Cuisinart Ceramic 5-Inch Santoku with Plastic Handle and Break Resistant Blade

Cuisinart Ceramic 5-Inch Santoku with Plastic Handle and Break Resistant BladeI prefer doing 8" chef knife duties with a shorter utility knife when I'm cooking for one or two in my closet size kitchen which leaves less room to maneuver a larger knife. Ceramic means I probably won't have to sharpen it, or even worry that leaving it around dirty or wet will ruin the blade. This fat rubbery oval handle is more comfortable than any triple tang rectangular handle, and while much lighter than a steel knife, the weight is evenly distributed. I know the tomato thin slice test is standard, but for me the real test was being able slice clean through my nori seaweed jacketed sushi without disturbing it's content and this knife did the trick where all my other straight edge or serrated knives had failed (always re-wet your knife between slices into a sushi roll since the starch inhabits each new cut). A local bed and bath chain may have this cheaper than what you'll find online. Cuisinart was smart to include the plastic blade jacket for added storage safety from cuts, portability, and help prevent the blade from getting shattered between uses. If you are still skeptical, see all the glowing reviews here on what appears to be a very similar utility size knife; Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4-Inch Utility Knife, White Blade yet the deeper Cuisinart blade is safer for fine slicing work as it helps keep the blade safely angled against your knuckles thus away from your fingertips so if you want a shallower blade, perhaps you should play it safe and consider a shorter paring knife instead.

These knives are junk. Chipped cutting up vegetables the second day. Thought it was a defective one, purchased another and it chipped cutting fruit the same day. Will never purchase another ceramic knife too fragile and not perfected yet.

Love the knife! I will be buying another one in hopes that the one i got was somehow defective. Only had the knife one week, using it 4 times and it's chipped twice cutting fruits.

I really don't understand the complaints about this knife. My wife got me one for Fathers Day last year. It was incredibly sharp and cut much more smoothly than my much more expensive steel knives. Although the knife did eventually get dull enough that I could run my finger on the edge, it still cut through meats and vegetables with ease. It lasted 1 1/2 years before my son broken it trying to crush garlic (he learned the hard way that ceramic does not bend). Maybe these others did not understand the limitations of ceramic.

We just bought two more, one for our house and one for my son to take to college.

I loved this nice when I first bought it from Bed Bath etc. It works great to chop veggies and even tomotatoes until one fatal day when it chipped. I was crushed as it worked better than most of my metal knives. I was just about to purchase a bigger one. Now..I don't think it will be worth the investment. I would rather pay top dollar for something that lasts than something that works great for a "minute". Wish it came with a warranty or made to not chip.

Weston 61-0901-W 9 Inch Heavy Duty Food Slicer

Weston 61-0901-W Heavy Duty Food 9-Inch SlicerIt's a geat meat slicer. The 9" blade makes slicing large pieces of meat a breeze. The suctions on the base keep it from moving while it's running. Also, the clean up takes minutes. Thank you Weston for a great product.

Looked all over for a slicer wasn't impressed with what I saw.

When this slicer arrived it looked very good and when I put it to work it did the job just as I wanted. Cleanup is a snap and it doesn't take up the whole counter.

Looks like the person that designed this machine had actually used one and tried to make it the best he could. For the money it is a five star machine and I am impressed.

I bought this food slicer due to it's large blade size and it's claimed more powerful 150 watt motor. When I received it I let the unit warm to room temperature and tested it. The motor growled loudly and the blade spun slowly at about 40 RPM. I called the included manufacturers 800 number to report this. The CSR said they would send a replacement and a pickup slip for the defective unit, which they did. The only problem there was it was a residential pick up which still cost me $9.00 freight to exchange. When I received the replacement I tested it right away. It seemed to work properly until I put it to the test. I had prepared, the night before, a 5 pound sirloin roast beef to make Chicago style Italian beef sandwiches for my super bowl party the next day. Even though the meat was well chilled and tender the slicer could barely cut a clean slice. About a third of the way through slicing the roast the blade slowed considerably and then the drive mechanism broke. The price paid for the ordered pizzas for my guests exceeded the price paid for this slicer. Needless to say it was two strikes and Westin was out. I returned the unit to Amazon and received a full refund. I would advise not buying this slicer as it's quality is dubious.

Only have had for a week sliced some deer up for jerky worked great on slightly frozen meat(makes i easier to slice that way). easy to clean up. Watch the blade when cleaning is very sharp a fillet glove would be a good idea for the hand that handles it and holds the meat. Only thing is the motor could use a little more power it got slightly warm cutting up 8 lbs of meat 1/4" wide for my jerky. I would recommend it for anyone. Have about 40 lbs of deer left to do any problems with it i will post them.

I've had two slicers before this one and both worked well, for what I paid for them. This one has a great motor and a belt drive, stainless steel food tray tilts for easy cleaning. I love the adjustable thickness control for slicing from deli-thin to over 1/2-inch..., Best Part, it does not move well slicing the meat as my other two did. On/Off safety switch is covered BIG PLUS and cleans up very well...

The one VERY BAD THING is the press that goes between your hand and the food you are slicing. It does not have a track to hold (LOCK) it on the sliding carriage, so when you are pushing the carriage forward, you have to hold down the food press while you are pushing the food into the blade. If you forget to do this, you will find your hand in the VERY SHARP BLADE!!!

If you have used a food slicer before, this is a very good one, for the money. I have no problem using it, and like it very much, but I warn you, IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST SLICER..., BUY A BETTER ONE!

Look at the photos very closely and read the reviews! This is a great food slicer for the money it costs. I also highly recommend you get kevlar gloves for your hands if this is the first slicer you are buying, they come in very handy when you are cleaning the blade also!

I would have given it 5 stars but the food press does not lock on the carriage!

Rada Cutlery Grapefruit Knife, Made in USA

Rada Cutlery Grapefruit Knife, Made in USA, Aluminum HandleGood, basic grapefruit knife, does the job. Also good for removing the skin from slices of melon or pineapple (just slide along the inside of the slice near the skin).

It's probably my fault for not really knowing how to handle this thing, but it's so sharp it whacks right through the membrane between the sections. If you're not careful it will poke through the whole skin and into YOUR skin. I've never complained about a knife being too sharp, but I'm really awkward with the shape and sharpness of this. If you're accustomed to this type of grapefruit knife, you'll love this one. I think I just need more practice.

How refreshing to find something that is well made in the USA, well priced, and does the job. I can't imagine how one would make a better grapefruit knife. Those ones with blades on both ends are silly and possibly dangerous. I often use it to cut sections of large oranges as well as grapefruits. And it has a lifetime warranty. Very nice.

I love red grapefruit and big, sweet oranges, but really hate to peel them, especially if I have to fight to separate the peel from the pulp -which is the only part I want to eat. I can see why they give it a lifetime guarantee: The blade is thick and sturdy-looking and cuts like a dream. I expect to get many years of good use from this knife and consider it a great bargain!

Pfaltzgraff Winter Frost 20-Piece Flatware Set

Pfaltzgraff Winter Frost 20-Piece Flatware SetThis is lovely flatware. The oversized handles are not heavy and feel comfortable in your hands. But the same oversized handles make it impossible to store them in the flatware organizer in my kitchen drawer. I'm going to have to locate a basket or tray to hold the flatware between servings.

I purchased this set on Sept 2006 and while it "was" a beautiful set, it is beautiful no longer. Over the past two years, the pattern has completely worn off half the pieces. The silver rings at the top of the handles have broken on several pieces with a few having been lost, leaving me with an ugly incomplete piece. Two pieces have handles that have cracked.

These have never been in a dishwasher and while used regularly, have never been abused.

I am extremely disappointed with this set and after reading reviews on similar styles of flatware from Pfalzgraff, it appears they have serious production problems with these sets.

I do NOT recommend you buy this or similarly made flatware items from Pfalzgraff.

Messermeister Pro-Touch 6-Inch Cheese and Tomato Knife

Messermeister Pro-Touch 6-Inch Cheese and Tomato KnifeHave been looking for a tomato knife at a resonable price for a long time, bought 2 as we have 2 homes and I am a gadget person. I can't help myself. Love this knife.

We first saw a knife similar to this in Southern California. We bought one there and later (now in Northern California) began to wish we had another. I searched on line and found this knife which is a different brand. I use it almost every day. As indicated, it is particularly good for tomatoes and cheese. There are a variety of other uses. For example bread and cakes, particularly angel food cake. We think it is better than the first one!

I have never owned a cheese knife before this one. I really like this one. It slices swiss and provalone exceptionally well. I think I will use my sharp knives for tomatoes, though and I would never consider grinding down the serrations. The cheese doesn't stick to the knife, which is exactly what I wanted.

Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafe

Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafeThis is a good safety cover for those who store their knives in a drawer rather than a block.

There are some other brands of blade covers or blade safes that are less safe -that loosely cover one long side of the blade; it seems their purpose is to protect the blade from getting dulled or nicked when stored in a drawer, next to other things. This cover does provide that type of protection, but in addition it covers all 4 sides making it safer for fingers rummaging about.

Before ordering this, I was worried about the sizing, because another reviewer had mentioned an issue with the size. However, the cover I received seems fine. This cover is sold by multiple sellers here. I bought mine from Amazon, rather than from one of the Amazon Marketplace resellers. I don't know whether that makes a difference.

The label on this says "Knife Safe" (TM) by "Lamson Sharp", and says that it holds 4-6" knives, which seems accurate. The 4-6" refers to the blade length, not including the handle.

Measurements: The interior is a max of 6 1/8 inches at the longest point, but the sides are tapered towards the point end -the last 1.5 inches are tapered, angled narrower, almost to a point.

Now, about the height capacity: When I say height, I am picturing a knife in use, perpendicular to a cutting board, and height would be the measurement in between the cutting board and the top edge of the knife blade. A blade height of 1.25 inches fits inside this cover, except that the cover is tapered towards the point end. A 6-inch knife blade that is not pointed at the tip might not fit. Some Santoku-style knives are too tall for this. And definitely would not fit one of those tall Asian-style cleavers.

For comparison purposes, this is for a knife that is a bit larger all around compared to a typical steak knife. It is OK with a steak knife, but there is space leftover. It is too large for a paring knife; it would not be held securely.

There are little rubber pads, on the insides of the cover, to hold the knife securely. The little rubber pads seem likely to fall out; perhaps it is the dry climate here. However, it easy to put the rubber pads back in place, as long as they don't get lost. I am thinking of adding glue.

This seems to be made of polypropylene mainly.

I would recommend this to most people, except for those with significant arthritis in their hands. Unfastening the clasps requires some strength, when opening this knife case.

These brand of knife covers is my favorite. Once the cover is on, it is safely put in a drawer with other utensils without the worry of being cut. The snap lock is a little tricky to open at first but once you figure it out, its not a problem at all. We currently own 4 different sizes of these.Lamson & Goodnow 6-Inch KnifeSafe

I purchased this knife to house my 6" Santoku. Product dimensions are stated to be 4x1x6. I could only assume that 6" was for the length of the blade, making 4" the natural choice for how deep a blade it could store. The deepest blade you could possibly fit in this is 1.5". Yes, I measured.

I will be returning post-haste.

CulinHome Melrose Collection 8-Inch Chef's Knife

CulinHome Melrose Collection 8-Inch Chef's KnifeI like this knife, but it only stayed sharp for maybe a few weeks of constant use and then had to be sharpened. other then that, nice and heavy, sleek look, great grip, but you will need to invest in a knife sharpener.

The rest of my knife set is cheap junk, but I couldn't stand for the primary Chef's knife, which accounts for about 85% of my kitchen knife usage, to be so junky. I replaced my set's knife with the CulinHome Melrose Collection 8-Inch Chef's Knife, and couldn't be happier.

I've gotta say this item is severely underrated, and perhaps that's because at its current price point it is targeted towards those who want a cheapy knife that they can toss into the dishwasher. No good knife is going to be completely dishwasher safe. This knife is somewhat in-between, meaning you can let it sit with water on it for several minutes without worry, but still needs care and really shouldn't be tossed in a dishwasher (although it is pretty cheap, so you decide if the convenience is worth it).

The knife easily, and most importantly, cleanly cuts through most objects thrown at it. My previous knife had a terrible habit of not cutting through bell pepper completely, meaning just a tiny bit of skin would be attached, which meant when dicing I would have to go back and manually pull pieces apart. This goes through bell peppers with ease, but that's not really too hard a task. Carrots, squash, zucchini, it cuts cleanly and easily. The only thing I can think of that even gave resistance was a whole raw potato, but it still went through pretty easy and cleanly, just felt like it was cutting through a sticky substance. It cuts neatly through meat and poultry.

The knife also does not hold an edge very well, but it does in fact sharpen very well provided you have the right tool; I recommend the AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener.

The solid body is a pro and a con. The pro is the easy clean; with how sloppy I am preparing raw chicken, I couldn't imagine having a wood handle again. There's also not really any area for the knife to "break" at; if anything, the tip would chip off, but I couldn't imagine a way for the handle to break. The largest con happens to be it can be slippery. I've never had it slip, and at least it is ergonomically designed so you can grip it, but I could see if you didn't have a strong firm grip and your hand was wet, this could easily slip.

Not getting too specific or scientific with exact measurements, I can say that this performs at a class above its price point, but not at a professional level. Because of this, I can say the knife is a great addition to amateur and home chefs, as it makes cooking far easier and more enjoyable, so long as you don't run it in the dishwasher, remember to clean and wipe off after use, and purchase a good knife sharpener.

I am not a chef. I am a regular Mom who cooks for her family. I love this knife. It's beautiful and has a good weight, not too heavy. The packaging says it's "made from surgical grade stainless steel..." It's "smooth and seamless design with no joints and gaps will prevent bacteria growth." I recommend it.

Update: I took off one star because it's acquired some rust stains. I wash it usually in the dish washer.

I like the aesthetics of the knife, it has a wickedly sharp edge, and it's comfortable to use. However, the balance is off, for me too blade-heavy to become my everyday knife. Still a nice value, and I definitely do use it often, if not all the time.

Oenophilia Barracuda Corkscrew

Oenophilia Barracuda CorkscrewSome might call me a seasoned professional when it comes to opening wine bottles. Not for a job, more of a hobby. I went through countless wine bottle openers including the rabbit, old school with the arms, and the powered ones that charge up. All that said, the screw on the rabbit breaks over time and the powered ones stop charging / working over time. This one works. Period. It does not require batteries, it does not break, it works. I'm not sure what the other review was referring to when they were talking about getting wounds from this.. All you need is a little forearm strength and the desire to partake in some vino. It's less than $10 and I've had it now for 3 yrs.

I'm not sure what product the previous reviewer is talking about, but the one I have is nothing like what he describes. Mine doesn't have any mysterious protrusions or sharp bits of metal anywhere. I think it's an excellent little corkscrew with a good feel and a nice design.

Buy Oenophilia Barracuda Corkscrew Now

I purchased this corkscrew at a specialty wine shop.

It looks real fancy even though it's made in China.

How it is supposed to work is it has a folding out edge that rests against the lip of the top of the bottle's neck after inserting the screw into the cork. This is a point of leverage with which you are to use it as a crowbar to remove the cork. The edge has two minute points of contact against the glass, so there is tremendous force against the bottle's lip. You will hear the glass start to fragment as you leverage the handle, and if you continue, you can end up breaking the bottle, severing your arteries, and getting a trip to the hospital assuming you survive at all. It is fundamentally flawed and dangerous in its design and should be withdrawn from sale immediately before people die.

Alternatively you can attempt to use it without the lever as a conventional corkscrew, wrap your hand around it, and pull. In this mode, you will discover that hidden beneath the folding lever in the above photo there is a sharp metal edge that will cut into your skin, causing excruciating pain.

Avoid this product at all costs.

Wenzel Chow Utensil Set

Wenzel Chow Utensil SetI suppose I should have taken a closer look at the picture before I purchased this, but I liked the design so much and focused on that instead. The spoon is oddly large. It's more of a serving spoon than something that would fit nicely in the mouth for the basic eating I purchased it for. The knife is also small in comparison to the other utensils. Its cutting edge is quite short and the bottle opener near the cutting edge makes for an odd usage. Nevertheless, I'll be making due with it during my travels this summer. I'll see if it ends up in the trash afterward or if it will continue with me on other adventures.

I was hoping for a replacement for the set I that I got over 40 years as a Boy Scout and recently misplaced. This is NOT it. The fork and knife easily bent. I could not imagine even trying to cut anything of substance with them. Do NOT buy this item.

Buy Wenzel Chow Utensil Set Now

The thing that I have most noticed is the serrations on the knife; mostly I've noticed that there really aren't any.

The one side does have groves in it that look like serrations but when you run a finger over the "sharp" part of the blade you do not feel them. This effectively means you are trying to cut things with a flat, dull piece of metal. Even soft objects like banana peels cut with difficulty.

Great design, sturdy enough for rugged use, and they are light weight. Not sure what else you're looking for in a review of a knife fork and spoon.

I use this set as my alternate utensils. There is nothing more fustrating than going into the kitchen drawer and there are no clean utensils. After I uses these I quickly rinse them and put in a special place where no kids or wife can find them. Don't use these for cutting steak or anything that will cause you to have to use a lot of force. The fork is a little thin and you will have to reshape it from time to time. The knife and spoon are made a little thicker.

Shun Pro Deba Knife

Shun Pro 8-1/4-Inch Deba KnifeThis knife is VERY sharp--I have several other Shun knives, but this one in particular is sharper than a razor. It is effortless to cut with, owing in large part to the size and heft of the blade. It is a lot easier to maintain than the classic or Onion series, and I actually use it more than those now. It is just the right shape for my hand and the blade shape lends itself to paper thin slices of tomatoes, onions, and potatoes. Great tool if you cook a lot, and spend time in prep. Highly recommended, even at the price. Just beware, it is extremely sharp and it will get you if you forget what you're using--

This knife holds its razor sharp edge so much better than my last knife, I still cant believe how sharp it is and how easy it is to use.

I do hand wash, as I don't want to lose the temper, but what a treat to use!

Victorinox 7-1/2" Blade Restaurant Cleaver with Fibrox Handle

Victorinox 7-1/2' Blade Restaurant Cleaver with Fibrox HandleThis cleaver seems to be made well but doesn't have the heft for the job I bought it to do, cut open heavy squash such as butternut and spaghetti. I purchased this knife, like some others apparently did, for processing heavy vegetable matter. In that role, it doesn't perform completely admirably. It's slightly curved blade shape means that it never sits flat on the cutting board, making if difficult to ensure that you've cut all the vegetable matter, even if you do make it through to the cutting board. However, that being said, it is a great deboner and I've used it on whole, semi-processed chicken to debone. In that role, it does serve admirably. It has a heavy, chisel shaped blade, which helps it crack and power through bone. It's steel is good, but slightly difficult to resharpen. The handle is both ergonomic and comfortable. This is not my first Victorinox cooking knife, and both have served me well. Also the curved blade-shape will present your knuckles to the surface of the cutting board if you make a full stroke. So, if you are chopping rows of carrots or something similarly tough, if you have fairly thick fingers as I do, you will be banging your fingers against the cutting board, but again I must stress that that is not what the knife was intended to do. If you want chop lots of vegetables buy a regular thin chef's knife or an also thin vegetable cleaver. I hope this helps.

Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Hollow-Ground Steak-Knife Set

Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Hollow-Ground Steak-Knife SetIf you are looking for a great set of quality steak knives, these knives are "the bomb" I highly recommend them. The knife feels great in your hand and slices through meat like it's butter, requiring very little effort. The knives are quality made, balanced and sharpened to perfection. The hollow ground adds just enough of a countered surface that the meat slides off of the knife and doesn't stick while slicing.

To keep them in great shape and lasting a lifetime, always wash by hand (watch out they are sharp!) and never, ever put them in the dishwasher.

For home, these are way nicer than you'll find in most high end restaurants. They are very well finished, balanced, and cut through steaks with precision. If you've been to Outback Steakhouse, they are about 1/2 of the size and weight of their restaurant steak knives.

Look at the "Pro Series" of Wusthof knives for possibly the best deal in a matching, well-balanced set of cast knives. They've been the "house knives" in many restaurants and recently made available to home consumers. The handles are rubberized with safety grips. I bought nine different Pro Series knives with the classic steak knives and a 35-slot cherry Wusthof wood block. I couldn't be more pleased with the affordable combined quality. The 10 inch Wusthof ceramic "steels" work best for fine sharpening cast blades by using a 20 degree or less angle. That angle is about half or less of this large letter "V". It simply takes longer to sharpen forged blades.

The main difference in forged and cast is how long they hold an edge. It only takes 5-6 swipes on both sides to renew the factory edge to cast blades with the ceramic "steel". I figured if busy restaurant chefs can stop for a moment for a few sharpening swipes, I could live with it at home, and much better afford the bigger Wusthof set of the exact knives I preferred. The ceramic sharpener also looks and sounds cool in a home kitchen environment to guests. These are a huge improvement over most of my older Chicago Cutlery set that found a new home in my workshop. The other Chicago Cultery knives I kept in the kitchen fit very well into the Wusthof block.

After lots of research and buying a set of Wsthof knives that came with their lower end Gourmet Steak Knives, I feel as though these Steak Knives are the best you can get, both very sharp and cuts through steak like butter, the hollow ground is nice since the steak falls off the knife rather than sticking to it.

Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool

Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi ToolWow, I have never had such an easy time peeling and slicing a kiwi. Great tool for that tricky little fruit, and it also worked well for slicing a banana while I was at it. I have tried using a spoon in the past, this is sooooooo much easier and neater.

For years, I have ignored two of my favorite fruits; kiwi fruit and oranges. But no longer as I have discovered the Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool. I don't eat a lot of oranges because I don't like biting into the orange to start the peeling process. Nor do I like getting the rind and oils under my fingernails. With the Zyliss Citrus/Kiwi Tool all you have to do is score the orange vertically and horizontally with the fin and then use the scoop to remove the peel.

Now for Kiwi's they are notorious for being time consuming and difficult to peel. With this tool you simply cut the kiwi in half with the serrated edge and then use the curved end to scoop down between the fruit and peel. In a matter of seconds, your fruit is ready to eat.

This has become an indispensible tool in my kitchen. The Citrus/Kiwi Took is a well designed, quality tool at a reasonable price.

I bought this to peel oranges. It doesn't work for that. It may work better on kiwis, since one of the reviewers says it works great for that. But it works very poorly for oranges. There's no comfortable way to hold it, the cutter is thick and doesn't score the rind deeply enough, and the blade that's supposed to slide between the rind and the fruit is so thick that it tears the fruit up. I consider it a waste of drawer space. I would not buy this again. The best peelers I've found are the super cheap skinny ones that I use until the plastic breaks, and then buy another one. They fit in my hand well and the point is just right to score the peel to the right depth, and the other end neatly separates the peel from the fruit.

Got this just for kiwi. It works good but is a little longer than it needs to be just for kiwi, but considering it also peals oranges & such I might need to be that large.Once you get used to it it does really work well.

I bought this tool primarily for oranges. I've tried many different peelers and found this to be far better than others. Now, with any tool it's important to take the time to explore its uses so that it can be used effectively. The design has many features on it, which means lots of choices for how it is used. It is 9 inches long and a bit under 1 inch wide. The dark green part is rubbery and a good place to hold on to. You can really get a good grip when using it because of its size, which I like much more than the cheap skinny peelers.

The only problem I have with it is the super sharp tooth used for peeling. It's so sharp that I nicked my thumb on it recently. This is not a tool for kids. On the other hand, the tooth is thick and made of durable plastic. It will easily outlast the cheap peelers. I just rinse it with soap to clean, there are no grooves or pours to trap food, and at the end of the week I toss it in the dishwasher. It costs more than other peelers, but you get what you pay for here; good design, quality materials, and a satisfying addition to your kitchen.

Classic Nonstick Santoku Knife

Classic Nonstick Santoku KnifeI have one other Good Cook knife for a couple of years and was looking for more. These are great knives. Having the shield is an added benefit.

I also purchase this knife at a local food store. I used this more than my more expensive knives. I hope to have this a long time. Best money I ever spent. Just love it.

I actually picked this up from a local store looking specifically for a santoku blade. This knife totally fits the bill. It cuts everything with absolute ease, even aged, hard cheese it slices like melted butter. It's very sharp, and doesn't seem to dull. I've had this one for a few months now, and use it practically everyday. Cutting vegetables is effortless and works well for meats too! Slicing chicken breasts into strips takes seconds, requiring only one or two strides with the blade. Definitely recommend this to others, and I wouldn't mind having a few more of these in the kitchen myself for when it's dirty.
