Lansky Sharpeners Honing Oil, 1 oz. Replacement Bottle

Lansky Sharpeners Honing Oil, 1 oz. Replacement BottleI have used this product for twenty years. It is as good an oil as a person can buy. The oil doesn't run off the stone. It is also good for cleaning the grit from your sharpening stone(s).I would recommend it to anyone.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star Peeling Knife 2.75-in.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star Peeling Knife 2.75-in.This knife is my very favorite. Intended to be a peeling knife, I use it for so much more. I use it as you would use a paring knife. It is very versitle.

I bought this knife as an addition to sets of Henckels I purchased for my married kids. They were a bit intimidated by it's shape at first but quickly came to appreciate it as I do.

OXO Good Grips Professional 8-Inch Chef Knife

OXO Good Grips Professional 8-Inch Chef KnifeThis is an unpretentious, capable tool that is likely to get lost between $5 ginsus and $240 Shuns. It is comfortable to use, has reasonably good steel, and is balanced well. It is a good using knife and the attractive price just sweetens the deal. Do the math--a solid tool for $20 something, or a bit more weight and marketing for $120 to $240.

I am a bit of a tool nut, and I own German Wusthoff, French Sabatier and Calphalon knives made with German steel. They are fine knives, but let's face it, they can't do anything the good grips knife can't. Yes, a bit more weight comes in handy when you're doing serious chopping for hours on end, but I try to avoid that. I also favor a 10" cooks knife, but most opt for the 8" model. This is an ideal primary knife for a new cook who is ready to go, but too smart to drop a bundle on a brand name.

Rust has not been a concern, but I keep my blades clean. I don't throw them in the dishwasher and I steel them often.

I am a Chef Instructor at a training facility. I use these knives as a graduation present for my students. They have a good weight, shape and an ergonomic handle. OXO is a fantastic company. I SWEAR by their tongs! They rock. I have never been dissapointed by this line for the value and price. If you want to keep your knives sharp, NEVER put them in the dishwasher. Hand wash only!

I LOVE THIS KNIFE!!!! Actually I have at lease six of the OXO knives and I love them all. They are lightweight and sharp which makes them a breeze to use. The no-slip grip is amazing even when your hand is covered with butter. It doesn't slip. In addition OXO offers 100% satisfaction guarantee. I had one break away from the handle and they replaced it FREE OF CHARGE even after I told them the knife was 8 years old. This is a can't miss product from a can't miss company. I highly recommend these knives.

This is a great knife good balance, good feel in the hand (the grip is excellent). It is an outstanding value for the price.

But, like all good knives, you MUST take care of it to maintain sharpness. Clean and dry it (by hand) immediately after each use. Don't even THINK about putting it in the dishwasher. It is preferable to use it on a softer cutting surface (like wood).

Take care of this knife and it will take care of you. It will hold a sharp edge without frequent sharpening.

I bought the "block set", but I use this knife way more than any of the others. I has great balance, stays sharp, and feels great in my hand. I Never put it in the dishwasher (no quality knife should ever go in the dishwaher). I frequently put a few strokes on the round steel that came with the block, and it's back to razor sharp.

After 2 years of use, I can't see any reason to spend more on a more expensive brand, which is why I'm buying another one for my mother-in-law.

The Ultimate Model 2001-MC10 Garnishing Case in Durahyde

The Ultimate Model 2001-MC10 Garnishing Case in DurahydeI ordered this bag for someone at his request. It looks quite big in the picture but in fact its actually a small bag for garnishing tools eg... small knives etc. Although it does say so in the title, beware... it cannot be adapted to fit regular size kitchen knives. It is what it says.. for garnishing tools, so check the dimensions before ordering to be sure.

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Carving Knife

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Carving KnifeVery sharp blade and comfortable handle. Excellent quality for the money. Only possible drawback is the box indicates it is not recommended for lefties. My wife, a lefty, says she has no problem slicing but has cut her fingers several times while chopping. I, a righty, have no such problems. Well worth the purchase price but be aware if you are, or you're buying the knife for, a lefty.

Wow, it is sharp! Wish it had come with a sheath by which to store it. Be careful when you are washing it! LM

I purchased this knife to round out a set I'd bought but am not that pleased with this knife. It has small serrated edges that shred meat rather than carve it. I have put it away and don't use it, bought another one instead. Like the J.A.Henckels brand but not the Eversharp. Because is J.A.Henckels this model is good as a cheaper option but if you have the money go with the more expensive line.

The price was right, but I didn't realize it had a serrated edge (eversharp). Still, it works good slicing vegetables like tomatoes.

Basic Essentials 17 Piece Aluminum Cookware Sets

Basic Essentials 17 Piece Aluminum Cookware Set, RedWe bought this set for our college student daughter and it has been wonderful for her. It's everything she needs for her first apartment and so far so good. Nothing has been sticking to the pan, easy to clean, and associated storage bowls have been a bonus.

I got these for around $50 and I think it's a great deal, since most other cookware sets are around 100 dollars. They also came with some utensils and 4 glass bowls. I don't love the utensils because they're not in the best condition and it's too bendy for me.... I haven't used the glass bowls yet but they're not the fresh seal kind of lids so for now I'm sticking with Rubbermaid containers. But overall the pots and pans work wonderfully. Easy to use and easy to clean!

This was purchased as a present for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. Great item.

Appearance:

Items look exactly like you see in picture. Color does not fade or scratch easily.

Functionality:

These items are used every day 2-3 times. They are in perfect condition after a month of every day use and wash. No scratches, dents, or broken pieces. I absolutely love this set and I am happy it was so cheap. The utensils are not flimsy. Yes, they bend, but what doesn't if you provide enough force? They do not bend easily, but if you plan on using one as a javelin to fling yourself over a pole, it's probably going to break. But be real, what 100lb steak are you going to be cooking?

Overall:

BEST pots / pans / tools ever purchased from anywhere and I recommend them to anyone looking for a cheap but legitimate cooking set.

5/5

I bought this cookware set for my g/f, it is a basic cookware set with a few extras. The utensils are not going to last long as they are thin plastic. i have not used the glass bowls yet but they seem like they will do the job. The pots and pans are on the small size, so if you are regularly cooking for a family of 4 or more I would not recommend. Overall, good bang for the buck, but if you cook often and for more than 3 people I would get something else.

J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 3-Inch Stainless Steel Paring Knife

J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Pro 3-Inch Stainless Steel Paring KnifeI have had a J.A. Henckels 3" Fine Edge paring knife for 6 months. It was a great knife until a family member decided to stick it in a meat grinder last night. But we won't hold that against the knife.

The handle is comfortable and easy to grip. With 3 through-rivets it is securely attached. The handle includes a very good front quillon to keep fingers from sliding onto the blade. The full length tang aligns perfectly with the handle reflecting quality workmanship even though the knife was made in China.

The knife was super sharp when first bought, more like a razor blade than a knife blade. Even though the blade is stainless steel, it kept the fine edge and never needing to be sharpened nor honed. To help keep it sharp I never put it in the dishwasher to avoid exposure to the harsh detergent.

For many purposes the 3" length will be perfect. I think that I prefer a slightly longer blade. There were many times while slicing vegetables that I cut a thin layer of skin off the tip of a finger holding the item being sliced--not enough to draw blood, but always surprising. This has never happened to me with any other knife and I attribute these little mishaps to the blade being so short that I did not have as good a visual line on the blade as with a longer blade, and because it is so sharp.

Henckels makes many fine knives. The Fine Edge line of knives is a discount line, and prices are quite modest. I bought an 8" Fine Edge chef's knife at the same time and have been very happy with it also. The main difference between these discounted Fine Edge knives and some of the more expensive Henckels lines, other than price, seems to be cosmetic. Thanks to the encounter with the meat grinder I now am shopping for a new paring knife. I would have bought another one of these except it is not available with free super saver shipping, and the total cost with shipping seems a bit high. I think I will buy a 4" paring knife in stead, but if you are looking for a 3" knife and like the price, I think you will like this knife.

I had a complete set of Henckels that included this knife. A couple visiting my home let their kids take it out and dig in the dirt with this one. I ordered it to replace the one that then had a broken tip. This size knife works well for small jobs like paring apples or pears, taking the eyes out of potatoes that the peeler misses, etc. Henckels makes a good quality knife and this is a usable size. The handle fits well in your palm, also.

My wife and I purchased a complete J.A. Henckels knife set many years ago. I hadn't seen the paring knife in the block for a while and asked my wife about it. She said, "I may have accidentally thrown it in the garbage". We searched the house and couldn't find it, so I searched Amazon and found a replacement. Shortly after it arrived, we found the original (in an Entemmen's cake box!). Now we have 2. :-)

It was nice to be able to purchase a replacement paring knife for a knife-set that was purchased over 10 years ago.

Chef's Choice 310 Compact Diamond Hone Sharpener

Chef's Choice 310 Compact Diamond Hone SharpenerIf you're anything like us, you probably spent a lot of money on your knives a while back but secretly ask yourself "why did I bother?" because they just don't special anymore. That's because they've never been as sharp as when you bought them something this gizmo can DEFINITELY change.

This is a superb knife sharpener Cooks Magazine rated the Chefs Choice absolutely the best electric model. It puts the kind of edge on your old knives that makes you realize you'd forgotten the true meaning of "sharp".

There's only one flaw in their basic model, though. If your knives have gotten very dull, or you want to be a hero once in a while and put a better-than-new edge on a friend's knives, buy the model 110 instead. That model adds a heavier "grinder" blade (seen on the far left of sharpener in the picture) that can take off more metal quicly while creating the basic, third bevel on their "trizor" edge. Once you have that 3-beveled edge, touch-ups with the lighter grinding wheels seem to keep the knife sharp indefinitely.

You never need this more than once for all but the most neglected knife, but when you do it's nice to have. I've used it to sharpen a cheap fish fileting knife we bought while camping that turned out to be so thick and dull you could barely cut cheese. Now you could shave with it...

Even though I normally use a diamond sharpening block and know how to check the angles of the bevel, I have to admit, this device is quick and easy.

It gives an acceptable edge as long as you use it according to directions. It is convenient, as it can sit on your counter or be pulled out of the cupboard in a jiffy. So you tend to keep your knives sharp. The problem with hand sharpening is that it is finicky work that takes time. This is faster and easier, so you tend to do it oftener.

A sharp knife is actually a safer knife as it cuts easily. If you force a dull knife, it can slip and make a nasty cut. (The worst cut I ever saw was with a knife too dull to cut wax. It had no edge, but made a nasty, torn gash. The user was forcing the dull edge through wax and got injured.) So keep your knives sharp and in a block and use them with respect. This sharpener will certainly help you do that.

Buy Chef's Choice 310 Compact Diamond Hone Sharpener Now

I have been sharpening knives for over 45 years and this is the fastest, easiest way to get an excellent multi-angle edge on ALL of your knives. I orginally purchased a Model 300 about 12 years ago. The 310 is much better because it sharpens all of the way to the handle, a big issue with small blade pocket knives.

If you like sharp knives and either do not have the skill or the time to do it by hand get yourself one of these.

I have had this sharpener for several years and am quite satisfied with it. When you sharpen your knives for the first time, it takes many repetitions with both wheels, but you get a very sharp edge. After "setting up" your knives with the first sharpening, you'll find it fairly easy and quick to resharpen every few months. I'd recommend it if you want to get good sharp edges but don't want to spend the extra $ for the top of the line sharpeners.

I think this knife cost me around $20.00 and it out performs my knives that are four times the price. I keep thinking one of these knives are going to be shoddy. But I keep getting surprised everytime. Shouldn't be a surprise anymore huh?

Quite probably the best knife I have ever used. Perfect fit for my small hands. And sharp!! Requires very little effort to cut through anything. Meat or veggie products no problem. I even craved a BBQ chicken without issue. Removing those aggravating legs and wings was a snap. I first used this knife in a vacation house of all places and thought "Wow, I have to have this." I found and purchased the product through Amazon of course. My go to place when I'm looking for something special. I then ordered and sent the same knife to my son-in-law who fell in love with it too. It arrived earlier than promised, packaged perfectly to protect the blade. A win, win, win in my opinion. Since I was familiar with the product there were no surprises just appreciation of the knife. I highly recommend this product.

These are not as expensive as Shun or Global knives, and their basic aesthetic reflects that fact. However, they still look smart and functionally are as good as any more expensive set. These were stamped in Thailand (not forged in Japan or Germany), and that does not affect their function. These are steak knives they're utensils, not tools. When it comes to a chef's knife, the prudent thing to do is often to spend a good chunk of change (though Victorinox's $35 knives give more expensive Wusthof and Shuns a run for their money). Steak knives, however, are a different beast: they're used for meals, not mincing, dinner not dicing, chops not chopping. There's no benefit to having super-expensive German-forged steel in your steak knives, because the way that they are used would not see any benefit from their being manufactured as such (plus, stamping technique has gotten much better in the past several yearsa stamped knife from 2011 is much better than one from 1995).

These knives are very sharp, look good, and after about three months of near-daily use have shown no signs of dulling or other wear. Serrations are present on both sides of the blade and the knives are full-tang. At $20 for a set of four, these are a great value.

Trizor Professional 3 Piece Everyday Knife Set

Trizor Professional 3 Piece Everyday Knife SetI am not a professional chef and have not owned a large variety of "good" knives in my lifetime. I am also on a limited budget and for the life of me, I can't imagine what I was thinking in paying this much for such a limited set of knives. I have, though, worked in a number of restaurants and learned the benefits of sharp knives. Also, I love to cook.

I have owned this set of knives for about 10 years now, and have used them almost exclusively during that time. In fact, I do pretty much everything with just the chef's and utility knives. (Someone -my son, my mom -broke the tip off of the paring knife a few years back, though I don't know who or how, as neither had come forward to take responsibility, lol).

I absolutely LOVE these knives. The weight, balance, and material of these knives are as good as it gets -both functionally and in comfort-in-use. Definitely the best knives I have ever had in my hands. In 10 years, they have only begun to noticeably lose their edge over the last couple years. I do really need to invest in the Trizor sharpener so as not to lose the "patented" Trizor edge.

Even on a limited budget -certainly because I enjoy cooking so much -I have never regretted this purchase. They have my highest recommendation.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 8-Inch Carving Knife

Wusthof Grand Prix II 8-Inch Carving KnifeWe have owned the older Grand Prix knives for years, but recently dropped the 8 inch carving on the granite and broke the tip. This Grand Prix II seems like the same high quality, but even sharper and has kept its edge longer without sharpening. We find ourselves using it for everything instead of just carving.

I want to start this review with saying that if you haven't ever experienced the difference between a truly high quality knife and a standard kitchen knife, I realize that spending the money on them can seem frivolous; but if you do a lot of cooking, they are worth every cent you would pay for them.

I own quite a few of the Grand Prix II knives; I personally prefer this series to the other Wusthof series of knives, but choosing a knife is all about how it feels to you. I find that, for me, the Grand Prix II series fits my hands more fluidly than the other series do. And this knife in particular is one of my favorites. It is so much more than a carving knife, it can be used for just about anything. It's versatile and sturdy, but a little lighter in weight than the 8" chefs knife. The knife is extremely sharp, well balanced and slices with very little downward force needed; plus it stays sharp and needs infrequent sharpening (When you do sharpen, I suggest getting the Wusthof Ikon Knife and Scissor Sharpener or another Wusthof brand sharpener).
