The shape of the cheese board is quite nice, and the crumb groove is very clever. the problem? The wood is unfinished, which means that the oils from the cheese soak into the wood and cause discoloration. I am concerned that this is not very sanitary.

I bought this gift for a baby shower. It is a great little set and I am going to accompany it with some nice cheese! The product itself is great and I would have to disagree with an earlier review about the sanitation of the cutting board. I have many wood cutting boards and the finish does not really determine the sanitation of the surface. The se looks great and it will be a great gift.

All of my baking pans were ruined by rust and mold in a flood so I ordered this to have some basics again. I'm going to order another whole set because they are very nice, good sizes and non-stick. I definitely recommend this set to anyone setting up a new apartment or home. They will last a good while if properly cared for so unless you are a professional baker and want to invest in high priced bakeware, this is perfect.

Very happy with this product so far. It truly is non-stick and so easy to clean after using. I have used the cookie sheet the most and the quality seems to be very good...no warping (again, so far).

I was very excited to receive the product because all of my baking products have been ruined by my male roommates who do not know how to use them. Within two days, I recieved the product and it was excellent. So far I have used all the bakeware except the cake pans since I don't typically make cake. The muffin tin, loaf tin and cookie sheet are all non stick and excellent with even heat distribution so everything cook perfectly and evenly.

I would recommend this to everyone, especially for the cheap price.

Got these on sale on Amazon. Got them in the mail shortly after ordering and opened (and put them to use!) right away. Definitely am happy with my purchase. 2 cake pans, 1 bread/loaf pan, 1 muffin pan, and 1 cookie sheet. I really wish it was a 12-muffin pan instead of a 6-muffin.. but doesn't affect how much I love this set! I've used the cookie sheet almost daily since ordering and no warping, or any other negatives, have occurred. EASY TO CLEAN! Overall happy and satisfied.

Calphalon Contemporary 8-Inch Bread KnifeA bread knife is a specialized tool -you really can't use it for much other than cutting bread. It's tempting to purchase just any bread knife. But this is forged, rather than stamped, and the reduced flexing of the blade goes a long way towards making the slice the slice you wanted rather than what you happened to get. Functionally, this knife is beyond reproach. Even with crusty breads, the crumbs are minimized.

It does not use the traditional three-rivet handle -the handle is molded. But it is a full tang, and there's no reason to expect any loss in longevity.

I gave this four, rather than five, stars primarily on the basis of the appearance of the blade -but this is a matter of personal taste. Unlike knives used in the kitchen (where getting the job done is the job, and the appearance is not particularly important) a bread knife is likely to be used before guests. The utilitarian appearance of the blade is entirely appropriate to my tastes, however it may not appeal to those who expect a highly-polished appearance. Also (and this is visible from the photos) this bread knife does not have an offset handle, which may be awkward with large cutting boards.

This is absolutely the BEST knife I've ever used for cutting bread. Even when the bread is piping hot this knife glides right through it w/ease and doesn't even begin to squash or damage the loaf. I'm amazed how thin I can cut slices (when the bread is cool). It's a fab knife. Just be careful it cuts well for a reason! It's sharp as all heck! GREAT knife!

i was VERY HAPPY when i read the reviews about this product being "too thin" for their liking. i had purchased (few yrs ago) several farberware 9x11 thin (hair over 1/8") poly cutting boards. i used them DAILY and liked being able to have them on hand for different foods while i was cooking. well, they were getting old & beat up with heavy use, so it was time to replace them. i searched all over and couldn't find them anywhere! then i found the larger size here, but was concerned that maybe the dimensions might not be accurate (it was described as .2" thick). imagine my delight when the reviews confirmed they were indeed the 'thin' boards. they arrived yesterday (i ordered 4!) and i LOVE THEM!!! i use them for EVERYTHING!!... vegies, fruit, meat, etc... and they clean up beautifully in the dishwasher :-)

i just wish they still made the 9x11 size in this thinner board...

I just learned a lesson. Never leave feedback too soon. I'm leaving my original feedback below but here's what I say after using it quite a bit today. Oh..I also gave it another star. Yes, the board is as thin as described below but I'm starting to think it's no big deal. I just diced and chopped and minced and sliced using this board. It has remarkably few scratches or marks of any kind after all that. This thing is really dense...more so than a more expensive one I bought not too long ago. I'm going to be very happy with it. Oh...and I diced red peppers and no stains. Now to the original feedback.

Nice but expected it too be more substantial. This one is shy of 1/4" thick. It will be useful and I'm sure I'll be happy with it but might still look for another one a tad larger and at least a full 1/4 inch or even a wee bit thicker. It's great to have a selection of board in the kitchen anyway. For $10 bucks it's a good deal.

I bake my own bread and have quite a mess of crumbs when I slice it, which is why I wanted to try a crumb-catcher cutting board. This one is not too big and does the trick. Fits easily into a drawer, standing next to my pots and pans. It is also attractive and reversible. The crumbs definitely get caught in the slats. I still, of course, have some crumbs on the counter, but it is a bit neater. I put a rubber pad under the cutting board to keep it from sliding on my granite counter-top (actually, it is a leftover scrap of padding that I cut to put under a rug).

I should have measured it out at home. This is half the size I expected it to be. In fact, I might get another one and glue them together. I really like the cutting board. We always have problems with crumbs and our last wood bread cutting board from IKEA did not last very long at all.

First inspection of this product it looked like it would serve the purpose. It had not been oiled nor prepared for use but after one cleaning it fell apart. It is pieces glued together not one slab of wood. Terrible value.

MinoSharp Sharpening Guides 2-Piece Set

MinoSharp Sharpening Guides 2-Piece SetPeople who criticise this product simply don't know how to use them. My own experience as an amateur, who wants really sharp kitchen knives, is as follows:

For sharpening kitchen knives to that really razor sharp edge, you must use sharpening stones (I recommend Japanese waterstones, Shapton, Ice Bear or King brand all readily available) starting from medium grit and progressing to fine then extra fine grit. The final grit should be at least 6000 grit. Personally, I use a Shapton 12000 grit final stone, and finish off with gentle stropping on a leather strop, with Cr0 powder on it. This gives a true razor edge. We are talking about an edge of 0.5 micron width. This is the same as the best quality razor blade.

When sharpening blades to this fine an edge, it is critical that the blade MUST be kept exactly at a constant angle to the stone (usually about 15 to 20 degrees). The difficult part for most of us is to hold that constant angle just using your un aided fingers. Unless you are a real expert, you will be like me unable to maintain that exact angle constantly when sharpening freehand. Because human hands and fingers are too flexible!

The answer is these simple clip-on guides. They slide onto the back of the knife and hey presto there is your fixed angle. You can slide the guide onto the straight part of the knife (nearer to the handle) to sharpen it, then move the guide onto the curved part near the point) to sharpen that part of the knife. This means that you are sharpening the knife in sections.

The current guides (made in China) have plastic sleeves which prevent scratching the knife, older guides with no plastic can easily be made non scratch by installing your own sleeve from a cut down plastic milk bottle, folded in half and pushed into the guide.

I have used these guides on my Global knives and other Japanese kitchen knives and have found that the knives are much much sharper than new.

Incidentally, these guides, when used as directed, will give a blade edge angle of about 10 degrees. This different from what most sharpening advice (including Global's own)which is normally about 15 to 20 degrees. No matter the more acute angle gives a much sharper edge.

Also I recommend using a ceramic "steel" in particular the Kyocera CSW-18 which has a super fine grit and is far superior to diamond "steels"

If you've read this far you might be interested in doing some net research on knife sharpening. There are some very good tutorials there.

A "must buy" book is Chad Ward's "An edge in the Kitchen". This book has just been released. Available from Amazon and highly reviewed. Chad tells you all you ever need to know about selecting, using, and sharpening kitchen knives.

I've owned a Global chef's knife for almost 2 years. It continues to perform very well although it has lost its sharpness. Because of its impressive performance, I've given away my other knives and use the Global almost exclusively. Because the knife was expensive, I wanted to sharpen it properly and did a lot of research before buying the Minosharp sharpening guides. Based on experience, sharpening with a stone is still superior to fancy and costly ready-made sharpeners like the Minosharp plus. I can buy a new Global for the price of that sharpener. Although I know how to use a stone and had success with sharpening smaller knives, my hands are too small to maintain the right angle for the 10-inch Global. I used the Minosharp guides soon after receiving them in the mail and they worked like a charm! Great value for less than 15 bucks. My Global is now as sharp as the day I took it out of the box. Other reviewers pointed out that the guides can scratch the knife. I avoided scratches by covering my knife with 2 layers of transparent 3M shipping tape that was wide enough to cover the path of the sharpening guide (one layer could have done it but I wanted to be sure). I had no problem sliding a guide down the covered back of the knife. For those new to sharpening with a stone, I highly recommend that you watch Mino Tshuchida's knife sharpening tutorial on youtube. He works for Global and his video is the official tutorial from the company. The video can be a bit difficult to understand because of Mr Tshuchida's thick accent but after you watch it a few times you will learn a lot of tips. Happy slicing!

I purchased this item with a $350.00+ knife. The guide rail leaves scuff marks on the top part of the knife, but it creates a perfect edge that I would have had problems making. I use my knife 10 hours a day cause I am a sushi chef so it is important to me to keep my knife sharp. I don't know why people are giving this item a bad review. Personally I don't think they know how hard it is to sharpen a knife with a whet stone. Trying to keep one angle on a double edge knife is extremely hard and could also damage a knife if sharpened from multiple angles. Anyways who cares if your knives get scratches on it. It's ment to chop and slice.

Sure, they keep the knife at the right angle, but they only work well on the straight part of the blade. Where the curve is and where the blade gets more narrow the guide makes the angle steeper, which isn't good for the edge. You're better off just practicing and getting good at sharpening without the guides.

Today I bought one with plastic insert and I can confirm it scratched my knife at the second and further insertion attempts. I could almost hear the sound :).

No matter how long I have washed it under running water.

When I worked as a cook for an organic grocery store, we used these mats to keep our heavy-duty cutting boards from slipping on the stainless steel work surfaces. They were very durable and were easy to wipe down at the end of the day. They also give a little bit of cushioning to the board surface, which is nice when you are spending a lot of time chopping vegetables. If you have been using paper or cloth towels to stabilize your cutting board, you know that it's not very stable or very sanitary. These mats are a good investment, as they'll last forever and keep your work surface safe and sanitary.

I have been grinding deer meat with the sinew in it for the last 10 years or so. I had been using a #22 grinder. The price was cheap enough on this one, especially for coming with not only one pulley but TWO pulleys. It goes thru the meat better than my #22. I have it hooked to a 1.5HP electric motor, and it does just fine. I have 3 complaints, and 1 or 2 of them is/are operator error on my part, but it needs to be addressed: First, when operating with an electric motor, some of the paint/metal shaves off the drive shaft in the back of the unit. It collected mostly in the back of the unit and did not contaminate much of the meat, but what little was contaminated, I just threw that away. Second, the cutter in the front of the unit will load up with sinew from the deer meat. I say this is operator error, because I don't think any chopper is ever going to completely chop up that tough sinew. I just stopped the grinder every time the meat started slowing down coming out of the barrel and cleaned the cutter out and started over. The blades on the cutter do need to be touched up when grinding deer meat. Last, because this unit has bearings with it, the bearings need to be cleaned out after use. MAKE SURE TO COMPLETELY DRY OR THEY WILL RUST. I washed my bearings and put them in the silverware part of my dish rack. I didn't get all the water out, and they rusted. I put them in my tumbler with walnut media and shined them back up. I'm going to put cooking spray or cooking oil or something similar on them next time so they don't rust. As for the grinding itself, I imagine with beef or some other meats, you won't have any trouble with the cutter clogging up, but that deer sinew or silver flesh/shine is tough stuff. I have been making homemade deer jerky, and this grinder is fantastic for this task.

We got this grinder to make our own dog food, containing chicken and carrots. I can't even do the grinding because it is so hard. My husband does it, but it takes hours and he is completely worn out before he's done. Lol, I guess on the bright side, he is building muscle without paying for gym membership. It does do the job, but we are definitely going to need to get a motor! As far as the timing on shipping, I was very impressed. It got here way before we expected.

I bought this grinder to make pet food, and chose it because of reviews that said it could be used to grind bone-in chicken. It does this job very well. I cranked it manually and while it stalled when first cracking the bone, the rest was relatively easy. The grinding plate is fine enough that I don't have to worry about pieces of bone that are too large for my cat. Cleaning the grinder takes some time, but I am particular about cleaning items that come in contact with raw meat. It was challenging to get the small, stringy bits off the worm (auger). After all the smaller parts were clean and towel-dried, I rubbed them with vegetable oil and stored them in a zip top bag filled with rice to keep them dry. (I live in a humid climate.) Since so many reviewers use this grinder with a motor, I was worried that it might not be possible to grind meat and bones by hand. The grinder makes this fairly easy because of the large diameter of the pulley. Happy with my purchase, and the cat likes the homemade food.

The quality is fine and all the knives are held firmly in place until needed. Even the large butcher knives are secure. Definitely much better than the old way of keeping them in a drawer and using a knife block. You can see quickly which kind of knife you need.

I bought this rack after seeing my daughter's. It holds the knives well, was easy to mount and looks good. It is close to my kitchen sink so I can wash my knives and immediately hang them. After we had the kitchen partially renovated we wanted a knife rack to get the big block off the counter. We purchased this rack and are very pleased with it. It goes very well with the stainless steel appliances. Just one thing, lay all the knives out on the counter and then allow some additional space. I did not allow for additional space and could have used two more inches of rack.

Price probably reflects the season you purchase in. but anyway...I bought my 1st watermelon (this year) a week ago and this knife sliced right through the melon with no problems. I recommend this knife for any type of melon or pineapple.

This is the only watermelon knife I have used. It sees to never ware out so I am not lured to other versions. I was surprised that there is a need for this critter; it found me in the store. It is so much easier than using steak knives. I also have longer knives but they are not as easy to use as this critter. I also appreciate the sheath especially with inquisitive cats.

Oneida Stafford Mirror 65-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 12We received this flatware about a month ago. Extremely sturdy and heavy; in fact we worried if we left the silverware drawer open for long it might put undo stress on the drawer. They seem to do fine in the dishwasher; have not noticed any scratches or problems. We love them!

We recently purchased the flatware and so far, I really love the look and durability of them. These utensils won't bend on you. The only negative is that the knives don't fit well into the silverware separated basket in the dishwasher, if you could call that a negative. The size difference between the regular and salad forks is very small, but I never did understand why you needed two different size forks to begin with.

We are completely pleased with our new Oneida flatware. The clean lines, curves and mirror finish match our tastes. The flatware is solid in the hand. If we were to ask for anything different it would be not a change, but additions to the line. Matching serving pieces and long-handled tea spoons in the Stafford Mirror pattern would be a good thing.

I love the weight of this flatware set! It is not so heavy that it feels awkward to use, but it definitely does not feel like it will bend easily like my previous sets. I bought two "20-piece, service for 4" sets and one 5-piece serving set. I absolutely love the design but all of the pieces are slowly starting to rust after only using them for 2 months! I am very disappointed. This is suposedly made form stainless steel so it shouldn't rust. If it were only a couple pieces that rusted I'd think it was a defect but for almost ALL of them too, I'm questioning the material it's made of or if it's really low quality stainless steel.
