If you're looking for a knife to saw through beer cans, this is not it. If you're looking for a knife to saw through wood, this is not it. This is however, a specacular tomato knife. I use it solely for that purpose and it performs perfectly every time. Every tool in your kitchen should have a purpose and place. This one cuts tomatoes with ease and purpose. Use it for other things and you will ruin it. Tomatoes only. Highly recommended if you want perfectly cut tomatoes without crushing them. from thin to thick, this is your knife...it is what it is.

This knife (and all other Victorinox knives I have owned) performs its function perfectly. It is truly dishwasher safe and exhibits no ill effects with repeated washings. It maintains an edge (provided you don't foolishly use it on a glass cutting board) and does it's job well.

Catskill Craftsmen 14-1/2-Inch Poly Cutting Board Paddle with Groove

Catskill Craftsmen 14-1/2-Inch Poly Cutting Board Paddle with GrooveThe 14 1/2 inch length includes the handle, which leaves a very small cutting area. The juice groove is also quite shallow, and overflowed easily with the juices from 2 hamburgers. When we took it out of the dishwasher, it had warped. Still usable, but not the product that I had expected (and needed).

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 8-Inch Bread Knife

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 8-Inch Bread Knifeif you like bread and don't cut it 24h hours a day, buy this knive instead of the 4 star version.

why?

the twin select are nice sharp knives

it is a bread knive, you don't use it so often like a chef knive!

the handling is fine

it's cheap

I own 2 twin selects and 4 4 stars. And must say the handling of fourstar is better and you want to have the filet knive or chefs knive from this series, or better some japanese knieve ( way sharper, but hard to maintain, I'm lazy), but for cutting bread, go with this one, the handling is not so important for cutting bread, and it does'nt squeeze my ciabatta or french bread!

I sent this knife to my son who is a baker by profession--he loves this knife. It doesn't mash the bread and cuts through crusty crusts! I higly recommend it to anyone.

If you're not a professional chef, then this is probably the most expensive bread knife you've ever looked at. But if you slice bread (or, say, watermelon) on a daily basis, it will quickly pay for itself. It's sharp, has a good feel, and will last a very long time. If you only slice bread occasionally, then you might want to consider the J.A. Henckels International bread knife instead.

Global G-9 - 8-3/4 inch, 22cm Bread Knife

Global G-9 - 8-3/4 inch, 22cm Bread KnifeMy Global has been slicing bread for three years now and guests still comment that it's "a really sharp knife". A low-carb disbeliever, and living near Seattle bakeries that are serious about their product, I eat lots of bread. Much mileage on the knife and it still melts through hard-crust Toscano Loaves like they were Wonderbread. Two more of these knives have been purchased for wedding gifts. Followup shows that the newlywed recipients didn't know that there were special knives just for cutting bread and are using this wonderful knife for cutting up everything. And love it.

Global knives are really awesome. This knife is amazingly sharp. Due to my own carelessness, I have actually cut my finger twice with this knife. I can assure you it goes through bread and finger with ease.

More seriously, because it is one peice, it is easy to clean and looks awesome. The feel is great in my hand and the knife is balanced.

This was the second Global knife I ever bought. I've had it for many years, and the serrated blade keeps it cutting like the day I first took it out of the package.

Besides cutting bread, which it handles in a Godly fashion, this has always been my knife of choice when cutting large roasts, turkeys, meatloaf, and even cakes. The serrated blade helps grip the meat as it slices, allowing for a perfectly thin piece every time. And with the meatloaf (as well as pates and terrines if you're savvy with the culinary lingo), it's the best tool to use without worry of the meat crumbling as you make each slice. I love using it for cake and even cheese cake because the long thin blade allows you to cut from end to end in one long slice rather than hacking at it with smaller knives that just weren't meant for the job.

So whether you're looking for a specific knife for your bread or roast cutting needs, or just another pretty knife to add to your collection, this is the knife for you.

Want Global G-9 - 8-3/4 inch, 22cm Bread Knife Discount?

I own several bread/serrated knives: a Henckels 8'' bread knife, a Wusthof 10.25'' slicer, 3 versions of Victorinox wavy edge knives, and a Global bread knife. All are excellent knives and one cannot complain about owning either of them. I use the 20-years old Henckels mostly for cheese, the rest for bread. For tomatoes I definitely reach for a Victorinox knife. As a bread knife, Global wins easily, by a very wide margin. It also looks fabulous. Its teeth are somewhat too brutal for tomatoes and hard cheese. If you are willing to spend $100+, go with Global, and consider getting a Victorinox knife for tomatoes, maybe a 7'' chef's knife with a wavy edge. If you want to save $$$, you'll be plenty happy with the Victorinox only, but then you may want to get the 10 inch slicer or the offset bread knife. Think what other silly things you spend $$$ on, a great knife or two is probably a better use of your hard earned cash, and it will have you beaming from happiness, almost forever.

Royal Albert Old Country Roses 3 Pc. Cheese Knife/Spreader Set

Royal Albert Old Country Roses 3 Pc. Cheese Knife/Spreader SetWhile the Royal Albert/Country Roses flatware and serveware does not match my silverware, it's a stand-alone type pattern. I like to set out a buffet for family holiday dinners, and I will have the table set with my silverware, but on the buffet table, I like to put out the side and main dishes, as well as the desserts. I have ordered all the Royal Albert serving pieces just to use on the buffet table, and they stand alone as beautiful serving pieces. They don't need to match the silverware on the dining room table, they are so striking unto themselves.

Now, if only I could find the perfect tureen to go with the long-handled Royal Albert ladle.

Core Bamboo 1007 Classic Bamboo Pin Stripe Cutting Board, Small

Core Bamboo 1007 Classic Bamboo Pin Stripe Cutting Board, SmallI have a 3 piece set of these, sm, med and large that I bought else where because they were a good price. It was great to have the variety of sizes and they were light weight which I enjoyed. These cutting boards are quite thin compared to the other bamboo cutting boards I have as they are only about 1/3 of the thickness. But be careful because they weaken at the seams where the wood color changes. After wiping them off with a damp cloth followed up with drying them with a dry towel I have to lay them flat until they are completely dry becasue they are so thin they easily warp when places standing up leaning against the wall. In about a month I've had 2 come apart at the seams where they color changes, one I only used a few times to cut lemons on it, split in as I was cutting a lemon. The one I have left is warped from being stood up on it's side. Maybe if I had a space where I could always lay them flat to store them between uses warping wouldn't be an issue. But once again, my other bamboo cutting boards do not warp from being leaned up against the wall.

Epicurean Recycled Cardboard Cutting Board

Epicurean Cutting Surfaces 11-by-9-Inch Recycled Cardboard Cutting Board, NutmegI love this cutting board because it is lightweight, dishwasher-safe, made from recycled cardboard & not a bad price. This size is great when I'm making a salad or a dish with lots of veggies. It seems like a very durable product that will last for years in my kitchen, I'm glad I bought it.

I gave this to my mom. She likes it. The rest of the family likes it. She likes that its dishwasher safe. I like that its easier on her knives than a ceramic cutting board (I have to sharpen the knives). I have a smaller Epicurean cutting board, and I like it as well. Chef's Choice 500 ScissorPro Professional Diamond Hone Scissor Sharpener

Chef's Choice 500 ScissorPro Professional Diamond Hone Scissor SharpenerAll those dull old scissors I collected over the years, as they gradually lost their edge, are now SHARP. I stumbled across this product while looking for a knife sharpener. Since I was about to buy yet another pair of scissors, I decided to try it. It really put a good edge on all my shears (except pinking, nail and hair which it does not sharpen). You have to be somewhat careful holding the blade at the correct angle, as there is a bit of wiggle room under the guide. One practice run with a cheap pair of scissors should suffice, however, and it is wonderful to have really sharp scissors again. Lots of them!

Heavy little machine, this is good. The text mentions it sharpens knifes **(WRONG)** It only sharpens sissors. Ran about 10 pairs thru it and amazing even some pairs the kids used to cut wire with were honed clean of chips in the blade and were razor sharp after. Beware if you have knife edge sissors they include an attachment to do them make sure you use it. Very satisfied with the sharpner. Just wish it did knives too.

After reading the reviews on this product, I had it on my list of 'things I really would like to have someday' for quite a while. I have tons of different types of scissors, everything from kitchen shears, sewing scissors, craft scissors for all types of crafts and crochet projects, and detail scissors for scrapbooking and card making... along with lots of childrens scissors for the grandkids to use. Seemed like everytime I picked up a pair, they were dull, and I was constantly having to buy new pairs, tossing the old ones in a box...with the thought that someday I would figure out how the heck to sharpen those in a reasonable way. Well, 'someday' arrived. I saved my money up, to finally purchase the Chef's Choice 500 ScissorPro. I read the instructions, hauled out my box of scissors, washed the goo and glu off them first, and proceeded to give it a try, starting with my least fav pair first to practice on (a pair that had a small knick in one blade). I used a papertowel to try a test cut before sharpening. It not only wouldn't cut the towel, it bent it rather than cut, lol. Then after sharpening the pair... voilaaaa...it cut like a charm...cleanly and consistently with each snip (though on this pair, I did run it through several times to even out the knick in the blade)! AMAZING!! So I moved onto the next pair, and the next. Time after time, doing test cuts before and after, on the paper towel, with each pair. AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING... did I say AMAZING?! It worked so well, on literally every pair I sharpened, that I took it over to our kid's houses, had them haul out all their pairs, and sharpened theirs for them too. Now they're saving up for one, as they would like their own. I thought the price was a bit high, but considering how much I've spent over the years on scissors (and gas to have to go out shopping for more), I feel it's worth the money. I only wish I would have had this product years ago, before spending so much on scissors over the years. We also have the knife sharpener (a separate product... this scissor sharpener can't be used for knives)... but the knife sharpener works very well too. Now if they can just invent a product like this for pinking shears and decorative edge scissors.... and toenail clippers.... (lol) Oh yes, almost forgot, the product arrived in a very timely manner, as well. Chef's Choice 500 ScissorPro Professional Diamond Hone Scissor Sharpener

This product is wonderful. It was easy to use and does a great job on all my scissors, big or small. I practiced first on my inexpensive scissors but quickly moved on to my sewing scissors. This is an alternative to the expense of professional sharpening.

Want Chef's Choice 500 ScissorPro Professional Diamond Hone Scissor Sharpener Discount?

I purchased this sharpener because the Chef's Choice knife sharpener is wonderful. The scissors sharpener is not so wonderful. It is capable of one angle on the coarse side and two angles on the fine side. If you have scissors with the angle it was made for then it's great. If you have scissors with the "knife edge" angle, there is an adapter for the fine side only. Therefore, if you cut a pin, you can't use the coarse side. If you have different scissors yet, if will completely ruin them. It is quite helpful to take the scissors apart to fit them into the machine.

Fiesta 996 5-Piece Flatware Sets, Service for 1

Fiesta Rose 996 5-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 1We have a full line of Fiesta dishware and thought having the matching flatware would be nice. After a year of standard use and dishwashing, about 1/3 of the flatware is unusable. The upside is that it is cheap and replaceable. But count me among those who would rather pay more for something that lasts. We are in the process of ditching the Fiesta flatware line and moving to something more robust.

PROS: Retro Stylish. Inexpensive compared to quality flatware.

CONS: Very poorly made, Expensive if you need to replace 1/3 of flatware ever year.

I saw the other review here, and I felt I should put in my two cents, as my experience as been so different.

Perhaps the lots of flatware vary radically, but I've had flatware in eight different colors for about six years now, and have had absolutely zero problems, except the plastic on one fork is starting to come loose. No splotches, no breaking, nothing.

I will note that I DO NOT have a dishwasher. Perhaps that makes the difference.

I got service for 8 as a wedding present. That was 5 years ago. There are rust spots all over the steel and the plastic has broken on almost every piece. It started the first year I had them. I finally got new flatware this X-mas and am so happy to be rid of the bulky broken Fiestaware.

This is the ONLY Fiestaware I've been unhappy with. My 18 mo. old son "helps" me with putting the dishes away and though something gets dropped everytime, nothing has broken.

9 piece Sushi Gift Set Green

9 piece Sushi Gift Set GreenI bought this as a gift for my fiance so we can make sushi together and I love it!! The dishes are beautiful, the knife is sharp, and the chopsticks are great as well. I would recommend purchasing a book about making sushi if you're new to the art, as it only comes with a page of colored instructions, but other than that, this is a great buy.

I thought this set was very nice. I think the products in it are top quality. The only thing I would have liked to see in it is a book on how to prepare sushi.

I ordered this as a gift for a very creative friend that recently discovered sushi. The set itself is awesome. However, whomever packaged this did a really terrible job. If it is supposed to be a set, I thought it would have come in a packaged box, or something nice. Instead, it was shoved into a USPS box, which damaged the box that the knife comes in. I gave it 4 stars though because I am really hoping the packaging was a fluke because the set is really pretty.

LeBrun 24-Piece Laguiole-Style Cutlery Set, Ivory

LeBrun 24-Piece Laguiole-Style Cutlery Set, IvoryJust got this set in the mail today. Good weight on them, heavier than I expected. Did some research and they are suppose to be 18/8, but they fell more like 18/10 in my hands. (Don't quote me on this) However, when compared to my other Laguiole steak knives, the bee on this set is different. Different detailing. This makes me question the authenticity of the product. Am I being too neurotic? I mean, Amazon wouldn't sell fake ones... would they??? Also, the set did not come in their usual wooden box...I mean, I don't need the box nor do I have room to store the darn thing, but does this mean this is not from the real LeBrun??? I have more knives than my old block could accommodate. I've been searching for a block. But every one I've seen in my local market were part of a knife set. I was really pleased to find this one at Amazon. It is a nice quality item. Heavy and sure. The slots are long enough to cover all the blades and a sharpening steel. None of the knife blades extend the length of the block. I originally thought the price was too steep; but , after checking with other online retailers realized that it was the best price on the market. If a knife block is all you need this is an excellent item. There is also a larger 20 slot version if you require storage for a set of steak knives.

Dansk Torun Stainless-Steel 3-Piece Hostess SetI have the serving set, but the current photo is just a bigger picture of the Dansk Torun 5-piece dinner set Dansk Torun 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1. Shun Kaji Fusion 8-Inch Chef's Knife

Shun Kaji Fusion 8-Inch Chef's KnifeThis knife was a birthday gift from my husband who tends to buy things because they look "cool" and not necessarily because they are the best at what they do. Let's just say I opened this knife up and thought, "HOLY COW, Now that's a knife!"

Here are my observations after several months of use:

The substantial blade is razor sharp-and has stayed that way. It slices through tomatoes and london broil like a hot blade through butter-no "sawing" motion required. I typically have a knife for each job around the kitchen, but this knife does the job of several, quite easily.

I was initially surprised how well the handle fit in my hand. The handle has grooves where you fingers rest, and I thought that perhaps they would feel oddly placed, as my hands are quite small. This wasn't a problem... and the knife felt very natural.

I did a little research, and read that the design of this handle is unique in that it places your hand in "the perfect position in relation to the blade for less effort and fatigue." Hmmm... I don't know if I have ever felt "fatigue" while using my other knives, but I do see now how I was never holding the handle properly, forcing the knife with pressure to cut, chop and slice. Knife-science...who knew?!?!

I find that my other knives are getting little use in my kitchen. I reach for this knife again and again.

I'm hinting to my husband that another knife in this line would make a great Christmas gift.

Overall sharp blade, good heft and right size. If you take care of this knife it will last a lifetime.

Handle: I have small hands and honestly some knifes have such a long handle it feels a bit awkward. When I used this knife, I felt like Goldilocks, it was the right size. The handle has these grooves which helps with placement of your fingers, allowing you to cut with minimal effort. I was able to cut thin slices of salami without thought and no sawing motion. With my other chef's knife, I always had to concentrate on the right placement as it did not feel natural. No such worries with this one.

Blade: Aesthetic wise, I love the designlooks like it could have come right out of my Fable game. The blade is very sharp and it cut through the Thanksgiving ham as if it was butter with minimal sawing motion.

Weight: There is a good weight to the knife, heavy enough to be substantial but not so heavy that it is burdensome.

The knife is expensive but worth it because it is a great staple knife that will work for the majority of your needs in the kitchen.

I admit that I have a bit of a steel fetish which is limited by financial restraints. That being said, I took a chance and treated myself to the Shun Kaji Fusion. The shipping was quick and tonight I had an opportunity to use the knife to cut potatoes for home made french fries. I have used Wustoff knives for many years in the kitchen and have been satisfied. This however was a completely new cutting sensation. Very minimal pressure was required to glide through the russet potatoes and the pieces did not stick at all. I have larger hands (6'8") and the knife fit very well, my wife (5'2") tried the Shun and she was amazed at how balanced it was, which speaks to the manufacturing of the implement. Expensive...yes, but fit, form and finish are immaculate. If you want to cut a tree...a can and then have to slice a tomato perhaps not. If you want a knife that will be a cherished, beyond surgically sharp and designed to last generations, look no further.

OXO Good Grips Multi-Purpose Pastry Scraper/Chopper

OXO Good Grips Multi-Purpose Pastry Scraper/ChopperUpdate 8/25/07: I love this so much that I bought a second one! Now I have one for baking and another for everything else. When I cook big meals, I tire of having to rewash it.

This is my second bench scraper. The first was a single sheet of metal that curved to form a handle. The measurements were painted on it. I probably paid $3 for it. After repeated use and trips to the diswasher, the measurements began to wear off and the bottom started to get uneven.

I am so thankful for this version by OXO! There's the obvious sturdy handle, but what I love the most is that the measurements are etched instead of painted. I have to have the measurements because I use bench scrapers to measure the thicknes of dough in addition to cutting product (you'll never cut brownies or bars again with a knife) and cleaning the board. This product is a lot heavier than my previous version and I like the weighty feel.

Dishwasher safe.

Yes, it's good at what it does: scraping. As an added bonus, there are measurements on the scraper in case you really need to get precise with the dough you're scraping off the counter. This thing does a great job of cleaning up the countertop after kneading bread and getting flour all over the place. So it really does do more than scraping: you can use it to divide dough, clean gunk off the counter, release sticky dough from a smooth countertop, measuring something that's less than 4" long, fight ninjas, etc.

Buy OXO Good Grips Multi-Purpose Pastry Scraper/Chopper Now

I've been very happy with this scrapper.

It's worth knowing that unlike many scrapers this one relies on being sharp instead of being thin and flexible to scrape. I'm not sure if I find this to be an advantage or a disadvantage. It makes it a more multi-functional product for sure; however, I think it might slightly compromise the dough-scrapping-from-counter flagship role. I'm certainly not going to try and find a different scraper, just thought the difference was worth mentioning.

The markings on the blade are very helpful and the nice thick handle makes it easy to use.

If you chop a lot of vegetables and herbs as I do and use the knife to transport them off the cutting board and into the pan, you end up with a dull knife. You could of course use your hand, but this is one of those times when the human hand is not the best tool.

This is when the OXO Good Grips 73281 Pastry Scraper comes really handy (pun intended.) It scrapes the cutting board or the counter top no matter what you throw at it...pastry, herbs, chopped vegetables, fresh egg pasta ... you name it.

The Scraper's handle is comfortable and sturdy, the blade is stiff and appropriately thin at the edge without been sharp and there is even a ruler at the edge to help you in measuring when following recipes. Great tool.

Want OXO Good Grips Multi-Purpose Pastry Scraper/Chopper Discount?

I use this for pizza dough cutting and also to scrap the counters clean of flour. It works quite well for both operations. I'm not certain how great it is for pastries. Seems quite nice. OXO usually makes high quality items, and this is no exception.

Chopstick/ Knife Rest - White

Chopstick/ Knife Rest - WhiteI bought these in hopes of complementing a set of chopsticks I recently purchased. For a buck, they're really not bad. On one of them, there was a rough surface (probably where they'd been broken from the mold or something), but other than that, they were pretty good. Before buying, however, take a close look at the shipping rates. I paid $8 bucks to ship $4 worth of merchandise.

Bunmei 4 inch Deba Knife

Bunmei 4 inch Deba KnifeThe knife just has fantastic steel and will take and keep an edge. The blade is wide enough to keep my knuckles off the cutting board, which I like. Am a knife guy and do most of the cooking at our house. Have had other deba style knives, but none with the steel of this brand. I love the one side taper on this style knife as it kicks away the last slice making room on the knife for the next. Having said that, it took a call to a knife shop for me to learn how to get a shaving edge with the one side taper. Now that have learned the trick it's no problem (I use ceramic to hone that edge). Personally, I do most of my kitchen chores now with this knife.
