Towle Wave 20-Piece Flatware Set

Towle Wave 20-Piece Flatware SetYou will not be disappointed with this flatware! It is sturdy, has a nice heavy-weight feel, great balance, beautiful set that can be dressed up or down, and cleans up easily in the dishwasher. Knives are sharp enough that my steak knives are gathering dust. Spoons are sturdy enough that I don't bother with an ice cream scoop because these won't bend a bit.

Maybe it's the by-product of too many years eating with cafeteria silverware and hand-me-downs, but when I went shopping for a new set of flatware, I knew that I wanted something that felt substantial in my hands. I went to the local Bed, Bath and Beyond, and picked up every knife from their various display sets to find one that didn't feel flimsy or awkward to hold. As soon as I picked up the Wave knife, I knew that I'd fallen in love (I didn't know that was possible with flatware). Each piece is balanced wonderfully, and the handles are comfortable in your grip. Amazon had a much better price, so I bought online, and had the benefit of knowing that these are so much more impressive in person than they initially appear online.

If you are only going to buy one set of flatware, I recommend the Wave. It is sturdy and dishwasher safe, making it great for everyday use, but it looks striking laid out on my dining table with good china as well. I've received lots of compliments on this set.

Very highly recommend! Best silverware for the price, hands down.

I love the feel of this simple, yet elegant set. However, within a very short time of owning this set the pieces seem to be falling apart. It looks like the silverware is actually a silver coated plastic, and some of the silver has come off.

im very picky about my silverware and just recently rid myself of a great set because i purchased this Wave flatware. I am fond of a rounded handle because i want to be able to fork cut something on my plate without the handle digging into my other finger. This flatware exceeded my expectations for quality and looks. I am not fond of having to put them in the dishwasher (handwashing them creates finger prints/smudges on the handles) but they come out shiny perfect everytime. i am using these as everyday silverware but for some people it'd be the "good silverware" to put away for special occasions. I did, however, have to purchase another (bigger) set from another website because my family is larger than most and amazon did not have the 42 piece. I am happy with this product and Amazon shopping.

This set looks nice and arrived in time but the very first time I used them, I noticed one of the forks had gotten scratched. It was a small party with just four adults and I hand-washed them immediately after. Needless to say I was very disappointed.

I love this flatware. The stems have a round cross-section, not flat, which means that not only does it have good weight, but that they are stronger in terms of bending. I plowed through rock-hard ice cream (freezer on too cold) without any bending at all. They also look really nice, and dont get spotting from the dishwasher.

There is only one problem I see, and that is on that most people probably wont have. I eat my meals from the coffee table/sofa/my lap, and the weight of the flatware often causes it to fly off the plate if I move the plate. This was never an issue with crappy lightweight flatware, but if you dont move your dinnerplates with the forks hanging off the edge, lol, you shouldnt have a problem.

All in all, I am really happy with this set. Good job.

Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife Set

Shun TDMS0400 Premier 4-Piece Steak Knife SetI cringed at the price for months, until I just gave in and ordered them figuring I'd probably return them. Yeah, that's a LOT of money for a damned steak knife... for four of them, really. Could they really be that nice?

First I'll give my deduction of 1 star. The "hand hammered" finish is in fact a machine hammered finish. All four steak knives have identical hammer marks... all of the blades share the same hammer marks on each side. If these were hand hammered, there would be some variation in the hammer marks, there really is none. That being said...

Shun Premier knifes are just amazing. These steak knives are no exception. The handles are light and the blade is wide and thin with the razor sharp edge pushing from the handle at a relatively aggressive cutting angle. They are delicate and precise. The perfect knife for that thick steak that can handle a 2" cut of prime rib roast without trying.

These knives are pretty large. They make all of the other steak knives I've used seem anemic even though most of them had more weight to them. They also look like they should weigh more, but that's mostly due to how thin and tall these blades are. And, while I think I'd like a little more weight in them, they handle so comfortably and precisely.

I've never really owned a really nice steak knife before, but I've used quite a few fancy sets at friend's houses. These knives fit my steak slicing habits perfectly. I honestly can't find fault with these. They're gorgeous, they're very finely crafted, the blade to handle geometry and ergonomics are excellent. They rest gently in the hand cutting a 1.5" ribeye just how I want it to cut.

The downside is really the case. I would have liked a nice, high quality case for these knives, you just get a rather sturdy cardboard box with the knives in foam. It's really nice for a cardboard box, but it certainly isn't the wooden case that comes with the Shun Elite Steak Knife Set.

Each one of these knives is of the same forged quality as any of their other knives. That's what really sets them apart from other companies set's steak knives. Yeah, they're terribly expensive, but I think they're worth it.

Trudeau Elite Paring Knife

Trudeau Elite Paring KnifeThis is the second one I have purchased and just love them! It is a bit funny to get the hang of the handle at first, it feels upside down, but once you do it works like nothing else!!

This knife is very pretty with a great weight. I came very sharp. I only gave it three stars because of the shape of the handle. It is very hard to use for certain jobs. If your making straight cuts then it's fine, but if you want to pick up a potato and peel towards you then forget it.

Redi Edge Original Knife Sharpener

Redi-Edge Knife Sharpener in a Selection of ColorsA friend of mine has one of these, and he and I get together now and then to sharpen knives: hunting and pocket knives as well as my kitchen knives. This gadget is unlike any other I have used. One stage sharpening--all at a perfectly consistent 20° angle--gives the best edge I have obtained from a sharpener. For my kitchen knives, just quick uses of a sharpening steel (with knives at 20 degrees) keeps them sharp for a good six weeks at a time. (I use them two or three times a day.) A good test of an appropriately sharp edge is paper-cutting, and blades sharpened with this tool cut through a paper bag with no effort. After sharpening with this tool, a bit of time with a wet stone hones points and edges enough to shave arm-hair.

I have used Chef's Choice with good results, but this little sharpener gives a keen edge with less effort. Since yesterday's sharpening session, I have ordered one of these for myself. Amazon's prices are about the best I have found, and these Klawhorn sharpeners are available from good hunting and sporting supply sites, too. It dumbfounds me that these sharpeners aren't more common in kitchen-gadget stores or sites.

Very simple and easy to use. Taught my wife and my sister-in-law in a matter of seconds. Can visibly see the metal shavings. Ready for a steel for fine-tuning!

This will put a sharp edge on your blade right now.

But, there is a catch.

The cutters are carbide. So they sharpen by removing metal, as in scraping it off.

In fact, you will see the metal bits on the back side of the cutters. The first time I used mine I was a little surprised by how much came off. I would suggest using an old kitchen knife to practice with before using it on your best blade. Press down a little to take off just a bit, press hard and watch the metal fly.

If you want an excellent edge and you want it right now, use this product. If you are into knives, you will also want a Lansky sharpener for those fine edged blades.

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Offset Scalloped Knife

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Offset Scalloped KnifeI bought a knife a year ago and paid a lot of money for it and was very unhappy with it, it never felt right in my hand, when I saw this knife it looked different with the off set handle and wanted to try it, the second I took it out of its cool packaging, it felt right in my hand, it is weighted well and the spine goes all the way through the handle and it cuts wonderfully smooth. I was showing it off to anyone who would listen (after all they heard me b*+%!! about the other) and they were happy to hear I was was pleased, my son was the first to inspect it and he thought it was the best knife he ever held. Spode Porto 45-Piece Flatware Set

Spode Porto 45-Piece Flatware SetI was not blown away with the design, however, man guest for dinner one night recognized that the flatware matched the tableware (Spode Blue Italian). It must have made a bigger impression than I originally thought. I will use only when using the same dish pattern.

The pattern is so elegant, and kind of tropical. Reminds me of say, British Colonial in Africa or something. Very nice weight in hand. The knives and forks are long, but then these are the kind of utensils you eat of the tip of.

The set was complete, well packaged. One large fork was bent but easily straightened the tong; I did write Spode asking for a replacement but got no reply. Still they are packaged well.

They are shiny but not blinding and the back is kind of etched as well. A very elegant, slightly tropical look for a GREAT price!

So far, washed up easily with no spotting.

The Ultimate Model 2001-MC10 Garnishing Case in Durahyde

The Ultimate Model 2001-MC10 Garnishing Case in DurahydeI ordered this bag for someone at his request. It looks quite big in the picture but in fact its actually a small bag for garnishing tools eg... small knives etc. Although it does say so in the title, beware... it cannot be adapted to fit regular size kitchen knives. It is what it says.. for garnishing tools, so check the dimensions before ordering to be sure.

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli Knife

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli KnifeI put off puchasing this knife for a long time, I knew I wanted it and it would make sandwich cutting a bit easier and I wouldnt bang my knuckles on the board anymore, but I procrastinated and put it off.

Now that I have this knife, I am disapointed I allowed myself to wait this long. This knife is amazing. It is not just a fancier version of the bread knife. This thing is in a whole different class when it comes to cutting breads. My old bread knife (also a Wushtof) is like trying to use a butter knife when compared to using this one. Add to that the benefit of it being more comfortable and the offset making it easier to use, and you have a real winner in this knife.

This knife puts a regular bread knife to shame and, unlike your bread knife, can be used for more than just cutting bread. The name Deli Knife is perfect for this knife. It cuts cheeses and hard deli meats effortlessly. It will blaze through a tall deli sandwich effortlessly without crushing it. Cuts soft and crusty breads with ease.

The only drawback I found with this knife is that it wont fit in the slot in my knife block that has now been vacated by my bread knife.

Unbelievably, this knife is now one of my favorites.

I have a fairly substantial collection of knives and this is becoming one of my favorites. The Wusthof classic line, some of which I've had for over 25 years, just seem to go on forever and still look great. Its scalloped blade makes short work of any breads, party subs, bagels, tomatoes, pot roast, ham--anything needing slicing with a touch precise enough to slice thinly without tearing. The offset construction provides a more secure grip and control for whatever slicing task is at hand. It's far from inexpensive, but when considering it multi-tasks as a tomato/bread/sandwich/slicer and carver(I'd use it carefully with boned meats to avoid any chance of dulling the edge),it was money well spent.

This is one knife in a long list of Wushof knifes (around 20) I have bought for my wife. She loves the knife just like all the other but really likes the offset handle when she cuts bread or sandwich. She doesn't have to slide the bread or sandwich to the edge of the table to cut it any more.

OXO Good Grips Dough Blender with Blades

OXO Good Grips Dough Blender with BladesI do a lot of baking; a lot of different types of baking and therefore need good equipment that is not going to break my piggy bank. I have owned several dough blenders (still have them in the baking section of my kitchen) but found this Oxo brand to be the best of the litter. It fits my hand perfectly and for those of you who do a lot of work with these utensils know, this is very important. Nothing like a good hand cramp to set your day off just right. I suspect that this company has put in quite a lot of research as to the workings of the human hand and they pretty well have it nailed with this product.

The blades of this one (five) are quite stout and do not bend and flex as most do. I hate flimsy utensils, so this one was a real pleasure when I started using it. As to the sturdiness, this one if far superior to the Wilton, Pampered Chief or Anco...there is just no comparison. Trust me, I have used them all.

There are some considerations though. As pointed out by one reviewer, this mixer is not compatible with smaller bowls. I use rather large and heavy mixing bowls so do not have that problem myself, but I can see were some might have. Secondly, cleaning by hand is a chore. I have found the best way to clean this thing up is to soak it for a bit and then simply throw it in the dishwasher. I usually like to hand wash all my equipment, but in this case I go for the washer. The other way I have used is the simple use of a longer bristled kitchen brush.

As an added tip, this is a good tool to make thin butter patties with and to slice eggs for salads..a very nice even cut.

If you do a large amount of "scratch" baking, then this one is going to make life a lot easier for you.

This product works exactly as advertised. After using knives/forks to cut in butter, I finally got frustrated and bought this -what a difference. It cuts my work time in half and does a much better job than how I used to do it. Highly recommended!

Chef Craft 21526 1-Piece Adjustable Cheese Slicer, White, 8-Inch

Chef Craft 21526 1-Piece Adjustable Cheese Slicer, White, 8-InchWe had a zinc cheese slicer that broke after 16+ years of good service (parent hand-me down). I couldn't find a "replica" of the broken slicer until I came to Amazon and found this little "jewel."

We were happy for about two weeks, and then it broke; the zinc that holds the roller snapped, and just like that, it was trash.

Not worth returning; so, I guess we'll have to try again.

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper

Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate ChipperI buy the big blocks (5 kg) of Callebaut dark chocolate for baking. Until buying this great little tool, I used a 10" chef's knife to divide the block and chop the chocolate as necessary. For the unskilled or inexperienced, this can be dangerous and a little scary, and while it gets the job done, it feels clumsy and is none too great for the knife, either. Combined with a rubber mallet or a plastic-faced hammer, this is the right tool for this particular job. Great price for it, too.

NOTE: When using on the thick blocks, the mallet is not optional; the chipper doesn't work without it.

I love to bake and make candy with bulk chocolate, but the one aspect of the process that I dread is cutting up the large chunks of chocolate. It is difficult to chop through the hard chocolate with a chefs knife. I find the job unpredictable and somewhat dangerous. This sturdy tool has resolved the issue.

I am a home cook, not a professional and I rarely have chunks of chocolate that weigh more than a couple of pounds. This tool permits chipping of the chocolate for melting in a manageable manner. I consider this method far safer than using the chef's knife. The chocolate flies around less, and to help capture the bits that leave the cutting board, I put a large piece of wax paper, or parchment paper under the cutting board.

The tool does not produce perfectly consistently sized pieces, like those bags of pre-made chocolate chunks for cookies, but for breaking down bulk chocolate to prepare for melting, this tool does its job.

Buy Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Now

This is a well made product that makes life much easier for bakers. It is perfect for chopping bulk chocolate and minimizes the time it would take if you were chopping chocolate with a knife. It is very sturdy and well-built.

Read Best Reviews of Mrs. Anderson's Baking Chocolate Chipper Here

Let me start with a brief explanation of my situation with this chipper: I am a home chef/confectioner that makes candy and chocolates on a fairly regular basis, and I needed something better than either store-bought chocolate chips (no cocoa butter to speak of) or $15/6 oz locally bought quality bars (only one place near me carries anything like Valrhona, Callebaut, etc and they are pricey). So I purchased a bulk bar online.

This thing is the only feasible way I've thought up for dealing with the mass of bulk chocolate I purchased. It does take significantly more work to make fine chunks, but it is doable. Moreover, I don't think there is any way I could have dealt with the 12lb bar I had.

Here's my current 'chunking' flow.

-Place bar in a large rubbermaid container on a solid surface. You generate a lot of 'dust' when you do this, and it's a shame to waste good chocolate. Also it's a real pain to clean up otherwise.

-Take a hammer, place chipper near the edge, start knocking off big chunks. I usually end up with fragments that span the whole length of the chunk (~4-6 inches) by 1-2", by .5-1".

-Break these up into roughly 1"x.5"x.5" chunks. That's about as small as I can get with this thing (which for a few minutes of labor and a starting piece 2"x6"x12" isn't bad!)

-Pour the resulting chunks and dust into a HEAVY duty ziplock. double bag it.

-Place something thick and soft (piece of leather, silicon potholder, etc) over the bag, and smash it a bit.

Now, I wouldn't really recommend this to make chunks for cookies, etc. The resultant bits are so variable that it'd be hard to get anything like consistency. If you want that buy grocery store bars and hammer them because that isn't what this thing is for. This is for taking large, heavy bars of bulk chocolate and breaking it down into manageable pieces you can melt easily. And not only does it do that very well, but I can't imagine doing it without this (or something nearly identical).

Though the metalwork will never appear in a museum of modern art, this chipper is a solid, sturdy tool that works perfectly. I've been looking for a chipper for some time, and for the price, this tool is a GREAT deal. Recommended.

Magisso Cake Server - Purple Plastic

Magisso Cake Server - Purple PlasticAlton Brown refuses to buy any kitchen instrument with only one purpose, and this one has 2 very nice ones for me. I've so far bought one for myself and given 3 as gifts.

Epicurean 2-Piece Prep Series Set, Natural

Epicurean 2-Piece Prep Series Set, NaturalA friend gave me a large one several years ago as a hostess gift. I used it EVERY day until accidentally putting it

under the broiler! Delighted to find the two piece set on Amazon so convenient for food prep of all kinds. Also

casual to serve right on the patio. It is oven-friendly (NO broiler) I find myself reaching for it everyday!

I brought a black Epicurean cutting board and loved it so much that I went back and brought 2 more. Then one day, while cutting meat,I noticed black particles on my knife. When I checked my meat, it had black particles too. It turns out that it came from the cutting board! After consistent repeat incidents of this, I had to throw all 3 boards away because I wasn't sure what was getting into my food when I cut. Very expensive lesson since these aren't exactly cheap.

I usually prefer cutting surfaces such as the special glass ones, or the ultra-smooth plastic ones, because they're easy to clean and don't harbor bacteria. Downside is the glass ones have a clinky noise when you slice hard, and the plastic ones get rifted over time.. and they're both expensive.

The Epicurean is awesome because it doesn't harbor bacteria, doesn't rift the same way the plastic ones do, and they're wholly eco-friendly. They look great in any kitchen and they're lightweight.

PROS:

* Safe from harboring bacteria

* Easy to clean

* Lightweight

* Eco-friendly! Wholly recyclable, and made from recycled materials

* Amazon prime had them for less than any local store (by almost half)

CONS:

* None so far

Farberware Tristar 15-Piece Knife Set in Pine Block

Farberware Tristar 15-Piece Knife Set in Pine BlockThese are not Farberware, but Hoan -which makes cut-rate kitchen implements like knives, measuring cups etc. I sent these as a gift, and was hugely embarrassed when I showed up for dinner and found out I'd sent this junk. This is deceptive advertising at its worst -shame on you, Amazon!

I've only had these for a couple of weeks, but they seem pretty nice. The quality of the blades and handles seem exceptional for the price. They are all heavy, and well balanced. They are not extremely sharp, but you can sharpen all of them more yourself except for the bread knife and steak knives.

Just a note...these knives ARE made by Farberware, but you would never know it! It does NOT say Farberware anywhere on either the box, or the paperwork. It just says "TriStar" on the box, and the paperwork denotes that TriStar is a division of Lifetime Hoan. The only thing the knives say is "China" (on the blades). If giving these as a gift, you may want to take that into consideration. The block looks nice now, but I'm not sure how long it will hold up (because of moisture, etc. in kitchen) ... because it is only cheap pine.

Definitely not a Farberware. A few knives aren't even sharp and steel quality is very poor. I will make a use of steak knives, they seem to do their job... One of the big knives is the worst, because the blade is heavier then the handle, so it's hard to use it safely.

This set is much worse quality than a couple knives I bought at "Conway" store a few years ago. This should give you an idea not to buy it. Add a little more money and buy something much better. Do not buy it as a gift!

Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-Inch

Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-InchI own Kyocera ceramic knives and other Shun knives so I'm used to quality knives in general. This knife has exceeded my expectations in every way: it's balanced, beautifully finished, it can handle any loaf size with its long and sturdy blade, it glides through soft and hard breads with ease allowing me to cut almost transparently thin slices. This is a wonderful knife worthy of the high price you pay.

I purchased this after reading, looking, and thinking a lot. This is a very nice knife. Mine is much more polished than the one in the photo, so it doesn't look as rugged, especially since the hammer marks are all polished, though still present. Anyway, it's smooth to the touch everywhere but the cutting edge of the blade. And the blade is super thin at the cutting edge. Goes through bread with very little work and cuts the straightest pieces I've ever made. Used it to carve a whole chicken the other night... it would be perfect for thanksgiving! I've used cutco for a while and I believe that this will hold an edge better than cutco's french chef knife, mainly because it is thinner at the edge. Not sure about longevity, but if I take care of this I think it will last a really, really long time. Also, as for the metal work in the blade... most of the knives out there ($75 and up) will last a life time with a bit of care (shun, wustof, cutco).

Our ability to make steel really hard, or really soft, at will makes creating blades like this a lot cheaper and more consistent than 100 years ago. I looked around and most of the serious cutlery is running around 58+ rockwell, which is pretty darn hard when it comes to it. So what I wanted was a beautiful knife to look at, hold, and use for a long time. This particular series of blades fit the bill because they have that hard cutting core and a softer wrapping welded to that core, and they reveal the core by grinding. That makes each knife unique, very well made, and for $200 (after taxes and shipping it's a lot, but it gives good incentive to take good care of it) I'm only purchasing ONE knife like this in my life time (assuming all goes well).

I'd like to purchase more of the series as the need arises. Oh, yeah, I do really like to get this one out!

BOTTOM LINE

Shun Premier Knives are made with the same technique as traditional samurai swords. After months of moderate use on the toughest items, my Shun Premier knives haven't dulled, chipped, scratched, or otherwise marred their initial perfect finish. I know what I want daily in the kitchen and by my side in the Zombie apocalypse. However, consider looking for a better price elsewhere.

SHARPNESS AND STRENGTH

I have used other Shun Premier knives for cutting through the toughest things, like pineapple. The outside of a pineapple is as hard as wood, and my Santoku does it with only gentle application of force no sawing required. After months of use on only the tough stuff (I use different knives for for different things), this knife still hasn't dulled noticeably. Notice, this knife is for bread, but I mention the pineapple as an example of how sharp Shun knives are generally.

BEAUTY

This knife is a thing of beauty it has a beautiful wooden finish on the handle, and the knife has this pretty blotted ink look, referred to in the description as Damascus. I love to show off my $160 knife to all of my friends.

SHARPENING

Shun allows you to sharpen their knives easily by sending it into a discounted, professional service center for professional sharpening and restoration. The price is cheap (25% off of $3 per inch of sharpening). Just google "Shun Sharpening."

I won't risk sharpening my knife at home because I don't know how to properly use a whetstone. I have a Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Sharp Duo Knife Sharpener for use on my cheaper knives, but the instructions on the Shun recommend you don't use that kind of sharpener, since this knife is sharpened to a different degree than European knives.

PRICE

Surprisingly, the price on Amazon is not the best price I've seen for the blade. You may want to check your local high-end home-goods or kitchen-goods store like Crate and Barrel. Still, I would consider ordering from Amazon, simply because shipping to my door is so convenient.

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

I'm so impressed with my Shun Premier Line's ability to cut through poultry, ligaments and all, that I'm already planning on how to adapt my knife for the zombie apocalypse. Considering these things are made like samurai swords, I'm confident I'll be more well-equipped than my regular knife wielding buddies when we're out of bullets and the zombies are inevitably bearing down upon us.

Want Shun Premier Bread Knife, 9-Inch Discount?

Amazingly sharp and holds it edge due to the layered construction and the wave in the blade. If you own any shun knives then you know they make some of the best quality and most beautiful knives on the market. If you aren't then this is a great way to get your first one. They are not cheap but very well worth the money if you use knives in the kitchen and it doesn't hurt that they look like they are works of art.

Shun Higo Nokami Personal Folding Stainless-Steel Steak KnifeIt's a bit expensive, but it's also a one-of-a-kind knife. It comes with a very well made carrying box and a belt holder. It's a lockback design, when fully opened it locks into place with absolutely no play from front to back or side to side. It's good steel and comes with a razored edge, but it's not Shun's 32 layer "damascus" steel disappointing. Overall a great collector's piece.

I collect quality stainless knives.

This SHUN like all there knives, exudes quality.

And yes, I use it to cut my steak.

I feels like cutting with a scalpel.

Very sharp and nice to hold.

Sits well on the dinner plate.

Comes in a presentation case, w/ leather pouch.

VG-10 is one of the super stainless steels, keep it clean!

Not cheap, and you might have to wait for delivery.

One other reviewer stated that his Nokami was not a Shun and was made in the US. I just got my Shun Higo and it is a Shun and was manufactured in Japan.

Found knife to be very high quality, plenty sharp for all my needs during travel.

Seen review about being made in USA on blade. My blade shows made in Japan.

Have complete collection of Shun knives. My Shun Higo personal used most often.

What a pleasure to use a knife rather than a saw when dining out. I am amazed at what some very good and very expensive restaurants provide for cutting beef, lamb, pork, etc. By the time you apply enough pressure and take enough strokes to carve a bite size piece so much of the taste has been lost. Be prepared for some stares, but realize most of them are caused by envy.

Mcgowan Diamondstone 2-Stage Knife Sharpener

Mcgowan Diamondstone 2-Stage Knife SharpenerAt first this item would seem to be an ideal product. I own both models. I picked up the diamond model because the diamond grit promised a surface that would surely handle the tougher steels. And it did. But then comes the reason I would not recommend this particular tool. The company, apparently to save a dime in production and make a dollar in sales, opted to only put one stone on both sides of the white ceramic hone. Since the tool was designed to fit two stones one gets chatter when honing. Might not seem like much of a problem but when one is trying to get the ultimate edge this drives me nuts. The cheaper model works great for a quick sharpening of kitchen knives that have lost a bit of edge.

This is the best knife sharpener I have ever used, and that includes electric sharpeners. The large handel gives stability and safety while the wheels form an ever changing abrasive surface. This is the second of these sharpeners that I have purchased.

I had bought a few other sharpeners, all different attempts to accomplish the same general idea...getting my knives sharpened. So far i'd have to say that this product is better & easier than those others by a mile. It really doesn't take long to get the blade sharpened which is perfect.

I got this for my mom. I had boughten one just like this several years before and loved it and I still have it (same brand). She used it a few times and when I used it to sharpen her knifes one of the white sharpeners chipped off and is now useless. They must be making these cheaper because mine seems very durable.

Melange Wave Premium Porcelain Place Setting, Ivory

Melange Wave Premium Porcelain 40-Piece Place Setting, Ivory, Serving for 8I ordered this product when it was still labeled "temporarily out of stock" which was about a week ago. I received notification two days ago that Amazon was shipping it and it arrived today by noon (Saturday). My husband was more excited than I was to receive the package and carefully unpacked each dish from the cardboard packaging it arrived in. I am always a bit nervous to order something which is fragile, but EVERY piece arrived in tact, absolutely nothing broken and no missing pieces.

The design is definitely unique and will add some flair to our meals we have been using Ikea dishes for the past few years so these are more interesting and stylish. I especially like the size of all the pieces; the salad plate is a great size and I can see putting desserts or candy on them separately, as the size and shape will look great on the table at any time.

One note about the other product reviewer (who has not actually owned or purchased it, I believe, but was commenting from the picture) who said that it would not be possible to sip coffee from the cup without it spilling out, due to the straight line that is absolutely not the case! We put water in it and handed it to our 2 year old son to test to see if water would spill out the sides and it was fine. No, the shape of the cup is not a traditional 'round' shape, but 'square' shaped mugs have indeed been around awhile and several other brands and designs utilize this shape!

You can't beat the value, especially for 8 place settings. I'm very excited to use this during the holidays, along with my other holidays dishes. The white color will mix and match well with our other dinnerware. We just put them all through the dishwasher and they look great and are sitting in my cupboard, waiting for our next meal!

great value for the money! cups are a little small. looks great with charger under place settings. did fine in dishwasher.

This set has a "different" look and feel. The white porcelain is okay a few minor imperfections are obvious upon inspection. The pattern is unique. The sloped, square, drop edged design with slight bars on one edge make for an interesting look. The dinner plate is HUGE but does let all the pieces nest nicely as needed.

A good choice at a reasonable price.

This set is just absolutely lovely...I purposely bought the 5-piecer just to get a feel for whether I'd like this set 1st and let me tell you, I LOVE LOVE LOVVVVVVVVVVE IT...I now want the 20-piece set even though I'm single :-)...what I don't understand are the complaints about the square mug cause I'm simply not having any issues with it...for me it functions like a mug regardless of its shape...I however was concerned that it would be too small for me since I'm a big mug kinda girl...but honestly, I love its dainty size...I feel like I'm at a tea party sipping with my pinky out...if you're on the fence about this set, pull the trigger 2day...you won't be disappointed.

Everything about it is perfect. I love the size of the cups and how the set is so elegant. I had bought them for everyday use until they came and now it is my formal dinnerware. It's just beautiful.

Forschner Fibrox 7-pc. Cutlery Roll Knife Set

Forschner Fibrox 7-pc. Cutlery Roll Knife SetI bought this for culinary school last September so I've had lots of time to really evaluate the set.

chef knife I'm a 6' 200lb guy with big hands and I find this knife unwieldy. 10" is just too big for my taste and I think many people would find it clunky. 8" would have been a much better size for the majority of buyers. The quality of the knife is fine, the edge comes sharp, has decent curvature for chopping and steels well and is easy to resharpen on a stone.

paring knife too long for a paring knife. It extends an inch further than you want for most paring operations (peeling, turning). It's nearly big enough to be called a utility knife. Luckily I also bought the 3 piece Victorinox paring set, which has a shorter paring knife. The knife quality is fine again but why did they choose this length?

boning knife this would be classed as "stiff", which is great for stuff like beef, veal and lamb. For chicken it's ok. For fish it's fairly useless. You need flex to fillet and it's not long enough. Get a longer, full flex knife if you need to do fish. It sharpens well, holds an edge somewhat well. I'm not amazed by this knife for butchery work.

bread knife great edge for bread. This one would actually benefit from being 2" longer, whereas the chef/paring above are too long. A little more curvature would have been useful too. A pretty good knife for slicing bread, trimming sandwich crusts, etc.

carving pretty decent and reasonably good length. Longer would be better but it's acceptable. Good edge and good geometry for it's intended use.

steel works fine with these knives, a bit short especially for the carving knife. Watch it with the longer knives.

the roll it's light, the pockets for the knives are just ok. Paring knives fall out while some other knives are too hard to slip in. It has a few pockets inside for spoons, peeler, etc. You can't expect much for a roll that basically comes free with the knives.

So overall, chef and paring are overly long whereas the bread isn't long enough. The carver is acceptable, the boning knife is maybe too stiff for broad use. A semi-stiff would be a good compromise since most people don't need a full stiff boning for beef but do need some flex for chicken and fish.

The knife quality is excellent for the money, some of the knife selection is questionable. If you are comfortable choosing each knife I would suggest that instead.

This is a great set of kitchen knives at the price. Forschner Fibrox knives have been top-rated by a lot of different groups, including Cook's Illustrated; I liked them even before I knew that, just because of the "Victorinox" stamp on the blades, just like my childhood Swiss Army Knives.

These knives handle beautifully and cut amazingly well; I've bought five or six of the "paring' knife in this set over the years (my dog likes to chew the handles up, for some reason). When I wanted to upgrade to a full set of kitchen knives and get a honing steel, I got this set, and it was a perfect purchase: the boning knife made dismembering my first whole chicken an almost comically easy process (although the directions in the Joy of Cooking helped too).

The knives are light and somewhat flexible, and they're made with stamped rather than forged steel, but they still function excellently despite that -they give forged function at stamped price.

Drawbacks:

Some people may find the largest knife in this set, the 10" Chef's knife, a little big and a little lightweight for the size -a slightly heavier, slightly shorter knife might be a little bit more easy to use.

The set also comes with a portable "knife bag" which is probably useless unless you're part of a traveling chef's road show, but if you're using a magnetic knife strip or buying a non-traditional knife block (like the Kapoosh brand knifeblocks, though the 10" chef knife might not fit into those), and don't want the wooden knife block most other knife sets come with, this set gives a great selection of excellent-quality basic kitchen knives at what I found to be an unbeatable price. A perfect choice for a first knife set if you don't want a wooden knife block for whatever reason.

EDIT: After having used these knives for about a year, I have to say that everything above is still valid, but they do dull a little quickly -you might want to grab an electric knife sharpener to keep them well-honed. Alternatively, if you want to teach yourself how to hand-sharpen knives, these would probably be a good set to practice on.
