Dexter-Russell 6-by-3-Inch Stainless Steel and Walnut Dough Scraper

I wanted a high-quality dough scraper/bench knife and kept coming back to this one from Dexter-Russell. This is a simple piece of kitchen equipment so there's no sense in belaboring the point other than to say that it's a pleasure to still be able to find a US-made product, and of such high quality, to boot. I'm going to take the manufacturer at his word that the handle is walnut; whatever it is, it's beautiful (although I wish the ends had been sanded smooth) and feels wonderful in the hand. The blade is stainless steel and has a good edge (I wouldn't subject it to the rigors of granite or marble too often, though, unless you want to deal with sharpening it). It has a nice heft when being used and, contrary to a previous review, there's no evidence whatsoever that the tang protrudes on either side of the handle--mine is seated perfectly.

I do recommend using a wood conditioner on the handle periodically to keep it in good shape but other than that, care is easy: just keep it clean and don't subject any part of the handle to water for extended periods (I hand-wash mine). If you treasure good tools and want a scraper that's nice enough to think of in terms of passing on to someone dear, look no further.

Works wonderfully in cast iron, so much better than wood or plastic.

The edge can also be used to cut things up in the pan or on a griddle, watch next time you are near a short order chef cooking up gyros, philly steaks, or similar, I bet they use something like this to chop and maneuver the food on the griddle.

Keep it nice by only handwashing, don't let it soak either. Occasionaly touch the wood up with some food safe oil, like olive or mineral oil.

The sharp corners can be a liability, be careful not to gouge or stab.

I received the product in good order and I found it to be a very well made and a worthy piece of equipment for professional use. I have owned this cutter for years and it is the only one to purchase. The rounded handles of other cutters look ergonomic, but don't have the wonderful feel of scraping or cutting dough as this one. Think about it. Round handles lose the pressure of your hand as you maneuver this tool to do its work. The handle is made of cherry wood and attached with brass rivets. It is simply a work of art. I love love love using this S496 Dexter tool and realize my appreciation every single time I use it. And so will you.

I purchased the Dexter Russell dough scraper since it is made in the USA. I was concerned due to the negative review about the product quality.

The scraper I received has a nicely made smooth wood handle with the blade inserted without exposure on the ends of the handle. The wood is not walnut and appears to be the rosewood. However, this does not detract from the product quality as both woods are good.

There are some surface scratches on the blade, but this does not detract from the utility of this scraper.

I tried out the scraper with a batch of dough I was making into ciabatta bread and the blade cut my dough beautifully. I used a plastic scraper to clean up my countertop as the Dexter scraper probably would scratch.

The logo on the scraper I received is different from the one depicted. However, the same model number is present with USA and the stylized name Dexter.

Paula Deen Signature Cutlery 7-Piece Knife Set with Block

The Paula Deen 7-Piece Knife Set is a great gift idea for anyone. The quality is there and the block is very good looking. The price was great and the set is perfect for a starter set with no useless steak knives to jack the price up!

I bought this set as an early Mothers Day gift for my mother-in-law back in March. Unfortunately, she didn't tell us until this month (May; after the return window) that she does not use the knives because she says they are too heavy for her. She is neither a small nor frail woman, but she is used to using lighter weight knives. I brought them home to use myself, since she was not going to use them. She had put them all back in their original packaging and box and they have not been used more than a couple of time since purchasing them. Today I pulled out the bread knife to slice a loaf of artisan bread and I was surprised that it took effort to slice through the crusty outside of this bread. After sawing my way through a couple of slices, I swapped it for my seven-year old Cold Steel bread knife, and the difference was night and day. So far, I am very disappointed in these Paula Deen knives. If I have a better experience with the other knives in the set, I'll up my rating to four stars. But the dull bread knife prevents me from ever giving this item five stars.

UPDATE: I've tried all the knives now and it is only the bread knife that did not meet expectations, so I've increased my rating to four stars.

We had originally bought this knife set last Christmas as a gift. I got the chance to use the knives while lending a hand in the kitchen and loved how nicely they cut. Now, eight months later when I needed to replace our knife setit seemed like a no brainer to purchase these. However I am just so disappointed with how dull they are. The chef knife in particular is very dull, even after sharpening the knives, there is little to no improvement. My wrists become sore/achy from having to apply a lot of pressure just to be able to cut through simple items like a bell pepper or onion. Sadly, I do not recommend this knives to anyone.

If you are in search of a good and affordable knife set, look into the kitchen aid knife blocks. Sharp knives and great assortment for the right price.

I have bought 3 sets of these(all ordered from the same link) one for myself, one for my sister-in-law and one for my mother-in-law. The knives themselves are excellent! I love themthey are very heavy duty. I have owned my set for a year with no issues, no need for frequent sharpening and no rust spots. The issue that I have is that the picture shows scissors, the picture of the box shows no scissorsbut shows a sharpener rod.

My set had neither the scissors or the rod, in fact it had an extra knifewhich I loved. My sister-in-laws has no scissors but has the rod, my mother-in-laws has no rod, but has the scissors. I wanted everyone to have the set that I got originally, but since every else is happy with what they received, I didn't bother to try to exchange. I wish there was some way to tell them when you order, which combo you actually wantor at least make a note telling consumers that there are different configurations.

Wallace Corsica Gold-Accent 65-Piece Flatware Set

When I ordered this set I was expecting to receive a Wallace set like the one I currently have, I was very disappointed to see that it was not the same weight as my current set and that it was stamped China which my current set does not have.

For years my 3 little kids fought over who gets the golden spoon in my house at dinner time. You see, for my wedding gifts, someone (el cheapo idiot) just gave me one golden plated spoon and told me to buy the rest. Problem was that I could not find where this person bought it. And my three children fought teeth and nails to be the special person handling it. After a while this got really old. Along came the Wallace Corsica sets. I found them on the internet but could not get them because they were back-ordered for close than a year. Finally they came back.

Pros:

1. Elegant.

2. Still shiny after 5 months of use(I bought 2 sets)

3. Light. If you are looking for the heavy American feel, like Oneida, do not buy this set.

4. Gold plated.

5. They have an oriental appearance, if you are into those things.

6. A lot less expensive than Oneida and Lenox.

Cons:

1. Made from China. Yup, even though the company was in the US.

2. Being light.

Summary:

I am again the hero for buying the right stuffs---at least for now. Like I said I got two sets from Amazon with free shipping.

I purchased this set about a year and a half ago to replace an Oneida stainless steel flatware set. The price of the set has actually decreased by $25 since I purchased it. I use 8 of the 12 settings for everyday use and have kept 4 of the settings as replacements. Fortunately, I haven't had to use any of the replacements yet. The pieces are medium weight. They don't bend easily, but will buckle under significant pressure.

This stainless steel flatware set is no comparison to real silverware, but for the stainless steel category, the Corsica is top of the line. The gold accents on the Corsica make the set very distinctive and add a bit of flair to the dining experience. The basket-weave design at the base and neck represent the hand woven nets and baskets that fishermen use to make a living. The Corsica set looks exactly like the Wallace Aegean Weave sterling silverware set that retails for around $12,000 for a 12 place setting. The Corsica set has all of the fine detailing of the Aegean Weave set at a fraction of the price.

While the description on the Amazon product summary for Corsica says to hand wash only, the website of Lifetime Sterling (direct seller of the Wallace brand) states the following about stainless steel flatware:

* When cleaning your stainless steel flatware in the dishwasher; make sure not to crowd the pieces in the baskets to ensure each piece gets thoroughly clean. Also, avoid the hot drying cycle.

* Keep stainless steel flatware in separate baskets in the dishwasher as direct contact can permanently damage the items.

* Keep detergent to a minimum, avoid lemon-scented detergents and avoid detergents containing chloride, which can damage your flatware.

Thankfully, none of the pieces have any stains or damage. The pieces of the previous Oneida set that I had would stain after just two hours when they were left in standing water.

I really like this set and the gold plating makes it looks very regal -even better than the sets used at fancy restaurants. Treat yourself with a very elegant, better than restaurant style experience when you eat at home! Every time you look at this set, you will remember the hard work that you do, just like the fishermen with the fish nets and baskets. You won't be sorry with the purchase of this set!

Orka Mastrad Ceramic Paring Knife

The design and functionality of this knife is top notch, I really like it. On Thanksgiving everyone envied it; they loved the blade-cover concept because it travels well (which we all did for the holiday and were cooking together) and stores well. However, even though everyone knows that ceramic is fragile, the next day (the second time I was using it) the tip broke right off. It is a shame but the bigger shame is that I contacted the manufacturer TWICE to find out if there is a repair warranty and NEVER got a reply. I would pay to sharpen the tip! Knife sharpening businesses will not handle ceramic blades, I tried. I was told that if my knife was manufactured by Kyosera, they would repair it.

I looked it up: Kyosera stands behind their ceramic knives and offers FREE repairs because they know these types of knives have their limits and people want to keep them for life. Even though I wasn't expecting Mastrad to replace my brand-new knife (I purchased it only a week prior), I thought they would at least reply or somehow stand by their customer.

Think more than twice before investing in any Mastrad product and as wonderfully sharp as ceramic blades are, buy from a company that understands that sometimes they need repair like Kyosera.

I saw this knife in a flyer for the home show and thought it looked pretty cool, and wanted to try it out.

I was always interested in trying out a ceramic knife, and this is my first one.

I like the idea that the blade folds/gets covered. I think the quality of the knife is a little bit lacking though. The handle has some wear / rough spots where the hinge / friction hold open thing is. (like imagine too big of a pin going into a small opening, causing wear on the area around the hole).

The packaging for this was overkill. It has a fancy magnetic box, and I do not see the purpose of that. Would rather see it in a clamshell and have the price a bit less.

Closing the blade is a little scary. Like it seems like it would be easy to slip then trying to close it. It is hard to initially get the blade to close, and there is really no good way to get a grip between the rubber handle and the hard plastic handle.

Also it does seem like it is meant to be open, more than it is to be closed. I thought it would be a nice knife to take on a picnic and put in a bag, but I do not feel it is fully secure when it is closed.

Lastly the blade itself seems pretty sharp, but not what I was expecting. I have a Shun paring knife that was crazy sharp when I got it. This one just seems sharp. So so far I am not too impressed with the ceramic aspect of the blade.

One thing I would add would be some metal somewhere in the handle so I could stick it to a magnetic knife rack while it is closed.

Not sure if I would recommend it or not at this stage. I think there are better options as far as cheap paring knives, and if you want something for a picnic or camping I would go with Kuhn Rikon Instead.Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Paring Knife, Red

If you want a knife that never needs sharpening DON'T BUY THIS ONE.

I got this knife in the mail today, and I was somewhat disappointed in two ways.

#1. I guess I did not understand from the pictures how this knife folded. I expected the blade to fold into the handle, much like a pocket knife, not the handle to fold up over the blade. I like that it protects the blade, but I expected this to be more of a space saving pocket friendly design.

#2. (and this is far worse than #1 in my opinion)

This is my first ceramic knife. I have been intrigued by them but have never bought one. I have a nice set of sharpening stones and can hone steel blades as sharp as a scalpel. Ceramic knives can't be sharpened the same way, but I thought "hey, it might be nice to have a knife I don't have to maintain." The flaw in my thinking is that this knife really isn't very sharp. It will not shave the hairs from my arm, and will just barely slice thru the skin of a tomato(you have to saw a little). This is the point at which I consider my steel knives to need a sharpening. I could have a perpetually dull knife just by not sharpening my existing knives, I certainly didn't need to purchase one that comes dull from the factory and stays dull forever. A serrated knife would be a better purchase.

This is a very well made little knife that slices veggies and the like with ease. The folding part is a bonus as it will protect the sometimes delicate ceramic blade. I love ceramic knives and don't plan on using anything else but they do have a drawback of the tip chipping off if you're not careful. With this there is less risk of that since the blade folds into the handle. I would recommend.

Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, STICH08, Titan 8 Inch Chef Knife

I bought this knife as a gift for my father (he was aprofessional chef for 25 years and he uses his kitchen knives every day). When the knife arrived I opened the package to check it out. After a few passes on my steel this knife was razor sharp and it handled beautifully during a quick "test-drive" in my kitchen. My father isn't overly critical, but I had to make sure that his was a quality knife before I gave it to him because I didn't want him to be stuck using a knife he didn't like out of a feeling of obligation. I couldn't be happier. After one week of use my father said he really likes the way the knife handles (well balanced), and he was pleased that it is a relatively light knife for its size. He also has minor issues with arthritis in his hands, and he finds the cushioned grip more comfortable than the hard handles on most knives.

I realize that there are prople that prefer heavier knives, thicker handles, etc.(like me, for instance), but I found the quality and function of this knife to well surpass its cost. For a very reasonable price Schmidt Brothers Cutlery has produced a great knife. Of course, time will tell if this knife will retian a good edge and keep performing so well, but I am confident that the high carbon steel core and titanium coating of the blade should do just fine in this regard.

Five stars all the way.

I am one of those home chef types that is satisfied with most of his tools, but this knife makes me grin ear to ear. It is lightweight, feels somewhat heavy in the handle but has been a workhorse prepping everything (it is used every day). Out of the "hanging package" it is very sharp (as anything claiming to be a knife should be), the soft grip handle is great (though the packaging cord left a permanent dimple in the handle) for wetwork. It will look a little discolored until you wash it before use (don't freak out!). Staying sharp (yes it is), looking sharp (great design, should help those lacking in the "skills" dept.). Awesome value and a excellent step up to quality cutlery for most home users.

Powell Furniture Pennfield Butcher Block Black Kitchen Island

I have had the island for a year. It changed the whole dynamic of my kitchen. We hang out there a lot more and overall made the kitchen a more functional work and play space. This is a beautiful piece of furniture that will enhance the look of your kitchen but more importantly your everyday family interactions. I got 2 stools to go along with it so we often hang out at the island.

We purchased this for our kitchen 3 weeks ago. It came in a timely manner and the delivery guys were very nice. It is pretty, sturdy and as described. The only problem is that it appears that it was dropped during shipping. A drawer is broken, a trim piece is broken, one drawer won't open and they whole right side is out of kilter. We have sent in a complaint/report but still have not heard a single thing back. You would think that if you paid over a $1000 for something that you would get it in one piece and not have to consider doing all sorts of repair work to it. I want to love it, but I'm frustrated at the lack of response from Amazon.

I ordered this island thinking it would come to my home when the delivery date was set. I have yet to receive it. I've never written a negative review in my life but I have three issues with this whole process. You have to deal with three different companys. The manufacturer (Cymax), Manna (Freight company), and Retail Express Delivery (Delivery Company).

1. Retail Express Delivery: Customer Service is not very friendly or helpful. I called to let them know that I have yet to receive the island and they told me I didnt know what I was talking about. That they never called me. Even though my phone record shows multiple phone calls from them. They were extremely rude and hostile. I have seen negative reviews for this delivery company about their bad attitudes as well as their bad deliveries.

2. Manna Freight Company: unresponsive and misleading. They made promises that were not theirs to make. I was given 3 different delivery dates and many promises. I am like most Americans and work for a living. I cannot wait around constantly for a delivery to be sent to my home. I commute an hour each way and it is unacceptable that I would be told all sorts of times by 2 different delivery companies.

3. Cymax: Either Manna lied and had my item but never sent it to Retail Express Delivery or Cymax lied and never delivered it to Manna which delayed my item. The main responsibility of the manufacturer is to ship it to the Delivery company(ies) to send to me on time.

All in all I would not recommend this item UNLESS you have time to kill and dont mind waiting for your item which I am still doing. I'm shocked Amazon would do business with this company. This makes me upset because I have a memorial for a close family member who passed away and this is the last piece we're waiting for in our kitchen. Everyone is supposed to be coming to my house afterwards. I guess that will change.

I responded to someone elses inquiry response to a prior review and figured I would add my own.

I ended up purchasing this island through wayfair during a sale comparable to this vendors current price of below $1k.

It took over a month for it to arrive, they do tell you approx 4 weeks for the delivery. Mine got routed across country and then back somehow when it drop shipped from Powell. I paid the extra $99 for the delivery team to actually bring it in the house and remove the packaging and am glad I did. It weighs almost 300 pounds and finding people to bring it in off the carport would have been a pain.

OK.. so how much assembly, very limited. When you open the box, do so on one of the narrow ends.. the shelves and granite insert are packaged in individual boxes underneath it.

The doors are pre hung. The knobs are installed in reverse. So the screw is on the outside of the drawer/knob on inside to keep the sides from bumping out in packaging.. you simply unscrew and reverse it.

Like many shelving units, there are multiple heights you can install the shelves at.. so inside the cabinet and in the open nook, you determine where to put your shelves by putting in the pegs and laying in the shelf. There are screws you can secure them with, but I did not find that necessary.

In the open center, I have my kitchenaid tilt head mixer. The mixer is too tall to allow for a shelf to go in there along with it. In the side cabinets I have my blender and food processor (KA as well). I hope this gives you an idea.

But that is your only assembly, get it in the house.. be careful of items packaged in the bottom. Reverse the knobs, install the shelves. The rest is all assembled.

I added a picture of it in my kitchen for you.. the picture with the small flower arrangement on top.

I give it 4 stars instead of 5 simply because I've only had it a month now. I have read a few other reviewers had issues with the counter top getting a split in it but one repaired it with wood putty and had no further issues. So, I'm keeping an eye out for that and will get some putty if I see one start.

It is beautiful in the kitchen and am so glad I bit the bullet and purchased it.

Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-Piece Walnut Block Knife Set, Black

We bought this set on Amazon over two years ago and absolutely love it. This was the first "complete" set we've purchased, and Wusthof's reputation did not disappoint. I'm in no way a knife expert, but I've found that the knives handle beautifully. They are comfortable to hold both for me and for my husband (who has much larger hands). After two years they still have an excellent edge. (My Litmus test for this is their ability to slice tomatoes without mangling them.) Never thought it possible, but whenever we cook away from home, I actually miss my knives. As with any long-term investment, I would definitely suggest handling them in a store to make sure they are exactly what you're looking for before purchasing online.

The knives speak for themselves. This isn't a review about the knives but the purchasing process. The knives were delivered before the expected delivery date and in great condition. Would definitely purchase again.

Messermeister Pro-Touch Jumbo Garlic Press

I like the fact that the holes are a bit bigger than other garlic presses but the handles are a bit uncomfortable. I hav big hands which should make this press more comfortable to use than for anyone with smaller hands. Overall, this is a good unit. It was/is a replacement to one just like it. The other one broke at the hinge when pressing 2 cloves of garlicafer many years of use.

This is the one you want if you use a lot of garlic.

I bought several for gifts after owning mine for years without breaking.

It does okay, so it's what I use while I wait for someone to make the perfect one (i.e., an all-metal version of the Kuhn Easy-Clean). On the plus side, it's solid metal and feels like nothing is going to go wrong with it, ever. Cons are that the holes are a little big, so you end up with something closer to minced garlic without so much juice (though some people seem to prefer that); and like all with this self-cleaning design, the top handle swings all the way over, which is a pain when you're trying to rearrange the bits that have squished around the edges and give them another press.

I bought mine about 6 years ago. It is extremely durable. Two solid pieces of metal connected by a durable hinge. The plastic handles are removable to allow for ease of cleaning.

There is space for one large clove, or two smaller ones.

A bit of force is necessary to force the garlic through this press.

I am sorry to say the photo did not represent the product in its entirety. This flatware looks as presented in the current photo however if you turn it sideways you would see there is no back to it -if you turn in over completely you will see that it is concave. It is very lightweight and small in size it is very small for an adult male. It is a facade of nice looking silverware. I suggest that a side/back view of flatware should be a standard.

This is a decent and somewhat lightweight set. I would consider it a starter set, as others have mentioned, it is not very heavy or substantial. I have very small hands but someone larger might not like the feel of this flatware. This is a great price for a set of 12 flatware, though, and I must mention it does come with serving spoons, slotted spoon, butter knife, which is a nice addition.

My husband ordered this set for me the other day. It arrived today, and I will be returning it tomorrow. Most of the knives and a few forks have bluish/grey stains on one side of the handles the sides that touched each other in the original product box. In addition, two of the knives have small rust spots on one or both sides of the handle. It seems the material beneath the surface is of poor quality, and the flatware is of very light weight. The top coat is clearly of very poor quality as well. I wonder which metals the product is made of. Overall, this set is a great disappointment.

Fair price for the set, but not very heavy weight. Looks nice on the table though. This was purchased for my kids, and they liked the style, but again the weight was a little light. I am comparing to Reed and Barton, which I have a preference for, and was hoping this set would be comparabale. Cambridge does make some nice sets, as I have seen them in the past with nice weight....

Seville Classics Expandable Bamboo Cutlery Drawer Organizer

We have 2 of these and are quite happy with the appearance and size. It's not the sturdiest, but then again, we don't throw our utensils into the drawer and hardly will need to take this out of the drawer again. Given that, it should last. We've owned 1 for a year and recently purchased a second one for another drawer.

I give this 4 stars as the packaging in the box is surprisingly sparse. Usually, deliveries from Amazon are packaged well and we rarely get damaged goods from them. This time it also wasn't damaged, but I think we were lucky. There was only a thin layer of packing paper between the box and the tray. Amazon should've shipped in a slightly larger box so they can properly pad the tray. Amazon has a good return policy, but who wants to bother bringing it back to UPS.

Side was broken off when it arrived. Rather than go through the trouble of sending in back I glued it back on, that worked fine. Later the other side came apart. Ugh!

I found this exact same item at my local Home Depot for $15. I liked the bamboo look, it seemed sturdy, and I loved that it was expandable. When I got it home and put my utensils in it, though, I found that each compartment took up way too much space. The middle compartments (the ones that are fixed) are far too wide to simply hold a set of spoons or forks. They could have fit five compartments where there are three across, thus allowing you to put all of your utensils in those middle compartments and to save the two fixed upper compartments and the expandable compartments for other kitchen tools. My silverware set comes with two sizes of forks, two sizes of spoons, and butter knives, as do most silverware sets, I believe. With the set up of this tray, I have to fill up all of the fixed compartments with my basic utensils, leaving me only the two expandable compartments for anything else like measuring spoons, etc. Because the tray itself is also very large, there's not really any other space left in my drawer where I could add another small tray to help with organization. Overall, if a drawer organizer is going to be this large and take up a whole drawer, it should come with more compartments to really organize the things most people keep in their cutlery drawers. I give it two stars because while it didn't work for me, it might work for someone who needs an organizer for drawer that won't contain a typical silverware set. I would give it more stars because of this possibility, but as others have mentioned, it's a bit flimsier than I expected once the expanders are pulled out.

Zyliss Garlic Slicer

This is a nifty little tool for slicing garlic cloves quickly. It gives fairly uniform, and faster, results than I've been able to achieve using just a knife and my (carefully curled!) fingers. It's really a miniature mandoline with a little holder to keep your fingers clear of the blade, and a compartment underneath to hold the slices. I don't know if it could be used for anything else.

It does have some drawbacks: the main issue I have found is that there is no way to adjust the thickness of the garlic slices it produces, and there are times when I'd like them to be thinner. Also, the compartment that holds the garlic cloves has a tendency to pop out of the main unit, if you're not careful.

Slicing garlic cloves with this tool is pretty quick; the most time-consuming part of using it is peeling the garlic cloves before placing them into the slicer. Smacking them with a knife blade to loosen the peel doesn't work very well, because if the cloves are squished they don't slice as well.

It's pretty easy to clean, as long as you're mindful of the sharp blade that is fixed in the main body of the tool. I recommend it for producing consistent slices of garlic.

Reasonably good quality, and very effective. I'm dinging it one star because the top sliding element tends to pop out of place until I figured out the right way to hold it down while slicing while also NOT slicing my fingers. (Grab the slider with thumb and forefinger and push down on the longitudinal "shelves" while pushing it back and forth.

Both my wife and I are garlic lovers. For many years, we've used the 2-in-1 style garlic press/garlic slicers. The first one we bought lasted us several years, but finally needed replacement. The Martha Stewart branded press/slicer lasted for 3 uses before it splintered at the hinge. First off, this knife set is great because there are only 6--not 10 or 15 or 20--just 6 knives. And that's really all you need (read Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential" and you'll learn that most professional cooks only use a few knives to complete their many and varied cooking tasks). Also, the knives are petite yet solid. No hefting a slab of tempered steel just to chop parsley. Nope. These combine the perfect balance of strength AND lightness. As far as aesthetics, their orange handles are flashy (in a good way) and the bamboo block is attractive and slender, which is another advantage of the set only including 6 pieces. Buy them and enjoy them!

These knives are wonderful. I have had them for a couple months now and they still cut through everything like butter!! I have yet to sharpen them as they are still very sharp. I researched a lot of knives before buying because I wanted good knives that would last, however I did not want to go broke. I love this set because it does not come with a bunch of knives that you will never use! I also love the handles, as they are small, easy to grip and do not slip in your hands. This set was exactly what we were looking for. It's exactly the right amount of "essential" knives, without getting into the ridiculous one-time-use knives. All of the blades came very sharp out of the packaging, as they should, and the balance on the blades feels appropriate. The handles, while definitely bright, do not appear as neon and iridescent on my counter as they do in the pictures. The material for the handle is interesting, as it meets a nice blend between sturdy, yet grippy and pleasant to feel. I have been fastidious on cleaning the knives, and no signs of rust or any wear after 2 months of constant use. My only wish is that the block, made of bamboo, was a little bit heavier and provided a little more solid of a base to the knives. Pulling the knives out will have a tendency to jostle the block.
