've been slicing tomatoes and other soft fruits and vegetables with this knife for more than five years, not just on weekends but day in and day out in a commercial kitchen. It remains as sharp today as when I took it out of the box. I suspect that the unhappy reviewer was misusing the knife by cutting on the wrong type of surface, dragging the blade against bone or otherwise asking the knife to do things that it was not designed to do, and which the manufacturer clearly says not to do.

Use it properly and you may never find out how well and quickly Kyocera can resharpen it for you.

Best knives ever just be careful not to drop them, as they are more brittle than steel, and will break under certain conditions. I'd recommend getting a knife sharpener that is meant for ceramic blades as a steel sharpener will ruin a ceramic blade. Finally, don't use on stone, glass or stainless steel cutting surfaces, as the super-fine edge will wear much more quickly.

One feature (some like it/some hate it) is they are very light in weight, and if you are used to a nice set of steel knives, it might take a while to get used to the feel.

Great knives.

I had never used a ceramic knife before, but I must say that it cuts tomatoes and meat like butter! I am very happy I invested money in this knife. The company sends along a free knife sharpening coupon redemable at their company because you can't use the traditional knife sharpener on the ceramic blade. This adds a level of comfort since the blades can chip if you drop the knife on a hard surface or use pressure with it on bone.

I bought this knife to supplement my Henkel, Wusthof, and Messermeister knives. I've never owned a ceramic knife, and having read the reviews here, thought this might be a nice addition to my burgeoning collection (I love sharp knives). I especially wanted it for my fruit/veggie art carvings, where a really sharp knife is necessary.

The knife is certainly very well made, and feels fairly well balanced. The absence of rivets makes the blade end a bit heavier than the handle, however. As the handle totally encases the tang, I cannot tell if it is full tang or not. But the handle is a little light to my feel but that may be just me. It still feels pretty good despite this shortcoming.

The first time I used it, it was amazingly sharp. I had no problem slicing the thinnest radish, cucumber, carrot, or any hard veggie slices I could get my hands on. Being a honing (sharpening) steel freakazoid addict, I was disappointed that I could not use that prior to returning the ceramic knife to my wooden butcher block, but I knew that going in.

Now, after a month, it's not so sharp at all. Note: I cut ONLY on cork or end grain wood boards, so that is not the issue. I can't see any burrs, but I know they must be there because it does at times snag on foods, and doesn't give thin slices as it did just one month ago. I know I can return it to Kyocera for sharpening, but at this price point, I'm not going to invest more money.

For those with limited funds (read as: me), I believe it is better to get a high quality carbon steel knife from the three mfgrs I mentioned above, use the honing steel before and after every use, and the Chef's Choice sharpener (or its equivalent, although there really IS no equivalent in my experience) to reset the edge once/year (that's my average) and you'll do fine. (I also own the simpler Accusharp device, but it is not all that great.)

Bottom line? Ceramic may be great for some things, but in my limited experience (and perhaps this only holds true for the Kyocera brand) this was not worth the money invested.

Whatever knife you choose, best of luck in your cutting. Be sure to invest in the best cutting board you can find (end grain maple is consistently rated the softest). It does not matter WHICH knife you buy if you use a cheap board (glass is the WORST by far). Been there, done that. I've seen good knives dulled by just one use of low quality cutting boards. It amazes me when people spend $150 or more on a high quality knife, and I see them using a glass cutting board. Just stupefying to me.

This knife has to be the sharpest knife I have ever used. Effortlessly cuts. Really nice. The only issue is that it does not come with a sheath as many I have seen do. It is too sharp to leave in the drawer, and I would be wary of damaging the blade as well. I don't use a block due to limited counter space. A protective sheath would be perfect.

I purchased this knife to round out a set I'd bought but am not that pleased with this knife. It has small serrated edges that shred meat rather than carve it. I have put it away and don't use it, bought another one instead. Like the J.A.Henckels brand but not the Eversharp. Sabatier 10 Inch Forged Carbon Steel Chef Knife Made in France

Sabatier 10 Inch Forged Carbon Steel Chef Knife Made in Franceif you know knives, and you like carbon steel, you will love this knife. this knife is not faberware. its not high chromium super hard steel. it is NOT stainless and does require more care than german stainless knives such as wusthof or henckels. it must be dried immediately after use to prevent rust, and will require a few extra passes across a steel each time you use it. it will oxidize and the shiny finish will darken the first time you use it on anything containing iron (meat). this is NORMAL. it is part of the characteristics of carbon steel cutlery. if you look on ebay you will see old grungy looking knives covered in dark patina selling for upwards of $250 and in good condition they are worth every penny. to find a k sabatier at this price without having to pay $30-40 for international shipping from france is unheard of.

this is a relatively new seller on amazon, without much of a track record. i decided to take a chance and am very satisfied. they shipped within 48 hours, and i have the knife 48 hours in advance of my expected delivery date.

the feel, fit, and finish is exceptional. it has a full tang, brass riveted handle which is just about perfectly balanced so us pros that have a knife in our hand 40+ hours a week can use it with little fatigue. once you develop a good patina on your knife you will also notice that food sticks less to carbon steel than high chromium stainless. the shape of the french chef's knife is slightly straighter and thinner than german cutlery which makes it less suited for a rocking motion, but its like a razor when it comes to slicing. one last time as a caveat, this is carbon steel, you cannot dunk it in a bucket of sanitizer and leave it there all night, and if you ever put it through the dishwasher (which will not only stain and pit the metal, but will remove the temper from the blade), please immediately remember this review and slap yourself for me.

with proper care, this knife will end up with your children, and thats no exaggeration as i know people with both solingen (germany) and thiers-sabatier (france) cutlery that is upwards of 80-100 years old.

This knife is excellent. Amazon and China Fair Inc. are great to deal with. The bottom line for the knife is that dollar for dollar carbon steel will out perform stainless by a good margin. Terminology can be confusing since all steel contains carbon, and can be a "high carbon" version. However, stainless steel also has about 13 percent chromium alloyed with the steel to resist rust and stains. The newer tech stainless "super steels" and Japanese layered steels give incredibly outstanding performance but are both very expensive. In this price range, however, you simply can not beat carbon steel for ease of sharpening, attaining a very smooth, sharp edge, holding the edge, and maintaining the edge. The only drawback is a little extra care and maintenance and appreciating the beauty of patina over shine. This knife is a quality carbon (not stainless) knife. Choose a stainless knife if you prefer easy maintenance and shiny looks. Choose carbon for cutting performance.

Steel is iron with carbon. Carbon makes steel harder than iron and makes the steel able to be heat treated and tempered to a very high degree of hardness. Plain carbon steel (without the chromium) is better with this process because stainless becomes more brittle during heat treatment. Also, carbon steel will sharpen into a nicer edge just like smooth peanut butter spreads smoother than "chunky". Also, when you straighten out an edge with a steel rod the plain carbon is more forgiving of being worked back into place and can do it more times before needing actual sharpening.

Dulling of a knife edge starts with tiny bends in the extremely sharp thin edge. If neglected, the edge becomes really dull when these tiny bends bend clear over and sometimes break. Frequently "steeling" a knife with a honing rod straightens the small bends back in place and greatly slows the dulling process. Sharpening (cutting the steel edge with a stone) is postponed for a long time by keeping the edge straight. All knives need this, but plain carbon steel tolerates this better and will last longer between sharpenings and then even be easier to sharpen. A smooth honing steel like the Victorinox, and an easy to use sharpening guide like the Lansky will keep your good carbon knife a superior performer that will last your whole life.

I communicated with China Fair Inc by e-mail before ordering. Their incredibly quick response and good information convinced me they are indeed knowledgeable and passionate about their lines of quality French and German knives. They shipped really fast. I highly recommend China Fair and this particular knife.

Buy Sabatier 10 Inch Forged Carbon Steel Chef Knife Made in France Now

As far as I can determine this is an authentic, Thiers-forged K-Sabatier knife, offered here for about the same price that K-Sabatier charges through their website. The rivets on the knife that I received are brass, rather than stainless as in the image (brass rivets may indicate an older date of manufacture, which is probably a plus for those who want to buy this kind of knife). Other than that the knife is exactly as advertised.

This knife has a classic French shape. It offers the robust construction of a German knife (like Wusthof or Henckels) with nearly the grace and lightness of a Japanese knife. The blade has a small, thin bolster or finger guard, a large, heavy, comfortable handle, and a relatively narrow profile. From the edge of the blade to the spine it is shorter than a classic German knife, though it is not so thin or so straight that you cannot use it to rock cut when mincing. It is very well balanced. The blade is thicker than many Japanese knives, but not obtrusive or clumsy.

Sabatier finished this knife very well I found no aesthetic or manufacturing flaws, only imperfections that show that the knife was made by hand.

Sabatier makes this knife from carbon steel, not stainless steel. As other reviewers have said this requires some special care. I found the carbon steel of this particular Sabatier to be less reactive than some (much less reactive than the similar carbon steel of my Sabatier Nogent chef's knife). I cut onions and shallots with it for a few days before it began to develop a faint patina. The metal never stained food or caused a foul odor, which is apparently a problem with some low-quality carbon steels. I like the patina so I haven't tried to remove it; the internet claims that you can do so with baking soda and a champagne cork.

The knife was not particularly sharp when it arrived; this is reportedly not unusual for Thiers-manufactured knives. It took a very fine edge when I sharpened it, and it has held this edge well during use.

On a less tangible level I find this knife fun to use and well behaved. You can tell that Sabatier has made knives of this shape and profile for so long for a reason it feels comfortable and natural in the hand and it excels at all kinds of food prep tasks, from mincing herbs to portioning raw meat (of course this should be true of all chef's knives, in an ideal world). This K-Sabatier feels tough when using it I never worry that it will chip or bend, as I sometimes do with more delicate Japanese knives (many of which imitate this French blade shape).

It is difficult to believe that you can get a knife of this quality for less than one hundred dollars. This is an absolutely superb chef's knife, and it should last a lifetime. I recommend it very highly.

This is the real deal. If you want a great chef's knife, buy this one. I have dozens of high quality kitchen knives (Wusthof, Henckels, Sabatier, Masamoto, F. Dick, Suisin, etc., etc..), but this is now my favorite of all of them. It feels sooo good in the hand. Perfect balance, light, agile. Honestly it feels like an 8" knife, not a 10". That's the first thing: a knife has to feel good when you use it. Secondly, it sharpens wickedly sharp in just a few minutes. So easy to get a razor edge on it. Third, and most important for some, it's LESS than HALF the price of anything comparable. Downside? Nothing for me, but some people will object to it being a carbon steel knife. You don't need to do anything different to maintain this knife vs. stainless, BUT, you need to do it right away. You cannot leave it lying around wet. It must be wiped and dried promptly. Is that too much to ask? Yes, it may discolor from acid foods. So what? If you don't like that, simply go over it with a Scotchbrite or a wine cork and some scouring cleanser or baking soda. In other words, this is a terrific knife for those of us who take care of our knives.

Wow! This is an amazing chef's knife. I work in the culinary industry and use my knife extensively each day and where my previous knife quickly would lose an edge even with honing the K Sabatier does not. It is easily the best chefs knife I have ever owned my career. There is one point I would like to make there is the many questions I have seen on Amazon about is this a real K Sabatier? Because I guess evidently there are some fakes out there. The knife in the picture featured shows silver rivets, but the knife you will receive if you purchase the carbon steel will have brass rivets. I to of course was concerned with this. I went to K Sabatier's company website and noticed they did not have any knives posted either with brass rivets. I then e-mailed the company and asked them about this issue. The official answer is the knives with brass rivets are carbon steel knives and that is how the company distinguishes carbon steel from stainless steel is with the brass rivets and they were able to verify its authenticity. So when you're carbon steel knives has brass rivets don't be alarmed and be prepared to use an amazing piece of cutlery.

Weston 61-0901-W 9 Inch Heavy Duty Food Slicer

Weston 61-0901-W Heavy Duty Food 9-Inch SlicerIt's a geat meat slicer. The 9" blade makes slicing large pieces of meat a breeze. The suctions on the base keep it from moving while it's running. Also, the clean up takes minutes. Thank you Weston for a great product.

Looked all over for a slicer wasn't impressed with what I saw.

When this slicer arrived it looked very good and when I put it to work it did the job just as I wanted. Cleanup is a snap and it doesn't take up the whole counter.

Looks like the person that designed this machine had actually used one and tried to make it the best he could. For the money it is a five star machine and I am impressed.

I bought this food slicer due to it's large blade size and it's claimed more powerful 150 watt motor. When I received it I let the unit warm to room temperature and tested it. The motor growled loudly and the blade spun slowly at about 40 RPM. I called the included manufacturers 800 number to report this. The CSR said they would send a replacement and a pickup slip for the defective unit, which they did. The only problem there was it was a residential pick up which still cost me $9.00 freight to exchange. When I received the replacement I tested it right away. It seemed to work properly until I put it to the test. I had prepared, the night before, a 5 pound sirloin roast beef to make Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches for my super bowl party the next day. Even though the meat was well chilled and tender the slicer could barely cut a clean slice. About a third of the way through slicing the roast the blade slowed considerably and then the drive mechanism broke. The price paid for the ordered pizzas for my guests exceeded the price paid for this slicer. Needless to say it was two strikes and Westin was out. I returned the unit to Amazon and received a full refund. I would advise not buying this slicer as it's quality is dubious.

Only have had for a week sliced some deer up for jerky worked great on slightly frozen meat(makes i easier to slice that way). easy to clean up. Watch the blade when cleaning is very sharp a fillet glove would be a good idea for the hand that handles it and holds the meat. Only thing is the motor could use a little more power it got slightly warm cutting up 8 lbs of meat 1/4" wide for my jerky. I would recommend it for anyone. Have about 40 lbs of deer left to do any problems with it i will post them.

I've had two slicers before this one and both worked well, for what I paid for them. This one has a great motor and a belt drive, stainless steel food tray tilts for easy cleaning. I love the adjustable thickness control for slicing from deli-thin to over 1/2-inch..., Best Part, it does not move well slicing the meat as my other two did. On/Off safety switch is covered BIG PLUS and cleans up very well...

The one VERY BAD THING is the press that goes between your hand and the food you are slicing. It does not have a track to hold (LOCK) it on the sliding carriage, so when you are pushing the carriage forward, you have to hold down the food press while you are pushing the food into the blade. If you forget to do this, you will find your hand in the VERY SHARP BLADE!!!

If you have used a food slicer before, this is a very good one, for the money. I have no problem using it, and like it very much, but I warn you, IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST SLICER..., BUY A BETTER ONE!

Look at the photos very closely and read the reviews! This is a great food slicer for the money it costs. I also highly recommend you get kevlar gloves for your hands if this is the first slicer you are buying, they come in very handy when you are cleaning the blade also!

I would have given it 5 stars but the food press does not lock on the carriage!

Pfaltzgraff Satin Danford 53-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Pfaltzgraff Satin Danford 53-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8Well, you get what you pay for. After seeing these in person, I'm positive there's no way this set costs $90 at retail. That price would be an absolute joke to pay. After applying a promotional code I had, I ended up paying $25 for this set and I wouldn't pay more than that for it. I'll keep the set because I just moved and need flatware and I can always buy better later; it will serve the purpose for now, but it's definitely not high quality. Had I seen it in a store, I'd have passed on it immediately.

These look much thicker and sturdier in the photo than they actually are. The smaller spoons and forks actually almost feel like the thickness and weight of plastic flatware. Despite being thin and lightweight, they don't bend super easily, but I'm certain I could bend every piece if I put effort into it. On the plus side, the finish on the pieces is represented well in the photo. The handles are a matte finish and the tops of the pieces are shiny. The steak knives have low quality black plastic handles. They're going to the back of the drawer probably never to be used.

I'm surprised these have the Pfaltzgraff name on them. All of their other flatware that I've seen and used has been of a substantial weight and good quality. These are definitely not up to par, but still a functional, cheap option as a beginning set.

Dexter-Russell (2332) - 3 1/2" Paring Knife - Dexter-Russell Series

Dexter-Russell - 3 1/2' Paring Knife - Dexter-Russell SeriesI wanted to give this pairing knife one star, but I dont hate it, I just dont like the way it rusted after the first washing. I was surprised to say the least. I have problems with my hands and do not like the metal handles on anything, They get hot and I cant feel it so I usually burn my hands, so that is why I bought the wooden handle knife. I understand it was more or less cheap but the advertising was good. It is very sharp so I did give it two stars. But it does rust. I will not bother to return it for the shipping and going to the post office is not worth the trouble. I do not recommend it because of the rusting.

Bambu Cork Taper Cutting Board

Bambu Large 14-Inch L by 10-Inch W Cork Taper Cutting Board, NaturalI wanted a food safe, yet sustainably manufactured alternative to the plastic cutting boards that I have used for years. In researching options, I came across this cork cutting board. I confirmed with the manufacturer (Bambu) that they don't use adhesives or glues in the construction of these boards (they're molded with heat & pressure). This appealed to me a lot, so I decided to buy one and give it a try. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It's easy on my knives, very easy to clean, and so far has been remarkably durable. I use it to chop and slice all manner of fruits and vegetables. I thought I would miss not being able to put the cutting board into the dishwasher, but I do not. The only caveat is that you absolutely cannot use a serrated knife on this cutting board. As long as you avoid this, I think that you'll be very satisfied with your purchase.

The small cutting board is about the size of a medium paperback book (one by say Christopher Moore), while the medium size one is a bit larger than your standard printer paper. The board quality is high with the innate cork quality of cushioning, which I find as a rather comfortable attribute. I don't know if it actually helps your knife blade remain sharper for longer (as stated by the manufacturer), but it does feel good while your chopping and dicing. They clean easily and dry fast, without lingering smells or cut lines into the flesh of the board, as you find in plastic boards.

Buy Bambu Cork Taper Cutting Board Now

Very good cutting surface; however, please be very careful that what you get is a board that is pretty much going to be used only on one side at a much smaller dimension than one might think unless you consider carefully what a Tapered Cutting board is:

Although it CAN be used on both, it has a radiused edge on one side which makes the board more stable but the effective cutting surface dimension lessens by about 1" smaller on each side. After measuring other boards for what I needed, the 8x12 seemed plenty big relative to regular square cut edged cutting boards, but this doesn't get used as often as it might as it is actually only about 6x10, which means it's too small for chopping most things. Also, the radius edge makes the food more likely to 'fall off'.

This is a good size for chopping 3 cloves of garlic or cutting open a fruit for a bar drink, but not for chopping a small onion or slicing a big carrot. I'd buy the bigger one for the 'medium' use I think

I had such high hopes for this. I'd tried several other sharpeners over the years with no luck, so I splurged on this. No matter what I tried, the blades actually got duller. I started with blades of various brands that were still usable, just not as sharp as they had been, and ended up with blades that didn't cut even a single layer! Epicurean 2-Piece Prep Series Set, NaturalA friend gave me a large one several years ago as a hostess gift. I used it EVERY day until accidentally putting it

under the broiler! Delighted to find the two piece set on Amazon so convenient for food prep of all kinds. Also

casual to serve right on the patio. It is oven-friendly (NO broiler) I find myself reaching for it everyday!

I brought a black Epicurean cutting board and loved it so much that I went back and brought 2 more. Then one day, while cutting meat,I noticed black particles on my knife. When I checked my meat, it had black particles too. It turns out that it came from the cutting board! After consistent repeat incidents of this, I had to throw all 3 boards away because I wasn't sure what was getting into my food when I cut. Very expensive lesson since these aren't exactly cheap.

I usually prefer cutting surfaces such as the special glass ones, or the ultra-smooth plastic ones, because they're easy to clean and don't harbor bacteria. Downside is the glass ones have a clinky noise when you slice hard, and the plastic ones get rifted over time.. and they're both expensive.

The Epicurean is awesome because it doesn't harbor bacteria, doesn't rift the same way the plastic ones do, and they're wholly eco-friendly. They look great in any kitchen and they're lightweight.

PROS:

* Safe from harboring bacteria

* Easy to clean

* Lightweight

* Eco-friendly! Wholly recyclable, and made from recycled materials

* Amazon prime had them for less than any local store (by almost half)

CONS:

* None so far

The Epicurean cutting boards I have now used for several years are among my favorite kitchen tools. They are thin, but stay flat for years unlike other boards that warp. The surface is kind on my knives but somehow does not get roughed up very much by constant use of very sharp knives. The antibacterial property of a wood based product is another big benefit. This two board set is a good deal on what is a relatively expensive product. Well worth the investment.

Magic Slice Non-Slip Flexible Cutting Board, Gourmet Size 12-Inch by 15-Inch, Fresh Catch Dungeness

Magic Slice Non-Slip Flexible Cutting Board, Gourmet Size 12-Inch by 15-Inch, Fresh Catch Dungeness Crab by Paul BrentI discovered the Magic Slice cutting boards a few years ago and bought everyone in the family one. I select a design based on the decor of the houses. The boards are flexible and allow chopped food to be easily poured into recipes. One must be careful not to put anything hot on them. Now, I'm buying everyone a new one! I bought this design for my seaside home and I love it!

Healthy Legend Black Blade Deluxe Ceramic kitchen knife set with 4", 5", 6" knives

Healthy Legend Black Blade Deluxe Ceramic kitchen knife set with 4', 5', 6' knivesThis is the 2nd set I have purchased for myself. Some words of caution they are very sharp & require a little more care then the usual crap dull knife. You drop it you will break it learned that the hard way I do not blame the craftsmanship for this just the characteristics of ceramic knives & my own clumsiness. Once again to the sharpness keep these far away from young kids they are scary sharp & also be responsible yourselves after all these are knives the difference with these though is they really cut. I have also broken a plate or two by cutting a cooked frozen pizza by pushing down or even slicing to hard.

Now the truth is all these cautions may seem like much BUT they also go to the ability of these knives to perform their expected tasks. I have sent these as gifts with these cautions & all I have given them too love them as much as I do now. My last set I have had about 6 months & they continue to be as sharp as when purchased. ONE DETAIL you can NOT sharpen these knives. Now if they do what they claim which is to never need sharpening no problem & if 6 months is a pretty good gauge which I think it is, you will be satisfied. I will try to remember to update this review as the time passes on their sharpness BUT for the price I think they are more then worth it.

I purchased these knives as a holiday gift for my son who believes he is a chef. We both were quite impressed with the quality. He loved the color. Wasn't sure from just looking at the picture if the quality would be good or bad, but took a chance. Glad I did. Unfortunantly, I can't speak on the performance since I won't be using them.

KitchenAid Cook's Series 17-Piece Starter Tool and Gadget Set, Black

KitchenAid Cook's Series 17-Piece Starter Tool and Gadget Set, BlackI bought these for my new home. i'm not an expert cooker so I only cook like the basics things. The purchase was great! the tools are really solid and strong and can stand the heat really well. better than I expected :)

good set, has most of the necessary pieces. nothing to rave about, but fits the bill. I like oxo and caphalon pieces better, but they cost a lot more. also, these seem to hold up to heat quite well.

This is a nice set of utensils. My only complaint is that while I purchased these to use with my non-stick cookware, they do not seem to hold up well to too high of temperatures. Medium high on my stove-top started melting the spoon as I tried to stir against the bottom of the pan. They are fairly sturdy, though and as long as you keep to medium or below, hold up very well.

Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce Keeper

Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce KeeperThe reason I stopped eating salads daily was they go bad in the refrigerator too fast. So upon realizing that I need fresh salads for optimal health, I decided to explore options for preserving them. After examining various 'vacuum seal' options, the Lettuce Keeper jumped out as the most logical looking solution. Vegetables, just like plants in the ground, need some air circulation, and the Lettuce Keeper system has all the aspects of vegetable preservation covered. It even has a lower tray from which water evaporates into the storage chamber, which is ventilated. Evaporation and ventilation are applied differentially to various vegetables and fruits.

My experience with the Lettuce Keeper confirms my initial impression of it. It preserves salads far longer than I've seen with any other storage medium I've used. After a week contents show no sign of spoilage or aging. I've not tried any 'vacuum seal' containers, so I can't compare this to that, but I can say this works very well! As per the initial critical review here, the instructions say to place the lid and all on a dishwasher's top rack. I couldn't be happier with this device; and thanks to it, I can be healthier too!

I have been on a diet, eating lots of salads, and have tried everything I could think of to keep the lettuce fresh. Even after purchasing a salad spinner, which I liked ok, I was still throwing a lot of lettuce away because it became wilted and brown. Then I purchased this salad keeper and the result has been a total turn-around in the condition and longevity of my lettuce.

I first cut up (with a plastic lettuce knife don't use metal knives on lettuce), washed and spun my lettuce out in the salad spinner. I then put it in this salad keeper, opening the vents and putting 1/2 cup of water in the bottom as the directions state. The last bowl of lettuce was taken out for use about a week after it was first put in there and it was just as crisp as could be and only a few little brown spots. In fact, the first time I took the keeper out of the frig to make a salad the lettuce was actually more crisp than when I put it in there fresh.

If you like salads and want to keep your lettuce fresh, purchase one of these. I'll never be without it again.

This definitely keeps lettuce longer than in the store-bought bags or plastic clamshell casing. I haven't calculated how much longer in days, but I know I have been surprised when I dig in there to make a salad and realize the lettuce is still good! I make sure to fluff out the lettuce as much as possible when I put it in the lettuce keeper, otherwise moisture and condensation between the lettuce leaves can turn it into slimy gunk, even with the best storage solution. Yes, the top doesn't stay on really well and could probably have been better designed, but the keeper isn't meant to be put into the refrigerator on it's side. Keep it upright and everything will be fine!

We live in Hawaii. Since the climate is very warm and moist, most of our fruits and vegetables go bad within a week if they are uneaten, especially lettuce. This lettuce keeper has allowed us to keep lettuce for up to three or four WEEKS before it gets brown. Here are some notes about how we use it

1) We don't actually ever add any water. It's humid enough here that we don't need to.

2) You need to LEAVE space in the container. If you pack in too much, then the vegetables can't breathe, and you're defeating the whole point.

3) We have never washed this in the dishwasher, and the lid is fine.

I bought this impulsively and it spent a year in storage, never used. Then I decided to eat healthier, which meant more produce. I dusted it off and put it to use and was truly shocked by it's amazing performance. Generally speaking, lettuce seems to stay fresh only a matter of days without this lettuce keeper. But with the Lettuce Keeper, the period of freshness was extended to a much more generous 2 weeks.

My only complaint is that the stretchy lid is not very forgiving about the fact my brother decided to run it through the dishwasher a couple of times. It's warped and no longer will create a complete seal around the top. I'm living with it, but I'm hoping that I will be able to find a replacement lid at some point. Definitely avoid putting the lid in your dishwasher.

Ginkgo Sea Drift Hollow Handle 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4

Ginkgo Sea Drift Hollow Handle 20-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4I can't comment on the longevity of this flatware...but seeing it up close I can hardly imagine it ever breaking down unless put in the path of a bulldozer ... maybe. It is very sturdy. For me this is the perfect flatware for everyday use. Yeah, it's certainly nice enough for people who want it for more formal use, but perfect for everyday use. I don't think any abuse could damage the integrity of this flatware. It's the Iron Man of flatware, especially at the price I paid ($70).

Let me try to describe it for informational purposes. It's glossy, shiny...that type of finish...all over and very evenly formed and shaped. The pieces seem to kind of curve around your palm whichever way you hold them because of the curve of the handle...and the heaviness is very noticeable. The dinner knife is not serrated with those rasp-like teeth on its edge like some flatware. It has a sharp (but not too sharp) smooth edge that I really like much better. Yes, it will cut meat but is not sharp like a steak knife. It's not easy to describe. The knife says "korea" on the blade and the other pieces say "Gingko/Helmick" w/ "stainless 18/10" under that and "korea" under that on the bottom of the forks and spoons where the working ends meet the handles-in black...possibly laser applied...small lettering. There is no lettering on the handles...probably because they are so rounded. Very nice application, IMO, but if you don't like it there I have no idea if it wears off or could be taken off. It's small, black and just looks like it's printed there.

I remember as a young kid seeing and hefting flatware like this at semi-expensive restaurants my parents took me to and liking the feel of really heavy forks, spoons, etc. These remind me of those that I really liked at the time.

I don't imagine seeing anything close to this price range w/ the looks and durability apparent in this set (I bought two) of flatware. I am giving the 40 pieces to one of my married kids at Thanksgiving and I believe it will last at least until they are Grandparents...and may even be passed down to their kids. I recommend it highly, particularly if one likes heavyweight flatware that's seamless and solid. This is VERY solid.
