I have been in need of a quality paring knife for some time. Though I've not used this bird's beak style before, I find it to be a good knife and am glad I purchased it. If you're used to a standard paring knife, there is a bit of a learning curve while you adjust to the different style. I would have given it 5 stars, but the very tip of the blade has a tiny imperfection (bend) in it. I must not have read the product description close enough. The name of the item is "Grip-EZ" and the Product Features state: NONSLIP, soft grip handle and has raised sides. From all of this, I interpreted that the cutting board would "grip/be non-slip" on the work surface. It DOES NOT. To prevent the cutting board from slipping while you are cutting/chopping, you would need to place your own "non-slip" surface underneath. Very disappointing.The "non-slip" feature does apply to the black handle portion of the cutting board. I would much rather have had the non-slip on the underside.
It's a little smaller than I had imagined. The "scoop" shape is a nice feature so that juices won't run off, etc. I'll keep it only for the scoop shape and the ability to easily transfer the chopped items into the cooking pot.

This product looks just like the picture. It matches with just about any decor, the wood stain is a medium shade. I like the size of it, it fits in smaller utensil drawers, since it is made of bamboo it is lightweight. Perfect for people that live alone or with one other person. I cook as a serious hobby and own plenty of turners, spoons and measuring cups, mostly in stainless steel. However, I have a son who recently married and I have been buying some basic kitchen gadgets for them. I thought that this set would be useful and it seemed like a good value (they complain that I am always spending too much on them each time that they see me.) Farberware is a name that I recognized, not high end but not the worst, so I decided to give it a shot. Here is my take on each item included here:* The spoons and the turners: Fairly well-made with a nice feel to them. The handles feel weighted and are well balanced. The turners were a little more rigid that I would like but over all I give them 4 stars.
* The can opener: It's okay, not really well made but it should hold up for a few years. 3 stars.
* The measuring cups and spoons: Again, not great but usable. They look like something you would pick up at the dollar store, however they are well marked with their respective sizes. 3 stars.
* The spatulas: They seemed to be pretty cheaply made and were overly soft. 2 stars.
* The vegetable peeler and the pizza cutter: Junk, I don't even think that they would work more than once. They were so cheaply and poorly made that I would have been embarrassed to give them to anyone. I threw them straight into the trash can. 1 star.
Overall, the set is just barely acceptable and if I had it to do over again I would have bought something else.I picked this because it has nearly everything you need to start building your kitchen. We are moving into a new apartment and are bringing nearly nothing from our previous places. So, this was the perfect choice. You cannot find something that includes such a variety at this price in the stores. By no means are these super thick top of the line items. But, you will find sturdy tools that you can use daily and you won't cry for your wallet if something breaks.

This block is gorgeous and the photo doesn't do it justice. I was enamored with it when I took it out of the box and couldn't wait to fill it with my knives. Sadly, my chef's knives don't fit. The block is OK and it is able to accomodate all my knives: 2 large chief knives 240 mm & 200 mm, a bread knife, and other smaller knifes. My steel is a bit longer than the block by about 15 mm but this is not a big problem, probably my steel is longer then usual. We ordered this set to add on to an existing mish mash of pots and pans we've had for years. The hope was that we could toss some of the older pans out.Strong Points: Great coating, the food literally slides off with little effort. Inclusion of a couple tools is a nice touch (though not sure it's worth paying more for, as the tools probably retail for a dollar or two). Heating distribution is even, and so it cooks effectively.
Weak Points: Small. It's hard at times to convert 8" pot into a visual, especially when the pictures show things that look bigger. A few of the pans are suitable for children, but not big enough to cook something for a single adult.
Overall, the product appears well made, but I would go to a more expensive set with a larger selection of pots and pans if I was going to use these as my primary cooking utensils.I am very pleased with my cookware. The quality is great and the price was right. Easy to clean up after use.

{Scroll down for the review}There's a lot of hoopla out there about knives in general. There are fanboys aplenty for every brand from Ronco "Never-dulls" to the Shun culinaryphiles. Here's what you really need to know:
Mainstream knife blades are one of two types: European or Japanese. European style knives have a 20 degree edge and are designed for "Rocking." Additionally, the knife is weighted at towards the blade. Rocking is a style of cutting where the user doesn't let the knife leave the cutting board but allows it to pivot up and down. This is similar to kneading dough but not letting your hands leave the dough. Japanese style knives have a 10 degree edge angle and are designed for "Chopping." Chopping is where the user incorporates a quick "chopping" action to dice food. Conversely from the European style, these knives are balanced. This helps with the feel and quick movement needed for chopping. From here, it is easy to see why Japanese style knives would need a 10 degree edge as it allows for this type of action. Because of the blade angle, these knives tend to stay sharper for a longer period of time. However, they are a pain to sharpen.
With that said, this knife is European. I came from a Santoku Calphalon Katana series where I chopped everything (not that I knew what I was doing, but because it felt right). Switching to this knife, the chopping action did not work very well. When I switched to the rocking motion, this knife was amazing. Also, sharpening this knife is much easier to do (as compared to the Japanese style) as conventional pull sharpeners work really well. I also got a honing rod J.A. Henckels 9-Inch Poly Sharpening Steel. This is a MUST as it allows you to straiten the blade edge and keep your knife sharper for longer. You can also get Wusthof 10-Inch Sharpening Steel which I believe is sold by Amazon (at the time of post).
{REVIEW}
In short, this is a great little knife. It is balanced toward the bladed. This is sharp and has remained sharp even though I use it 3 days out of the week. I attribute this to the honing steel that I use every time I use it. It should be noted that the handle is almost as long as the blade. If you have small hands, you'll find yourself choking up on the handle. Additionally, the blade itself is not that wide. I would have thought that a chef's knife would be a little wider than this. As a reference, this would probably be 70% Chef and 30% slicer. Because of the width, I'm a bit more careful when smashing garlic cloves than I normally am, but this still gets the job done. The Blackwood handle isn't anything special. It's nice, but it's treated so that you really can't tell if it really is wood or not. This is because the handle can't be absorbent as it would foster bacteria. All in all, this is a great knife that has remained sharp.

The Zhen light "cleaver" isn't a cleaver at all. It's a Chinese vegetable knife the Asian version of the chef's knife that coincidentally has the same profile as a western style cleaver. Unlike a cleaver the blade is thin and the grinding is a much more narrow angle. This means that the blade is too delicate to operate as a cleaver, but is excellent for fine dicing and thin slicing when used as a chef's knife. Like a chef's knife the blade is slightly curved and is used with a rocking motion. Chinese vegetable knives have the edge over chef's knives because their higher mass and blade height give them more inertia and cutting power. Their high blade height makes them a bit awkward for newbies however. You must hold the food carefully on one side of the blade and feed it into the blade. That's where the Zhen light cleaver comes in. With it's lower blade height it feels more agile and has less of a learning curve for western cooks learning to use this excellent type of blade. Held choked up on the handle the balance is perfect. The factory grind on the edge is excellent. The edge is razor sharp and has held for dozens of uses so far.Zhen is a Taiwanese knife company that specializes in knives reminiscent of the Japanese line called Shun. They have two main lines: a carbon stainless steel series and a fancier prettier damascus steel series (not the item on offer here). The carbon stainless series uses 3 layer construction, with a core of high carbon "VG-10" stainless steel in the middle (to constitute the edge) with layers of high carbon stainless on either side. The use of VG-10 steel and the 3 layer construction is a definite homage to Japanese high end knife manufacturing. The principle benefit of VG-10 steel is that its high Rockwell hardness value which means it will hold an edge better than normal stainless steel. The downsides are that it is more easy to chip, and will be less stain resistant. The handle is made of a rubber type material which is comfortable to grip. The edge of the blade is heavily frosted on the grinding bevel above the edge. I don't know if this is meant to hide the fusion line of the two types of metal or improve the release properties of food on the broad surface of the blade but it is attractive and does help vegetables release. The blade is surprisingly thin and light for such a broad profile. The thin-ness translates to agile slicing. I doubt it has the strength to chop bones or other very tough food items (such as the stems of winter squash, for example). Indeed the instruction sheet for this knife specifically warns against using it for bones underscoring the fact that is is a Chinese vegetable knife and not a cleaver.
All in all, the construction is amazing for the price. I will follow up on how well it holds up over time. I will say for the moment that initial quality is surprisingly high for such a reasonably priced item. At this price level you usually get rustable carbon steel with a rat tail tang and a cheap wooden handle with rings of loose metal as the bolsters. Here you get an exotic fused blade of the type used in the manufacture of Samurai swords, using an exotic type of steel I've never seen outside of Japan before. The blade shape is clearly forged, not stamped, with impressive grinding and finishing. The full tang and nice heel piece are also unusual at this price. Performance in use has been in line with the luxury appearance: excellent. So far I'd rate this item as an extreme bargain when used as a chef's knife not a cleaver. It's a taste of high end Japanese materials and construction, but made in Taiwan, with a price to match.My wife is very happy with me for buying her this knife. It is sharp and beautiful. I do like using it, and I think the way it was built to last.

I love to cook and like anyone who spends a decent amount of time in the kitchen experimenting and trying to turn our culinary delights to impress family and friends, you come to rely upon your tools. And a good knives are one of the key items. I have a few good ones that I have invested in. I wasn't so sure about a 'cleaver style' knife and if it would work for me, so I liked the price point of this, it seemed enough to get a decent knife without paying a kings randsom for something I wasn't sure I was going to like.I'm so glad I did, this is a fantastic knife. It's really light and easy to use, but the edge is razor sharp on arrival. I've had it 3 months and have used it nearly every day since then, and it hasn't needed sharpening, its still as sharp, so I'm very impressed. If you do a lot of vegetables and want to get through them fast, this is a great slicer and dicer that you won't regret and shoots way beyond the price point, its more comfortable to use and keeps an edge better than knives that I have that are 3 or 4 times the price. I bought Chicago cutlery steak knives first. The knive is just as good. I woul recommend to anyone. It's also not expensive.I love the Chicago Cutlery knife set with one exception. The bread knife serrated teeth are MUCH too agressive for bread. It makes so many crumbs when used. It is so bad that we rescued the old knife from our previous set to use instead. The rest of the knife set is so well balanced and very nice. It's hard to believe that such an oversite was made. Hamilton Beach Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case
I definitely appear to be in the minority when I say I do not like the way this knife performs. This is the fourth electric knife I've owned over the past 30 years and by far the worst.I don't have any "Pros" about this knife
Cons:
1) The 7-1/2 inch blade (the actual length with serrated edges) wasn't long enough to adequately cut through a large turkey.
2) The handle is not designed well. It is heavy and just does not fit well in the hand. I found that as I was cutting, my hand quickly got tired but the way the handle and the "on" button are designed it was very difficult to change my hand position. It would have helped if the on button could be locked to the "on" position.
3) While cutting the turkey the blades kept bending. The knife failed miserably cutting through the joints. The blades are definitely the flimsiest of any of the electric knives I've owned.
The primary reason I purchased the knife was to cut turkeys, oven roaster chickens, etc. I'm sure the knife would do well cutting bread or soft meats such as a salami, but I have STRONG doubts it could handle slicing a hard piece of beef such as a cold cooked brisket (the secondary reason I bought the knife).
I'm going to check on the return policy about getting my money back. This is one of the few purchases from Amazon.com that I've made since Amazon first came online, that I have wanted to return.My fiance and I realized we can save a lot of money if we make our own sandwich meats. We tried before cutting the pieces by hand, but it just didn't work very well. This electric knife is exactly what I expected and we're able to cut slices of an appropriate thickness for sandwiches. It did take a little while to get here, but my patience paid off and it arrived the same night we intended to cook our next roast! It's not even as loud as the electric knife my parents own.

note to editors: I am reasonably sure that this item actually refers to a multi-pack (I suspect a dozen) of the item -can you verify count and correct?You must have several paring knives in your kitchen. They are versatile, and you know you use them several times daily. So, a good one at a good price is important. There are several ones from any number of Japanese or German companies, but these will cost you an Andy Jackson per.
This dandy thing is only a few bucks, and will do the job of its more expensive brethren. It is the highest quality metal: high carbon stainless steel. Super sharp, the edge is reasonably durable, and quite efficient at cutting. However, since it is made in Brazil, the cost is a mere fraction of what you would normally have to spend.
I love it, and suggest you get several.
One warning: the blade is flat from handle to tip; the cutting edge does not curve up or down at the tip; for some, that makes this blade less versatile, but I do not agree.

It has a great handle that is thick and contoured, this gives a very positive feel and good control while using it. It's not like other flimsy peelers that have a skinny handle that slips in your hand, with a wimpy blade that flexes even on the easiest cuts. I have a set of JA Henkels. They are good knives and hold an edge for a while. But for the price comparison. I think CC is the best. I think this knife cost me around $20.00 and it out performs my knives that are four times the price. I keep thinking one of these knives are going to be shoddy. Quite probably the best knife I have ever used. Perfect fit for my small hands. And sharp!! Requires very little effort to cut through anything. Meat or veggie products no problem. I even craved a BBQ chicken without issue. Removing those aggravating legs and wings was a snap. I first used this knife in a vacation house of all places and thought "Wow, I have to have this." I found and purchased the product through Amazon of course. My go to place when I'm looking for something special. I then ordered and sent the same knife to my son-in-law who fell in love with it too. It arrived earlier than promised, packaged perfectly to protect the blade. A win, win, win in my opinion. Since I was familiar with the product there were no surprises just appreciation of the knife. Pure Komachi 2 Series Hollow-Ground Santoku Knife
This is my first time reviewing something that isn't a book, lol. Anyways, I'm a culinary student and I happened on this knife in Macy's along with some other things I needed. I was skeptical at first because of the price (it was on sale for 7.99) but I had always seen other people in class using knives that look like these (I didn't know what they were called til now) and despite my hatred for pink, I went ahead and bought this knife. I'm writing this review right after using in class for the first time today. I got a few glances, but the knife is very lightweight. The knives in our knife kits are Mercer knives and since they're German they're heavier so it was weird for me to use such a light knife. It felt like a toy knife, but it made it easier to handle. It's a sharp little knife and I hear that it can take to being sharpened. I chopped onions, minced onions, minced garlic, minced cilantro, and peeled and sliced a pineapple.After class I took it to the chef-instructor, since he had taken notice of the knife during class. He looked it over and said that it was made of quality steel and that since its Japanese, the blade is thinner and easier to maneuver. He said it was good for people with small hands. He told me that it was very good that they now have quality knives mass marketed. All in all it got a good review from him as well. I think I'm going to buy the entire set for at home use. I still live with my mom and all we have in the way of cutlery is this old discolored knife which as been there since who knows when, a slicer that we use as an all purpose knife because no one wants to use the previously mentioned knife, and this newer knife set that I hate since ALL the blades are serrated (using the serrated chefs knife to chop an onion is torture, I always wind up using the slap chopper). This knife set just stays in the block all the time since no one wants to use it either.
As a side note I also asked my instructor about the multi-use knife in this collection (the pretty blue skinny one with a half smooth, half serrated blade) since I had never seen a knife like this one before. He advised to not use that kind of knife as it is inconsistent. Since these knives aren't for cutting through bone, I would advise you to have a heavier chef (I believe the Komachi chef knife is thin as well) and boning knife (Komachi doesn't have a boning knife but still). I'm going to keep using this knife but I'm always going to have my trusty Mercer knife on standby, just in case.I was a little leary about buying this knife but I figured if I didn't like it I could give it away. Cooking one of my favorite dishes I decided to give this knife a try. I was amazed just how sharp this knife was, I mean razor sharp and you better know how to handle a knife otherwise you will be loosing fingers. It cut through everyting like butter and shaves razor thin. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, different color. A razor sharp knife.

Bought one of these because the pretty colors caught my eye.As a professional cook, I brought it to my workplace and got admiring looks from all, but alas, the edge was too sharp and thin and the weight too slight for the bang-out prep we have have to do. I use it for "tender" jobs like julienne basil and chopped chives; and really thinly sliced tomatoes.
I was a little uncomfortable with it, because of its light weight. The very sharp edge chipped on the second day at work, but it was a small ding and didn't overall affect the knife's performance. I'm afraid to steel it for fear of marring the paint job.

I work in a restaurant where I do a great deal of vegetable prep. I was a bit hesitant about buying this knife because every review I read said it's so light weight, so I wasn't sure it could handle my job. But I decided to get it anyways because it's pink and cheap. Much to my surprise it is still just as sharp as it was on the day I bought it. I use a steel on it regularly and the pink coating hasn't chipped at all. I love my pink knife and highly recommend it.
