Will they impress your mother-in-law? No. Will they do the job for which they are intended and last long enough for you to get bored with them? Yes. They're a good buy! -PS: Here's a repeat of a great hint I learned here: Do NOT cut or chop and then use the blade to SCRAPE your edibles off the cutting board. That dulls the blade quickly and sounds awful. Instead, simply cut or chop and then quickly turn the knife over and use the flat edge to scrape everything off the board.

There is a reason why you are paying so little. Its not bad or poorly finished just something I could have made in woodshop class and have probably made a better finished product. I admit that I was sceptical when I first saw this knife set advertised, but since I've used it, I think it's a great value. I use it daily, but I would recommend hand washing each knife and drying before it sits and rusts. Although, I haven't seen any evidence of rust yet.
Seville Classics Bamboo Cutlery Tray, Medium
This tray is a great price and the dividers and frame seem very sturdy and appear to be real bamboo. However, the bottom is a particle board of some kind with a bamboo veneer. This veneer was peeling up in one corner when I opened the package. I know that this is significantly cheaper than apparently 100% real bamboo trays, so I'm not overly disappointed, but I am debating on the hassle of an exchange or not to see if I can get one that isn't peeling. As far as the long term durability because of the veneer at the bottom, I suppose we will see how it goes!-Exchanged and new product is great!

Rialto Translucent Red Corkscrew
I was skeptical of this device because I'm so jaded by marketing hype. This product, however, is just great. The screw is teflon coated, which makes it noticeably easier to screw into the cork. It also makes it easier to remove the cork from the screw.It also has a so-called two-stage hook (I have no if there's a proper name for the thing that hooks onto the lip of the bottle). If you use the shorter one first, it doubles the leverage, making it much easier to start pulling the cork. At around the halfway point, you can switch to the longer hook and finish the process.
Even the foil cutter is well-designed. It has a sharp serrated edge that makes cutting through the foil very easy. In contrast, I've used the straight edged kind and found them to be very difficult to use.
I've seen and used other two-stage corkscrews, but this one works well, doesn't slip and has a very solid feel. It's hand-friendly, meaning that there are no pressure points that make opening the bottle uncomfortable.
If there's any negative, its the price, which is a couple of dollars high as corkscrews go. However, I gladly paid for two more to give to my (grown) kids.
Update: When I said that this corkscrew was a couple of dollars high, I hadn't checked recent prices. Apparently, the price is now about two dollars less than I paid for it a few weeks ago. (I paid $10+ and it's now $8+). Rats!
Oneida Satin Dover 20-Piece Stainless Flatware Set , Service for 4
I bought my original Oneida Dover satin flatware a few years ago. I wanted something pretty but not as demanding as sterling silver. I only use it a few times a year. I needed some additional place settings for Thanksgiving, so I ordered them online. After receiving them, I noticed that the raised floral design on some pieces was inconsistent. For instance, what was supposed to be a flower was just a flattened disk. And in fact, when comparing the old flatware with the new set, which was made in Viet Nam, it is obvious the patterns are not exactly the same. The "Easy Care Tips" that came in the box said to avoid detergents containing lemon, avoid prolonged contact with acidic foods, wash the flatware separately from aluminum, sterling or silverplate, never let your flatware soak, even in plain water, do not store in plastic, wash and dry immediately after use, etc. All and all, it seems to be every bit as demanding as sterling silver, if not more so. Every time I use this flatware, I will have to jump up from dinner to wash and dry it to avoid pitting, corroding, or discoloration. I would rather be able to spend a little time socializing with my company, and wash dishes after they leave. I purchased Oneida because I still have a set that my mother gave us around 30 years ago, and you don't have to baby it like this.
When I got my first place setting in person, I was a tiny bit disappointed that it wasn't exactly the same as the ones my mother had. I put it back in the box, planning to think over whether to exchange them for a different pattern. They ended up sitting in a cabinet... for 7 years.
Just a few weeks ago, I pulled them out again... and was absolutely delighted with them. They are the perfect weight and feel in your hands. They are delicate and beautiful, but not *too* frilly/girly/ornate (or my husband might protest!). Just pulling a spoon or fork out of the drawer is a thrill... they are little works of art. They really are the perfect flatware that will become a family heirloom... how many family heirlooms do you have the joy of using several times a day? I've now purchased more place settings to complete the set. My only regret is that these sat unused and hidden away for 7 years... I could have been enjoying these every day all that time!

This is the Shun Classic 9" Slicer. Shun makes high quality knives, but you pay for it. Although very popular as Japanese Kitchen knives, these are really western-styled to market to the US in my opinion. Core Bamboo Pro Chef Butchers Block with Prep Bowls, Natural
I bought this monster brand new at a local store for less than 1/2 of what Amazon's price is! Guess it was a great buy, huh?This was a present for my wife, who has bought board after board, all of which cracked or split (and we hand washed them, too). I loved how large this board is. For starters, it is bamboo, so it should hold out for a good, long time. It also seems to be extremely sturdy and well-made. It sets upon 4 round, bamboo feet, so the underneath will not get soaked with any liquids that may go over the sides and make a mess. The 3 stainless bowls are a really great addition. They hold quite a bit and are slightly recessed into the board. There is a cut-out area on the side of each bowl to get your finger beneath so that they can be easily removed.
After some use, it is holding up quite well. In fact, she is using it as I type. I have used it once, also, and am impressed.
The only downside is that we do not have a good place to store it. It is large and heavy. I will probably have to clear out a shelf beneath the counter so that it is accessible.
5 of 5. I will update after some use later in the year. No more crappy IKEA stuff for us!
NOTE: You may want to shop around for this board. It may be found elsewhere for a lower price. Sorry Amazon vendors.
NOTE #2: I must state that in order to keep this (or any wooden) cutting board in good condition so it will last a long time, buy "FOOD SAFE" Mineral Oil to treat it. This is NOT the Mineral Oil used for cleaning paint brushes or used as a thinner. The Food Safe Mineral Oil is usually found at Kitchen Stores (even online with searching). Use per directions on bottle.

Rosle Onion and Vegetable Chopper
Tired of chopping small amounts of onions, garlic, parsley etc. Bought choppers before that did not work. Saw this one and gave it a try. Worked great. I can use it and put it in the dishwasher. After using it, bought a second on for my son that does a lot of cooking also. He also gives it good grades. It is not for chopping a whole onion but when you need a quarter cup or a few tablespoons it is excellent.
A cheaper Cook's Special chopper was much, much easier to put together than this waste of money.

I didn't realize that my girlfriend spent $40 on this thing. She thought she was buying a quality product. Worked fine for a while and, like the other reviewers, we began having problems reassemblying the unit after cleaning. Great idea, poorly executed. I bought this to help me with onions...chopping them without smelling fingers or tears...happy to say it does the job well. As long as you use forceful downward thrusts with low freqency it chops well. I would consider it a good buy for the money. Farberware Classic 17-Piece Cookware Set
I had put these on my wish list as a future splurge and was surprised and pleased when my hubbie bought them for me for my birthday last month! (LOVE that other folks can see my wish list!) I have owned Farberware before, but, only one or two pans...after twenty years or so, a handle had loosened, a pan lid was missing, etc. but they were still going strong! I don't think you can get a better quality of cookware at this price! (I had looked at other brands of aluminum clad stainless steel cookware and found they were HUNDREDS of dollars!) I have a ceramic cooktop and have found that many of the pots and pans I've tried have warped immediately and were instantly useless on the ceramic top (where things have to be perfectly flat to work). Not so with these pots and pans! They stay flat and heat up quickly. This set has a nice variety of sizes (my only complaint is that it doesn't contain a 6 quart stock pot). The lids fit well and the pots and pans have wonderful rings on the handles that allow hanging on any pot rack! The skillets are small, but, really good (the non-stick surface is thick and the pans heat up well and clean up easily). The set also came with three stainless bowls with plastic covers (perfect for chilling cookie dough), also with rings for hanging. I am pleasantly surprised as well by the baking pan. I usually use glass, but, my lemon bars baked up very nicely in this pan. The cookie sheet, though extremely small, is also impressive. It doesn't warp under high heat and I have used it for making garlic toast and as a pan under pies and breads with no problem. In fact, I plan to put Farberware cookie sheets on my wish list next! If you a looking to replace pots and pans, or, want to give someone you love a much appreciated gift that will last for years and years, I recommend this wonderful set!

Just like Grandma used to have!Yes these pots and pans have been slightly updated from their older version, but they still function and clean up just as well. I purchased these because my Grandmother had a set of them my whole life and they were always dependable, and seemingly indestructible. I say indestructible because I have managed to destroy many non stick pots: scratching the coat off and melting the coat of non stick yuckynessand that literally stinks horribly and ruins the meal and the pot! The Farberware pots and pans are heavy duty, stainless steel, and best of allthere's no non stick coating on the pots to ruin if you leave your beans unattended (in my case cleaning house) with the fire up a tad too high. The lids are not glass, they are also stainless steel. So no dropping lids and stressing the glass which in turn eventually break. These stainless steel lids sit nicely on the pots, the bell shape keeps the moisture in the pot and when the lid is removed the bell shape actually helps with not dripping the condensation on the lid all over the stove.
This Farberware Classic Stainless Steel set is perfect for any cook of any age. For young cooks who are learning, for cooks who try to fold the laundry while the beans have 2 minutes left, for cooks who are a little clumsy and drop their kitchenware, and even the older much more experienced cooks who just want a good high quality classic cookware set. out of all of my cutting boards i have, i love this one the most. it is a decent size. not too oversized, but just big enough for cutting up all types of vegetables and fruits. the thickness of it makes it easy to stand and dry on its own (which should always be done so a cutting board doesn't warp). not only is the board unique in the sense that it is two-tone, but it is also pretty difficult to stain. i have been using it for a while now and it still looks very good and i cut a lot. i recently purchased another one as a gift because i know the quality of it. there has been no splintering of the bamboo, no cracks yet, and no deep knife marks even with all of my mincing. i know i should use an oil to preserve it, but i haven't since i bought it two years ago and i am still impressed by the durability of it. for 25 bucks, i would definitely buy it again. thanks cc.

I have prettier, bigger, and more expenseive wine openers but none of them match this Pulltap for being easy to use. The two stage design for removing the cork is genius. Mezzaluna Chopper
...if you order this mezzaluna. It works for our family of two for the quantity of food that we're normally making, but I was surprised, as it was about half as big as I expected it to be. The description says that the blade is 6 3-4" which is accurate, but take into account that the blade is curved, so it appears a bit small.Besides that, the blade is sharp, the wooden handles are great, and it does exactly what its intended to do. I would recommend this to any person that cooks a few times a week and wants to simplify the chopping process.
