CounterArt Winter Friends Big Cheese Glass Board with Cheese Knife, 14-1/4-InchThis turned out to be a wonderful purchase. It's so charming & colorful, really adds a lot to my white kitchen. Plus the size is so perfect to chop up just a few veggies or fruit pieces.

Cuisinart Triple-Riveted Santoku Knife, Red Handle

Cuisinart Triple-Riveted Santoku Knife, Red HandleI received this knife as a Christmas present, and it instantly became my "go-to knife." I frequently choose it over my Wusthof set due to it's versatility and when I cut fish, it does not stick to the sides. Wonderful knife.

I love this knife. It's perfectly weighted and sized. I hate using large knives that are longer than my cutting board as I can't seem to keep control over them. This one is perfect. I can chop small things like celery and large things like a spaghetti squash. It's the only knife I need. I used it for two years now exclusively and it's still sharp. Love it!

I love this little knife. Be aware that the blade is only about 5 inches long, but that is what I wanted. I will buy it in the larger size when it becomes available.

Very sharp, thin and light. I used to cut hard veges like celery, carrots and to slice very thin chicken breast. It is very easy to handle. Great knife in the kitchen!!!

Want Cuisinart Triple-Riveted Santoku Knife, Red Handle Discount?

i didn't want to spend money on china made steel knives but i bought the 4" at a department store to try. i was really suprised how good the handling of the knife is so i bought 2 of this 5" ones. 1 for me and 1 for mom. the knife is sharp and easy to handle for smaller cutting and slicing. almost slice off my finger nails a couple of the times because it was so sharp.

as every knives, they should be dried after washing to prevent rusting or water residue on the blade. and i would recommend washing this knife by hand, dry and put away for lasting use.

Wusthof 9755Classic 2-Piece Knife Starter Set

Wusthof 9755Classic 2-Piece Knife Starter SetThere are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.

This set includes an 8 inch chef's knife, and a 3 ½ inch paring knife.

The 8 inch chef's knife, is a great knife. Wusthof offers three sizes of chef's knives, 6, 8 and 10 inch. For most home cooks, I think the 8 inch knife is the best choice. The 6 inch is a bit small for bigger jobs, but the 10 inch is too big for most jobs. While the 8 inch isn't perfect for all uses, if you are only buying one size chef's knife (and most people only buy one), this is the one I would recommend.

As for the 3 ½ inch paring knife, this knife falls into the category of overkill for me. Most cooks will get by just fine with the 4 ½ inch utility knife. There is really no notable difference in size for the vast majority of applications between the 3 ½ inch paring knife and the 4 ½ inch utility knife. I prefer the 4 ½ inch utility knife, but the 3 ½ inch paring knife will do the trick for most tasks.

This set is a good deal; however, if compiling a set myself, I would include the chef's knife and the 4 ½ inch utility knife. Judge for yourself.

In June of 2003, I wrote a blurb praising this starter set. My opinion from then hasn't changed, except the last part where I wrote that I couldn't justify Wusthof's price for those knive you don't use every day. Well, I lied. Since then I have replaced virtually every knife I had then with a Wusthof. Whether I was dicing veggies, carving a roast, or simply cutting up a chicken, I just got to the point where I could no longer tolerate using an inferior knife for the job; so I upgraded as I went along. All my old knives went into my camping box (you're supposed to be "roughing it" when camping, right?).

The knives in this set are superb. The problem is that after using them, you are liable to do as I did and spend lots of money later. Be warned.

I received as a gift a set of three Wusthof knives when I moved into my first apartment. At that point in my life, I knew NOTHING about cooking, and could barely boil water. The knives sat in their box for several months before I finally got around to opening them. These knives, however, are absolutely amazing. The difference between my Wusthof knives and a "regular" knife is really impressive. I have been using them for over three years now on a daily basis, and have not yet needed to sharpen them. They easily cut through tough, sinewy cuts of meat, while still being sharp enough to tackle delicate fruits and vegetables without ripping at them. I have since, for the sake of experimentation, tried other "quality brand" knives including Henckel, but nothing has come close. I am now working on completeing my set of Wusthof.

I must tell you, I finally decided to pop for these knives as an indulgence; and then I had a bad case of buyer's remorse. You know, "How in hell could I justify paying 100 bucks for 2 lousy knives?". I like to cook, but I've been getting by with "decent", although relatively inexpensive knives. Anyway, that remorse lasted until I prepared my first meal. My God, what a difference. I can't justify popping for Wusthof for knives you don't use much, but for the ones you find yourself using every day, it's worth it.

If you're planning to cook, the cookware and knives will be your primary tools in the kitchen. For that reason, buy the best you can find it's an investment that should last 30 years and be used by your children, too. I looked at 10" chef knives at the store and they were cumbersome and too large. This 8" felt better, had a sturdy feel to it and you could sense the craftsmanship when holding them. These stay sharp, haven't shown any signs of wear or rust and are quality made and heavy. Great starter set, and will last you for years to come.

The board is attractive, the colors subtle, yet it is tough enough to stand lots of chopping. A good choice.

I needed something small for the counter to put wet silverware etc on. This looks good and does the trick.

Furi Cutlery FX 10-Inch Coppertail Cook's Knife

Furi Cutlery FX 10-Inch Coppertail Cook's KnifeI purchased this knife not from Amazon but directly from the company. It's sharp and it stays that way. I keep a honing steel handy but I seldom use it with this knife. The slightly narrower blade allows you work the knife easily into tight working areas allowing you to surgically dissect a chicken in almost no time. It is also very well balanced. I haven't had the need to file down the copper end yet but I believe that some people will find it quite useful. About my only con with this knife is that the copper is quite hard to keep shining brightly.

I got these for around $50 and I think it's a great deal, since most other cookware sets are around 100 dollars. They also came with some utensils and 4 glass bowls. I don't love the utensils because they're not in the best condition and it's too bendy for me.... I haven't used the glass bowls yet but they're not the fresh seal kind of lids so for now I'm sticking with Rubbermaid containers. But overall the pots and pans work wonderfully. Easy to use and easy to clean!

This was purchased as a present for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. Great item.

Appearance:

Items look exactly like you see in picture. Color does not fade or scratch easily.

Functionality:

These items are used every day 2-3 times. They are in perfect condition after a month of every day use and wash. No scratches, dents, or broken pieces. I absolutely love this set and I am happy it was so cheap. The utensils are not flimsy. Yes, they bend, but what doesn't if you provide enough force? They do not bend easily, but if you plan on using one as a javelin to fling yourself over a pole, it's probably going to break. But be real, what 100lb steak are you going to be cooking?

Overall:

BEST pots / pans / tools ever purchased from anywhere and I recommend them to anyone looking for a cheap but legitimate cooking set.

5/5

Want Basic Essentials 17 Piece Aluminum Cookware Sets Discount?

I bought this cookware set for my g/f, it is a basic cookware set with a few extras. The utensils are not going to last long as they are thin plastic. i have not used the glass bowls yet but they seem like they will do the job. The pots and pans are on the small size, so if you are regularly cooking for a family of 4 or more I would not recommend. Overall, good bang for the buck, but if you cook often and for more than 3 people I would get something else.

True Fabrications 4-Piece Cheese Tools Set

True Fabrications 4-Piece Cheese Tools SetThis set does everything I need. Four different tools to cover all of my cutting and serving needs. A handy set to have for a reasonable price!

The only reason I didn't give this set 5 stars, is that it doesn't include a cheese plane. For soft cheeses like Gouda, a cheese plane is the best tool.

These tools look nice and they can go in the dishwasher. I expect them to last a long time. There are no joints, just one solid piece and the handle is very comfortable and solid.

I'm going to look and try to find a matching plane.

The blade is perfectly straight and even has the slight concave on the back side.

Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs.

Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs.I purchased these recently, they ended up being 8 cents a piece (not super cheap, but not bad). They are very shallow. When placed in hot liquid they flatten out even more (to the point where it is impossible to differentiate either side of the "spoon"). It is still possible to eat food with them, so I will continue to use them until they are gone. The concept was great, but they should have used more wood to make a deeper spoon. They are made in China, if that raises any food safety concern for anyone... (the package says no glazes were used, but you never know what may be leached into your food...)

For cold food, they will work well. Wood is great, better than both petroleum and non-petrol based plastics in my opinion. I would not recommend this specific product, but I would highly recommend the idea.

Recyclable, compostable cutlery is a fantastic idea but these items change their shape and become more difficult to use after they get moist.

Buy Birchware Compostable Wooden Spoons 100/pcs. Now

The spoons are practically flat. When eating cereal or soup, you can barely get any liquid in the spoon. This may work as a coffee stirrer, but you can use much less wood for a coffee stirrer.

To add to the problem, they feel terrible against your mouth. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

These came wrapped in plastic, clearly labeled that they were made in China. The packaging did not give me a warm, fuzzy feeling of envrionmental friendliness. After receiving them, my overall feeling is one of suspicion.

18/10 Stainless Steel Cutlery - Filigree Silverware 25Pc. By Collections Etc

18/10 Stainless Steel Cutlery - Filigree Silverware 25Pc. By Collections EtcI had done some research on flatware. Looking for a very sturdy set to last me the rest of my life...already heading into 60...10% nickel (18/10) was the one big quality I was looking for...to avoid them bending, corroding, etc. The design is very nice and size is perfect.

I have multiple sets of 18/10 from various brands, but I wanted to fill a few holes for every use utensils and noticed this one. I was surprised to see this many pieces offered for such a low amount, but I said it's 18/10, this seems like a great deal.

They come in a basic cardboard box all wrapped in plastic wrap and rubber bands. The best part of this set is the amount of pieces you get when compared to the name brands with better quality. The polish is just "ok", the edges while not rough could have been rounded off better. If you compare this set side by side with a name brand you'll be able to tell instantly where they skimped in the manufacturing process, mainly in polish and corners. The one little design at the end of each utensil, while ok, shows lack of cohesion with the rest of the utensil. This set reminds me of an 18/10 set that was made 30 years ago, but is just being offered today. The size of the utensils are larger than normal, with spoons having a more flat look than a curved one. The picture of the set you see on this page looks better than the product you actually get, these are best for everyday use but I would not use them for show in a table setting. If not for the price/amount of pieces I would have rated these 2 stars instead of 3.

Pros:

Price, way lower in cost that name brand sets with fewer pieces

Amount of pieces in set, good for those on a tight budget with larger families

Cons:

Quality is about as low as you can get for 18/10

Pro/Con Depending on your preference, these are larger in size when compared to other utensils. Smaller hands may not like the size of this set.

I spent hours searching different knife dealers online looking for the best knife for my dollar. I had not heard of this brand before. So I was a little worried at first. After reading pages and pages of knife nerd forums, I made my choice. Trust me when I say that you will not find a 10.5 inch Japanese gyuto for a better price. And this is not a cheaply made knife. I use Wustoff knives and a variety of other Japanese style knives at work. And the quality of the Yoshihiro is superior.

I'm really happy with this purchase.

Unless you want to spend $350 or above on a Japanese knife, you should search no further.

And it's nice to know that I'm not giving my money to some "knife factory giant".

Picnic Time Wine Country Tote with Cheese Service and Corkscrew

Picnic Time Wine Country Tote with Cheese Service and CorkscrewI got this as a wedding gift. We use it all the time. It easily fits two bottles of wine, snacks and comes with a board and knife for cheeses. We use it more often for road trips to hold all of our snacks and a couple of bottles of wine to enjoy once we reach our destination. The only thing I would change about the bag is the long strap for carrying. It connects at both ends on the front of the bag. If you have two bottles of wine in the bag it evens out but if you don't it feels like you are going to dump your contents without an extra hand on the bag for stabilization. It's not a big deal but I would have liked it better if the strap was on each side of the bag not just the front side. Other then that the quality is great and we will continue to us it often.

Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, Medium

Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, MediumFirst of all, this is a big stone. It's 12 inches long and it weighs over 3 lbs. It is not a natural stone. I like to use oil on a stone, and this stone soaked up an enormous amount of oil. Don't use sharpening oil; use 2 cycle motor oil, the kind that is mixed with gasoline. I don't think water would work to keep this stone from clogging up. All that being said, it does what you would expect: it puts a pretty good edge on a large knife without too much work. It's a pretty soft stone so it's hard to say how long it will last before it losses its flat surface. Knives sharpened on this stone need a few strokes on a finer grit natural stone to finish the job. No instructions included.

***Knowing how to sharpen a knife is a skill that must be learned, I do not recommend purchasing this if you do not currently know how to use it OR do not intend to learn. You will only ruin your knives, or at best, require the assistance of a professional to repair them.***

This 12" non-natural stone is ideal for replacing an edge on your cutlery or sharpening tools such as axes or pruning sheers. It can be used with oil, if you use it, plan to use it, or even would ever consider using it on a piece of cutlery that MIGHT contact food, DO NOT USE INDUSTRIAL OILS! ONLY USE FOOD GRADE MINERAL OIL. It can also be used with water very well, adding a few drops of household dish detergent to the water will help it stay with the stone and reduce some friction as well as aid in keeping the stone clean/free of metal particles. Out of the box, the stone should be "dressed", this can be done with a dressing stone or with the blade of some old tool... ax, lawn mower blade, etc. before using it on an expensive knife.

This stone cuts quickly and is ideal for the ultra-wear-resistant German stainless steel used to produce some of the worlds most renowned cutlery, Wusthof, Henckel, etc and will allow you to repair and resharpen your knives quickly. I would avoid this stone for use with any knife of Japanese make, the steel such knives are made from is very susceptible to wear and should not be sharpened on *whet* stones any courser than 750 grit, the grit of this stone is improvidently 80/150grit.

Pros:

1) Large at 12" long

2) Hard, very slow to wear, with proper care, the average person will get a few lifetimes out of this stone.

3) Easy to clean and maintain.

4) Consistent, even texture through out the stone.

5) Heavy... it makes a great paperweight when dry and not in use...

Cons:

1) Does not fit in most stone holders.

Bottom line, I would recommend this stone to anyone who knows how to use a sharpening stone to sharpen knives/tools and the difference between sharpening German and Japanese knives, for your German knives and many of your tools, this will not disappoint you.

Buy Winco 12-Inch Fine/Grain Knife Sharpening Stone, Medium Now

I have several abused knives with terrible edges on them, and this stone is exactly what I needed. The stone I received is grey and black and marked Winco #83, not purple like the one pictured. The black side is very coarse for removing a lot of metal quickly. The grey side is medium, not what I would call fine.

After some practice with a couple junk knives, I was able to restore a proper bevel to the edge of my kitchen and pocket knives. Then all it took was a little finishing with my hard Arkansas stone to put a sharp edge on them.

I would not buy this as your only stone, as the "fine" side is not fine enough for finishing. However, the size made it easy for a novice sharpener like myself to get a good bevel. Buy this stone, and another fine one for finishing, and you will be set.

Final thought: This thing is a sponge, and will absorb a ton of water. I definitely would not use oil on it.

This sharpening stone is 2 sided, coarse and medium. This stone is great for yard tools and very beat up blades, but I found even the finer side to be to coarse to put fine cutting edge for my kitchen knives. It will quickly fix a damaged edge but after using this you need to use a finer stone or a good stop to get a really sharp edge.

This stone arrived well packaged and on time.

Messermeister Stainless Steel Fish Plier

Messermeister Stainless Steel Fish PlierThese were apparently designed by a person who will never use them then manufactured by and subsequently inspected by people who do not have a sense of smell. The plastic covering on the handles has a very strong and persistent odor that reeks of unpronounceable chemicals that I feel certain should never come in contact with food. I have had these fish pliers for 2 months and the odor is still present, strong as when I opened the package.

Furthermore, the plastic covers on the handles are not water-tight; they appear to have been molded then slipped onto the handles like loose gloves. After I washed the pliers to remove the protective(?) grease the manufacturer had applied, water oozed out from the plastic covers for a considerable time.

I put these near-worthless and expensive pliers in my tool box and I will go to Ace Hardware to buy a pair to use in the kitchen.

I wish people at Amazon.Com would inspect the merchandise they buy before offering it for sale to customers.

If you are like me, you have probably used a regular pair of needlenosed pliers to pull fish bones for most of your life. So, why bother with these?

Well, I finally learned that unlike those regular pliers, these fish pliers have a criss-cross pattern on the inside of the nose. Which means that instead of standard issue straight across grooves, you can get much more traction on the fish bone. I have witnessed this first hand.

(Which also means I can use that other pair for re-stringing my guitar... AFTER a run or two through the dish washer...EW! from here on out...)

Who knew? Now you do too. You won't regret it.
