Montana Knife 9" Offset Bread Knife with White Poly Handle

Montana Knife 9' Offset Bread Knife with White Poly HandleThis is a serious knife for someone who likes bakery or home baked bread, and wants a good slicing tool. I would call this a commercial or restaurant grade cooks tool, for someone who appreciates function over looks. Not a fancy shmancy German brand or designer knife with Elk horn handle. Why waste your money? Very sharp and ready to cut out of the package. Please don't put it in the dishwasher if you want the maintain the cutting edge. Just wipe it down with a paper towel and put in back in the wooden rack or blade guard. This is true for any quality knife. The length is good for a full loaf of bread, and the raised handle is neat for keeping your knuckles off the cutting board.

Good knife and a great price. Makes a great gift for someone who appreciates good cooking tools.

Back working in a restaurant many years ago we used knives like this all day on the sandwich station. I've missed a good serrated blade where I do not have to drag my knuckles near the cutting board.

I decided to get one as a utility tool because I got tired of finding/rescuing my good knives in the dishwasher before I could hand wash them.

You'll get great performance and you don't have to pay >$70 for it. It comes razor sharp, and from experience these things hold a good cutting edge for a long time provided you do not abuse it.

I got the 9" size so I can cleanly go down through a sandwich in one or two strokes, not have to saw through something like I've been doing with a 6" Henkel tomato knife.

Its not fancy, but it works!

It's a large knife -exactly what I wanted as I have a tendency to bake large breads! The blade is wickedly sharp and slides through even the most dense and crubly loaf with ease. The knife appears to be well-made and of commercial quality.

I really like the offset of the handle. This knife cuts bread well and is very sharp. A little awkward storing in a drawer though. I'd still buy again.

I'd used a similar style knife at my job previously (university dining hall) and loved to use it then when I could.

For the price (even if it were $10 more) it's a great deal. I use it for bread, tomatoes, and what ever else needs to be cut.

Cook N Home 15-Piece Stainless-Steel Cutlery Set with Storage Block

Cook N Home 15-Piece Stainless-Steel Cutlery Set with Storage BlockI saw the cheap price and read the reviews. After buying and returning Chicago, Henkels, and Ginsu knives from amazon I figured I'd give these knives a chance. They arrived and the block was beautiful. It was professionally constructed and very easy on the eyes. Each knife was sharp and all felt tight in their handles. Not sure why others felt these were cheap quality knives. They are just as strong and sharp, if not sharper than the Chicago and Ginsu I tried. for this low price you cannot go wrong. I am now sold on the cook n home brand.

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 3.5 inch Paring Knife

Wusthof Le Cordon Bleu 3.5 inch Paring KnifeThe Wusthof Classic 3-1/2-Inch Paring Knife is close to perfection as a kitchen tool. But how do you improve on perfection? In this case, by making a paring knife that's a little less idiot-proofed, and a lot more powerful.

Wusthof's Cordon Bleu line has the same handle as their Classic line. But:

The knives have no bolster behind the cutting area. This gives you a second point at the back of the knife perfect for things like pricking the skin of a tomato to insure a clean slice, or scoring an apple or potato skin as you rotate it against the blade. However, because there is nothing between your finger and the blade, you have to balance the knife properly as you use it, and pay attention to where the knife is resting in your hand. Yes, you can hurt yourself with this knife. Much more easily than with the Classic.

The blades are thinner, harder, and more highly polished than the Classic, with a shallower and sharper angle on the cutting edge. As a result, they will keep their razor edge longer, but you'll have to baby the knife more, and the edge will be harder to steel. (The metal is the same amalgam as the much older Wusthof knives were, before they changed the formula. I finally gave up on using my Wusthof steel, and I'm using a Kyocera ceramic steel rarely to keep my Cordon Blue knives sharp).

This is not an entry-level knife. But if you know what you're doing, it will become the go-to paring knife in your arsenal. Think of it as the turbo version.

I ordered this knife to replace one that had been used as an icepick (by a nameless spouse), and this design is even a bit better -good length and taper -than the one we replaced (which was part of "Emeril" Wusthof knives). We won't be testing its usefulness as an icepick, however.

I bought two Wusthof knives and I love both of them. They are the best knives I've ever owned and worth the money. They are easy to sharpen with the Wusthof sharpener and hold the edge for a long time. I would highly recommend these knives.

I do not like serrated knives.

After I bought a set with one of these in it, I realized that I loved this as a steak knife as well as a paring knife. I have purchased a full set of these for just this use, but I end up using these for all kinds of knife work in the kitchen.

I like that it doesn't have the back catch for nice clean continuous cuts, and I have never come close to injuring myself with this feature.

Great look. Great handling. Allows precise control.

Great knife.

The Cordon Bleu series must be the pinnacle of the Wustof line. This knife is a joy to look at, a joy to hold, and a joy to use. If you, like me, like your sopressata sliced razor thin, this is the knife you need. The blade is very sharp and so far I've been able to maintain its edge with the finest grade diamond sharpener.

Kyocera KC Classic Series 5-Inch White Slicer Knife

Kyocera KC Classic Series 5-Inch White Slicer KnifeOne of my recent discoveries has been Kyocera ceramic knives. How have I missed out on this all these years? Ceramic knives rule. I thought I had really nice knives, a fabulous Santouku from Crate and Barrel and a Henckel I've had for years. Well, enter this Kyocera Chef's Knife and I no longer want to use my other knives.

A knife is something I use multiple times a day and I really appreciate this quality. Ceramic knives stay sharp and don't oxidize and turn your food brown (something that easily happens to lettuce). This knife feels good in my hand and makes chopping easy and pleasurable. After using this, I wouldn't even consider buying another metal knife.

Initially, the knife cut very smoothly. I purchased it back in Dec. 2010 for Christmas and bought it based on the reviews. I have not used it often and it seems duller now but other than that it seems great. I have to get it sharpened.

Maxam? Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer with Suction Base

Maxam? Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer with Suction BaseI bought 7 already and may buy more in the future. I give them as gifts. Mostly when I give one to someone I get a funny look and then a few days later I get a call telling me they love it and want to know were I got it.

The slicer and peeler on this product works as good as others I have used. The only fault I have found is the suction up on the bottom. If placed just right on my counter it will hold but only through about 2-3 apples at best. Then I have to resuction it down because it looses its grip.

Kyocera Ceramic 4.5 Inch Utility Knife

Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4 Inch Utility Knife, Black BladeWhat a knife! I did not buy this particular knife from Amazon, but was an impulse buy at an asian market which had these at a competitive price.

The blade almost looks like a cheap plastic utensil, but don't let the looks deceive you. . . this knife is sharp! There was no sleeve in the packaging, and I got a nick on my finger handling the knife the very first time.

Also with the blade being so hard, you will need to be sure that the knife takes no hard shocks or flexes too much, or the ceramic may break. I would use a mat for cutting on a Granite(or Corian) countertop to avoid chipping the blade(or maybe cutting a groove in the stone!). There are places near the edge that look translucent and you can see the very fine lines along the blade from what I assume would be from the grinding process to finish the blade.

Cutting veggies and meat is very nice, but make sure you are using a hardwood board, or cutting mat, as this sucker leaves very fine grooves on supermarket cutting boards. If the knife were any heavier the cutting would do itself!

Already owning a well-rounded selection of Wusthof Classic knives, I didn't need a medium-sized slicer. Having received this knife as a gift, it was a nice introduction to Kyocera's ceramic knives. The edge quality of this knife (and I imagine the entire Kyocera line as well) is superb. If proper care is given, I can hardly imagine a better line of knives for the home cook (save for a boning and serrated bread knife). One concern I had was that the entire Revolution line has blunted (but edged..) tips, instead of pointed tips that nearly all other knives have. I needn't have worried. I used this rather large (for the task at hand) knife in place of my beloved Wusthof Classic trimming knife (#4002) to trim fat and sinew from a piece of flank steak while preparing fajitas and the rounded-yet-sharp-edged tip easily found it's way between fat, sinew, and the meat just as efficiently as my Wusthof. As Kyocera will tell you, ceramic blades are not for cutting around bone or jobs that may require twisting of the blade (such as boning), but for day-to-day slicing, they are very tough to beat. As I have 3 (going on 4 children) and perform 99% of the cooking in my household, I appreciate the time saved by not having to meticulously maintain the edge of steel knife after each use. For that reason, I have already acquired the 3" paring knife and will be purchasing the 7" chef's model in the near future.

I bought this knife for my mother as a Christmas gift. It cuts very well and has stayed as sharp as it was out of the box for almost a whole year now! Im very impressed with ceramic blades. Im pretty sure she only uses this knife and another ceramic Kyocera knife I got her. It makes cutting almost anything in the kitchen very easy. Hightly recommended!!!

Read Best Reviews of Kyocera Ceramic 4.5 Inch Utility Knife Here

Until recently, I used a fancy German stainless steel paring knife. It used to work OK but in the past few years, it refused to stay sharp. It was never sharp enough, even though I'd frequently use a sharpening steel on it. I even had it professionally sharpened, but it quickly got dull again. Because I used it often, this got frustrating (and dull knives are dangerous), so I looked for an alternative.

This Kyocera ceramic knife is amazingly sharp. It easily slices a tomato without having to poke the skin first (good thing, because the knife has a blunt tip). It even cuts through banana peels from the outside (I cut them up before composting). It lets me make thinner slices and handles well. The blade already has some minor staining (not a problem with stainless steel), and as others have pointed out, it's not to be used to smash garlic, but those are minor points. It cuts very well, and that's what a knife is for. Kudos, Kyocera!

Want Kyocera Ceramic 4.5 Inch Utility Knife Discount?

I thought a long time before buying one of these knives. I got this model, FK-110WH. It's a 4.25 inch long bladed general utility knife. I'm not sure that I'm the typical purchaser of this type of knife because I bought it for just one thing, to make SALSA.

We own a lot of very nice knives. 8 of them are Wusthof knives, two of them are Cutco and then this one. I bought each of them separately and for a specific use so I'm not with the reviewers who complain it's lack of versatility. That's fine with me as I have other knives for those things. It's true that there are some things you shouldn't use a ceramic knife for. If you're not OK with that, get something else.

My family loves salsa and I'm the go-to guy for that. I've been using an 4582/12 Wusthof knife. That's a 12 cm prep chef's knife. It's my favorite knife and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's plain and simple the best all around knife I've ever owned. But for slicing fruits and vegetables, this Kyocera ceramic is far and above it.

The first time I used it my mouth popped open. And remember, I'm not comparing it to cruddy knives. It may be specialized but if you do a lot of slicing, you should have this knife, or one like it in your block. Even when cutting along the edge of a slick tomato skin, this thing will go right through it rather than slipping of the side and cutting your finger. If you're worried about it being too sharp for you, don't. The sharper the knife, the safer it is. You want your knife to be so sharp that it cuts right through whatever you intend it cut. It's when the blade is dull that it tends to go off target and endanger your digits.

30 bucks. The cheapest knife I own but I'm sure I'll come back to it again and again. I probably wouldn't buy this type of knife (ceramic) in the "Chef's" style but to slice vegetables, everyone should have one.

J.A. Henckels International 3-Piece Paring Knife Set, Multicolored

J.A. Henckels International 3-Piece Paring Knife Set, MulticoloredSeveral years ago I bought the 4-pack set of these knives, manufactured by Zwilling-Henckels. I was so happy with them I bought some for others in my family. We use them almost daily, so I wanted to get another set. While looking around on the site, I noticed this 3-piece set which cost 1/2 as much as the 4-piece! What a deal I thought! The only knife missing was the red-handled one, which I use the least anyway. Unfortunately, I forgot to do my homework. Yes, these ARE Henckels knives but NOT the same Henckels knives I have and love. Henckels has two lines, the "premium" brand and the "value for the money" brand. The first set of knives I bought was the "premium" brand and this set from Henckels, International, is the "value for the money" brand. These knives are very similar to the first set I bought but they are not the same. The handles are slightly different, the blades are different sizes, the knives aren't as sharp, and I have already noticed some small rust stains on the blades, though I was able to scrub them off. These knives are ok for the price, but they aren't as good as the set from Zwilling-Henckels, which I would have given 5 stars.

09/14/09 Here it is, 5 years later, and I'm thinking of buying another set of Henckels paring knives. I will buy the Henckels Twingrip set of 4 rather than these, in spite of the higher price. (If you knew me, that fact would astound you!) If you are confused by the similar names for the two sets of knives, see if you can find a close-up picture. The better quality knives have two little 'men' on the blade, as opposed to one 'man' on the lower quality merchandise.

If you are wondering why I would consider buying yet another set of paring knives, it is for this reason: I find myself washing the dirty, yellow H. Twingrip knife over and over rather than reaching for my clean, yellow H. International blade!

These are *extremely* sharp, really high quality knives for the price. I have a really good, really expensive set of knives that I use for "specialty" tasks, but I find myself grabbing these little knives for my normal day-to-day use.

I also have the other inexpensive Henckels set, the one that includes these three knives plus a red-handled longer knife. It's not worth the extra money, in my view. That little red knife has a rounded tip, is serrated, and the only thing I ended up using it for was slicing sandwiches. For the money, this set of three knives is an outstanding value. I just bought another set to have a spare.

Buy J.A. Henckels International 3-Piece Paring Knife Set, Multicolored Now

They cut sharp enough, it's just they're very light-weighted so they don't have the stability feeling which I think the only drawback if you expect something decent. Otherwise the price is right, you'll be happy with the well functioning colourful little knives!

Colorful handles stick out in the drawer. I find these paring knifes generally to be incredibly useful in food prep for everyday dinners and bag lunches for school/work.So they last about a eightteen months without sharpening even if you throw them in the dishwasher. However, I would never pay more than ten dollars for the set. These are NOT a replacement for your good knives that need to be sharpened and handwashed (which I use when preparing food where appearance and consistency of cut size is important). They are just a good extra set of paring knives the price of which allows you to abuse them and not feel guilty when you dispose of them down the line.

Dexter Traditional Wood Handle 8 x 3-1/4" Chinese Chefs Knife

Dexter Traditional Wood Handle 8 x 3-1/4' Chinese Chefs KnifeA very sharp knife, very good to cut meat(boneless) and chop vegetables. BUT: I chopped my first onion and the blade stained, and I do not think that even a blow torch will not remove stain. Handle way too small for large hands making it a bit unstable.

This is the lowest cost item in Dexter Russell's line of Chinese knives. Just as sharp as all the others. High carbon steel guarantees the sharpest blade possible, and will eventually develop a patina. Every Chinese restaurant kitchen has one. In Chinese kitchens, they don't have a block of knives, with a different size and design for different jobs. Every job is done with this knife. Chopping. Slicing. Dicing. Paring. Smashing garlic. And even processing of live animals.

Before you call PETA, just keep in mind that in Asian cultures, the food has to be as fresh as possible. For one, it taste better. And in the days before refrigeration, You keep everything alive up to the last possible minute. Nobody wants to eat spoiled, rotting meat. Would you eat day old sushi without refrigeration?

Being a vegetarian is a first world luxury. Eating meat is a third world luxury. Rejecting food, while others starve, is a pompous, arrogant action by overfed, privileged elitist. 30% of the world's population is vegetarian, most of them not by choice, and they're not too happy about it either.

Joyce Chen Spot N'Chop Large Cutting Board

Joyce Chen Spot N'Chop Large Cutting BoardI bought this cutting board based upon Cook's Illustrated's review. As seems always to be the case, they were right on... it is an excellent board.

Pros:

great cutting feel (a LOT like a good wooden board)

lightweight

fits in the dishwasher

Cons:

as both sides of the board are meant to be used, neither side has rubber feet to keep it from sliding under the knife. I use a damp towel or washcloth that holds it rock-steady.

Recommended.

We have an assortment of cutting boards of various sizes and material. The board is a nice mid-range size. We don't take great care of our boards so some of the woods ones have warped and cracked. The plastic seems to absorb the chopping action better than our other boards.

These are the knives that are used in the back of restaurants and deli counters, as opposed to the fancy knives in infomercials and celebrity chef online stores. I've owned the black handled version of this knife which I got from Japan about 5 years ago when it wasn't available here in the USA. It is far better better than any of the steel edged serrated knives for everything from tomatoes to bread, and the 7" length sure beats the smaller "tomato" knives. The tiny serrations do a fabulous job. Still seems as sharp as it was when I first got it. The only caveat is that unlike steel knives, ceramic can be chipped or broken so you need to handle them with a bit of care. I've had many ceramic knives for many years and never had a problem, just don't drop them or smash the edge and they should be fine. No need for a dishwasher, they clean easily by hand no matter what you've been cutting. Just bought a couple for my daughters.

1. I've not imagined much need for the big knife. I was wrong. I first used it to whack through a whole chicken, oriental style. It did the job perfectly.

2. In the process of cutting the chicken, I had bok choy to thin chop. I used this big boy and discovered that it is also the best veggie chop knife I have. The control and speed of the knife in rocking mode is superior to the 2 high end metzaluna's I had become used to.

3. The knife is heavy and solid. Sharpening to surgical edge is easy maintenance.

10" hollow ground salmon/ham knife:

1. The sharpest and smoothest thin cutter I've ever seen.

2. Highly flexible blade enables straight cuts. The knife is incredibly thin.

3. The best sushi/sashimi knife I've ever used.

Great knives. Cleaver is great for breaking down chickens, etc. Slicer is exceptional on filleting salmon. Highly recommend, knives have superb balance. Would buy again.

I can not believe how much I got these for in the Gold Box. I'd just told my husband I wanted a cleaver and the next day this appears. They're sharp, of course, and the cleaver has some weight to it. My only real issue is one of storage. I honestly have not used the salmon knife as I bought this set just for the cleaver and it cost less than just the cleaver alone.

These shun knives are perfect and for the the price, that's even better. Note that, the cleaver is a meat cleaver so it's big and heavy, and super sharp. Couldn't be happier.

Victorinox Swiss Classic Chef's Knife with Granton Edge

Victorinox Swiss Classic 8-Inch Chef's Knife with Granton EdgeI have worked in several professional kitchens, but only cook at home now, and I just love this knife for cutting vegetables. I can slice thin as I like and the item I'm cutting doesn't stick to the knife as much, because of the Granton Edge. Nice light weight too. I have several other Swiss Army products and they all are near perfect. No complaints at all. Great metallurgy. When they say stainless steel they mean it. One Swiss Army tool I've had since 1999 has been around the world with me and has never rusted, because of the good quality stainless steel.

Good value, great sharp kitchen tool! The price was perfect for the quality of the knife. Very nice craftmanship by Victorinox.
