Magnetic Knife Rack (Walnut Wood)

Magnetic Knife RackAfter hating every wall mounted knife magnet I'd seen I decided to spend a little more for something that looked nicer. It was between this one and a bamboo one that was more expensive. (they were the only two with hidden magnets) This one was smaller and cheaper in price but I decided to give it a try.

It is excellent quality. I suspect that these are hand made as the corners and edges seem hand sanded. The finish is great; no imperfections, splintering, or other cheap manufacturing issues. And the other review is correct, I see no evidence of how the magnets could have been placed in the rack. There are no visible seams, glue, screws, or filled holes of any kind.

It has the look of something hand made you might purchase from an artisan at a local specialty shop. Seriously, it is that nice. The picture makes the rack look longer than it is relative to the knife shown, but the 10 inch size fit my needs. I am extremely happy with this purchase and was very pleasantly surprised to get something that was so well crafted from Amazon.

amazing, you must see it! I'm trying to invent other uses for this so I have a reason to buy another one.

It took some time to get this in the mail, but once I opened it I was amazed, very nice finish, installation was a breeze. I am still amazed at the craftsmanship in this item....I can't for the life of me see how they got the magnet in the wood! There are no traces of inserting the magnet!!! Excellent

I have a couple of these racks and I love them. They're simple and durable. I also like that there's no danger of damaging my knives with exposed metal. This is the only rack I've found without exposed magnets. They're super easy to hang and match well in both my kitchen and my wife's parent's kitchen (I have the Walnut for mine and gave them a lighter wood rack).

Victorinox Swiss Classic 2 1/2" Shaping Knife, Red

Victorinox Swiss Classic 2 1/2' Shaping Knife, RedThis knife arrived with a good edge on it, and the handle fits my hand for doing small things like stemming strawberries, quartering apples and other fruits. The blade is thin, as a birdbeak should be--and so a person should be respectful of what the knife can do and cannot do in order to avoid overstressing the blade and putting a ripple in the cutting edge. Good knife, bottom line.

I have found this to be an excellent knife and easy to hang on to with the handle shaped like it is. Price is right on it as well.

Cutlery and More 17-slot Universal Knife Block

Cutlery and More 17-slot Universal Knife BlockJust received this bamboo block and couldn't be happier. The coloring is perfect in my kitchen filled with oak cabinets. It is much richer looking than my old, pale butcher block style, and I love the size as well. I had wanted a "medium" holder so that I could put a convenient amount of knives on the counter without taking up too much space and this is an ideal size.

It holds ten knives on the top, plus my kitchen shears, and will hold my steak knives in the front, too. It's a solid, heavy weight (so no toppeling) and has a very professional looking semi-gloss finish and style. Definitely recommended, especially considering the value for such a nice piece.

My old knife block (the one that came with the Hampton Forge knives) was vertical. It wouldn't fit under my kitchen cabinets -this does. And, it has a few extra slots for some of the other knives I had been keeping in a drawer. None of the slots accomodate my kitchen shears though. Nevertheless, it is the solution to the problem I had.

Cherry color was a brighter red than I had hoped, but is only stained with no lacquer finish, so I threw an extra coat of a dark cherry stain on it & it looks gorgeous now. My Wusthoff knives fit great & it is nearly identical to my old wusthoff block, so I'm very happy with it.

GRAPES Flatware 20pcs. Beautiful Grape Bundles *NEW!*

GRAPES Flatware 20pcs. Beautiful Grape Bundles *NEW!*I loved the way they looked at first, and they go great with my kitchen which is all decorated with grapes. After the first use, they just started to look cheap and flimsy. Even after washing them, they still look dull and dirty.

I read some negative reviews about this product prior to purchasing it. The one that stuck with me was that after putting the silverware in the dishwasher, they still seemed dirty and old looking. I have had this experience as well but I belive it is my dishwasher (it is very old), and the detergent I am using. I rub them with a kitchen towel prior to putting them away and they are fine. Also, if I buy a cheap dishwashing liquid I notice I have water marks and spots not only on the silverware but everything else as well. In any case, my kitchen has a "wine" theme and these are a perfect addition. Since I have not found anything that comes close, I can deal with using a towel on them before I put them in the drawer. This would not stop me from buying them.

Ikea Grundtal 16" Magnetic Knife Rack Stainless Steel Kitchen Storage Tool Holder Strips Bars

Ikea Grundtal 16' Magnetic Knife Rack Stainless Steel Kitchen Storage Tool Holder Strips BarsI love the magnetic knife bar...it is of excellent quality and looks amazing in my kitchen but....I do believe the photo accompanying this ad, the use of the word "bars" and the plus signs in between the three pics was a little deceiving as the only thing you get here is one 16" silver magnetic bar. I thought that I would be getting the wood looking bar up top, the silver magnetic knife bar and the magnetic strip bar with hooks you see holding the pot holders. Maybe its me being over picky but shouldn't the pic of the item being sold be JUST of the item being sold and not with all the plus signs and the use of the word "bars"? Kinda makes me feel like I did not get the deal I thought I was getting!

Ginsu Chikara Series 2 Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Carving Set with 8-InchCarving Knife an

Ginsu Chikara Series 2 Piece Japanese 420J2 Stainless Steel Carving Set with 8-InchCarving Knife and Fork; Bamboo Storage Case IncludedGot this knife as a present for my parents as their carving set is a million years old and dull. Didn't have much to spend but the price made me a little wary anyway as I didn't want a cheap knife. Didn't have anything to worry about as it turns out. Overall, I am very pleased with the knife and fork. The knife was incredibly sharp, had a good weight, and a thick blade so it did not bend at all. It went through the turkey like it was cutting butter. Can't speak to the longevity obviously, but this was really nice for the price.

The case is better than other reviews have indicated. The top easily slid off and the case is made of heavier wood than I had anticipated. The entire package is more formidable than I would have thought given the price so that was good. The only drawback of the case is the glass in the top is very flimsy, probably would crack or break very easily if you are not careful, but hey, who really cares that much. At the end of the day you could toss the top and still have a nice box in which to hold the knife.

The knife will probably arrive a little dusty. Mine seemed to have some carbon powder, I'm guessing it was sharpened and immediately packaged, so I made sure to wash it before I gifted it.

UPDATE

Had a chance to use this knife on a few occasions now and it is ridiculously sharp. Went through a ham like butter and carved a turkey in no time. There are better knives at higher prices but this is definitely a good one at this price.

I've had this set for several months now and it stands up very well. The knife holds an extremely sharp edge with minimal honing after every use. It's well balanced and slices through meats and birds with ease. Yes the box is relatively cheap but that is secondary for me. It holds the set in a drawer and isn't a display piece. Keeps the set free from knicks and scratches and looks fine. Mine was easy to open and close unlike the previous reviewer.

I bought this knife for thanksgiving this pasr November, and it worked great. The blade lenght was fine, ans the fork was plenty long. I would say if you are looking for an all around entry-point carving set, this will fit the bill.

FYIAs I have used this all of one time, I cant speak to the longevity of this set.

The knife set is just okay. The china stamp is on the blade and the filings are visible, typical Chinese workmanship. Cheap quality but will do the trick for my needs to take camping and just not to care what will happend with it. My other meat fork is made in Germany costs more and much better quality.

The wooden box, bamboo, came in cracked on the bottom and is a total throw away. I really do not need the box but could use it for other purposes.

Wil contact the seller about the cracked box.

Will not recommend this item but if if you need something that does the trick it will work. Next time I will spend more money for a better set. I think the better set worth the money.

Fiesta Shamrock 5-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1

Fiesta Shamrock 5-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1A great compliment to Fiestaware! Good quality for the money; knives are not sharp enough to cut easily and the handles will take a little more room in the dishwasher and/or silverware rack. However, they are well-made and a fun addition to the table setting!

I love Fiestaware, so I thought I would love this flatware. I bought 12 sets. Within 1 week one of my knives bottoms fell off. Super glued it back together. Within the next few months, a total of 27 pieces have broken or are totally bent. Usually what happens if the little circular clip where the metal meets the plastic falls off, then there is nothing left to keep the metal part from bending. I have talked to someone, they are going to replace these pieces for me, but it is just going to keep happening. I do have kids, who are probably rough with these but they are flatware they should be able to last longer than a year. I totally regret buying these, which I had invested in something different.

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Lexington Mirror 45-Piece Flatware Set

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Lexington Mirror 45-Piece Flatware SetI was ready to order these, since we have lost about 6 of our teaspoons and dinner forks. Replacement.com does not have those items. However, I then read reviews of the set with extra serving pieces, and people said they were "cheesy." When I noticed the stainless was only 18/1 (1 being the percent of nickel) I realized that they would look a lot different from mine, which are heavy, and excellent quality. If this is what you can afford, buy them, but they will not feel heavy in your hand and the big difference is the amount of nickel. Luckily, mine were from Costco, and actually were priced very low for the quality.

I wish that I could find a set of the version of this pattern with the 18/10 quality! Hampton is a good brand.

You get what you pay for I guess. Obviously, will not hold up over time. I regret making this purchase.

Gunter Wilhelm Executive Chef Series Model 201 11 Piece Knife Block Set

Gunter Wilhelm Executive Chef Series Model 201 11 Piece Knife Block SetWe bought these knives from a local Warehouse club store when Gunter Wilhelm (GW) had a booth set up. They caught my eye because they looked identical to my wife's x-favorite knife made by Hammer Stahl (HS). It turns out that GW were the original inventor of these knives and HS copied them. When you compare the 2, the GW knives are bigger, heavier, heftier, more solid and made with better materials. GW knives are incredibly made, very sharp and high quality. They allowed me to trade the old HS knife with a GW knife. These are the best high quality knives you can get for the $. I have to say GW is ' a cut above the rest'. Sorry..

My only complaint is that they have to be hand washed, but most high end knives have the same requirement.

This set of knives is heafty, high carbon stainless steel, and carefully constructed. They have a rich feel in your hand and hold an edge for a reasonably long time. The company backs up their product. We purchased the set at Amazon after purchasing an individual knife at Costco. Amazon shipped quickly with good packaging. My wife does a lot of cooking and uses these knives constantly and she is very happy with them. We've had them about two months so this review is over a limited time period. We hand wash the knives and they seem to be holding up very well.

These are truly exceptional knives. I have owned a few sets of kitchen knives, these are by far the best. I was able to pick up an 11 piece set at Costco for $220, which was a great deal. One of the knives had a scratch on it, I simply called the main office, without any hassle, they simply sent me a new one. They are an excellent company and they make a beautiful, sharp, durable knife. Highly recommended.

What an amazing Knife set the Gunter Wilhelm (GW) Model 201 is. I also received a bonus instructional DVD on GW "Cookware & Knife Skills" when I purchased this at a local warehouse store. The GW Knives feel so hefty and natural, their sharpness is as good as it gets, and they stay that way. I have used Henckels for years, but keeping them sharp has always been problematic. The GW triple full tang construction provides complete confidence while holding the knife, and its Forged construction - unlike many major brands that are Stamped -provides a large metal bolster where the blade joins the handle. Each knife feels rigid, balanced, and virtually an extension of my hand.

I was so enthusiastic about and impressed with this set that I went back and purchased some additional GW items:

* 10" Boning/Filet Knife

* 5" Mini-Santoku Knife

* 10" Poultry Shears

* 12" Diamond Steel Sharpener

I am now set for doing virtually any knife task that a professional chef would do. The maple wooden block is spacious enough that I -with minimal woodworking skills -was able to drill a rounded hole and widen another slot to accommodate the shears and mini santoku, respectively. The other knives could be doubled up temporarily in a couple of the wide slots that other knives occupy; position them carefully with the top spines facing away from each other. As with any fine piece of equipment, you must handle the knives reasonably. They are not for banging or throwing around. It is best to hand wash and dry right after using.

The knives are a work of art. Handle them carefully and safely. They'll last as long as you are around! Their lifetime warranty is unbelievable -free replacement even if you messed up. Who else stands behind their product this way? If you want the best, GW is the brand to get.

Update 11/29/2012

I still love this knife set! At my suggestion and many other customers, GW went back and redesigned the wooden block from 11 to 14 slots. The replacement block now holds all my prior additions. There is still room to have one or two more knives, if the block were remodified. What would I first add? Probably the 6" boning knife.

If GW is doing a road show at your local Costco, it is hard to beat that costwise.

Picked the 7" Santoku at Costco during one of the Gunter Wilhelm show weekends and it has turned out to be the knife I use most at home, I like the weight and balance and it looks like a piece of art. Definitely recommend!!!

Edlund Commercial Can Opener #1 With Plated Base

Edlund Commercial Can Opener #1 With Plated Base[Update: after using it more than two years, it's still going strong. We've not had to sharpen or replace the blade. All I've done to maintain it is add a little oil a couple of times a year to keep it turning easy. Wipe it down after you use it (especially if can contents slosh out), and it will stay in great shape for years.]

Well, if you're reading this review after browsing to the Edlund #1 Commercial Can Opener (with base), then I'll assume you fall into one of three categories: you're involved in food service somewhere (e.g., restaurant, soup kitchen), you have a large family that uses a lot of institutional sized (10#) cans, or you are wondering if something like this might work for someone with arthritis. I find myself in the latter two categories.

This opener brought to an end our practice of buying and wearing out traditional, hand-held can openers. We're a big family and open a lot of institutional sized cans. I have no complaints. This opener can handle them all--even little tuna cans. Since we're not a restaurant, our biggest issue was deciding where to mount the base plate. We opted for a corner of one of our countertops in the area with the least foot traffic. Mounting the base plate required drilling holes through the countertop, then installing machine screws and nuts (provided). If we want the extra counter space (e.g., when hosting), the opener can be removed from the bracked and stored in a drawer or cabinet.

Turning the crank sure beats trying to turn those little handles on the hand-held openers we've used all these years. My wife has recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her fingers (sadly so, because she is so young), so this is a real hand-saver for her.

All around a pretty good opener. I found you must drop the blade down pretty hard for it to work properly but that is not really any big deal. It would not turn the can unless the blade is seated all the way down into a can. I would recommend this because I had several cheaper openers before this one and they were all a waste of money. This one seems well made and looks like it should last. I would buy it again, if I needed a second opener.

since I run a catering company on the side I open many cans and have never found a can opener that is this easy to use and durable. Opening 30 cans used to be a hassel not with this can opener. It is built to last have had it for about 10 months opened somewhere north of 300 cans and still works as good as when I first bought it. I relize it is more money than most but you will not be unhappy with it when you got it.

Global G-2338 - 3 Piece Starter Knife Set with Chef's, Utility and Paring Knife

Global G-2338 - 3 Piece Starter Knife Set with Chef's, Utility and Paring KnifeI wanted my knives to have the following characteristics: 1. sharp 2. Lightweight 3. Thin blade. 4. The feel it will last forever.

They are most definately sharp. Very light weight. Thinner blade compared to some German knives. I also got the feeling they would last forever due to the handle being metal too. Other knives you may have to worry about the rivets or deteriorating wood handles.

Handles: I bought these online based on reviews and the pictures here on Amazon. In the pictures I thought the black dots may have been some kind of rubber for grip. I wasn't too keen of the thought of potentially having little pieces of rubber glued to the knife. I ordered this set anyway and was pleasantly surprised that the dots are just colored dimples like a golf ball.

Utility knife grip: Looking at the picture of the utility knife I was worried about the grip because the handle looks a little different. I immediately washed this knife upon receiving it and used it to chop up some veggies. I found it very comfortable to use. No concerns with the grip at all.

My set was out of the box sharp and I was chopping things up effortlessly. There really is a "wow" factor if you've only experienced cheap knives from your local *mart stores.

I purchased these knives in September 2009. I carefully selected these knives after reading several reviews and because the steel used has a high Cr content making it one of the better performing materials for a kitchen knife. We had a quality problem with one knife, that was resolved quickly by the US distributor (see below for more information), but I would not let this deter anyone from purchasing what I think is good value for money for anyone who spends a lot of time in their kitchen.

The quality problem: After a few weeks I noticed the paring knife showed black spots on the blade surface (corrosion of the stainless steel). I was taking good care of the knives (not putting them through the dishwasher etc.) but still this knife corroded faster than any stainless steel I had ever seen, and none of the other knives had this problem so I concluded this was a quality issue on the paring knife. I contacted Chefs Resource (the vendor) and they just pointed me to the US distributor's website (to be honest I was very disappointed with their response so I wouldn't recommend Chef's Resources over any other vendor). I then returned the knife to the US distributor with a warrantee claim form (). I am please to say that within a few weeks a replacement knife was mailed back to me. I believe this was a rare quality problem that I have not seen in any of the other knives and I was pleased the US distributor stood behind the product and did the right thing. I was happy that after investing so much in a high quality knife that when a problem did occur the US distributor honored their commitment to the customer Great job by Sointu USA.

I bought these knifes 4 years ago and till that day I am very satisfied with them. They are light, well balanced and easy to clean since they are made from one piece of metal. I wash them by hand, sharpen with Yoshikin 220/GB MinoSharp Water Sharpener and store on MIU France 15-Inch Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Holder. No issues and they look like new. Since i bought this set, we do not use any other/extra knifes in our house. I find chef's knife to be a little too big for me so I mostly use it only when I need bigger knife. My husband on the other hand prefers chef's over utility knife, so I guess that's a matter of preference or maybe hand size? I might also add that my husband is left handed and finds them very easy to handle too.

Highly recommended!

Read Best Reviews of Global G-2338 - 3 Piece Starter Knife Set with Chef's, Utility and Paring Knife Here

I bought this set a while back and was amazed at how sharp they were when I got them. The chef's knife is great and as useful as you'd expect. I don't find that I have much use personally for the pairing knife, but when I do use it, it's great. The utility knife it turns out is really a nice size for those jobs where a full chef's knife is a little too big. I find myself using that knife much more often than I thought I would because of it's convenient size.

While I really like the knives, I'm finding that maintaining them is going to be more expensive that I anticipated. After a few months of use and carving a few turkeys, I'm finding that the chef's knife doesn't seem to cut the way it once did. It's reasonable that this should happen after some use. Usually when this happens, I run the knife over a steel to condition the edge. I find that after some minor sharpening and honing, even a relatively cheap knife can be made very sharp again with minimal effort. Because of the edge and the steel used in the Globals though, they only recommend using a Global diamond steel. This steel costs more than the knives do. I've tried a normal steel which works fine on my other knives (though Global doesn't recommend it) and didn't get very good results. No damage to the knife, but no improvement in the edge either.

So, I'm going to end up spending a significant amount of money to keep these knives in best form. Much more than I would have with more conventional knives. I don't consider it a huge drawback since the knives are very good, but it's something to consider when making your purchase. It changes my opinion of the knives a bit though. While they are very very sharp and nice to use, they are expensive to maintain. The German knives are nearly as nice to use, less expensive to buy and less expensive to maintain. To my mind, that puts these knives into the category of useful show items. They're a little bit better than the Germans, but the large cost difference isn't really justified by the performance difference. Buy them if you want really good knives and want to show off a bit. If you want something that works really well but isn't as flashy, go with the Germans or even Victorinix which I also have and work nearly as well.

I just got this and have only used it one day. But the steel is definitely top notch so far, a little hard to clean I got the longer yanagiba, but a wet towel then paper towel does the trick. It floats through the fish I cut with no snags at all the fish barely moves. Normally my razor sharp santoku or deba will drag the fish with it.

The handle is not sealed I will probably polyurethane it for water resistance.

For 30 bucks this is a no brainer it's easily worth 70 to 80 and I'm a cheapskate

This does not have the bulk or the single bevel cutting edge of a "real" yanagi sushi knife. However, it is an excellent slicer and will give you the feel of a longer yanagiba if you haven't used one before. The thickness is probably close to a fugubiki. Either way, you can see if you dig a knife like this before taking the price plunge on the real deal.

Joseph Joseph Chop 2 Pot Plus Folding Chopping Board

Joseph Joseph Chop 2 Pot Plus Folding Chopping Board, GreenI've been using this for a few months now, and I must say, I'm not really impressed. First of all, it is smaller than I thought it was going to be. Secondly, it has remained fairly stiff, so I can't bend up the sides with just one hand, making it cumbersome and not really efficient. Also, when chopping things, the sides stay slightly raised up off the counter so you have to prop the handle up against something else in order to get it to lie flat for adequate chopping space. It also gets cuts in the plastic very easily and is significantly cut up now after about 4 months of regular use. I have another similarly sized chopping board that I got for free from a garage sale that does not have fold up sides. I think it originally was a cheap one from Target. I prefer that one. It doesn't get deep grooves and always lies flat without having to rig it. The fold up sides are just a gimmick, it seems. I don't recommend it. I purchased one for my sister-in-law as a Christmas gift. I haven't asked her what she thinks about it, though. If I ever remember to ask, I'll have to update my review with her thoughts, as well.

I love the design of this -it's just so clever. Though upon extensive usage, I've found that the plastic that they use easily becomes mangled from the knife blade -you don't even have to use much pressure for this to happen. I feel like they went with a very cheap material that hinders longevity as a cutting board surface.

I like the looks and the way the board folds in to pour vegetables into a pot, but the surface is impossible to keep clean looking. It has what look like scuff marks on the board due to knives and such. It's the first Joseph Joseph product that I have not been absolutely wowed over.

We were very disappointed with these cutting boards. First, the "funnel" is too wide to do a good job of funneling food from the cutting board to the pot. Second, the cutting board will never lie completely flat; it always bends a bit in a funnel shape. As a result, it is very difficult to cut anything on these cutting boards. Third, these cutting boards are not very big.

I have had these cutting boards for 6 months now, and I never use them because they are so inconvenient.

My wife and I both like this board. It's great for chopping and dumping the chopped items into whatever you need them in. Clean up is easy. Recommended.

Victorinox Oyster Knife 4-Inch Galveston Style Blade, Red SuperGrip Handle

Victorinox Oyster Knife 4-Inch Galveston Style Blade, Red SuperGrip HandleVictorinox Oyster Knife 4-Inch Galveston Style Blade, Red SuperGrip Handle

Works like an oyster knife is supposed to work. Handle has a good grip and the blade is stout. Seems sturdy, like it should last a lifetime. The thickness of the tip makes it a bit difficult on some shells to get started.

I'll admit, I'm not sure how to go about picking the right oyster knife but this one wasn't for me. i wish the end was a bit pointier.

While a bit pricey, this knife has a handle that makes it safe to use and a blade strong enough to go through a lot of oysters. In addition, the blade is long enough to open the oyster and to go into the shell and sever the adductor muscle so as to remove the oyster. It must have been an appealing product, as a number of them disappeared from our recent oyster roast. I would recommend this to serious oyster aficionados.

Wusthof Grand Prix II 2-3/4-Inch Peeling Knife

Wusthof Grand Prix II 2-3/4-Inch Peeling KnifeI cannot live without this knife. It is perfect for preparing fruits and vegetables. It is the most used knife in our knife block.

Makes me want to tourne again, lol! Not really, but it's a great little peeler. Very sharp and fits comfortably in my hand.

A bird's beak knife it the absolute best way to peel any vegetable or fruit. And this one is the best one I have used to date. It is uber-sharp, and keeps its sharpness. It is light and easy to grip. The beak shape allows you to slide over the vegetable without digging into the "meat". Removing eyes from potatoes? Easy peasy. Can I say any more great things about this? If you haven't used a bird's beak shaped peeling knife before you don't know what you are missing. If you have you should upgrade to this one. It is one of the most used knives in my set.

with my henckels cermax they just scream quality so loud you want to fall down and cry yourself to comfort. with this wusthof it's like meh whatever ! the quality of this knife is like a screwdriver you buy from home depot yeah it does the job, but nothing to get excited about.

its comfortable. it does a good job peeling apples. i use it every day. i have no complaints with it regarding functionality.

but bragging rights ? well it IS a cool knife but only because of the cool shape. the quality though is average and that is obvious to the naked eye. i have a 8" chef from the same Grand Prix II line of wusthof and it has the same uninspiring average quality. My henckels twin four star II Chef has double the quality ( in terms of fit and finish ) and also cuts better due to having a thinner blade than the Grand Prix II Chef. but ok this is not a Chef's knife but i was making a point about fit and finish on the whole line did i mention it is average at best? on the Henckels Twin Four Star it is good, but i felt the Twin Four Star II handle shape was wrong for a paring knife.

as for my Henckels Cermax well just wow they are so in your face awesome that i never use them at all. i just know in my heart i am not worthy so i don't touch them. to use a Cermax knife to make dinner is like using a Hasselblad camera as a hammer ( well, maybe not quite hehe ). besides, i don't think that line has a bird's beak paring knife anyway.

but yeah i hope you get my drift here. get this knife if you want to peel some apples. if you want to make a present to that special somebody get a Shun or something. a Shun will cost more, it will probably work the same, and probably end up chipping the blade eventually, but at least it will be eye candy unlike this uninspiring blob of polymer goo with a blade stuck in it LOL

Oneida Michelangelo 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Michelangelo 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set, Service for 4I have a two sets of 12 along with all the extra serving pieces and I absolutely love love love this flatware. I use it everyday and as a matter of fact I have one of the sets in my motorhome. I love how beautiful it is and how even after 30+ years of using it daily, putting in the dishwasher, etc., it still looks as good as the day I brought it home. How do I know that, 'because we accidentally threw out some of the salad forks with the trash and the replacements for those just arrived last week and of course I put them along side my old pieces to check out how they looked. I could not tell them apart. I love how this pattern make me feel a little extra "special" each and every time I use them. I love the ornate look. I highly recommend this design.

I purchased this set for a service of 8. It is real 18/10 and the set looks great. It's stainless like any other stainless from flatware to pots and pans--18/10. Nothing more nothing less. Don't really know what the other reviewer is talking about. Their comment about the box it came it, well maybe they should check the sources where they buy their items from. Oneida is long established and so is this pattern. I'm sure mine will last a very long time. Very nice pattern.

I've owned this pattern for 30 years.

I purchased a few extra pieces 10 years ago and then again last week. Here's what I found.

Original knife 65.5 grams. 10 years ago knife 64.7 grams. That's probably within manufacturing tolerances. The pattern in both had similar levels of detail. New knife 75.8 grams. That's a 16% increase in weight. In addition the pattern wasn't as detailed. It was close but less precise.

The weight difference means a change in alloy. What that change is I don't know. The loss of minor details could be due to stamping molds being old, etc. Or it could be from the change in alloy if the change increased the hardness. I also noticed the serrated edge on the top of the knife were more pronounced.

None of the differences were large enough to make the 30 year old, 10 year old and new pieces non-compatible.

I just got this set after searching for flatware made in the USA. This popped up, but it is not made here. The set is somewhat lopsided as well. Just thought you'd like to know just in case you made the same search and didn't read the description in detail like me. This doesn't seem to be as nice as the price would indicate. My Old set was cheaper and more detailed and symmetrical. This looks more like a $50 product.

Edit: Now I'm disgusted even more with this--cost me $10 for all the shipping. Insult to injury.

This spring I decided to replace the stainless flatware set that I had used daily for twenty-five years. I'm a careful buyer who likes quality and elegance at a good price, so did a thorough search before selecting the set. After reviewing the three grades of stainless steel (18/10, 18/8, and 18/0), 18/10 clearly stood out as the most desirable grade at a relatively modest premium in price. I chose the 18/10 Oneida Michelangelo as soon as I saw the picture. It is a beautiful set that has the look of an ornate silverplate or sterling pattern. I bought a service for twelve with eight pieces per place setting [salad fork, dinner fork, dinner knife, two teaspoons, place (soup) spoon, iced tea spoon, and steak knife] and twelve serving pieces (including a carving set). The set is delightful to use, and feels comfortable in the hand. Girl friends literally gasp when they open the kitchen drawer to see this very impressive flatware array. I rate it at four stars instead of five for two reasons: the dinner fork and soup spoon are a little shorter than I am used to using (no doubt a manufacturing cost concession), and the serrated steak knives are not as sharp as Henckels steak knives. These are minor shortcomings in my view, given the positives. Buy the set and don't look back. You'll be happy you did.
