Portion PadL and Rocker Knife Combo

Portion PadL and Rocker Knife ComboEvery Friday night is homemade pizza and a movie family night. The metal disk pizza cutters last a couple of months and go dull and it was a challenge to cut straight with the toppings being pushed around. We saw this and decided to give it a try. It works great. Center the pizza, push the cutter down in the center and rock it back and forth a couple of times in the grove and you have a nice straight cut.

It is not big enough for our largest pizza pan, but if your pizza fits on this board it works great!

Victorinox Honing Steel 10-Inch Round Smooth Polish, Black Plastic Handle

Victorinox Honing Steel 10-Inch Round Smooth Polish, Black Plastic HandleSmooth and Polished ... should NOT removed any metal

Which is what you want in a steel.

The steel is ONLY to straighten out the blade after the edge is curled somewhat

If you need a true smooth steel, this is not it, but for most carbon steel kitchen knives it will be satisfactory. Works fine for my 1970's Sabatiers.

Buy Victorinox Honing Steel 10-Inch Round Smooth Polish, Black Plastic Handle Now

Steeling your knives realigns the microscopic teeth on the knife blade (honing) and should not remove metal like a stone or file. Every other steel I could find had a grooved or file-like surface on it so I went with this one and it is great. It has a very slight texture to it like brushed metal but no grooves and is long enough to use with an 8" chefs knife. I do wish they sold a 12 or 14" version for my longer knives.

Zhen Japanese Steel Hollow Ground Chef's Knife 8" + Paring Knife 5"

Zhen Japanese Steel Hollow Ground Chef's Knife 8' + Paring Knife 5'I got these knives a short while ago, shipping to Hawaii was prompt. I considered buying the Zhen Damascus knife kits but got lazy and decided not to make the handles by myself from hardwood at this point. So I ordered this pair and the matching 10.5" bread knife for the interim. Excellent products for the price (the Zhen Damascus knives are better but more expensive). The knives I got are very sharp, no doubt about it! Tomatoes etc. slice in half so easily. These knives are contemporarily designed by fusing the blade and handle together as one piece which may be a benefit in the long run? Actually I kind of like the look!

The 8" chef knife is so light, well balanced, sharp, and just great to look at, it is now my absolute favorite knife in my collection! The paring knife is also just as great! I greatly look forward to working with it, cutting strawberries, pickles, segmenting grapefruit, it does it all and the hollow ground makes cutting, slicing, and dicing much smoother! I love these knives so much, and so do my coworkers! If anyone is thinking of buying one the 440C knives and is not sure of the difference between the VG-10 and 440C listen, the 440C knives are just softer than the VG-10 knives the means they will get as sharp but the edge won't last as long, witch isn't a bad thing, a few strokes on a good steel and there back in Business!

Light weight one piece construction. Feels nice if a somewhat unsubstantial. Won't replace my Henckel's or Globals, but would be great to throw in a roll and take on vacation.

I got these for Christmas and they are wonderful. The handles may look strange, but they are designed to fit your hand perfectly. They are well balanced for a confident and comfortable grip. I love how there is NO seam from the blade to the handle as food born pathogens can live in those cracks. The ONLY drawback is the "grip strip" design. They are not needed and I worry about the wear and longevity of such a material. Other than that, I love them to pieces!

I'll have to wait til I receive them to comment on how well they handle. But hey, Japanese Steel, how can you go wrong? :-D

Boston Warehouse Spreader, Set of 4

Boston Warehouse Bright Happy Kitchen Spreader, Set of 4I love these. They are so cute. And the detail on the cats is great. I can't wait to use them.

This is an item that not only cat lovers must have. Besides the fact that they are very useful, they are very well made, with nice details and sooo cute!

I actually bought these for my 4 year old granddaughter to use as flatware. Of course with the cats, they are not flat...haha. They are really cute though. She likes to use my fish spreader when she visits me, so I thought I would put these in her Christmas stocking to take home and use at mealtime. They do make a nice spreader for adults also...especially those cat-loving friends of yours.

These were cute, but cheaply made. One handle broke the first time I tried to cut some room temp monterey jack. And instead of saying "handwashing recommended" they should say "NOT dishwasher safe" , as all of the paint came off in the first run in the dishwasher. I would NOT recommend or purchase this product again, and am disappointed.

Want Boston Warehouse Spreader, Set of 4 Discount?

These spreaders are great for Halloween. The finish on the handles is nice. The painted features are also good. The only thing that is not up to snuff, is the blades. They are very thin and the finish is a little spotty.

It's a small thing. I have Christmas spreaders that have the same problem. I guess it's just part of the deal when you get cheap holiday themed spreaders from China but since the blades will be covered with "spread" they won't really be seen. What will be noticed is the cool handles.

Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 8-Inch Slicing Knife

Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 8-Inch Slicing KnifeI got this as a gift and it slices so well like butter. Used it over a month everyday and still sharp but not like new. The problem I have is that it does'nt fit well in my hand and my ankles hurt when i chop/slice vegetables. Its not a chefs knife but still i would want it to feel good in my hands. there is something wrong about the design that doesnt allow me to chop effortlessly.

Looks reasonable quality for the price but the handle seems light.

I like the handle of this knife and the fact it won't discolor over time the way my wooden handled knives did.

Buy Chicago Cutlery Metropolitan 8-Inch Slicing Knife Now

Great knife, it was sharp and is well sized. I think that the knife is not thick enough, and it does not have the weight I am used to. It looks cheap, because of its width. I disliked the tapered top, but I should have noticed that in the picture. Also, I think that they could have used better material for the handle.

Chanukah Festival Canape or Cheese Knife Spreader Set of 4

Chanukah Festival Canape or Cheese Knife Spreader Set of 4This is honestly our first 'bad' review. We like the look of these, but two of them broke during their first use and the other two are quite loose in their handles.

This is a fun and colorful set, but they felt light and cheap when we unpacked them...one handle already broke when trying to use to spread a semi-soft cheese.

Spatulas - Rosewood Straight Blade 8

Spatulas - Rosewood Straight Blade 8I am very pleased with the quality and appearance of this spatula. I have used it several times and it is exactly what I was looking for.

Recieved this on time and in good condition. I do love the black handled ones better, however, this is a great little tool for small cakes, and for frosting down the sides. Good quality, and great for the price!! A must-have for cake decorating.

While this item was almost a direct replacement for my previous spatulas, the difference is with the flexability of the blades. Research didn't show me any items with a thinner and more flexable blade for the same size item.

I was looking for an heir to my 80 year old butter knife. This is a good choice. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a full-tang blade, but what's to be expected for 3.00?

My main use for this will be as a butter/peanut butter/jelly knife. The eight inch length will get to the bottom of most jars.

Personally, I would prefer a longer blade for cake-decorating. I don't like any part of my hand or spatula handle going over the cake.

Delivery was stated to be by the end of August. I didn't get it until mid-September. I didn't get any email from the seller telling me there would be a delay.

P.S....I just clicked on the item to verify some information and I see the price went up to 5.00

Arcos Maitre 6-Inch Utility Knife

Arcos Maitre 6-Inch Utility KnifeThis knife is excellent for its price range. Even if there are better knives for this kind of money out there, it would take you much more time and effort to find them than is worth it. For $12 this is a decent allaround knife. Why only "decent"? Read ahead.

First, the steel of the blade is not so great, it cannot be sharpened too well because of the large grain and its relatively soft. Also it means that it will have to be resharpened more often.

The design of the blade is not perfect eitherthe straight part is too short and its too thick, therefore when using it on vegetables such as potatoes, it does not perform perfectly. It still is much better than any cheapo knife, just bear in mind that you will have to slice rather than cut.

However, all of this is nitpicking. The bottom line is that this is a fantastic knife for this kind of money and with a bit of care, it will serve you for many years to come.

MIU France Ceramic Nakiri Knife, 6-1/2-Inch

MIU France Ceramic Nakiri Knife, 6-1/2-InchThis is the first ceramic knife I have ever owned and so far, I'm impressed. My first job was as a prep cook, so I've done a lot of chopping and mincing of vegetables and fruit, and endless hours prepping meats for cooking. Here's what I have found:

1. It's sharp, really sharp.

2. The Nakiri shape works well for everything you'll need the knife for, so don't worry if you think it looks a little odd or would handle differently.

3. You'll be paranoid about breaking it the first few times you use it, but you'll get past that.

A note on that last point. All the reviews I have read about ceramic knives say the same thing. They're really sharp and they're really fragile. i.e. don't cut bone and don't throw it down onto a hard surface. The knife itself is thick enough to hold up to some banging around, but you will want to be careful about hitting the blade against hard surfaces. If you treat the rest of your knives like an adult and don't use them for stupid things i.e. knife throwing contests, you don't need to worry about breaking a ceramic knife.

Happy chopping.

I purchased this knife recently after reading about the benefits of ceramic and the description is right super sharp, precision slicing and my food does not brown! I can't believe it. I use this knife for all my prep work in the kitchen it's my new 'go to' knife. I hightly recommend adding this ceramic knife to your cutlery sets.

Buy MIU France Ceramic Nakiri Knife, 6-1/2-Inch Now

I work as a chef, and so i keep an eye out for any kitchen equipment that might be useful at work or at home, or that are interesting for some reason. This knife fits the bill for home use, and is interesting to boot. It is true that the ceramic diminishes the amount of bruising/browning from fruit and veggies. I believe that is directly due to it not being metal, which seems to brown things cut more quickly (chemical reaction? I'm not sure). Although a sharp edge also reduces the rate of decay, as it were, this is the same whether metal or ceramic, so that isnt a direct reason. Anyway, the knife does stay sharp a little longer than, say, a Wusthoff, but not so much so that it becomes a deciding factor.

Okay, now that we've gone through the advertised benefits, which are real, but not so much so that it should be a true deciding factor (unless this is going to be the only knife you use), why buy this knife? For me, the knife is a well balanced blade that is easy to use. It isnt very large, so it fits well in your kitchen drawer when not used (and comes with a sleeve). In fact, the overall feel of the blade becomes the deciding factor for me. It is comfortable and, as i said before, well balanced. With that, the lasting edge and reduced bruising can then become a factor. At a little less than $40, it is very reasonably priced for a quality blade. If you cook frequently, you will still want to have a few other knives on hand (at least a paring knife and an 8 or 10 inch blade for larger scale prep work). Either way, you will find this knife to be handy, and a worthy addition to your personal kitchen (i dont see it as a practical blade in a work setting however).

One further note: ceramic blades are notorious for shattering. So far, i haven't had any issues, but just be aware of this. If you have butter fingers, you may want to avoid ceramics.

I got this on gold box special the other day. The knife is great for cutting vegetables, and makes a gentle push cut almost effortless. It's also very comfortable to hold for a person with smaller hands. But when I tried to slice the ends off a particular sturdy garlic clove it refused to cut. To be fair, my 8" Forschner chef's knife couldn't do it (where did this garlic come from?). But it ended up producing 3 tiny chips across the blade. They don't affect the cutting ability, but at this rate the edge won't last very long. And although they stay sharper longer, you generally have to send ceramic knives away to be sharpened. So I'll probably end up returning this one.

Want MIU France Ceramic Nakiri Knife, 6-1/2-Inch Discount?

A couple of things to note this knife is sharp, but also a bit fragile so be careful with it in all counts. Also it is made in China not France. Overall not a bad ceramic knife but know what you are getting into with ceramic knives -they have pros and cons very sharp but a bit more hassle tan steel blended knives.

Steak Knife 5

Steak Knife 5OK, this is a really good steak knife. The handle is a nice, square, secure to grip with your hand. I find that it is just as good on humungous steaks as skinny ones. The blade is high carbon stainless steel that is just as good as Japanese or German ones that cost 4 or 5 times as much. Now that I am used to it, the fancy steak knives that expensive steak houses supply are pale and inefficient in comparison.

However, that is not the reason I give it such a high rating. I find it to be a fabulous prep knife: soft, heritage tomatoes, cooked veggies, fruit, bread and sandwich rolls, anything that is soft. For me, this is just as essential as my big chef knife.

Norpro Magnetic Lid Wand

Norpro Magnetic Lid WandNorpro Canning Lid Wand.

If you're still using the ol hot dog tongs to pick up jar lids, you know what a pain it can be to just get one lid out of a pot of boiling water!

This is the PERFECT tool for the job! Worth every penny.

Picks up one lid everytime without fail.

No more sore fingers/hands from using tongs. No more droped/ruined lids!

Regardless if you do a little or alot of canning this little tool IS A MUST HAVE!

Wish I would have bought one of these little jems years ago!

Anyone that cans needs this tool. I can reach into the scalding water with this wand and pick up a lid, then place it on the can. Wow, no burns. It is a lot better than trying to fish out a lid with a fork (my old way). It helps to keep everything sterile while canning.

Knife arrived very quickly and packaged well. This knife is very well made with great attention to detail (fit & finish). Light weight and great balance will make this effortless to use. Grind is very good no over grind to be seen and it should take a wicked sharp edge once it meets the stones. I have other Japanese knives and this one will be used often. I spent hours searching different knife dealers online looking for the best knife for my dollar. I had not heard of this brand before. So I was a little worried at first. After reading pages and pages of knife nerd forums, I made my choice. Trust me when I say that you will not find a 10.5 inch Japanese gyuto for a better price. And this is not a cheaply made knife. I use Wustoff knives and a variety of other Japanese style knives at work. And the quality of the Yoshihiro is superior.

I'm really happy with this purchase.

Unless you want to spend $350 or above on a Japanese knife, you should search no further.

And it's nice to know that I'm not giving my money to some "knife factory giant".

Shun Ken Onion DM0504 10-Inch Slicing Knife

Shun Ken Onion DM0504 10-Inch Slicing KnifeThis knife is beautiful. Like all of the Shun Ken Onion knives it is well weighted and extremely sharp (straight from the box). However it is not 10-inches as the above title and description outlines. It is instead only 9-inches. This of course doesn't impact at all on its functionality; it's still incredible. But it begs the question of who measured it for this description... perhaps someone who likes to overestimate in other areas also...

This is a beautiful kitchen addition. It's different enough to demand experimentation. It's big when you want big. It is stable when you need chop to fine julienne.

5-star on utility and value.

Sharp as a razor, this knife makes slicing veggies way more fun than it should be. I'm still amazed at how effortless it is to use the Shun slicing knife. The curved blade takes a little getting used to but works nicely when you need to rock the blade making a fine dice.

Funny thing is I'm eating a lot more veggies cuz I love to cut them up.

Wickedly sharp as well as beautiful, it's unique curvature and stunning design make it a joy to use and a coveted kitchen piece when other people see it in use. Did I really need it? of course not. Kyocera Revolution Series 3-Inch Paring Knife, White Handle and White Blade

Kyocera Revolution Series 3-Inch Paring Knife, White Handle and White BladeI would not have bought this on my own accord as it looks a bit cheap but the salesman at Sur la table recommended it. I loved it so much I bought one for my mom. Slices through veggies like butter! I am glad I took the salesman's advice.

Very light weight, good handle, EXTREMELY sharp!! Best knife for prep cutting vegetables. Read instructions; knife cuts utilizing a straight slicing motion not intended to carve or chop straight down on tile, glass or plates. Must be used with a cutting board do not use on a cutting mat, the blade will slice through the surface. If you allow children to help with meal preparation I would not recommend that they use ceramic knives.

Mercer Millenia M22003 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife

Mercer Millenia M22003 3-1/2-Inch Paring KnifeThis is a great knife.

We searched for one that fit our needs for a long time. Bought and tried several brands before hitting on the Mercer Millenia M22003 3-1/2-inch Paring Knife. This one finally made the grade. Everything about it is right; blade length and width, handle size is perfect and the quality of the knife itself promises years of good service. The blade is extremely sharp and is hollow ground which gives it the ability to suffer many sharpenings if necessary. Mercer makes long lasting and quality products.

I definitely find it easy to give this knife (5) stars and highly recommend it.

I love this knife. The grip is ultra-comfortable, and it sharpens well. I'm willing to pay a couple hundred for a chef's knife, but for a paring knife, I doubt you that you can do much better than this.

I take very good care of my knives and these mats stand up well to slicing and chopping without dulling the edges. And the fact that they will not slide around is terrific. I use them directly on my granite countertops and they stay put thoughout the prep work but are flexible enough to pick up and slide the veggies into a pot. They don't stain and clean up easily. Victorinox 5-Inch Mini-Chef's Knife with Fibrox Handle

Victorinox 5-Inch Mini-Chef's Knife with Fibrox HandleI don't like to use a big heavy and rigid chef's knife for most chopping tasks, so I always found myself using a paring knife with a little flex. Paring knives also have their limitations though, so I have been looking for a knife somewhere in between.

This little beauty fits the bill perfectly and has quickly become the workhorse of my knife collection. The handle is much more comfortable and grippy than a classic knife and the unusual shape of the blade allows both slicing and rocking chopping with equal ease.

A great 'in-between' knife.

We bought the 3-piece Victorinox chef's set a year ago. We love it, but frequently found that both my husband and I wanted to use the smallest (little over 4") knife in that set. So, I bought this 5" Chef's knife. Now we both want to use it all the time.

Like all the Victorinox chef's knives, this is wonderfully sharp, well-balanced, and has the great no-slip fibrox handle (which I at first thought seemed cheesy but now think it the greatest handle ever). But in addition, the angle (I think) of this blade somehow makes the knife miraculously fall through whatever you're cutting, almost without any expenditure of energy at all. It's a bit uncanny.

Also, the length seems perfect for most jobs . . . not at all unwieldy or scary like the longer ones, but long enough to just require a single fast smooth flow for most cutting tasks. Small and manageable enough that I don't use my paring knives anymore except when I want to peel something, but long enough that I avoid the anxiety of using the big chef's knives. Definitely worth the price.

It's amazing how many knives I have bought and simply do not use. After working in a commercial kitchen for a while, I can tell you that nothing beats the Forschner brand of knife with the Fibrox handle. They are well balanced, easy to clean, and hold a very good edge. This 5" knife is one I use often. In fact, if I'm not using my 10" chef's knife, odds are this one is in my hand. If you are looking to create a great set of knives, this is a great place to start.

I have used this knife for several weeks now and love it. I have a set of Chicago cutlery that I have problems keeping sharp even with a ceramic sharpener and steel. The plastic handle of the Forschner is nice as I don't have to worry about soaking a wooden handle (like in the Chicago cutlery) in the dishwater too long. The wooden hangles tend to swell and discolor over time with too much water exposure. This knife is very sharp. My husband cut himself while preparing a meal. I have not had to sharpen it yet. I hope to find that it is easy to sharpen when needed and maintains its sharpness.
