Montana Knife 7" Santoku Knife with White Poly Handles

Montana Knife 7' Santoku Knife with White Poly HandlesI have three of these knives. They work well, are easy to sharpen, and feel good in one's hand. They rust after a while, but for the price they are well worth it.

Suisin High-Carbon Steel Gyutou 8.2" (210 mm) - Right

Suisin High-Carbon Steel Gyutou 8.2' - RightThe knife is well balanced and easy to work with. It is light and is usually the first knife I choose when working in the kitchen. The steel holds it's edge very well. Because it's carbon steel the blade does not remain shiny. I have used the oil recommended, though. I have had an old carbon steel butcher's knife for a few decades, it is carbon steel also, but it has been one of the best knives I have used. This one is in the same mold.

Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer Set

Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer SetFinally a knife storage product for drawers that is both affordable and versatile. I wasn't certain that I would be able to make it fit my particular drawer size, but the interlocking tabs fit together to make any size you want. You can really adjust it to match exactly what you need. The knives store so well that I actually gained space in the drawer for other items, not to mention the counter space that is free of the big chunk of firewood that only worked for about ¼ of my knives. Norpro 1155 4-Piece Knife Organizer Set

Arrived promptly. Simple and well constructed. Pieces were longer than space we had allotted but very easily and cleanly cut with hand saw. I still must figure out best way to keep bar for slipping up and back now that I have decided where I like them placed. Will most likely use slim double-sided adhesive on the bottom. Also, some of my wider blades tilt up a bit, but this can be improved by spacing two pieces wider apart. Would definitely recommend. Has made drawer neater and safer, and made finding and accessing desired knife much faster and easier. Best of all, no clunky knife block cluttering up valuable counter space.

Not the prettiest knife holder out there, but allowed me to make my knife drawer much more organized and SAFER. Was able to consolidate knives that had been stored in other drawers. I highly recommend this product if you have a variety of knives of different lengths and styles, as the opposing blade orientation lets you fit them quite well.

Emerilware Forged Steel 11 Piece Cutlery Block Set

Emerilware Forged Steel 11 Piece Cutlery Block SetThis knife set looks fantastic and it seems to really have been designed by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse. The selection of knives is noteworthy as great because this set doesn't waste available slots with steak knives but rather it has a very nice assortment of different knives for everyday use in an active kitchen.

The overall quality is great so far the knives are definitely forged and not stamped so we do anticipate using this set for many years to come.

We got these knives through a groupon and am VERY pleased with them. We have a garden so we cut fresh tomatoes, squash, potatoes, and zucc daily it seems. We've had this set for about 5 months now and are buying a second set for close friends as a new home gift. Agree with other reviewer they didn't waste space for steak knives. We clean them by hand and dry them after each use. not a spot of rust, still very sharp. would buy again in a heartbeat!

Hagerty Zippered Holloware Bags

Hagerty 19500 15-by-15-inch Zippered Holloware Bag, BlueI must agree with the reviewer from Georgia. I purchased several Hagerty Zippered Bags from two different vendors here on Amazon.com. The first vendor sent my order for (4) 9"x12" bags and (4) 15"x15" bags; the second vendor (ordered several months later) sent my order for (1) 24"x30" bag. Both vendors, by the way, were excellent to deal with. All my silver was polished to it's best and placed into the bags and put away for long-term storage. (I am a retired butler to one of the country's great families. I know all about polishing silver and what is, and what is not, a good polish of this metal).

It was in June of this year that I received a notice from the second vendor regarding the large tray bag. She asked that I check the silver and notify her of the silver tray's condition. I took it out of storage, removed it from the bag and was amazed to find that the silver not only tarnished badly after less than two months, but that there was also a while chalky film covering most of the sterling tray. I called her immediately and reported what I had found. She explained that she had received the same replies from a couple of her customers. It was then I found out that Hagerty has suspended its USA production of the bags and has out-sourced them to China. What a surprise! The bags may look the same, but the quality of material and whatever tarnish retarding properties that may have been added to the material was very much lacking. It may, more importantly, not at all be safe for the silver (sterling or plate). She replaced the bag with one made in the USA. I had an unused boxed bag from the other set and checked the box for manufacture's origin. It was Made in China.

I immediately looked at all the silver in the other seven smaller bags and the same condition found on the tray was also on all the pieces comprising the large sterling tea set. Now I was horrified. I called the first vendor, explained the situation, but they were not able to replace the bags as the 90-day return period had expired. I was given the phone number to Hagerty to find a solution.

Unfortunately calling Hagerty is of no use to anyone. You will get the famous "menu" to select the person you want to contact. Only problem is that you aren't given any indication who or what this person is or does. I selected at random 3 different persons and left voice messages. There was never any response. After two weeks I sent an e-mail asking what solution could be arranged for replacement of these inferior bags. No response. The next week, I sent a not-so-nice e-mail outlining my very great displeasure with their product, but more importantly, their total lack of customer service. I even mentioned that I would write this review thinking they might not want unfavorable mention of this incident made public to such a large audience as is found on Amazon.com. My personal customer service intentions are always carried through to never less than satisfactory expectations. Hence, this review.

If you order these bags, I would be very careful to do so without first checking with the supplier/vendor about where the Hagerty bags are manufactured. On a side note consider this, too. I received the large replacement tray bag (Made in USA) and after a "down to the metal" polish, I put it into the bag. I checked the tray just a few days ago and noticed it was beginning to tarnish. So, what gives with the USA bags? Like the Georgia reviewer, I have used the same Hagerty bags for nearly 50 years without any issue. Now, these new bags don't seem to be any better, or more effective, than wrapping the silver in newspaper. I would avoid Hagerty altogether and make my own bags from yardage from Pacific Silver Cloth ... as I am now doing.

I bought several of these silversmith's cloth bags and found that they do not keep my sterling silver flatware nearly as tarnish free as my older bags that came with my silver. My older feltt bags came with the silver 35 yrs

ago and have kept the silver tarnish free. These newer Hagerty silversmith cloths do not.

This is a great product. It keeps your silver tarnish free so I don't have to spend time cleaning and polishing when I need to use the tray and I like the fact that the bag has a zippered closure.

Hagerty products have been around for over 100 years and continue to be one of the best buys I ever make when I have a piece of silver to store. It keeps me from not using my silver, by always keeping the items in the bags polished and rarely tarnishes if I get the item washed and replaced in the Hagerty bag right after use( don't let it sit around the house for a week or so!) My Grandmother and Mom used these bags; they are GREAT1

I'm really disappointed with my recent purchase. I just opened the bag to take out some silver and it's tarnished. Really a disappointment. I don't know if the bag was made in China as others have said, but I do know the product didn't work. I should return it. Very reluctant to buy more until they change manufacturers.

J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set with Bonus Cheese Knife

J.A. Henckels International Everedge 13-Piece Knife Set with Bonus Cheese KnifeWe purchased these knives...and think they've been worth every penny. They're sharp, comfortable to grip, aesthetically appealing, and come in a nice assortment. Certain knives like the Chef's knife and the table/steak knives have become the proverbial 'work horse' of the set while the tomato knife hasn't really seen the light of day since it left the box. The polypropylene handles are capable of withstanding high temperatures and, because of their nature, do not harbor bacteria like some sets that contain rivets or those with wooden handles.

While this is a great set, it is not a high-end set, so you may want to look elsewhere if that's what you're after. None of the knives have a full-tang (where the steel goes all the way through the handle) or rivets. The handles are plastic. Also, the steel is from Japan (if I'm not mistaken) instead of Germany and boy, do the Germans know how to make steel!

So, dear friends, if you're looking for a set that you can pass on to your children and your children's children then you should indeed move up the Henckels line or look into Cutco (my favorites) or another high-end set. If you're looking to buy a good, inexpensive set that looks great and is every bit as functional, then look no more!

Also, consider looking into a pair of kitchen shears... they're indespensible!

First, a caveat: These knives, while trash by Henckels' traditional standards, are still better than the huge majority of knives sold each year. They are not, however, comparable in any way to the "real" knives made by Henckels, Wusthof, or other top manufacturers.

Want performance from your knives? Here's what to look for:

(1) "Made in Germany." There's not much to say about this; the Germans make no compromises when it comes to making steel, and their manufacturing technology is among the finest as well. Ask your favorite surgeons where their scalpels come from; ask the most knowledgeable machinists you know where the tool bits they respect most are made; ask the best mechanics you know what "country of origin" is listed on the boxes containing the finest bearings. You'll get an occasional "Japan" in there -and the Japanese certainly deserve recognition, though they have yet to enter the cooking knife market in earnest -but Germany usually dominates.

(2) A name of distinction. It's true, there are many good knives made by lesser names, at lesser prices. The trick is, which ones? I have to tell you, I have been selecting knives for over 20 years, I use them every day and have studied their characteristics carefully, and I still am fooled sometimes by promising-looking knives with concealed but nonetheless tragic flaws. Make sure your brand is made by a manufacturer who stands behind their products, so you can exchange or return your knives if you are unhappy. It is YOUR satisfaction that matters, forget all the reviews written by "experts," how do they know what will make you happy?

(3) Buy knives whose handles fit your hand and whose weight distribution fits your strength and style. This might sound obvious, but most people skip it. There is no substitute for this point. My grandmother is a German native, my inspiration for entering the culinary profession, and one of the greatest geniuses of kitchen wizardry I have ever known. She also curses my beloved collection of mostly Henckels and Wusthof knives when she visits -despite her loyalty to all things German! -because nearly all the knives I've chosen fit my large masculine hands, not her dainty, nimble feminine ones. I would never dishonor her by saying she's wrong...and she means me no disrespect by saying my knives are lousy. They are...for her. Free wisdom, if you are tempted to discard Grandma's good advice, ask yourself: What's more malleable, a steel knife or my hand?

(4) Consider your use habits. Are you going to toss them in the dishwasher? Make sure your steel is as stainless as possible (not all "stainless" is equal, or even close, so do your homework). Are you the type who is disciplined about using a steel and skilled enough to do his/her own sharpening, or at least inclined towards this goal? (Most people, including the majority of culinary professionals, are not. I acquired the interest over time, but initially I was like most cooks, more interested in what a fine knife could do than in what made it capable of doing.) Stay away from "stay sharp" knives, the hardness of the steel will only frustrate you -and you probably know this already. Are you going to use them with wet hands? Share them with youngsters? Display them as a showpiece for visitors? All these things factor into your decision, be honest with yourself about what you want and you'll have a better chance of getting what you need.

(5) Buy fewer fine knives rather than many lesser ones. Most people don't know what the various knives are actually intended for; even fewer understand that the intended uses are just guidelines, and that individual skill and preference will sometimes make selection different than conventional wisdom would suggest. More knives means more maintenance; it doesn't necessarily mean more versatility. I once had a young cooking student who stubbornly stuck to a single small knife for everything, a habit I tried to dissuade him of until I noticed that he could cut nearly everything better with that one little knife than any of the other students -or, sadly, his instructor -could with ANY knife! He explained that he had inherited his love of whittling with a pocket-sized knife from his deceased father, and spent nearly all his time creating things out of wood as his father had taught him. Well, no wonder! This young man still found a couple of tools he had use for -a cleaver and fillet knife among them -but the huge sets of cutlery would not have improved him one bit. You may be a bit more diverse but you're probably not infinitely wealthy; given constrained funds, you would be smart to concentrate them where they can do you the most good.

Enjoy!

Several years ago, I purchased this set as a housewarming gift for a friend, who raved about them so much that I ended up buying a set for myself. As an impoverished college student at the time, my selection really came down to the price being right. Fortunately, the knives were right, too. I still use these knives every day, 4.5 years later, often mistreating them, with no ill effects. Now that I'm ready to move on to one of the premiere lines, I will hand these down to a younger sibling, as they still have numerous years of use left in them.

Look, just before these I went to Williams-Sonoma & bought a $400 set of Wuster (or however they spell it) knives. When I saw these, there were more included with the set & for a fraction of a fraction of the price! $29??? Are you kidding me? (or was it $39) Who cares!!!! I bought these right away. It's been 6+ months now & they are GREAT! Anyone shooting these down are nothing more than some kitchen utensil snobs who have nothing better to do with their money. I don't need $400 knives. If I buy these & they only last me 2-3 years... I STILL can't go wrong for the quality & price!

I suggest you read the negative reviews on this product & notice how "stuck up" they sound. Good God, they're $30 knives you can't go wrong.

Years ago, I had started a Henkels 4 Star collection, and found joy in using them. They are the kind of item that you sharpen, polish, and use caringly, the way you would treat something you plan on using for a lifetime. Well I don't live alone, and when they started getting sharpened on the face as well as the edge, I decided it was time to save them for special uses, rather than everyday. So when I saw these Henkels, especially at the Amazon.com sale price, I decided to give them a try. Glad I did. Since they don't need to be sharpened, I didn't have to worry about someone scarring the face with a sharpener. They are very sharp. They create their sharpeness with a minutely serrated edge. You have to be careful when cleaning these knives, because it is possible to cut yourself, when scrubbing along the very side edge of the blade, as well as the actual cutting edge. The serrations only go up a minute amount, but enough to cut yourself along the side of the blade. A little care when cleaning, to use a sponge or whatever, and avoid direct contact with your skin.

The solid wood holder is very nice. The Henkel logo emblazoned on the front is a nice touch for your kitchen.

I don't really have anything negative to say about these knives at all. They are sharp. The selection suits most every need. You can use them and not have to worry about them. They are durable. I am not a knife expert, but I understand that these are stamped, instead of forged and ground like their more expensive sets. Notwithstanding, they look good, cut great, and have sufficient durability to them to be used for a very long time.

I bought them when they were listed at the better price, and at that number, it pays to get a set just to keep as a gift.

Definitely a 5 star product considering the quality and the price. Hope this helps.

Wusthof Gourmet 5-1/2-Inch Tomato Knife

Wusthof Gourmet 5-1/2-Inch Tomato KnifeI recently found a replacement on Amazon.com for my 10 yr old overused and often re-sharpened Wusthof Gourmet tomato knife. I was amazed at the low price of $29 when this knife in retail stores has been on sale for $55 or $60. Now I know why. The blade itself is the same as the original blade, but the handle is just a groved piece of plastic or composite with rivets holding the flat blade in place-the same a any other cheap knife found at discount stores. I think I bought a $29 knife for $29not the great deal I thought it was and it doesn't exactly match the handles of my "Classic" Wusthhof knife set. But I'm certainly not sending it back. It works really well, just like the original one-just a little more cheaply made.

I know it seems excessive to buy an entire knife just for tomatoes ... but it's gotten to the point where I buy tomatoes JUST to be able to use this knife I love it so much. It slices through the fruit's skin as effortlessly as through softened butter, while other knives (even my other razor sharp Wusthof ones) just bruise and squish the fruit. Definitely worth the cost. I just bought a second one as a gift!

Buy Wusthof Gourmet 5-1/2-Inch Tomato Knife Now

Have had this knife for a while now and have to say that for slicing tomatoes and other veggies like cukes etc this knife cannot be beat. It is the right knife for that task. You can slice a tomato paper thin to beefstake thick and the slices are perfect and clean everytime! The only negative comment I have is that the handle (as on all newer gourmet series knives from Wusthof) seems to be more light-weight and somewhat cheaper. Not that this ruins the performance of the knife...it is more an esthetic / ergonomic thing. Thus four stars instead of five. I hand wash all of my good knives so it will never see the dishwasher so i doubt the handle will ever become an issue.

Want Wusthof Gourmet 5-1/2-Inch Tomato Knife Discount?

This knife allows you to thinly slice delicate fruits and vegetables without tearing. I can achieve a near paper thin slice of tomato with it, which makes this worth every penny to me.

This is a high-end home or semi-pro grade knife. It's stamped instead of forged, which cut some of the costs between this and the high end Classic series. For me that is not a problem due to the nature of the knife. Had I been in the market for a chef's knife I would have spent the extra money and purchased a forged knife. I will say that this one holds a razor sharp edge as well as some forged knives that I own.

It is also missing the bolster that forged knives have, so it does not have the balance of a high-end knife, but for what it was designed to do that is not necessary. It's light, easy to use and the handle provides a nice, no slip gripping surface.

I love the way this knife holds its edge. Some of that is due to the serrated blade, but it's also because the quality of the steel used for the blade is the same quality that the forged models use. In fact I need to insert a caution: you need to be careful when using and cleaning this knife because the blade is extremely sharp. Make sure you store this in a block or roll too because this is not a knife you want loose in a drawer it can inflict a nasty cut if you accidentally grab it by the wrong end while rummaging through a drawer.

One final note: this, like all serrated blade knives, is designed to be used in a pulling motion in order to obtain the thin slices as well as safety when you are holding a tomato while cutting. The reason I mention this is because I've had guests who have assisted me in cooking use this knife with a pushing motion and it does not perform nearly as well.

This is a quality knife that should last a lifetime if you properly care for it. On the stamped vs. forged issue, I personally do not think there is a difference when it comes to some specialty knives like this one.

Wusthof Gourmet 23-Piece Block Knife Set

Wusthof Gourmet 23-Piece Block Knife SetBought these as a step up from the crappy Pinzon knives we bought from Amazon years ago. They were shipped from Macy's and Yay! they shipped to APO addresses. Let me tell you, when these things arrive they are SHARP! However, these aren't Wusthof's top of the line by any means. Some of the steak knives were full tang, some only partial. Most of the blades are pretty thin, with the exception of the larger blades (santoku, cook knife, cleaver, etc.). And the included block clearly wasn't intended for this set. It's short two slots, so I had to double up on some of the knives, while the slots for the smaller knives are too big, leaving way to much wiggle room. But using these knives is a dream. They glide through produce and veggies with nary an effort. I've been using them for over 4 months now, and they still seem as sharp as the day I got em. Been using the steel only when I felt I needed to, and have used the provided Wusthof pull-through "sharpener" as sparingly as possible. Would I buy this set again? For the price I paid (on sale) yes. But I do think I'll spend the extra money and get Trident Classics or their Grand Prix2.

Jamie Lynn Elegant Metal and Frosted Glass Vine Cake Knife and Server SetThe picture and reviews gave me high hopes for a decent product. The design looks elegant from far, but the quality is very poor. The blade of the knife and server seem like they are made of plastic and coated with metallic film. Both items have dull edges. Kyocera Revolution Series 3-Inch Paring Knife, White Handle and White BladeI would not have bought this on my own accord as it looks a bit cheap but the salesman at Sur la table recommended it. I loved it so much I bought one for my mom. Slices through veggies like butter! I am glad I took the salesman's advice.

Very light weight, good handle, EXTREMELY sharp!! Best knife for prep cutting vegetables. Read instructions; knife cuts utilizing a straight slicing motion not intended to carve or chop straight down on tile, glass or plates. Must be used with a cutting board do not use on a cutting mat, the blade will slice through the surface. If you allow children to help with meal preparation I would not recommend that they use ceramic knives.

Victorinox 5-Inch Mini-Chef's Knife with Fibrox Handle

Victorinox 5-Inch Mini-Chef's Knife with Fibrox HandleI don't like to use a big heavy and rigid chef's knife for most chopping tasks, so I always found myself using a paring knife with a little flex. Paring knives also have their limitations though, so I have been looking for a knife somewhere in between.

This little beauty fits the bill perfectly and has quickly become the workhorse of my knife collection. The handle is much more comfortable and grippy than a classic knife and the unusual shape of the blade allows both slicing and rocking chopping with equal ease.

A great 'in-between' knife.

We bought the 3-piece Victorinox chef's set a year ago. We love it, but frequently found that both my husband and I wanted to use the smallest (little over 4") knife in that set. So, I bought this 5" Chef's knife. Now we both want to use it all the time.

Like all the Victorinox chef's knives, this is wonderfully sharp, well-balanced, and has the great no-slip fibrox handle (which I at first thought seemed cheesy but now think it the greatest handle ever). But in addition, the angle (I think) of this blade somehow makes the knife miraculously fall through whatever you're cutting, almost without any expenditure of energy at all. It's a bit uncanny.

Also, the length seems perfect for most jobs . . . not at all unwieldy or scary like the longer ones, but long enough to just require a single fast smooth flow for most cutting tasks. Small and manageable enough that I don't use my paring knives anymore except when I want to peel something, but long enough that I avoid the anxiety of using the big chef's knives. Definitely worth the price.

I have used this knife for several weeks now and love it. I have a set of Chicago cutlery that I have problems keeping sharp even with a ceramic sharpener and steel. The plastic handle of the Forschner is nice as I don't have to worry about soaking a wooden handle (like in the Chicago cutlery) in the dishwater too long. The wooden hangles tend to swell and discolor over time with too much water exposure. This knife is very sharp. My husband cut himself while preparing a meal. I have not had to sharpen it yet. I hope to find that it is easy to sharpen when needed and maintains its sharpness.

Bunmei 4 inch Deba KnifeThe knife just has fantastic steel and will take and keep an edge. The blade is wide enough to keep my knuckles off the cutting board, which I like. Am a knife guy and do most of the cooking at our house. Have had other deba style knives, but none with the steel of this brand. I love the one side taper on this style knife as it kicks away the last slice making room on the knife for the next. Having said that, it took a call to a knife shop for me to learn how to get a shaving edge with the one side taper. Now that have learned the trick it's no problem (I use ceramic to hone that edge). Personally, I do most of my kitchen chores now with this knife.

Shun DM0767 Classic 6-Inch Meat Cleaver

Shun DM0767 Classic 6-Inch Meat CleaverNormally I would never care, but this was a wedding present and the box is a very nice part of the presentation. It arrived scuffed and covered with oily finger prints. No physical separation from the other items. Again, products was fine, but Amazon should pay more attention when packaging a $150 knife.

Oneida Flight 45-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8

Oneida Flight 45-Piece Stainless-Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8I've had these for over 5 years now and aside from my own mistakes (bending the spoons in hard ice cream; losing pieces) I haven't had any problems with them. I don't understand what the 18/0 rating means or why other people find it substandard, but I can tell you this: I'm buying another set to replace all the ones we've lost or accidentally thrown away because all the remaining pieces still look perfect after 5 years. If people need anything better than these, I can't understand why. No stains, no rust, no discoloration, no significant scratches, no gouges, no dulling of the finish, nothing. What else could people be looking for?

One side note: I've seen a different cheaper version of this same style at Wal-Mart, but the pieces there are thinner and not as substantial as these. The set pictured here is the nicer, beefier version.

This flatware is attractive and holds up well to everyday use. It is solid and of very good quality. This is a good value. I'm a repeat purchaser have had this flatware for well ov er5 years.

We've have two of this set (Service for 16) for over 6 years now and they're still in good shape. Let me tell you, we are heavy duty eaters here! They get used daily and also at frequent large family gatherings. The utensils have held up against being used as tools, run through the dishwasher hundreds of times, lost in the disposal and they are still able to shovel food into our mouths! Sure, some of the spoons and forks have gotten bent when abused but they straighten right up with a tweak or two. The stiff knife blades will cut right through a steak. They've got a nice heft to them that gives you confidence that your food will make it to your mouth without the fork bending. People who have complained that these are 18/0 and not 18/10 Stainless are lame. For this use 18/0 is more than adequate (I'm an engineer so there!) They've never rusted. They are not as shiny after being abused for six year but that has nothing to do with the type of steel. AND...they are a great deal at Amazon!

I am extremely pleased with this set. It is amazing for the price! I've been looking for a casual set for a while now, and found this one. I played with the idea of purchasing it, then the price went down to 39.99, and I was sold!!

I read a reveiw that said the knife was 2 separate pieces, and can thus separate, but the knives I received are most surely one piece of steel. They are very nice, not too fancy. I have square plates and wavy glasses and these go great! They are basic without being dull. I love them!!

This was my first set of flatware when I moved out on my own. After years of handwashing and everyday use, the necks of the spoons and tines of the dinner forks started to bend.

Since I needed more place settings and at the time was not aware I could go online find the pattern, I replaced Flight with Mooncrest and am INFINATELY happier with the Mooncrest pattern.

Mooncrest is twice as heavy, practically destruction-proof, and are holding up MUCH better than the pieces of the Flight set I still have left.

Flight is OK for everyday use, but I would never use the same set for casual entertaining because of the use they cannot sustain.

Get the Mooncrest pattern if you need a sturdy set that you can interchange with everyday use and casual entertaining.

Cuisinart Advantage 19-Piece Solid Pom Cutlery Block Set

Cuisinart Advantage 19-Piece Solid Pom Cutlery Block SetFirst, I want to make it clear that I am by no means a particularly talented chef or cook; mostly, I put together healthified casseroles, skillet meals and slow cooker meals for my family. So that's what this set is being used for by me: basic vegetable chopping, basic meat carving, etc.

That being said, my husband and I couldn't be happier. The knives are sturdy and come in a nice, heavy solid block. The steak knives are not serrated but very sharp and cut steak nicely. There is a "utility knife" that comes in two sizes that is thick, with indention on the side for liquid to run off that are just perfect for onions and tomatoes.

At first, I was disappointed that there wasn't a fillet knife, but there is smaller, smooth knife (similar to the steak knives) that works fine for trimming chicken or pork cuts.

The blades was easily and do not get stained with water drop ghosts. Although sturdy, none of the knives--even the largest--is particularly heavy. The scissors come with a handle bottle cap opener. For the number of knives, it doesn't take up too much counter space.

We've owned these for several months now and they are the worst knives we have ever owned. The kitchen shears are totally useless. If you try to cut something you have to use the last inch of the blade to cut anything. The knives are dull and to us aren't much better than a standard butter knife. My wife hates this set and would not recommend it to anyone. Don't buy this as a gift unless you don't like the person receiving the gift.

OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer

OXO Good Grips Wire Cheese SlicerI have had the WORST luck with wire cheese slicers , regardless of whether they were purchased at the grocery store or gourmet cooking shop. I actually had a $20.00 slicer fall apart with its very first use. I just bought this one a month ago, and though its longevity has yet to be proven, I just had to slice a TON of cheese for a large family Christmas party of 30 people, and was SO glad I bought this when I did! I love the grippy handle, and it made relatively quick work of 6 Sam's Club size blocks of cheese. It worked well on cheddar, monterey jack, colby, colby jack and mozerella. It has a nice weight and feel, and if it's as good as the rest of the Good Grips line, I expect it to last for a very long time.

I was very disappointed with this cheese slicer--the wire broke after about the fourth use. I have always had good experiences with Oxo and was very surprised.

I absolutely LOVE my OXO good grips wire cheese slicer. My husband told me I didn't need one.. "Cheese slicer??? What's wrong with a knife??" Bah! Nothing says cheese like a good cheese slicer to give you those nice even slices.. I got desperate. I put my OXO cheese slicer on our wedding registry. He laughed at me.. but a friend of ours got it for me!!! I can't tell you how much I love using this slicer.. The last cheese slicer I had broke after a few uses, but NOT the OXO! My OXO cheese slicer is still going strong after a year, and looks still new.. and the handle! If you've ever used OXO you know how comfortable it is in your hand!I would recommend the Oxo good grips wire cheese slicer to everyone!!!

I should have checked out other reviews because Oxo makes another item almost identical to this that has more bad reviews than you can shake a stick at. I bought this to replace another wire cheese slicer I got in a supermarket years ago that was starting to show its' age. I'm glad I didn't throw it away when this came, because I'm back to using it after about a week. Like all Oxo products I've had this looked and felt great, and like all of them it worked great as well...at first. Unfortunately, like a few Oxo products, this was not very well built. The design, ergonomics and function were all first class, but it broke after about a week. The wire snapped out and there is no way to replace it. Some of the better wire slicers have screws in the handle to allow the user to replace broken or loose wires, some even come with replacement wires, but not this one. I'm really dissapointed because Oxo makes some really wonderful products, but they also turn out a real turkey every now and then and this is one of them. Don't buy it!

The first couple of times I used this cheese slicer, the wire stretched out, making the slices thicker than they're supposed to be. Today I finally cut through a hard hunk of sharp cheddar and POP the wire broke. For $20, I expect more. Next time I'll buy a non-wire cheese slicer. VERY disappointed as I expect more of OXO.
