Tuscan Grapevine Breeze Tempered Glass Cutting Board 8" X 10"
Zwilling J.A. Henckels Zwilling One 4-Inch Paring Knife
Oneida 13-Pc Side Tang Cutlery Set w/ Block
I've examined more than 15 knife sets at this price range, both in stores and at home. I like this set the most in the under $100 price range. I'm not a five-star kind of reviewer, but all-in-all, this set deserves it.Firstly I want to say to the zillions of rust-complainers on the internet, that ALL KNIVES RUST IF YOU TREAT THEM IMPROPERLY. Have some knife-respect and wash & dry knives promptly.
PROS:
1. Quality:
Unlike most sets at this price range, these knives are NOT hollow, light, slippery or flimsy. There is nothing worse than so-called "nice" knives from "good" companies or "respected" celebrity chefs, that STILL feel cheapy.
I previously had the Henckel's International Synergy set ($60), and the feel of this set is much better. For only $12 dollars more this set is on another level. These knives have a HAND-FEEL better than many...and I mean many, high priced sets.
These knives are solid; even heavy, and the blades are nice and long. I'm telling you, if you're someone who respects feel and integrity in his tools, you'll be down with these knives. Way down. Like, lowdown.
2. Handle Length:
For some reason most steak knives have inexplicably short handles. These handles are longer and extend properly into the palm. If you're a steak guy, you know what I mean. Don't ask me to cut my steak with a Kewpie doll knife. The other knives in this set have longer handles as well. I'm sick of dainty handles. Even Chicago Cutlery, with its big macho sounding name, give you the typical stubby handles.
Another advantage of these longer handles, is that when cutting, your index finger rests more on the comfortable bolster, than the sharp back of the blade. These are well thought-out knives.
3. Handle Texture:
Some knives are too slick, some too grippy. I don't know what kind of material the handles are (Onieda calls it POM), but the grip is just right. PERFECT in fact. You don't want rubbery, which feels a bit cheepy-cheesy, and lacks class, and you don't want too slick a steel.
Many knife handles, even expensive ones, are often some kind of hard plastic or graphite. Even top quality plastic feels...well, like plastic. These Oneida's feel nothing like that.
Also some sets have handles that are flat and some that are round; without going into it, I don't care for either. This set strikes the right shape; sort of a curved square.
4. Sharp Enough:
I'm not going to tell you that these blades are the best. This is not an expensive set. They're plenty sharp.
Web reviewers that get all frazzled because their new knives are "DULL!", are most likely starting their cut like a clutz. Yes, I've experienced un-sharp knives right out of the box too...these ain't them.
These blades are straight-edged (smooth), not serrated (jagged). Personally I like smooth edged like these. If you keep it sharp, it slices like silk, and your guests will exclaim, "wow, THAT'S a steak knife". Serrated edges are OK, but when they get dull they start to tear at meat, rather than slice it smooth and sexy like.
Serrated are also harder to sharpen.
5. Blade Strength:
The blades are a bit stronger than most. They are not flimsy, which is a common problem at this range.
Mind you, they are not super rigid like some $200+ set, but they will NOT embarrass you. These are high carbon stainless steel after all.
I test blades for strength and rigidity by gripping the handle with one hand, and pinching the blade tip with the other hand, then flexing the blade from side to side, observing the amount of wiggle. Again, these pass the wiggle test just fine.
6. Blade Length:
All but one of the knives complies with recommended lengths. Often you will get a short santoku knife. Not here, it is the full 7 inches. The chef's knife is a big mother. Put the chef's knife in one hand and the santoku in the other and go to war.
7. Value:
For quality, weighty knives like this, it's a good deal indeed.
9. Appearances:
It looks like a proper knife block set. Others may like something prettier. The trim on the block is a bit course maybe. As for the knives, I like that they are rivetless, with the steel traveling seamlessly from the blade to the bolster and on through the handle. Sleek and solid looking. And no place for gunk to hide.
Also the block has a small footprint, so if you have a small counter it works out.
Knife block slots are labelled. Kinda neat. One tends to get sloppy with slots. This keeps you honest.
10. No Rust:
So far no rust, and I've no reason to think it will. If they do start to rust, even though I care for them properly, I will be certain to update this review in BIG FAT LETTERS.
CONS:
1. By tradition and expert recommendation, pairing knives should be 3.5 to 4 inches. This one is only 3 inches. Bummer. That half-inch makes a difference. A good pairing knife may be the most important knife in a kitchen, so this was a real shortcoming on Oneida's part. I have a favorite paring knife, so I just substituted mine for theirs in the pairing slot. But still, one shouldn't have too. It's a waste of a tool and some bucks. I guess it's OK for grapes, whatever.
2. No sharpening steel. Truly, any self-respecting block set (like this one certainly is) SHOULD have a sharpening steel. It's just what's done. It's kinda like selling a pair of shoes without the laces.
3. Block: The steak knife slots are narrowly aligned, so the steak knives are bunched together rather untidily. Knives should line up military straight. Well, as mentioned before, the block itself lacks a bit of fit & finish.
The block is at a medium to slight angle. To access the longer knives you may have to pull it out from under a cabinet. But it will STORE under all but the most low slung cabinetry. It could have been a bit more angled.
4. Kitchen shears (scissors): Personally I don't like the look of scissors in my knife block. Scissor's should be kept in your wife's knitting drawer. I'd rather Oneida have supplied another type of knife instead of these shears. No big deal. I just stuck another pairing knife in the shears slot, and put the shears in a drawer. Now I'm all cool again.
SUMMARY:
This is simply the best knife block set at this price range, period.I bought this and not only was the black box cracked and broken, I had to go through several ways for them to replace it for me. Today while trying to cut some tillamook cheese the blad broke in half, i have never experience something this poorly made for how expensive it is.
Picnic Time Formaggio Cheese Set
Very nice cheeseboard. Sturdy, well built, attractive, easy to clean. The stainless steel knives are comfortable and easy to use and clean. I saw this item for sale in Napa Valley and purchased it here for much less $. Highly recommended. We gave this cheese board set to our friends who love cheese and wine. The bamboo is great quality and the knives are heavy and cut through several kinds of cheese very well. They have a small apartment so the space saving feature is perfect. I highly recommend this cheese board set!Buy Picnic Time Formaggio Cheese Set Now
I bought this set as a replacement for a cheese board and knives set I lost. I am very impressed with the quality of both the board and the knives (especially for the price). I am a little disappointed in the size (although it is stated in the dimensions I was just envisioning something a bit bigger), but it is still nearly perfect for what I need. I will be interested to see how well it wears after time, but the materials seem to be of high quality. All-in-all, I would highly recommend it for yourself or for a gift!I ordered 4 for gifts. Three of them would not open. I had to return them all. This is a bad design. The quality is nice, it doesn't feel cheap at all. I would not recommend this for a party or a big event because of the size. It's not small but I think it's more of a personal size. Probably for one person, if you love cheese, this is a great set.Pure Komachi 2 High Carbon Stainless Steel Kitchen 12 Piece Knife Set (6 razor-sharp knives + 6 col
Got this knife set new from a knife seller at a local farmers market for $35 and have no complaints what so ever. Came out of the box sharp as ever. These are very light knives and are very durable. I love the sheaths that come with them and the colors are super fun too. I love these knives so much that I'm getting rid of the knives that I currently own and just using these. I recommend these to everyone.I am not a chef, but use them for my basic cooking and am very happy with them. Colors are fun. Have bought for family members as well, and they enjoy them too. highly recommend, especially as a gift.My wife and I purchased a set of knives exactly like these from another source and when we tried to buy another set as a gift for my son, the only place I could find the set was on Amazon. Glad we searched the net for them. We like the colors but especially like the way the knives cut foods so easily. The safety sheaths are also a plus for us.My wife had me order these knives since we just had a baby and wanted a full set for our kitchen. I received the package and to my disappointment 3 of the knives had chipped blade edges. The bagel knife was in horrible shape and the tomato knife had a large chip in the blade edge. We also bought the pink knife, Santoku knife, and it was totally fine so I'm going to blame the company that shipped this set because they didn't do a good product inspection before shipping. I'm returning the set but it will have to be a refund because it wasn't originally through Amazon... I'm crossing my fingers that the next set I buy isn't in as bad of shape as this one... I know the knives are awesome but I would like a new product, not a defective one...Colourful? Yes. But that's about it. The blade is thick and not handy to cut through vegetables and fruits. Most of these blade shape are not useful. They are already store in a drawer and I had to buy another thin bladed knife for daily use. Oh well!Totally Bamboo Molokini Thin Cutting Board
Lenox Vintage Jewel Frosted 3-Piece Stainless Steel Serving Set
glad i bought two sets. threw a party the other weekend and needed the two sets for all the food. picked this up when dillards had it on sale for $13.50 a set. totally worth it for that price. couldn't bring myself to pay $60, though. This, and the other Lenox Vintage Frosted flatware I ordered through Amazon.com are wonderful -but I'm prejudice...it was my selection of the pattern and I am very picky about the things I spend good money on!! So this stainless is very exciting to me, and I am glad to have the full set, which now includes also the hostess set and a total of 12 place settings! Saber Knives Full Tang German Steel 4.5-Inch Paring? Knife
Fissler Perfection Santoku Knife, 5.5 Inches
Japanese knives are good for delicate slicing work .. German knives at chopping work. Can you have the best of both worlds?Yes .. in the Fissler Santoku knife.
This is a super-high-quality German knife, full tang, sharp, nicely weighted, balanced .. simply perfect.
The blade is thin enough for delicate work and just thick enough for light chopping of carrots and harder vegetables. Handle is heavy enough to give good weight and strength.
BTW, I own a $100 Kyocera ceramic knife .. too fragile. I don't use it anymore.
Two words for you .. Buy It.
Wallace Dark Walnut 2 Drawer Chest with Feet
Holds a service for 12 with no problem. The two drawers will not hold longer pieces in slots. They have to lie sideways. The slots are too narrow to hold some pieces. It will not hold a large soup ladle. This is a beautiful, well made chest that I ordered for a wedding present. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the hardware. The knobs are not as nice a quality as the chest itself. The first one I received, had several of them rolling around in the box and when we tried to screw them back on, the screw shaft was embedded sideways in the drawer making it impossible to put the knob back on. We exchanged it (no problem with the exchange and the replacement arrived immediately) and the new chest had the same issue with the knobs not staying on. The screws just aren't long enough and the lining is glued to the insides of the chest making it impossible to remove and replace the screws with longer ones. We ended up putting a drop of super glue on the inside of the knob to help it not fall off again. For the price it was worth the hassle. Other chests I looked at were well above $100. I am planing on ordering another one for my daughter.Buy Wallace Dark Walnut 2 Drawer Chest with Feet Now

The chest is a good value. Finish is OK, but not of high quality. Overall, it is what should be expected for the price payed. Ordered a week before Christmas, but did not arive until week after Christmas, although info on order said it would be only 3 to 5 days. Memo: Don't wait that close to order an item.I picked this out as a wedding present! It is great quality! Very nicely put together and looks exactly as the picture showed! I fits my 77 piece set of silverware and I have an extra drawer for pieces I collect down the road! Awesome deal, good quality and looks great! Can't beat that!Collector's Choice Knife Display Case Cabinet, storage cabinet, Solid Wood, Gallery Quality
Bigger than I realized (read the dimensions dummy!) but that's not bad. The drawers are toooo high! They easily could have been HALF the height (1.25" instead of the 2.5") and then there could have been twice the number of drawers. This was a "Knife Display Case" after all, NOT a Hand Gun Display Case! The quality is surprisingly good considering the price, however (isn't there always one) there appears to be "bumps" in the wood frame where the nails/screws? are almost pushing through, in several places.
Overall it's worth the "SALE" price. The knife display has excellent quality and it served its purpose for what i needed it. Great item & excellent quality!

I ordered this directly from the seller to save a few bucks and i was at first skeptical of the dimensions. For people wanting a nice folder knife cabinet this thing is absolutely perfect and you can fit an amazing amount of folders in it. the thing is i wanted it for fixed blades ranging from 6 OAL to over 15" OAL. And i wasn't sure i would be able to fit many knives like this in here. But after getting it and setting it up i have about 20 fixed blade knives in just the top shadowbox and last bottom drawer. these knives range from neck knife like skeleton handled knives to big choppers. Knives from like ontario, esee, and becker, all the way to Busse / Bussekins. I still have the 4 smaller middle drawers to add folders or small fixed blades to as well but for now i use 1 middle drawer for sharpening stones and lube and such.
It makes an excellent place for keeping all your favorite safe queen blades. The drawers are lined with felt to help prevent scratching and its made from real wood. plus it locks. the locks are a lot better quality than a lot of other boxes out there. It takes 3 different keys in different locations to open all the drawers, but each side can be opened 1 at a time with the "right" single key, if that makes sense. A cool feature and a small amount of added security.
And did i mention it looks beautiful? And the knives look even better inside a nice display. It makes you stop and appreciate the steel inside when you walk by. All in all I give it 5 stars and a 9/10. If there was another model with 2 large bottom drawers and only 2 small drawers so i could fit more large knives it would get a 10/10 but since that's just a personal thing id like, i gave it a 5 star review, get it you will love it, or ill take it!
Excuse spelling and grammar, i enjoy knives not english lessons. :) thanksBought this for my son's pocket knife collection. Display cabinet on top looks nice. Lots of room for more knives, jewelry or small tools if needed. Made well.I have been looking for this type of storage for my knives, i have driven to most of the knife stores in my area and no luck until i searched amazon, thank you.
All I can say is if you can't find it on amazon then you won't find it.

"The Sharper Blade"
JAPANESE King Delux Knife Sharpening Stone Grit 1200
These King Stones are legitimate Japanese Water Stones made in, you guessed it, Japan. They are extremely versitile and are the highest quality stones I have used. However, there are a few more good companies out there. Water stones are true to the craft of knife honing and sharpening and is a useful skill to teach yourself. I highly recommend watching virtuovice (YouTube Name) on YouTube for excellent tutorials on how to sharpen with stones. The lower grit stones like the 250 and 400 are great for taking out chips in the blades or reprofiling the edge to fit your needs or preferences. As a camper who beats on knifes and axes, I really need this benefit to take out those chips and these stones do so beautifully.
A good stone grit to breach the gab between the lower grits and the finishing stone is the 1000 grit. This will help smooth out the edge and give it some great sharpness. It also makes finishing the edge with a 3000 or 4000 grit stone an easier and less time-consuming step in the process. Finally, you should use a leather strop with a green and black compound to really get a good edge.
Bottom Line and Reccommending Sharpening System:
1.) 250/1000 grit King Water Stone
2.) 3000 or 4000 grit King Stone
3.) Leather strop with compound
You only really need the 250, 1000 (or 1200), and 3000 (or 4000) grit stones with the strop. I have seen the strop put a better edge than 8000 grit stones. Keep in mind a strop is only 30 bucks or so, and you could almost spend $100 on an 8000 grit stone. This reccommended sytem will make a butter knife scary sharp if you wanted it too. However, the stones are expensive and will loose shape over time depending on how much you use them. But the time you use them will definitely yield better results than a spyderco Sharpmaker (I have one). I also reccommend some sort of a stone holder like the Steelex Sharpening Stone Holder (If needed). This works well and makes it easier to work with. The only complaints I have seen about this stone is from individuals who do not know about conditioning and resurfacing stones that are soft or are careful not to gouge the surface of any sharpening stone.
Stone arrived fast, does its job and will last a lifetime if I take care of it.

Wusthof Culinar 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife
I've owned this knife for several months and am pleased with it -it certainly is good-looking. The santoku blade is great for chopping veggies -I think the hollow (Granton) edge is well worth the small increase in price over a flat blade. The only drawback to this knife -as it is with competitors' steel-handle knives, is that most cooks will not feel as secure holding it, particular if your hands are a little slippery or greasy. It just feels as if it might slip. For that reason, I think the Wusthof Grand Prix version of this knife would be a slightly better choice. But hey, if you have a zillion-dollar kitchen and a zillion knives, this series is the prettiest to display that you'll find anywhere. We bought this knife for our son. He has been helping in the kichen since he was three, and is training as a professional. He says this is the best knife he has ever used and is very easy to keep clean.

I bought this knife 4 or 5 years ago off of amazon, and it is still my favorite knife. I use it for all sorts of vegetable chopping, and it never lets me down. I sharpen as needed. It fits nicely in the hand, has a perfect weight, and if I ever need to replace, I will definitely buy again.Want Wusthof Culinar 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife Discount?
I owned this knife for about five years and could not be happier with it. The edge holds very well but we do a quick sharpening every 3-4 times it sees moderate use. Almost everyone who uses it is surprised how sharp it is compared to their own knives. We have purchased 3-4 more of this and the classic version for family that left our house wishing they stuffed it in their pocket before leaving. The Culinar look is excellent, definitely an upgrade over the classic and just has a feel in your hands that surpasses normal knives. I don't know if it's worth the extra price but our main two knives are both Culinar while the rest are Classic. I guess my point is, if you want just 1 goto knife that looks and works the part, get this one.
I cannot recommend another knife over this one based on my wife's and my own experiences. I'm over a foot taller than my wife and we both hold and use this with ease.

The Kuhn Rikon Nonstick Paring Knife is a very good value for a quality knife. We own several of these knives in different colors for use at home and in our shop. The different colors allow us keep the ones we use to cut materials in our workshop from accidently being used for food products. The blade is *VERY* sharp and holds it's edge very nicely. The nonstick coating on the blade is a real plus as it helps to keep the knife clean as well as to keep it moving through thicker items. The snug fitting platic sheath is a welcome addition to safely store or transport the knife.
My only complaint is the light feel of the plastic handle. It isn't flimsy exactly, just lacks heft. This might just be a personal prefference issue and it hasn't stopped me from buying more of them.
Overall this is a very good paring knife at a reasonable price. Recommended!

I was very skeptical about the product but, I was amazed who effortlesly you can perfectly core and slice the pineapple..GOOD INVENTIONMy wife found this on Amazon and asked me to order it for her. To qualify for free shipping, I added a book to the order. The book arrived the next day, this item took 10 days. Why? It was airmailed from Jinhua, Zhejiang, China, where is well known for its ham like that of Smithfield. While the corer does work, it is not professionally polished and is just like something made in a home-factory. The box, with brand name as Flagship, was soft and wrinkled. I checked on Amazon and found it basically the same as the Stainless Steel Pineapple Easy Slicer, Corer by KF Kitchen, sold by and shipped from lightbox, for $4.29. I got this knife for my daughter, in addition to a set of Global knives as a house warming present. Now she has two and won't part with it. She uses the extra one for the appetizer tray. It looks very chic. I had to get one for myself.I have a selection of Global knives which I have collected over the years, after I asked a gourmet cook what kind he preferred. "Global" was his quick response.
Using the recommended sharpener, roughly three times a month, has kept them in excellent condition.
I love the design and they all look great on a magnetic rack attached to the wall in my kitchen.
When comparing price with other "fancy-schmancy" brands which I have bought in the past, and long since put them in the "spare" drawer, these have been the best overall deal. It's Global, so between the high quality steel and the 10 degree edge, it is ridiculously sharper than any other blade on the market. Definitely not for the amateur home cook, but if you have to prep several pounds of product, this is the tool you want to have. Works fantastically for everything from parting poultry to julienne veggies. Highly recommend this blade to anyone putting together a serious set of work knives.

I adore my global knife 4.5 inch GS-1 ("kitchen knife"?). So much so that we got a second one and am now thinking of them as christmas gifts because they are so wonderful. Definitely prefer the 4.5 inch to the 5.5 inch which we also purchased (it's much more comfortable and easier to handle). Can't recommend this knife highly enough, for the feel of it in the hand, excellent cutting, the ease of use, great weight, easy to clean etc.

This is a perfect small/mid-size knife. It comes razor sharp out of the box and has no difficulty handling any task appropriate for its size. It came sharp enough to thinly slice the seed of an avocado, not that you would ever want to. It fits well in my medium/large hands. This knife is fantastic.
