Lenox Continental Dining Stainless-Steel 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

Lenox Continental Dining Stainless-Steel 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1DETAILS:

Being permanently disabled with arthritis & fibromyalgia, and having been displeased as a very avid home chef, with about two dozen various brands & makes of flatware at all prices over the years, I decided I would look high and low for the best flatware set made today at any cost. I did not look online, by pictures, or by catalogs to compare, but rather I spent a lot of hands on time searching for just the right set over the course of several years in person through many, many hundred of designs from dozens of stores and brands. Having searched quite vigorously and purposely, I have found what I believe to be the BEST SET OF FLATWARE MADE PERIOD.

While at first glance the design seems simple and undecorated, but I feel this set is the best from a practical and useful standpoint, and even more so from a quality standpoint. Generally there are three issues that I have had with flatware. The first is the long time issue of the neck of the utensil, where you will find lesser grade flatware having been made of either a separate handle & action portion (eg. the actual blade, bowl or fork tines), and then fitted together but eventually loosening over time and use. Or, being made of one piece of metal, but almost always a stamped out piece of thin sheet metal and easily bendable in the neck portion like you see in all the poor grade flatware you find in restaurants today. Anything having such a design was immediately rejected.

Second is the problem of overall design. I honestly and openly admit that plain patterns are just that, plain! I really do! But I also feel that some patterns of silverware can clash with the plates, settings, and even the décor of the dining environment. I myself would much rather prefer to host a party with a set of plain pattern flatware and elegant dinnerware, food, embroidered napkins, flowers, etc., versus clashing patterns any day as with this set I don't have to buy several silverware patterns or risk having a set of silverware clashing with the food and other dinnerware. For example, a set of Victorian era styled silverware does not in anyway, no matter what Martha Stewart and others may say, go with a contemporary plate setting with modern/new age/fusion style food, no matter what anyone says! It's always good to have one set of silverware, or your one and only set, that can go with anything, especially if you don't want, don't have space for, or can't afford to have multiple sets of flatware.

Third and last is the quality, reputation and pattern longevity, and all are intermingled. Some brands and styles come and go, and usually for the better, but others have been here longer than most people would guess. The Lenox brand, while not the most nor the least expensive, is a great brand and the pattern of these flatware are timeless. Something to consider if you plan on adding to your set down the road. And no, like all my reviews, I'm not affiliated with or compensated in any way by the company or seller of any product I do a review on I'm just well pleased with my purchase.

IN SHORT:

The handle size and ergonomics are outstanding, and the flatware are very tough and well made. These are solid, not hollow, not stamped, but forged high grade 18/10 high carbon stainless steel, just like the cladding layers of the renowned All-Clad cookware of great fame and esteem. This is a set that will last for many generations, if not forever, and it's quality can never be shown to it's fullest without actually seeing it in person. While not a glamorous design some would say, philosophers would agree with me in that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the simplicity, quality and function of these flatware are second to none. I guarantee that you will be pleased once you try them and your guests will comment highly about them. They have grace, quality and value. Three things that are getting to be almost impossible to find now-days.

NOTES: Made in South Korea of solid 18/10 Stainless Steel. Laser etched on backside with name, origin and material.

I have tired spoons that break at the neck and bent flatware. After looking for something that was affordable, with simple classic lines, I decided on this patttern. I love love love this flatware. The design is clean, simple, and dresses up or down. The weight of this set is substantial. The length each piece is a little longer, thus the "Continental" designation. The pieces feel good in the hand, and seem to make eating food a more intentional activity. No troubles in the dishwasher either. They come out fine, with the occasional water spot for which I do not blame the flatware. I love the way they look on the table.

I would highly recommend this particular dining set.

We registered for these for our wedding. I saw them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I have this thing about making sure the forks are really pointy. These really were. The ones we got are too! I love this abut them. They are really pretty out of the box and have a very simple style. When opening them I noticed that they were made in Vietnam (in case this is an issue for anyone). It has been about two months since we started using these. The one thing I don't like is that the knives are starting to loose their finish. I was expecting better quality given how much these cost. However that was not meant to be I guess. The rest of the silverware is doing just fine, but I don't know why the knives are this way. Hope this helps!

Panasonic MK-G20NR-W Heavy Duty Meat Grinder

Panasonic MK-G20NR-W Heavy Duty Meat GrinderMy wife and I have purchased electronic Panasonic products with satisfaction for more than 30 years, so we decided to give this meat grinder a try. Extremely satisfied, with first use to make ham salad (something not available commercially here, alas, any more, after the demise of Honey B on Texas Ave a couple of years ago). (Anyone reading this remenber the ham salad sandwiches at Reeves on F, then G, street in DC? Well I do, and have tried to duplicate them with this machine.) My! In any event, this is a solid, well-built, quiet (like a blender or food-processor) machine, that, properly assembled (cutter blade toward front, not back!!), will produce a great grind. For our ham salad we used the medium cutter disk, though if you want a coaser grind you can use the coarse disk. Perfection. Does not grind onions well (mush), however. Carbon steel parts (blade, disks, parts of the impeller)are NOT stainless and will require proper storage (use food-grade mineral oil available at your local pharmacy or cooking oil -olive, peanut, etc. to coat, then store). In this age of crappy products, this one is an exception. Highly recommend! Meatballs next ...

The item works well. It's too small for larger volumes of material such as 20# as fatigue sets in on the operator. Excellent for making 10 to 15 lb. batches of sausage.

Buy Panasonic MK-G20NR-W Heavy Duty Meat Grinder Now

I read many reviews on grinders prior to purchasing this one. The cost of paying for processing a deer is getting exspensive. For summer sausage alone I paid over $80.00 this grinder worked well and was quiet. It was easy to operate and easy to clean. The sausage stuffer attachment works well. It is made in Japan, the quality is better than other choices. I am sure that the more exspensive commercial grinders do a better job. For me who using it for a few deer a year and maybe making my own ground sirloin it is great.

So far it does a great job in my kitchen. Strongly recommended over any other similar products you may find elsewhere.

J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 8-Inch Chef

J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 8-Inch ChefI bought this knife to replace it's relative, one that was just in the price range below this one. The difference is obvious in the heft and balance. A good weight for some serious chopping time without wearing out your arm. Durable blade, has survived the dishwasher, cutting through smallish bones (chicken, rabbit) and it still sharp as ever.

Excellent knives with a reasonable price. I bought five of the same type (Forged Premio) bread, 8-inch chef, 6-inch utility, 3-inch, and 5-inch santoku. Every one of them is amazing, very sharp, a pleasure to work with. A 3-inch may be a little heavy to do a lot of peeling.

Evercut Multipurpose Knife 8-inch / 20 cm Blade with Case

Evercut Multipurpose Knife 8-inch / 20 cm Blade with CaseWhen I got this knife, the first thing that I thought was "Why is this thing so small"? Indeed, it is really small for a chef's knife but nevertheless it is pretty dang sharp. I have only used it a few times, but It seems pretty sharp. The one star off I deducted was because this knife chips too easily!! The second day that I used it, my little bro dropped it to the ground and a chunk of the tip chipped off!! (kind of exaggerating but its kind of a big deal) Also, you cant hone it at all or sharpen it unless you live in France ( i don't) so that's a bummer. It wasnt completely disappointing though.

John Boos 20-by-15-Inch Reversible Maple Cutting Board

John Boos 20-by-15-Inch Reversible Maple Cutting BoardYou will be TOTALLY pleased with this Boos 20 x 15 cutting board. There is a reason why Boos is the leader in cutting boards. I researched them all. This product is exceptional and will last forever.

I bought this cutting board for my husband. Our old board that was four years old was looking a little worse for the wear, so I thought we would upgrade. Was I mistaken. The board looked okay when it arrived although there were a couple of rough edges. But my husband loved it and he oiled it and treated it as instructions recommended. After just four months, the board is warped and splitting in two spots. I don't want to say Boos boards are junk, but this one certainly falls below their purported standards.

I contacted ABestKitchen through their site and have received no response. The Boos company site suggests contacting them if one of their authorized distributors doesn't respond. I guess that is the next step.

Mac Knife Chef Series Hollow Edge Chef's Knife, 8-Inch

Mac Knife Chef Series Hollow Edge Chef's Knife, 8-InchI have this knife and Shun 10". I prefer the MAC for everyday tasks. It the perfect size and balance. This model is a bit more durable than the MAC mth-80 model. Remember, there is always a tradeoff between sharpness and durability. If you want the sharpest knife, go with the mth-80, but don't cry when you chip the blade. The sharper the knife, usually the harder the metal, hence it is more brittle, but will retain an edge longer.

Of course, you can avoid chips by using the correct tool for the right job, but most people only learn this after they have chipped a couple nice knives. My Shun is definitely a harder and sharper material than my Mac, but it also has a couple large chips from friends.

If I could only take one tool from my kitchen on a desert island, it would be this knife!

My mom has had her MAC knife for over 25 years, it is beat, but still her favorite knife.

THE best knife! Use it for just about everything, except boning. Wound up buying another MAC knife for paring, and will purchase one for cutting chicken, etc., because I love THIS knife SO much!! Stays sharp for what seems like FOREVER and cuts like butter. Absolutely worth every penny. Just remember to wash immediately after using and never, EVER put it in the dishwasher. You'll definitely be pleased you bought it!!

I have been cooking most of my life. I have purchased numerous quality knives at various prices. All the gimmicks, all the "best", all the Top Chef recommended. $600 plus for one. And what knife has lasted and been used over and over with minimum care and attention? This one. A quick honing before and after each use, and I can run down a rack of ribs, slice a tomato, chop and onion, carrot celery and herbs, and turn a pork tenderloin into medallions without ever changing the knife while prepping. While serving I can use it just as easily to carve a bird or roast beef or pork.

When I guest cook or cater this is one of three knives I never forget. The other two are just about any bread knife or paring knife.

Buy it, take care f it, and it will take care of your kitchen needs.

I bought this knife as well as the santoku knife a year ago. They are wonderful to use and I would recommend them to anyone who spends enjoys cooking. My wife thought I was being extravagant when I got them, but she has now made the santoku "her knife" and left me with the cooks. They are both wonderful to work with. We do a lot of chopping. We have a large organic garden and I also like to stir fry. One of our favorite salads is finely chopped lettuce, red sweet pepper, apple, carrot, cucumber and feta cheese. With these knives it's a joy. Do yourself a favor and get at least one MAC knife. In order to keep them at peak sharpness I recommend the porcelain sharpener as well. Remember to clean the sharpener or it stops working.

I decided to spend big bucks and buy one knife to improve my cooking (and make it less of a chore). This knife does the job. Excellent quality, not too heavy or too light. I'm able to chop any vegetables as finely as I want to. It is very sharp right now, but I plan to regularly take it to a professional knife sharpener in the future to keep it well-maintained.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 7-Piece Block Set

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 7-Piece Block SetThis set was actually better than I expected. It actually includes the santoku though it was not clearly listed in the description. The only downside would be the handles. While they are very elegant, they are made of a softer, rubber like material. While this makes them comfortable, they don't have a consistent tone and have a whitish color shift on some portions. It doesn't bother me, but if aesthetics are important, other lines may be better.

Farberware 12-Inch by 18-Inch Nonslip Board, Red

Farberware 12-Inch by 18-Inch Nonslip Board, RedI have a smaller version of this same cutting board but find it doesn't give me enough surface area for large chopping jobs. The size of this particular cutting board is perfect. The material its made of is durable, doesn't stain easily, resists scratches, and doesn't dull my knives. The only negative comment is that it arrived slightly bowed; so, it didn't sit flat on my counter. I manipulated it to make it flatter rather than return it. However, I do recommend the manufacturer rethink the packaging and give it a stiff cardboard or other container type that will keep the cutting board surface flat vs the clear wrap only packaging it currently is using.

J.A. Henckels 17-1/2-Inch Magna Bar, Black

J.A. Henckels 17-1/2-Inch Magna Bar, BlackThis product was a major disappointment. The magnetic strip itself is excellent, but it's built around a very flimsy plastic framework with plastic ends that mount on the wall.

The problem is that the plastic frame very quickly warps with the force required to remove the knives from the strong magnets, creating a rocking motion that helps work the hardware out of the wall.

Now I have a couple of big holes in my wall, and I need to replace this product before it falls apart. I'm very disappointed.

.to wish you had a better way of keeping your kitchen scalpels organized.

Seriously, I thought this bar would be just the thing to help me organize my too-small kitchen which is always strewn with knives, bottle openers, spatulae, whisks, and other kitchen implements. I also wanted something to keep my sharp knives away from my hands so that I could reach for things on the counter without worrying about stabbing myself.

This magnetic strip fits the bill perfectly. I was worried at first that it wouldn't be a strong enough magnet to hold my chef's knife, but it is. The knife is held very securely and forms a tight magnetic "seal" that breaks when you twist the knife away from it. If you bump the knife, it just rotates on the magnet you'd have to be a real klutz to whack it hard enough to knock it off by accident. ...

I was also worried that the metal magnet would nick my knife edges. That's not a problem as long as you're careful how you put the knife on (back edge first).

I recommend this product without any reservations!

I live in an apartment with a tiny, galley-style kitchen. I have next to NO counter space. I was fed up with having the small piece of counter next to my stove filled up with a spice rack AND a knife rack AND a utensils jar.

I found the Henckel's magnabar here on amazon and gave it a try. Now I am not your Miss Fix-It type so maybe others would not have this problem, but I found it awkward to mount this thing on the wall next to my stove. The end caps of the bar, which you use to set the screws in, and the top and bottom edging of the bar are plastic and rather flimsy. By the time I got the bar up and stable, one edge of the magnabar had bent/come loose. After sinking the screws into my wall, I didn't want to stop and return it, so I just put the "bad side" back toward the corner where it won't be as noticeable.

I do really enjoy having more counter space and all the knives lined up on the bar looks great, but I have to admit I expected a higher quality product from Henckels.

I used this magnet for 7 years and found it to be an excellent home for my quality knives. Take note--it is a *strong* magnet with a powerful grip, and this is a double-edged knife (pardon the pun). On the one hand, blades are held firmly in place no matter their weight, and I never had issues with knives being accidentally knocked off the wall. As my magnet was mounted next to my refrigerator, this was important, and the magnet performed like a champ. On the other hand, it does require you to learn a technique to remove knives easily without marring the blades or pulling out the mounting hardware. As other reviewers have noted, the magnet mounts by placing two screws in drywall anchors in your wall, and the plastic end-caps then slide over the screws. Put in one screw, mount the cap, slide the magnet onto the cap, then slide the other cap on and you're done. However, the smaller, cheaper drywall anchors included with this magnet are not that tough, and don't handle routine pulling well. I lived in a house with cheap drywall and in seven years never had any problems with pulling out mounting hardware--the trick is learning the correct technique for detaching the knives. Instead of wrenching them from the magnet (which I agree, takes considerable force, especially with my chef's knife and santoku), I would twist the edge away from the magnet while leaving the blade spine against the magnet. This creates rotational force directly against the magnet/wall without stressing the mounting hardware one bit, and once the magnet has less surface area to hang onto, it takes very little force to remove the spine from the magnet. I just bought another kitchen magnet (we moved cities, and I couldn't find the Henckel at my local store) and while the magnet takes less force to remove knives from, my heavier blades tend to slide down the magnet to rest on the counter, which I don't like. Additionally, I am concerned that my heavier blades could be accidentally knocked off, especially with handles resting on the counter--hit them with a cookie sheet or skillet and *bam*, they drop right off the magnet. Dangerous. I'm going back to Henckel for it's stronger grip. Note that I am deducting a star for the mounting hardware--it is entirely possible to include drywall anchors that hold very well, even when being pushed/pulled repeatedly. There was no need for Henckel to cheap out. Include a better anchor and you'd get 5 stars from everyone here.

Bought this for my dad for christmas and installed it in about 2 minutes. He has a tile backsplash that I didn't want to drill into if I could help it, so I used 2 layers of some good double stick tape and it worked great. I thought the weight of the knives might pull it off, but going on a month with no problems. The magnet works great and has a "professional look" that one would expect from Henckel.

Jean Dubost Laguiole Luxury 5-Piece Flatware SetÊ

Jean Dubost Laguiole Luxury 5-Piece Flatware Set (Black)We ordered 12 place settings of black flatware based on previous laguiole buys and their reputation. We were very disappointed. The teaspoon is child size as though it had been pulled from a child set and substituted in. It is literally non functional. With the exception of the knife which was lovely weight and design, the rest of the set was light weight and very cheap feeling and looking. I have bought many things on line and this is the first time I am sending an item back. Would not recommend to anyone.

My experience with a set of Laguiole flatware is the same as the other two reviewers. The rivets are poorly made and, consequently, the pieces used most frequently [teaspoons] "boing!" apart. I had gotten this set [yellow with a design of olives/leaves] as I liked the idea of having something from France be part of my day [unabashed Francophile here]. So disappointing. And, yes, the teaspoons are quite small almost demitasse size. Great for cutting down on super rich icecreams.

I have owned a set of these for 8 years. Over that time several have fallen apart while others have stayed together. The first

part that breaks is the small silver cap. The rivets are poorly secured and they just fall apart. Others, the black plastic

has broken from flexing or the dishwasher. All of the knives have stayed intact. The large spoons and forks suffer the largest

failures. Theses are expensive items. If you are buying them with the notion that Price gets you Quality-look eleswhere.

Lunch on the Go 1 Kit

Lunch on the Go 1 KitI have almost all of the fit and fresh lunch to go containers and they really make taking food to go a lot easier.

I handwash everything and do not have problems getting my containers to stack or close like another reviewer said. The two small containers only fit on top of the icepack. When I made a big salad in the bottom, I just put the icepack on top, then my two filled small containers and the outside lid. Easy.

I bought the first one a couple weeks ago at a brick & morter store and then bought two more this weekend so I can pack one for my husband too. Hopefully he won't mind the purple lid.

I have replaced a few pieces over the years, as pieces were lost and they matched perfectly. I just received 4 place settings and while they are similar they are slightly different. The metal is slightly lighter in weight and the shape of pieces slightly different. Also the metal finish is matte and was not like that in the original...Some of mine was made in Korea and this latest batch was made in Vietnam, not sure if that is the reason why.

These are a pleasure to use, beautiful to look at, and easy to clean. The only warning is that the knives might not be great for "tougher" meats, but work very well for everyday use.

Shun DMS200 Classic 2-Piece Boxed Carving Set

Shun DMS200 Classic 2-Piece Boxed Carving SetShun makes the best kitchen knives I have ever owned, bar none. They all come with a razor sharp edge right out of the box and are easy to re-hone with just a few strokes on a steel (well worth purchasing to accompany this knife). The damascus pattern is gorgeous and the perfectly crafted profile slices through darn near anything (food-like anyway) with ease. The weight and balance of this carving knife are perfect and the complementing fork is one of the best I've seen from any brand. the set is designed for right-handed chefs with an ergonomic d-shaped handle that won't twist or slip in your hand. The storage box is classy too. I've had mine for a couple years and have also given three sets as gifts. It's a great product!

We took it out for the first time yesterday to carve the roast beef. It cut perfectly as one would have expected on a 5 star product. The set comes in a wooden box, great storage since we don't use it very often.

I received the item promptly. AMAZON shipping dept A+. When you open the box there is a wow factor. knife and fork perfectly sitting in the foam setting. Wooden handle with beautiful forged steel blade. Originally made in Japan.

I had a chance to use the set few days after purchase at Christmas dinner and it was amazing. So super sharp I didnt have to use any force. It just went through the meat like it was butter. One tip: be careful it is really really sharp. I just accidentally slightly touched my hand with the blade and it was cut.

Packaging could be more sophisticated for the price. Like wooden box etc.

Cold Steel Boning Knife Kraton Handle with 6.00-Inch Blade

Cold Steel Boning Knife Kraton Handle with 6.00-Inch Bladegreat grip, good balance but edge doesn't stay sharp at all so it already finding its way to the back of the drawer with the other knives.I even sharpen it with a ceramic rod but really do i have to do this constantly when i'm cutting vegetables.i'm disappointed after all the video hype good if i want to stab my fruit.

I bought two of these so the wife and I could process our venison faster.

They are very sharp and the grips are outstanding. The edge stays sharp through several hours of cutting and trimming.

I loaned one to a neighbor to fillet some Largemouth Bass and it worked good for him too.
