Lenox Holiday Gatherings Cake Server

Lenox Holiday Gatherings Cake ServerThis item was great for my Fall Wedding not the usual cake serving set and we will have no regrets using it after the wedding. They look very nice. I bought the Server and the Knife together neither were in perfect condition (a few dings glue that shouldn't be there...) but I'm not going to return it. I'd say if you are pickier, find a really good seller. The Items were great the condition not so great.

This is a beautiful piece to add to any serving collection. The only problem I seem to have with it, is that it tarnishes pretty easily unless it is kept wrapped in tissue paper.

Kalorik 200-Watt Electric Meat Slicer with 7.5" Blade, Silver

Kalorik 200-Watt Electric Meat Slicer with 7.5' Blade, SilverI have had this slicer for a month now and have made about ten pounds of perfectly sliced beef jerky. The machine is also great for cutting cheese slices which is about a 50% savings from the cost of pre-sliced cheese. We also used it to slice lunch meats like ham and roast beef in super thin portions. This appears to be the biggest money saver as a pound of roast beef slices can easily cost from $6-$10 a pound in the deli, I am able to slice my own roast(or ham)for less than $3 a pound,

This very powerful machine disassembles easily for cleaning. My kitchen cabinets are full of gadgets that my wife and I never use but this one has changed the way eat and shop.

arrived quickly,as promised. Not what I expected for the price.Thought it was affordable enough, but well-built enough, that I couldn't complain b/c it would "get the job done".Very pleasantly surprised. This slicer is AWESOME.Looks and runs like a commercial food slicer.Effortless to slice any foods.Very easy to use and clean. All metal parts.I'm very satisfied with my purchase. What a STEAL.Purchased another for my mother.

I bought the meat slicer for a christmas present for my husband and after we both have used it for slicing several different thing's, we both love it. It slice's just as it should, easy to clean and handle. We found the power is good, and is able to slice through meat, cheese, pickles, bread or whatever else you could put in it. We would suggest this product to anyone.

When the Kalorik slicer arrived we just happened to have finished cooling a fresh loaf of bread and a smoked corned beef brisket. We set the dial for 1/2" and quickly sliced the loaf into perfectly equal slices in about 3 minutes. We moved on to slice the cold brisket at a 1/16" slice and were absolutely astonished at the speed and uniformity of the slices (not to mention how the thin slice enhanced the smoked flavor of the meat). A few notes...the manual fails to give the specific number of "usage minutes" before allowing the motor to cool. (It directs you to look at the label on the bottom of the slicer which is a little messy if you forgot to look before beginning.) FYI, the maximum usage minutes is 10. Also, another point I missed regards where the sliced food will drop...I fixed a lovely little landing strip in front of the machine...unfortunately, the slices dropped out the back. All in all, a great product for the price.

Want Kalorik 200-Watt Electric Meat Slicer with 7.5" Blade, Silver Discount?

Good Product. Good Price. Cleans easier than others since sliding bottom tray also rotates away from blade for access. CAUTION: The documentation does not specify that the screw holind on the blade is a left hand thread. Also the plastic peice behind the blade is hard to keep in place when putting the blade back on. I needed to lay the unit down so the blade could be laid in place horizontaly. The pusher to hold the meat in place is also plastic (I wish it were metal). I would recommend this product.

Wusthof Gourmet 6-Inch Sandwich Knife

Wusthof Gourmet 6-Inch Sandwich KnifeDo not buy this knife at full price. If this retailed for $54 on Amazon the price was inflated. The knife is thinner and quite lightweight compared to the other Wusthof knives I own, without the flared bolster that is usually between the blade and the tang on a Wusthof knife which gives the blade its weight and heft. The tang is a full tang from end to end, but not top to bottom in the handle. The Gourmet line looks as if as if it were stamped out of a sheet of metal and sharpened. I was at an upscale kitchen store today and they had this style of knife from a higher-end Wusthof line full price for only $44.95, with a flared bolster and full tang. I got this knife on sale but by no means did I get a good deal.

Arthur Court Grape Cheese Knife with 7-Inch Round White Marble Cheese Board

Arthur Court Grape Cheese Knife with 7-Inch Round White Marble Cheese BoardThis cheese board is so pretty and it serves its purpose. I love it so much. It looks beautiful on my kicthen counter. I dont even want to use it. I just want to keep it as a show case.

I wanted a smooth, round marble cheese board to fit inside a round, domed cut-glass tray (I keep cheese, crackers, and fruit on my kitchen table), finding this product also came with a lovely Arthur Court designed cheese knife (conveniently matches with a few other Arthur Court items I own). This 7-inch marble cheese board perfectly fit within my dome, leaving a wide enough area around its perimeter for arranging fruit and crackers under glass as well. I like that this board is slightly raised on small legs, keeping the food items more separated. While I will employ this cheese board for everyday use, it will also be great for entertaining guests and for use at holiday get togethers/dinners/parties, etc. This lovely and practical cheese board and knife set would also make a wonderfully thoughtful gift.

I will start with the best part of this set...the marble cheeseboard. It is roughly 7 inches across and about 1/8 of a inch thick. The coloring of the marble is stunning. The one I got has no grey in it (the picture description shows some grey streaks), mine is white in color only with glistening irridescent flakes in it that shine like diamonds. It is really pretty. On the bottom of the cheeseboard are three black rubber stoppers to hold up and keep it from scraching surfaces. The included knife has a total length of 7 inches with just under 3 of those inches being made up of the blade. The blade is stamped stainless steel. The handle of the knife is quite pretty and detailed. The grape bundles on this look realistic. The only issue I have is that the knife handle feels very light. It just does not have the heft and weight that most other Arthur Court pieces have. I am not sure if it is hollow or what. It also seems that the joint where the blade goes into the handle is a little loose. I just hope that it lasts as long as the other pieces I have from this collection. Other than that this is a great set and gives an elegant look to your decor.

J.A. Henckels 10-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel

J.A. Henckels 10-Inch Diamond Sharpening SteelIs with a diamond steel.

Note that diamond steel doesn't actually fully sharpen the blade (nice blades anyway).

Your not going to get a finely sharpened and perfectly honed blade unless you take it to a professional who can grind the steel.

With cheaper blades you may actually get a good edge out of a sharpening steel because the diamond grit gives it the ability to grind an edge.

But with your nicer knives these simply straighten any minor nicks and hone the existing edge. If you really wanted to try sharpening a dull edge with a steel, you'd be at it for a long time and whining about sore hands before you got a nice edge.

Anyone who's ever run the gamut of electrics, oiled stones and numerous other crafty looking sharpeners will tell you that, ultimately a nice diamond steel is all you need.

Cheap knives and finer knives will both come out well polished after a few passes with this steel. It's not as long as some of the restaurant quality sharpeners I've used but it has a nice shape, more flat with a than standard round.

It also has a very fine dust that hones the blade well.

I took this to a set of cheap steak knives my fiance had when we met and they came out razor sharp after a few passes, of course that edge will only last a few cuts with such cheap steel and they still have the larger nicks they've recieved over the years, but it's nice to be able to get them sharp on the fly.

After that I pulled out a decent set of nicer knives (not Wustof quality but nice) I've had in a drawer for about a year now (not sharpened since I bought them), after about 30 seconds of swiping I had almost the original edge back and was slicing paper thin tomatoes. This was after they could just about mash a potato with the sharp edge.

No question that a good blade makes cooking and eating a lot more enjoyable.

Before you buy a pricey electric or some fancy stone set, give a traditional, diamond hand held a try. This one has turned out to work just fine. And I'll bet you'll be pleasantly suprised with your results.

Any diamond steel will do, there's really not a huge difference between their performance other than the shape and size. Some are poor quality and will wear out quickly, mostly in the handle, but, in my experience, they're usually cheaper and easier to replace.

Look for fine dust or grid to get a nice hone.

This one happens to be a good quality and has a great shape.

Seems like it'll last a long time.

I probably dont have to tell you this but since it doesn't come with a manual or any paperwork at all, dont put it in the dishwasher if you want it to last. Wipe it down with a wet cloth if it gets dirty.

Treat it the same way you treat your nice knives and it'll last longer.

Good buy.

We just received this today and my husband of one month has proceeded to put a very sharp edge back on each knife in our Henckels knife set. The reason for four stars instead of five? When it arrived, the sharpener was not round, as I expected, but a two-sided oval sharpener. Although it is very easy to use and does a great job, it arrived with no directions. For someone who has never used this type of sharpener before they may not find it as easy to use. But for those of you (like my husband) would say "All I care about is that it sharpens the knives and it does a great job." (A direct quote from one who prides himself on putting a good edge on our knives. As a matter of fact he is scouring the neighborhood looking for more knives to sharpen.)

I am very pleased with the results of this diamond steel. It sharpens all our kitchen knives, big and small. I was a bit disappointed with Amazon's package. It is completely shrink-wrapped, bare steel, with no manufacturer's package or warranty paper, nothing! However, this is a fine product. It took me less than 2 minutes to sharpen a knife no kidding.

Most of us know the importance of sharp knives for proper food preparation and gracious serving. Of course, I had to learn the hard way by mashing a tomato instead of chopping it, by "sawing" a roast rather than slicing it, and by cutting and pulling off a plump roast turkey leg rather than carving it. Those are just a few of the reasons I'm such a fan of my Henckels Sharpening Steel.

After trying both a stone and steel, the steel is my favorite for ease of use and appearance. This steel is not only utilitarian but handsome with a ribbed handle that's easy to hold and silvertone handle guard and hanging ring.

First off, a good way to test whether or not your knives are sharp is to hold a piece of paper by the top corner and then attempt to "slice" it. If knives won't do this head for the steel! You'll be amazed sometimes it takes only a few strokes on the steel to make your knife sharp, sharper, then sharpest.

Remember to place the metal end of the steel on a sturdy surface, such as a butcher block table or cutting board then position the base of the blade on the steel and begin.

This Henckels sharpening steel is certainly a cut above any other.

Want J.A. Henckels 10-Inch Diamond Sharpening Steel Discount?

I bought two five star Henckels knives: chef and paring as my first top quality knives. I also got this steel to sharpen my other knives. Like most new knives, the Henckels were ground to an edge, but weren't sharp from base to tip. The steel sharpened them up beautifully in about five swipes on each side. I've used stones, various types of sharpeners, and an electric sharpener in the past with somewhat positive results. But this steel sharpens as well as hones or unfolds the edge, despite what they say about steels only unfolding and not really sharpening knives.

I've used it on some medium quality Chicago knives and older high carbon steel and even some cheapo stainless steel knives. It sharpened them all up beautifully, though the cheaper knives may not hold their edge very long. I love my new Henckels knives, but I'm beginning to wonder if you even need to buy high quality expensive knives or just a high quality sharpening tool like this one.

Kitchenaid Sandwich Spreader - Red

Kitchenaid Sandwich Spreader - RedI purchased this hoping it would be a "flexible" style spreader for bagels. I.e. so it would glide over the bread more smoothly. This is pretty much a solid steel knife and does not flex at all. A bit disappointing. Otherwise it does the job. I suspect a cheaper model would have spread / flexed better.

The case and size make it an excellent "tool" to carry with. Along with its convenience, it works well and gets the job done. Great purchase.

I've been searching for an affordable paring knife for a while now as the one sitting in my chopping block has seen sharper days. I was immediately blown away by this knife even though I was a little skeptical because it's a slightly smaller than the one I currently use. Don't be fooled by the size because I have used it for everything recently and proved especially useful for peeling all the delicious fruits and veggies I've picked up over the past few weeks. The knife wipes clean with a quick little scrub or can even be thrown in the dishwasher without losing its bright yellow color!

This little paring and peeling knife has it all, great looks and great performance. It's hard to believe that something this great looking is holding up under some pretty difficult conditions. I cook quite a bit and it is as sharp as the day I bought it. I am also impressed that the color hasn't scratched one bit through many cleanings in the dishwasher. The handle is comfortable and makes peeling any fruit or vegetable a breeze. The color works great for brightening up a kitchen and I plan on buying several more in different colors. I am also considering buying a set for my daughter who is getting married soon as it will make a great wedding gift. I would highly recommend this knife for anyone who loves to cook.

Le Creuset Stoneware Large Teapot with Stainless Steel Infuser, Fennel

Le Creuset Stoneware Large Teapot with Stainless Steel Infuser, FennelI absolutely love the color and style of this teapot. I have only had it a couple of months but we use it almost every single day and it has held up very well. I especially love that it has an insert for loose tea. We have put the tea pot in the top rack of the dishwasher with no issues. I always wash the insert by hand since it seems pretty delicate. My only complaint is that it drips pretty badly when the tea is poured. I am not sure if the top just doesn't seal well or what. I have had this problem with many teapots and as a result I do not think this issue is unique to this particular item. Overall I would recommend this beautiful piece.

Egg Topper Cutter Clipper Stainless Kitchen Gadget

Egg Topper Cutter Clipper Stainless Kitchen GadgetI really enjoy soft-boiled eggs. For me it evokes a simpler time when men sat at the breakfast table in their suits & ties and delicately dipped toast into the soft, yellow center of a perfectly made soft-boiled egg. This was before the time when eating an Egg McSomething on the run became popular. Maybe I only remember this from watching Cary Grant in movies of the 40's, but to me it represents more than a simple dish. A soft-boiled egg is a celebration of eating as an art form.

It is entirely possible to remove the top of a soft-boiled egg with a knife and I have done this many times. However, this gadget allows me to prepare my egg quickly and consistently. Some of the time the top portion of the egg comes off with the shell, other times (as in this video) I need to remove the top of the egg with a knife in order to show off the golden liquid center. I hope that you enjoy this short, informal, video review.

The clipper slides up the egg when you're trying to snip. It occasionally crushes an egg rather than snipping the top. While hand washing water necessarily gets inside the mechanism, but doesn't easily come out so it rusts. It's a fairly worthless contraption. A sharp whack with a dull knife blade works more quickly, efficiently and doesn't take up additional room in the utensil drawer.

Buy Egg Topper Cutter Clipper Stainless Kitchen Gadget Now

I gave this item a try in spite of the feedback from others, stating that it only works on smaller eggs. All true it barely nips the top off a large egg. The opening is so small there is not enough room to insert the spoon. Worse, the blades rusted within a couple of hours from the small amount of moisture they contacted in the egg. If you get a little egg yolk on the blades and it gets inside, there's no way to get into the enclosed part to clean it and if soaked it will rust. There is no way to dry the inside of the enclosed area (maybe with a blow dryer?). Great concept but the design needs some work. The blades should be made of a rust-free material and you can't tell if you've gotten it really clean. I think it could be a health risk.

This egg topper works as well as (well, so far, even better than) I expected it to from the other reviews. As long as you firmly insert the egg into the topper, it does a great job piercing the shell. In almost every case, the tops have been easy to remove, and the shells were undamaged.

I primarily use this on raw eggs; I sometimes bake custards or poach egg yolks in the shell when hosting a dinner party. It makes for presentation that is fun, easy to do, and memorable.

If you're worried that you need the more expensive, French-style egg topper for a raw egg, don't be. This does the job, at a reasonable price. And to top it off (okay, I couldn't resist) it works better for soft-poached eggs than the more expensive egg toppers I've tried.

I recommend this without hesitation.

Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener

Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors SharpenerWhen it comes to sharpening knives, I must admit that it's not one of my best talents... period.

I've tried sharpening kitchen knives, Swiss Army knives and the blades on multi-tools for years with sharpening steel implements and stones, and have had very inconsistent results with each of them, no matter how many different techniques that I've used. Then a few years back a friend introduced me to the very basic yellow handled Smith Abrasives Jiffy Sharpener, and for the first time I was able to put a reasonable cutting edge on my kitchen knives and scissors. Within 30 seconds I was sold, and that weekend bought my first one. The key to this tool is that it provided a proper sharpening angle on a blade every time.

If this sounds like a blurb for some "As Seen On TV" spot, it's not meant to. I'm posting this because there have to be others out there who have had similar problems trying to find a no-hassle solution to this household and handyman dilema.

The newer, more refined version of the original is the Smith's Abrasive V-Slot 10 Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener, and it does exactly the same thing as the original version, but adds a rubberized handle for better control and comfort. It also adds non-slip rubber feet for stability.

Both of these devices will basicly put a good, sharp edge onto almost any blade, and will do so by passing the blade through the "V" in the head, which allows the replaceable tungsten carbide cutters to remove metal from the blade. Do this three or four times and you'll feel less resistance, then your blade is sharp.

The downside to all of this is that you're not really honing the blade, which is the correct way to treat it. You're removing metal from the blade, and if you overdo it, you can wear out a good knife blade before its time, so use it judiciously if you have good knives. If you have a small sharpening stone, such as the Smith's Arkansas Stone, you can "touch up" the blade and put a shiny chef's edge on the blade as a final step.

If your knives are really dull, these devices will do a nice job of reshaping the blade edge so that they're serviceable again, and they'll do it in just a few seconds. But as with all new implements,

be sure to RTFM... (Read The Flaming Manual) before you proceed.

These implements really shine when it comes to sharpening scissors that have become dull and/or have lost their edge, and both versions can be used with right or left-handed scissors. The scissors sharpener is located in the handle, and employs a floating sharpening rod thast will put the correct edge back on almost any scissors by drawing them through this section as listed in the instructions.

Pros:

* Does the job of sharpening your blades very quickly.

* Reasonably priced solution that does its job well.

* Restores the edge to worn out blades

* Does a great job sharpening scissors.

Cons:

* Removes more metal from a blade than a stone or steel.

If your knives or scissors have become dull with use, then either of these sharpeners from Smith's will do the job. For those unlike me who are adept at using a conventional sharpening steel to hone a fine professional edge to a knife blade, you might look for the Smith's Abrasive Standard Sharpening Steel, a 9-inch version of a conventional sharpening steel with an oversized hand guard and a hang ring.

Should your sharpening needs be more geared to items like Swiss Army knives or multi-tools from Gerber, Leatherman or Victorinox, then the Gerber DF6 Compact Sharpener might be a good alternative. This one is also easy to use, and features perfect 30 degree edges quickly and easily every time.

It's been said many times that the most dangerous knife is the one that's not sharp. Look at the specs for each of these and see which fits your needs best. The top two from Smith's are excellent choices if you find sharpening your knives to be a challenge. Whichever one of these 5-star implements you choose, remember to read the instructions carefully before use... and think sharp!

Who doesn't wish their scissors were sharper? This is the fix. Now all my scissors are sharp, and will remain so.

GOOD POINTS:

-The angle of the sharpening stone to the scissors blade is fixed, so you never make a mistake.

-The stone is pretty good, so you gently draw the scissors over it repeatedly and get great results.

-You can open them wide to get almost all the way to the hinge, and by slightly compressing them, you can sharpen both blades evenly.

DRAWBACKS:

-You can't remove the stone, so as it wears, the tool becomes useless. But I may not live that long, so it's a small problem. Plus, the thing's only, like, 6 or 7 bucks. Still, it would be nice if the stone slot were capped by, say, a setscrew, so you could change stones.

-This is built for a right-hander sharpening right-hand scissors, or vice-versa. It's just a bit klutzy when your preferred hand does not match the parity of the scissors. But this is also minor.

I looked at 20 different sharpeners. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, this rocks! [even on paper! rocks/scissors/paper :-) ]

Buy Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener Now

Great product for everyday use. Not a good recomendation for an expensive artisanal knife which you do not remove metal but just align the edge, but it definetely works for cheap stainless knives and scissors. I can use that paper cutters, too. I revived single use knives and almost-dumped out scissors, and saved my money. I'm very happy with the results.

I am a mechanical engineer. I looked at a bunch of units online. The quality of the unit was good for the price and the instruction were easy to read and follow.

I liked one of the reviews here noting this class of sharpener is not re-edging but honing. That explained a bunch of what was going on with these vs the more expensive grinders. I think it is worth noting that you can only grind so many times before wearing out the blade (while Honing can be done much more often), and that Honing would appear to not work on a notched blade.

Anyway I tried these on some short bladed pruners and a some expensive sewing scissors. The wife is very happy with both results and pronounced them both "much better". Anechdotal evidence at best, but if she's happy, I'm happy.

The Edgeware V-slot sharpener puts a decent edge on dull blades.

It's difficult to add more to my review, because my only other

experience is with electric sharpeners. As a manual sharpener,

the product does a pretty good job. It's a real bargain for the

price, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple,

easy-to-use manual sharpener.

Unlike other slicers with a similar crescent-shaped design, the full blade design of this rocker cuts pizza without destroying the surface of even the most topping-heavy pizza. I particularly appreciate the handles on this rocker-knife; these are well-placed for faster, stronger cuts across the pizza. I have used this on scores of homemade pizzas without a single regret.

Kyocera 5-1/2-Inch Santoku Knife and Adjustable Slicer Set

Kyocera Revolution Series 5-1/2-Inch Santoku Knife and Adjustable Slicer Set, BlackI picked up one of these Kyocera slicers/mandolins a few months ago and I LOVE IT. I've only used it twice: once for making a scalloped potatoes dish for Christmas and last week for slicing veggies for fajitas, and I really liked the results. I find the easiest way to use this is to put a bowl on the counter or in the sink, brace the mandolin against your stomach with your off-hand holding the back of the slicer, and slice away. When I did the potatoes, I had a bowl in the sink with water in it, so the sliced potatoes went straight in to it and never had a chance to oxidize and brown. For the fajitas, I did an onion and three bell peppers, and the uniformity of the slice thickness was really great.

The mandolin is adjustable for cut thickness through a four-sided bar on the back, I believe the thickest slice is up to 3 mm which has been a very good thickness for what I've been using it for.

I would strongly suggest NOT using the included guard/guide for your own safety. Buy yourself a cut-resistant glove or two instead, such as http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_19?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=cut-resistant+glove&x=0&y=0&sprefix=cut-resistant+glove, this is a trick that I picked up from watching Good Eats and I heartily recommend it. I bought one when I bought my mandolin, and having the ability to properly and securely grip the item being sliced is a big bonus. However, the one that I bought is kind of disappointing, and after two uses, has already worn through in three places and will have to be replaced soon. It's a Microplane glove, I'm not sure which model, but I'll be trying a different brand.

I have no comment on the knife as the store from which I bought it sold the mandolin by itself.

This knife is wonderful. The slicer, I'm still not sure how to adjust it, but it makes a fairly good slice. Maybe I need to look on the internet to get some help with that. I love that they will resharpen the knives if you send them in later. Just be careful not to drop as I've heard they can break.

I love these ceramic knives. I've been using them for nearly 20 years and just love the way the blade holds an edge, as long as you avoid chipping it. I was a little leery of the slicer due to reviews, but if used properly the mandolin slicer is a dream especially if enjoy whipping out some potato chips with the kids once in a while. No brute force is required, in fact, if you push too hard it will flex the deck of the slicer and jam it up on the return. Ideally, a light touch is all you need and don't push your luck trying to get that last slice. I do use flimsy holder handle if I can find it for the last several runs. It's not worth the cut!

I mostly bought this to replace my knife. I had the same knife for over 1 year (different color) that I broke. I was cutting open an uncooked acorn squash and the knife got stuck near the stem. I tried to removed it... and it was when I carelessly started to pry the knife out that the knife broke. Anyway, that was really my fault.

The good thing is that, despite breaking, I replaced the knife with the same knife. I love this knife. It is indeed very sharp, which means I pay attention while using it. I watch my fingers! I used my old knife exclusively for over 1 year and never sharpened it. This new one is of the same quality. I expect it to continue my love affair with this knife (really, it makes chopping fun). The knife gets 5 stars, but....

The adjustable slicer was very underwhelming. The plastic frame seems very flimsy, even though the blade is sharp. The adjustment mechanism is a plastic cube that you rotate. I do not have much confidence in that either. I have only sliced carrots successfully with it. I tried with raw beets, but then gave up and sliced them with the knife instead.

Anyway, this set cost less than what I paid for the knife alone, so I am not griping at all. My recommendation is to just buy the knife alone on Amazon... and if you need a slicer, go with a Japanese Slicer instead. They are built better.

The slicer is the best part of this. Also note that it is not the double edge one as shown in the video. Only their non adjustable ones are double edge. Still the slicer goes through veggies like crazy always smooth cuts just be careful not to run them down to fast and cut yourself. I have not yet but it may happen in the future if im not careful.

The knife is good. It is sharp enough to shave hair off my arm. Its very light but solid feeling. Very easy to clean with just soap and water. Make sure you don't put this in a sink with the rest of the dishes it may get broken against plates or cups. Also you might get cut pretty badly if you just brush up against it. I will update this when the blade starts to get dull whenever that may be.

UPDATE. Chipped the slicer blade had it less than 24 hours. Chipped it with the handguard. Hopefully the small very sharp piece is in the plastic and not in my food.

Shun Kaji Fusion 8-Inch Chef's Knife

Shun Kaji Fusion 8-Inch Chef's KnifeThis knife was a birthday gift from my husband who tends to buy things because they look "cool" and not necessarily because they are the best at what they do. Let's just say I opened this knife up and thought, "HOLY COW, Now that's a knife!"

Here are my observations after several months of use:

The substantial blade is razor sharp-and has stayed that way. It slices through tomatoes and london broil like a hot blade through butter-no "sawing" motion required. I typically have a knife for each job around the kitchen, but this knife does the job of several, quite easily.

I was initially surprised how well the handle fit in my hand. The handle has grooves where you fingers rest, and I thought that perhaps they would feel oddly placed, as my hands are quite small. This wasn't a problem... and the knife felt very natural.

I did a little research, and read that the design of this handle is unique in that it places your hand in "the perfect position in relation to the blade for less effort and fatigue." Hmmm... I don't know if I have ever felt "fatigue" while using my other knives, but I do see now how I was never holding the handle properly, forcing the knife with pressure to cut, chop and slice. Knife-science...who knew?!?!

I find that my other knives are getting little use in my kitchen. I reach for this knife again and again.

I'm hinting to my husband that another knife in this line would make a great Christmas gift.

Overall sharp blade, good heft and right size. If you take care of this knife it will last a lifetime.

Handle: I have small hands and honestly some knifes have such a long handle it feels a bit awkward. When I used this knife, I felt like Goldilocks, it was the right size. The handle has these grooves which helps with placement of your fingers, allowing you to cut with minimal effort. I was able to cut thin slices of salami without thought and no sawing motion. With my other chef's knife, I always had to concentrate on the right placement as it did not feel natural. No such worries with this one.

Blade: Aesthetic wise, I love the designlooks like it could have come right out of my Fable game. The blade is very sharp and it cut through the Thanksgiving ham as if it was butter with minimal sawing motion.

Weight: There is a good weight to the knife, heavy enough to be substantial but not so heavy that it is burdensome.

The knife is expensive but worth it because it is a great staple knife that will work for the majority of your needs in the kitchen.

I admit that I have a bit of a steel fetish which is limited by financial restraints. That being said, I took a chance and treated myself to the Shun Kaji Fusion. The shipping was quick and tonight I had an opportunity to use the knife to cut potatoes for home made french fries. I have used Wustoff knives for many years in the kitchen and have been satisfied. This however was a completely new cutting sensation. Very minimal pressure was required to glide through the russet potatoes and the pieces did not stick at all. I have larger hands (6'8") and the knife fit very well, my wife (5'2") tried the Shun and she was amazed at how balanced it was, which speaks to the manufacturing of the implement. Expensive...yes, but fit, form and finish are immaculate. If you want to cut a tree...a can and then have to slice a tomato perhaps not. If you want a knife that will be a cherished, beyond surgically sharp and designed to last generations, look no further.

I bought this on a lightning deal, and was a bit hesitant since the price was still much more than I ever thought I would spend on a knife! Let me tell you, I do not regret my purchase at all! This knife is wonderful! Its extremely sharp and the handle has a nice grip with grooves, so I dont ever feel like the knife will slip. Its a good weight, heavy enough to know its not something flimsy, but not overwhelming. I have owned one other Shun knife, and both are FANTASTIC!

Have had this for over a year and has stayed very sharp. It has a yearly "free" sharpening but I don't find that it needs it, especially since I am extra careful with it. Feels very stable with use. Had gotten a great lightning deal; might not have paid usual price for this handsome knife.

Shangarila Flatware, Pack of 1 Dozen Pieces

Shangarila Flatware, Pack of 1 Dozen Pieces - Dinner KnivesBy far worth the money. Extra heavy gauge steel, nearly unbendable handles. Suitable for serving ice cream, etc. Great smooth finish, smooth edges, near perfect product.

I read the reviews on these forks and ordered them anyway. These are really nice pieces. There are 12 in the package. They are heavy. The edges are smooth both on handle and prongs. I have ordered the dinner spoons which are hard to find on site but they exist, and I am also going to order the soup spoons. I was very pleasantly suprised by the quality of the flatware. Don't let the price fool you. They will be perfect for any table. I expecially liked ordering pieces I needed rather than sets with pieces I did not need.

I just wanted some everyday forks as they seem to disappear like socks in the dryer. So, I ordered 12 of these forks. For the price, I expected thin, lightweight stuff that I would not regret losing when they inevitably disappeared. But these forks were thick, very heavy and looked really expensive. So, I decided to complete the set and now all my everyday flatware matches! I don't know why it says 5 dozen in a pack because I ordered one pack and got one dozen.

good weight to it, not flimsy at all, held up well so far in the dishwasher. spoon size is great and not too small or too big.

I ordered the spoon set and they are fantastic. Some reviews mentioned the spoons are too big, but I find them the perfect size for cooking / having soup. The metal is thick and high quality, not the flimsy ones you would expect for the price. They are unaffected after multiple rounds in the dishwasher and shiny as ever. Highly recommended
