This is my second Shun Classic Left-Handed knife (the first was wide santoku). This knife simply rocks. It is very very sharp and fits perfectly in my hand.Really, stop buying over and over $11.99 knifes from retail stores.
p.s. Shun company offers free sharpening (just pay one way shipping). This was my first foray into real high quality knives and that was all it took to make be a believer. This thing is incredibly sharp and cuts better than anything else in my block. I am left-handed so I appreciate that Shun made a variant for me that feels great in my hand.

Hi I just got this paring knife a month ago and only use it a few times before leaving on a deployment. I am not a professional chef just trying to act like one. I am left handed explaining why I got a left handed knife LOL. I will say this knife is very very sharp it will slice a potato as if it was butter. My only issue and it maybe cause I have not used it often enough. Is it pulls to the middle of the potato as if it was a right handed knife. The knife does not seem to have a one sided blade so maybe I was holding it wrong. Again I only had a chance to use it a few times before leaving town.Read Best Reviews of Shun Classic Left-Handed 3-1/2-Inch Stainless-Steel Paring Knife Here

Catskill Craftsmen 14-1/2-Inch Poly Cutting Board Paddle with Groove
The 14 1/2 inch length includes the handle, which leaves a very small cutting area. The juice groove is also quite shallow, and overflowed easily with the juices from 2 hamburgers. When we took it out of the dishwasher, it had warped. Still usable, but not the product that I had expected (and needed).Classic 10" Chef's Knife
My dad owns a broad assortment of knives: some German, some Japanese, some chinese. One of his santoku's is sharper (though more plain in appearance) than his Shun santoku, but it was a gift from a Japanese business partner and the guy who sharpens his knives was jealous and wanted to know where it originated. Ultimately, he has quite a hodgepodge collection of knives that have been accumulated over the years some nice some not, some even falling apart from wear.I'm a pretty young guy (22), but came into an absurd amount of money recently. When it came time to look at buying some knives I decided to buy something I'd be able to enjoy for a very long time (hopefully my lifetime) and to do it before I crowded my kitchen with knives I wished I hadn't purchased. Shuns aren't the nicest knives under the sun, but in the retail market, they're the best you'll find.
Having used my dad's single Shun Classic 7in Hollow Ground Santoku for some time, when it came time to invest in a nice set of edges, I thought of Shun first. Then I went out and researched all the main competitors and tested their knives, Henckels, Wusthofs, and Calphalon. I only tested the high end knives from these respective companies, so I have nothing to say on their cheap counterpart editions.
Compared to Henckels and Wusthofs which are still very fine knives I prefered the edge and construction of Shuns. Shuns are just that extra little bit sharper. When you go to slice into something with a mild skin you notice the difference. When you touch a tomato with a Shun it just slides right in, no sawing, no pressure. The same is true for things like sausage, the outer wrapping cuts before you apply any pressure. Other than that slight bit of cutting power, you probably won't notice the difference. I also tried out some Calphalons which I was actually quite impressed with. They're every bit as sharp as Shuns and quite a bit cheaper. If you're on a budget, but still looking for a great set of knives, seriously give them a look. The only reason I picked Shun over Calphalon was aesthetics. If this isn't important to you, by all means buy the Calphalons.
The first thing I tested this knife out on was some green onions, and what a world of difference between it and my bargin bin Henckel. No effort perfect slices.
This isn't the ideal knife for this purpose, but my Santoku has yet to arrive so I gave this blade a go at mincing garlic. With something as sticky as garlic, the blades steel didn't help at all with keeping things from sticking, so while the design is great, don't expect miracles. This still went very well and I appreciated that a 10" knife can still be so light weight and quick for this kind of work.
Next I used it to score a flank steak to prepare it for a marinade. I actually had to be very careful not to put any pressure on the knife and pull very gently to keep from slicing too deep. During this process I must have accidentally knicked the ziplock I was using to marinate in because it kept leaking all over the counter and I thought I just hadn't shut it, turns out I put a half inch slit in it without even realizing by accident while the knife was just sitting on the cutting board. BE CAREFUL WITH THESE KNIVES THEY ARE SCAREY SHARP!
Finally I used the knife to slice the cooked flank steak nice and thin on a bias. This is the perfect job for a knife like this. Flank steak can be quite tough, but this was done without excessive sawing. The blade made quick easy work of my steak (another first in my kitchen).
These are expensive knives, and compared to Calphalons, overpriced. The blades are beautiful and among the sharpest you can find anywhere. If you have the means I recommend them, you won't be disappointed. I was amazed by the quality from the first cut wich slid through a bannana like a gentle breeze. Did a comparison on a cucumber with a Kyocera ceramic blade and an inexpensive pairer. The high grade knives are worth the extra money. And this one is great looking too!
Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer Set
Finally a knife storage product for drawers that is both affordable and versatile. I wasn't certain that I would be able to make it fit my particular drawer size, but the interlocking tabs fit together to make any size you want. You can really adjust it to match exactly what you need. The knives store so well that I actually gained space in the drawer for other items, not to mention the counter space that is free of the big chunk of firewood that only worked for about ¼ of my knives. Norpro 1155 4-Piece Knife Organizer SetArrived promptly. Simple and well constructed. Pieces were longer than space we had allotted but very easily and cleanly cut with hand saw. I still must figure out best way to keep bar for slipping up and back now that I have decided where I like them placed. Will most likely use slim double-sided adhesive on the bottom. Also, some of my wider blades tilt up a bit, but this can be improved by spacing two pieces wider apart. Would definitely recommend. Has made drawer neater and safer, and made finding and accessing desired knife much faster and easier. Best of all, no clunky knife block cluttering up valuable counter space.Buy Norpro 4 Piece Knife Organizer Set Now
Not the prettiest knife holder out there, but allowed me to make my knife drawer much more organized and SAFER. Was able to consolidate knives that had been stored in other drawers. Henckels International Forged Premio 7-Piece Block Set
I bought these knives thinking that Henckels would not put their name to an inferior product, no matter where it is made. After about a months use, rust spots started to appear. These knives were cared for like they were made of the finest China strictly hand washed immediately after use, etc. The final straw came when the chef's knife started pitting on the blade edge.Fortunately for me, Amazon.com has a fantastic customer service department, and although the thirty day retun limit had expired, they allowed me to return the knives for a store credit. I've subsequently purchased some Wusthof Classics. I know for certain that they are the real deal and won't be cheap and nasty like the Henckels Internationals proved to be.Horrible product. You can tell these are made in China from inferior "stainless" steel. I put the word stainless in quotations because after about 1.5 months of light use, two of the knives started to develop rust spots. I had read a review from another individual who had the same problem but thought he must be an anomaly as a name brand like Henckels wouldnt put their name on such a low quality product. However, this is not the case and this knife set is in fact garbage.
The worst part wasnt even the fact that it rusted. The worst part is Henckels customer service. After emailing them my issue, nobody got back to me for 3 days. When someone finally contacted me, i sent them pictures of the damage. Nobody emailed me with a resolution and I had to follow up. What kind of customer service is that where the person complaining has to follow up?!?! After I followed up, their response was a generic copy and paste answer saying I should wash the knives with baking soda. Im no chemistry expert but I dont want my food touched with rusted knives (the rust didnt go away after washing with baking soda).
Would give this product zero stars if Amazon allowed me to. Complete waste of money. Should have just added some more money and gotten Wusthof knives which are made in Germany and would probably never rust

I have the entire line of the Forte collection. I am very happy with it. The pieces are extremely strong, they don't bend, they are very shiny, they aren't too heavy and they are very nice looking. The things I look for in a shellfish knife are a rigid blade and a good grip. This one has both. I'm not terribly afraid of the blade snapping off if I find a particularly stubborn clam, though the tang is significantly smaller and thinner than the blade, so snapping might still be a possibility down the road. The blade is sharp enough to wiggle its way into the shell, but not so outrageously sharp that a slip would require a trip to the emergency room. Most importantly, the handle is rubberized, so even when your hands are wet you are able to maintain a decent grip on it. Probably not the greatest shellfish knife ever made, but for the price I'd take it over the OXO any day. Perfect for occasional use, but probably not for everyday employment.Joseph Joseph Big Foot Reversible Non-Slip Chopping Board
I heard a lot of raves about Joseph Joseph products so I was happy to find this on Amazon. It looks great and the colour is fantastic.
However after just two uses as a cutting board, which it is, it is showing white cut marks already.
I will keep using it and it is better for keeping your knife from getting dull.
I guess the best part about this item is once the one side gets too shabby looking from knife cuts I can turn it over and start again.
So kind of a two for one cutting board.
Maybe when you have guests and you want your kitchen to look good turn it over. When you want to use it turn it back.I chose this cutting board after seeing people complain about the flatness and springiness of thinner 1/2" thick plastic cutting boards. This one is a little thicker than 3/4" and is quite sturdy. The concern expressed by another reviewer of knives leaving white marks on the board is not a problem for the white version of this cutting board. Only complaint I have is that the board did not sit flat on the counter when I first took it out of the box, but I rearranged the rubber feet and it sits just fine. The board certainly isn't cheap given that it's just a big chunk of plastic. But it's nice and sturdy and I can just toss it in the dishwasher and that's what I was looking for.

I really like this cutting board, very thick and sturdy on the counter and the legs keep it well stationed. I chose this pair because they were the only kitchen utensils I could find that were made in the USA. From the description, I knew they were shorter than most stainless steel cooking spoons, but I decided to try them. I would not buy them again. Not only are they short, their bowls are rounded in a way that makes them difficult to use, and the metal is weird. They might work in a pinch for tossing and serving a salad.I had been looking for snub nose spoons (AKA Cooks spoons) for awhile. I ordered the set of two (one with holes and one without) and I'm very pleased. It allows one to stir, fry, etc. and to scrap the bottom of your fry pan, pot, etc. with ease. The handle length and size of the spoons are perfect. Christmas 2011 ABC TV challenged us to spend $60 on American made articles. If every American spent this much we could turn our economy around. I wasn't looking for cooks spoons only found these when I searched "made in America". I had purchased a set of steak knives and small knives in a specialty shop in Gatlinburg Tennessee years ago. If there were instructions to not put in the dishwasher I did not pay any attention hence the handles darkened. This did not effect the quality or performance of the cutlery. To hit the $60 dollar amount I purchased several other items made by Rada . After a year and 2 months usage and hand washing they are just like the day I opened the box. I am pleased.Progressive International Reversible Flexible Chopping Mat, Set of 3
I have a large old butcher block in the center of my kitchen. I like using the flexible cutting mats so I can just remove those and wash them, rather than having to wash the block itself in between a variety of ingredients. I recently bought a pack of some at Bed Bath and Beyond and they were basically useless. My knives are good quality and they'd cut right through the plastic. So, I went on a quest for some high quality ones and these so far are amazing. Very sturdy, but still bendable enough to easily move chopped things and dump them into a pan.My mom turned me on to this style of cutting board years ago and I've never used anything else. But these are both sturdier than most and certainly more artfully colored...and if something makes you smile when cutting an onion, more power to ya.The difference in using these as opposed to a glass or wood board is that after you chop your veggies or whatever you may use them for, you simply pick up the entire cutting board and bend it over the pot (these are flexible so it creates a curved "tube" they slide down without spillage when bent) so that all the pieces fall easily into the pot without you ever needing to touch them or have them fall onto the counter away from the pot.
Too, unlike a glass or hard cutting board, this will not dull your knives when chopping...and unlike a wood board, these will never harbor any bacteria and take up no room in the dishwasher after use as they are so thin. They also take up no room in a cabinet.
They also work great for rolling out dough...just sprinkle with flour. No stick!
Some use the color coding to cut different things...meat on the red one, veggies on green etc...I just use them all for whatever and sanitize in the dishwasher later.

Although the washing instructions state that the cutting boards are dishwasher safe, don't believe it. These flimsy cutting boards curled and bowed, rendering them completely useless. A total waste of money.Read Best Reviews of Progressive International Reversible Flexible Chopping Mat, Set of 3 Here
I bought these because earlier ones I had purchased ended up warping badly when I ran them through the dishwasher. These have held up well and so far, they still lie flat for use. They're a little on the stiff side for folding and pouring chopped items, that's the trade-off for them not warping in the dishwasher.UPDATE! Within a few weeks of getting these mats, they started curling up on me when I ran them through the dishwasher. It's now January of 2013 so they LAST well, but the boogers are constantly wanting to curl up and that makes stuff you chop roll off, or roll to the center of the mat, according to which side you have up. I would NOT recommend them to a friend.

When it comes to cutting mats, I am hard to please. In the last four years I have tried the SiliconeZone 11-by-15-Inch Non-Skid Flexible Cutting Boards, as well as These and even This. These would have been the best choice if they arrived flat, but alas, they have a permanent curve to them.Enter these reversible mats. These are a bit thicker than other ones I have tried. The color coding is nice, but not essential, since I change mats when switching between raw protein and other items. I also sanitize my mats between uses. They arrived flat and mostly stay flat during use. Like most plastic mats they curl when hot things are placed on them. They are also are slightly curled out of the dishwasher (no heated dry cycle, please) but the flatten out as they cool when stored flat.
Like all plastic mats, they are slippery and slide around the counter. Best to get some of this grippy shelf liner to put under the mat. A damp towel also works (a tip from a chef friend).
Since they are thicker than other mats I have tried, they aren't as flexible, but this is not an issue for me. They show some knife marks, but no signs of cutting through.
The Verdict: After using these mats daily for the past four months, I am happy with them and would purchase them again. Longevity has yet to be determined, so stay tuned for updates.
Update June 15, 2013
These mats are still in daily use and holding up well. While they show some knife marks, none have come close to cutting through. I am still happy with them and would purchase them again.

Overall a good product, but the picture is misleading. This is not white, it's kind of an earthenware color, almost beige. Slightly bigger than I thought it was going to be, but does comfortably fit 1/2cup of butter at a time. Works perfectly and sturdy too. I've already dropped the bell part twice on linoleum and once it hit the counter before the floor... no chips, cracks, or issues. Other than the color difference, I'd recommend it.Chicago Cutlery Forum 16-Piece Block Knife Set
I did lots of research on what to look for in a quality knife set and found this one with almost everything I was looking for at a very reasonalbe price. Great knives for the money. Very sharp and nice looking, I wash them by hand and dry immediately after to keep them in perfect condition. Obviously not as good as a top of the line set but for $50 you can't beat it.I have used other Cuisinart knives in the past and didn't realized that there was a lot of difference but unfortunately, there is. This set has knives that are fairly light in weight, although the handles are very comfortable. However, they did cut fairly well and I found no issues with spotting or discoloration as others have commented, but I have only had them for a week or so. I have decided it is too difficult to review this type of product on line and will check out some stores before I buy a replacement. So, they certainly aren't junk and are a decent value given the cost but I think there are better products that are going to make me happier.Lagiole Jean Dubost Set Of 6 Steak Knives Bright Neon Multi Colored

I was skeptical about the quality of the ice bucket and the bar tools that I would be receiving. After using them for a few months, I am impressed. We've had this Bar Tool set for a year and a half now. We have parties fairly regularly and like to make cocktails, so we use these often. They've all held up very well, we haven't had any problems with them at all. We use the bottle opener the most often, and since it has a large handle and an obvious place that it belongs, we haven't lost it or had it walk off (which used to happen frequently to our bottle openers). We've also found the built in cutting board more useful than expected.
