Kai ABS0813 Pure Komachi2 Knife Set, 8-Piece

Kai ABS0813 Pure Komachi2 Knife Set, 8-PieceThis is an excellent knife set. They're really beautiful, something that actually made me wary of buying them at first. After reading reviews on Amazon and a few other sites, I decided to give them a try. I wasn't disappointed! The knives are incredibly sharp, and the weight of each knife feels good when I cut. Highly recommended, and can't beat the Amazon price.

Bought one a couple years prior and basically abused it, ran it in the dishwasher and used it for about every job in the kitchen and it is still sharp. Bought the set of 8 and now have 9 at a factory razor sharp edge.

Oneida Flatware Chef's Table 20 Piece Service for 4

Oneida Flatware Chef's Table 20 Piece Service for 4This flatware is balanced nicely and is very comfortable in your hands. Oneida has a great reputation and this style certainly lives up to that expectation!

Bought this to add to my existing. Couldn't find a label the existing and thought this was the closest I had seen to shape of spoons, forks and knives. It is heavy flatware, which I really like. So much of today's flatware is really thin and seems cheap. This is heavy and sturdy flatware that also doesn't stain in the dishwasher. The only thing not positive is the handles except for the knives are too skinny. Feels awkward.

Pourfect Original Spill-Proof 6, 8 and 12 Cup Mixing Bowl Set

Pourfect Original Spill-Proof 6, 8 and 12 Cup Mixing Bowl Set, Blue WillowI was looking for colorful mixing bowls. These are great.

I love the non skid rubber underside and the spout. Perfect for pancake batter!

For some reason I was expecting something with a silicon type feel. But these are a hard plastic. I usually don't trust anything that has a "as seen on tv" sign affixed to it. But this exceeded my expectations. Would definitely buy again if something happened to these guys.

Would be nice as a housewarming present, too.

I purchased them for mixing funnel cake mix in my concession stand. Now I use them everyday in my kitchen.

Presto Stainless Steel 1-Liter Deep Fryer W/Basket Adjustable Thermostat With Indicator LightNot worth the money... I threw mine away in less a year! It worked well from the beginning, then the interior of the fryer started discoloring after a while, and it was hard to clean. The temperature read out is much lower then the dial indicator. I had to use the digital thermometer whenever I used the fryer. I got so sick of it, then just threw it away and got the traditional Logic cast iron skillet. It works much better except the splashing part.

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate ChipperI buy the big blocks (5 kg) of Callebaut dark chocolate for baking. Until buying this great little tool, I used a 10" chef's knife to divide the block and chop the chocolate as necessary. For the unskilled or inexperienced, this can be dangerous and a little scary, and while it gets the job done, it feels clumsy and is none too great for the knife, either. Combined with a rubber mallet or a plastic-faced hammer, this is the right tool for this particular job. Great price for it, too.

NOTE: When using on the thick blocks, the mallet is not optional; the chipper doesn't work without it.

I love to bake and make candy with bulk chocolate, but the one aspect of the process that I dread is cutting up the large chunks of chocolate. It is difficult to chop through the hard chocolate with a chefs knife. I find the job unpredictable and somewhat dangerous. This sturdy tool has resolved the issue.

I am a home cook, not a professional and I rarely have chunks of chocolate that weigh more than a couple of pounds. This tool permits chipping of the chocolate for melting in a manageable manner. I consider this method far safer than using the chef's knife. The chocolate flies around less, and to help capture the bits that leave the cutting board, I put a large piece of wax paper, or parchment paper under the cutting board.

The tool does not produce perfectly consistently sized pieces, like those bags of pre-made chocolate chunks for cookies, but for breaking down bulk chocolate to prepare for melting, this tool does its job.

Buy Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Now

This is a well made product that makes life much easier for bakers. It is perfect for chopping bulk chocolate and minimizes the time it would take if you were chopping chocolate with a knife. It is very sturdy and well-built.

Read Best Reviews of Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Here

Let me start with a brief explanation of my situation with this chipper: I am a home chef/confectioner that makes candy and chocolates on a fairly regular basis, and I needed something better than either store-bought chocolate chips (no cocoa butter to speak of) or $15/6 oz locally bought quality bars (only one place near me carries anything like Valrhona, Callebaut, etc and they are pricey). So I purchased a bulk bar online.

This thing is the only feasible way I've thought up for dealing with the mass of bulk chocolate I purchased. It does take significantly more work to make fine chunks, but it is doable. Moreover, I don't think there is any way I could have dealt with the 12lb bar I had.

Here's my current 'chunking' flow.

-Place bar in a large rubbermaid container on a solid surface. You generate a lot of 'dust' when you do this, and it's a shame to waste good chocolate. Also it's a real pain to clean up otherwise.

-Take a hammer, place chipper near the edge, start knocking off big chunks. I usually end up with fragments that span the whole length of the chunk (~4-6 inches) by 1-2", by .5-1".

-Break these up into roughly 1"x.5"x.5" chunks. That's about as small as I can get with this thing (which for a few minutes of labor and a starting piece 2"x6"x12" isn't bad!)

-Pour the resulting chunks and dust into a HEAVY duty ziplock. double bag it.

-Place something thick and soft (piece of leather, silicon potholder, etc) over the bag, and smash it a bit.

Now, I wouldn't really recommend this to make chunks for cookies, etc. The resultant bits are so variable that it'd be hard to get anything like consistency. If you want that buy grocery store bars and hammer them because that isn't what this thing is for. This is for taking large, heavy bars of bulk chocolate and breaking it down into manageable pieces you can melt easily. And not only does it do that very well, but I can't imagine doing it without this (or something nearly identical).

Though the metalwork will never appear in a museum of modern art, this chipper is a solid, sturdy tool that works perfectly. I've been looking for a chipper for some time, and for the price, this tool is a GREAT deal. Recommended.

Dexter-Russell (2332) - 3 1/2" Paring Knife - Dexter-Russell Series

Dexter-Russell - 3 1/2' Paring Knife - Dexter-Russell SeriesI wanted to give this pairing knife one star, but I dont hate it, I just dont like the way it rusted after the first washing. I was surprised to say the least. I have problems with my hands and do not like the metal handles on anything, They get hot and I cant feel it so I usually burn my hands, so that is why I bought the wooden handle knife. I understand it was more or less cheap but the advertising was good. It is very sharp so I did give it two stars. But it does rust. I will not bother to return it for the shipping and going to the post office is not worth the trouble. I do not recommend it because of the rusting.

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Starter Set

Wusthof Culinar 2-Piece Starter SetThe first set of knives I ever purchased was a Henckels block about five years ago, for which I paid about a hundred dollars and thought I was really splurging. It was adequate for a while but now I find myself using the serrated edge bread knife for most cutting chores as all the other knives haven't held a decent edge.

Looking for a decent cook's knife last year, research indicated that lots of people liked the Wusthof brand, and the Culinar line in particular looked very good as well. I thought a hundred and forty dollars was an awful lot of money for two knives but they didn't disappoint in the least. They are tremendously sharp and hold their edge very well.

I have given this set to my mother in law, who has every knife she ever bought and tends to use them to open letters and remove door hinges and so on, so you can imagine their condition. She is now a convert and uses them all the time, and I am looking for a set of my own.

PullParrot Red Corkscrew w/ Contoured Steel Handle Inc Double Boot Lever,Serrated Knife Blade And T

PullParrot Red Corkscrew w/ Contoured Steel Handle Inc Double Boot Lever,Serrated Knife Blade And Teflon WormI've tried a lot of corkscrews over the years. All kinds, from the Ah-So, to the Screwpull, to the Rabbit etc. etc.

I was drawn to the 'automatic' extractors like the Screwpull and their Chinese knock-offs because they seemed quick and easy to use. And for a while they are, but with the new kinds of corks their teflon coating deteriorates and very soon they break.

Plus after the novelty wears off, you look like a nerd opening a bottle of wine.

I did have a number of 'manual' corkscrews that LOOK like the PullParrot, with a 2-stage kind of opening design. But in fact the 'first stage' doesn't really work right, and they essentially only have 'one stage'.

If you look closely at the design you will see the little gizmo halfway down from the 'beak' that is the first stage of the cork extraction. It's got a little spring that moves the gizmo in and out. This is what distinguishes the design from the look-a-likes, which have a single molded in 2-stage stop, that don't really work.

To use the corkscrew, start with a few turns into the cork. Then push out the little spring mounted gizmo, and pull the cork out a little bit. Then let the gizmo retract, re-seat the corkscrew with its main ledge on the top of the bottle and continue the extraction.

The next time you are in a restaurant, look closely and you will see that EVERY waiter in every restaurant uses a corkscrew with this design.

Once you start using this, you will NEVER go back to the big fancy corkscrews.

(I know this review may be confusing, but it's the best I can do.)

Alaska ULU Knife Cultured Moose Antler Handle w/DVD

Alaska ULU Knife Cultured Moose Antler Handle w/DVDThis Ulu is much more of a display piece than a cutting tool. It looks nice but as a usable knife there are two serious design flaws, 1) the steel used to make the blade is so soft that it cannot be sharpened at any angle without leaving a huge wire edge (the sharp edge curls over leaving a lip on the blade instead of a sharp edge), 2) the blade is only single ground (beveled ground on only one side, flat on the other) which means when you cut anything firm or thick the cut will veer to one side instead of cutting straight through. The single bevel is done to save cost and makes proper sharpening impossible. It is so poorly made (soft steel and cheap single bevel) as to be useless as a cutting tool. I am only giving it two stars as a display piece, but as a tool it would receive only one star (lowest rating).

Very nice.It was the perfect gift, exactly what my uncle wanted. He lived in alaska and really liked the handle.

Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter (Stainless Steel) - Perfect Gift for Trekkies - Live Long And Piz

Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter - Perfect Gift for Trekkies - Live Long And Pizza. If your pizza is as soft as a nebula or as hard as a horta, this cutter is for you (especially if you know what I am talking about!). This is a gift for the ultimate geek, or for oneself, if that ultimate geek happens to be you. Shaped in the traditional NCC-1701 style, the saucer section does double-duty here as the slicing edge no forward phasers or photo torpedos required. In terms of actual pizza cutting, this one fares about as well as any, no real improvement over my more traditional one, but nothing lacking, either. This is a great gift and a great conversation piece, and truly a gift for the Trekker or Trekkie who has everything (and it would be THE gift for anyone who knows the difference between the Trekker and Trekkie!).

Scotty, beam the pizza up now -the ship is ready; engage!

I bought this as a gift for my best friend. He absolutely loved it. He even put a picture of it on facebook, right next to his kid. Now, I'm not saying he loves it more than his kid...or am I? No, of course not, but he loves nevertheless. He uses it all the time, it's not just sitting on a shelf getting dusty. It's very durable and responds well to dishwasher use. For any Star Trek fans or for friends of Trekkies out there and you know who you are, you can't go wrong with this purchase. And no, I wasn't paid for my response; even though it may seem like I was. In fact, Amazon..give me some money.

I got this pizza cuter for my 39th birthday, and boy was I excited!!!!!! I made homemade pizza the next week to use on its maiden voyage. The cutter fits great into your hand, has a good weight and the blade is sharp as McCoy's wit. The problem starts on the second slice of pizza, when your hand is greasy and there is no guard to keep your hand from pushing into the very sharp blade. I was so exited to use the pizza cutter that I did not realize it had cut deep into my index finger. It was still very much fun and it's so sharp you don't feel the cut into your hand. I have a picture if your interested, but not for public display.

Overall, great looking pizza cutter, really sharp, cuts easily (even into your hand), and will look great on display.

The pizza cutter would get 5 stars, but it lost one star when I cut my finger. Maybe user error, but it was way too easy for my hand to slide into the blade.

Want Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter (Stainless Steel) - Perfect Gift for Trekkies - Live Long And Piz Discount?

Sure, other pizza cutters are efficient, and fit better in the hand, but this is a fun kitchen tool to have, so it's worth having. Also comes in a foam-padded box you can keep to store it in.

Only issue with this tool is that the gap between the wheel and the "bridge" portion is narrow and food gets in there, requiring some attention to clean...Dry immediately after washing to prevent rust spots in the chrome.

J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 2-Piece Chef's Set with Bonus Towels

J.A. Henckels Twin Four Star II 2-Piece Chef's Set with Bonus TowelsI love the Henckels Four Star line, having started using them well over 15 years ago. I bought this set on Warehouse Deals and have been using it regularly. It is very sharp, so please handle with care, and get it professional sharpened on a regular basis!

It has been said that a chef only needs three knives: the Chef's, the Paring, and the Serrated Bread. I've always felt this list a little short as there are some tasks that a paring knife can't easily manage, where a utility should be more useful. However, the 4-inch length of this parer gives one just enough for tasks like boning and it effectively becomes an able paring and utility knife in one. So, with this set, all one really needs is a bread knife, making it a very good starter set--not at all like those trying to sneak in something unneeded. The towels are both an attractive and useful bonus, especially since quality cutlery ought be washed and dried by hand.

The knives themselves are everything you'd expect from the German manufacturer. Seamlessly finished and well-weighted. The Chef knife has good heft to it and the Paring is not too light. Edge retention is very good on this steel; while not quite so good as that of high-end Japanese cutlery, they are not nearly so fragile and certainly not so expensive.

All and all, I am very pleased with this set. Quality, performance, usefulness, and price all come well-balanced. I'd recommend it either for personal use or as a gift. Neither you nor the recipient should be disappointed.

Note: The Henckels logo embroidered on the towels is not accurately represented in the photo. It is not nearly so ridiculously large, perhaps about one-quarter the size shown. The image was clearly added to the photograph later with a graphics-editing program.

Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating

Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome CoatingCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program If I have learned anything from my grandmother who was a professional chef for over forty years of her life or from my own fifteen years of experience in a high end restaurant kitchen it is this... keep your knives sharp! And a must-have kitchen tool to keep those knives their sharpest is a high quality honing steel.

A good steel is essential for maintaining the sharpest edges on your knives. Unlike other knife sharpeners which remove steel from the blade, a honing steel straightens the edge of the knife by realigning it to its center. The diamond sharpening steel is the best there is and also the most expensive but so worth the investment.

A diamond steel such as this Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating will not only hone your blades but will sharpen them as well. The steel is coated with a layer of diamond dust which makes it harder for more effective sharpening. The wide oval surface of the Fischer Bargoin will quickly bring new life to dull blades and sharp knives are much safer to use than dull knives.

All of my knives are highest quality Wusthofs and have been serving me well since the 1970s. Of course that means taking excellent care of them and I always have. I use my steel once daily before using each knife. Over the years I have had to replace my steels periodically but I have always chosen the more expensive diamond steels because they last much longer and do a superior job.

This Fischer Bargoin is the first steel I have used which is not a Wusthof. I was excited when given the opportunity by Amazon Vine to try the French made Fischer Bargoin for review as it just so happens that it was time for me to replace my Wusthof steel.

The 11 inch Fischer Bargoin steel is a good length for me. I tend to use my 10 inch chef's knife the most so the 11 inch steel seems perfect. The Fischer Bargoin is flat and oval instead of round like my Wusthof and it felt a bit awkward at first, but after sharpening all of my chef's knives once with it, I do like its wide oval surface. The handle is square and offers good control. It is also lighter to handle than my Wusthof and since I have carpal tunnel syndrome the lighter weight is noticeable and quite nice.

From an aesthetic point of view the Fischer Bargoin is rather generic looking with its gray plastic handle. I will not be hanging it for storage (a loop is provided for hanging) so that doesn't really matter to me. I will be keeping it in my knife drawer where it will not be seen. What does matter is how well it sharpens and the easy to use Fischer Bargoin steel will place an incredibly sharp edge on your knives and reward you with superior knife performance, whether you are a professional chef or a simple home cook like me.

But please remember...a sharp knife is a safe knife! After sharpening, expect your knife to be very sharp...and respect it.

After sharpening every knife in my knife drawer with my new Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating I am pleased to say that now my knives are all uncommonly sharp with better than professional edges. I do not hesitate to give the Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating my enthusiastic recommendation.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The best ingredients, recipes, and technique won't matter a bit if you don't have sharp knives. Dull blades not only force you to work harder but can also make finished dishes unattractive. Thick, irregular slices of meat and hacked up vegetables will greatly diminish the tableside appeal of a meal you've spent time planning, preparing, and presenting.

Nobody wants to sharpen their knives before each and every use though; in addition to being time consuming, sharpening grinds down knife blades. So, most experienced cooks use a steel to hone the edge on their knives between sharpenings.

Fischer-Castet/Fischer-Bargoin has designed an excellent steel. The 11-inch Fusil Diamant has three features that set it apart from the sort of steels that are included in kitchen knife sets or sold at hardware stores:

*The diamond coating creates less drag on blades than uncoated steels, making it easier to swipe knives along the steel.

*An 11-inch length helps to hone knives with a minimum of strokes.

*The plastic handle is more hygienic and easier to keep clean than wood.

Bottom line: a fine product and well worth the premium over typical home-kitchen steels.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I own a few knife sets, including a set of Shuns and Wusthofs. I will begin by saying that I only tried this sharpening steel on my Wusthof's because it does not just straighten knives but also has some sharpening properties. My Shuns are very sharp and a few seconds to straighten the edge is all they need to perform flawlessly. Additionally, I've had my Wusthofs longer and they were in 'worse' shape, so I decided to experiment on them with this Fischer Bargoin sharpening steel. The length is perfect, the steel is easy to use and you'll definitely see results. Where before a knife's edge might have seemed dull, after a few passes on this steel, you'll see a new shine and sharpness appear. You can readily see and feel the results as soon as you start using your knives. But this product is more so recommended for knives that need both a little sharpening and straightening, rather than new pieces that are performing well on a day to day basis but might need to be straightened out every now and then.

Read Best Reviews of Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating Here

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have nothing but good things to say about this Fischer Bargoin sharpening steel. Since receiving it I've used to sharpen all of my chef's knives, and with superb results. While I cook regularly, I hadn't realized how dull my knives had gotten until after I sharpened them with this steel. It sounds odd to say, but it really has made my cooking experiences so much more enjoyable. Naturally, it also cuts down on time in the kitchen when you can slice and dice so smoothly.

Design-wise, the aesthetic isn't breathtaking, but it gets the job done. The plastic handle might look a bit cheap, but the steel feels durable and it's comfortable to hold. As far as pricing goes, I think it's a great bargain. You could greatly extend the shelf life of any set of knives with a steel like this.

Highly recommended!

Want Fischer Bargoin 11-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel, with Chrome Coating Discount?

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My primary occupation revolves around a archaeological firm that, occasionally, sends me out in the field to conduct class III cultural resource inventory surveys (which means we walk it) and, as you can imagine, I have to hack my way through a lot of underbrush and cut through thick foliage. On my person at all times in the field is my Gerber Gator machete, my USMC kabar, and a small pocket-sized Gerber utility knife. I use these tools regularly in the field and they can get pretty dull really quick.

I've tried using small travel-sized diamond cutters to quickly sharpen my tools in the field but they always come up short for one reason or another. My kitchen cutlery (Kitchenaid) never really needed much in terms of sharpening so I never really thought to examine kitchen sharpeners for an outdoor problem.

When I first obtained the Fischer sharpener I immediately set to sharpen my Gerber Gator (say that ten times fast) and was pretty impressed within twenty minutes of TLC. My machete doesn't feel like a bludgeon tool anymore but an actual field tool and my kabar is now very dangerous to handle again! They're not super sharp but I'm going out to survey, not on patrol.

There really isn't much more to say about the Fischer other than it is easy to handle and seems to last a while since I gave all my tools a serious upgrade. All in all, a well worthy purchase for anyone who needs to keep their cutlery, no matter what the task, sharp.

Fortessa Apollo 18/10 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 1, 5-Piece

Fortessa Apollo 18/10 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 1, 5-PieceThis is a beautiful set of 18/10 stainless steel flatware. Being 18/10 was a big part of my decision in determining which set to purchase, as I did not want to waste money on something that would rust. These are also very solid/durable pieces. I found a great deal for a set of 8 at another online retailer.

The teaspoon in this set is 5 1/4" long, the table spoon is 7 1/4", the knife is 9 1/4", the dinner fork is 8", and the salad fork is 7 1/8" long. The salad forks are the size of my previous set of dinner forks, and they are great as salad or lunch forks. The dinner forks are substantial European sized forks. The teaspoons are very small; perhaps the smallest teaspoons in a set I've ever seen. The teaspoons are still useful as coffee/espresso spoons and dessert spoons, but I don't like them for eating cereal. So some of my flatware pairing habits are changing to meet the attributes of this new set.

The hammered appearance is lovely, and I like the mirror finish. I did notice a couple of spots that did not get polished on the back side where the fork handle meets the base. The knives have shallower indentations for the hammered appearance. It isn't noticeable from afar, but you can tell that the hammer marks are not as deep.

Overall, this is a beautiful set of flatware at a reasonable price. The quality is very good. I could have spent a fortune on some hammered Vera Wang by Wedgewood, but I'd be afraid to use it. I am looking for some coordinating serving pieces. Since Foressa does not make coordinating pieces, I may try Ginkgo.

The teaspoon is more like a demitasse size, the salad fork is a reg fork size, the reg fork is very large, the knife is larger than normal....I am returning this item....I would like to add that the quality is very nice and a very nice weight but the sizes are a problem....it would be impossible to use the "teaspoon" for soup or cereral or oatmeal or fruit ....just way toooooo small and the tablespoon way too big.
