Diamond Cut Supreme 2pc Kitchen Shear Set

Diamond Cut Supreme 2pc Kitchen Shear SetWe seem to go through kitchen shears like they are paper towels in this house, but these have lasted and lasted. They are sharp and the added jar openers are an added bonus. They cut up crab legs and chicken with ease.

We kept losing our expensive kitchen shears when children would run off with them for various projects, so I decided to get this pair of expendable kitchen shears. They are more cheaply made than I expected but do work.

The product picture showing the package with the red background is exactly what I got. The two shears are slightly different. The "poultry" shears have a little slot which we use for things like flower stems or green bean ends. I doubt they would cut through a chicken leg, but we haven't actually tried it. They might get through a joint between the bones though. Unfortunately, since the blades don't line up perfectly, the notch will often catch. I can only use the tips for cutting, such as last night opening a frozen spinach bag.

The other "all-purpose" shears is the same but without the notch. Both are 8" long with 2.75" blades and have white hexagonal plastic covers on the rivet joint. There are notches along one blade but these are only for decoration; the cutting edges are straight, not serrated.

There doesn't seem to be much if any quality control at "Diamond Cut Supreme". The blades on our poultry shears don't even touch as you close them until about half way down the blades. The all-purpose shears don't quite finish closing, leaving the tip slightly open. But both are sharp and can cut through plastic blister packs with ease.

If you only need one the all-purpose shears are available alone: Diamond Cut Multi-Purpose Kitchen Shears.

These are (of course) made in China. There is a Dallas Texas address for warranty service listed on the package; you must include a check in "an amount equal to what you are paying to return the defective product." Obviously your cost would be more than what you are paying to buy these.

These are OK for disposable purposes, but if you want nicer kitchen shears, try Chicago Cutlery Centurion Shears. Ours were great until they ran off. I also bought Betty Crocker Scissors / Kitchen Shears from a dollar store, and even they are much more smooth and better made than these.

Bought these to replace a similar one that died after years of abuse, brand initials c.c. Unfortunately these two have no edge at all, they seem sturdy, though you can't detach the halves to clean, but doesn't really matter if I can't manage to cut a piece of string with them they won't ever get enough use to get dirty.

I bought these as backup for the kitchen since our scissors always seem to disappear. I tried using them all last week on different items in the kitchenbags, paper, produce, and it honestly could do the job at all.

The only part of the scissors that actually cuts is the first 1/2 inch.

Seriouslydollar store kids scissors would cut better than these.

the only thing I dont like this that the shears are a bit short and the handles are not comfortable to hold. I do like that they dont come apart. I hate the meat scissors that come apart they always seem to break apart and go falling towards your foot.

Curious Chef Large Nylon Plastic Knife

Curious Chef Large Nylon Plastic KnifeMy 8yo and 5yo used this knife for the first time tonight and loved it. Planning on ordering one more so they can both chop at the same time.

My granddaughter loved the knife and can now cut up her own fruit and vegetables. She helps my daughter in the kitchen.

Great for a 'Big Helper'. Keeps little fingers safe. Not great so great at actually cutting, but is worth making cooking fun and healthy.

Bought this looking for a plastic knife to replace an old Rubbermaid knife that broke. Unfortunately, the square tip make it unsuitable for cutting things in coated pans (which is what I need to do.) Construction is OK, but why would I want a non-rounded tip? What it needs is a shape similar to a metal knife. Why do I need a plastic chopper?

Mundial Sushimen 9-1/4 in Tachi Knife 4907-9

Mundial Sushimen 9-1/4 in Tachi Knife 4907-9This is like, a really long knife. I'm really no expert when it comes to knives.. i just bought this knife cuz it looked awesome and cost $25 (from somewhere else). Anyways, it's REALLY freaking long and the tip of the knife is a 90 degree angle, with the point being the same edge as the rest of the knife. This means you can technically slice stuff with the tip. It also means that if you're cleaning it with a sponge, it has the possiblity of completely destroying your sponge.

Cleaning aside, i really don't know what to do with this knife. Every description of this knife online (and i mean like, EVERY description) say "great for octopus", which is basically completely useless to me. I tried cutting a pear with this and i almost sliced my finger off (aka, i dont think its meant to cut pears), and I also cut some cheese with it... i don't think it's supposed to cut cheese either.

Again, i'm no expert on knives, but i suspect this is supposed to handle thin slices of fish or something. The spine of the knife is very thick compared to the edge, so i dont think cutting anything wider than the knife itself is a good idea. And since it's freakin' 9 3/4 inches long, it is kinda hard to control.

I was totally gonna make an awesome Harry Potter wand joke right here, but it turns out that Voldemort's wand is 13 inches, not 9 3/4. lame.

Bodum Bistro Ceramic 12 cm 4-1/2-Inch Tomato Knife

Bodum Bistro Ceramic 12 cm 4-1/2-Inch Tomato Knife, BlackThis is a good lightweight sharp knife. I bought it to slice (ripe) tomatoes without mushing them. Works just right.

The handle feels good in my hand. The grip is comfortable. Would I repurchase this item? Knowing what I do, yes.

Hope this helps in your decision to purchase, or not, this product.

Ginsu Shoku 05740 8-Piece Cutlery Set, Assorted Colors

Ginsu Shoku 05740 8-Piece Cutlery Set, Assorted ColorsLike most of the other reviews on this product. You're not going to get what you think you're getting. Wish I would have read the reviews, but it was one of those lighting deals and well... you know how those work. I got a blue knife set with one green knife. Not exactly a rainbow of colors. I was ordering this for my mom for christmas and she still wanted to keep it, because I got it for her, so I won't be returning it even though I'd like to. I'm so mad I'm leaving my prepositions hanging!

Just like everyone else has said, these are good knives, but not a good color mix. They apparently are randomly packaged. I got 4 pinks, 2 blacks, and one green. I didn't buy them for the rainbow colors, but the way they are packaged, it makes them look like they were purchased separately and put in the block rather than as a set. Would have been nice to get some blue and purple in the set too, as advertised.

I just got these knives yesterday, so I can't really comment on the quality, but I'm so sad that I got four black handles and only 3 color ones, definitely not as pictured. I used the Santoku this morning, very nice and sharp, cut wonderfully. Just sad about not getting the colors pictured. The colored one are very pretty and vibrant as pictured, the block is nice, just don't want 4 black-handle knives when I ordered 'rainbow'.

They appear to be a pretty nice set. The slot where the sharpening steel goes is a little large and could be smaller to help keep the steel from bumping into one of the other larger knife handles. But over all it appears to be really nice, has a fairly nice balance to them. I have not used it long enough to see how the edge hold ups so maybe an update will be in order at a later time

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Carving Knife

J.A. Henckels International Forged Synergy 8-Inch Carving KnifeWhat a wonderful knife. Inexpensive, yet great quality! A very well built knife that holds a great edge. Will certainly buy more Forged Synergy knives.

All the J.A.Henckels knives are great, but shop around and buy by the set if you can its much cheaper. Amazon is about the best price but compare sets, it can be confusing as to what your getting for the money. I bought mine at a Kohl's store and the set wasn't complete so I had to add these individually. For example the 6 or 8 pieces set has a couple of additional slots in the block for knives not included, hence I had to buy these on line at additonal cost. Just be careful. Oh and these knives are heavy, don't drop or your toes may be in the way. LOL. We weren't used to quality and dropped a couple times, no harm but lucky toes and dogs were out of the way.

Yesterday I received this knife, even before September 1st owned Henckel Classic had my doubts about this knife, because they were manufactured in China, but it was very good my surprise, noting that this knife in design is much more attractive and Ergon my classic and in quality is almost the same, really recommend it, no matter the country where a product is manufactured, it is important that Henckel these are done with their high quality standards.

Wusthof Traditional Gourmet 7-Piece Block Set

Wusthof Traditional Gourmet 7-Piece Block SetI purchased this set during an Amazon Friday Sale and am pleased with its quality.

Each knife came separately packaged. It was packed as in it's original box inside of a larger box (important to me since I dislike it when items are shipped only in their manufacturer's box).

I am a novice cook and a young bachelor recently out of college so I needed a set of knives to start out with. Using my cheap Farberware or whatever brand you get at the supermarket wasn't cutting it (literally). So based on the price and the reputation of Wushtof, I decided to go with this set. It's supposed to be designed the same as the Classic series of Wushtof knives (excellent knives), but not of the same quality. I cannot give any negative comments about it yet. I use the chef's knife most often, but all have been very useful. The knives were very sharp out of the box and cut through anything smoothly and cleanly. Remember that I'm upgrading from supermarket knives, but this has made cutting things fun. I smile everytime I cut a tomato so nicely and easily or a chicken breast into two thin filet-like pieces.

I recommend this to those who need a set of knives to get away from that supermarket junk, but don't really have the money (or don't want to spend that much money) on a set of knives. I would also recommend it for anyone. I haven't used any "top of the line" knives, but for me, these are one of the most satisfying additions to my growing arsenal of kitchenware.

I love my knife set. I have used the more expensive Wusthof chef's knives at cooking class, and I cannot tell any difference between them and this very reasonably priced Gourmet knife. The small bread/tomato knife is fabulous. The chef's knife is perfect. And the shears come in handy constantly. Cannot recommend this set highly enough. Keep in mind that I am a novice cook, but I can't see anyone being disappointed with these knives and this price.

Wusthof 5-in. Gourmet Sandwich Spreader.

Wusthof 5-in. Gourmet Sandwich Spreader. This Wusthof "spreader" combines a serrated bread knife with a spreader head. The knife edge side has serrated pointed teeth like a bread or tomato knife which makes it easier for me when I cut sandwiches, slice bagels, slice crusty rolls, and even slice tomatoes. The knife/spreader is just under 9 ½" long (from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle). The blade is both longer (just under 4 ¾") and the head of the knife is wider (just under 1 ¾" at its widest) than the spreader knife I use. There is just under 3 ¼" of serrations from the lower tip of the front of the knife going back to the handle. And the remaining edge is a straight knife blade that is a little over 1 ¾" long. Because this knife has no pointed tip, it takes just a bit of patience to carefully make that first opening in a bagel or roll before I can really begin slicing. Because this knife has sharp edges, use care if you have young kids helping to make sandwiches.

I prefer to put on spread using the non-serrated side of the knife but I'll have to keep the serrated side of the knife in mind when I put icing on things like cupcakes to put on fancy swirls.

This Wusthof's Gourmet knife has what I'll call a full half tang. Huh? I can see a full tang on top of the handle while the bottom of the handle has no exposed tang. I'm guessing this gives the knife strength and me control when cutting. I like the fit between the tang and the handle: there is no gap just like any better quality knife.

The instruction on the back of the blister package says they recommend hand washing the knife. Heck, it even recommends storing this knife in a knife block or basically treating the knife like it's a cutlery knife. So I wash this knife by hand and I use a knife guard to store this knife in my knife drawer.

PROS:

Combines a tomato/bread knife with a spreader so you can use one knife for making sandwiches or preparing your morning bagels.

A larger head means less scooping from a jar and fewer strokes to put on spread.

The longer blade means you can reach the bottom of most jars.

CONS

The wider head may make it difficult to get into some jar necks when compared with other spreaders.

If you look around, most sandwich spreaders are small, frumpy blades that are made for little more than buttering a muffin. Not this Wusthof, which includes its classic handle design along with a strong sharply serrated blade that flexes slightly. As usual, Amazon has the dimensions wrong. This knife measures 9.25 inches long and its blade is 2" wide. You're not cheated on handle length either; it's the same as other classic Wusthof knives. That means it can reach to the bottom of most jars with ease. If you've never had a spreader around the house, you're in for a treat. It's a tool you will use for the rest of your life, and one of these Wusthof spreaders will last that long. Don't leave them soaking in water nor submit them to the dishwasher; they clean quickly and easily, then wipe dry.

Buy Wusthof 5-in. Gourmet Sandwich Spreader. Now

I purchased the Wusthof Gourmet block set and a few other Wusthof knives. I came across this sandwich spreader and it reminded me of when I used to work in a little deli in college so I purchased it. I have to say I use this for any spreading needs now, in place of using a butter knife. I have used it to spread butter, peanut butter, jellies, condiments, etc. It spreads better than a butter knife and the wider spreading area makes the job quicker. It is also serrated on one edge which allows for cutting toast etc. It is sharp enough on the serrated edge that I actually cut myself on it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a new utensil for spreading that works better than a butter knife.

This little spreader makes spreading peanut butter, mayo etc so much easier and faster. The blade is short than a typical butter knife and certainly much wider so keeping the jam or whatever on the bread works very well. This certainly isn't a "need" item, but if you make a lot of sandwiches like we do in our household (peanut butter is food group for our boys) this little gadget will make life a little easier.

Birchware Compostable Assorted Utensils (160mm) 24pcs.

Birchware Compostable Assorted Utensils 24pcs.I have to admit that I was very positively surprised to find that Birchware utensils are sturdy enough to compete with plastic utensils.

I ordered an assorted package to distribute samples to our local music festival organizers with whom my committee is working on implementing a zero waste initiative since last year (2012). Since we are collecting food waste we were looking for utensils that were compostable. I'm happy to report that the utensils past our scrutiny and that of the festival directors and they will now order a big number to provide them to the vendors at the festival a good faith effort in order to convince the vendors that this is the way to go in the future.

Unlike an earlier reviewer, we could not find any wood splinters on any of the utensil. They are smooth, do not taste of wood (unless you use it as a lolly-pop?). By comparison, Birchware utensils were actually sturdier and smoother than Aspenware. i suggest you order both to make up your mind.

For now I will give it 4-stars since I wish the fork prongs were a little longer )but this could perhaps compromise the sturdiness of it?).

I will update my review later in July 2013 when we had the opportunity to ask the audience for feedback!

Don't hesitate you will love this alternative to plastic!

I have been researching different compostable utensils for my new restaurant that is operating with "zero waste". I found the Birchware to be very functional for a wood utensil. The wood texture is definitely different than plastic, but not a bad different, just different. The fork worked fine for salads, potatoes and meat. Although carrots were hard to stab, which is pretty much true for any non-metal utensil. I found the knife to be very useful. We cut into a fairly tough skinned bratwurst and the serrated edge cut right through. It cut through a steak and baked potato just fine. I isn't a steak knife, so it wasn't a clean line, but it did the job plastic or cornware would do and it only takes 60 days to compost in a home composting system. I'm sold and will be using it in my restaurant.

I was pleased with the price and overall quality of this ulu. This is a more traditional kind, without the long handle and the gap in the blade; making it more efficient at skinning and fleshing. I didn't give it 5 stars because the blade isn't sharp, at all. I had to put in some time with my whetstone for it to be useable; now it shaves.

Model 1720 CUTCO Paring Knives with 2.9" Straight Edge blades and 4.9" Classic Dark Brown 'Diamond'

Model 1720 CUTCO Paring Knives with 2.9' Straight Edge blades and 4.9' Classic Dark Brown 'Diamond' handles.I own the 2-3/4" knife and it's easy to use and very sharp. It does get dull over time and it's not a must have knife. It's very useful though to cut the skin of the fruit and that's what I mainly use it for. I'm not trying to get all fancy and carve roses out of veggies or anything unless a special occasion.

One thing is that since it's a straight blade, it's easy to resharpen and I just use the accusharp sharpener (just for your info) and use no pressure to resharpen and good as new.

I have another knife and even when it's resharpened, this knife still cuts better and the blade is a better quality made than others. This isn't the only sharpest knife as I'm sure there are others and maybe cheaper. I'm not worried as I resharpen it when I notice it starts to get dull. Simple as that and a lifetime guarantee (or forever guarantee) is good to know that if I accidently break this, I could get another for free (except the shipping cost).

I invested in a set of Cutco knives when I was 22 yrs. old before ever getting married. I received a complete set of china along with it. Over the years I noticed that my paring knife dissappeared. I found it six years later at my father's house. He liked to peel his apples before eating them with a good sharp knife. He was a good judge of knives and I guess he liked mine. Somehow it dissappeared again, but this time I was not going to wait to find it. Good knives have a habit of growing legs and walking off, so I replaced it. Be careful these knives are sharp.

Cutco knives are exceptionally dull from the factory. One of the selling points they talk about is free sharpening for life but that is comical given the quality of the service. They often look they have been sharpened on a block of concrete. Sharpening them with grits as coarse as 80 on a belt sander yields a significantly finer finish. Despite the poor factory sharpening, they do hold a decent edge once sharpened by anyone that cares slightly about the outcome. This is true on all but the cheapest chinese knives though. Given that, I'd suggest you either spend less for a better knife like a Global which will come wicked sharp from the factory and remain so if taken care of, or buy a modestly priced knife and have it professionally sharpened.

Wusthof Classic Hollow Edge Cooks Knife

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Hollow-Ground Cook's KnifeIf you're looking for quality cutlery then look no further than Wusthof. This knife is as good as it gets and well worth the cost. I initially thought the 8" model might be more than I need for everyday use, but after using it for a while now, I have to say that I'm so glad I didn't go smaller. This knife is substantial in all respects. The look and feel of it is superb. There are certainly other choices for a lot less money if you're shopping for cutlery, but I assure you you will not be sorry if you make the proper investment up front with this knife. I second another reviewer here and caution one to be very careful when using, as the blade is indeed sharp and has remained so since I first began working with it. Because of that, it is an absolute joy to use. Just be sure to wash it, dry it, and put it back in its block as soon as you're done with it. This knife is serious cutlery. You'll be in love with it the first time you slice into a tomato and find you can cut it as thin as you desire.

I recently purchased this knife for my son's birthday and he loves it! I have a good quality chefs knife in this price range but this knife is far superior. It feels balanced allowing it to cut very easily and smoothly. The hollow edge keeps food from sticking for better slicing and chopping of different food types. I am planning to ask for one for myself for Christmas!

Combo Pack Rada Cutlery Cooks Spoon and Cooks Spoon with Holes, Made in USA (R123/125)

Combo Pack Rada Cutlery Cooks Spoon and Cooks Spoon with Holes, Made in USAI chose this pair because they were the only kitchen utensils I could find that were made in the USA. From the description, I knew they were shorter than most stainless steel cooking spoons, but I decided to try them. I would not buy them again. Not only are they short, their bowls are rounded in a way that makes them difficult to use, and the metal is weird. They might work in a pinch for tossing and serving a salad.

I had been looking for snub nose spoons (AKA Cooks spoons) for awhile. I ordered the set of two (one with holes and one without) and I'm very pleased. It allows one to stir, fry, etc. and to scrap the bottom of your fry pan, pot, etc. with ease. The handle length and size of the spoons are perfect. Everyone who cooks even a little needs a set of these.

Christmas 2011 ABC TV challenged us to spend $60 on American made articles. If every American spent this much we could turn our economy around. I wasn't looking for cooks spoons only found these when I searched "made in America". I had purchased a set of steak knives and small knives in a specialty shop in Gatlinburg Tennessee years ago. If there were instructions to not put in the dishwasher I did not pay any attention hence the handles darkened. This did not effect the quality or performance of the cutlery. To hit the $60 dollar amount I purchased several other items made by Rada . After a year and 2 months usage and hand washing they are just like the day I opened the box. I am pleased.

Shun DMS235 2-Piece Classic Meat Set of Knives

Shun DMS235 2-Piece Classic Meat Set of KnivesFirst, I've come to love Shun knives as the best value for money in higher end cutlery. These two knives are an interesting pairing. The cleaver is a beast. The 10" hollow ground is a highly flexible razor. As a note, neither look like the Damascus steel of other Shun's .

Classic cleaver:

1. I've not imagined much need for the big knife. I was wrong. I first used it to whack through a whole chicken, oriental style. It did the job perfectly.

2. In the process of cutting the chicken, I had bok choy to thin chop. I used this big boy and discovered that it is also the best veggie chop knife I have. The control and speed of the knife in rocking mode is superior to the 2 high end metzaluna's I had become used to.

3. The knife is heavy and solid. Sharpening to surgical edge is easy maintenance.

10" hollow ground salmon/ham knife:

1. The sharpest and smoothest thin cutter I've ever seen.

2. Highly flexible blade enables straight cuts. The knife is incredibly thin.

3. The best sushi/sashimi knife I've ever used.

Great knives. Cleaver is great for breaking down chickens, etc. Slicer is exceptional on filleting salmon. Highly recommend, knives have superb balance. Would buy again.

I can not believe how much I got these for in the Gold Box. I'd just told my husband I wanted a cleaver and the next day this appears. They're sharp, of course, and the cleaver has some weight to it. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro-S 18-Piece Knife Set with Block

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro-S 18-Piece Knife Set with BlockI have used my new knives for about a week now and am extremely impressed with how easily they but through whatever I'm trying to cut through, and how perfectly they feel in my hand. Their weight, and extreme sharpness, allow you to exert very little effort in slicing through food. I compared them side-by-side to my other store-bought set of knives, and even after using the sharpening steel on the old set, I just couldn't achieve anywhere near the same degree of razor-sharpness as have the Henckels. Not that it matters to me, but the 8 steak knives are stamped, rather than forged, but they are still extremely sharp none the less. Unfortunately, however, the knives do not comes with any care instructions, nor instructions as to how to use the sharpening steel. It took some Internet research and some practice on my old knives to begin to feel comfortable sharpening these. In any case, you can't go wrong, albeit the price is pretty high for this set of knives.

I take exception to Mr. Michael George's (Scottsdale, AZ.) reveiw of this knife set, Henckels Pro "S" series and forged, bolstered knives in general.

If he has been a professional for 14 years then he should have learned the term "bolster" by now...and he should have been able to sharpen his knives properly without wearing the edge out...he's probably using an electric sharpener or sending them out. The culinary school reference is questionable also...Le Cordon Bleu uses Mundail knives...etc.

This a top of the line set and shouldn't be maligned out of ignorance. If you learn how to use the steel that is provided and a good fine stone then these will last you a lifetime.

We defend the honor of these mighty fine blades with 6 mojo*z

The main knives in this set are advertised... from the Pro S line, beautiful and excellent quality.

However, nowhere in the product description does it say that the steak knives are not Pro S knives, but in fact serrated much lower quality knives from the Gourmet line.

I had gone back and forth in my mind between buying Henckels or Wusthof knives, and was incredibly impressed with some non-serrated Wusthof knives the other night at a nice steakhouse. To find out that I had inadvertently bought a set of lower-end serrated knives was a disappointment. I would have willingly paid more for an all Pro S set of knives, so this is unfortunate.

I purchased this set in December of 2011 for Christmas. It clearly states on the Amazon advertisement and on the Henkel website (at least before I contacted them) that this is a 18 piece "PRO S" set. No where did it mention, not even on the packaging that it was a 9 piece "PRO S" set and a 8 piece "Gourmet" Steak knife set! I contacted the manufacture about this and there answer was the following. "if you look at the picture of the knives, you will clearly see that the steak knife was stamped and not a forged piece". I do not know about you, but I did not and think that this set is clearly misrepresented. PLEASE NOTE, YOU ARE ONLY RECEIVING 9 "PRO S" KNIVES IN THIS SET!!!. The manufacture knows of this and still continues to market it as an 18 piece "PRO S" knife set. The interesting thing to note, if you refer to the Henkel website now, they made a change immediately after I contacted them which basically admits fault. Just on principle alone, I would not purhcase another Henkel product as they are clearly using a "Bate and Swith" tactic to sell their knives in some instances. I think the PRO S knives are fantastic but this set is not worth the money, even at the "Discounted" price they sell for. Why would you advertise a set as a "PRO S" WHEN NEARLY HALF OF THE KNIVES IN THE SET ARE NOT REMOTELY CLOSE TO THE QUALITY OF THE "PRO S" SERIES!!! As you can tell I am very upset by the whole issue and will not do business with the HENKEL company again. I used to have lots of respect for the Henckel company as they lead me to believe that they were above this type of tactic to sell a high quality knife but I think it is clear to me that in order to maintain their sales volumes, they have sacrificed on quality and have resorted to misleading customers. I completely respect the opinion of those who disagree and hope that you do the same for me. I just want all to know, this is only a "9 piece PRO S" and not the 18 piece PRO S set they advertise.

Assuming you have also read the other reviews (you should there's good info there) I must concur with Mojostarz. Although I am not a professional chef, I have used this set (completed by the 6" Meat Cleaver and the 7" Carving Flat Fork) for probably over 6 years now, every day. Sharpening knives is a serious hobby of mine. I have sharpened these blades many, many times on my stone in the years I have owned them. They are not bowed, nor are the blades edges at all noticeably shorter than the metal bands at the back. They still cut "all the way thru" just about everything. (So watch out, that means your clumsy fat fingers too.) I can even get the steak knives pretty good on the stone. You just have to ease off right before you feel the serrations on the right side. The steak knives are very difficult to sharpen because they have a kind of undulating shape to the blade, but I can get 'em pretty good if I concentrate.

I'm not going to re-invent the wheel, because a lot of good information has already been said. I will add this:

1) These Professional "S" knives are excellent. If you understand the very fine art of how to restore an edge with a fine grit stone and some oil (my preference) to a blade when the sharpening steel is no longer enough, you will be very happy with the way these Pro "S" series blades respond. I can get mine as good or better than new when sharpened, just wicked sharp. Especially if you have tried to sharpen cheaper knives and wondered why your efforts just don't seem to "take" as well. They are well balanced, the grips have the best ergos ...they're just a pleasure to use. If you don't know anything about sharpening a knife, at least learn how to correctly steel them. There are some excellent videos on YouTube. Maybe the Henckels site includes this in their "Instructional Knife Skills" web video. If you sport this kind of quality in your home, live it.

2) Don't put them in the dishwasher please.

3) The 19 slot wooden Henckels block looks REALLY LOPSIDED and "sad" without the carving fork and cleaver.

4) Don't pass them around with Hors d'Oeuvres or leave them all night on serving tables when you have big parties and everybody gets sloshed. Because when people think they're "helping" they may actually be dumping one of your prized knives into the trash.

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch with Hand Grip and Juice Canal

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch with Hand Grip and Juice CanalWhat a beautiful cutting board. It's the perfect size, might seem to big, but wait till you start using it and have plenty of room to cut, chop an move things off to the side and still have room. It's a showpiece too, looks absolutley beautiful on my kitchen counter.

Easy to clean......just read the insert that comes with it, to avoid bacteria growth, just clean it and dry it with a papertowel after each use.

This cutting board is gorgeous and huge. When I got it in the mail, I was blown away at how big it is. I love it and would recommend it for anyone who needs a good cutting board. You may not need one this big but it is easily big enough to hold a 22 lb turkey and the trough for the juice is a nice thing to have when you need to let meat rest before serving it. It holds a lot of juice too. Remember to keep it oiled with a quality wood oil that has other food grade oils such as mineral oil. I use Howard Butcher Block Conditioner which costs $8 at Home depot and it works very nicely. Make sure to use this at least every few weeks and it will keep its beauty for a long time!

Board arrived very poorly packaged within shipping box. Upon opening the box, the board was broken in half with a separate pice of wood also broken. Very disappointed. Money refunded.

This Proteak Cutting Board is beautiful, well made, a large perfect surface for cutting againstnever dulls knives. The juice grooves keeps all fluids from leaking onto the counter. It is however, VERY heavy so it's easier if you plan to keep it on your counter as it is very cumbersome.

Good Cook Watermelon / Fruit / Melon Knife

Good Cook Watermelon / Fruit / Melon KnifeI'm glad I purchased this when I did....I bought mine cheap and when I looked at the price again it had gone up significantly (I gotta great deal ). Price probably reflects the season you purchase in. but anyway...I bought my 1st watermelon (this year) a week ago and this knife sliced right through the melon with no problems. I recommend this knife for any type of melon or pineapple.

This is the only watermelon knife I have used. It sees to never ware out so I am not lured to other versions. I was surprised that there is a need for this critter; it found me in the store. It is so much easier than using steak knives. I also have longer knives but they are not as easy to use as this critter. I also appreciate the sheath especially with inquisitive cats.

Chicago Cutlery Centurion 4-3/4-Inch Utility Knife

Chicago Cutlery Centurion 4-3/4-Inch Utility KnifeI love to cook and used to do it professionally. My son has a set of Wusthof knives that are so sharp and heavy that I'm afraid of them. I have cut myself several times with them. Chicago had a good reputation back when I was a kid as a quality brand, and the price was right so I tried them. The weight and balance is right for me, but I think I need a honing steel. I just think the edge isn't quite what it should be. I do like them, though and am glad I bought them.

Wusthof Gourmet 7-Inch Offset Handle Bread/Deli Knife

Wusthof Gourmet 7-Inch Offset Handle Bread/Deli KnifeI bought this knife because of a great review in The New York Times. Every word of it is true. You will return to this knife over and over. It will be THE knife that you always reach for.

I got mine here at some super sale, probably a friday sale. I would not usually be able to justify the cost of this knife.

I had never used one, just noticed one in a kitchen someone I know to buy the best of everything.

My family loves a good loaf of crusty bread sliced thin, and this knife is just perfect.

The knife is now two years old, and it cuts bread like it was new. I would guess it will still be years before it will need sharpening.

I have owned on of these knives for 5 years... learned about it when a shadowed a chef in a professional kitchen (I was looking at going to culinary school). This knife stays sharp forever (with and occasional run over a steel) and is perfect for prepping vegetables (anything that can be sliced or diced). The only cutting task this knife is not good for is mincing, since it has a serrated blade (I highly recommend a Wusthof Classic Santuko 7inch for this purpose). Oh and it cuts bread like a champ! I'm on Amazon at this time ordering another... this knife gets so much use in my house it is always dirty.

In reference to the review by "A customer". This knife is the "Gourmet" series, if you like the feel of the "Classic" series, this knife can be purchased in an 8 inch version for a few more dollars. IMHO the Gourmet is fine, because unlike other styles of knives, a serrated knife will eventually wear out if you use a sharpening steel on it (which is necessary to keep it perfectly sharp).

If you enjoy cooking, this knife will become your best friend.

I discovered the joys of offset knives at a knife skills class. There's something to be said for chopping without banging your knuckles on the counter. I've had the knife for years now, and it still cuts well despite never having been sharpened. The blade is excellent for vegetables with a filmy skin, like tomatoes and peppers. But it handles other stuff like carrots and raw meat just fine.
