Montana Knife 10" Cook's Knife with White Poly Handle

Montana Knife 10' Cook's Knife with White Poly HandleGood balance, resharpens easily, fits hand nicely, great value for the price, hard to find any knives at all in this size.

This is the knife used in professional kitchens, that do a lot of good serious, unpretentious work. No frills. Great steel.

I just received my knife. This is a BIG knife and I have small hands, but I found it very easy to use. It feels good to cut with and it cuts easily and well. The handle feels secure. The blade is thin but does not feel flimsy at all. Supposedly the knife is dishwasher safe; I rarely use my dishwasher but I haven't ever seen a new stainless steel object emerge from a dishwasher the same as it went in. The hardness is good, hard enough to hold a fine edge but soft enough to retain some flexibility and not resist sharpening. Do not put this knife in a drawer with other knives; even if that is what you do with your knives, this knife is too big. Put it away carefully by itself or on a magnetic rack.

Wusthof Classic Steakhouse Steak Knives, Set of 4

Wusthof Classic Steakhouse Steak Knives, Set of 4By far the best steak knives I have ever had! For years we had the Wusthof Grand Prix II steak knives, which are fine knives. But the Steakhouse design is far superior because of a thinner, sharper blade. I'm sure the Steakhouse ones will require more care in sharpening because of the fluted blade, but they cut without pressure, keeping the juices in the meat. The straight part of the blade required a little touch up with a diamond hone right out of the box because of blade thinness. But WOW!

These knives are absolutely amazing. They are a little longer and thicker than a traditional steak knife. They are probably among the best steak knives made today. I would recommend these in a heartbeat. They are supposed to be exclusive to Williams-Sonoma and can also be found on their site for a much higher premium than seen on Amazon.

Classic 10" Chef's Knife

Classic 10' Chef's KnifeMy dad owns a broad assortment of knives: some German, some Japanese, some chinese. One of his santoku's is sharper (though more plain in appearance) than his Shun santoku, but it was a gift from a Japanese business partner and the guy who sharpens his knives was jealous and wanted to know where it originated. Ultimately, he has quite a hodgepodge collection of knives that have been accumulated over the years some nice some not, some even falling apart from wear.

I'm a pretty young guy (22), but came into an absurd amount of money recently. When it came time to look at buying some knives I decided to buy something I'd be able to enjoy for a very long time (hopefully my lifetime) and to do it before I crowded my kitchen with knives I wished I hadn't purchased. Shuns aren't the nicest knives under the sun, but in the retail market, they're the best you'll find.

Having used my dad's single Shun Classic 7in Hollow Ground Santoku for some time, when it came time to invest in a nice set of edges, I thought of Shun first. Then I went out and researched all the main competitors and tested their knives, Henckels, Wusthofs, and Calphalon. I only tested the high end knives from these respective companies, so I have nothing to say on their cheap counterpart editions.

Compared to Henckels and Wusthofs which are still very fine knives I prefered the edge and construction of Shuns. Shuns are just that extra little bit sharper. When you go to slice into something with a mild skin you notice the difference. When you touch a tomato with a Shun it just slides right in, no sawing, no pressure. The same is true for things like sausage, the outer wrapping cuts before you apply any pressure. Other than that slight bit of cutting power, you probably won't notice the difference. I also tried out some Calphalons which I was actually quite impressed with. They're every bit as sharp as Shuns and quite a bit cheaper. If you're on a budget, but still looking for a great set of knives, seriously give them a look. The only reason I picked Shun over Calphalon was aesthetics. If this isn't important to you, by all means buy the Calphalons.

The first thing I tested this knife out on was some green onions, and what a world of difference between it and my bargin bin Henckel. No effort perfect slices.

This isn't the ideal knife for this purpose, but my Santoku has yet to arrive so I gave this blade a go at mincing garlic. With something as sticky as garlic, the blades steel didn't help at all with keeping things from sticking, so while the design is great, don't expect miracles. This still went very well and I appreciated that a 10" knife can still be so light weight and quick for this kind of work.

Next I used it to score a flank steak to prepare it for a marinade. I actually had to be very careful not to put any pressure on the knife and pull very gently to keep from slicing too deep. During this process I must have accidentally knicked the ziplock I was using to marinate in because it kept leaking all over the counter and I thought I just hadn't shut it, turns out I put a half inch slit in it without even realizing by accident while the knife was just sitting on the cutting board. BE CAREFUL WITH THESE KNIVES THEY ARE SCAREY SHARP!

Finally I used the knife to slice the cooked flank steak nice and thin on a bias. This is the perfect job for a knife like this. Flank steak can be quite tough, but this was done without excessive sawing. The blade made quick easy work of my steak (another first in my kitchen).

These are expensive knives, and compared to Calphalons, overpriced. The blades are beautiful and among the sharpest you can find anywhere. If you have the means I recommend them, you won't be disappointed.

I was amazed by the quality from the first cut wich slid through a bannana like a gentle breeze. Did a comparison on a cucumber with a Kyocera ceramic blade and an inexpensive pairer. The high grade knives are worth the extra money. And this one is great looking too!

Bullet AK47 Ice Cube Tray

Bullet AK47 Ice Cube TrayThis product is EXTREMELY deceiving. The actual mold is very small and it's hard as hell to get the bullets (which are as wide as a wooden pencil) out because they crack. The bullets aren't big at all, maybe 1/8th the size of a normal ice cube.

STAY AWAY!

the ice tray is very small and will look nothing like the pictures shown. it is designed in a very poor way and all the ice "bullets" will stick to one another. it is also a hard plastic tray and will probably break at least half the bullets when you try to remove them. i would have been much happier if it made a single bullet that was bigger and you could tell it was a bullet rather than long thin ice cubes.. don't waste your money!

Buy Bullet AK47 Ice Cube Tray Now

The product does not work as described; the tray is flimsy and does not give you anything that resembles the sellers pictures. The bullets will likely freeze together because the case will not seal properly. Pair this terrible product with worse shipping and you have a completely negative experience on your hands.

I bought these about a year and a half ago for my husband who is big time into hunting. The idea is cute...but the product just doesn't work. The bullets break when you take them out of the mold...and the few that don't break don't actually look like bullets. They look like long slivers of ice. I paid way more than they cost on Amazon...so unfortunately I am extra disappointed. I paid way too much...and the product doesn't work.

This shape is great for what my son needs to use it for...a narrow necked vase-like bottle that needs ice cubes, and the shape is just as advertised. The problem is that the top and the bottom of the mold do not keep together very well. Once I fill it with water and put the lid on, water drips out as I carry it to the freezer, because the top does not lock down tightly. It must be kept perfectly level (which is difficult to do in my freezer), or it will lose enough water to affect the shape of the ice. Except for that little glitch, the shape comes out as advertised, and freezing time is very quick.

BergHOFF Magnetic Knife Rack

BergHOFF Magnetic Knife Rack, 12-InchThere are really 3 features one needs in these:

1. how strong is the magnet? -> plenty strong in this one

2. how easy is it attach it -> 2 screws

3. How it looks? Nice black & stainless steel

5 stars.

I've owned several sets of these in several houses. They mount easily to drywall and with a little care to tiled surfaces, just ensure you use the correct bits (see uploaded picture). When tightening the screws, be aware that the plastic that stops the screw from going in any further may break very easily, which to be fair only happened on one hole in all the units I've owned. They are attractive and hold the knives well including my heavy meat cleaver. Make sure the knives are dry before mounting them. This is so much better than losing the edge to a wooden block or by being knocked around in a drawer.

Eureka Arlington 521 Zipper Chest

Eureka Arlington 521 Zipper ChestWhew! I finally found a suitable flatware chest! After a couple failed attempts at chests that claimed they'd fit at least 16 place settings and extra serving pieces required, I am happy to say the search is over! If you're still searching for a flatware chest, you know how hard it is to find one that happens to fit that magic number of place settings and all the serving pieces you have in your collection. There are 3 Reed & Barton chests of this sort. I ordered the "Arlington" because it was slightly larger than I needed (16 place settings and lots of serving pieces), and I'm glad I did. Although I do have a little room to spare, this set does the trick. Regardless of the leatherette construction, it's of surprisingly nice quality and has heavy duty zippers, canvas, and snaps for closure. Well worth the $100 I paid for it (Neiman Marcus and plenty of others, charge lots more).

My 12 setting silver set had overwhelmed the original wood chest long ago. Serving pieces, butter knives, fish service, and dessert spoons were being stored separately. It was a nuisance to set the table. This chest has ample room for a twelve piece setting with all the extras. It is well made and completely covered inside and out. The leatherette is unlikely to scratch your table or buffet. It is light enough to easily carry to wherever you are setting up your service. A year in, my silver is not tarnishing, so it is ready for use at a moment's notice. I purchased a second one for my good stainless set. I would not recommend stacking them as the cover is soft. You would risk damage when you pull one over the other. I have deep adjustable shelves in my buffet and I have each chest on a shelf of its own. This has freed up drawer space for other miscellaneous small serving items (e.g, napkin rings) that used to be boxed and forgotten at the back of those shelves.

Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric Sharpener

Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric SharpenerI purchased this Wusthof Electric Knife Sharpener since I'm getting behind in keeping many of my kitchen knives sharp. I have used a GATCO 5pc Stone Sharpener Gatco Knife Sharpener for years to sharpen my kitchen knives since it uses a clamp on guide to sharpen any knife I own. However this electric sharpener is not as versatile as my Gatco or other electric ones that tell you they will handle Asian knives or boning knives that should be sharpened at a 15° angle. And you can't use the Wusthof for serrated knives. But for sharpening to a 19 to 20° angle for European or American chefs' knives, this Wusthof will handle it (and well). I wonder how much more it would have cost Wusthof to place another set of grinding wheels for a 15° angle? The help line at Wusthof tells me while I cannot use the sharpener on my Santuku knives I can use it on boning knives? Well, I don't buy that advice.

I like the fact that I run each knife between the slots between the two wheels. First the coarse wheel slot then the fine slot. Done. Next knife. Easy. But I have a tendency to pull the knife through the slot a bit too fast and the knife skips on the wheel just a bit. I guess the reason why I can't easily sharpen knives other ways is that by the time I sharpen one edge the other edge develops burrs. Sharpening both sides at the same time seems to be the easier way to get a sharp knife. I agonized just a bit over whether a hollow ground sharpened blade edge while sharper will lead me to keep sharpening or tuning the knife because others say that this type of edge tends to be weaker than a traditional edge (as the argument goes). So far, I have not found that to be the case.

PROS:

Puts a hollow ground edge that is sharper than a traditional straight edge.

The Wusthof electric sharpener leaves a very sharp and very smooth edge on my knife, even smoother than with the sharpening stones of my Gatco.

I can sharpen or tune up my knife drawer full of knives in short time.

CONS:

Cannot use it to sharpen serrated, Asian (Santuku, Chinese Chef Knife), and I would add boning knives.

Tends not to sharpen about a quarter inch close to the heel of some knifes because of the design and placement of the interlocking wheels. But will you or I notice this when we use the knife? So far, I have not noticed it.

I've used several sharpening systems over the years, both manual and electric.

If you wish to spend the time with oil and stone, you will get the best edge,

but only if you learn the proper techniques and are very methodical.

The Wusthof 2908 is the best electric sharpener I have used.

It is quick and precise. Follow the instructions correctly and

you will get an edge that is almost as good as an oil and stone sharpening,

in one eighth the time.

I just finished my Sabatier set in about 15 minutes,

a job that would take about 2 hours with my Ouachita stone set.

Other electic sharpeners use grinding wheels that sharpen

each side of the blade seperately. The Wusthof 2908 system uses a set of

diamond impregnated steels that sharpen both sides at once,

with a hollow ground pattern.

It is expensive, but the three year warranty and the reputation

of Wusthof for quality cutlery should mean that you will get

many years of quick, efficient sharpening.

Well sharpened knives are safer and make cooking more enjoyable.

Buy Wusthof Precision Edge Diamond Electric Sharpener Now

If you want your expensive Wusthof knives to be as sharp as they were the first time you used them then get yourself one of these. Nothing worse than a dull knife. And if you already put out the money for Wusthof then you and I both know that cooking is more than just eating. I have tried other non electrical sharpeners only to find that they do not get the blade to the original razor sharpness. This will!

I have a Chefs Choice electric sharpener and it is pretty good. However, it never completely satisfied me in terms of its performance in certain aspects. It scratched some of my Wusthof knives and while leaving them sharp, they were not as sharp as I expected. Ergo, knowing Wusthofs quality, I decided to go ahead and splurge on this sharpener. Wow!! am I glad I did. My first experience was with a knife I felt was not as sharp as it could be, after reading the instructions and then running it through stage 2 (honing) for four strokes it is now scary sharp. This is quite an upgrade. The only caveats are, it doesn't do serrated or Asian knives. However, it does a fabulous job on the fine edge knives. Highly recommended.

I have owned 2 Chef's Choice knife sharpeners in the past which worked fairly well; however, they wear out relatively quickly especially for the cost. This sharpener on the other hand sharpens better and quicker than any Chef's Choice product I have owned and it's easier to use (sharpens both sides of the knife at the same time). I don't know about the longevity, but so far, an excellent product.

Bella Cucina 17-Pc Rocket Blending System 10029

Bella Cucina 17-Pc Rocket Blending System 10029I have been looking for a blender/food processor/blending system that could hold up to the ingredients I put in my smoothies, and this one works like a charm, even when my ingredients include big chunks of nectarines or walnut halves. All of my smoothies have come out smooth, not chunky, and this is even replacing my Cuisinart mini-prep as go-to kitchen appliance of choice.

Other things I love about this blender:

There's a locking mechanism that allows you to set it to blend and walk away.

With the multiple blending cups, I never have to worry about having a clean one handy. I wash the blades by hand, but put the cups and lids in the top rack of the dishwasher.

A screw-on cap is included, so I can take my smoothies with me if I don't have time to drink it at home.

Finally, my smoothie recipe (which I now consume every morning):

1 peach or nectarine, in big chunks

handful of fresh blueberries, if available (otherwise, frozen)

handful of fresh raspberries

1/3 c. lowfat cottage cheese

1/3 c. plain lowfat yogurt

5-10 walnut halves

Blend.

When you get this item for less than half the price of a Magic Bullet, I was tempted to buy this Overall it is a good blender and does pretty much most of the things which a Magic bullet can do, but my only disappointment is that it is not built well, here are some details:

Plus:

* Does the job well, but not as good as the Magic bullet. something which would take 1 minute on the Magic bullet would probably take about 1.5 minutes

* Poorly platic quality on the mixer jars The jars have lost their shape to a slight degree after a few times in the dishwasher can't these guys put some decent plastic in their jars ?

* Poor quality gaskets and sealing There is a small rubber gasket (sealant) which seals the blender jar and the blade the gasket is so poorly designed and build that it sometimes leaks and spills liquids into the blender, sometimes drops off into the contents of the blender

Overall, my suggestion is that if you are planning to use this to make some quick smoothies & shakes go ahead and buy this at $17 it is worth every dollar, no need to pay $60 for a Magic bullet.

But if you are planning some heavy kitchen work stay away from this blender you will have to trash this in a 2-3 months.

~ Update: 12/30/2007 ~

If you are planning to buy this blender: I just saw that the price on this item was $59.99 (offered by Macys) it is a ripoff by macys. Try looking elsewhere on the net for prices around $20-$25, or hopefully amazon will offer this directly as better prices.

We received this as a Christmas present 10 months ago and we've used it almost daily since. In that time, the only problem has been a gasket on one of the blending heads coming off. This thing cleans itself very easily: just put in some water and a bit of soap and let it run for a minute. It's fast, it can make small batches, and it cleans easy.

I like it.

Apparantly I didn't keep the cup in the perfect position the first time I used it and it is no longer usable. I would say that it's quality isn't very good if you can't get more than one use out of it.

Tobacco Pipe 3-in-1 Tool - Classic Wood & Stainless Steel - Tamper, Reamer & Pick

Stainless Steel Tobacco Pipe Reamer TamperI've had mine for years, and aside from nearly losing it several times, I have no complaints. The actual tamper can come unscrewed after years of pocket wear, but a drop of thread locker takes care of that. It's much better built than the typical "pipe tool," and is so much better than dirtying up your pocket knife or carrying around a 10-penny nail for the purpose.

This is a useful tool for a pipe smoker. It's exactly what I expected. I think you know what you're getting when you buy this product.

BOSKA Holland Stainless Steel Cheesy Knife

Boska Holland Monaco Collection Stainless Steel Cheesy Knife for Semi Soft and Soft Cheesegood handle, grips well, cuts cheese well, better is chilled a bit when cutting brie. Nothing bad to say about it.

I love the balance and construction of this knife, but soft cheeses will stick to it, albeit slightly. I use it on denser cheeses such as Roquefort, gorgonzola and ricotta salata with good results.

This is a fairly large knife as cheese knives go it's a tad over eleven inches long. But the design ensures a good balance, and even my small hands are comfortable gripping it.

One thing I love is the blade: it's super sharp and will cut through semi-hard and even hard cheeses like pecorino romano with ease. I think the problem it has with soft cheeses is the blade needs to be ground more concave. The company makes a special knife for some of the creamier cheeses like brie and Camembert that may be better suited if that is the type of cheese you want to use this knife on: Boska Holland Monaco Collection Stainless Steel Brie Cheese Knife.

However, even the best cheese knife is going to have soft cheeses cling to it. This one minimizes the clinging, but certainly does not eliminate it completely. Personally I am pleased with the performance, but I can understand folks who will not be as happy. In fact, one of the reasons I am writing this review is to emphasize the limitations as well as why I personally love this knife.

Another thing I love is how easy it is to clean and keep sanitized. I never machine wash mine, preferring to submerge it in hot, soapy water made from antiseptic dish detergent, wipe down and thoroughly clean and hand dry. Do be careful because as another review warned the blade is sharp and you can easily cut yourself if not careful. When washing I always have a grip on the knife with one hand so I know where the blade is in soapy water.

Cheese aside, this knife is also perfect for thinly slicing vegetables and fruits. In fact, it is the knife I grab when I want to slice tomatoes even overly ripe ones thinly. I also find myself using it when I want to thin-slice red onions, which have always given me trouble. Not so with this knife.

Soft cheese may cling to it, but this is still an outstanding cheese knife that I use for much more than cheese. I am one hundred percent happy with mine.

Dynatec Expand A Drawer/ Cutlery Tray

Dynatec Expand A Drawer/ Cutlery TrayThis item would have been perfect for my cutlery drawer! Except that in the product description it says this item is "about 16 inches long" when it is actually over 17 inches long.... my kitchen drawer is 16.5 inches long. The other dimensions were true to product.

The plastic for this drawer was cheap and very thin. If you're expecting rubbermaid-type thicker construction you will be disappointed.

Buy Dynatec Expand A Drawer/ Cutlery Tray Now

This product is exactly as described. It is easy to clean and is, of course, expandable. When the two expandable sides are closed someone who didn't know better probably wouldn't even notice they were there, but of course most people AREN'T going to buy this to keep it closed. I have a very wide but shallow cutlery drawer so I have both sides expanded and still have a couple inches on either side (not normal, I assure you). Some people may only be able to expand both sides an inch or so, but rather than have two small compartments on either side it is better to expand only one side as far as you can so that kitchen utinsels fit more easily.

I expect this product to last a long time and will probably buy more, one for one of my desk drawers and all those pens, pencils, highlighters, etc. and I may buy a couple to stack under the sink in my bathroom since there's NOT a lot of room in my bathroom for anything, but of course I have A LOT of makeup, makeup brushes, lotions, sprays, nail polishes, cotton balls, Q-Tips, etc. that could all use some organization.

This cutlery divider is not bad for the price but I was not impressed with the expansion sides. You simply slide them out to the left or right. The expansion sides have notches at the top and bottom that are supposed to serve as "stops" to set the amount of expansion you want. Unfortunately, these notches are so shallow that they don't hold the position worth a darn. Once you set the size you want, I recommend some white duct tape to hold them in place.

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 10-inch Serrated Super Slicer Knife

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 10-inch Serrated Super Slicer KnifeWhat else is there to say? Yes it's expensive but it will last a lifetime if cared for properly. I have been buying one knife at a time too complete my set.

The problem I was solving was cutting large loaves of thick-crusted bread, for which the Wusthof 8" serrated-edge bread knife I already had just wasn't quite large enough it's best if the knife edge is at least 1.5 times longer than the loaf is wide. I wanted a knife with a full forged blade with bolster, the traditional pattern, as the stamped-sheet blades aren't quite as good, and I prefer to buy one good knife. Going to 9" was marginal and almost as expensive, so I opted for the full 10" blade. It works very well, and the 8" knife now gets little use.

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 3-Piece Starter Set

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 3-Piece Starter SetI purchased these knives over two years ago, and I am still loving them! As soon as I opened the box I was impressed with how well balanced they are, and how sharp they are. And although other reviews have some complaints about the fact that these Henckels knives are made in China rather than the more expensive ones made in Germany, I have had no problems. They have remained super sharp over the years (yet to be sharpened a single time) and although they have been put into the dishwasher (against both the Mfr recommendation and my own wishes) I have not seen any rust spots as other reviews have mentioned.

They are still excellent and I much prefer them over the cutco brand because of how well balanced they are. My only complaint is that I wish I would have purchased a larger set with a block back in the beginning because I now know how high quality they are. I want the bread knife, santoku, and steak knives to match at a minimum, but to purchase them individually is similar in price to purchasing a set, and I feel like purchasing the full set would be a waste (since I already have these three). What I am saying, is they truly are high quality--go ahead and buy the full set if you need them!

After first opening the package I was very impressed with the weight, the feel of the knives and how extremely sharp they were. Now that I've used them for a few months I'm still impressed with how well they cut but I'm starting to notice rust spots. I have never put them in the dishwasher nor let them soak in water for any length of time. At first it was only the smaller of the knives and though I wasn't happy I could have received a single bad blade. Now all three are showing small rust spots. I have owned much less quality knives and not taken nearly as good care of them and non of the previous sets have rusted. These knives are not worth the money you pay for them. I'm still giving two stars due to the fact that the knives are well balanced and sharp but for this price I would like them to last too.

Yes, yes I read all the reviews bemoaning this set was made in China but bought it anyway and by far, this is the best set of knives I've ever owned, the weight and feel in the hand is superb, and when I first cut vegetables I applied the same pressure I used with my previous knife and the blade shot through the carrots making a bang on my cutting board startling me due to the sharpness and ease of cutting with a real blade. I appears Henckels is mandating strict quality controls in the china facility hey every magically precise iPhone is built in China.

After buying a great serrated JA Henckels knife and having it for a couple years without any problems, I decided to buy these. I've owned them for about four months now. The knives are used about five times a week and always hand washed.

Pros:

VERY sharp They cut through almost everything without any effort. This is the biggest factor for me when buying a knife (obviously). Cuts great through carrots, potatoes, and all fruits and veggies I've tried with it.

Fit great in my hand I have smaller hands and they fit just fine. My husband can also use them without any problems and he has normal sized hands

Look cool

Well balanced

Cons:

Has one very slight discolored spot after a few months of use Looked rust colored, but washed off alright and hasn't come back.

Price I think that the price is a little much. Then again, you get what you pay for.

Overall I would recommend these knives as long as you intend on taking proper care by hand washing and not letting them soak for very long in water.

*UPDATE*

Well, it's been almost two years that I've been using at least one knife twice a week and I have to say that I still love them. I usually let them air dry and once in a while they soak in the sink and I haven't seen any problems with rust. They also are still quite sharp.

These knives were a gift for my daughter, and her excited response was, "I can slice a tomato with no effort!" She reports that the feel of the knives is great.

Now Designs Waffleweave takeout Dishcloths, midnight/light taupe/oliveI loved these colors and the great packaging, but these pretty little washcloths didn't hold up to two washings. They snag easily, bleed color, and shrink up.

PRO Poly Handle 20" Pizza Rocker

PRO Poly Handle 20' Pizza RockerSimply perfect for cutting pizzas like the pros. High quality, superb functionality, and made in Massachusetts to boot.

My family makes pizza once a week, and until now used a 4" pizza wheel to cut the pizza, which always wrecked the toppings. I looked for bigger pizza wheels, but finally decided to go with the best. This pizza rocker was totally worth it.

we use this knife for chopping salads, spinach, sliced meat,,,, and pizza. After 6+ months still sharp like new. Highly recommend it.

note the knife is too big for the average drawer so I screwed mounted a fairly strong magnet disk under a cabinet -this keeps the knife handy and yet out of sight!

Got this as a gift for my father-in-law & he absolutely loves it. He said it was a little big, but he agreed that the smaller ones would not have worked as well. He also uses it to cut up herbs & veggies that he puts on his pizzas. If you give this as a gift, make sure you open it 1st & inspect & clean it thoroughly. This one came with sticky residue on the blade as if it had a large sticker on it at one time. It also had some fingerprint smudges along the blade. So again, clean it & if you know how, use a whetstone & give it a little better edge. The edge it has is good enough, but I personally like knives (& cutters) to have an ultra sharp & durable edge.

Global GF-36 - 8 inch, 20cm Heavyweight Vegetable Knife

Global GF-36 - 8 inch, 20cm Heavyweight Vegetable KnifeThe first time I used this knife, I knew from that second that this would be one of the most treasured items in my kitchen. I LOVE it. I have Henckels & Wusthof knives, but this knife is by far the best. When I prepare a meal, my favorite part is when I get to use my knife. I cannot possibly express to you how truly wonderful this knife really is. Buy it! Buy it! BUY IT! You won't be sorry (except when you aren't paying attention and cut yourself)! I only wish I had the money to purchase a whole set; I will one day...

Update: I also purchased the "Global 10-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel" and WOW it's amazing. If your knife is a little on the dull side, run it over the sharpener a few times, and BAM! It's as sharp as it was when you bought it. Simply amazing.

I own 30+ kitchen knives in many different shapes and sizes from a dozen different manufacturers and this is by far my favorite knife. I don't know how it does it, but this knife slices so effortlessly through vegetables, fruits, and meat it's almost unbelievable. Worth every penny.

This knife is quite a bit lighter than you would expect anything with the word "heavyweight" in its name to be, but it's plenty strong, quite sizable and feels good in the hand. I still think a cheap, heavy cleaver is the ideal tool for melons, squash and sweet potatoes, but this is definitely an excellent chopper that will make short work of any conventional fruit or vegetable. It takes an edge suitable for paper thin slices as well, but it's not hollow ground or fluted, so they'll cling like crazy. I can imagine its relative straightness would make it an ideal candidate for performing that fancy daikon unrolling trick in the hands of someone much more skilled than I, however.

It's also worth mentioning that this knife will easily travel through over half of a large onion with little more than a flick of the wrist, so keep those fingers tucked under, and invest in some safety-toed boots.

This forged Global Vegetable knife may have you forgetting your chefs' knives. It is incredibly versatile, well balanced, though hefty. It can navigate large vegetables with ease. Perhaps the best of both the German and Japanese knife worlds

as all global products this one too is amazing. Well balanced and razor sharp out of the box. It does it's job well everytime. I use it for slicing chopping and dicing vegetables. If you buy yourself a honing rod and use it this knife will only need sharpened on rare occasions for the home cook. I use mine everyday and hone it everyday and only sharpened it once in 8 months of use.
