72 PC GOLD TRIM FLATWARE SET

72 PC GOLD TRIM FLATWARE SETI have been looking everywhere for a gold trimmed silverware set to go with my formal dining set. I didn't want to spend too much because I only plan to use this set for special occasions. When they arrived (very quickly) I was impressed with both the quality and the size of the set. The serving set is huge! I can't imagine how much I would have spent if I had bought these pieces seperately. The pieces are heavier and sturdier than I expected. I also liked that the gold plating is subtle and not too brassy. I hope that it holds up well with washing.

As another reviewer may have mentioned, some people might have a problem with the size of the salad forks-they look like children's utensils. The forks don't really bother me and I think they would be great for appetizers.

Overall I think that this is a great set for the price.

I was very disappointed in the size disparity of the utensils. The salad forks and teaspoons are very small. There is one "sugar spoon" that is the size of an actual teaspoon. The tablespoons are too large for eating they are more like serving spoons. Also the gold is barely recognizable. The weight is light, but for the price is passable. Since this set is mass produced in China, its okay, but you get what you pay for.

This huge set is definitely a value for the money, and is somewhat heavier than I expected, that's a good thing! The salad forks are actually too small to use for salad, and more the size of an olive fork. Having all the serving pieces is a definite bonus. I was disappointed that the gold plating on the handles is only on the top of the pieces and not the back. But considering that it is a 72 pc. set of pretty stainless for a bargain price, I'm quite satisfied.

This set is so much sturdier than I was even dreaming of. Beautiful design. The case was much sturdier than I was expecting and it even comes with combination locks. The salad forks are smaller than most sets come with, but then I have never been a fan of the shape of traditional salad forks. For the price I paid for this set, I am totally pleased.

Mundial 5610-8 Cook's Knife 8"

Mundial 5610-8 8-Inch Cook's Knife, BlackThis is really a knife every serious chief should know about. I have one and love it. I use it to "protect" my nice knives from edge destroying jobs & have given a number of them as gifts to people for primary knife in second homes.

It performs better than many knives three times its price (although it's clearly inferior to any number of much more expensive finer forged blades). It is very tough. It is also VERY large: the blade is tall, the handle is thick, the bolsters are huge. If you normally use a 10" I'd advise downsizing to the 8".

If you told me tomorrow that my primary knife had to cost $100 or less this would be my choice.

A supplier gave my wife's restaurant the 8" chef's knife 25 years ago. Someone managed to break the handle in half (back to front) some years later. Even so it's remained the favorite knife, out of dozens of others, of everyone in the kitchen. I bought a new (complete) one for my wife and she won't tell the other kitchen people that she has it. It's light and has perfect balance. I'm only speaking for women food preparers but this knife is very apparently IT!

This knife is great. It's very sharp and reliable. I use it for everything! You really can't get anything better for the price. I have a handful of Ikea knives that are only 2 years old and I can't keep them sharp. It will be interesting to see if this one keeps its edge over time.

So far I'm very happy with the knife especially for the price!!

After reading about this knife in Bon Appetit Magazine under the "Best Knives Under $100.00" I thought its worth a try for $20. I first bought on of these 3 years ago and was blown away by how smooth it cuts and how light it is in the hand. Way better then any $100.00 knife I have used. 3 years later and using this knife everyday, I still am impressed with how the edge has held up on this knife. I have never sharpened it and only hone it about once a week.

The blade is a great size for any level cook and the high handle keeps your knuckles from slamming on the cutting board. This is a must have for every home. Once you use a knife that works for you instead of against you, it will change your life! (Well in the kitchen at least)

Want Mundial 5610-8 Cook's Knife 8" Discount?

I've owned a lot of knives over the years, some very good but quite expensive. Recently I needed a new knife but did not want to spend much. Bssed on the reviews and my previous experience with Mundial Futura knives (a higher end line of knives) I decided on this one and it has exceeded my expectations. I especially love the wide blade which leaves plenty of room for anybody's knuckles and makes scooping up the chopped bits and transporting them very easy. It is a stamped blade, resulting in a lighter weight knife but that;s fine. Stamped blades used to be considered inferior to forged blades but newer technology has made them much better. The plastic handle is comfortable. I use an inexpensive ceramic knife sharpener Lansky 8" Ceramic Sharp Stick to keep the edge sharp. Try it, you'll like it!

Swissmar Spachello

Swissmar Spachello, RedI bought this for peanut butter sandwiches. I buy peanut butter from Costco in the huge containers and you cannot reach the bottom without getting peanut butter fingers with a regular knife. This looked interesting. It is long enough to reach the bottom of a large peanut butter or mayo jar. The spreader side works well. The knife side cuts well too but is a bit awkwardly placed. The blade also makes me a bit nervous. It is very sharp. I think if you work with this utensil a bit and get the hang of it then you will be fine. Although I am not sure you save time or effort with this all in one. Maybe I am just a spazz. In retrospect I think I would have opted for just a bigger longer spreader with a silicone edge without the knife edge. It also seems to retain a lot of the peanut butter or mayo on the blade as it is not perfectly flat and smooth. Still a cool product and it is now part of my knife drawer. Which is another problem I wanted to put it in my gadget drawer but the sharp blade prohibits me from putting it there where I root around for stuff.

I bought this because I wanted a long spreader for large sandwiches, but it cuts great too. This isn't the first thing I'd buy if I was stocking a kitchen drawer with knives and such, but I really find it useful. If you don't make a lot of sandwiches I'm not sure you would need it. This is a fairly specialized item. I paid a lot less than 25.00 for mine too. I think I paid 11.95and I'm very happy with it for that price.

I have this sandwich spreader in red and absolutely love it. I convinced my husband to use it too. It is a perfect size for a man's hands, yet a woman can use it too. It slices beautifully as well as spreads. This time I ordered the green for our daughter-in-law. I'm not really fond of the color green, but I know she will love using it.

Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip Dual Sharp and Store 2-Piece Cutlery Set with Stand: 6-Inch Utility Kni

Furi Rachael Ray Gusto-Grip Dual Sharp and Store 2-Piece Cutlery Set with Stand: 6-Inch Utility Knife and 8-Inch Cook's KnifeI bought this as a gift for my daughter who is a big Rachael Ray fan and she loves it. The smaller of the two is her go-to favorite.

I got this knife set from my mother for Christmas. I love it. Unfortunately, the smaller knife broke when I was tapping it on a pan! I went to Furi Cutlery's web site and tried the e-mail there (sales@Füricutlery.com) but it was undeliverable. I called the phone number (925) 417-0617 and got "hello?". So I asked, "Is this Furi Cutlery" and the guy said "You have the right number but it is Sunday. Can you call back tomorrow"? WHAT KIND OF RINKY DINK BUSINESS IS THIS? Does this guy makes these knives in his basement or what? I mean, really. Come on!

I'll update this post after I find out what kind of trouble I have to go through to get the replacement.

Victorinox Cutlery 10-1/4-Inch Curved Blade Slicing Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Victorinox Cutlery 10-1/4-Inch Curved Blade Slicing Knife, Black Fibrox HandleLike many others, I purchased this knife based on the recommendation from America's Test Kitchen and was not disappointed. This slices through just about any bread with ease, even rolls and other springier bread, which most knives just flatten and mangle. At such a great price, I'm hard pressed to find anything that I dislike about the knife.

Half the battle of cooking is the prep. This slicing knife helps tremendously. It's an asset to any kitchen.

Easy and comfortable to hold. The Vitorinox reputation continues to be positive.

Kyocera Wide Julienne Slicers

Kyocera CSN-182S-NBK Wide Julienne Slicer, BlackI bought this looking for something easier to store, set up, and put away than my Bron mandoline, but wound up somewhat disappointed. This is hard to store, and there's some problems with how the blades are configured.

This slicer measures 3-5/8" x 8", plus another 3-1/2" for the handle, so roughly 3-1/2" x 12" overall. That's smaller than the 6" x 16" Bron, but still pretty big, and takes a lot of room in the drawer. The bigger issue with storage is that there no way to protect the blade. The cutting guard doesn't attch in any way, and it comes packaged on a card, so there no box to keep it in. As a result, you have to hang it up or find a spot where the blades won't be damaged.

The blade configuration is the second big problem. Unlike the Bron, the vertical blades sit exposed about 1/2" in front of the horizontal blade. 40 razor sharp vertical nibs of somewhat brittle ceramic are not what I'd call a good idea. Hard to store safely--do you want ribbons sliced into your hand while fishing around in a drawer?--and hard to protect from damage.

Usage-wise, this is effective. As typical for Kyocera, the blades on this are extremely sharp. I have some Kyocera knives over 12 years old that are still razor-sharp, despite never haveing been sharped. The one caveat is that you can chip the blades if you aren't careful.

Like most mandolines, the blade guard serves more to guard against lawsuits than actually providing a way to protect your hand. Leave a stub on the vegetables you're cutting, and use a dishtowel or a cut-resistant glove to protect your hand. Because the vertical blades are exposed and not tucked under the main blade, you'll need to be very careful as you get toward the end.

Cut-wise, this works pretty well. You get a standard julienne cut. I don't know why it's call a wide julienne. The only quibble is that unless you use a lot of downward pressure, you tend to get ribbons instead of square julienne. Downward pressure is dangerous because of those exposed vertical blades. On a standard mandoline, you can adjust to compensate for that, but here you are stuck with the designed blade spacing.

In the end this loses a star for the exposed blades, and a second star for the lack of a guard for storage.

I have been using this product for a few years now. It is a very simple kitchen tool that does the job well enough in many situations. It julianne slices ginger, cucumber, carrot, and a lot of other things, especially for those that are used in bulk quantity or only for flavor. For example, when I make ginger-infused dry vermouth, I can use less ginger and still extract ginger flavor fully and quickly by julienne slicing ginger. If I'm slicing ginger by hand, I'd not bother julienne slicing and use more sliced ginger and infuse a bit longer. But this thing is handy in a situation like this. (Julienne sliced ginger is easy to remove by straining.)

For salad and garnish, I would still slice them by hand. The cut surfaces do not look as pretty compared to the results I can get easily using a very sharp vegetable knife (which is generally true for a lot of cutting tools of this type). The advantage of this tool is speed and simplicity. Again, I would not use this thing to make garnish, unless I'm cooking for a large party. But then a better option is a professional quality mandoline with a proper blade.

Among a few other good options for julienne slicing, I still rate it 4 stars because it is simple, easy to use, quick to wash and store away. Professional grade mandoline would require more work to set up and clean up. Hand cutting would require clean cutting board space. This tool requires not much more than two hands to work with.

Buy Kyocera Wide Julienne Slicers Now

With this you get professional thin (amazon description says 1/8" but the one that arrived was 1/10" or 0.1" compared to 0.09" for the regular julienne slicer, I don't think that makes it much different to advertise this product as giving you a "wide" julienne... the size difference is so minute that you probably won't be able to tell) julienne cuts easily and fast! It is amazing.

The finger protector is not perfect but works fine when the vegetable gets to about 2 inches high or less. Obviously, it will leave about a 1/3 inch stump you'll have to either cut yourself or use it for another time. I say this because the julienne pieces are so beautifully uniform that you'd probably want to not mix anything else :)

What's great about this product is that the blade is made from ceramic with some kind of high tech diamond sharpened technology and it sure is sharp! And they don't rust or corrode and they advertise that it stays sharp 10 times longer than steel blades.

Highly recommend! My only regret is that I did not get the slicer together, I'm going to get the double-sided slicer, for vegetables like onions and peppers which can't be julienned.

I think I could make great hashbrown with this stuff in no time!!!

I bought this and it does exactly what I wanted and expected.

There is a typo on the package and in the product description: the strips produced are not 1" wide, they are 0.1"=2.5mm wide. The typo is clear enough from the product picture where the little verticle teeth are spaced at 1/10th of an inch, but I thought it might be worth commenting.

Love these slicers!

Want Kyocera Wide Julienne Slicers Discount?

I have used this slicer several times a week for almost 6 months. It is still as sharp as the day I got it. I use it mainly to slice carrots and cucumbers. Slicing is fast and easy. I can slice an entire cucumber in less than a minute. I generally just rinse the slicer well and let it air dry. I put it in the dishwasher periodically or after slicing carrots (to get rid of the orange carrot color). The slicer comes with a small plastic thingy with little plastic spikes to use as a holder when the vegetable or fruit gets small (to avoid thinly slicing your fingers -I have no doubt that this would slice fingers quite easily, although I have thus far avoided testing that theory!). The little plastic guard works, but it takes me some doing to keep a carrot or other really hard vegetable from slipping off, as the little plastic spikes work better on softer foods. The slicer is very thin, so storage is easy, even in my cramped kitchen. I lean it against the inside wall of a cabinet, slicing side toward the wall. I wouldn't want to stick it in a drawer, as I would be afraid of slicing my fingertips off while looking for it. The only real drawback I see is that the thickness of slices is not adjustable. You only get paperthin. I will have to see if they make one of these for thicker slices, as sometimes I want a thicker slice.

NEW cutting blade knife for Vintage Metal Kitchenaid Mixer meat grinder

NEW cutting blade knife for Vintage Metal Kitchenaid Mixer meat grinderDidn't realize how dull my blade was until I got a new one. Incredibly fast shipping and a GREAT product. I now use my grinder all the time.

I added this one to my collection for using in the kitchen. It is a good piece to have when cutting meat up with my Kitchenaid grinding set. Not flimsy, not cheaply made and strong made metal. I definitely would buy it again for my grinder and add to my collection so I can see what is in the ground meat that I grind up and not buy something the store says is a certain percent of this and that.

I bougth this to replace the cutting blade that I had for my 'Vintage Kitchenaid" which had dulled. My machine is over 40 yrs old (mom's). Nice sharp edges and ground the meat well (chicken). However, when washed and dried in the dishwasher the blade was rusty. I was able to remove the rust by hand but this product can not tolerate the dishwasher--disappointed as it is supposed to be stainless steel. This is why it is 3 stars and not 5.

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 4-Piece Steak Set

J.A. Henckels Twin Gourmet 4-Piece Steak SetI was looking for a quality steak knife that would not break the bank. I have a 4 star Henckel knife set, but did not have any steak knives. One of my main requirements, was no serrated steak knife. These fit that build and matched my existing set nicely. The knives are sharp and high quality. For the price these are some of the best. I am very happy with my purchase.

My wife and I have been using another brand of steak knives for the last five years. About 6 months ago, we replaced the rest of our knife set with Henckles. We fell in love with them. They are a quality knife that really keeps its edge (when properly cared for). So, we broke down and bought the Hollow Edge Henckel steak knife set. They are everything that we could ask for. Even though we don't have more than a month of time with them, I highly recommend using them. I am sure they will keep the edge like the rest of the set we have.

Just received these and desided to put them through the test. I rated them four stars but not sure if they completely reach that. They are sharp but not nearly as sharp as one would think or others are overly generous. I will be putting them on the stone to get them to the point they should be. I am very happy to get non-seriated blades so that I can make sure they stay razor sharp. A tad more heft in the handle would also be nice. But as the title says, they will do. After all, I don't eat steak or foods that need a very sharp knife at every meal.

Shun Kitchen Shears

Shun Kitchen ShearsI test drove many, many products by every name brand while shopping for kitchen shears, and the moment I lifted these shears out of the box and held them in my hands, I knew the search for meat and poultry shears was over. It was one of those "So this is the dining room" moments.

These are the Rolls Royce of kitchen shears. They are beefy enough to use on chicken bones and include a bone notch for that purpose, but are relatively lightweight and incredibly comfortable to use. The blades are extremely tough and sharp; the blade action is sublimely smooth. My only quibble with these shears is that I would prefer the blade tips be a tad sharper, but that is a minor quibble since these shears are dedicated for meat and poultry; I have other shears with smaller, sharper blade tips if I need them.

If you don't need to trim meat and poultry, these shears may be overkill for you. I also own both Fiskars and Victorinox kitchen shears and can unhesitatingly recommend them both for general kitchen use, although the Victorinox shears do not come apart for cleaning. In my humble opinion, the Shun shears are the ONLY general purpose kitchen shears on the market to use with poultry. If you do much trimming of meats or butchering of poultry, buy these shears!

(A cautionary note: Shun and Kershaw are now the same company. Please don't even consider buying the less expensive Shun or Kerhsaw "Taskmaster" shears before going to a store and comparing the two by holding them in your hands and testing them. The difference in the quality between the "Taskmaster" and these shears is night and day.)

When trying to decide whether or not to purchase these shears I wanted to see some reviews but there weren't any. I decided to buy them anyway and I just got them today so I wanted to leave feedback in case anyone is in the same boat, even though I haven't really used them too much. I'll start off by saying I'm a man with average sized hands.

First, these have a weight to them that my other kitchen shears Chicago Cutlery and Wustoff don't have, most likely because they use metal through the handle as you can see in the picture. The handles are made with a rubber-like material that is very easy to grip, wet or dry. They feel better in my hands than the other 2 sets I have, mainly because they have exactly enough space for all 4 of my fingers. They are extremely smooth out of the box and *very* precise. I say this because when I took them out of the box I pulled them apart to inspect them closer. I then tried to put them back together and wasn't able to. After a few minutes of fooling around with them I realized there was the tiniest little spec of dust on 1 of the blades. After removing it the blades snapped back together perfectly and feel as solid as ever.

I'll add more feedback after I use them for a little while but I've got to say, so far I've very impressed and seem to be worth the extra money they are definitely shun quality.

Buy Shun Kitchen Shears Now

As I get older, (way too fast), I find myself slower and less sure when cutting awkward items in the kitchen; like taking out a chicken or worse, a turkey backbone. A cut I used to make easily as doing a brass zipper hangs and I find myself trying to force pry a sharp chef's knife tip through bone joints. With the strength I'm putting into it, all it takes is one slip and the knife becomes a dangerous wild edge.

I've watched cooking shows with interest where the chef grabs a pair of scissors and snips safely through these same bony sections. Only when I've checked out the poultry snips in various stores, I've thought them uninspiring and sometimes horrid. Some are cheap stamped steel, some were flimsy, and others were polished or chromed but never meant to be real tools. After fifty years of using cutlery and slowly upgrading to high quality knives I've learned to be leery of steel marketed to be showy but not truly designed for efficient work.

Currently I only own one Shun knife, but I do admit to lusting for more of their knives. Unless Shun is terrifically marked down I just don't have an excuse to retire a Wusthof. I will spring for a Shun to fill a void though.

Truth be told, my Shun scissors arrived today and I really haven't used them yet. I was disappointed to find them in a blister pack and I only checked into Amazon to verify they were the right pair. A blister pack definitely cheapens them, handling the scissors convinced me though; easily twice as beefy as other poultry shears I`ve handled.

Like:

Heavy through the handle solid steel, short blades with long handles contributing to great leverage (think tin snips). Easy disassembly and cleaning, cuts everything I've used it on. I'm defrosting chicken right now so I can try them out in the kitchen later on.

Not so great:

The snips are finished a little rough. Edges not meant to be sharp are sharp, grinder marks are left on the cutting edges. I used a diamond hone and rounded the sharp corners and sharpened the cutting edges till the grinder marks were gone.

Dislike:

All right, maybe I was expecting too much, but the steel used in these scissors is not a hard knife steel. Grinder marks that should have taken an hour or more to remove if I was removing them from a wood chisel, were removed in less than ten minutes. This steel is soft relative to good cutlery steel. I suspect there was a tradeoff in utilizing rustproof stainless versus rust resistant high carbon steel. I'd rather Shun designed these for people who care about their tools instead of the fools who'd leave blood or salt on them. Well, I touch up or sharpen even my best knives every use, I guess I can retouch the edge of these scissors frequently too.

I bought these scissors around March of 2012. I've got the Ken Onion 10 inch chef's knife, the 7" santoku, a couple paring knives, sharpening stone and a bamboo slot block to hold them all. I bought these scissors to go into the front of the block and match my set. The only reason I bought this pair of scissors was because of the good reviews by the others and because of the brand.

These are not good reasons to buy this pair of scissors. Out of the box they cannot cut plastic bags which is one of the primary things I do when I open frozen salmon, veggies, etc. The tolerance they put into the connector holding the two sides together is too great.

Additionally the handles are NOT made with as advertised on this page with Ebony-black PakkaWood. It's just cheap plastic.

Finally, the leverage for cutting through food is not that great because they have the focal point so far from the hand. If you don't have strong, big hands like mine you will not be able to effectively use these scissors. My wife cannot use them.

I'm stuck with these because I did not return them within the 30 days, but there's much better out there especially for this price.

These scissors do not match the quality of the Ken Onion Shun line of cutlery.

Dexter-Russell Chef/Cook's Knife 8" Blade, Poly Handle

Dexter-Russell Chef/Cook's Knife 8' Blade, Poly HandleI had been looking for a Dexter Russel 8" Cooks Knife for months. I found it at Amazon. It had been recommended by Mark Bittman of the NY Times (The Minimalist) in an article he wrote about stocking your kitchen cheaply with good quality basic tools. These are the knives that are used in the back of restaurants and deli counters, as opposed to the fancy knives in infomercials and celebrity chef online stores. These are what those chefs buy for their cooks. They are inexpensive and yet lovely to work with solid, well-balanced, and sharp. I am thrilled with mine.

Newly diabetic and eating lots of veggies. Perfect knife for chopping and slicing. Keeps a great edge. Comfortable handle. Dishwasher proof.

I bought two.

I've had this knife for over 10 years and it is still my favorite. With this knife I learned the knife skills that allows me to work quickly and safely. The only things I really need in my kitchen are this knife, a cutting board, skillet and a wooden spoon.

The name says it all, Basics 8" Cooks Knife with White Polypropylene Handle. It's a basic 8" chef's knife, it has a nice stiff blade and a solid handle. I've had one for years and bought two from Amazon for Christmas gifts. A great all-around knife. The only draw back is that the "protective" sleeve it ships in isn't that protective. I bought this along with the Victorinox 47302 Cutlery BladeSafe for 6-Inch to 8-Inch Knife Blades which work great

This is the knife my husband always reaches for when he is doing the slicing and dicing. He prefers it over our much more expensive Furi knives that cost us a lot more money. Now the handle on one of those is falling apart so I'm here to get a few more sizes from this knife company. I also read Mark Bittman's review on this knife which is how we ended up buying this one. Highly recommended.

Hamilton Beach Panini Press Power and Preheat Lights and a Floating Lid Space-saving Storage

Hamilton Beach Panini Press Power and Preheat Lights and a Floating Lid Space-saving StoragePaninis are great, but we hardly ever make them with this. Instead, the range of items we DO use it for is huge. Warming tortillas (flour or corn), thin chicken breasts or steak slices, english muffins and bagels, even french toast are things we've made on this. The lines give neat char marks, and it never seems to burn anything.

The floating lid matters if you have thick items, and since it cooks from both sides things heat up quick. It's actually easier to clean than the Foreman grill, with less moving parts. Cleans up very easily with a paper towel and water.

I'd have given it five stars if the temperature could be adjusted...that would have been a neat feature. Instead, it's a single temperature but it works well and feels solid. There are cheaper ones but they feel cheap...this feels solid.

Dexter-Russell (S134PCP) - 3" Boston-Style Oyster Knife - Sani-Safe Series

Dexter-Russell - 3' Boston-Style Oyster Knife - Sani-Safe SeriesI earn my living as a cook. Every restaurant I've needed to shuck oysters in has these knives. This one was for my personal collection. I don't know what I'd do without it. It makes opening oysters a relatively easy operation, provides a good grip and plenty of leverage. I would recommend this for home users and pro's alike. Save your money and buy this instead of the Wusthof or JA Henckel models, it does the same thing for 1/4 of the price.

This knife is made to last a lifetime. The handle is designed for a solid grip and the rigid blade makes for a great oyster knife. I have owned the 4 inch version of this knife for about 20 years and I tend to prefer the extra length but both do the job better than any other knife I've used.

I bought two knives, both Dexter-Russell's with different style blades and they both opened oysters very well. Strong well built blades.

I've shucked approx. 5 dozen oysters since receiving this knife. It does the job well. Did a nice job on the smaller Kumamoto's.

Lobster splitter

Lobster splitterI bought this rosewood handled heavy knife thirty-five years ago when I routinely prepared five to eight pound lobsters.

This is a formidable knife. Woody Allen would have had less trouble if he were able to wield it.

I never use it now. It was my knife to halve even a three pound lobster with ease.

The Swiss steel is predictably soft, but the blade bevel has a high attitude, meaning that your crushing force cones to bear along the length of the blade. So cutting salmon or other fish is out of the question.

Hampton Forge Epicure 15-Piece Knife Set

Hampton Forge Epicure 15-Piece Knife SetI wanted some simple but well built knives, and in the picture these looked like they would fit the bill.

As I was unboxing them I realized what a mistake these where. The wood isn't nice, in fact it tends to deposit some sap looking stuff on the knives, and it has some knot thing on the lower portion, the wood glue is also coming undone from the top part. The knives themselves have a cheap feel to them, the handles are really light instead of feeling like anything of substance (as the metal tip would lead you to believe, and the black part is a thin rubber skin.

The blades themselves aren't bad, but they don't feel like they run the length of the handle or if they do, don't feel like they are held very solidly.

I'll use these at home, but the wood block thing is about to get chucked out, and the knives will be assimilated into the knife drawer until they get worn out or thrown out. Next time I'll pick some out at Target so I can have a better look and feel for them, and price shop on Amazon/online....

Buy this set if you like knives whose blade doesn't extend much into the handle and like others have said, snap and break very easily. We've had this set maybe 2-3 months and several knives have snapped when cutting things as simple as rice krispy treats and a block of cheese. People say the customer service is good but I don't see a point in calling when they never should've broken in the first place. Pretty sure there's nothing customer service can do for me for a poorly constructed set. It's much easier to return the product and give my business to a company that gives a hoot about making a product that's able to be used. It's too bad I had to rate it ANY stars at all.

I've bought this set in Target. It is nice looking and pretty sharp.

BUT it is rusting in washing machine (stainless steel???). (so I wash them manually one by one)

BUT the bigger issue is that in about 5 months four of the knives have broken. I've asked and got a free replace at the first one. BUT when in two weeks an other one has broken I've realized that we could play this for the 50-year warranty.

The steel shaft does NOT extend the length of the handle, the plastic soon breaks... (It happened with two others since. I don't dare to cut cheese, carrots or potatoes...)

Great knives for melted butter or jello... :(

I bought the hampton forge epicure knife set because they looked cool (oh my word...), i wanted a block and because i wanted a bread knife, mostly. At first this looked like an ok deal without investing alot until i could invest alot in fine knives.

Never do that.

It said it was msrp $80, which is like twice or more what it really goes for, anyway... Two days in i was cutting a room temperature, 1 1/2" by 2 3/4" piece of cheddar cheese with the "utility knife", not hard, and the blade snapped clean off. as you can tell from my ability to use language, i am not an ape. the tang goes approximately 3/4" of an inch into the handle. that's preposterous. I'm guessing i could snap every one in half using my pinkie finger and thumb. it's completely hidden by the sexy feeling black rubber so you can't tell that the blade is all but balanced on the end of the rest of the handle. I'm typing this on my way out the door to try and get my $30 back.

The bird's beak works well for seeding jalapenos.

Not too long after purchasing this set, the knives started rusting. After owning them for only 2 months, I decided to slice into a block of mozzarella with a steak knife. The knife handle promptly snapped off. Annoyed that the knife blade didn't continue further into the handle but assuming I applied too much pressure, I attempted slicing again using the utility knife. This also snapped in half with little pressure exerted. If these weren't out of their return period, I would return this trash immediately and buy something else worth the money. Don't buy these.

Global G-667/11 - Knife Case with Handle and 11 Pockets

Global G-667/11 - Knife Case with Handle and 11 PocketsI found this knife case to be very sturdy and solid. I haven't had the time to use it extensively over a longer period of time, but I do use it regularly through work. Its pockets start off quite tight, but I think this is great because I don't have to worry about my knives sliding out. After a few days, the pockets get worked in a fit my knives very snugly. I have filled almost all the pockets so far, so I might recommend that others with more knives in their kit purchase a larger case. I have a basic set of a chef's knife, slicer, serrated, paring, and backup chef's along with a steel. I have a few other small things that end up taking up the smaller pockets, but my knives fill up all the major slots.

I like the compact design and the secure feel of the Velcro that secures the kit as well as the handles which also have a Velcro tab, so it has two fasteners that ensure my kit doesn't open up unexpectedly.

I'm quite happy with this case so far but again I've only used it for short period (two weeks or so), and I'm not able to give a better review of the quality and durability over time.

I received a set of Global knives from my brother as a birthday gift. I bought a case solely because I don't want people using them 'as regular' knives in the kitchen. I'm anal like that.

The case is solid but doesn't fit certain knives. Just for fun I purchased the bread knife and the meat cleaver. I actually used my pairing knife to cut one of the seams to make the meat cleaver fit.

Otherwise a cool case and an ok buy for the price.

Bambu Cheese Plane

Bambu Cheese PlaneI am giving the cutter to a friend for his wedding present, but as far as Cheese cutters go, this is my favorite type since it can be used so much for many things. The seller was easy to deal with and there were no shipping or return policy problems. (I didn't return the product) Overall very satisfied.
