Premium Suction-Base Knife Sharpener Tungsten Carbide

Premium Suction-Base Knife Sharpener Tungsten CarbideReally bad copy of a good product! I purchased two of these. Took one out and tried to get the suction cup to hold as designed. It would not hold very well if at all. Tried the second one and the same was true. These are actually dangerous! If you get them to hold it's only going to be for a very short time and when you go to sharpen your knife it lets loose as you are pulling the knife through the little sharpening blades!

Spend more money and get the good one.

Does not work package say toy will not sharpen anything its a ripoff don't lose your money this is a peace of junk!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had the resources, I'd test the blades to see if they were really Tungsten Carbide or just High-speed steel. They certainly dulled rapidly against supposedly softer stainless steel. I won't buy this product again. I won't recommend it to anyone I know. I won't buy anything that looks like it was made by the same manufacturer.

Anolon Advanced Bronze Collection Santoprene Cutlery 4-Piece Steak Set, Bronze

Anolon Advanced Bronze Collection Santoprene Cutlery 4-Piece Steak Set, BronzeI love my Anolon knives, I bought to replace a missing knife in my cutting block set. The rubber on the handles is cheap and of low quality. My old knives had black plastic handles they look and feel much better. The knives do hold a great edge, my only disappointment was the handles.

TruBamboo Bermuda Bamboo Cutting Board

TruBamboo Bermuda 18-Inch by 12-Inch Bamboo Cutting Board, Extra LargeIt's big, it's beautiful and it the smell reminds me of the beach! the straw mats you lay on It is thick and heavy and sturdy.....love the two tone. Just hand wash (and if you have hard water dry with a cloth right away) and keep some bamboo oil on hand and your set for a loooong time! :)

It's a little expensive compare to other bamboo cutting boards in local supermarket, but good quality and perfect weight (not too heavy).

I read some places that when you buy cheap bamboo cutting boards that splintering can be a problem, but I didn't think it would be a concern upon receiving the item before any usage.

To try and rectify the problem, I washed it thoroughly with soap and warm water, dried completely, and finished with two generous coats of bamboo oil.

It seemed to diminish the amount of visible splinters, but to be fair I haven't used the cutting board since. I will give it a try with some dark-colored vegetables as a "trial" and see if it is good or not. Hopefully my mind will change and my rating will go up.

I found online for an extra-large cutting board, and this is the one I found with a reasonable price. It is nice and looks beautiful. The only consideration is that bamboo feels soft when I cutting something on it.

Want TruBamboo Bermuda Bamboo Cutting Board Discount?

We bought this bamboo cutting board from Target and within about six months the bottom side had mold visibly spreading just underneath/inside the surface (permeating the board). Such as it is, we'll now be investing in an Epicurean cutting board instead, which will be more sterile and maintenance free. Aside from the mold, this was a great cutting board for the short time we used it, and looks nice on a counter top. Just be sure to take special care in thoroughly air drying it after cleaning and perhaps using a special treatment to prevent the setting in of mold/bacteria. That's only my guess as to preventing this issue, though.

The quality of the product is awesome, just what I'd been hoping for and looking for. Only thing is I was surprised to see that it came in exactly the box seen in the photo, and nothing around, not even tape to keep the box shut during shipping. Kinda made me nervous that it went through all that and could have easily been opened and taken but the servingware looks great.

J A Henckels Professional "S" Hollow Santoku Knife 7"

J A Henckels Professional 'S' Hollow Santoku Knife 7'My fiance insisted that we buy this knife after watching Giada DeLaurentis use it on her show. "Are you kidding me? We don't need a $100 knife." Now, I don't know how I could survive without it. It makes cooking so much easier and so much more fun. I had an average set of knives that I got for Christmas when I first started living on my own. I only use this knife now. I can't wait until we get married so we can request an entire set of nice knives. If you can spring for it, you should get this knife. Make sure you get the professional grade, and make sure it's hollow. It helps to keep food from sticking to the blade, and it makes the blade stronger (at least that's what my fiance insists). I'm not a chef, and I don't know anything about knives, except that I couldn't cook without this knife.

I have about seven Henckels Pro S knives, which I bought ala carte, and this was the last one I purchased. Initially I bought it for a rather silly reason. I saw a lot of people using Santokus on television. Then one day I was in my local restaurant supply store, had some extra money in my pocket, and they had this knife on sale. So I bought it. I took it home, tried it out, washed it, put it in my knife block, and there it sat. Though I had tested it a bit at the store, I discovered I didn't really like the heft or balance of it, compared to my Pro S chef's. I was used to a bolster and a much heavier blade.

But, I eventually started using it. At first I discovered with the Granton edge, (what they call "hollow," here) it was great for slicing cheese. Cheese usually stuck to the side of my chef's knife, necessitating my peeling it away. With this knife, at least as often as not it just fell to the cutting board, and when not it was much easier to dislodge. Then I started using it to cut up veggies. Pretty soon I found that my Santoku had replaced my chef's as my automatic go-to knife. I use it all the time now, and am quite happy I bought it.

I still love my chef's for certain things, but for fast, light work I don't know how I ever got by without my Santoku.

And for those of you who wonder about the quality of this particular Santoku, I have had no problems keeping it quite sharp by touching it up on the steel regularly. I can't use one of those clear flexible cutting sheets; my knives cut them to ribbons.

And regarding the handle shape, these traditional handles feel good in my hands. However, it is all in what you get used to, as long as the blades are of good quality, as evidenced by my initial dislike and my later love of this knife.

I bought this knife as a gift for a wedding shower. I own one myself, and I love it. It works so well that I buy it for all kinds of gifts. Shower, wedding, or anniversary. It took me a long time to buy myself quality knives so to me giving a good knife that should last them for years is a gift I wish someone had given me. I am an avid cook and think anyone who needs a knife should definitely consider this one.

Overall, I like this knife alot. The one thing I don't like is how the slices stick to the blade. I thought that santokus were supposed to eleviate this problem which is why they have the indentations on the sides. Also, I own another Henkels knife from the Twin Cuisine line and I definitely prefer the Twin Cuisine handles to the Professional S handles

Want J A Henckels Professional "S" Hollow Santoku Knife 7" Discount?

For years, I used a chef's knife for all of my chopping and slicing needs in the kitchen. Mostly I cut vegetables and fruits. The Henckels knife is perfect for that. I'd say it's twice as easy as my old knife. The blade is very sharp, and the knife very well made. On the expensive side, but it should last a lifetime.

Stanton Trading 15 by 20 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, White

Stanton Trading 15 by 20 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, WhiteIt's not easy finding an HDPE cutting board! And this one comes in a few different sizes and colors. (Pay attention to that, because some sizes may not fit in your dishwasher (like this 15x20 version).

HDPE is not quite as soft on your knife as wood, but it's pretty easy on the knife. And it's certainly not as beautiful. But, while there seems to be some studies that show antimicrobial properties of some types of end-grain wood, you really need to have discipline and diligence to keep that highly porous surface sanitary.

And if you choose a composite like an Epicurean that you can put in the dishwasher, it's harder on the knife and some are manufactured with some nasty materials. Glass is without a doubt the best material from a health & ecological point of view, but it is also the worst on your knife.

And as an important aside, while wood can't go in the dishwasher and composite, acrylic and plastic can, that is somewhat of a red herring, as some dishwashers will not get hot enough to kill all microorganisms in what is likely a scarred surface. The truth is, if you are dealing with raw meats, you really just need to either spray/wipe OR soak in water with a little bleach and let air dry, then rinse. No matter the material.

Which brings me to plastic, if you have to sanitize with dilute bleach no matter the material, then you might as well use material that is both easy on your knife and that can place in the dishwasher. But most plastics will warp in the dishwasher. To avoid the warping you need high density polyethylene over just polyethylene. The former will hold up to heat while the latter will warp.

For me the pros:

+ Easy on your knives

+ Food grade material approved for use in commercial kitchens

+ Easy to clean and maintain for most jobs

+ Won't warp in the dishwasher

+ Not as bad for the environment as some composites

Outweigh the cons:

Not as good for the environment as using sustainable wood or glass

You need to watch for scarring over time and replace

It needs to be designed with a lip to catch overflow fluids

Overall, I would use this board for most jobs in the kitchen, unless you are a diligent and committed wood lover.

I had been looking for a nice white cutting board of this size for a while. I was not willing to overpay for one. This one was a great price and the board is of the highest quality. Order with confidence.

Gibson Mosaic Pearl 10-inch Round Wood Serving Bowl

Gibson Mosaic Pearl 10-inch Round Wood Serving BowlI am very pleased with this bowl. It's beautiful! I use it as a fruit bowl on our kitchen island, and now even when the fruit is down to one or two, the almost empty bowl doesn't look bare .... the beautiful golden-pearl mosaic tiles are so lovely that it still looks so attractive and nice! For my use as a fruit bowl, it would be nice if this bowl ran a little bigger (it's 10" across) as we have a big family and go through a lot of fruit per week. But it's still a nice size and will do just fine for us. I really like it thanks!

Chef'n Tower Grater 4 in 1 Stainless Steel Cheese Grater, Apricot

Chef'n Tower Grater 4 in 1 Stainless Steel Cheese Grater, ApricotWhen I saw this grater offered, I thought "what a clever design".

But the appearance is deceptive: the bottom can easily fall off, there are gaps so little bits of cheese can fall through, and overall the design is very bulky.

Ugh!

Try something else.

This little sucker is sturdy, but it's designed to be used, unlike so many other kitchen devices that seem to be designed to be looked at.

The removable bottom is fantastic for keeping stuff nice and secure. The included hand protector is a God-send to someone like my wife, who has a bad habit of scraping her knuckles on graters.

Excellent product!

Friedr Dick Paring Knife 3 1/2 inch, Forged

Friedr Dick Paring Knife 3 1/2 inch, ForgedGreat knife haven't have it long, but will buy more of this brand of knife again.

Ten years ago I bought my first set of knives. I didn't have a lot of money at the time, so I couldn't really afford Wusthof or Henckels, but I stumbled upon a little known (and sadly now defunct) website called "A Cook's Wares" that recommended F.Dick knives as an affordable option of equal or greater quality to the big names. I also liked knowing that "F Dick cutlery is used by 9 out 10 culinary schools worldwide". My F.Dick chef's knife, bread knife, carving knife, tomato knife, and paring knife have served me well over the years, but on occasion, my partner and I want the same knife at the same time. I can see a day where we need two chef's knives, but she felt a second paring knife would be the better option (and we only have one remaining space for a single smaller knife in our knife block).

Apparently things have changed in the last ten years. My knives were part of F.Dick's "Premier" series, but it seemed they were no longer offering that line, calling it now "Premier Plus". The product photos online aren't great (I plan to upload some higher resolution versions) but it looked like there might be some slight cosmetic differences between the two. The only way I could see for sure was to order one. For anyone who happens to be in my boat (which I assume is an infinitesimally small population), here are the chief differences between the two, having mostly to do with the handle:

* the edges of the Premier Plus handle are rounded, compared to well-defined edges on the Premier

* the black handle material of the Premier Plus has a more brushed, salty black appearance---I wonder if this will get darker/smoother with age/use

* the top side (spine) of the Premier Plus handle has a slight curve, while the Premier is completely straight

* the butt of the Premier Plus handle is a different shape, flatter, not cute and round like the Premier

The knife blade and the bolster look to be almost identical, with the exception of the tang now having a curved profile to match the curved top edge of the handle. I'll admit I like consistency, and sometimes wish perfectly good things wouldn't change. The old Premier's straight handle and defined edges look more professional to my eyes. That said, I'm sure when we start using the new paring knife, we'll find the rounded edges and curved back more comfortable in the hand. Time will tell.

One last thing. I wanted to mention that the ugly little red diamond logo you see in the product photos---that's just a sticker. It peels right off.

Wusthof Culinar Chef's Knife

Wusthof Culinar 6-Inch Cook?s KnifeWusthof makes the best knife blades in the business, and in my opinion the best quality knives. Cheaper knives generally dull more quickly, and some never get truly sharp at all. Wusthof knives, in contrast, get clean, exact cuts every time, and are a joy to use.

These Culinar knives are a cut above even the Wusthof Classic design on which Wusthof made their reputation. When one picks up a Culinar knife, it feels like the handle molds itself to one's hand, as if the knife is an extension of oneself, rather than a mere implement.

A close look at the shape of the handle will show why. Wusthof Classic and Grand Prix knives along with the knives of most other manufacturers have a traditional handle shape, thicker in the middle with a straight back. That does provide a good strong grip if your hand is the right size and they are pretty good for me, since my hands are of average size.

The gently curved shape of the Culinar handles, though, while providing just as strong a grip, allows more control over the cutting action and the precise angle of the blade. The convex back of the hilt fills out the palm, providing more contact for a more secure hold. The taper in the handle makes it a perfect fit not just for average size hands, but for any size hand: a smaller hand will stay toward the bolster, where the handle is thinner, but a bigger hand will cover the handle further back, where it is thicker.

The bolster the thick part at the base of the blade has also been refined for the Culinar line. The transition from blade to bolster is gentler, and rather than being cut straight across the blade, the bolster is angled slightly to facilitate the forward hold used by some chefs. In this forward hold, the index finger is angled down on the right side of the blade the left side for left handers just past the bolster and the tip of the thumb is on the blade on the opposite side from the index finger. The forward hold facilitates a rapid rocking cut where the edge of the blade near the tip is held in contact with the cutting board, and the rest of the blade is rolled down on the food to be cut. A rapid rocking action with one hand while feeding the food through with the other can reduce the food to the desired slices, strips, or dice in record time.

The Culinar chef's knife is available in several lengths. The 20 cm (8") length is the one most commonly used, and the one I have; it works well for almost any cutting task in the kitchen. There are times when it feels like a larger size might work even better, such as when using a rocking cut on a large vegetable, but the 8" blade length always seems to be sufficient in the end. Note that the length is measured along the cutting edge of the blade; the back of the blade is slightly longer in Culinar knives due to the refinements in the bolster shape.

When first introduced in 1999, Wusthof Culinar knives cost about double the equivalent Classic knives. They were worth it if you could afford them, but many could not. Now, though, the prices on the Culinar knives have been reduced to only about one third more than that for the Classic knives. If you are in the market for a chef's knife, stretch a bit and buy a Culinar. You won't regret it.

My husband splurged on this knife for my birthday this year and I love it! It has a nice weight and feel. I also like the all-metal design! I am looking forward to lots of great cutting and chopping with this great knife.

Santoku Knife, 7.13 in. Black Ceramic Blade,Ergonomic Handle

Santoku Knife, 7.13 in. Black Ceramic Blade,Ergonomic HandleThis is a cool knife, half cleaver and half chef's knife. Although, generally you use it more like a knife, because a cleaver doesn't have a bevel edge. The thing about this knife is that it is sharper than any steel, due to being ceramic. The blade is very wide too. If you slipped with this knife, it would make a horrifically deep cut. Since it is so damn sharp, I've been using mine to cut things. Haha. It is good for cutting ribs off a rack. The handle is unconventional, but you can get used to it. Overall, if you want to try a ceramic knife, this one is not bad. If I could change it I would make the point a bit more pointy, get rid of the bevel edge, and put a conventional handle on it. Still, it is 4 star knife.
